>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 7. >> good morning and happy saturday. thanks so much for joining us. i'm sarah stinson filling in for noelle bellow. it's saturday, november 6 that we have a lot to get to this morning. but of course, we want to know what the weather is like dave spahr is here to tell us what we have on deck here. dave. >> hey, good morning, sarah. good morning everybody. for today it looks a little bout of a kind of an odd dirt, if you will, of some showers because early next week is going to be little bit more rocking again. but for today, we're dealing with some showers already appearing a little bit on radar up towards the north, the kind of winking

at us a little bit. haven't really edge too much into the bay area. but this is why it's in the forecast. you can see a little bit up to sonoma county a little bit extending out to sea and that will be dropping south all throughout the morning. we're talking to you and approaching much of the larger bay by the time we get to around the noon hour or so. there's held appears as we put it into motion nice deck of cloud cover comes with this as well and buried in all of this will be a little bit of a breeze while we're at it not here yet. though, winds are calm the single digits. but the pop a little bit this afternoon. we expect some 50's worse to see some mid 50's along the east bay shoreline 40's up to the north bay 55 for can 55 checking in san francisco. so breaking your day down for you calling it generally cloudy for a lot of the afternoon showers will make it everywhere. however, in the east bay. that will be a little tougher in temperatures, very modest. and we at a breeze in the 60's. coming up a little bit. we'll kind of time this all out for you. let you know what you can expect tomorrow. by the way, looks a little better. sarah. >> thank you, dave. happening today. moraine county is

starting to vaccinate kids ages 5 to 11 years old, the mass vaccination clinic. >> is set up at miller creek middle school getting underway this morning. kron four's camila barco is live there in sandra fell into more camila. >> yet today is the day. sarah, i'm currently like that miller creek middle school slots filled up within for many parents. >> and thousands of kids are going to be rolling up their sleeves this weekend. in marine county for kids to get vaccinated. now health officials have been planning for months to make sure that this goes smoothly. the county has set up several pa track apd a pediatric vaccination clinics for this weekend. and later this month here at miller creek middle school health care workers are going to administer 500 vaccines today and tomorrow. each day, officials say the demand is high. all 1000 spots to

vaccinate 5 to 11 year-olds this weekend filled up in less than 10 minutes just at this location alone. here's what health officials had to say. >> was ticketmaster concert. the people were really clamoring to get their children, these appointments. >> according to marine county health's website, all pediatric clinrcs this weekend. and later this month, our fall. but they say more appointments will become available but it will take time. now kids are going to get one 3rd of the dosage given to teens and adults. however, they must still get 2 shots, at least 3 weeks apart. now sara, there's about 20,000 kids between the ages of 5 to 11 here in marin county and health officials say that the goal is to vaccinate 75% of them with the first dose with in the first month. and by the way, that slots are filling up. it looks like they're on

track to meet that goal. sarah, back to you. >> thanks so much. camila. we'll check back in with her in about an hour. and in san francisco, the city is holding its first covid-19 vaccine clinic for children today. the clinic will be in the excelsior district at 20 norton street from 9.30 to 3 in the afternoon. the city specifically holding the clinic in the neighborhood to make shots available to children living in communities that have slightly highly impacted who have been impacted throughout the entire pandemic. if you can't make it to this clinic. the county has 100 vaccination sites that are offering the shots. you can sign up for a shot on the health department's website. and this morning the great mall in milpitas is no longer on lockdown after reports of a knife fight and a shooting. this drew hundreds of officers to the mall yesterday, some shoppers evacuated while others were forced to shelter in place for a long time. turn out to be a false alarm kron four's, gayle ong explains what happens.

>> video sent by a kron 4 viewer shows a heavy police presence outside one of the entrances of the great mall in milpitas friday. the pianist police say the chaos was due to 2 calls simultaneously just before 05:30pm. we received a report of a fight inside the great mall bay area. >> one of the callers for that fight indicated that a knife was president for that. one of the mall parties had a knife with him when officers responded to that call for service at about 05:34pm. we received another call for service indicating that there was a shooting that occurred insnde of the burlington coat factory that reported shooting prompting a lockdown at the mall. ho-sway villalobos was working at the time. always really saw was just people running some sort. >> people started closing up their doors. so i just went outside. >> security came in these to me that we have a shelter in so the first thing i really just i was a lock. the doors

turn off lights get everyone to the to make sure they're away from the windows. really. the says the shelter-in-place lasted for about an hour. >> around 07:30pm police conducted their search inside the mall and let people out in the end. no one was hurt during the course of our investigation, we found no evidence of a shooting and found nothing inside of the store. >> that indicated that a shooting had occurred there. we did not locate any victims of the shooting during a search of the interior of the entire mall. >> and we have not had any reports of any shooting victims at any local hospitals. captain john tours with the milpitas police department says large gates came down hard inside the mall during the shelter in place. >> and someone may have thought they heard gunshots unfortunate that we we live in a time where we do have to have a response for these types of events. but. it is very fortunate our personnel on the personal within the county and the the staff of the great mall train for events like this so it it allows us to do things quickly and efficiently and a little bit more fluidly stuff like this is really have to keep a

calm if you panic, there's not really much you can do. >> pete, is police detain 2 to 3 people due to the fight. meanwhile, the vta suspended light rail service at the great mall stopped due to the incident. but service is back to normal here in milpitas gayle ong kron 4 news. >> and coming up on the kron 00:00am morning news duchess crab season starts today will tell you the new rules. we'll have to follow and we have the normally quiet san francisco neighborhood rattled by recent gun violence help business leaders want to make sure this does not become a trend. and after the break, a san francisco police has been put on leave the incidents that led up to him being accused of robbery. that's coming up.

again during an on the job injury back in 2010. >> we're doing some what they call non bite work and as he put it, one of the dogs did not get the memo and the dog bit him through the calf's when it comes to holding somebody accountable. it's very important to us and everybody is treated the same. >> when it gets to sentencing everybody's different. >> sfpd has placed sergeant cole on unpaid leave while they conduct an investigation. prosecutors say they're still reviewing this case and not decided whether they will press charges. in the east bay a 12 year-old was arrested for a shooting threat at no middle school on monday. police say during their investigation, they identified the student as a possible suspect who later confessed to making the threat. well, talking with officers, the student was cited and released a custody of their parents. the department is now working with those parents to provide resources for the student.

fishing start today on the saturday after being delayed earlier this week. there are new regulations in place in order to protect humpback whales and sea turtles in the area. people can use crab traps, hoop nets and snares in fishing zones, one to 5, 6, there is. that's from oregon state line all the way down here to the sonoma mendocino county line and the area south of lopez point and monterey county fishing in the zones are under a fleet advisory. you cannot use crab traps in zones 3, 4, because of the whales and the sea turtles. they can get tangled up in them. and now we are back for another check of weather meteorologist dave spahr is going to tell us what's the weather can be like out there for maybe the fisherman going to get those crabs. >> well, they're going to to dress up a little bit of the wet rain gear, just a touch going on early this morning. good morning, sarah. good morning, everybody. we switch over to storm tracker. 4 real quick. there's a little bit of a line of some showers way up north. that's going to be our future. it's making its way to sonoma county a little bit to start the day into the

afternoon. however, its influence across the bay is really going to deaden quite a bit and the clouds break up a little bit as we get past the witching hour overnight. there you see the collection of rain. but this is kind of tilting above us was not going to get everybody in the bay probably make it into san francisco but not so much into the south bay as much or even really the santa cruz mountains. here's how it looks like the big picture, just the interruption right here. there's more upstream, though, early into next week marks the start what kind of nice, though, looking at half moon bay. not a bad start considering what we're talking about to show you the geography but south of this line that will be like that all morning, however, live shot from the golden gate, not a lot of addiction fog going on here. but quite a bit of cloud cover. there is winds single digits for now. we expect that to pick up a little bit this afternoon and a bit overnight. we'll show you that in just a bit. the future cast for, first of all, noting that rain that we're so we celebrating here. there's a little opportunity in southern marin at around the noon hour or so crossing over the golden gate a little bit kind of falls apart in cloud cover

actually starts breaking up later on overnight as you can see, as we get to sunday morning, afternoon is going to be a great day with mostly sunny skies over most of the bay area. however, it will actually be a little colder. not just were not only feel cooler but actually will be a few degrees off that because will be another air mass in place. there. add to that the more the sun's out. you've got some wind. so it actually will feel cooler than today with all this overcast will be fighting winds. as i noticed. there we you can see a northwesterly flow can tell there's a front behind us after that's all said and done. a bit of uptick on those winds in the santa cruz mountains overnight for your sunday and then getting into sunday itself. this is what i was talking about, a strong stiff northwest breeze. coupled with sunny skies and tend to be cooler. temperatures. will the cooler air mass a few passing showers today. breezy late clearing then tomorrow mostly sunny cool got the lower to mid 60's in place and then into next week. s you heard much rain and showers part of a program that's basically monday into

tuesday. and we have a bit of a warming up phase getting into some 70's towards the end of the week. today, 64 san francisco 65 oakland. they'll be some patches of some sun coming out. 66 san jose across the wider region lower to middle 60's. and we're looking for a cooler day actually tomorrow. coming up in a bit. we'll take a look at the longer range forecast. sarah. >> thank you, dave. the community in san francisco's haight-ashbury neighborhood is on edge after recent uptick of violence in the past 2 weeks. one person was killed and 2 others injured in 2 separate shootings. kron four's maureen kelly reports on why neighborhood say they're concerned that this could be a a worrisome trend. >> there's a growing memorial of candles and flowers here on haight street near masonic avenue with a double shooting took place. there are many stuffed animals left behind for the young man who was killed he's been identified by the medical examiner's office as 21 year-old samuel jessup of san francisco police kept a visible presence nearby. many merchants did not want to go

on camera. at least one saying they were scared to talk publicly yeah. i was alone a spray and i heard. >> these things i thought were fireworks but told everyone it's gunshots. nathan. it was all day says he's been hanging out in the haight a long time is still rattled by what he heard and saw thursday. i already guns could do. but like scene. the scene, the one person on the ground and one person that. >> you know, like the ambulance and the police and everything. and just hurt my feelings. and i know is i just don't know how to dealing with the shooting happened at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. a second man was also shot and hospitalized. it's disturbing for residents, especially since this comes on the heels of another brazen daylight shooting on october 22nd one block away on the corner of haight and central. one person was sent to the hospital with life threatening injuries. >> bullet shattered the window of the ritual coffee shop and hit several cars. those who live and work nearby say they

are shocked. this frightening this frightening and it kind of jay z. and on that we're all experiencing because we've got the cold that we've got this. we've got that. >> and then when you chris lee lose somebody on your street are next to you is frightening. the haight street merchants association is holding a special meeting in the wake of this violence, its president saying one shooting in this neighborhood is disturbing multiple shootings even more so maureen kelly kron 4 news. >> and in the east bay uc berkeley police are reporting multiple gasoline thefts from cars parked on campus. police say at least twice this week. a suspect or suspects drilled into cars to gas tanks in the upper hearst parking structure in order to steal gasoline. the theft and damage the car's gas tank and caused a gas bill in the garage. the justice department. ramping up efforts to arrest cyber criminals

calling them a national security thfeat and federal authorities recently arrested in alleged russian cyber criminal who they say was hiding out in south korea. they say there will be more arrests in the days and weeks to come experts say the 2 most common types of attacks are cyber theft and ransomware and anyone who use the internet. all of us could be a victim. >> cyber theft is the simple stealing credit card numbers, social security numbers, ransomware is a relatively new type of criminal activity where the criminals encrypt your computer systems and then demand a ransom for you to get your access back. >> the state department is now offering a 10 million dollar reward for any information about the leaders of the cyber group darkside that organization is blamed for a ransomware attack on the colonial pipeline back in may. as you recall, the hack crippled gas supplies for several states. still ahead on the kron 00:00am morning news on this saturday. the warriors clinched another win against

>> well, good morning, sarah. good morning, everybody. kind of cool today with a lot of cloud cover and some folks will be treated to a late morning, early afternoon shower in portions of the bay, although it's probably not going to get to everybody. you'll be treated to the cloud cover and kind of getting a little breezy, too, which will be a little chilly out of the northwest. expect the winds generally speaking right now here's how radar looks like we're tracking a little bit the way some rain up to sonoma county a bit and most of the bulk of that is still out to sea basically dropping south in kind of that tilted parallel direction. putting an emotional. see what i'm talking about here. the deeper moisture is still up, streaming up to scrounge up some rain which will probably see crossing the golden gate again around the noon hour or so. here's what we see right now. a live shot coming in from half moon bay quite a bit of cloud cover, although we are seeing some breaks in there already. and don't forget the south most evil thing we're talking about. we probably won't see these nice breaks again until late this afternoon or evening more likely into overnight temperature checked where the 50's over most the district

got some 40's up to the north bay. 51 san jose 55 san francisco current winds, pretty much calm the single digits. they will pick up this afternoon. so with the cloud cover will be a bit on the breezy side. tricky. when you start to get some rain. so the models are just telling us cloudy skies. basically the computer just want to put in there. but again, noting some showers for the golden gate down to san francisco. it will break up point south of that temperature checks will mostly be in the 60's this afternoon we expect the same for tomorrow. but the differences looks like a lot more sun even though we'll have stuck with that chilly when this is going to be distant to intermission before the real show, i should say this is the overture because the real show coming up early next week. yes, more rain for the bay area. good dosing for everybody going kind of track all of that coming up in a bit. sarah. >> thank you, dave. it's 7.30 on this saturday and now to our coronavirus coverage and big news in the fight against the pandemic. pfizer claims its covid-19 antiviral pill combined with an hiv drug reduces hospitalization or

death by 89%. hiv drug helps slow down the breakdown of pfizer's pill in order for it to remain active in the body for longer periods of time. pfizer hopes to submit its data to the fda before thanksgiving. so coming up. >> now there's a growing concern from health officials who say fewer people are getting covid booster shots than expected. according to a los angeles times report is particularly a concern. >> for groups, including the elderly who or people with weakened immune systems. kron four's dan thorn has the details. >> numbers from the california department of public health show fewer people than expected are getting covid-19 booster shots. the surprisingly slow demand is alarming for health officials are really disappointed that people are availing themselves of something that's going to offer them further protection. doctor john swartzberg with uc berkeley's school of public health is particularly concerned for the elderly and the immunocompromised, those

groups who are likely more than 6 months removed from their first doses of the vaccine are not as protected as they could be. those groups are also at the highest risk of getting severely ill or dying from breakthrough infections. the thanksgiving and christmas holidays are quickly approaching which presents another set of worries as people will gather with their families. every area county today showing an increase in the number of cases averaged over the last 2 weeks. so we're going in the wrong direction. and this is before the holidays can seniors are being urged by public health officials to get their boosters as soon as possible. an la times report shows just 20% of san francisco's eligible seniors have received an additional dose health experts warn that time is now to get a booster shot to avoid risk of exposure. we need to make sure that people who are high risk to yourself. >> maximum protection going into this really pretty dangerous period. >> that was dan thorn

reporting. and just to underscore how important that 3rd shot is for the immunocompromised the cdc already said that group could eventually need a 4th shot. former raiders wide receiver henry ruggs the 3rd now faces 3 additional charges. prosecutors say they'll charge drugs with not only the 2 felony dui but also in the reckless driving charges but also another felony dui with substantial bodily harm charge along with felony reckless driving. he's also facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of a firearm. ruggs is currently on house arrest after posting bail thursday. he's being tested for alcohol. 4 times a day. members of the raiders organization, including owner mark davis and quarterback derek carr say they will continue to support rugs through this. and now an update on the fatal shooting that happened on the movie set rust killing the cinematographer and injuring the director, the attorney for the woman in charge of weapons

on set claims she stressed safety to everyone involved attorney jason bell says hannah gutierrez-reed repeatedly asked for more days to train the actors in the use of firearms. gutierrez-reed said wednesday she inspected the gun before alec baldwin shot it. but claims she doesn't know how a live bullet ended up inside the gun. now in opening statements georgia, prosecutors and defense attorneys presented dueling portraits of ahmad arbery, an unarmed black man that was shot and killed last year on one side, arbery was portrayed as an innocent runner fatally shot by 2 men on the other side. he was painted as a scary mystery seen prowling around the neighborhood. greg mcmichael and his son travis are on trial for arbery's murder. their neighbor is also on trial for videotaping the chase and the fatal shooting. coming up on the kron 00:00am morning news. several states are suing the biden

setting up. but this doesn't start until another hour. and i can tell you, sarah, that it is going to be busy here at miller creek middle school. thousands of kids are going to be rolling up their sleeves across marin county to get vaccinated. now health officials have spent plenty of months get this up and rowling's to make sure that it runs smoothly. the county has set up several pediatric vaccination clinics for this weekend. and later this month here at miller creek middle school health care workers are going to administer 500 vaccines each day today and tomorrow. officials say the demand is high. all 1000 spots to vaccinate 5 to 11 year-olds this weekend filled up in less than 10 minutes just at this location alone. >> i was ticketmaster concert p people were really clamoring to get their children, these appointments. >> according to marine county

after being delayed earlier this week. there are new regulations, though, that are in place to protect humpback whales and sea turtles in the area. people can use crab traps, hoop nets and snares in fishing zones, one to 5, 6, that is from the oregon state line to the sonoma mendocino county line and the area south of lopez point in monterey county, fishing in these zones are under a fleet advisory. you cannot use crab traps in zones. 3 in 4 because of the whales and the sea turtles. they can get tangled up in them. so keep that in mind. and now that we're talking about crowds and fishermen getting back out there. let's also check up with our meteorologist dave spahr. dave, what's it going to be looking like out there this weekend heading into the week for the fisherman. really anybody kind of >> yeah. we have a chance of some showers going on ever so briefly today. kind of the goal spurt of it. most is going to cloud cover. most people are to send a little bit of a breeze. this track and we got up there told all

devan cole. this is video of them shot during a 2016 interview. a man has been a police officer for 27 years served with distinction in a real professional. >> he's also a devoted husband and a loving father and so he has played all of those roles throughout his life with sort of secret addiction that has corroded his life from the inside out. >> cole's attorney says the incident stems from his clients addiction to opioids a condition that began after a police dog bit through his calf during a training exercise back in 2010 keep getting into used painkillers. then and remains painkiller use or throughout if the evidence lines up and charges are filed against cole. >> prosecutors say those circumstances should not have an impact on his prosecution, but it could. and his ultimate sentencing while there needs to be even handed justice. >> there also needs to be the effort to this unique person

that's where i saw the other bears, the bears breaking in through the front door, even getting past a lock to a parent cubs inside. one of them enjoying john's fresh kfc. he had scarf. the whole thing down. john says he was able to get all the bears out eventually after making a lot of noise. he says he jumped into action out of fear for his pets dog. woody and his parakeets one bird is still missing. the dog made it out ok. and while john says he is familiar with bears in this foothill area. it was still very terrifying. they went through everything in my house. they went through the covered. they went through my child's toys. they went through our clothes even today, our cameras spotting a bear on the stairs and these 2 in the trees. and john says in recent days he thinks the same bears of come back looking for more. this bear right outside his window after seeing the video of the bold bear challenge chicken. one resident tells us they are getting smarter. no one would expect a bear to go inside their house. and john says he has a new strategy to bear

>> zeke might kron 4 news. >> and big news in the fight against this pandemic pfizer claims its covid-19 antiviral pill combined with in hiv drug reduces hospitalization or death by 89%. the hiv drug helps slow down the breakdown of pfizer's pill in order for it to remain active in the body for longer periods of time. pfizer hopes to submit its data to the fda before thanksgiving. prison guards are pushing back on the covid vaccine mandate saying many staff members would rather quit or retire, then get the shot. governor gavin newsome. he's a major supporter of the vaccines. he actually joined the guards and appealing this mandate. a federal judge ruled in september that all workers who have access to correction facilities must be vaccinated. many support the measure saying it's needed to keep prisoners and guards safe. we spoke to one prison law attorney who says the cramped

today in marin county. they're starting to vaccinate kids, ages 5 to 11 years old, a mass vaccination clinic is set up at miller creek middle school. and that's where we find kron four's camila barco where it should be getting up and running right about now. camilla. how's it looking? yes. so the doors are open here at miller creek middle school. you can see behind me the set set up. i'll step up. >> out of the way and organizers have just made this vaccination clinic welcoming to kids. you can see that it is decorated the people who are here have also dressed up just to make this a a fun d hundreds of kids are actually expected to show up today just at this site alone for slots filled up within minutes now, health officials have been planning for months to get this up and running smoothly. the county has set up several pediatric vaccination clinics for this weekend. and later this month here at mill creek middle school health care

workers are going to administer 500 vaccines each day today and tomorrow and officials say that the demand is a pretty high all one-thousand spots this weekend to vaccinate 5 to 11 year-olds filled up in less than 10 minutes and it's just at this location alone. here's what officials had to say. it. >> was ticketmaster concert. p people were really clamoring to get their children, these appointments. >> now, according to marin county health website, all pediatric vaccine clinics this weekend and later this month are full. but officials say more appointments will become available, but it will take time now these pfizer's pediatric of vaccinesoand kids are going to get one 3rd of the dosage that is given to teens and adults, but they still have to come back here at least 3 weeks after they get that first shot. now, sara, the county does have a

been highly impacted by the virus. you can't make it to this clinic. the county has 100 vaccination sites that are offering the shots. you can sign up for a shot on the health department's website. and this morning the great mall in milpitas is no longer on lockdown after reports of a knife fight and a shooting. it was a terrifying and chaotic scene drawing hundreds of officers to the mall yesterday, some shoppers had to evacuate. others were forced to shelter in place. it turned out to be a false alarm. kron, four's, gayle ong explains what happened. >> video sent by a kron. 4 viewer shows a heavy police presence outside one of the entrances of the great mall in milpitas friday. the pianist police say the chaos was due to 2 calls simultaneously just before 05:30pm. we received a report of a fight inside the great mall bay area. >> one of the callers for that fight indicated that a knife was president for that. one of all parties had a knife with

him when officers responded to that call for service at about 05:34pm. we received another call for service indicating that there was a shooting that occurred inside of the burlington coat factory that reported shooting prompting a lockdown at the mall ho-sway villalobos was working at the time. always really saw was just people running some sort. >> people started closing up their doors. so i just went outside. >> security came in these to me that we have a shelter in so the first thing i really just i was a lock. the doors turn off the lights. get everyone to the to make sure they're away from the windows. really. the says the shelter-in-place lasted for about an hour. >> around 07:30pm police conducted their search inside the mall and let people out in the end. no one was hurt during the course of our investigation, we found no evidence of a shooting and found nothing inside of the store. >> that indicated that a shooting had occurred there. we did not locate any victims

>> welcome back. it's 9.14 and recreational dungeness crab fishing starts today after being delayed earlier this week. there are new regulations in place, though, to protect humpback whales and sea turtles in the area. people can use crab traps, hoop nets and snares and fishing zones, one to 5, 6, that is from the oregon state line to the sonoma mendocino county line and the area south of lopez point in monterey county fishing in the zones are under a fleet advisory. you cannot use crab traps in zones 3, 4, because of the whales and the sea turtles. they get tangled in them. hopefully this means we could have some decian is crowned on thanksgiving table. but we just have to see. welcome back. we're going to check in with weather because as we're talking about fishermen getting out there. again. dave, what is it looking like? it looks cloudy to me. but is there some sprinkles in the forecast need the rain coat today because they always use in any way out there in the ocean.

only been about a 100 to 207 inch of rain up there in sonoma county. i checked the surface dew points and temperatures. and we like to look for that to see if we'll get some virga going on and really there is not much separation. so there shouldn't be that much atmospheric resistance from this rain, but it's a much more impressive on there looking than what we're getting quite broken up. as you can see from the pattern here and that will remain a west to east pattern as the system breezes on pastor. you can see the view from half moon bay, which is further south fairly calm looking at that as well. temperature check in the middle 50's over most the area 49 up santa rosa and breaking your day down for you with the east bay shoreline in the background. cloudy skies for most temperature check in the lower to middle 60's. it will be a bit breezy, but will be interesting tomorrow is it will be a couple degrees cooler than today. even though you see a lot more sun and a chilly wind with that. that plus, also more earnest way rain into next week. we'll get all of that in just a bit. sarah.
