>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 7. >> good saturday morning to you. thanks for joining us here on the kron 00:00am morning news. i'm noelle bellow. it is saturday, november 13th. we've got a lot to get to this morning but want to start off by getting a check of your weather forecast. dave spahr standing by in the weather center with some details day. there's a little bit of fog this morning yeah, we're getting some of that radiation fog. getting fog in places that don't always see. and we're seeing it extending on of the central valley. it's kind of the. >> typical pattern that they'll see oftentimes in the summer. sometimes what happens is you get this fog that develops in the high overhead

and you don't get enough mixing for to left. all that will be our problem. but sometimes that can happen off to our friends in the sacramento in central valley for what we've got right now. a little bit fog looks to be mixing in a lot of the camera shots at least out had. this is half moon bay and there you see it looks like a good start to a great day, everybody in the bay area will probably be mostly sunny, but getting back to that fog. there is a formal statement that's covers all the major cities around the perimeter of the bay extending off through the delta into the central valley. this is until posted 11:00am and even what we can see from the models tell us that this should mix out pretty nicely by mid-afternoon or mid morning rather, and clear out before noon. this is the pattern we have with high pressure overhead. it's kind of sending everything off pacific up in so enjoy a nice spring-like weekend temperature check upper 40's some lower 50's going on for right now. so fairly mild. but that moisture in the air help put the brakes on the temperatures a bit calm winds to in the clear skies

overnight was the recipe we needed to create all this fog. there you have nice view of the east bay shoreline. not too bad. clearing out. it looks like it's 71 by 2 and still temperatures climbing looks pretty good for sunday as well into next week. there might be a little bit in the way of some rain trying to sneak back in here. we'll have the long-range forecast as well. no. well, thanks, dave. >> threat of a 5th wave of coronavirus has prompted california health officials to push for covid-19 booster shots for all adults, including people outside of the current federal guidelines. the director of the california department of health sent out this memo. it instructs medical offices and pharmacies across the state not to turn away anyone who is requesting a booster shot as long as they meet certain quite criteria. they do have to be over the age of 18 and they can only get the booster if it's been 6 months since their second pfizer or moderna shot or if it's been at least 2 months since their johnson and johnson shot. >> you think you will benefit from getting a booster shot. i encourage you to go out and

get supplies available. >> the announcement comes as southern california sees a slight increase in covid-19 hospitalizations and states nationwide are starting to see a spike in cases as well. now, one place you can get a booster is walgreens. but after seeing a couple locations in san francisco close earlier this week, 3 more walgreens are preparing to shut its doors next week while green citing ongoing organized crime for the shutdowns kron four's camila barco live in the newsroom with more details. camila. >> well, this isn't the first noel walgreens has closed more than a dozen of its stores in the city and now they are adding more to the list starting monday to walgreens are scheduled to close its doors for good and the company is also closing a 3rd store in the city on wednesday. and if you take a look at your screen. walgreens says this is the reason why employees have seen dozens of people like this walk into their stores and steal while green

executives say retail theft has continued to increase in the past few months. they also add that retail theft is 5 times higher in san francisco and what they see in other stores across the country. the company has invested in more security measures across the city to provide a safe environment. however, it wasn't enough for the stores. walgreens has closed 2 of stores in san francisco in the past week starting monday, they will close 3 more in the city. these are the locations on monday. walgreens is closing one of its stores in the richmond district is the location is 7.45. clement street people who normally get their prescriptions from this location will now have to get it at 36 o one california street. the company is also closing its stores in hayes valley. it's located. i 300 golf street prescriptions from this location will be transferred to 2145 market street and then walgreens is set to just close another store on wednesday in the

mission district. the it's located at 3400 cesar chavez street and prescriptions from that location will be transferred. 2 2690 mission street now, while executives say employees working at the stores that are set to close are also expected to be transferred to other nearby locations. so now if people live in these locations in the stores are set to close this weekend is the last weekend to either get your groceries or get those last-minute things that you may need. well, back to you. alright camila, thank you for that. a live report. >> in the east bay the community of walnut creek is grieving the shocking death of a longtime resident and volunteer after police say she was stabbed to death by her own son. police say they found 74 year-old darlene roth dead at her home early monday morning. kron four's dan thorn has the very latest on the investigation. >> a small memorial is arranged with flowers and candles at the mount diablo unitarian universalist church

in walnut creek. it's honoring the memory of 74 year-old darlene rock the beloved community member was stabbed to death on monday absolute tragedy. she was a lovely woman. enthusiastic energetic. >> she was involved in many community events. mayor kevin wilk says roth was well respected in walnut creek. she was heavily involved in sustainability, messaging and community food drives wilks says it's a big loss for the city. she just want to know what you can do to help the city. that was really what it came down to every time we met up, she would ask, i love. she would say i love the city. what more can i do to help the city. walnut creek. police say roth called 911 around 5 o'clock monday morning saying she needed help because she was stabbed. >> officers rushed to the home in the area of 2600 jones road lifesaving measures were taken. but roth succumb to her injuries. police arrested her son in connection with her death. he was later identified as 41 year-old, nicholas roth, a local sports writer with the bay area news group. it's

unclear what happened before the stabbing investigators say they are continuing to investigate ross community is left wondering what went wrong. completely shocking. >> and i think anybody that knew her just can't imagine this would have been happened to her. she was just a fun person reporting in walnut creek. dan thorn. >> kron 4 news. >> new this morning, an amber alert for a 3 year-old boy from sacramento has been canceled. chp issued the alert last night after responding to report of an assault. they say they found a man and a woman suffering non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and 30 year-old joshua yea go was involved in the assault and shooting. they say a go fled from the scene and the woman's car with her son inside chp did not say how or where the toddler was found. but that amber alert has been canceled. >> coming up here on the kron 4 morning news, a car theft in

deposit, plan and pay with easy tools from chase. simplicity feels good. chase. make more of what's yours. >> welcome back. at 7.15 on this saturday morning. and it's time for a check of our weather forecast. dave starr standing by. dave. you know, it has been an absolutely gorgeous start to the morning and i hope that that continues to the rest of the weekend. >> it looks pretty good. all this weekend. yeah. nice and warm get those temperatures into the 70's. it will come start to curve, you know, rode away a little bit early into next week as the high breaks down. but boy, enjoy this. we certainly need the rain. we've had lately and there is more in the longer range forecast to make note of that. we can soak up this weekend. looking pretty good at that. did talk about the dense fog advisory. we do have it in the bay still being posted all the way suspect. they may pull at some of these camera shots all over the place. look marvelous

here. beautiful blue skies going on. there is some fog off to the valleys. however, keep that in mind. some places that don't typically get one of the stubborn areas will be around the delta as well up in the bay there. solano county most of the traffic up to the north of us here we have high pressure basically in place that actually makes it difficult for the fog in the central valley to mix out, however, because you have sinking air on top of you. she can't get that mixed out. you can't get kind of those overcast skies to turn mostly sunny and your temperatures can be really crazy, too. so it's really sometimes hard to see what's going to happen there. lower 50's, a line at the east bay shoreline 47 for livermore 53 for antioch up in the north bay. we've got 50's and upper 40's to 54, by the way, for san jose. so pretty good sailing. smooth sailing, one on for today. owning some of that fog in the central valley, then some scattered clouds overnight. and we're going make note of a few of those tomorrow kind of pain in the skies a little bit. so won't be as blue tomorrow as it is today, but still pretty

good day. so looks good for sunday as well. keeping most of the action far away from home. however, by monday night into tuesday. that goes off the scope of this run. we do see a little opportunity for some showers up in the north bay. just a little little bit there. dense fog until 11:00am officially right now. warm and sunny mid 70's going on for high temperatures tomorrow will be some scattered clouds. we just went through some of that continued warm, upper 60's, upper 70's still possible in some of those inland spots. then for this week, some minor cooling. that's right. a shower monday night, perhaps in the north bay. but it looks a lot more interesting as we get into thursday night and friday. that looks like more earn a shot of rain highs today 72 san francisco, a 72 going on oakland 77 for san jose across the wider bay. we see those middle to even some upper 70's in the inland valleys coming up in a bit will be take a look at your 4 zone forecast and that extended well. >> thanks, dave. for 15 years.

miss excitement, but i i'm so much happier and so much at peace. with myself and with life and not living. on the clock when off the new set. her life was much more than a straight laced news anchor king won a number of medals for rowing used to ride motorcycles lived on a houseboat in sausalito and was a union rep at work. >> she's been call competitive tough and definitely non-traditional. i come by it quite naturally my her own woman. >> my mom. >> was a white woman who married a black man secretly in the 50's, then became a widow left to raise 2 brown children in the 60's by herself when she turned 50. she joined the peace corps. she left tv news in 2000, and

2 years later ran for oakland city council. >> that's the craziest thing i have ever done. one for office. i live east oakland. and my neighbors were getting and iran because they wanted to advocate. i'm so glad i lost. had had i won. i wouldn't ee doing my part. >> she doesn't painting anymore. but much of her early work. this one is called ballot or bullet had social things to be started taking our classes while still working in tv, but it became her main passions after a decision she made on heard of at the time for women in news. it started with my hair. as silly as that sounds. when i let my hair go gray. i i felt authentically in my own body for the first time in my life

and i was 50 at that time. i take courses in the morning because they work tonight in no rush to the studio and be all filthy and change my clothes but about halfway through. i took a. a sculpture course. >> and thatuwas dana king has a number of art installations and displays around the country and here in the bay area, including here at golden gate park monumental reckoning. >> this is the beginning of column golden gate park. >> this is the first sculpture that isn't your center. the firsticulture created by an african american woman. >> my hope is that other cultures. will come into this space. and inhabit it as well. what i want all people feel comfortable the theme of her sculpture work is black bodies in bronze including this statue of a civic leader in berkeley. >> and this installation at the national memorial for

peace and justice in alabama. one of her most recent commissions, a bust of the leader of the black panther party you'e newton and more to come and told stories for a living right. and they were on video or. >> digital or whatever. and if you missed them, they're gone for the most part, the bronze pieces are permanent. so the stories of the african descendants that these pieces represent. well last to be told as long as the bronze last and i could be thousands of years right. and at this point in my life be able to do that. in my own studio is a blessing. >> pam moore reporting for us. divorced with 2 adult children and a 5 year-old grandson. king says she is loving being a grandmother as well. monumental reckoning will be set up at the golden gate park for another year and a half. if you want to go check it out

>> with children in the backseat. thankfully in both cases. those children are now home safe with their parents concord. police say around 10 o'clock thursday night. someone stole a white van with a 4 month-old in the back seat. this was outside the wing stop on ignacio valley road. thankfully the suspect didn't get too far. officers were able to locate the abandoned car with the child inside just 30 minutes later and they were soon reunited with their parents. no arrests have been made in this case, though. meanwhile, a woman has been arrested for stealing a car with a one year-old baby inside in pittsburgh. police say a father parked his truck on bliss avenue shortly before 6 o'clock thursday night when 24 year-old natalie, i approached him asking for a cigarette. he said no. and shortly after police say she jumped in the driver's seat of his truck and sped off with the child still in the back seat. the theft was captured on a nearby business security camera. you can see the car

drive off. the father was chasing behind it on foot. this abduction and death set off an amber alert issued by chp about 2 hours later, police say the abandoned truck was found near army street and pittsburgh. a neighbor alert, a woman there that someone was blocking her driveway. >> we're because they had heard the baby screaming crying, screaming crying and then they looked in their last. the life of a missing near the door was open and they got the baby and this is crazy. this is crazy. >> a witness later spotted the suspect in pittsburgh just after midnight and alerted police. she was arrested on charges of kidnapping and vehicle theft. her bail set at $100,000. >> coming up here on the kron 00:00am morning news doctors encouraging folks to get a covid-19 booster ahead of the holidays. why they say it could help you if there's a case surge, this winter.

>> good morning. 7.30. here on this saturday. welcome back to the kron 4 morning news going to start off this half hour with a check of your forecast. hopefully you have some plans to get outdoors because it is going to be a beautiful weekend >> hey, good morning. well, good morning, everybody. it is. that will be in the 70's. lots of sunshine have to take care of the morning fog a little bit. there's a dense fog advisory that has been posted for most the city's in around the immediate bay and that extends off to the central valley where that fog

will be quite thick and hard to mix out this little different typical advection fog that we get that you see from wikipedia and when you go all that kind of stuff. this is a radiation when the sun sets, we have all the cooling that happens at night. dew point temperature go walking together and we get this. but a look at this and half moon bay. sunny skies. this fog is really starting to lift nicely as officially it's still in place. they may edit this. what we're talking to you this morning. but this is until 11 o'clock in just a wall of that. you can see in the central valley that will be tougher to lift off models even tell us that around the bay looks like easy task, but even around noon, it's a little thick off towards the east. most of the traffic and weather is going up and around us complements of high pressure, which is the other reason why the fog sometimes is a little stubborn in the central valley a bit temperature check. we have the upper 40's lower 50's covering us for right now. and your forecast today. not looking bad into the 70's as we get to the early afternoon now as a sidebar will probably pick up a few clouds scattered about

tomorrow afternoon, but temperatures really don't start sliding into we get to next week we'll take a look at some of the longer range forecast in a bit snow. well, thanks, dave. >> holidays right around the corner. some doctors say if you're thinking about getting a booster shot. don't wait any longer. kron four's. amanda hari spoke with one infectious disease expert. he says getting a booster now will protect you well beyond a possible winter search. >> my reaction was one of relief. i think the rules have been confusing to a lot of people. doctor peter chin, hong. >> is a ucsf infectious disease expert. he says this change will make things simpler. he says if you've got your second dose of pfizer moderna's 6 months ago or johnson johnson. 2 months ago. you should consider getting a booster, particularly if you're traveling over the holidays, it appears some websites have not been updated to reflect the change in eligibility. but when i called a few pharmacies, i was told they're getting boosters to all adults. the california department of public health says they have enough supply

doctor chin-hong says people shouldn't get discouraged by a 3rd shot because this could be the last one for some time and other vaccines where we had one to a few months and 3. >> it seems to protect us for many years. so unless is a scary new super very and that's resistant to everything. i think this they shot me carry us. >> for many, many years. doctor chin-hong warns there will likely be a winter covid-19 surge. that's partially because people will be gathering and there will be more tourism as people from europe come to the bay area and to california. and remember, europe. is that the cause of 50% of the world's cases right now in the last 2 weeks. but he says we may not see a significant amount of hospitalization in our area and more people receiving a booster will help with that in the bay area. i think we're going to protected and more than most because of high vaccination rates. >> but in other parts of the state sacramento central

valley, some parts of southern california. we're already seeing increasing hospitalizations increasing cases. amanda hari kron 4 news. >> to chp officers and 3 golden gate bridge district employees are recovering from injuries after they were struck by a truck while surrounded by people protesting against vaccine mandates. it all happened thursday night during rush hour traffic chp says the protest of about a few 100 people gathered on the east side of the toll plaza. it was just beginning to boil over when the crash happened. >> there were threats to take over in the traffic lanes. officers we teach me is what's going to bridge closed down the number 3 lane, station officers and other individuals there to prevent them from actually getting into lanes. >> that's when a ford escape collided with a street sweeper forcing a golden gate bridge buffer truck directly into the officers and those bridge workers. 3 people in all were taken to the hospital for

their injuries. they've all since been released chp says this accident was unrelated to the protest. but they're still investigating. a solemn day at sherman elementary school in san francisco students and teachers and staff return to campus friday for the first time since educator was killed in a car crash as a growing memorial at the intersection of union franklin streets in the cow hollow neighborhood. police say just before 8 o'clock wednesday morning. 70 year-old, susan vendor rucci ran a red light causing a chain-reaction crash that killed 30 year-old andrew simon as he was walking nearby. we spoke with one student who says she knew him well. >> he was really funny. loves the giant schemes. and would always take care of of all the kids and talk to them. >> the school has made grief counselors available for anyone who may need those services. police say the driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.

>> welcome back. some 44 on this saturday morning. and the chabot space and science center in oakland has reopened this weekend. they're celebrating with workshops and robotics demonstrations. the center has been closed for more than 18 months. but they took the time to complete construction on the largest refreshed for the center since the year 2000, the newest exhibit is called the nasa experience for visitors can come face to face and get hands on with heart attacks from space. >> we were able to take what was a very hard situation and

turn it into what we think is going to be a fantastic opportunity for our visitors. we really wanted to create experiences where kids could roll up their shirt sleeves and get their hands in the phenomena in the actual. activities that you might even see in a lab at nasa ames itself. >> the center kicked off its reopening last night. it opens back up to the public today with extended hours from 10:00am until 10:00pm and then tomorrow from 10:00am until 05:00pm. i assume those who are there very later, a very late tonight. we'll get to look in some telescopes as well. hopefully we've got clear skies this evening. dave. >> yeah, we're looking at maybe some scattered clouds going on to 9 o well and into tomorrow, a bit as well. today's a little bit of a clear day as we can see from the very start going. big thing has been little bit of the way of some fog went on to get things started. but that's how we have it in into the afternoon pushing those temperatures yes, through the 70's, it looks like inland. here's what we've got going on. a storm tracker 4, everything up and it can take

a little bit of a breather. but we do see more rain in the 7 day forecast. you can back in here. let's run through futurecast real quick for today. pretty clear. however we get to tonight, as we mentioned and overnight there might be a few scattered clouds are worth noting into the afternoon as well. we see the sunday. so it's not going to be as clear tomorrow as today but at least on balance. we'll see more sun then clouds going on. things don't really start changing that we get into monday that we see some clouding up here in anticipation of the next week system here. so it is high pressure going on for most of this weekend. that used to be a fair weather guy and all that. but it stops the rising of air a little bit in the central valley the big south that fog is sometimes problematic. let's run through the little points of interest here. real quick, that system kind of breaks apart here that on monday night, tuesday might be a little hit to the north bay to get a few little overnight showers pre dawn on tuesday potentially. but then clearing out on balance for the day, then this is a much more earnest hit as we get to

riot, former trump white house adviser steve bannon now facing criminal charges. a federal grand jury indicted bannon on 2 counts of contempt of congress. johnson deleo has the story. >> a federal grand jury indicted steve bannon for refusing to comply with the subpoena from the congressional committee investigating the january 6th attack on the u.s. capitol. the 67 year-old former trump adviser was indicted on 2 counts of contempt of congress. one for refusing to appear for a deposition and the other for refusing to produce documents congressional investigators pointing to bannon's own comments on his podcast the day before the riot where he said, quote, all is going to break loose tomorrow and tomorrow is game day. bannon's attorney told the select committee last month he would not cooperate citing president trump's assertion of executive

privilege. but bannon was a private citizen at the time of the capitol riot and the committee says his public comments on january 5th suggest he had some knowledge of the violence that would unfold the following day. the indictment comes on the same day former trump chief of staff mark meadows refused to show up to give testimony before the january 6 committee and who like then and now faces criminal charges. meadows is believed to have pressured former vice president mike pence to overturn the election. results. as pro trump rioters stormed congress pence was inside carrying out his constitutional duty to certify joe biden's victory outside the mob could be heard chanting, quote, hang mike pence now we're hearing from former president trump who was defending the riders who threatened his former vp in an interview with abc news reporter jonathan karl recorded back in march.

weekend, though. >> pretty clear, making up for it. good morning. well, good morning, everybody. lots of sunshine, those temperatures will be great into the 70's were doing a dry run for spring. okay. so you get a little feeling would be march or april. more like not so much into november. you're going to forget it is november. in fact. so a couple of days of this. and there's a little change as we get into early next week. temperatures will start to drop off a little bit as we have a change with this high start the weekend off. but it's a strong this weekend. here's a live shot coming in from half moon bay and i know 4e've been talking about this fog, dense fog advisory here. yeah. it's around the bay. the perimeter of the bay, all the cities around it up to the north bay valleys as well. and certainly the delta just as socked in there. we don't see that from our camera pictures, too. bad that this is a formal formally this is until 11:00am. we'll see if they start to chip away at that later on. let you know what happens with that. but as we're speaking right now, it's still in place off to the central valley. that's where the thicker fog is. but most of the bay fog should be taken care of by the late morning

hours with the high in place. most of the traffic from the pacific is going up at around us now. we're going to see the high breakdown in some of this will start sagging in dropping into the bay area again as early as early next week. monday with a lot more cloud cover cooler temperatures and maybe a shot at a north bay shower perhaps on monday night temperature check for you. as we head clear skies overnight and not much the way of winds temperatures were able to kind of go into somewhat of a free fall. but the cushion was the humidity can get below dew that kept temperatures supported in produce that radiation fog factor again or to leave fog, if yru like, in the central valley a little bit. alright winds. they were doing much either overnight, which is another factor that helps with the fog development single digits as what we're over most the region and calm weather too. so temperature. check into the afternoon. we'll probably pop in the lower 70's by about noon and stay that way into the early afternoon. some spots maybe by today or tomorrow will pop in the middle to upper 70's even potentially. so a nice weekend

to make up for all the rain as we've had over the last couple. however, next week looks like we're looking at some rain coming again. end of the week and earn a shot will get all of that in the woods coming up in just a bit. noel, thanks, dave. >> the threat of a 5th wave of coronavirus has prompted california health officials to push for covid-19 booster shots for all adults, including those outside of the current federal guidelines, the director of the california department of health sent out this memo. it instructs medical offices and pharmacies across the state not to turn away anyone who is requesting a booster shot as long as they meet certain criteria. they do have to be over the age of 18 and they can only get the booster if it's been 6 months since their second pfizer or moderna shot or if it's been at least 2 months since their johnson johnson shot. >> you think you will benefit from getting a booster shot. i encourage you to go out and get supplies available. >> the announcement comes as southern california does see a

slight increase in covid-19 hospitalizations and states nationwide are starting to see a spike in cases as well. now for one place you can get a booster shot is at a walgreens. but after seeing a couple locations in san francisco. close earlier this week. 3 more are preparing to shut its doors next week. citing ongoing organized crime for the shutdowns kron four's camila barco joins us live in the newsroom with more details. camila. >> yes. and while starting monday walgreens is closing a 3rd store in the richmond district and another one in hayes valley and the company is also shutting down a 3rd store on wednesday in the mission district. if you look at your screen walgreens executives claim this is why employees have seen dozens of people like this walk into their stores and steel walgreens executives say retail theft has continued to increase in the past few months. they add it's 5 times higher in san francisco compared to other its other stores across the country. the

company has invested in more security measures across the city to make it safer for customers, but it was too late for the stores. 2 of them closed earlier this week in south san francisco. 2 more will shut down on monday. here are the locations. one in the richmond district at 7.45 clement street, one in hayes valley at 300 cost street on wednesday. walgreens will close another store in the mission district at 3400 cesar chavez street prescriptions from all of these locations will be automatically transferred to other walgreens in those areas and those locations are no more than 10 minutes away. but they will be a change for 3 quinn customers. now walgreens executives say employees working at the stores set to close are expected to be transferred to other nearby locations in the newsroom. camila barco kron 4 news. thanks, camila. >> a $10,000 reward is being offered for information

>> good saturday morning to you. welcome back to the ground for morning news at 8.30 here and we are starting off in this half hour with a check of the forecast. we had pretty thick fog earlier this morning in some parts, dave has that started to clear out just yet. we're seeing a clearing a little bit the notice is still for the dense fog advisory that goes on until 11 o'clock this morning in the central valley, it's going to be a little bit more stubborn. >> tends to be the fashion that we have with the high pressure, particularly overhead. it's a little bit of a lid mix. a little harder for us to do that because you have falling air and we need rising air mixing. >> for now, though, are pictures are pretty good, though. look at this half moon bay. this is an area where we typically see fog. our normal advection fog and it's clear skies as we start our day today, the dense fog advisories you see doesn't cover the coastal areas. it's really around the bay in these low-lying areas where the fog kind of settles for took the off towards the central valley fog tracker just tracking it. you can see it mixes out well before the noon hour so what what we have in terms of

army street in pittsburgh. a woman says a neighbor called to tell her someone was blocking her driveway and they said it was weird because they heard the baby screaming. >> crying, screaming crying and then they looked in their last. the life of a missing near the door was open and they got the baby and just after midnight. police were tipped off that medley. iowa was walking on bourbon street. >> she was arrested and booked for kidnapping and vehicle theft. >> she's being held at the martinez detention facility. her bail set at $100,000 in pittsburgh. phillipe djegal all kron 4 news. >> while police in concord are working on a very similar case a 4 month-old baby was in a car thursday night around 10:00pm when someone jumped in that car and took off with the baby still inside video showing their the emotional reunion between the mother and her child concord. police responded to the call from the 5400 block of ignacio valley road police were grateful to locate the abandoned car with the child still inside and

safe on event to drive just 30 minutes later, an extensive search for the canine and air support began for the suspect. the person has not yet been located. and san francisco police have released more details in the crash that killed an elementary school educator 70 year-old susan the vendor rucci has been arrested. police say she drove through a red light at the intersection of union and franklin streets in cow hollow. it resulted in a multi vehicle crash that killed 30 year-old andrew is iman investigators say impairments does not appear to be a factor in all of this. spending rucci is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and running that red light diamond was a beloved educator at the nearby sherman elementary school. the community is continuing to mourn his loss, leaving a memorial there on the sidewalk in the area of the crash. also san francisco, a 25 year-old man has died from his injuries

are looking for that shooter. it happened at buchanan and hate streets the night of october. 23rd police say a car crashed into a pole. the victim was inside suffering from a gunshot wound. police are conducting a homicide investigation. now the victim died back on tuesday. this is just one of several recent shootings that have happened in the haight ashbury neighborhood. up in the north bay. now, 2 women facing charges for shooting a 17 year-old boy as well as robbery and prostitution. the victim told sandra fell police he was in the area of medway road in belvidere street around 2.20 in the morning on tuesday. he and 2 women were inside a car when they got into an argument he says one woman shot him in the leg. the victim was able to escape and call police the following night antioch police say they located both of those suspects. they're from sacramento and are now booked into the marion county jail.

will do some of those upper 60's, 72 for burlingame doubt of the south will see foster city at 74 palo alto 76 along with san carlos in the south bay. also looking at upper 70's morgan hill 79 los gatos it 79 to cupertino 77 east bay shoreline mid 70's matching that in tri valley after taking the morning fog, of course, 76 for walnut creek. 70 for berkeley. 68 delay. whoa. fairfield at 7073 for napa and 79 coming in for santa rosa. that's a high working its magic for in those valleys, you might see temperatures pop and you might see the same thing for tomorrow as well. so again, monday night tuesday is that little shot of maybe rain. we're looking for a possibility of more earnest when we get into thursday and into friday. thanks, dave. >> another spectacular show of nature's sequoia trees have lived for thousands of years and are known for being almost invincible at more than 250 feet tall there among the

largest living things on earth. just one tree can weigh more than 100 elephants. chip yost takes a look. >> this is just a giant sequoia tree and the black mountain grove. this all burned in the fear fire in 2017 in and around sequoia national forest in central california. experts are studying the changing relationship between sequoia trees and wild fires. the only place in the world where sequoias grow naturally is on the western slopes of the sierra nevada mountain range with most of them located in narrow 60 mile stretch of forest. >> just east of fresno. the sequoia trees, you'll find there. we're considered the largest trees on earth. many are thousands of years old and have survived countless fires during their lifetimes. but recently their fire survival rate has taken a hit.

>> it is getting scary, especially to see one of the most fired opted organisms on earth being burned up in fire. that's a very scary change. kristie brigham is the chief of resources management and science. >> for sequoia and kings canyon national parks. she says the change was especially noticed during last year's castle fire in the castle fire. we lost between 7,510 1600. >> sequoias over 4 feet in diameter. that's a lot that's 10 to 14% of the entire population. the change in the trees ability to survive a surprising. >> since the sequoia is built to coexist with fire. >> that sounds hollow. >> in part due to its thick bark that insulate it from the fire and in part due to its size since in most cases for a fire to kill a sequoia. it would have to get all the way up into the canopy. a tall

task indeed. >> there are adapted to fire. look how far off the ground. the branches are. >> in addition sequoias need fire to reproduce and seeing the base of a tree blackened by fire can actually be a good thing since it means the seeds which sit inside the cones high up on the trees may have gotten the heat they needed to be released. the radiation from the heat. >> opens up the cones and then they drop their seeds and they'll drop thousands. so right after the fire. this was a carpet. a little tiny giant sequoias. >> well, touring an area burned by this year's windy fire sequoia national forest stretching fitzgerald also showed us how the trees heal themselves after the fire passes. you know, it got a little injured from the fire >> you can actually see it's trying to put out some sap trying to heal some of the

wounds. >> ideally in normal times. this burn and he'll cycle would repeat itself every 10 to 20 years. but these are not normal times. this is an alarming time for giant sequoias. >> and for for us all throughout our coming up in our next report. we look at what's caused the change and at some of the extraordinary steps firefighters and forced workers have taken to try and save the sequoias during recent fires. for now on the western slopes of california sierra nevada mountain range. i'm chip yost. >> in the north bay. the sonoma county sheriff's office is investigating the death of this horse. sheriff's deputies say early monday morning, someone shot and killed the 26 year-old american quarter horse named buddy near roadway in castle darrow anyone with information on horse death is asked to contact the sheriff's office. we'll be right back after the break.

13th. we're halfway through the month already. >> and we're kind of feeling like spring a little bit instead fall almost winter dave spahr standing by in the weather center with a look at our forecast for this weekend a day. >> good morning. welcome morning, everybody. we are looking at temperatures to soar into the 70's this afternoon. now we do have to do with some morning fog a little bit are pictures that we're to to be in, don't see the fog intrusion. but there has been a dense fog advisory that's been posted a covered the perimeter of the bay mostly as we're talking about here and that should mix up by 11 o'clock, although it looks like it's going to bring nice job. but even by this time a live shot for you coming in from half moon bay. this is not a place that's affected or ever was even a dawn. it wasn't the coastal areas. it was really around the immediate bay. this is where you see the time the tan color and it extends to the delta off to the central valley. that's a little tougher to clear out. but a lot of these valleys around the immediate bay, the fog started to hover a little bit there and going for the models. we can see

quickly clears out to the bay kind of lingers a little bit in central valley. most the traffic is up around us. it's high pressure that's going help us out this weekend. lots of nice warm temperatures to dish out lower to middle 50's at this hour. 48 for santa rosa 55 san francisco, even half moon bay at 63. well, it's all that glorious sunshine we've been seeing this morning, not much the way of winds. that's another factor that helped this fog develop single digits to calm will cover us and covering the rest of today here. we've got 70's expected for highs today. dipping back to the upper 60's by late this afternoon, early evening. coming up a little bit. we'll take a look at the entire weekend and coming up next week or a couple bouts of chances to see a few showers. noel. >> the threat of the 5th wave of coronavirus has now prompted california health officials to push for covid-19 booster shots for all adults, including people outside of the current federal guidelines. the director of the california department of health sent out this memo instructs medical offices and pharmacies across the state not to turn away anyone who is

requesting a booster shot as long as they meet certain criteria. you have to be over the age of 18 and you can only get a booster if it's been 6 months since your second pfizer moderna shot or if it's been at least 2 months since you're johnson and johnson shot. >> you think you will benefit from getting a booster shot. i encourage you to go out and get supplies available. >> the announcement does come a southern california is seeing a slight increase in covid-19 hospitalizations and states nationwide are starting to see a spike in cases as well. one place you can get a booster is your local walgreens. but a couple of locations in san francisco closed earlier this week and 3 more are preparing to shut its doors next week. citing ongoing organized crime for those shutdowns. kron four's camila barco is breaking it all down for us live in the newsroom with more. hey, camilla. >> yes, all starts monday. walgreens is closing a store in the richmond district and another one in hayes valley.

the company is also shutting down a 3rd store on wednesday in the mission district. and if you look at your screen walgreens executives, claim executives, claim. this is why employees have seen dozens of people like this walk into their stores and steel walgreens executives say retail theft has continued to increase in the past few months. they also add it's 5 times higher in san francisco compared to its other stores across the country. the company has invested in more security measures across the city to make it safer, but it was too late for these stores. 2 of them closed earlier this week in south san francisco. 2 more will shut down on monday. here are the locations. one in the richmond district at 7.45 clement street, one in hayes valley and 300 ga street. and like i said on wednesday, walgreens will close another store in the mission district at 3400 cesar chavez street

now prescriptions from all of these locations will be automatically transferred to other walgreens in those areas. those locations are no more than 10 minutes away, but they will be a change for frequent customers and walgreens executives say employees working at the store that are set to close are expectsd to be transferred to other nearby locations while back to you. alright camila, thank you for that live report. >> in the east bay the community of walnut creek is grieving the shocking death of a longtime resident and volunteer after police say she was stabbed to death by her own son. police say they found 74 year-old darlene roth dead at her home early monday morning kron four's dan thorn has the very latest on the investigation. >> a small memorial is arranged with flowers and candles at the mount diablo unitarian universalist church in walnut creek. it's honoring the memory of 74 year-old darlene roth, the beloved community member was stabbed to death on monday at absolute

tragedy. she was a lovely woman enthusiastic energetic. >> she was involved in many community events. mayor kevin wilk says roth was well respected in walnut creek. she was heavily involved in sustainability, messaging and community food drives wilkes says it's a big loss for the city. she just want to know what you can do to help the city. that was really what it came down to every time we met up, she would ask, i love. she would say i love the city. what more can i do to help the city. walnut creek. police say roth called 911 around 5 o'clock monday morning saying she needed help because she was stabbed officers rushed to the home in the area of 2600 jones road lifesaving measures were taken. but roth succumb to her injuries. police arrested her son in connection with her death. he was later identified as 41 year-old, nicholas roth, a local sports writer with the bay area news group. it's unclear what happened before the stabbing investigators say they are continuing to investigate ross

>> a woman in pittsburgh is in custody after police say she stole a truck with a one year-old girl sitting inside. police say a father parked his truck on bliss avenue shortly before 6 o'clock thursday night when this woman 24 year-old, natalie, i approached him asking for a cigarette. he said no. and shortly after police say she jumped in the driver's seat of the truck and sped off with the child in the backseat. the theft was captured on a nearby business security camera. you can see in the distance there. the car driving away. the father chased behind it on foot. the abduction and that set off an amber alert issued by chp about 2 hours later, police say the abandoned truck was found near army street and pittsburgh. a neighbor alerted a woman there that someone was blocking her driveway.

>> we're because they heard the baby screaming looked in their last. the life of a missing near the door was open and they got the baby and this is crazy. this is crazy. >> a witness later spotted the suspect in pittsburgh just after midnight and was able to alert police. she's being charged with kidnapping and vehicle theft. her bail set at $100,000 that wasn't the only car stolen with the baby inside of it this week in the east bay conquered police are still looking for the suspect who they say stole a white van with a 4 month-old inside the back seat late thursday. this one happening outside the wing stop pounding not valley road officers were able to locate the abandoned car with the child inside just 30 minutes after the report. you can see the mother holding on to the baby after they were reunited. so far, though, no arrests have been made >> trying off with some fog going on. we can see a little bit off to the distance here. the east bay shoreline as we see temperatures this afternoon get into the 70's.

it's a pretty decent, you know, in picking the sunshine hitting you'll fill nicely like even in half moon bay. they're already seeing temperatures in the 60's there not being. >> they're not being affected really by this intrusion of this fog going on. it's more based centric and off to the delta and central valley is where it's been hovering that dense fog advisories with us until 11 is a formality, although in some of the pictures that we're showing you looks like it's clearing out, including the iconic golden gate bridge it too. not really affected too much by this fog, at least not now was earlier but not not so much going on now. there's the fog off to the distance there. as you can see, nice blue skies. enjoy that more of that to come for today. ultimately this traffic up here, we'll start to sag to the south a little bit going on tomorrow and most notably by monday. we also see temperatures respond accordingly all that too temperature. check. we got the 50's going on for right now. half moon bay at complements of all that sun. was like for the high almost 48 going on santa rosa. some last-minute cooling off to a tri valley 54 and lower 50's happening well

inland, so future cast for there's the central valley fog that mixes out pretty good for today. tonight, some scattered clouds into your sunday, although some clear patches in there and by monday we'll see the start to kind of really thicken up there may have to call partly cloudy are very but clouds for your monday monday night little opportunity for sprinkle that will probably be up in the north bay a little bit. not terribly impressive, but it's later in the week. things are a little bit more interesting. so putting this all together for us. dense fog advisory to 11 warm and sunny mid 70's by areas pump in the upper 70's. but then tomorrow we do have some of those scattered clouds continuing warm. yes, upper 60's going on upper 70. so depending on where you are from the coast to those well inland areas got to the 10 degree spread or so then for this some minor cooling early in the week. it looks like there's a little chance of a shower in the north bay on monday night. then another one in mentioned this here. but another one for thursday into

nationally recognized coulter always created. i've always done open a bag clay and see what i'm just on zone. and it just is a place of peace for me. it is quite a contrast from her 25 year long journey in television. 15 of those years in local news, i do not miss working on the days. i miss that adrenaline rush. i miss excitement, but i i'm so much happier and so much at peace. with myself and with life and not living. on the clock when off the new set. her life was much more than a straight laced news anchor king won a number of medals for rowing used to ride motorcycles lived on a houseboat in sausalito and was a union rep at work. >> she's been call competitive tough and definitely non-traditional. i come by it quite naturally my mother. was

her own woman. >> my mom. >> was a white woman who married a black man secretly in the 50's, then became a widow left to raise 2 brown children in the 60's by herself when she turned 50. she joined the peace corps. she left tv news in 2000, and 2 years later ran for oakland city council. >> that's the craziest thing i have ever done. one for office. i live east oakland. my neighbors are getting iran because they wanted to advocate. i'm so glad i lost. had had i won. i wouldn't be doing my art. >> she doesn't painting anymore. but much of her early work. this one is called ballot or bullet had social things to be started taking our classes while still

working in tv, but it became her main passions after a decision she made on heard of at the time for women in news. it started with my hair. as silly as that sounds. when i let my hair go gray. i i felt authentically in my own body for the first time in my life and i was 50 at that time. i take courses in the morning because they work tonight in rush to the studio and be all filthy and change my clothes but about halfway through. i took a. a sculpture course. >> and that was dana king has a number of art installations and displays around the country and here in the bay area, including here at golden gate park monumental reckoning. >> this is the beginning column i golden gate park. >> this is the first sculpture that isn't center. the culture created by an african american

woman. >> my hope is that other cultures. will come into the space. and inhabit it as well. what i want all people feel comfortable the theme of her sculpture work is black bodies in bronze including this statue of a civic leader in berkeley. >> and this installation at the national memorial for peace and justice in alabama. one of her most recent commissions, a bust of the leader of the black panther party you'e newton and more to come and told stories for a living right. >> and they were on video or. digital or whatever. and if you missed them, they're gone for the most part, the bronze pieces are permanent. so the stories of the african descendants that these pieces represent. well last to be told as long as the bronze last. and that could be thousands of years right. and at this point in my life be

statement goes until 11 o'clock today. so that would be in the pretty good timing of all of that. it will leave behind ithin lots of nice sunshine for you and help push those temperatures in the inland valleys to get into the mid to potentially even upper 70's in some spots. i here's what we got for right clear skies happening in half moon bay. this was never really impacted by the fog. we're talking about so blue skies of help temperatures warm. here is the coverage area. it's really around the perimeter of the bay and inland into the central valley again until 11 o'clock for today. most of this is mixing out nicely next couple of hours. we'll take care of just about everybody. looks like most the traffic is north of us. thanks to high pressure. that's going to weaken early into next week. we'll start to see some cooling temperatures will bit more in the way of some scattered clouds and we have the chance little passing shower looks like monday night mid-fifties going on in the east bay shoreline inland still. but cool because some of that fog going on. 54 livermore 53 for antioch and a chilly 48 up to santa rosa for today. we're talking 70's into

collided with a street sweeper forcing a golden gate bridge buffer truck directly into the officers and the bridge workers. 3 people were taken to a hospital for their injuries. they've all since been released. chp says the accident was unrelated to the protest, but they are still investigating. a $10,000 reward is now being offered for information leading police to the people who are responsible for this little boy's death 23 month-old jasper wu was struck by a stray bullet while in the car with his mom on. i 80 in oakland last saturday. now the oakland chinatown chamber of commerce is offering reward. >> i think it's a collective effort. i don't think money alone is the we need people to feel remorseful for this family. we need people to feel empathy for what happened and we need people to think about what if this was a child of yours. what if this was a relative of yours. would you want people to bring that same information forward so that the people responsible could be held accountable. i think

indicted steve bannon for refusing to comply with the subpoena from the congressional committee investigating the january 6th attack on the u.s. capitol. the 67 year-old former trump adviser was indicted on 2 counts of contempt of congress. one for refusing to appear for a deposition and the other for refusing to produce documents congressional investigators pointing to bannon's own comments on his podcast the day before the riot where he said, quote, all is going to break loose tomorrow and tomorrow is game day. bannon's attorney told the select committee last month he would not cooperate citing president trump's assertion of executive privilege. but bannon was a private citizen at the time of the capitol riot and the committee says his public comments on january 5th suggest he had some knowledge of the violence that would unfold the following day. the

>> welcome back. just about to be 9.45 here on this saturday morning was just kind of looking over my shoulder here and i can see the fog is still pretty thick on the embarcadero. this morning. but things should start to clear out and over the next couple of hours. dave says we're going to have actually a lovely weekend. it looks really good morning. well, good morning, everybody. and the fog is very bay. centric going on here as opposed to it the we tennessee however. >> golden gate and then extends into the bay. also sfo, which is very near the bay as well. they're cooking on about a half hour to 45 minute delay there. so they're being impacted a little bit as well. meanwhile, what we have is all of this traffic that's going up and around us complements of the same high pressure zone that allows the fog to kind of settle in here a little bit, even with some of that daytime heating futurecast for we clear out pretty nicely for today. overnight will be some scattered clouds a little bit into your sunday as well. but they'll be a little bit more earnest. we get into monday.

that's going to notice the temperature change. we're going start sliding a little bit by monday as we cool off into next week. there is a little outside chance of getting a shower in here for monday night. but the bigger shot looks to be on to a thursday friday zone is which want to look for that. we see by monday things change. but thanks to high-pressure. we're enjoying today a nice warm day and also into tomorrow with again, the action due north. let's walk through this to see what we have here. the system breaks up by the time we get your monday tuesday. so all we get is the scattered clouds a little bit of the way of cooler temperatures, then thursday friday. there's that opportunity mountain snows with this package as well. so that's good to put some more up there. meanwhile, we break it up for the weekend. next weekend. looks to be pretty good at that. somewhat rain-free at least from this vantage point 4 zone forecast check-in like this 72 going on for san francisco and at the coast will be into the upper 60's. they were not impacted by the typical fog that we get. meanwhile, 70's cover around the bay. here's will notice foster city. 74 palo

alto 76 and out of the south bay readings in the upper 70's going on today. 79 morgan hill and los gatos cupertino. you have 77 mid 70's along the east bay shoreline. tri valley. you're also looking at the middle 70's 76 for concord. and that's only 5 conquer walnut creek at 76 68 going on for vallejo, napa, 73 and santa rosa 79. and we might get some more upper 70's going on tomorrow. still after all of that, here comes a parade of clouds, little rain opportunity monday night in the north bay. but more earnestly. it looks like by thursday into friday. we're still getting timing issues on all of that. but both of them look pretty good on that front. we just don't know what the timing of that. well, thanks, dave. >> an entrepreneur or who traveled with william shatner into space last month was killed in a small plane crash in northern new jersey. glenn de vries died when a single engine cessna went down in a wooded area in hampton township. one other person was killed in this crash to a
