today, tomorrow but also into next week as well. beautiful picture coming into the east bay shoreline. look at that. some oranges off to the background as the sun starts to loom in 8 a little bit for us going on here. most the traffic coming off the pacific will be very typical of this pattern going up in around us. so we will be in the dry pattern. it looks like not just for this weekend and this week. but even into next weekend as well. temperature check for us. we do have a couple 30's hanging on napa. 38, but mostly it's the lower 40's covering even the interior sections of the east bay and a little bit up in the north bay to their with santa rosa 43 coming in for the bottle. wind check. not much single digits. we have calm elsewhere. don't expect them to really pop it all really happening this afternoon and the breakdown for you with more of that orange hue off towards the distance. 62 at 11 by 2. we're talking 67 was told the shot single and with your painting activity there with water colors. coming up a little bit here. we'll have a look at your forecast for this weekend and beyond. well.

urging other nations to step up and do the same. despite the new travel restrictions americans will still be allowed to return to the united states. they just need to test negative before boarding their flight home. the fda says an experimental pill to treat mild to moderate cases of covid-19 is effective. but more input is needed. the agency posted its analysis of the pill yesterday ahead of a public meeting scheduled for next week. that's when outside experts will give their opinions over its safety. there are concerns about potential side effects in pregnant women and possible birth defects, though the fda did not did no to the pill's maker merck did not collect as much safety data on the medication as it did for other covid-19 treatments. developing news out of the south bay san jose. police say a second man was shot last night in campbell, while a high school football game was going on that shooting happening in westmont high school's parking lot just before 09:00pm. last night we

are hospitalized with major injuries after their car slammed into a tree in palo alto. police say the vehicle. >> was getting away from an illegal sideshow that involved at least 4 vehicles. the sideshow happened thursday night at the east end of the market arrow road near the palo alto baylands nature preserve officers say when police activated their lights a red chevy camaro sped away before crashing into a tree.

but the driver and his passenger were seriously injured. police say neither of them were wearing a seat belt. their dog also sustained major injuries. it had to be put down. a suspected intruder was shot and killed trying to enter the marine corps recruit depot in san diego yesterday that shooting happening just before noon. officials say the suspect approached a checkpoint on the base, got out and began walking towards the marines with a knife. those gate guards reportedly warned the person to stop several times before opening fire killing the suspect, the naval criminal investigative service is investigating this deadly shooting. it was that police presence at the gilroy premium outlets for black friday included officers on horseback. one shopper tells us he actually saw security at home depot chase a man he fled the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise it's not clear if they have are caught that man apart from that isolated incident, though,

celsius. ok. here's what's going on. and the view from space. most of the storm track going to stay up towards the north, not just this weekend but into next week as well. there's some little nuances with all of that. but we'll take a look at that in the longer range forecast models for you doesn't really get juicy into the following week. however, get used to this. we may get some high cloudiness throughout the day. but that will be about it. temperature check, though, wa far. we've come will have to go to 38 napa. rosa. but don't let those numbers for you because we'll warm up very nicely this afternoon off to the east bay. see plenty of 40's. but again, expect some dancing into the 70's a little bit here. 2 approaching about 80 for the sacramento valley later on today to 45 meanwhile, for san jose just running through this and future cast for over the next about 48 hours again noting some high cloudiness sometimes get a little plump be at times. but basically mostly sunny will cover the real estate. all the ways you can see 20 monday. here's the breakdown, sunny and nice this weekend upper 60's lower 70's. that will be pretty much the

drill then for this weekend or week rather its persistence. sunny and 70 ish that will be about the range. we look for. that's almost the 7 day forecast right there for you getting into next weekend. dry and mild temps hold near 70. there is a little bit of a system off to the pacific which to throw some cloudiness our way. but again, we'll take a look at that in your longer range. forecast models today 68 san francisco, lots of blue skies. 70 coming in for oakland san jose checking in at 72 watt of uniformity with temperatures going on here and we don't have a lot of cloud cover. we don't have a rain event or a wind event but still, even just a notch or 2 pa graffiti were able to manage numbers very close to each other. 70 for livermore east bay shoreline also around 70 68 going on for san francisco coming up in a bit. of course, we'll have that for zone forecast where you look that extended to know. >> nothing like a california winter. thanks. state christmas tree farmers are dealing with higher prices and christmas tree shortage. is this holiday season. lauren late has more on how they're handling the nick this

nationwide problem. christmas trees. the latest item to fall victim to a nationwide shortage harder to get and more expensive to buy last year's all surgeon christmas tree purchases leading farmers all over the country. over self supply that takes anywhere from 4 to 10 years to grow. combine that with the year of unpredictable weather for cultivating supply shrinks. i would say this year we're probably only going to sell about 30 to 40% of our sales from our farm itself. and the will be coming in from the trees and wisconsin trimming tree farm in athens is used to bringing in at least some non native trees to pad their soft. >> but manager sam george says ongoing supply chain issues mean getting the trees here this year comes at a price or cost has gone up. >> through the roof. one of the major price increases coming from the labor and the shipping. obviously with fuel prices are shipping has gone through the roof and then also the fact that, you know, everybody's really just having to pay a lot more to get the labor. there's a major labor shortage right now. george

says they're doing what they can to keep costs down for customers and they're grateful to be one of the farms. it's actually getting their full order. phil. >> even if it is more but we're trying to keep our price increase under 20% because. >> we know that a lot of other outlets are having to go up 3040, even 50%. even with that 20% hike. george says the farm will still in the season with a loss, but he says trim a tree isn't always about profit especially during a year like this one. and we want everybody to have an affordable >> you know, obviously the one of the major things with christmas is a christmas tree. so we're trying to keep it where everybody can not have access to one. he says he expects this year to be even busier than last. and even then they sold out of their supply in just one single week in athens lauren leighton news 19. >> despite recent smash-and-grabs in the covid-19 pandemic shoppers are flocking back to san francisco's union square. the start of the holiday shopping season is also seeing. >> a bigger police presence in the city's popular shopping

district, black friday, shoppers sold us the heightened sfpd presence was a welcome sight. kron four's. dan thorn has more. >> among the thousands of black friday shoppers making their way through union square cops could be found on nearly every corner. if you're a criminal, you don't want to come. san francisco police are out in full force as the sidewalks in stores have been taken over by people eager to score a deal. the police presence comes after smash-and-grabs have terrorized bay area shopping centers. the visibility of police has been comforting. it makes you feel safer walking around what's going on in world today. yeah. a lot safer. this is the biggest police presence i've ever seen. the pandemic took a lot of the air out of last year's black friday excitement. many stores decided to close on thanksgiving day and capacity was very limited inside to allow for physical distancing this year. it was much different. there's a lot more people out right now. it

>> 6 months ago, a gunman shot and killed 9 of his coworkers at the vta railyard in san jose. before turning the gun on him self. it was the deadliest mass shooting in bay area history and family members of the 9 victims say it's a day they'll never forget the agency held a memorial for those 9 employees honoring their lives. kron four's amanda hari shows us

how the community is still supporting those who were hit hardest by that shooting. >> a virtual candle lighting held for vta employees as well as the public. it's a reminder that those lost in the shooting at the rail yard will not be forgotten. >> it happened 6 months ago on may 26 absolutely. people. >> our impact in 6 months later. for the most part, nancy bull penrod is the director of the counseling team international. >> it's a group of mental health professionals that provide 24 7 intervention during a tragedy they responded to the vta shooting. full penrod says if people have a strong support system. they may be able to process the tragedy. but for others it can be more difficult they go home before gray walls. they don't seek. >> type of support, whether it's in a group friends or the in counseling. give him a hard

time dealing with that but events like this are small way to help. >> pastor bruce reyes spoke at the candle it he's personally been impacted by gun violence us 13 years ago my brother-in-law was killed ln a workplace shooting. he tells me this time of year can be especially difficult for those impacted by this we know all too well what this is like, especially around the holidays. >> it's been over a decade. the greece still sneaks up on you. he believes this type of event is important not only to remember the victims. >> but to bring awareness to mental health issues and gun violence continue to make visible these kinds of situations. if we're going to make any headway. >> and trying to stop them in the future. the director of the counseling team tells me it's perfectly fine. >> if you are someone that is

>> we have some heartbreaking breaking news to share with you this morning. the kron 4 security guard who was shot in oakland earlier this week has died from his injuries. the

guard was on assignment with one of our kron 4 news reporters kron four's camila barco joining us live from the newsroom with the very latest details this morning. camila. while the private security guard died at oakland's highland hospital earlier this morning. >> the guard went into surgery after he was shot on wednesday. he was then taken to the icu where he was said to be in stable condition. however, this morning we're learning he passed away because of a gunshot wound. now, the shooting happened just before 1230, wednesday afternoon in oakland. it occurred near the intersection of 14th and harrison mets near the 12th street bart station and lake merritt. the armed guard was with one of our kron 4 news reporters. this is a video of the scene captured they were covering a story in oakland about a recent smash-and-grab break in at a business in the area while they were doing their job. someone attempted to steal our reporters camera equipment. the armed guard was shot in

the lower abdomen. our reporter was not physically hurt. the armed guard was a former police officer and it is common practice for bay area television stations, including kron 4 news to send our crews out with security guards while covering stories in the past. the bay area news stations have been targeted for their camera equipment now, so far there's no word on a suspect description. police are still searching for the person responsible. if you happen to know any information, call oakland police. there is a $32,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest. well, back to you. camila, thank you for that. again, we are deeply saddened to hear about this it's devastating news. and our deepest sympathies go out. >> to that security guard and his family camila. we'll check in with you again later this morning. we do want to get you a check of your forecast now, dave sphar is in the weather he has the latest details. stave.

>> morning, we're seeing a lot of sunshine for this weekend's forecast. and we're going to keep that into next week. it looks like in temperatures, almost like spring-like rather than the traditional winter like weather that we see or as we go into winter, logical winter starts actually into this week. the pictures we have for you. this comes in from san jose state. a lot of blue skies to maybe some high cloudiness later on today. but on balance, we'll call it mostly sunny storm track keeps everything up towards the north and that really doesn't change for the whole week ahead will be a kind of looking at that in the longer range forecast models in a bit temperature checks still holding on 38 in napa elsewhere. it's almost uniformly in the 40's except a couple coastal locations in the 50's. so mild to cool to start things off here and our breakdown puts us at 62 by 11 by 2. but 67. however, plenty of locations will be in the lower 70's will be checking that out. your 4 zone forecast. and again, look at your extended as well. no. well, thanks, dave. >> on the peninsula. belmont

police are searching for this man after he was caught on camera in the backyard of someone's home as kron four's. gayle ong reports, police believe the suspect is connected to other burglaries in that area. >> belmont police are looking for this man. home security cameras captured his photo seen in someone's backyard in the area of casa bone avenue and corona at boulevard tuesday around 1215, in the afternoon. a neighbor didn't want to show her face. but explained what happened when she got home the neighbors asked me to go check on the house because the alarm was going off >> and i. come to find out the guy that was sitting in front of my house was the one waiting to pick up the guys and broke into their house and get away. the neighbor says the suspect took off with laptops and remembered seeing a light colored vehicle outside her home. police released a photo of a vehicle of interest, a silver 2021 jeep compass with a california license plate number. rv, the suspect is connected to other

burglaries in the area and are asking residents to review security cameras for any suspicious activity. longtime residents say they will be paying close attention. we have the ring and then we always try to leave a light on our cars and our driveway. but i mean, this is a safe neighborhood. it seems really scary. we've got a little kid. so. >> 7 early worried about. so what can i do? you know, i don't go anywhere. >> and to pay attention and i watch out. that's all i can do. my home has a security system. i homeowner. >> which i haven't bothered to conduct it. i'm definitely going to go ahead and do that and the belmont police department is reminding the community that that's and burglaries are common around the holidays. >> and to take extra precaution. securing your homes vehicles and valuables reporting from belmont. gayle ong kron 4 news. >> gilroy police say they are investigating a drive-by shooting that left a man dead.

it happened wednesday around 06:00pm in the area of leaves lee road and monterey street. police say 2 people were sitting in a car when they were both shot by a passing vehicle officers and paramedics quickly arrived on scene. but police say despite their efforts. one of the victims did die at the scene he's been identified only as a 43 year-old man from sacramento. the other victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover. >> these kids are especially thankful for everything that they have because it's been a rough couple then i can finally go on the swings. >> students at a california school giving thanks. this week why they are especially grateful after the recent wildfire season. we've got that story coming up after the that story coming up after the break. hi honey! hi mommy! oh i missed you! you just want to video call the kids.

>> oreo whose work hard work, making this winter wonderland come to life again. >> the resort opened a few weeks ago after the historic bomb cyclones but were forced to close due to warm temperatures. with the portion of them out in open. you know, it's fake it's pretty nice, you know, to get some practice. people of all ages soaked in the fun in no masks, no social distancing everything starting to feel normal again. and the next step it snowballs into good time on the year now, just pray for snow. >> sounds a little crunchy out there that was garage reporting for us palisades tahoe is also open this weekend. but not fully. and in this video, you can kind of see why there's snow around the resort for sure. but there are several grassy areas with just nothing on top of them. it might take some time before

that area sees a little bit more snow, especially as we look towards the forecast for this week. and even just looking here at home. it's absolutely gorgeous. which is something we really like to see. that's why you live in california sometimes for this type of winter weather, right. i'm hoping that maybe we've got some rain chances potentially in the future. dave, what are potentially all take that. well, what would have some potential for you that you can hang your hat on a little bit is towards the end of the forecast period. >> for now, though. expect more of this again tomorrow as well. nice blue skies east bay shoreline. >> nice view happening there as we start our saturday here going back up what does it look like this weekend. we'll talk about some grass. other probably be more of it because maybe some melting we've got temperatures in the 50's to about 60 or so going on for monday. this also pose a little bit of a problem to a chips away. a little bit. our bank account there that storage for the spring. in addition to hydroelectric power course than one too much coming through the gears at this time. so everything is a

balance in this upsets of a little bit. high pressure is the one in control over the entire west coast expected to remain warm. not just this weekend but into next week. it also sends most of the traffic north of us know. we'll take a look at the forecast models in just a bit. but there you can see the picture that we have might get some high cloudiness little bit this week and you always have some of that spilling on and we sometimes call dirty high a little bit temperature 41 on the santa rosa 38 still a nap at this hour. most readings off to the east bay into the 40's and even lower 40's at that not too terribly thrilling, at least early on in this forecast model. you see one system kind of snaps on by its very moisture starved. it may bump the temperatures down ever so slightly into next weekend. we're calling it fairly calm and quiet. although you can see a little surge of moisture is kind of winking at us a little bit. we'll see what happens there. but what's juice ear here as we get into the following week. yeah, they'll be nice that holds together. let's hope into the following week and it looks like a little snow packages coming with it

>> from the bay area's local news station. we now with breaking news. >> we have some devastating news to share this morning. kron 4 security guard who was shot in oakland earlier this week has died from his injuries the guard was on assignment with one of our kron 4 news reporters when he was shot kron four's camila barco joins us live from the newsroom this morning with the very latest details. good morning, camila. >> well, in all the kron 4 security guard died at oakland's highland hospital earlier this morning, the guard went into surgery after he was shot on wednesday. he was then taken to the icu where he was said to be in stable condition. however, this morning we're learning he passed away because of a gunshot wound. now the shooting happened just before 1230, wednesday afternoon in oakland. it occurred near the intersection of 14th and

harrison that's near the 12 street bart station and lake merritt. the armed guard was with one of our kron 4 news reporters. this is video of the scene. they were covering a story in oakland about a recent smash-and-grab break in at a business in the area while they were doing their job. someone attempted to steal our reporters camera equipment. the armed guard was shot in the lower abdomen. our reporter was not physically hurt. now the armed guard was a former police officer and worked for a security company based out of oakland. it is common practice for bay area television stations, including kron. 4 news to send our crews out with security guards while covering stories in the past bay area news stations have been targeted for their camera equipment so far there's no word on a subset suspect description. police are still searching for the person responsible. there is a $32,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest while back to you.

♪building castles in the sky♪ >> welcome back here to the kron 4 morning news at 8.15. it's time for another check of our weather forecast even if you just are waking up and kind of rubbing your eyes this morning. open up the windows because it's absolutely gorgeous out there. dave mother nature has really helped us out this morning. that's right. get the sandman stuff out of your eyes because we have beautiful sunshine here's us a shot of the golden gate bridge. kind of a little far. as you'll notice nice clear shadows of the work. >> a little bit of the way some high cloudiness will contend with over the weekend and early next week. but those temperatures look to be pretty inviting at that storm tracks ends everything to the north complements overdose of high pressure. it's pretty much going to be calling most of the shots for this week ahead. there is a weak system expected early in the week. however, it is very moisture. starved will go through. generally speaking without much incidents at all temperature check. we've got the 40's that piece of real estate up in the north bay here 48 for oakland 51 san

francisco and inland. we still a little chilly. there are now livermore in concord in the mid 40's 50 going on for any arc. so really for the next 48 hours ahead. we'll be sprayed by some high cloudiness at times through all of this sometimes known in the trade as a dirty high. but for the most part, been keeping most of the activity away from us just about all week long. so for this weekend it's sunny and nice upper 60's, lower. 70's persistence, sunny and 70 ish will cover it. however, a little warmer and the central valley and then for next weekend it looks dry and mild. now we might see a little bit of spring. some cloud cover in the long range forecast models. but nothing is really juicy into the early following week. here we expect those temperatures still hold at around 70. so get a load of this today. more this to come. 68 san francisco. we do about 74 oakland, 72 san jose and we see plenty of 70's on the board to know we're going to revisit this in the 4 zone forecast. and check out that extended and just a bit. noel, thanks, dave.

police presence and the city's popular shopping district, black friday. shoppers told kron four's dan thorn, the heightened sfpd presence was a welcome sight. >> among the thousands of black friday shoppers making their way through union square cops could be found on nearly every corner. if you're a criminal, you don't want to come. san francisco police are out in full force as the sidewalks in stores have been taken over by people eager to score a deal. the police presence comes after smash-and-grabs have terrorized bay area shopping centers. the visibility of police has been comforting. it makes you feel safer walking around what's going on in world today. yeah. a lot safer. this is the biggest police presence i've ever seen. the pandemic took a lot of the air out of last year's black friday excitement. many stores decided to close on thanksgiving day and capacity was very limited inside to allow for physical distancing this year. it was much different. there's a lot more people out right now.

wife 2 children and 3 grandchildren. he worked as an armed guard for star protection agency and as a former police officer, he has worked with many of us over the years and he took his job very seriously. kevin was always vigilant while out on assignment and his passing is simply devastating for our newsroom to hear the shooting happened just before 1230, wednesday afternoon near the intersection of 14th and harrison streets. that's near the 12th street bart station and lake merritt. our reporter was covering a story there about the recent smash and grab raid. ken at a business oakland. police say as they were standing in front of that business. someone attempted to steal our reporters camera equipment. >> our guard kevin was shot in the lower abdomen. our reporter was physically not injured. now kevin went into surgery after he was shot. he was then taken into the icu

explained what happened when she got home the neighbors asked me to go check on the house because the alarm was going off and i. come to find out the guy that was sitting in front of my house was the one waiting to pick up the guys and broke into their house and get away. the neighbor says the suspect took off with laptops and remembered seeing a light colored vehicle outside her home. police released a photo of a vehicle of interest, a silver 2021 jeep compass with a california license plate number. rv, the 3, 5, 2 police believe the suspect is connected to other burglaries in the area and are asking residents to review security cameras for any suspicious activity. longtime residents say they will be paying close attention. we have the ring camera and then we always try to leave a light on our cars and our driveway. but i mean, this is a safe neighborhood. it seems really scary. we've got a little kid. so. >> 7 early worried about. so what can i do? you know, i don't go anywhere. >> and to pay attention and i watch out. that's all i can

closed a fundraising page for the man charged with killing 6 people at a christmas parade in waukesha, wisconsin. darrell brooks faces 5 counts of first-degree intentional homicide after his suv sped through the parade route last sunday. supporters hope to raise his 5 million dollars bail. but published reports a go fund me closed that campaign for violating its terms of service. the company does not allow fundraisers for people accused of violent crimes. laundrie's parents have discovered a handgun was missing when they voluntarily surrendered their firearms to law enforcement the same day they informed authorities that their son was missing. that's according to the family's attorney, the laundries owned 6 weapons but only surrendered 5 of them to police. the family's attorney also said the laundries cannot confirm whether brian was armed with one of their guns. and when asked why information about the missing gun was not publicly shared the attorney

morning. camila. >> one. oh, well, the kron 4 security guard is kevin initiate a he died at oakland's highland hospital earlier this morning went into surgery after being shot on wednesday while on the job. doctors then took him to the icu where he was said to be in stable condition. however, this morning we're learning he passed away because of a gunshot wound. now, this is a picture of him. he wasn't armed guard. first, our protection agency based out of oakland. he was also a former police officer. she leaves behind a wife, 2 children and 3 grandchildren now the shooting happened just before 1230, wednesday afternoon and oakland near the intersection of 14th and harrison that's near the 12 street bart station and lake merritt. she was one of our kron 4 news reporters. they were covering the story in oakland about a recent smash-and-grab break-in at a business in the area. >> while they were doing their job. someone attempted to

steal our reporters camera equipment our garden. was shot in the lower abdomen. our reporter was not physically hurt. he went into surgery, but he died this morning. now it is common practice for bay area television stations including kron. 4 news to send our crews out with security guards while covering stories in the past bay area news stations have been targeted for their camera equipment. now as of this morning, there's no word on a suspect description. police are still searching for the person responsible. >> if you happen to know any information, call oakland police. there is a $32,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest noel back camilla. thank you for that live report again. our condolences and our hearts are going out to. >> kevin's family and friends. a lot of us worked with him, knew him very well. he was very vigilant on the job

look interesting on that front will show you that coming up later, 68 san francisco, 70 for open 72. meanwhile, for san jose. and the temperature board here we see lower 70's hovering the east bay shoreline a lot of upper 60's, even inland. however you get to the sacramento valley, those numbers start punching up to the upper 70's as well. we'll have your 4 zone forecast and that extended coming up. and just a bit. well, thanks, dave. >> christmas tree farmers are dealing with higher prices and christmas tree shortage. is this holiday season, lauren leighton have a little bit more on how they're handling this nationwide problem. christmas trees. the latest item to fall victim to a nationwide shortage harder to get and more expensive to buy last year's all surgeon christmas tree purchases, leaving farmers all over the country. oversell supply that takes anywhere from 4 to 10 years to grow. combin% that with the year of unpredictable weather for cultivating supply shrinks. i would say this year we're probably only going to sell about 30 to 40% of our sales from our farm itself.

and the will be coming in from the trees and wisconsin trim a tree farm in athens is used to bringing in at least some non native trees to pad their stop. >> but manager sam george says ongoing supply chain issues mean getting the trees here this year comes at a price or cost has gone up. >> through the roof. one of the major price increases coming from the labor and the shipping. obviously with fuel prices are shipping has gone through the roof and then also the fact that, you know, everybody's really just having to pay a lot more to get the labor. there's of major labor shortage right now. george says they're doing what they can to keep costs down for customers and they're grateful to be one of the farms. it's actually getting their full order. phil. >> even if it is more but we're trying to keep our price increase under 20% because. >> we know that a lot of other outlets are having to go up 3040, even 50%. even with that 20% hike. george says the farm will still in the season with a loss, but he says trim a tree isn't always about profit

lady gaga is back on the big screen and it playing a middle class social climber. it's a nerdy law student. adam driver who just happens to be the heir to the gucci fortune who wants nothing to do with his family's business. a series of events and his very aggressive new girlfriend soon to be wife has other ideas. and here is where all the fun and tragedy began the plot thickens as more of the gucci's are introduced each with their own agendas and wild personalities. thanks to a fantastic supporting cast of al pacino's jared leto, some hiking. jeremy irons it's and sometimes messy and reminded me of watching the antics of britain's royal family or america's super rich. the story is a little long at just over 2 and a half hours. but it's interesting. stylish beautifully performed by dean's list. b plus only in for the family. there's the latest from the disney animation factory and condo.

the time the guard was on assignment with one of our kron 4 news reporters. his name is kevin nishida. he leaves behind a wife, 2 children and 3 grandchildren. he worked as an armed guard for star protection agency and he is a former police officer he previously worked for several different agencies here in the bay area including the oakland housing authority. the san jose police department hayward police department and coma. police department. he's worked with many of us over the years he took his job very seriously. he was always vigilant while out on assignment with us and his passing is simply heartbreaking for us here at kron 4 as well as his family and friends. the alameda county sheriff's office just tweeted out this morning saying they're mourning the loss issued up the sheriff's office says they escorted his body from the hospital with full law enforcement honors this morning. they called his murder senseless and say he's

served the bay area honorably. the shooting did happened just before 1230. wednesday afternoon near the intersection of 14th and harrison streets. that's right near the 12th street bart station and lake merritt. our reporter was covering a story there about a smash-and-grab break at a business in that area. oakland police say as they were standing in front of that business. someone attempted to steal our reporters camera equipment, our guard kevin was shot in the lower abdomen. our reporter was not physically hurt. kevin went into surgery after he was shot and he was then taken to the icu where he was said to be in stable condition over the last couple of days. but unfortunately he did succumb to his injuries very early this morning. so far no word on a suspect description and all of this police are still searching for the gunman responsible. there is a reward for $32,500 for any information that leads to an arrest. and again, the kron

4 news family is sending our deepest condolences and prayers to kevin's family and friends this morning. it's time to get a check of our forecast. dave spahr is in the weather center. he has details for us. i didn't. >> okay. good morning. well, good morning, everybody. and lots of blue skies that we're going to have both today and tomorrow and into next week as well. just a little high cloudiness going on there and temperatures pretty mild to the period as well. we're talking upper 60's, lower 70's covering most of the bay area. a live shot coming in to the east bay shows these bay shoreline all lit up or nicely. the sun joins they're out. no. this is some sort san jose state and other again. see the high cloudiness off towards the distance. this sends a storm track up and around us. complements of high pressure now with some of the high cloudiness times we sometimes called it dirty high, meaning that that's why some high cloudiness is there. but on balance should be mostly sunny mid-fifties to check in the east bay shoreline. for now, 49 at the santa rosa 54 san francisco and 53 for antioch. the

and corona at boulevard tuesday around 1215, in the afternoon. a neighbor didn't want to show her face. but explained what happened when she got home the neighbors asked me to go check on the house because the alarm was going off >> and i. come to find out the guy that was sitting in front of my house was the one waiting to pick up the guys and broke into their house and get away. the neighbor says the suspect took off with laptops and remembered seeing a light colored vehicle outside her home. police released a photo of a vehicle of interest, a silver 2021 jeep compass with a california license plate number. rv, the 3, 5, 2 police believe the suspect is connected to other burglaries in the area and are asking residents to review security cameras for any suspicious activity. longtime residents say they will be paying close attention. we have the ring camera and then we always try to leave a light on our cars and our driveway. but i mean, this is a safe neighborhood. it seems really scary. we've got a little kid. so. >> 7, really something to be worried about. so what can i

do? you know, i just don't go anywhere. >> and to pay attention and i watch out. that's all i can do. my home has a security system. i homeowner. >> which i haven't bothered to conduct it. i'm definitely going to go ahead and do that. and the belmont police department is reminding the community that thefts and burglaries are common around the holidays. >> and to take extra precaution. securing your homes vehicles and valuables reporting from belmont. gayle ong kron 4 news. >> well, gilroy police say they're investigating a drive-by shooting that left a man dead. it happened wednesday around 06:00pm in the area of leaves lee road and monterey streets. now police say 2 people were sitting in a car when they were both shot by a passing vehicle officers and paramedics quickly arrived on scene. but police say despite their efforts. one of the victims did die. he's only been identified as a 43 year-old man from sacramento. the other victim was taken to

a hospital and is expected to recover. go-fund me has closed a fundraising page for this man charged with killing 6 people at a christmas parade in waukesha, wisconsin. darrell brooks faces 5 counts of first-degree intentional homicide after his suv sped through that parade route last sunday. supporters hope to raise his 5 million dollars bail. but published reports a go fund me closed the campaign for viola-ing its terms of service. the company doesn't allow fundraisers for people accused of violent crimes. brian laundrie's, parents discovered a handgun was missing when they voluntarily surrendered their firearms to law enforcement. the same day they informed authorities. their son was missing. now, this is according to the family's attorney, the laundries owned 6 weapons, but they only surrendered 5 to police. the family's attorney said the laundries cannot confirm whether brian was armed with one of their guns.

and when asked why information about the missing gun was not publicly shared the attorney said he and law enforcement both agreed it was best for the information not to be made public. now, police did find laundrie's remains back on october 20th his death later aside by firearm. brian laundrie was never charged in the murder of his fiance. gabby petito. but he was the sole person of interest. 6 months ago, a gunman shot and killed 9 of his coworkers at the vta railyard in san jose before then turning the gun on himself. it was the deadliest mass shooting in bay area history and family members of the 9 victims say it's a day they will never forget the agency held a memorial for those 9 employees honoring their lives. kron four's. amanda hari was there shows us how the community is still supporting those who were hit hardest by the shooting. >> a virtual candle lighting
