>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 7. >> good saturday morning to you. thanks for joining us here on the kron 00:00am morning news. i'm noelle bellow. it is december 11th in the bay area is getting ready for another atmospheric river. >> deadly tornadoes hit several other states overnight. we've got a lot of weather to talk we do have a picture of some of the damage from a roof collapse at an amazon warehouse in illinois. there's been a lot going on across the country. but we want to start off with what we can expect this morning and

into the rest of today. dave spahr has got you covered their heyday. >> hey, good well, and good morning, everybody. we start off with a cold one for you. going on. lots of 30's across the region upticking up to the north bay. we have a freeze warning that's been posted, at least until 8 this morning that officially will expires. the sun now joins us and we get some of that heating going on. it's going to be a dry saturday compared to what we've got going forward. here's a shot of the east bay shoreline. as you can see somewhat calm for tsar start but that freeze warning again to show you the geography covered. this is all in the north bay mostly in the valleys up in the north bay until 8 again this morning. you probably won't have any more issues with that going forward as our weather becomes more unsettled. here are the current numbers for you. 29, off to you folks in livermore, tri valley the typical cold air drainage there. that's colder air is more dense. that goes to the lower elevations. and we're seeing a check in little bit. insulation in the city at 45 san francisco, 36 even down to san jose and

don't expect a whole lot of warming going on for today. even though we see a lot of sunshine. by the way, for you overnight. let's go about forward with this. what's the fog? yeah, that's going to come with this as well. not a big surprise. it's kind of the footprints a little bit of the rain showers. joining us. there's the traffic up to the north. it will be dipping to the south throughout the day today. but today is a dry day with just the development of cloud cover a look ahead for you today. 49 by 11 by 2, we're talking 54 and that number is very indicative of what going to see across the entire bay area probably nobody is going to see even 60 today as the clouds are on the increase we're going to walk through on the rain that you'd who's going to get hit the hardest and all of that coming up in just a bit. noel. >> that is pretty gorgeous outside this morning. we haven't had significant rainfall since october or this one feeling like a true winter storm. it's pretty cold in some parts of the bay and the rain that is forecast for tomorrow. has first responders reminding folks. you need to

be prepared. kron fours, camila barco joining us live now with more details. good morning. camila. >> good morning. know, i'll see others going to be a lot of active weather in the bay area for the next few days. as dave said, there is a freeze warning in effect that's how cold it is right now that last for another hour. but and the next few hours later tonight and tomorrow we're expected to see several inches in several parts of the bay area and. pg and e says that they are on standby with crews ready to respond and they're warning customers to be prepared for possible power outages. but people should also make sure to have some water, food and flashlights with extra batteries. now the national weather service is also advising homeowners to clean their gutters and clear storm drains cities like santa rose are offering sandbags to prevent homes from flooding and a local fire department says that they are prepared to see heavy downpours.

>> the concern is whether or it stalls out and we end up with more rain than anticipated. but at this point right now we're looking at least upwards of 6 in areas like santa rosa in the north that. >> now here's video of the previous rainstorm. this happened in october now. it rained so much. several parts of the bay area flooded the storm knocked down power lines and trees. some of those landing on top of cars and houses. chp also responded to dozens of drivers who are stuck in flood water or hydroplaned off the road on the national weather service is warning people that this upcoming storm is going to cause for some slick roads. gusty winds and moderate to heavy rain. now, as i said, that freeze warning is in effect for another hour. but people should be prepared for this upcoming storm. and while it's dry right now, it is cold but it is the perfect time to prepare for that storm. will, back to you. alright camila, thank you for that live report

here in san francisco. you can pick up sandbags. >> at the public works operations yard this weekend. that's near the street and kansas street gate. the site is usually only open monday through saturday is but because of the upcoming storm tomorrow. it's going to be open through the weekend, including sunday. now business owners and residents can get up to 10 free sandbags. just make sure you bring proof of address so you can pick those up for free. in response to the heavy rains forecast and city of fairfield is closing rockville park today at sunset that part's going to stay closed through wednesday. the city says the closure is going to allow staff to assess any potential tree and rock fall hazards that might occur on or near the trail system. if you want to pay of this in his weekend. you do have to do it today before sunset. now, although the freeze warning for the bay area does expire in about an hour. there are several winter shelters open in several different counties, churches and community

organizations are open right now to people who need a warm place to stay. we're going to full list of those shelters and their operations are hours of operations on our website. kron 4 dot com. that's also where you can stay up to date on the forecast and what the rain's going to be looking like in your neighborhood use use your phone scanned, the qr code that you see on your screen. it will take you straight your app store where you can download the kron 4 mobile app. and we aren't the only ones dealing with some significant weather this weekend. a deadly cluster of tornadoes ripped through several states overnight, including arkansas, kentucky, tennessee and illinois. here's a look at edwardsville, illinois along the missouri border and about 4 hours. southwest of chicago winds from the tornado were so strong it ripped the roof off of an amazon warehouse and caused it to collapse police say workers were trapped inside and at least one person is dead. it's believed up to

100 people may have been working at the time of the roof collapse rescue crews are still sorting through the rubble. this morning. meanwhile, over in arkansas, a tornado hit a nursing home a net which is near the tennessee border. taking a look at some of the video there of first responders rushing in to help the craighead county judge says one person was killed, 20 others were trapped inside. the judge says 5 people suffered serious injuries. >> the windows and stuff are on the roof there all over the place. that got tears upside down to pretty much can't even tell that the building was even here before. >> and now they think stayed inside it's a picture that says jesus is the reason for the season. >> meanwhile, in kentucky, their governor fears dozens might be dead after the storm had a candle factory. there. officials say 3 people also died in tennessee where i know winds were reported about 80 miles per hour. there's another report of at least one

>> welcome back. 7.10, on this saturday morning after struggling to return to normalcy since the pandemic started. bart is seeing an increase in ridership on wednesday. the transit agency recorded their highest ridership numbers to date since the pandemic started with more than 125,000 rides. the agency credits, the increase of parking added that a lot of the stations as well as new air filtration systems installed in the trains to help boost ridership. despite the record numbers, though the agency still only at 32% of its pre-pandemic ridership numbers for the month of december. happening today, house speaker nancy pelosi and congresswoman jackie epear going to be in san francisco talking about the bay area's transit and rail infrastructure. that who are celebrating a bipartisan infrastructure law that's going to invest more than 4 billion dollars in our bay area. railways, highways and public transit. the event's

>> 7.14, this morning and blue origin has just launched its 3rd crewed mission on the new shepard flight. this time. michael stray hand and 5 other people went up into space with it. the flights are so short. they typically last only about 11 minutes from launch to landing but they have landed safely after a successful space flight. one of the key milestones for this launch was to have the rocket land autonomously at the launch site. i guess this space tourism thing really is becoming legit. >> you know, why is that less than 2 minutes to get up there. that's most the heavy lifting right after that, the propulsion energy, you need to go out. the space is nothing after that. getting up to that is the tough part. so yeah, we're practicing to get that

are to from up there wait, we miser, the mining up there. so anyway, good morning to all. good morning, everybody. hey, it's a decent day today with the clouds start to build up on us. and then very unsettled as we go through tonight and early into next week. we're going to plot all that for you coming up in a bit. right now we're starting things off again on a chilly cold note. again, do have those temperatures that are the 30's across the region. so as we look ahead to our next storm system. it is the footprints of what we typically expect this time of year. nice big, gulf of alaska low bout to dip south. here's the line. it will be interesting because it's going to be hovering around the bay through tomorrow. we'll show you that in a bit here in the 30's across the border. just about everybody except livermore 29. meanwhile, 44 for san francisco. but everybody else checking into the 30's. so not your imagination. it's cold everywhere. so today. kind of a mixed bag. some sun and clouds. the clouds start to win the battle as we get to later this afternoon into tonight. then we get around midnight or so. there's that rain developing to the north

typical occurrence dropping south were very involved early tomorrow morning. as you can see with heavy rain across the entire bay. then throughout the sunday afternoon. notice how the focal point is down to the south, santa cruz mountains peninsula, south bay. not as much in the north bay by comparison. that's a good against what we're looking at in terms of what the radar projections are. but also with this front that will be kind of lays. ali hanging around there. watch the wind pattern as well as we go into the future here. here's the winds starting to build arrows are all pointing from the south with this, even though ultimate is going to be cold system still out of the south as we wake up tomorrow and you can see the heavier winds remain in the east bay, south bay comparatively less involved up in the north bay kind of underlines where the rain is. so it's kind of the heavy winds following the reins. as of now, we don't have the statements with any of this is possible. that may pop a little bit later on. kind of piecing everything together here. increasing clouds for today. cool 50's for bay area. why this everybody going on then for

tonight we've got the rain winds developing. we just walk through that sunday rain heavy at times. and also will be the heaviest in continue waiting for the peninsula, south bay and also east bay next week. monday, tuesday, rain showers program. then wednesday. we get a little break. that will probably be wednesday morning falling down again wednesday night for more rain on your thursday. this will probably clean up in time for the following weekend projections. let's see what we're going to get overnight. we're approaching a quarter of an inch of rain here in the north bay and a good chunk of the east bay shoreline. then by tomorrow afternoon. yeah, we pick up almost a half of an inch of rain around the midday up to the north bay a little bit more. but with successive systems, of course, more is being projected for the entire week here. 55 sanford, 5657 for oakland 58 even for san jose. as the clouds when the battle on this and high temperatures are uniformly in the 50's across the region will go ahead with your 4 zone forecast in a bit. also, look at that extended to see other doses of rain coming our way. well, thanks, dave.

>> hundreds of san francisco students walked out over the district's response to harassment and assault incidents. the large group of students and staged a protest they had students from several of the city's high schools in attendance. kron four's. dan thorn has more. >> high school students from across san francisco. take over city hall demanding accountability. they're calling on the san francisco unified school district to do a better job responding to allegations of harassment and assault survivors should not be subjected to interacting with their abusers, especially in an environment that is supposed to be >> to find male female and members of the lgbtq student community were all there to support one another. they marched to the school board offices while holding signs and chanting hoping their voices are now being heard. >> and issue.

>> some of the city supervisors also applauded the students for taking a stand. >> giving me some hope and optimism for our future. thank thank you for coming. >> the sf usd on thursday sent a letter to middle and high school students saying they were proud of the students for standing up superintendent vincent matthews wrote in part, quote, harassment has no place in our schools sf usd is committed to taking all appropriate steps to make sure we educate prevent and address any incidents of harassment that occur in our students are looking for more than what they see as empty words. reporting in san francisco. dan thorn kron 4 news. >> turning now to our coronavirus coverage the covid omicron variant has now been discovered in the south bay

this time santa clara county. the positive patient recently returned home from a trip to florida. health officials say they detected the case after the adult felt symptoms on the last day of november that they say the case is mild health officer doctor sara cody says the adult had planned on getting their booster shot this month. her advice to others in order to help prevent the spread of omicron is of course, to vaccinate. get your booster mask up. test regularly being ventilated spaces and distance yourself. confident they are not the first case. >> or the only case and i anticipate that we will hear of many more omicron detections in the very near future. >> 79% of residents in santa clara are vaccinated but only 39% of those eligible to get a booster have done so. doctor peter chin, hong infectious disease expert with ucsf says the mild symptoms of santa clara county's first case of the new variant confirms what

experts have been saying for months, which is that vaccines do work. a couple of bay area counties are reviewing their mask mandates. meanwhile, the santa clara county health departments telling county leaders to keep their mask mandate in place despite the county being 79% vaccinated. the county could start loosening up restrictions at 80%, but they are being cautious of course, still dealing with the delta variant. and of course, that new case of the omicron there last year during the winter months. the county saw covid cases go up, alameda county decided just a few days ago as well to keep their mask mandate in place. that means wear your mask when you are indoors. marin county held off. officials are now shifting how they move forward with future covid-19 mandates. historically daily case. rates have been the main way to determine progress and to guide different policy decisions. but now the county wants to use hospitalization rates instead, health

officials say fewer cases are leading to hospitalization or death due to 85% of the county being fully vaccinated at this point. the new criteria for potentially reimposing a local mask mandate will be 5 covid hospitalizations per 100,000 residents locally that translates to about 13 people in the hospital with covid-19 moran's local mask mandate was lifted last month. a survey put out by the health department are in grocery stores found 80 to 90% of people still continue to wear their masks while shopping inside. it's recommended, of course, but it's not required. the covid clinic in downtown oakland at frank ogawa plaza is now reopening. that's after it closed earlier this week, oakland city officials say they renewed their partnership with the nonprofit clinic to help with operational challenges that were going on there. city officials say the clinic at frank ogawa plaza is going to open soon for both testing and vaccinations in

>> niners and warriors season here in the bay area will get to the niners momentarily warriors, getting ready for a big game in philly and there were significant news regarding head coach steve kerr not quite official yet, but according to multiple reports coach kerr. going to do double duty been selected as the next coach for team usa. he will replace gregg popovich and lead a revamped usa coaching staff into the 2023 world cup and then 2024 paris olympics. quite an honor. here. kearse coaching staff will reportedly include phoenix suns coach monty williams, miami heat coach erik spoelstra and gonzaga coach. mark few a formal announcement is expected soon. kerr he's good. he's coached the worries, of course, the 3 nba championships 5 finals appearances. who is the league's coach of the year and that 2016 season and was selected head coach for the nba all-star game twice.

kron 00:00am morning news are trying to get you prepared for what's to come tomorrow. we've got quite rain storm headed our way toews far as the weather center with the latest details. it's at least beautiful today with so we can at least enjoy that with a sweater. >> yeah, that's right. it's a little bit on the chilly side. even this afternoon. it's going to be kind of cool early looking at 50's for highs and that's pretty much everywhere, whether sure the coast of those inland valleys. again, cnn like spikes that happened for folks in the inland regions like we sometimes do for tonight, though, are for the overnight that we had. boy, it's cold. start with a lot of 30's out there. beautiful pictures that we have for today, at least boy, things will change in about 14 hours. are. so this is the east bay shoreline still kind of in the shadow of the east bay hills. but you can see off to the distance there. some orange colors for you. and our next storm system that you can see on the a pacific northwest just getting started here. looks like rain developing around the witching hour up in the north bay. now. first things first for technically another half hour or so to have that. freezing.

conditions going on until 8 this morning. that's for the north bay and for all those valleys with the temperatures will see why not much in the way of winds that worked in tandem with clear skies and fairly dry air. and as the system starts, it's actually going to be in the mild to warm side sector before some of the colder air will filter back in so to start things off. you've got a lot of 30's going on. we warm up to moderate 50's, if you will. and then the storm starts to play out. beautiful sunrise happening. here is half moon bay for you. clouds increase all day today. 50's. you can see by 2 o'clock. we're starting to build with the cloud cover coming up a little bit here. we'll walk through not just tomorrow but what we're looking at in terms of rain coming and going into next week. 4 zone forecast. of course, your extended as well. know. >> the second strongest storm of the season closing in here on the bay area. while the storm system is not expected to be a strong as the last one we saw in october first responders and pg and e are urging residents be prepared

for possible power outages. kron four's. gayle ong has more. widespread rain is returning to the bay area. the system is still located in the gulf of alaska. but starting saturday evening into monday. the national weather service is anticipating a weak to moderate atmospheric river to bring heavy rain and gusty winds and the concern is whether or it stalls out and we end up with more rain than anticipated. >> but at this point, right now we're looking at least upwards of 6 in areas like santa rosa on the north. but the heaviest rain is expected sunday afternoon and last into monday morning. paul lowenthal, the assistant fire marshal, the santa rosa fire department is urging residents to be prepared similar to during fire season or asking residents to clear their for amber cast. we're asking residents to clear gutters not only on the roof but in their yards to make sure the water goes really wanted to go. it doesn't lead to any backups or or damage cities like santa rosa and other communities have sandbags stations available pg and e is asking

customers to brace for possible power outages. make sure to have a flashlight with fresh batteries, food and water. >> pg says there will be extra crews on standby if needed reporting in san francisco, gayle ong kron 4 news. >> well, recently there's been a spike in coyote sightings. the city of santa clara tweeted there's been sightings unquote north santa clara at youa lastick natural area along guadalupe and calabassas creek and the city's closed golf course on tasman. it. you might be wondering, though what you should do if you do encounter a coyote city of santa clara tweeting out this photo educating the public on how to handle the situation. some of those tips listed don't feed coyotes don't run or turn your back and do not bend down to pick up any items in front of a coyote. according to them, what you want to do is yell aggressively and get as big as possible. you're also supposed to face the coyote and back away slowly. if you're with

welcome back. after more than 3 months a woman has been charged for hitting and killing a lafayette school crossing guard. >> the incident happened back on september 8 near stanley middle school. the contra costa county district attorney announcing 78 year-old phyllis me han has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. officials say me hand was picking up her grandson from the school awd a gmc yukon when she hit a car and accelerated into the crosswalk crossing guard 45 year-old ashley diaz pushed a child out of the way. but he was hit and killed. the child received scrapes and bruises. the hands. rain mundt has not yet been scheduled. oakland police are offering a $38,500 reward for information leading to an arrest in the shooting death of kron 4 security guard. kevin nishita, a

>> good saturday morning to you. thanks for joining us here on the kron 00:00am morning news. i'm noelle bellow. it is saturday, december 11th and the bay area's getting ready for another atmospheric river. >> this comes as deadly tornadoes hit several states overnight that left behind a trail of damage. got all the details on what's to come for us as well. so it's already happened across the country. the dave spahr is standing by. he's got a little bit more detail on when that rain is going to come to us because it looks pretty good outside right now. dave. yeah. except it's cold. yeah. good morning. well, good morning, everybody. and going to feel very winter like in this storm will be a winter like storm system. the lowest starting out of the gulf of alaska. >> we have in the injection of some mid-level moisture here. the atmospheric river factor gives us a lot quantitatively in terms of rain. so that's checking in. so it's a little nice, interesting package are also getting some winds with this as well. now, first things first, chilly start. there's the east bay shoreline lit up. now, as you can see off towards the distance. we

did have a freeze warning until 8 this morning. now that's now been expired, as you can see over the north bay all the way up towards the north. that's extended a little bit to later. there are temperatures. are still in the 30's. as you can see, even the east bay 33 for livermore 44 the only exception san francisco. but even the half moon bay at 37 now the storm system is actually going make conditions a little bit more mild as we go through this on sunday. before we get some of the colder air we filtering in here on tuesday. here is a bit of a fog. we're getting. that's just associated with the stormy weather. as you can see, as we approach the witching hour into the early overnight there's the storm system in place where the rain is as we speak way up in northern california, reading. as you can see, and it's also with that gulf of alaska low. so for today, yes, this is a chilly half moon bay in the 30's. but at least the sun is joining us 51 by 12 by 3 as we see increasing clouds at 54 coming up a little bit will walk through you. the rain that we expect in the timing of this along with the winds. well, thanks, dave.

>> now, we haven't had any significant rainfall since october. this one's going to feel like a true winter storm. it's very cold. tuesday was saying in some parts of the bay and the rain that is forecast for tomorrow as first responders reminding everyone to be prepared kron four's camila barco joining us live now with a little bit more in detail. good morning. camila. >> good morning. no, i'll see how we're seeing some of the coldest temperatures of the season this morning. and later to met tonight and tomorrow morning. several parts of the bay area are expected to see several inches of rain because of this storm. so pg any is warning customers for potential power outages. they have crews on standby, but they are also warning people to get some water, some food and also some flashlights with batteries. cities like santa rose are offering sandbags to prevent homes from flooding and a local fire department there says is prepared to use me to see heavy downpours. so they're advising people to clear their drainage is.

>> similar to during fire season or asking residents to clear their for amber cast. we're asking residents to clear gutters not only on the roof but in their yards to make sure the water goes really wanted to go. it doesn't lead to any backups or or damage. >> now, here's video of the previous rainstorm. this happened in october. it rained so much. several parts of the bay area flooded the storm knocked down power lines and trees. some of those landing on top of cars and houses. chp also responded to dozens of drivers stuck in flood water at or hydroplaned off the roads. so now the national weather service is warning people that this upcoming storm is going to cause for some slick roads. gusty winds and moderate to heavy rain now know all it is a cold morning, but it is dry outside. so today is a good day to prepare for the storm. some other tips make sure that your windshield wipers on your cars are

functional and reliable. i've learned the hard way. and also if you're out on the roads and you come flood or puddles of water don't attempt to drive through it because the outcome is not going to be a good one. well, back to you. that's right. turn around. don't drown camila, thank you for those tips here in san francisco. you can pick up sandbags at the public works operations yard. it's near the warren street and kansas street gate. >> the site is usually only open monday through saturday, but because of the upcoming storm, it's going to be open through this weekend, including sunday, business owners and residents can get up to 10 free sandbags. just make sure you bring a proof of address. in response to the heavy rains forecast as well. the city of fairfield disclosing rockville park today at sunset and it's going to stay closed through wednesday. through when that forecasted rain is supposed to be heading us. the city says the closure is going to allow staff to assess any potential

edwardsville, illinois. it's along the missouri border and about 4 hours just southwest of chicago. the winds from the tornadoes were so strong it ripped the roof off of an amazon warehouse causing that roof to collapse. police say workers were actually trapped inside and at least one person died due to that roof collapse. it's believed up to 100 people may have been working at the time rescue crews are still sorting through the rubble this morning. and over and arkansas tornado hit a nursing home net asked near the tennessee border. taking a look at some of the video of a rescue crews trying to get people from out of that just completely demolished building. the craig had county judge says one person was killed, 20 other people were trapped inside. they say 5 people suffered serious injuries. >> the windows and stuff are on the roof there all over the place. that got tears upside down to pretty much can't even

>> nice pictures a little bit on the chilly side, cold to start, though we have a a a freeze warning that just expired for the north bay. but we still have numbers of 32 santa rosa napa 33, as you see, could take a while to warm us up. also in the east bay as well. but this really underscores the fact this afternoon it's going to be moderate temperatures going on partially because it quite a bit decline and also the induction of some cloud cover from our storm system. you can see gulf of alaska low. here's a line of moisture from the mid latitudes. we're all set for a nice atmospheric river going on and here's how it comes together in future cast for increasing clouds throughout the day today. freeze it about the witching hour or so. here comes the rain in the north bay. starts at around midnight overnight. this is what we've got going on. this will be coupled with some winds involved as you can see it, the first light of day tomorrow and then it will shift form the bulk of the afternoon from the peninsula east bay points to the south. not as much in the north bay and they'll be some winds with this snow. most of the winds

throughout the day. tomorrow will be coming in still from the south. so this will be still somewhat moderate temperatures also with the focus of this rain. the concern will be the santa cruz mountains there's no statements yet, but i suspect we might start to see some pop a little bit later on as the straight starts to take hold. so looking at our winds going forward. not so much going on today. but as you can see with the induction of the storm system. strong southerly winds with all of this again, no statements with the winds either. but the dropping to the front is very clear. so the east bay peninsula and points to the south. you can expect those winds to continue sunday afternoon and early at least sunday evening. so for today, it's increasing clouds will be cool, though 50's for the bay area wide tonight through sunday. rain, wind developing and it will be with us through sunday, rain heavy at times focal point. san francisco point south. for the most part, the next week. monday and tuesday will be the rain and showers intensity kind of pulsating here and there. we get a little break here tuesday night early wednesday before another little dose to kind of finish

both to highlight how many folks are in this category, but also to start talking about homelessness prevention. >> their recently published report identified structural inequities that keep about 1 million people in the bay area impoverished revealing a misconception that most are out of work when in fact, nearly half are working adults, but they are in poverty, wages making an average of $18,000 per year more than 70% of their income goes to rent leaving an average of $360 to pay for all other needs every month. these are people who work essential jobs like child care, health care and custodial work that everyone relies on so moving away in search of cheaper. rent are ending up on the street would have a ripple effect. the study revealed most extremely low income households are made up of single parents seniors or the disabled who rely on a couple $100 through social security every month. they're also more likely to be people of color. more than a quarter in the

speaking of cold temperatures up in the mountains. we're looking at 30's here, dropping down to 26 or so on tuesday. that's the back side of the front when it's all said and done, so pretty much it's going to be moisture starved by tuesday. but that idea here is this with a winter storm warning might pick up as much as 6 feet of snow in the higher elevations, but down about 3,000 feet. they're looking at a several feet of snow and snow may reach down to 2000 or below not calculated that for the bay area. there's an outside chance when this is all done, you might see on tuesday night. a couple of flakes up in the east bay hills potentially going on. but that is just really pushing in on that. it's going to mount hamilton mount diablo. that's where we're going to able to see those rain or the snow covered mountains after this program is all said and done. i for this all the way until about midnight for tonight. so it's very involved in the north bay dropping south across the breath of the mid bay as a greets us tomorrow morning with an afternoon focus peninsula, east bay and out of the south bay with a

absolutely gorgeous outside picture. perfect for this morning. however, the bay area is getting ready for another atmospheric river as a deadly tornadoes just had a lot of other states aoross the country as well. there's a lot of weather to talk about this morning. but let's start you off with what we can expect today. very, very cold out there day even though it looks pretty beautiful. >> yeah. we're starting things off in the 30's. there was a freeze warning up in the north bay earlier this morning. the nuts all since now expired. and we won't have that issue tomorrow. morning because of the rain been playing out, although be cool, but it won't be quite that cold. in fact, it's going to start off in the mild side and then the really cold air is not going to filter in through once we get some lighter moisture towards the very end east bay shoreline little bit of interference. the bottom of your screen there in off towards the distance. the nice blue skies and blue bay. hey, we have improvements here lower 40's taking hold in the east bay here. also for napa and also the lay 37 chilly degrees still in santa rosa 43 in san jose. some improvement

>> good morning. all. yeah. so right now we're seeing some of the coldest temperatures of the season. but tomorrow several parts of the bay area are expected to see several inches of rain. so grab those raincoats and grab those rain boots pg and e says for customers to prepare for potential power outages. they have crews on standby if needed. but people should make sure to have some water, food and flashlights with extra batteries. the national weather service is also advising homeowners to clean their gutters and clear storm drains cities like santa rose are offering sandbags to prevent homes from flooding at a local fire department there says that they are prepared to see heavy downpours. >> the concern is whether or it stalls out and we end up with more rain than anticipated. but at this point, right now we're looking at least upwards of 6 in areas like santa rosa and north that.

taking a live look at a downtown san francisco. it is beautiful out there. it's a little chilly, though. don't let the sun deceive. you will need a jacket today and we're going to get a lot of rain coming up tonight and into the week. starts off well, and then it will be continuing down the early part of the week. >> we're going to be little break and there isn't a little dose as well. so this whole week ahead for pretty much unsettled and we will see temperatures kind of cool during the latter portion of that, that will bring those snow levels down. there's the potential outlining chance you might see a couple flakes up in the east bay hills tuesday night. that would be a very end of week apple, the soft, speaking of which got our cameras situated here. uc berkeley. as we take a look. and the east bay shoreline and the blue skies, blue bay off to the background up in the north. that's what that low is churning about. that's the really colder air. but this is subtropical moisture being fed up towards the north. that's going to provide all the moisture we need for this storm system, calm conditions

moderate atmospheric river to bring heavy rain and gusty winds and the concern is whether or it stalls out and we end up with more rain than anticipated. >> but at this point, right now we're looking at least upwards of 6 in areas like santa rosa on the north. but the heaviest rain is expected sunday afternoon and last into monday morning. paul lowenthal, the assistant fire marshal, the santa rosa fire department is urging residents to be prepared similar to during fire season or asking residents to clear their for amber cast. we're asking residents to clear gutters not only on the roof but in their yards to make sure the water goes really wanted to go. it doesn't lead to any backups or or damage cities like santa rosa and other communities have sandbags stations available pg and e is asking customers to brace for possible power outages. make sure to have a flashlight with fresh batteries, food and water. >> pg says there will be extra crews on standby if needed reporting in san francisco, gayle ong kron 4 news. >> recently. there's been a

that way, be prepared to deal with some snow, get those chains on your car after surviving a devastating fire. the giant forest at sequoia national park, meanwhile, is reopening to the public today. visitors. we'll only be able to see the trees 4 days a week, though, from 8 in the morning until sunset. and it's important to note the park itself will only be open for 7 days between christmas and new year's day park officials say it's going to be all depending upon the weather. so you need to check ahead. dave spahr joining me now. we've got a little bit more detail on our forecast here at home. nice blue skies. but we've got rain on the way and it's just like that snow that's going to be up in the sierras. is it the same system dave, it's all the well, the moisture flow pattern kind hanging out there for the early part of the week. and then there's another go succumbs. the second part of the week. >> yes, more mountain snow is expected for tahoe. in fact, they even have a winter storm warning that's in place. >> what's interesting about this is the lowest snow levels are expected to happen towards the end of the system and we kind of run out of moisture as

it gets low, but snow may fall as low as about 2000 feet in elevation when this thing is starting to wind up. so we translate that to the bay area. and it's a stretch. but there's that possibility we get to tuesday. you might have some flakes thrown in there in the east bay hills potentially is this thing starts to wind down. of course, the ground is way too warm, though. so we're probably only see anything really form mount diablo and also mount hamilton and our local area. but definitely snow on the way for those folks for the early part of the week. this tempted kicks in 4 o'clock. we'll be with us until tuesday at 04:00am winter storm warning. they're expecting several feet of snow with all of this in the higher elevations might pick up as much 6 feet of snow through all of this, too. so a nice start east bay shore line. you see all lit up nice, blue skies, blue bay temperature department were in the 40's around the perimeter of the base. still some chilly 30's inland both in the north bay tri valley still holding on to about 37 even though we're starting things off. sunny. so
