around the delta, particularly and that will cause folks around the delta and contra costa county. there. that little area, those numbers for highs today will kind of trail all day because of the morning fog. a little bit current check. we have your concord, 43, antioch of 41. 36, santa rosa. little better job up here in the north bay. not quite as cold. today. we're in the 40's, at least this morning. a little chilly down there in the south bay, though, 39 san jose fremont checking in at 39 to 47 for san francisco. quick check of the winds will see all day today, a little bit of an offshore breeze working here in the north bay. but you can see kind of hodgepodge the direction here. but they are single digits for the most part across the geography. as far as that fog is concerned. just want to point that out real quick that will mix out. but that will again those temperatures as you'll see in the 4 zone later on being a little stubborn in terms of rising compared to along the east bay shoreline. breaking it down for you today will keep some scattered clouds and there temperatures in the 40's in the morning hours getting into the 50's by the afternoon looking into next week here,

it looks like there's the possibility of maybe some sprinkles working here, but not a whole lot. we'll have more on that forecast a bit. noel. thanks, dave. >> governor gavin newsom has laid out a new plan to battle the latest covid-19 surge, including bringing back covid sick time for some workers. the items are part of the governor's budget for the year. the governor is expected to present a proposed 2.7 emergency response package tomorrow. kron four's gayle ong breaks down the details. >> on saturday, governor gavin newsom's administration unveiled a proposed 2.7 billion dollars covid-19 emergency response package. overall. the package includes 1.2 billion dollars to bolster testing by expanding hours and capacity at testing sites throughout the state. 583 million to accelerate vaccination and booster efforts combat misinformation. 614 million to support frontline workers. >> 200 million to support state response operations and

110 million to support vulnerable populations. the goversor's proposed budget also calls for new legislation to put supplemental paid sick leave policies in place to protect the state's health care workers. this amid the surge driven by the omicron variant last year, there was an emergency supplemental paid sick leave policy that expired last fall. it provided additional 80 hours of paid sick leave state administration officials say additional contract and health care workers from out of state will be deployed to help hospitals stretched thin. governor newsom will present his proposed state budget on monday. gayle ong kron. 4 news. now the rise of covid-19 cases in the bay area does continue to impact our schools. some are moving forward with virtual learning while others are sticking with in-person learning. now, there is a petition out in dublin to get the school district there to go remote. >> or delay the return to school kron four's camila barco has more from san francisco this morning. camila. >> yes, in all, more than 1800

people have signed this petition asking unified school district to go virtual or delay its opening students returned from winter break. take a look at your screen the organizers state that students shouldn't go back to school right now because of the rise in covid cases. many parents in the comments are also concerned that their child is going to contract the virus as the returning from winter break. if they are able to go to school tomorrow, students in the unified school district are expected to goino back to the classroom tomorrow morning. and the school district passed out dozens of at-home covid test to families of students and they're supposed to test themselves some time today or tomorrow morning before going to school. and the idea is to have it's to avoid having a student who is positive return to campus and prevent a covid-19 outbreak. however, the school district has said nothing about delaying its opening or going virtual after a rise in covid cases across

the state cross for has reporting school districts like mookie and hayward are going virtual or have been placed on a district-wide quarantine. teachers in oakland and san francisco had massive city council last week to protest covid safety measures at this time. of those districts have decided to move to remote learning. now no law. there's been no mention from dublin unified school district on canceling classes are going virtual post winter break. students are expected to return to classroom tomorrow. however, the question is, we'll school leaders listen to parents and this petition, of course, we'll keep you updated online and on air. if we find out more now back to, you know. all right. thank you, camila for that. meanwhile, health and education leaders in santa clara county say right now in person learning is still the best way. >> to go for them. kron forcefully chagall learned more about the county's decision to keep kids in the classroom.

>> while the omicron variant of covid-19 spreads through south bay communities, santa clara county, public health director doctor sara cody says it is milder than previous variants. a factor in why she believes students should continue attending class in person. we've learned that in person, education is what they and remote learning doesn't support their mental health. emotional health. >> i'm an academic well-being nearly the way the in-person learning does. doctor cody stands in solidarity with doctor mary ann dewan. we have is the county superintendent of schools at the santa clara county office of education and join cody for a joint media statement released friday. the ability for school district to offer remote or virtual learning ended on june 30th 2021. still the numbers are concerning. data posted online by the public health department shows the 7 day average of cases has increased

>> welcome back to start 7.15 here on this sunday morning in california received more rain in the last 3 months of 2021 than it did in the entire previous year. in fact, drought monitor say the state got nearly 34 trillion gallons of water since october. 1st, leaving behind a generous snow pack up in the mountains. but officials say california still remains in some level of drought and much of the golden state remains in the severe or extreme category. that's why residents are forbidden. water, wasting practices like hosing down sidewalks and driveways. still, dave, i was really hoping that especially over the last couple of weeks where we seem to just sit in hurricane and and gloom, really, i was really hoping

that that would help talked with just a little bit about where where we really are here in the bay area in terms of i look at the numbers lately here, but a lot of the rain that we've had from before that came from the subtropical jet see get a lot of quantitative rain. problem is you get a little >> runoff from all of that. so the ideal situations you want a good snow pack. that's the name of the game to get that built up there. and it also doesn't cause much the way of flooding issues, certainly for the urbanized areas and where we are and so for. so. >> we like to get those storms of the gulf of alaska, which you saw a little bit on the tape. there. and that's where we tend to get our winter systems. now, what you will be seeing in the week ahead is very reminiscent of these dry years that we've had from before. but we've had a good start to the season so we can handle week or so like this. that's fine. just as long as a little bit more upstream. hopefully later on quick shot of what we've got going on here. here's the east bay shoreline. there. there you have some scattered of fog off towards the distance here, golden gate bridge. we ceased kind of similar performance there as well. a little bit of a stiff breeze here, and it

will be offshore a little bit later on. you know, sometimes that's a problem. we talk about those offshore winds. but after all the rain we've had, that's not going to be an issue. we're still sitting a kind of high pressure. alternately this cloud cover will be a player in tomorrow's forecast. not rain producing, but it certainly will get into our forecast temperature check. 36 santa rosa 40's pretty much over most of the board here, although 36 for livermore, 39, san jose and also for fremont for the fog cast. yeah, that's going to mix out around the delta. but as a result that's going to cost our temperatures off towards that region which will see in the 4 zone forecast later, futurecast for let's take care of that fog today. there we go. some leftover fog clouds around the bay until around noon. then overnight we get some scattered clouds, try to work in here as we turn the data mmnday, but looks like on balance tomorrow. pretty turns to be a mostly sunny afternoon. and then tuesday, we mentioned maybe a couple of sprinkles. well, that will be at the coast. if we get that. it's really, really weak. now, back to the day now, here's

the future. cast winds going on this morning. you see them pick up to the afternoon off shore. they are. it's okay. we have a wet ground so we can handle all of that. we're going to do too much. but it is going to come a windy feel to it a little bit there in spots. but lots of sunshine. so that will feel good. so the breakdown free is morning fog scattered clouds breezy in the north bay, seasonal temperatures with all of that and so forth this week, variable clouds cold nights days will be into the 50's sprinkle thursday. yeah, it's been reduced now to just a sprinkle. it's kind of what i'm talking about in terms of the systems are getting the tail end of it is the energy goes all towards the northwest. meanwhile, for the weekend next week and that is variable clouds, temperatures hanging near 60 or at least in the upper 50's for today. again, we've got upper 50's 63. meanwhile for san jose across the water region, 60 or so for hayward. most readings, however, repeat into the 50's, still keeping a couple little scattered clouds and there. but a lot of sunshine for you as well. coming up, we'll take a look at that longer range forecast for you and take a

look at the 4 zone to know. thanks, dave. >> the coast guard has announced new safety rules in response to the deadly 2019 conception boat fire. those rules include new fire prevention measures and better as scape routes for boats with overnight passengers. devices will also be installed to ensure the boats night watchman is awake and doing their rounds. the new rules come nearly 3 years after the conception, a scuba diving boat caught fire off the coast of santa barbara killed. 34 people and investigation into the disaster blamed the boat's owner for a lack of oversight. he has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of seaman's manslaughter and is out on bond awaiting trial. take a look at this from the citizen app. san francisco fire department says it was a large tent fire on 16th and shot well streets yesterday. they say the side of a house next to the tent caught on fire as well. you can see that charred

a wall there. the fire department says no one was hurt or displaced, but the fire is under investigation. the placer county sheriff's office says the body of missing skier rory angelo de was found yesterday morning. they say his body was found roughly a half-mile from a neighborhood schaefer mill creek. angelo de was reported missing on christmas day at northstar ski resort. authorities say his ski pass was last used that morning on a lift at north star. investigators say there was no sign of suspicious activity. oscar-winning lyricist marilyn bergman has died at the age of 93 representative says she died at home in los angeles yesterday of respiratory failure, not related to covid-19. bergman was married to alan bergman. they both at a very long and successful career writing songs for films, television shows and broadway. they weren't

>> welcome back. 7.31. here on this sunday morning. we've got the sun shining yet again this morning, yesterday, around this time we were dealing with some fog. is that the same today or are we pretty clear yet? there's little bit of fog still deal with the particular on the delta, a touch there. and that's actually going to slow the temperatures climbing and that little pocket of the bay. so, you know, around the delta today, highs are probably only going to be the mid-fifties to even lower 50's in spots compared to. >> other areas of the bay now generally speaking inland will look for temperatures to reach in the middle to maybe upper 50's. lots of sunshine. but again, once that fog about the

mix out, that costs a little bit of energy in our days are kind of short. now, this time of year, there's a look at the orange hue off towards the distance. the watercolors time of the day where the fog is starting to mix out a little bit here. it's going to do that in the next few hours. but that does again cost energy upstream. there's some scattered clouds for us. not so much. in today's forecast. we get to late tonight overnight and maybe early tomorrow morning. we were hoping maybe this might be a little bit of a rain producer. now it looks like a strikeout, maybe a little sprinkles along the coast as a possibility, but that's about it. 36 santa rosa, that's the cold spot up around where the fog as we get the lower 40's, you can see antioch also conquered. 36 chilly degrees for livermore. this morning, though, one, the east bay shoreline temper it because it's near water like that climate control. 47 san francisco, but a chilly 39 to san jose also told a little bit that the air is kind of drying out just a touch. one quick note about the winds. they will become more offshore to be up here in the north bay later this afternoon. a little bit of a spring we expect in

terms of those winds will be little breezy up in the north bay for this afternoon. so for today, look for those temperatures in the mid to upper 50's a 63 san jose, which is a good klein compared to the chilly temperatures we're looking at this morning in a bit. we'll take a look at the weeklong forecast. also your 4 zone and extended know. >> thanks, dave. the covid surge does continue to impact medical services. but this time officials say they're being overwhelmed with non-emergency calls. the san francisco fire department says dispatchers are seeing an increase in the number of calls with people reporting minor symptoms. others say there looking for a covid-19 test kron four's. amanda hari has that story. >> please help us keep endurance is available for medical emergencies. health officials are warning people not to overwhelm the system. they say they've seen a surge in 911. calls and er visits for covid tests and minor cold flu rr covid symptoms. we've been. >> having about over 400 m s

calls a day in the city for the past several days. typically that number hovers around 300 or 330, that's about a 20 to 25% increase in calls. doctor susan ehrlich chief executive officer at zuckerberg, general hospital. >> says as the only level one trauma center in the city, there are always extremely busy, but they've never seen anything like this. people are coming to emergency departments seeking testing. >> because i think the demand is high in some cave in some circumstances, the supply is both ems and zuckerberg general hospital are seeing about 10% of their staff out with covid or quarantining because of a close encounter. they also have other people out on vacation personal time or other illnesses. she jeanine nicholson with the san francisco fire department says

they're struggling to keep up with the extra demand over one-third of our staff today is on mandatory overtime. health officials want to remind people that most covid cases are mild and can be safely treated at home. they want to relieve some of the strain on the system so they're able to better assist those who are in dire need of medical assistance. we really want to get to our most critically ill or injured patients. >> and we need the public's health help. we need the public's help in doing in doing so. health officials say this is not a san francisco specific problem. they say emergency medical systems across the state and country are seeing a similar surge in call volume for the same non emergent requests. amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> that our students are safe and we need better better testing for all students in the u.s. the bill that the district is not acting with enough urgency about the crisis that we're in.

>> the oakland unified school district and the rest of the bay area are dealing with a rough start to the new year as covid-related sickouts and closures continue. reports of 6 students and school staff are growing. and so our frustrations among school administrators, teachers and parents, the list of schools closing campuses is growing by the day. a number of colleges and universities have turned to online classes that include san francisco state university uc berkeley, uc santa cruz, cal state, east bay and santa clara university. meanwhile, west contra costa unified hayward unified and milpitas unified school districts have all reported cases and are switching to remote learning oakland unified school district and san francisco unified have been dealing with cases as well as teacher sickouts in protest of covid precautions. but both of those san francisco and oakland, they will remain in person. coming up next in sports, it's finally official after 2 seasons klay thompson.

>> welcome back 7.44. here on this sunday morning hoping that to really catch a little bit more sun again today after we've been deprived of the several weeks, dame's far as got your full weather forecast for you. a good morning. well, good morning, everybody. not starting off to a bad start here. here's half moon bay for you're already getting some sunshine working here. so the coast is not too much of an issue with the fog going on. it's really more interior areas that are dealing with a little bit the way some of that fog. >> temperature check for you. still the 40's off to the east bay livermore. chilly spot, though. 36. 38 going on here for fremont. also, 39 san jose

going to pop nicely this afternoon, though, chilly 36 up there. the santa rosa for the next couple of days. ahead up the tahoe, a gradual mild ing trend to getting almost warm 50 by wednesday. looks like with some scattered clouds. did note some sprinkles possible along our coast on tuesday. maybe you can see that doesn't penetrate free far inland and they probably won't get much out of thursday either, although maybe as a possibility getting into the weekend, they might get some snow a little bit to kind of add what they have. all right. future cast for we mix out fog. and then as we get into tonight, late tonight after midnight, that would be the development of some scattered clouds, maybe to greet you tomorrow, but not really much the way of any rain at all that actually clears out for the afternoon and pretty quiet getting into tuesday. the hope of getting some showers has kind of evaporated right before our eyes. the longer perspective. now that was something upstream on thursday. we're looking out for there's that first system. notice how these are all coming in from the southwest. moving up to the northeast. and yes, by passing us entirely with all the energy up in the northwest,

that's very reminiscent for the last few years that pushed us into the drought. so that is problematic there. but it looks fairly dry for this week ahead. not too bad into next weekend, though, should fare a decent amount of sunshine coming out. we're keeping it somewhat variable clouds on the on extended forecast. 4 zone forecast today. 57 san francisco will do the middle to upper 50's along the coast here. half moon bay and even popping about 60 upper 50's along the bay side peninsula. 60 going on for foster city. 62 palo alto and in the south bay lower 60's at that mid 60. 64 for morgan hill. 63 cupertino, lower 60's along the east bay shoreline, mid 50's for tri valley. 56 for walnut creek. 55 for richmond. 52 of allay 53 fairfield. 55 for napa and santa rosa doing that at about 60 with the air. start to dry out a little bit to those lows are going to be with us and they're quite chilly. no highs near about 60 or so tuesday. looks to be good deal. son here still holding out for a chance of rain on thursday. now. but

here those lows i mentioned here in the 30's will dabble in here near about 40 inland with 40's covering us along the coast. >> well, for your help this morning. last week we went over strategy is to keep our new year's resolutions. a nationwide poll of over 1000 adults last month. 26 1% said they wanted to improve their health in the year 2022. typically, of course, that means dieting and exercising for good heart health. but our health expert karen owoc says we also need to focus on our gums. if we want to improve our over all health care and i would never have thought of guns as being something so important when it comes to our overall health. right. a lot of people don't do when they say they want to improve their health. >> they never think about the guns and it's really, really important. and doctors researchers have now a scene. they definitely see the link between gum disease and other

diseases, particularly heart disease. okay. talk to me a little bit about gum disease you know what? exactly it is and why it's so that for us. well, the number one bacteria bacteria that's growing at the the tooth root. and the problem with bacteria's that it can couple things is that it could disrupt and irritate the lining in within the arteries. it can also affect the platelets, the platelets and the the cells that involve clotting. but the all the other problem with bacteria is that it can travel from your mouth to other areas of your body, particularly the lungs, and it can cause pneumonia. oh, yes, you get pneumonia. that's also going to make your heart work harder because the trying to get oxygen and blood flow to air. it hated inflamed lungs is difficult. and the other problem is that. here we are in a covid year era. you know, we have pneumonia is one

of the side effects. it's really important to not only mask-up but take care of those teeth in the mouth underneath the mask. brushing your teeth twice a day floss saying that sort watching is huge for our gums. >> right. right the inflammation. a chronic inflammation is also problematic. and that's a that's a problem with the gum disease. gum disease causes inflammation. and when you have chronic inflammation, then it's also linked to chronic diseases. so one of the diseases that it's correlated with is card. itis and is inflammation of the heart muscle. and when that happens, you can have rapid heart failure. sudden cardiac arrest. so the inflammation is very stroke as well becomes arrest. yes. so we have heart

disease, stroke, heart attack. >> all of those are consequence of information, heart disease, the win when you have gum disease, it spreads inflammation throughout your body. and when it's inside the lining of your arteries, it can rough in that inner lining that supposed to be nice and smooth and when it gets resting like that, plaque will tend to stick to it. that's what's causing the art coronary artery disease. and then when you're inflamed it off of one of the other things that happens is that it can cause that plaque to crack rupture and it could travel and dislodge a someplace else and it could cause a clot. so therefore you have a stroke or a heart attack. he also type 2 diabetes here. yeah, there's definitely tough people that have diabetes tend to have a lot of information and they have a tendency to infections, therefore, gun infections is is not a surprise. they

especially have to be very diligent about taking care of there, their teeth and their you you also rheumatoid arthritis. and then another of war that never actually heard of cerebral vascular disease. >> vascular disease is a disease is within the the brain. the vessels of the brain. so it's affecting. >> blood flow that affecting how well blood and oxygen gets to the nerves. so one of the contributors main contributors of of dementia is this to rebuild vascular disease. so another really important reason to take care of your talk to me just a little bit about symptoms of people are thinking, ok, how do i make sure i don't have gum disease. what are some things we need to be looking out for? >> red, swollen gums, bleeding gums. if you've ever tried to

well, if you don't less to the gun attend the bleed, also, you have painpwith went to loose teeth. your gun start to recede to your teeth, start to sink in. any any kind of sensitivity can be a sign of of the gum disease, periodontal disease. i think this is a good time to remind folks that if you put off going to the dentist during covid-19, you should probably get on a phone. call your dentist right now and make that appointment because that's who's going to really help you. if you do have any of the symptoms. >> absolutely. and you know when we think about our health, we're thinking diet exercise, stress management, but we need to tack on good oral health care. on top of that because that that can affect, as we just described, that can affect a lot your overall health.

hodgepodge or variable for now. pretty much single digits. but we expect a breeze later on up in the north bay and that will be offshore this time of year. we sometimes go nervous, we say offshore, but of course, has been wet enough that won't pose a problem back to the fog mixing out in the late morning hours. so if you are having some fog around your neighborhood that should make south, but that does cost a little bit in terms of energy. so that will keep the temperatures down a bit. as far as what we expect today on balance. a lot of 50's, although i think in the south bay in some portions of the east bay, we'll start to see those numbers approaching about 60 some scattered clouds to make note of that. it looks like the trend is drier going forward. that was some hope for a couple opportunities for rain showers that's looking less and less will get into some of that coming up in a bit. noel, thanks, dave. >> gavin newsom has laid out a new plan to battle the latest covid-19 surge, including bringing back covid sick time for some workers. the adams a part of the governor's budget for the year. the governor is expected to present a proposed 2.7 billion dollar covid-19 emergency response package

tomorrow. kron four's gayle ong breaks down the details. >> on saturday, governor gavin newsom's administration unveiled a proposed 2.7 billion dollars covid-19 emergency response package. overall. the package includes 1.2 billion dollars to bolster testing by expanding hours and capacity at testing sites throughout the state. 583 million to accelerate vaccination and booster efforts combat misinformation. 614 million to support frontline workers. >> 200 million to support state response operations and 110 million to support vulnerable populations. the governor's proposed budget also calls for new legislation to put supplemental paid sick leave policies in place to protect the state's health care workers. this amid the surge driven by the omicron variant last year, there was an emergency supplemental paid sick leave policy that expired last fall. it provided additional 80 hours of paid sick leave state administration officials say additional contract and health care workers from out of state will be deployed to help

hospitals stretched thin. governor newsom will present his proposed state budget on monday. gayle ong kron. 4 news. the rise of covid-19 cases in the bay area does continue to impact schools. some are moving forward with virtual learning while others are sticking with in-person instruction. >> there is a petition now out in dublin to get the school district there to go remote or even delay the return to school kron four's camila barco has more from san francisco this morning. camila. >> 1800 people have signed this petition. and as you said, it's asking for the dublin unified school district to either go virtual or delay its opening as students returned from winter break. take a look at your screen. this is the petition, the organizer or the creator of this petition states that students shouldn't go back to school right now because of the rising covid cases. many parents of the comments are also concerned that their child is going to contract the virus. if they do go back to

campus as they return from winter break that students in the dublin unified school district are expected to go back to the classroom tomorrow. the school district passed out dozens of at-home covid test kits to families of students and they are supposed to test themselves some time today or tomorrow morning before going to school. now the idea is to avoid having a student who is positive return to campus and prevent a covid-19 outbreak. however, the school district has said nothing about delaying its opening or going virtual kron. 4 has reported that school districts like bill peters and hayward are going virtual or have been placed on a district-wide quarantine because of the rising covid cases. teachers in oakland and san francisco had massive sickouts last week to protest covid safety measures. but at this time, those 2, none of those districts have decided to move to remote learning. but there's been no mention

from dublin unified school district on canceling classes are going virtual post winter break. students like i said, are expected to return to the classroom tomorrow. however, the question is, will school leaders listen to parents who are concerned about their students going back to campus or even take a look at this petition. of course, if we hear anything or know any more information, we'll update you on air and online for now. back to you. all right. coming i over the last couple years, they've done hybrid. there's lots of options there. so i guess will have to wait and see what the district says in response to this. we'll check in with you again in the next hour. >> meanwhile, health and education leaders down in santa clara counties say right now in person learning is still the best way for them to go. kron four's phillipe should all learn more about the county's decision to keep those kids in class. >> while the omicron variant of covid-19 spreads through south bay communities, santa clara county, public health director doctor sara cody says

it is milder than previous variants. a factor in why she believes students should continue attending class in person. we've learned that in person, education is what they and remote learning doesn't support their mental health, emotional health academic well-being nearly the way the in-person learning does. doctor cody stands in solidarity with doctor mary ann dewan. do want is the county superintendent of schools at the santa clara county office of education. >> and join cody for a joint media statement released friday. the ability for school district to offer remote or virtual learning ended on june 30th 2021. still the numbers are concerning. data posted online by the public health department shows the 7 day average of cases has increased about 237% since christmas, 630 were reported on december. 25th. >> 2123 were reported friday

and it's time for another check of your weather forecast. dave spahr standing by with a closer look. a date. >> hey, good morning. well, good morning, everybody. and beautiful sunrise occurring right now. not a lot of the way of fog going on at the coast, but it's hovering around the delta a little bit this morning, not too bad of the golden gate, either. again, some of that leftover fog. hugh, along the water's p% edge and you see a little bit offshore wind already in place to. we're going to see a lot of that this afternoon. it's going to favor the north bay, a touch, nothing for wind advisory length that just had a breezy almost like spring kind of feeling day almost. meanwhile, we've been talking about some cloud cover that will develop a little tonight and maybe a touch tomorrow. but earlier we were talking some sprinkles or showers with that. that's been kind of out of the forecast now. so it'll be dry. but some scattered clouds again developing tonight and into tomorrow. 36 santa rosa, a lot of 40's for the east bay and the north bay, but still cold and tri valley. 35 from livermore. san jose is caught up at 40 38. meanwhile, for fremont. again,

some leftover fog here around the delta. there. that's going to cost temperatures for today because of that energy to mix out of the fog that we have futurecast for going on for today. once we take care of that fog again, we're back to mostly sunny skies. again. some scattered clouds. but then tonight, overnight, yeah, here comes look at the way some cloud cover for tomorrow morning. we're watching about sprinkles. maybe that's not really in the forecast any more. and then clearing up by monday afternoon and then looks good into the rest the week. another dose, we want to watch as thursday. maybe we'll get some light sprinkles with that as a possibility go back to future cast winds. here's the pop and winds this afternoon favoring the north bay and they'll be into the teens. it looks like maybe into the 20 mile per hour range. so if you're in shaded areas will be chilly. so want to plan accordingly. for all of that, too. a look ahead. we talking about morning fog, scattered clouds breezy in the north bay, seasonal temperatures now this week, variable clouds, cold nights going on here will still dip down and then 4 days in the 50's with a sprinkle thursday, the cynics place to put our

cards on then for next weekend, variable clouds with a high approaching about 60. so a little bit of mercury movement here. to middle 50's expected today. 63 meanwhile for san jose checking in there with sunny and mild on the big board here getting to 60 santa rosa. but most readings will be hovering in the mid 50 degree range coming up in a bit. we'll take a look at long-range forecast for looking for that rain on thursday and the extended as well well. thanks, dave. >> the san francisco-marin food bank is in need of more monetary donations so they can keep up with demand. the food bank says the pandemic has put a strain on their resources. joining me now is that marine food bank executive director, tennis crosby, hannah, thank you so much for joining us to let folks know a little bit about your needs at this point. i the pandemic has changed in a lot, the sheer number of people who actually need food and help from you guys has really ground over the last couple years. that's

right. >> every week we serve over 50 5,000 households. that's just about 184,000 people each and every week. that's the kind of impact san francisco-marin food bank makes. and it only happens because of donor support. volunteer, smart. it really takes a community to art and hunger. >> i know at the towards the end of the year and the holidays, there's usually a big uptick in people giving whether that's monetarily or volunteering their time. but now we get into the new part of a new year talk to in just a little about the trend there. do you guys normally see donations drop off at this time of year? >> we normally see volunteer and drop off at this time of year and you're absolutely right, folks really focus on year and giving now is a great time to volunteer and every dollar counts were so grateful folks can participate by going to s f and food bank dot org.

when dollar means 2 meals every hour of volunteering counts. and there's lots of really great socially distanced and safe ways to volunteer. and we sure do appreciate everyone coming out to work and hunger. >> one dollar is 2 meals. i know we've been reporting about surge pricing. are gas prices have gone up. of course, food prices, of course, have gone up as well at the grocery stores. how has that impacted? you guys? >> certainly has impacted us. it's impacting us significantly cost of chicken have almost doubled. we're all seeing at the grocery stores and the food bank is not immune to those 2 price increases. but that's why the donations matter so greatly were really efficient and how we can source we can do it at scale. so it means that we can really get a great return on every dollar. that's a invested to the food bank. but you know what really helps as well as folks coming together and volunteering. we welcome

folks to her groceries to help pat groceries and in january, that's when we tend to see a bit of a dip in volunteering. so we're really encouraging folks to sign up for an hour or 2 because it sure makes a difference. >> i know here at kron 4, we've over the last many, many years. we we go and we give our time they're volunteering, talking about the labor shortage. has that really impacted you guys as well? >> well, we're seeing it. we've been increasing our staff team since the pandemic. so we continue to grow our staff team, but really volunteers are the heart of our operation as well as our staff teen. so we're really encouraging the community to consider joining up for a shift or 2, it sure makes a difference. and i the crumb team can attest. it's also a lot of fun did there's different opportunities. you can deliver groceries. it's just great way to get back to the key to 10 year. and you all have different locations,

covid-19 isn't here to stay. we're going be able to control this. the new normal is not going to be what is now. it's going to be better on friday, the president reassured americans that the administration is working to fight the virus as cases across the country reached record highs. you're seeing a rise in hospitalizations both because they they're coming in with but also because they're screening in for covid. cdc director doctor rochelle walensky says many of the detected cases are mild. >> on monday, the u.s. surpassed 1 million new daily covid-19 cases. we've had 300 million tests per month so far. that's 11 million tests a day. in addition that we were in the process, 4500,000 new test to address the national testing shortage. president biden says the white house is close to launching a website where americans can request a free at-home rapid tests to be shifted them directly. these tests have been purchased yet. >> they have been produced yet. they haven't been distributed yet. and what we

do in the next weeks as we wait for even that to be done. but missouri republican senator roy blunt says americans are in the midst of a public health crisis and can't afford to wait months to receive the tests time the administration recognize vaccines are powerful weapon. >> that we need to continue to focus on them. >> administration officials say the first batch of these tests will go out in january. for now in washington, i'm anna wiernicki. back to you. >> meanwhile, here at home, governor newsom has activated the national guard to help with the covid-19 testing crisis here in california. more than 103,000 new cases were reported friday. yet millions of people in the state say they're struggling to get themselves tested more than 200 members of the national guard will be deployed across 50 testing sites to help boost staffing levels and make the tests more easily accessible. this is video of members assisting a covid testing site at deer valley high school in antioch

>> welcome back. it is 8.43 on this sunday morning. and we are looking for a little sunshine. we don't look very hard. either day. tons of it. yeah. good a good morning, everybody live shot coming in the east bay shoreline. all lit up nicely with blue skies working on that fog. mixing that out as well. temperatures a bit sluggish, though in spots. 35 tri valley. we've got 36 going on for santa rosa 40's over most of the rest, the region, 40 checking in already san jose then very cold this morning. but now start to get into the 40's. now we expect afternoon high temperatures to be into the 60's did talk about a little bit of rain trying to happen this early this week. that's not coming together. and that also is reflected up in tahoe, too. some scattered clouds with all that blah, blah, blah. but temperatures in the 40's getting up to about 50 or so come wednesday and maybe by the end of the week that might be able scrounge up some snow showers. but in the meantime, going to be fairly dry. good news is we're not getting too much warming up there. so we're not getting a lot of melting in the process either.

futurecast for comes together like this. we have some scattered of fog going on in the central valley that mixes out were basically mostly sunny for today. a few scattered clouds. then some cloud cover comes in from the pacific. but it has been any teeth at all. it just park a little bit with all the action going up up and around us. and that will be carrying into tuesday. so kind of taken that out of the forecast. now, thursday is sprinkles. question mark situation a bit. so is going to be fairly dry. it looks like for the week ahead. let's get to that longer range forecast for you here. this is what it looks like getting into the early part of the week. look at the energy just going straight up towards the northwest. this is very reminiscent of what we've seen during those dry years of not much going on. thank goodness. we've had a lot of rain early, but all the energy up to the northwest. this now takes us into the weekend weekend. going to be quiet from our perspective into the early following week. doesn't look like much happening upstream, although again in tahoe, they might pick up a little bit of snow finishing off week. 57 san francisco, upper 50's at the coast coast didn't get really, really cool

last night. so don't have much very far to go for a high today. upper 50's along the bay side here peninsula, 60 foster city, palo alto at 62 heading down south will get morgan hill at 64 santa clara. 63 63 for cupertino. remember some of these readings down? there were pretty chilly this morning. solar. nice improvement, lower 60's east bay shoreline, tri valley, mid 50's where they are still quite cool. 56 for walnut creek. 55 for berkeley. billy joel coming in at 50 to 53 for fairfield. 55 for napa. and we'll do santa rosa at about 60 now in the 7 day forecast again, not much going on early part of the week. chance on thursday question mark and look at a lot of upper 50's for those temperatures. meanwhile, our overnight lows will be into the 30's to a 40 ish and at the coast. let's keep those numbers in the 40's. well, for your help this morning. >> last week we went over strategy is to keep our new year's resolutions. a nationwide poll of over 1000 adults last month. 26 1% said

they wanted to improve their health in the year 2022. typically, of course, that means dieting and exercising for good heart health. but our health expert karen owoc says we also need to focus on our gums. if we want to improve our over all health care and i would never have thought of guns as being something so important when it comes to our overall health. right. a lot of people don't do when they say they want to improve their health. >> they never think about the guns. and it's really, really important. and doctors researchers have now a scene. they definitely see the link between gum disease and other diseases, particularly heart disease. okay. talk to me a little bit about gum disease you know what exactly it is and why it's so that for us. well, the number one bacteria bacteria that's growing at the the tooth root. and the problem with bacteria's that it can couple things is that

it could disrupt and irritate the lining in within the arteries. it can also affect the platelets, the platelets and the the cells that involve clotting. but the all the other problem with bacteria is that it can travel from your mouth to other areas of your body, particularly the lungs, and it can cause pneumonia. oh, yes, you get pneumonia. that's also going to make your heart work harder because the trying to get oxygen and blood flow to air. it hated inflamed lungs is difficult. and the other problem is that. here we are in a covid year era. you know, we have pneumonia is one of the side effects. it's real important to not only mask-up but take care of those teeth in the mouth underneath the mask. brushing your teeth twice a day floss saying that sort watching is huge for our gums. >> right. right the

inflammation. a chronic inflammation is also problematic. and that's a that's a problem with the gum disease. gum disease causes inflammation. and when you have chronic inflammation, then it's also linked to chronic diseases. so one of the diseases that it's correlated with is card. itis and is inflammation of the heart muscle. and when that happens, you can have rapid heart failure. sudden cardiac arrest. so the inflammation is very stroke as well becomes arrest. yes. so we have heart disease, stroke, heart attack. >> all of those are consequence of information, heart disease, the win when you have gum disease, it spreads inflammation throughout your body. and when it's inside the lining of your arteries, it can rough in that inner lining that supposed to be nice and smooth. and when

it's gets resting like that, plaque will tend to stick to it. that's what's causing the art coronary artery disease. and then when you're inflamed one of the other things that happens is that it can cause that plaque to crack rupture and it could travel and dislodged a someplace else and it could cause a clot. so therefore you have a stroke or a heart attack. he also type 2 diabetes here. yeah, there's definitely tough people that have diabetes tend to have a lot of information and they have a tendency to infections, therefore, gun infections is is not a surprise. they especially have to be very diligent about taking care of there, their teeth and their you you also put rheumatoid arthritis. and then another war that never actually heard of cerebral vascular disease. >> vascular disease is a

disease is within the the brain. the vessels of the brain. so it's affecting. >> blood flow that affecting how well blood and oxygen gets to the nerves. so one of the contributors main contributors of of dementia is this to rebuild vascular disease. so another really important reason to take care of your talk to me just a little bit about symptoms of people are thinking, ok, how do i make sure i don't have gum disease. what are some things we need to be looking out for? >> red, swollen gums, bleeding gums. if you've ever tried to well, if you don't less to the gun attend the bleed, also, you have pain with went to loose teeth. your gun start to recede to your teeth, start to sink in. any any kind of sensitivity can be a sign of

of the gum disease, periodontal disease. i think this is a good time to remind folks that if you put off going to the dentist during covid-19, you should probably get on a phone. call your dentist right now and make that appointment because that's who's going to really help you. if you do have any of the symptoms. >> absolutely. and you know what? when we think about our health, we're thinking diet, exercise, stress management, but we need to tack on good oral health care. stay on top of that because that that can affect, as we just described, that can affect a lot your overall health. >> all right. well, floss every day and plus, twice a day or just one today. what's the direct? at least once a day? some people do do it twice a day like after eating. >> so it's a good, good idea to take care of those guns as much as you can make sure that you kind of rinse after you

spots. you will notice 38 in livermore. i suspect the 9 o'clock hours of come in. but it this jumps in the next couple of minutes. we know 39 still fremont. so some cold spots. 45 san jose? nice recovery in the south bay. and 37 up to santa rosa. everybody else is pretty much in the 40's. back to the winds most the readings are single digits. but you notice the colors ation up here, the north bay kind of underscoring that offshore wind we expect through today, which is called a land breeze. that's fine. we can handle it. not a problem, although if you're in the shade or to feel a little chilly leftover fog to mix out around the delta, this will cost temperatures in this region a little bit going forward for today. breaking it down for you, essentially mostly sunny over a good chunk of real estate here. we'll see a lot of 50's some 60's to take you down to the south bay. and you can expect pretty similar performance tomorrow may be starting off with a lot of cloud cover in clearing up in the rest of the day. that mention of rain has been taken out for the most part, maybe by thursday and maybe some sprinkles. perhaps. we'll get more into that coming up in a bit. well, thanks, dave.

>> the rise of covid-19 cases here in the bay area is continuing to impact our schools. some moving forward with virtual learning while others are sticking with in-person instruction. now there's a petition out in dublin to get the school district there to go remote or delay the return to school kron four's camila barco joining us live in san francisco with the details over there in dublin, camila. >> yes, and well. more than 1800 people have signed this petition and i just checked more people keep a signing this throughout the morning. it's asking the dublin unified school like you said, either go virtual or delay its opening as students return for a return from winter. break out. take a look at your screen. this is the petition, the organizer or the creator of this petition states that students shouldn't go back to e of the rising covid cases. a lot of said have concerns about

their child going back to school and contracting the virus. now students in the unified school district are expected to go back to the classroom tomorrow. the school district a few days ago passed out dozens of at-home covid test kits to families of students and they are supposed to test themselves sometime today or tomorrow morning before going to school. they want to avoid having a student who is positive return to campus and prevent a covid-19 outbreak. however, the school district has said nothing about delaying its opening or going virtual kron. 4 has reported that school districts like milpitas and hayward are going virtual or have been placed on it district wide quarantine. now teachers in oakland and san francisco have had massive sickouts last week to protest those covid safety measures. however, at this time, none of those districts have decided to move forward with remote learning. now,

while they spend, like i said, no mention from the dublin unified school district, if they are going to go virtual or delayed or school opening as kids return from winter break. but that may change with this petition going around. we'll just have to see if the school district is either aware of this or if they have any plans to go virtual or delay their opening. of course, we'll keep you updated online and on air for now. back to you. alright, camila, thank you for that live report. meanwhile, health and education leaders down in santa clara county say right now in person learning is still the best way for them to go. kron four's phillipe chagall. >> learn more about the county's decision to keep kids in the classroom. >> while the omicron variant of covid-19 spreads through south bay communities, santa clara county, public health director doctor sara cody says it is milder than previous variants. a factor in why she believes students should continue attending class in

>> welcome back. it's 9.15 and if you feel like we've received a lot of rain over

the last couple of months, you are not wrong. california received more rain in the last 3 months of 2021 than it did in the entire previous year. in fact, drought monitor say the state got nearly 34 trillion gallons of water since october. 1st, leaving behind a generous snow pack up in the mountains. but officials say california still remains and some level of drought. much of the state actually remains in severe or extreme category. that's why residents are still forbidden from water, wasting practices like hosing down their sidewalks and their driveways. that sort of thing. dave spahr is taking a look at just exactly where we're dealing with the drought conditions. dave, it seems like all that rain that we've got hasn't really helped us as much as we thought. >> no, wt still a ways to go and to improve on the situation. they use the start water year in october and go forward for that october october. i was kind of weird, but that's what the water monitoring as we start in october and just about the

entire bay area's and exceptional. but this is a good story, though. hang tight as we go forward to the period. look at that sweet, sweet we go at least in the severe category. but it's an improvement, at least and that's the right going. plus, we also have the nice bank account up there in the mountains. hopefully we'll continue to add to that as the winner continues. onward. the other thing to mention about this is this rain is all come from the mid latitudes. a lot of it was which gave us some local problems and some local flooding and so forth. a lot of runoff with that, although it did help out the reservoirs and so forth, we like to build on those mountains to really build up the snow pack for melting in the spring, which we did too, as well, east bay shoreline. for now all lit up. there's the blue skies off to the distance golden gate bridge. meanwhile, there's the wind checking in and a little bit of a breeze in the north bay particular. you can expect today with essentially mostly sunny skies or the traffic out to the coast. as you can see, some scattered clouds tonight tomorrow morning. not even really much drizzle. just some scattered clouds, then clearing up for the afternoon. it looks like and we've kind of taken any real rain chance

out of the early part of the week. at least 37 santa rosa stole chilly up north. 39 livermore. but everybody else is least got into the 50's. now soar 40's rather. so we're improving on that front around the delta, even where they had some fog this morning. 45 for antioch and 43 for concord speaking, which again got a mix that out. and that does cause some energy in terms of temperature wise, futurecast for again, mostly sunny. once we take care of the fog, some scattered clouds a possibility. always some high cloudiness. we get a bit. then you can see overnight tomorrow morning will greet us with some variable clouds cleared out in the afternoon, though, til looks pretty quiet the next event will call it by thursday. don't expect much from it but winds. let's get back to that for today. that offshore wind start to get into the teens. so nothing is going to be wind advisory like, but if you're out and about maybe an extra jacket and so forth because you'll you'll feel that that chill going on to keep your and shaded areas. so putting it all together for you today. we've got morning fog taken care of that scattered clouds leftover breezy in the north bay seasonal temps. all right.

reported cases are on campuses and they are all switching to remote learning while oakland unified school district and san francisco unified school district are both dealing with cases as well as tick teacher sick out in protest of covid precautions. however, oakland and san francisco unified school district will remain in person instruction for now. the hayward unified school district is going remote for one week. as i just mentioned, the vote for that came down thursday night after 100, 17 staff members tested positive for covid-19 in just a few days. kron four's camila barco has details. >> just this week alone, more than 500 students in the hayward unified school district tested positive for covid. but the bigger problem for the district is its employees who have either been sick in quarantine or have not shown up for work. the district has become so understaffed and it's forced them to move to online the issue was not about

transmission. >> in school, it was about our ability to maintain a safe environment in our schools. and given just the number of staff. but we have out at this time in the past week, 117, hey, we're unified school district employees. >> have tested positive for covid and each day the district has had more than 300 employees. the absent for work. you cannot >> operate school safely with this level of staffing is put in incredible strain. i'm our operations and particularly at our sites and i say administrators and state staff superintendent doctor matt wayne says >> 165 elementary classrooms closed and 615 secondary classrooms have been impacted this week alone. and we want. >> our students to be in school in person, learning. we're reaching a point where operating schools with this few staff is not a safe

proposition. late friday night in a 4 to one vote with the board, members decided students will go remote for one week. >> starting on monday for now. the idea is for them to come back for in-person instruction on january 18. if we implement virtual learning. >> we can't allow those staff who might be in quarantine might be awaiting test results to feel ok and choose to do the virtual learning from home that allows us to really increase the number of staff we have available for instruction for our students. school leaders are making an exception for the families without wifi or child care. >> those students are going to be able to go to some physical campuses to continue their virtual learning. but again, this is only in situations where it's absolutely absolutely necessary for a family. the school district's public information officer says board members are going to regroup this upcoming friday. they'll decide then

whether students should come back to the classroom on january. 18th. >> or extend the remote learning timeline? i'm camila barco reporting for kron. 4 news. >> the covid surge continues to impact medical services as well. this time, though, officials say they're being overwhelmed with non-emergency phone calls. the san francisco fire department says dispatchers are seeing an increase in the number of 911. calls with people reporting minor symptoms. others say they're looking for covid-19 test kron four's. amanda hari has that story. >> please help us keep endurance is available for medical emergencies. health officials are warning people not to overwhelm the system. they say they've seen a surge in 911, calls and er visits for covid tests and minor cold. >> flu or covid symptoms. we've been. >> having about over 400 ems calls a day in the city for the past several days. typically that number hovers around 300 or 330, that's

about a 20 to 25% increase in calls. doctor susan ehrlich chief executive officer at zuckerberg, general hospital. >> says as the only level one trauma center in the city, there are always extremely busy, but they've never seen anything like this. people are coming to emergency departments seeking testing. >> because i think the demand is high in some cave in some circumstances, the supply is both ems and zuckerberg general hospital are seeing about 10% of their staff out with covid or quarantining because of a close encounter. they also have other people out on vacation personal time or other illnesses. she jeanine nicholson with the san francisco fire department says they're struggling to keep up with the extra demand over one-third of our staff today is on mandatory overtime. health officials want to remind people that most covid

cases are mild and can be safely treated at home. they want to relieve some of the strain on the system so they're able to better assist those who are in dire need of medical assistance. we really want to get to our most critically ill or injured patients. >> and we need the public's health help. we need the public's help in doing in doing so. health officials say this is not a san francisco specific problem. they say emergency medical systems across the state and country are seeing a similar surge in call volume for the same non emergent requests. amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> caught on camera. a wild scene at a covid-19 vaccine clinic in orange county video shows a man hitting health care workers. apparently it all started over a mask. disputed hhppened back on december. 30th. you can see the moment the man just kind of goes into a rage after a security guard reportedly asked him to wear a mask. the

alleged attacker identified as 43 year-old thomas apollo reportedly called the staff there murderers before hitting 2 of them. it took officers 15 minutes to finally restrain him nearly 2 years into the pandemic. health care workers now say they're concerned how some now view them as the enemy. >> we're here is not going all our wonderful everybody. we're not so much here now for some people would be any. so i don't understand with this >> apollo was released from custody the very next day. the orange county district attorney's office could file charges against him as early as tomorrow. a number of bay area banks and credit unions say covid cases and staffing shortages have forced them to temporarily close some of their branches in an e-mail to their customers. but telco credit union said it close some branches because of rising covid cases which also led to longer wait times for

callers. other banks like chase bank and wells fargo also reporting some temporary closures of some of their branches here in the city. in less than a week, citigroup is set to say goodbye to unvaccinated workers. the company says workers who have not received the vaccine will be let go on january 14th. back in october, the company said it would require the vaccine as a condition to work on site. the bank is the first major wall street institution to institute the policy. citibank said it at the time it was complying with the biden administration's policy requiring all workers supporting government contracts to be fully vaccinated. governor gavin newsome has issued an executive order that bans price gouging on at-home covid-19. test kits under the order. sellers of the kits are banned from increasing prices on the kits by more than 10%. the order also gives additional tools to the california department of

justice and attorney general's office district attorneys and other local law enforcement to take action against any price gougers. meanwhile, california lawmakers are proposing a sweeping first in the nation. universal health care plan. the program would provide health services to every resident and would be financed by a broad array of new taxes on individuals and businesses. groups representing doctors and insurance companies oppose the idea voters would have to greenlight tax hikes through an election that would amend the california constitution. >> okay. here's a look at what the temperatures are going right now. we're in the 40's and the 50's. a look at your forecast coming up in a bit.

zone forecast is kind of interesting because we didn't really get really cold at the coast today. so we're going to warm up that much. not a lot of movement, but it's the inland areas that may be a little cooler this afternoon. 57 san francisco, upper 50's hanging at the coast. also we see along the bay side peninsula, 60 per foster city. 62, meanwhile, for palo alto and out of the south bay also see some lower 60's at work here. but off the areas in the east bay got the mid 50's and tri valley. some of the fog is kept temperatures down a bit at the mix that out 60 per hayward looks like 55 for berkeley. 56 for walnut creek. 52 for of allay 53 fairfield. 57, meanwhile, for sonoma and 60 to check in for santa rosa in the 70 forecast. this is the other little bit. here is on thursday. little chance of rain showers in the upper 50's. meanwhile, nightly lows in the upper 30's to about 40 40's will do what the coach.

dropped. when i heard that news of his passing. but i know it's also a time of celebration as well because he had a wonderful life and he impacted people. of course, condolences. first of all, need to go out to his wife, joanna, some and their 2 daughters and his first wife, juanita, hearty and their 4 daughters and all the family and friends around the world and fans realize that there was a bright light that shown greatly i'm sydney was among so thank you for this opportunity. of course, that you said your heart dropped when i got the alert. >> that he had passed away. it was one where i really did stop and just kind of satin reflected i then the rest of the day i have the day off, thankfully on friday. so i rewatched the lives of the field. i watched in the heat of the night i've turned on. guess who's coming to dinner?

because, you know, of course that one has, you know, i spent the entire day just re watching his films and and it really is it's just so impactful the way he carried himself on screen. and i think you kind of hit on it as well off screen as well the way he carried himself throughout his day-to-day life. you really did leave an impact on on america on black america specifically. >> doctor king, as a matter of fact, said that he was a great friend of humanity. and what i liked sydney, he up or tear one. call him uncle sidney m. but i've had the opportunity as those films that you just name came across as a young girl. i saw them in the cinema as they came out. very, impressive than it. like he said, i try to make movies about dignity, nobility, the magnificence of human life. and that's exactly what i saw him do. and it was an inspiration for me growing up on military bases and going to

the and being able to see something like the defiant ones included a tony curtis and sydney por there were was a black man and white man. they were chained together and basically the film spoke to the nation and the world. >> that we have to live together as brothers or we perish as fools as doctor king said. so his work was really a i think sometimes you you mention in the heat of the night, sometimes i call it the film. they called me. mister tate is because of the fact of pronouncing that a statement that attitude of calling black men boys and all the kinds of new want says that his films basically fatah gets he was quite the advocate. if he was a renaissance he wrote novels. he was a film director. he he

did it all in 70's. i'm very strong inspiration for those of us coming along. during that time and then for those that have come before, there was denzel washington or michael b jordan or of of chad would bostwick. there city and our hearts go out to him. and i just encouraged by that scripture that says that one god will wipe all the tears from my eyes and there will be no more death and we can to celebrate the lrfe of such wonderful people as and sidney poitier started out as a a migrant worker in the film in louise of the field that you mentioned, his parents for migrant workers. he was sworn in the unit us while they were working the land in florida and eventually he went back

stay there for 16 years and then came back to the u.s. and worked his way to broadway. and there's even a bay area connection with a little rain hands with lorraine hansberry because who can a raisin in the sun. so that mark tim has quite the actor and quite just starting like, yeah, that has made a way for so many careers. so we salute sydney poitier. he really did lay the for for all of those you mentioned, you know, to come after him. >> my brother's a stage actor and i know even for him still, it can be difficult to be cast. and non stereotypical roles for a black actor and i just wonder how much of the way a city carried himself in his daily life off-screen actually helped him, you know, boost him up to then go ahead and be cast in these roles that now we still hold on a

pedestal. >> well, i i think very he a person that was determined to a poll that kind of dignity and the integrity of mankind. >> you came from very humble his parents, migrant workers, and he worked very hard to make sure that he honored and the beginning said he had those those basic that are true, too human life and i'm human. i'm evolving into being the best that we can. i think the measure of a that talks a bit of that is the time memoir speaks to that as well that basically took on roles that i'm honored. the humanity of people. >> he really did. i know that, of course, as i mentioned, you work with san francisco black film festival, the oakland international film festival. so thank you for the work that you do to continue putting,
