>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thanks for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm noelle bellow. it's sunday january 16th. we are halfway through the month. if you can believe it and it's a much less dramatic start to the day today that tsunami advisory we dealt with yesterday morning has lifted. but we want to start off getting a check of the forecast. lots to talk about as we head into this new week. dave spahr, it's going to be sunny >> well, share with some clouds and sun going on here. still good well, good morning, everybody. want to quickly

note a couple splotches that are appearing on radar, a touch. lot of this may not be striking the ground, but it's still kind of out there just a little bit view that we have actually going on from the skies. there's some blue skies out there. we could see from half moon bay. there's a calmer ocean behind us temperature check. pretty mild. some lower 50's line up the east bay shoreline with 40's up to the north bay. 51 san jose. 53 going on san francisco with this pattern in place a little bit. got to keep a little perhaps a passing sprinkle maybe in there. but we'll see a mixed bag of some sun and clouds also depending on where and when you are. so we'll clear out some of the initial of cloud cover we're dealing with and in the east bay, particularly see a lot more sunshine into the afternoon with more considerable clouds for the peninsula. temperature check will still manage into the lower 60. a look at your forecast for the rest of your sunday and on into early next week and a bit. well, thanks, dave. >> some in the bay area are waking up this morning dealing with a little bit of cleanup effort ahead of them following this weekend's tsunami advisory. it was in place for

more than 12 hours along the coast with surges happening in conjunction with high tide. the advisory was eventually lifted last night throughout the day. yesterday, marion county saw 2 to 3 foot surge is a dock was damaged in the greenwood cove area and temper on bolinas lagoon saw surges at about 3 feet high marin county didn't issue an evacuation warnings or orders. but the county sheriff's office says this event serves as a reminder to know your evacuation routes. >> which way would you go if there you know, an actual tsunami that posed a risk that we haven't heard during evacuation orders. just take a look. you know, just like fire season. have your go bag ready. have your important documents in a place where you can grab them and getting your vehicle only that you have to get safe to do so. >> down and santa cruz beaches and boardwalk are back open today like several places. beaches were closed down there for much of the day due to the tsunami advisory. this is a

video from a one of those beaches there. there were no reports of any water rescues yesterday. thankfully down in santa cruz, however, over in the east bay, people living in the berkeley marina were forced to evacuate yesterday morning in total about 115 people have to leave the marina. the evacuation order was limited to the marina boats, docks and shoreline. there were no reports of damage or injuries yesterday. but at least one person living there says she learned a valuable lesson. >> i realize now i have to have a go to bed just because earthquakes are going to come. i don't have a go. 2 bags on the 6 hard drives on my boat. >> over in san mateo county, 2 men who were fishing at san gregorio state beach had to be rescued. deputies responded to the beach after a call reporting 2 men drowning. deputies say one of the men was knee deep in the water trying to pull the other man out. that other man was unconscious inside the water. now, one of the deputies did

got in the did get in the water. >> help pull the man to safety. medics took the second man to the hospital to get him treatment. >> all right. well, today, a big day for football fans here in the bay area. the san francisco forty-niners going to be taking on the dallas cowboys in the first round of playoffs. kron four's camila barco joining us from san francisco with a preview. camila. >> yes, an all-out weigh in on this game. this is time that these teams have met in the post season and this is a rivalry that dates all the way back to the 70's. now 60 the forty-niners will face the 30 dallas cowboys in the nfc wild card round. it's all happening at the atnt stadium in texas and most sports analysts expect this to be a close game. the forty-niners clinched their playoff spot after racing a 17 point deficit to beat the los

angeles rams. now that was a quiet game last sunday. the niners finished the season with a tenant with a 10 7 record and the cowboys ended their season with a 12 5 record. now the niners and cowboys are nearly at full strength. key players including jimmy g are healthy for the big game after injuring his them a few weeks ago. jimmy and the forty-niners know it's going to be a tough game. >> you know, their whole defense, pretty skilled across the board, got some big-time players and a big challenge for us. you can see why why they're in this position. i mean, just offensive defensively. special teams. >> i mean, their numbers are, you know, off the charts on both both phases. they gop very good they got very good schemes, very talented team. it's very obvious why they're in this position. >> the niners, cowboys will be the first teams to each have 5 super bowl championships and face each other in the playoffs. now this is the second time in 3 seasons. the

>> well, many martin luther king junior day celebrations have been canceled for tomorrow due to covid-19 for the second year in a row. the annual celebration ride offered by caltrain will not be running instead, caltrans can operate on a modified schedule. the traditional 54 mile ride up the peninsula pays tribute to the 1965 march. doctor king led from selma to montgomery, alabama. caltrain is hoping to resume the event next year. now the northern california doctor martin luther king junior community foundation also had to postpone this year's outdoor events. so there's parade or march or anything like that. but there are some virtual events going both today and tomorrow. the san francisco public libraries, how holding a virtual event today they are. blaine, a center for the arts will hold a virtual event tomorrow. meanwhile, california is considering a new guaranteed

income program for some cal state students. a $500 monthly stipend would be given to students whose family income is in the bottom 20%. up to 14,000 students could be eligible for this money right now lawmakers are considering 2 different yearlong pilot proposals for this. the first is a 57 million dollar plan involving 3 campuses. the second would cost 87 million dollars and cover 5 campuses. schools under consideration include cal state la san francisco state cal state east bay, san jose state and cal state fresno. dave. >> still quite a bit of cloud cover looking for today. is those temperatures race up to the lower 60's? a look at forecast to come back to kron. 4 morning news continues.

>> welcome back. 7.15, here on this sunday morning. it's time for another check of our weather forecast. david looks like you said we might get a maybe a sprinkle of some sort today. yeah. got to keep the insurance certificate there. just in case here we have low. that's kind of in our backyard a little bit here churning up quite a bit of cloud cover. we have the same scenario stirred a we're going continue. >> through tomorrow, it's going to take it to the early part of next week until we really shake this off. so what is keep that in reserves? they're just a bit wistful better wash my car. but >> the chances are pretty slight you really see much of

anything. here's the golden gate bridge again, cut some of that stratus kind of hang around quite a bit. but this afternoon will be very stark in terms of what the some of the models are telling us in terms of some partial clearing a show you that in just a bit right now. yeah, the radar seeing this all pop up, but it doesn't necessarily mean any that's hitting the ground pretty much a loft and it's going through fairly dry air as well. temperature checks are also mild on that front to 42 santa rosa. 46 in a bottle. 52 san francisco. 51 san jose in mid 40's off to the east bay. this is january. you can sometimes see numbers we know into the 20's in the morning hours. we also have some leftover fog take care of their off towards the delta. as you can see into the sacramento valley. fog is not impact over most of the bay. back to future cast for this is what it looks like getting into later today. notice how a line develops here. looks like the east bay shoreline points west cloud cover remains off ally e east bay should start to open up, including a good chunk up there to the north bay as well. so kind of the tail to different phase

going on here. a different type of microclimate here. more contingent on being west peninsula rather than being east were will be a little clearer. that will be the story for this afternoon. and again, the stray sprinkles a possibility along the east bay shoreline, perhaps very, very slight at that. getting into monday, though, it still looks like it remains taking on more real estate before it finally starts to clear out by tuesday. so considerable clouds today, an isolated sprinkle 60 ish, although looks like some nice clearing in the east bay. there this week, cloudy early in the week. so we don't really start clearing everything out until we get to wednesday. that's how long it takes that to get this low out of here. and then by next weekend, looks like we're mild and sunny with lower 60's kind of almost like a springtime pattern here. still in january. so for today with 59 san francisco, considerable clouds along with a 61, oakland, san jose at 63 again, better clearing off towards the east bay and the bigger chunk of real estate. although temperatures off the east bay not moving too much. even with that better clearing and 60's. also up to the north

bay. we'll get to more into this in your 4 zone forecast and check out the extended to know. >> thanks, dave gettleman police arrested 2 men who they say used a gun to threaten some people in a that happened early saturday morning on east washington street. police say someone reported 2 men were causing problems at a business and then flashed a gun. the men left the scene. officers did find them a short time later, but they couldn't find the gun. however, the men who are from santa rosa are now behind bars at the san sonoma county jail. tmz is reporting that lori loughlin and husband mossimo giannulli have become the victims of a home burglary. it happened back on january 3rd, the thieves reportedly smashed their way in through a bedroom window and stole a million dollars worth of jewelry. tmz is reporting police don't know if loughlin and giannulli were targeted or if the burglary was at random. investigators think the theft may have been pulled off by a crew from

south america. a man held hostage for more than 10 hours saturday at a texas synagogue. he could be heard demanding the release of another man who was convicted of trying to kill u.s. army officers in afghanistan. one hostage was released during the standoff. 3 other hostages got out when an fbi swat team entered the building. the hostage taker was killed. the fbi says there's no indication the man had any connections to broader plans. 3 generations of stockton family are lucky to be alive today after some bystanders saved them from a burning home garage. explains to school district employees just happened to be in the right place at the right time. >> in a tarp covered the stockton hope after fire caused heavy damage and left many with questions about the family who lives here in the board of 1000. >> a little bit. words want to make sure, but he's ok.

>> and on friday the garage caught on fire and then spread into the house. first responders quickly attacked the flames to keep them from spreading any further. luckily, the family inside escaped with no interest. thanks to some quick thinking and courage. everything gets done quickly. >> and you just have to just remove the family from the dangerous situation. the family for and her colleague marcus cravens help the family out of danger. >> the 2 stockton unified school district employees were in the area near harrison elementary when they saw the flames. they couldn't leave the yard because they were locked in. >> because it didn't have the keys to the gate to get out. and so they were frantic, one that, you know, the grandmother trying just, you know, because you know, you're trapped, you're trapped into the flames are going. >> the gate was locked in chain shot with the help from other staff at the nearby school to help yank the gate off its and help the mother a baby and the baby's

we've got a little bit of clouds right now. are we going to see the sun a little more than we did yesterday? well, good morning. well, good morning, everybody. and we see quite a bit of cloud cover, though, off to the distance here in the east bay shoreline. as you can see it, that kind of pen says it will be this afternoon where in the bay you are looking for a little bit better clearing off to the east bay this afternoon. >> the bigger picture still shows this low when it's going to have an impact over the next couple of days until the middle of the week. and we start to see some really earnest clearing across the bay, although temperatures during the whole period are going to be pretty tame for this time of year. this is how it lines up getting into the afternoon. this has a a little bit more of an east bay centric view. that means in the contra costa county are going to see some better clearing. but in the peninsula, you'll see a lot more cloud cover. looks like we go from the 40's to the 50's by 11 by 2 o'clock into the lower 60's. that will be peer pretty uniform all over the whole bay. we'll show you the 4 zone in just a bit. current temperatures in the 40's over most the area. 52 san francisco, 51 for oakland, hayward at 52 with considerable clouds, though,

covering san francisco, oakland, even san jose with better clearing off towards the east bay in the coming up a little bit. we'll have that 4 zone forecast for you and look at the extended. we see some really good clearing by the middle of the week. noel, thanks, dave. >> turning now to our covid-19 coverage. as of now, private health plans are required to cover the over the counter covid-19 tests. in the meantime, some democratic lawmakers are frustrated with the biden administration's pandemic response kron four's washington correspondent reshad hudson has details. >> president biden is taking heat from members of his own padty about the white house's response to the omicron surge. >> we didn't have enough equipment. we didn't have enough. >> testing ohio democratic senator sherrod brown says he ny americans are having trying to find an at-home covid test. my own families had trouble getting enough tests for their their children. 5 senate democrats went as far as to send this letter to the white house. they complain of long

lines at testing sites and want answers about the white house response to omicron. >> and plans for responding to future variants republicans like west virginia. senator shelley moore capito say the white house has simply dropped the ball. the availability of tests critical. the administration should have known this. but brown says there's plenty of blame to go around. got produce smart that's on both political parties that won the last 2 presidents in the last 2 congresses. capita says congress has already provided billions for testing for some reason. >> the administration has pulled back on this. the biden administration rejects it is not doing enough on testing. >> i'm directing my team to procure an additional half of additional 500 million more test to distribute for free. >> and next week, the white house whole launched a website to distribute 500 million free at home covid tests. >> in the east bay, oakland

will soon require people who are 12 years old and up to show proof of covid vaccination to enter indoor businesses. the mandate will take effect on february. 1st, all customers will have to show proof of full vaccination. it's including restaurants, concert venues and gyms. adults will also need to show photo. i d. walgreens and ulta beauty have announced they're cutting back hours due to covid related issues. both stores citing staff shortages and safety concerns. all of old has 1300 stores will open at 10:00am every day except sunday when they'll open at 11 stores will then close at 07:00pm on weekdays 08:00pm on fridays and saturdays and 06:00pm on sundays. walgreens and cvs are making similar cuts to their 9,000 stores as well and has had to close about 100 pharmacies. well, fake testing sites are popping up in cities all across the country. we've

been dealing with them here in the bay area's well with covid tests in such high demand, scammers are taking advantage. so how can you tell the difference between a scam and the real thing brian entin explains. >> you've probably seen covid pop up sites. they look quick and easy but be aware some are sending the wrong test results sending results late or just never sending them at all. i still haven't heard anything. it was very frustrating, but then just really upset. and mike devastated. the center for covid control has pop-up sites from coast to coast and they also have complaints throughout the country to a lot of them. accusations of emailing test results before people even took the test and concerns about identity theft. at the moment. it was it asked for. >> my driver's license number or a lot of quite a bit of personal data i thought was a bit excessive. but i'm in the moment. i was desperate and 6. so i just went along with it. the company is under investigation by the

department of justice in oregon and better business bureaus in multiple cities. i think what's so alarming is this isn't just one or 2 site. i mean, this is a big company with sites all across the united states and its is also very concerning because people. >> our concern right now about their health, they're very concerned about the fact. is it a cold? is it covid? is that in what? what am i feeling right now? the center for covid control didn't respond to our calls. so we showed up to their pembroke pines, florida location. is this the center for covid control? >> this is this. this is it. yes, just this picnic table. >> the location really is just a picnic table in a couple of boxes. the employees here told us they were not allowed to talk to the media and soon after we received a statement from the center for covid control saying they were going to stop testing for the next week because of what they call high patient demand and operational strain. bottom

>> 7.44 here on this sunday morning might want to bring the jacket this morning. a little chilly out there. dave we might see some of the sun later today on tape. >> yeah. looks like in the east bay, particularly good morning. want to jump to stormtracker real quick. there are some showers out to see here. we have the rotation with this low in this general direction here. counter clockwise. and with all that going forward, we may see a little stray sprinkle going on. but beyond that, the cloud cover set up, which will show you is going to be pretty much along the peninsula with better clearing off to the east bay. this we see in the east bay shoreline. there you see in the background there, of course, is the bay temperature check, very mild with lots of 40's going on in london. also up in the north bay, east bay shoreline notice will be popping in the lower 50's already. 51 for san jose and 52 for san francisco next couple of days going up not much action going on out there either with mostly sunny skies, scattered clouds, too. but temperatures for highs in the mid 40's with that,

putting this all into motion, you'll see what we're talkingp about with this low. that's going to be around for a couple of days. it's going to be quite intrusive for skies in terms of keeping some cloud cover here, but not doing much beyond that. as you can see and will wear out by the middle of the week. here's futurecast for there. you see some clearing off to the east bay peninsula. still kind of shrouded in cloud cover here. it really does this for tonight tomorrow. so looks like considerable clouds for your monday. again, until we start to clear things out, looks like by tuesday, more importantly, probably by wednesday. so what goes on into the future? well, we get that clear patch. there goes away the low we clear out going into next weekend, still going to keep some scattered clouds in here. but the deal is most of the juicy traffic that's up towards our north. we're not getting in the beneficial rain with all of this. this is typical with the la nina weather pattern dry from our perspective, it's now starting to live up to that before we were like all the hype. and where is the action? not that we're complaining with rain, but now we're into this dry pattern which looks like it's going to continue

pointed out. that just means with the radar is seen. remember, that doesn't always guarantee it's actually going to strike the ground. >> for today, though, on balance, we're going to be seeing a battle with some cloud cover and the sun winning the hands. it looks like in the east bay. it looks like here's what it looks like in the east bay shoreline off towards the distance. a little bit of haze covered. also with some of that cloud cover 40's cover the east bay. >> east bay shoreline. however, 52 for hayward. 49 oakland, 52, san francisco into motion. it's the familiar pattern which are going to see probably tomorrow, too, with this low kind of in our backyard here. not a lot of moisture associated with it, though. that's the they were not getting any rain for many but real rain. that is this will ultimately drift out. it looks like by midweek and will go back into the sunny mode for the remainder of the week. mild temperatures will be the rule through all of this. however, looking for today to get to the lower 60's. more of that to come for the week ahead. but no rain. it doesn't look like or really much in the way of snow showers even up to tahoe to coming up in a bit. we'll take a look at what it looks like getting into your workweek forecast. noel.

>> big story. we are following this morning. clean up in parts of the bay area following yesterday's tsunami advisory was lifted last night in the north bay. moraine county saw 2 to 3 foot surges and the dock was damaged in the greenwood cove area over in temper on those surges happened in conjunction with high tide bolinas lagoon sauce or just about 3 feet high marin county didn't issue any evacuation warnings or orders. but the county sheriff's office says the event serves as a reminder to know your evacuation routes. >> which way would you go if there you know, an actual tsunami that posed a risk that we haven't during evacuation orders. just take a look. you know, just like fire season. have your go bag ready. have your important documents in a place where you can grab them and getting your vehicle only that you have to get safe to do so. >> meanwhile, down in santa cruz, the beaches and boardwalk will reopen for

today. several places that like several other places, beaches were closed yesterday due to the tsunami advisory. there were no reports of any water rescues down in santa cruz county yesterday. so that's a good thing. i know we had some here and san francisco over in the east bay, people living in the berkeley marina were forced to evacuate because of the tsunami advisory in total about 115 people had to leave the marina. the evacuation order was limited to the marina boats, docks and shoreline. there were no reports of damage or injuries yesterday, but at least one woman living there says she learned a valuable lesson. >> i realize now i have to have a go to bed just because earthquakes are going to come. i don't have a go to bags less. 6 hard drives on my boat. >> and down in san mateo county, 2 men who were fishing at san gregorio state beach had to be rescued from the waters. deputies responded after a call that the 2 that 2 men were drowning. deputies say one of the men was knee deep in the water trying to pull the other who was

unconscious out of the water. one of the deputies eventually got in to help pull the man to safety. medics took the second man to the hospital to get treated. all right. coming up here in california, family says they're lucky to be alive after a good samaritan saved them from a house fire. and after the break, some california college students could soon be getting monthly payments from the state will break it all down for you after the break.

>> welcome back. a 10 on this sunday morning and for your money, netflix is going to be hiking its monthly prices yet again. this will mark the 6th time the streaming company has bumped up its prices since 2014. netflix updated its official price plan chart to reflect the new one dollar increase for the standard plan. and a $2 increase for the premium plan which includes 4 k streaming the monthly price for the standard plan. now $15.50. that's up from the previous $14. the new price for the 4 k premium plan is 20 bucks. that's up from $18 per just $12. we've bumped up there. california is considering a new guaranteed income program for some cal state students. a $500 monthly stipend would be given to students whose family income is in the bottom 20% up to

those clouds again before clearing out for you, folks in the east bay. that's because of the slow in the proximity. you are to avoid this thing. this moves a little bit and in your direction, it's going make a major change. there are some showers occurring aloft and out to sea as well. a lot of this not striking the ground as an addendum. just noting a little sprinkle is a possibility. temperature check were in the 40's over most of the interior. 52 for hayward. 52 also for san francisco. 57 half moon bay. look at that. 48 going on for palo alto and also san jose. very mild start. we are not a whole lot of movement is expected for today. but the way of some fog, though, lingering around the delta, they're coming in from the sacramento valley, handing it over to future cast for this is what i was talking about. clearing out nicely for the east bay but peninsula santa cruz mountains, probably more of a cloudy story and looks are in as well. and then the cloud cover returns as this low reposition itself for monday. looks like quite a bit of cloud cover before we will be clear out in earnest by the middle of the week and that will set the tone for the

remainder of the week. but for today, again, we've got considerable clouds going on. isolated sprinkle does for insurance purposes there. 60 ish. this is sfo looking good there. this week, cloudy early on then clearing by midweek, still keeping in the 60 degree department will change temperature wise, much and the next week it's mild and sunny, lower 60's going on for highs sever next weekend, rather. so it looks like at least saturday looks to be ok, we might see some cloud cover trying to sneak back in here on sunday as well. but the big issue missing out all this is real rain and this is our wet season show. remember every time this happens to to stickley, we're falling behind pretty rapidly because statistically each day. even though doesn't happen this way, so much rain is expected during our wet season like this, even though we had a nice bonanza going on in november-december. 59 expected san francisco. 61 oakland, 63 san jose. the clearing line should be east of that over the east bay hills. however, and your highs today. still modest, though, with all the sunshine. you can see 60 to livermore. 59 antioch, while

used a gun to threaten some folks at a business. it happened early saturday morning on east washington street. police say someone reported 2 men. we're causing problems at a business and then flashed a gun. the man left the scene. officers found a short time later but couldn't find the gun. the men, though, who are from santa rosa are now behind bars at the sonoma county jail. 4 hostages are safe this morning and their captor is dead after an hours long standoff inside a texas synagogue. the capture was a british national during the 10 hour standoff yesterday. he could be heard on a live stream demanding the release of another man who was convicted of trying to kill u.s. army officers and afghanistan. one was released during the standoff. the 3 others were able to get out when an fbi swat team finally entered the building. that's when the captor was killed. the fbi says there's no indication the man had any broader plans. 3 generations of the stockton family are

>> there are certain rules to survive. believe me. i know. this one just feels different. >> back in 1997, a new breed of horror movie was unleashed with the now iconic scream with the ghost faced killer ravaging a small town and its young inhabitants, including nev campbell. courtney and david arquette. now the trio returns with a new naive cast who become the prey for the new but same old killer. the formula for the movie is intentionally similar to most of the others. it's because this version of scream takes the genre and deals with it as part of the storyline explained as if the murders in the town and the suspects are playing it out like a predictable horror movie. it's part of the genius of this movie. it's super software spoofing honoring and furthering the elements of the franchise that allow it to go to predictable places. but at

the same time makes fun of it. all. now there's no shortage of creepy characters, shocks and white knuckling moments that would make the franchise's original director, the late wes craven, proud. and it's great to see the legacy actors back and in pretty substantial roles in the movie. horror films are usually my favorite genre because there's usually not much to the mix of blood and gore. and this has those. but it also has a level of cleverness that's usually missing in these movies. i give it a dean's list b, plus, it's in theaters only because heard a voice. also this week, they're shakespeare's the tragedy of macbeth. you may remember it from an english class from back in the day. the story of greed in last in power and the willingness to do anything to achieve it here. you're basically watching a stage play been film. but from the perspective of a master class in acting from 2 time, oscar winner

about to be a 30 here on this sunday morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. thanks for joining us dave sphar is standing by in the weather center. he's got a look. we had some like semblance of maybe some moisture in the air this morning as hang around as a little bit happening aloft. yeah, good morning. well, good morning, everybody. just making note of it here in stormtracker for most of it is out to sea here. but some of it is happening off in their looks like in the east bay. things will clear out a little better for you. >> then along the peninsula where the clouds are probably reassembled. here's what looks like an half moon bay. pretty nice day. it looks like some people enjoying the beach today and there you have it as a calm and peaceful, see off towards the distance. there's that low kind of a little pesci fly in the ointment kind of situation. here is most of the traffic is around us. and this is cut off from that source of moisture. so doesn't do us much good except delivering some cloud cover here. the breakdown today variable clouds, much better looking in the east bay over the east bay hills, probably better clearing a little bit

more. the way of cloud cover development may be in the peninsula. upper 50's about 60 will go for height. we still have to deal with the slow probably tomorrow and maybe a little bit on tuesday before we kind of clear out the remainder of the week. now, this is the wet season. so every day that we go by dry like this. we fall behind from our bonanza in november-december coming up and it will have the 4 zone forecast in your extended noel. >> thanks, dave. turning now to our covid-19 coverage. private health plans are now required to cover over the counter covid-19 tests and the biden administration does has have plans to start shipping at home tests for free this week. but as reshad hudson reports, some democratic lawmakers say they're frustrated with the president's pandemic response. >> president biden is taking heat from members of his own party about the white house's response to the omicron surge. >> we didn't have enough equipment. we didn't have enough. >> testing ohio democratic senator sherrod brown says he understands concerns many americans are having trying to

find an at-home covid test. my own families had trouble getting enough tests for their their children. 5 senate democrats went as far as to send this letter to the white house. they complain of long lines at testing sites and want answers about the white house response to omicron. >> and plans for responding to future variants republicans like west virginia. senator shelley moore capito say the white house has simply dropped the ball. the availability of tests is critical. the administration should have known this, but brown says there's plenty of blame to go around. got to produce smart that's on both political parties that won the last 2 presidents in the last 2 congresses. capita says congress has already provided billions for testing for some reason. >> the administration has pulled back on this. the biden administration rejects it is not doing enough on testing. >> i'm directing my team to procure an additional half of additional 500 million more test to distribute for free.

>> and next week, the white house whole launch a web site to distribute 500 million free at home covid tests. >> in the east bay, oakland, it will soon require people who are 12 and older to show proof of covid vaccination to enter indoor businesses. the mandate will take effect on february. 1st, you'll start seeing notices on learning customers of the change affects restaurants, concert venues, gyms, museums, people 18 and older should also be prepared to show your id to be cross checked with your vaccination card. pharmacies and beauty supply store. all to have announced they're cutting back hours due to covid related issues. the store citing staff shortages and safety concerns. all of alton has 1300 stores are now going to open at 10:00am. every day except sunday when open at 11:00am stores will close at 07:00pm on weekdays 08:00pm on fridays and saturdays and 06:00pm on

sundays. meanwhile, walgreens and cvs are also making similar cuts to their 9,000 stores. some even close throughout this entire weekend. they had to close about 100 pharmacies in total. fake testing sites are popping up all across the country here in the bay area. we've been dealing with them as well with covid tests in such high demand. scammers are taking advantage. can you tell the difference between a scam and the real thing brian entin explains. >> you've probably seen covid pop up sites. they look quick and easy but be aware some are sending the wrong test results sending results late or just never sending them at all. i still haven't heard anything. it was very frustrating, but then just really upset. and like devastated. the center for covid control has pop-up sites from coast to coast and they also have complaints throughout the country to a lot of them. accusations of emailing test results before people even took the test and concerns about identity theft. at the moment. it was it asked

and we have like the 20's and all that kind of business. sometimes you can get frost to 52 for hayward. 52 also san francisco, but we're just in half moon bay at 57 at this current hour. >> a bit of an offshore wind sometimes helps out of that with that, too forecast, we stay in the 40's for highs and some scattered cloud cover. no precipitation really doesn't look like it's going to happen. maybe toward the end of the week. there might passing snow spurt, but that's really about we're not getting any juicy moisture. what's happened is were cut off in the major traffic of the systems and where most of the moisture is a this is a cut off low in the trade. we call it and it could be around for a couple of days. doesn't have a lot of moisture with it. we've got to keep a mention of a sprinkle in the in the forecast just in case tomorrow. looks like quite a bit of cloud cover than will start clearing out tuesday into the rest of the week will be in the mostly sunny mode. this is what it looks like. a future cast for kind of slicing the they and 2 halves here with the kind of more cloudy off towards the coast. better clearing in the east bay and a good chunk the north bay, too. that returns a

little bit tonight and for your monday, it looks like before we can retire this loaf and the often going to mostly sunny for the remainder of the week. longer-range forecast tells us that there goes the low goodbye and mostly sunny. it looks like into the period again, we're not getting any of these major pieces of moisture to help us out here, which is very reminiscent of what it was like during the drought years like this. again, we had a great bonanza november december, but now we start to trail a little bit 4 zone forecast covering you this sunday where it's 59, san francisco. we'll do around 60 towards the coast. bayside san bruno about 62 burlingame. 61 foster city 62 powell out to about 64 to the south bay about 65 morgan hill. 64 santa clara, east bay shoreline to the south mid 60's tri valley, low 60's. it looks like walnut creek checks in at 62 as well. concord at 61. 61 for berkeley. blaine hold 58 fairfield about 59. 61. for now, looks like and 59 santa

already, which is a shocking to thankfully today, much calmer start to the day. no tsunami advisory it to was lifted last night. much calmer out there. however, dave spahr some spots are seeing a little bit of moisture this morning. a a good well, good morning, everybody on the couple splotches or appearing on radar bit. but here's the shot from half moon bay. we are seeing quite a bit of clearing out because >> we may see this riffle back in again with cloud cover later on this afternoon. it appears like the models are telling us that the peninsula will fill up with cloud cover while we see a much better clearing off towards the east bay, although temperatures pretty uniform today, 56, half moon bay were just showing you there. beautiful shot 40's off to the east bay right now. pretty mild to start to 45 santa rosa. the chilly spot up there. 50, however, for napa putting into motion, you'll see we're talking about a little splotches appear here. probably most of this is about bringing before striking the ground. but the possibility is there to get a little stray shower, maybe or a sprinkle. but again, we'll see some cloud cover redevelop santa

>> which way would you go if there you know, an actual tsunami that posed a risk that we haven't during evacuation orders. just take a look. you know, just like fire season. have your go bag ready. have your important documents in a place where you can grab them and getting your vehicle only that you have to get safe to do so. >> now over in the east bay, people living in the berkeley marina were forced to evacuate due to that tsunami advisory in total. about 100, 15 people had to leave the marina yesterday morning. that order was limited to the marina boats, docks and shoreline. there weren't any reports of damage or injuries, but at least one person living there says she learned a valuable lesson. >> i realize now i have go to bed just because earthquakes are going to come. i don't have a go to bags less. 6 hard drives on my boat. >> meanwhile, down in san mateo county, 2 men who were fishing at san gregorio state beach had to be rescued. deputies responded to the beach after a call that 2 men

were drowning. they say one of the men was knee deep in the water trying to pull the other man who was unconscious out. one of the deputies got into the water and was able to pull the man to safety medics and took that second man to the hospital to get him some treat it. >> now that all is said and done the beaches and boardwalk will reopen down in santa cruz like several places. beaches were closed yesterday due to that tsunami advisory. there were no reports of any water rescues yesterday down in santa cruz. so folks to feel safe, headed back out there today. >> coming up here, a california family says they're lucky to be alive after a good samaritan saved them from a house fire. that story is coming up. plus, some california college students could soon be getting monthly payments from the state. we've got the details on that after the break.

gate bridge again, kind of variable. cloudiness will do it. that's going to be pretty much what you'd expect throughout the day today. a little bit of an offshore wind that's at work. we'll get some birds going by to fluttering by the bay. so this low in our backyards continue to produce the sky conditions. this is why we or in this kind of middle zone between getting some rain from a low that's in our backyard to not getting clear skies. so we're kind of in the middle with all of this. and this little pesky low will be around for another day, 2 days or so before we clear out for the remainder of the week. now the traffic coming in off the pacific is going to be up and around us for the most part. and that's a familiar refrain that we've seen from those drought years. and it looks like that that is back in again. la nina is in control, which tends to me a drier winter for us. 53 for oakland. 54 going on for hayward. 57, half moon bay, aided by a little bit of that offshore wind little cooler run the delta and they did have some morning fog going on there today. 45 up to santa

rosa and 54 novato a decent day. but again, it will vary where you are in the bay around the peninsula. the models are saying quite a bit of cloud cover off to the east bay should open up a little better and a good chunk up there. the north bay, too, tomorrow will probably deal with quite a bit of this as well with the low so close to us until we finally start clearing out tuesday into the middle of the week. so the game plan is this considerable clouds today, an isolated sprinkle just as a mention here, 60 ish for this week, cloudy early in the week and then clearing out by mid week, maybe as early as tuesday and temperatures push a little further. that's what's going to feel more like spring in the next couple of days. then for the weekend, it's mild and sunny, lower 60's expected for highs. some sunday might see the return of some cloud cover, though. so for today, we'll call san francisco turning somewhat mostly cloudy. mild at 59 will do the lower 60's for oakland and san jose across the wider real estate lower 60's off to the east bay and up to the north bay. maybe 64 santa rosa in a bit. of course, we'll have the

4 zone forecast and look at your drive extended. well. thanks, dave. >> paddling police have arrested 2 men who they say used a gun to threaten some people at a business. it happened early saturday morning on east washington street. police say someone reported 2 men causing problems out of business and then flashing a gun. the men left the scene. officers were able to find them a short time later. they say they could not find the gun. and the man you are from santa rosa are now behind bars at the sonoma county jail. >> taking a look in national news now for hostages are safe this morning and their captor is dead after an hours long standoff inside a texas synagogue. the captor was a british national during the 10 hour standoff saturday. you could be heard on a live stream demanding the release of another man who was convicted of trying to kill u.s. army officers in afghanistan. one hostage was released during the standoff. the 3 others inside were able to get out when the fbi swat

team finally entered the building. that's when the captor was killed. the fbi says there is no indication this man had any broader plans. 3 generations of the stockton family are lucky to be alive today after bystanders saved them from a burning home garage while explains 2 school district employees just happened to be in the right place at the right time. >> in a tarp covered the stockton hope after fire caused heavy damage and left many with questions about the family who lives here in the board of 1000. >> a little bit. words want to make sure, but he's ok. >> and on friday the garage caught on fire and then spread into the house. first responders quickly attacked the flames to keep them from spreading any further. luckily, the family inside escaped with no interest. thanks to some quick thinking and courage. everything gets done quickly. >> and you just have to just remove the family from a
