>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good sunday morning to you. thanks for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm noelle bellow. it is sunday january 23rd. we've got a lot to get to this morning. an update on that fire burning down in big sur. but first, let's get a check of our local forecast. dave spahr standing by in the weather center. he's got a little bit more detail. david turned out to be really nice yesterday. >> yeah, good morning. well, good morning, everybody. and now the school around wilde, a ditch. the winds, remain dry and nice temperatures going on this afternoon to just start to get some light here along the east bay shoreline. as you

can see, temperature check, though, little bit on the chilly side. that's what you get when you lose the winds with clear skies and our dry air dropping down to 34 santa rosa. 43 for novato off to the east bay inland. you can see well in the 30's. meanwhile, on the east bay shoreline were lower 40's 40 going on for san jose. contrast to the yesterday. now there's a little bit more of a climb. we have to do temperature wise than those mild temperatures. we started off with just a minor breeze at work. you can see. and that's pretty much what you'd expect this afternoon. the traffic from the pacific all as away from us. nothing to read and throw even high cloudiness our way. so looks pretty good today, 54 by 11 at 2 o'clock. we're talking 61 looks like more of that to come for the week ahead. may be toying with little chance of some sprinkles going on here as we approach into next weekend. maybe noel. >> thanks, dave. firefighters are still fighting the colorado fire along the big sur coast this morning. it broke out friday night and those flames continue to be fanned by high winds

yesterday. however, cal fire says it's now 20% contained. it's sitting at more than 1000 acres. luckily no injuries so far. kron four's. amanda hari has an update on the firefight. >> cal fire tells me there is some good news. they say the winds have died down and that has allowed firefighters to gain the upper hand on this fire. you see here they did outstanding more incredible video shows firefighters working to get a fire along the big sur coast under control. >> it's being called the colorado fire. the fire is burning in steep. rugged terrain is very difficult to it's got redwoods. it's got largi brush. >> and we've also had very poor overnight recoveries. that means that overnight when the vegetation, usually the humidity levels rise, that didn't really happen last night. all areas west of 3800 palo colorado, road to highway one and south. the bixby creek

were evacuated. >> part of highway one south of half moon bay was closed in both directions because of downed power lines and branches. but it's now reopened. we were able to an air attack going. 2 helicopters and 2 tankers. we have 3 strike teams here from units from cal fire all over the region. cal fire public information officer cecile juliette tells me the firefighters will continue to work around the clock. firefighters will be on the ground throughout the the planes will be grounded because it's going to be dark. but firefighters going to continue fight throughout the evening. and then, you know. >> continue on through the morning. she's asking everyone who lives in or near the area to be understanding. >> of the severity of this situation asking for people. >> to be patient and also give first responders a lot of room to work so they can get this fire knocked down and get everybody back home. she tells me 10 or 15 years ago it would be extremely rare have a fire of this magnitude.

>> in january that now we have a fire year and not a fire season, but she says firefighters are prepared for that. >> amanda hari kron, 4 >> as a police are investigating the city's 8th a fatal crash of the year. police say the hit and run happened last night around 7.30, on north jackson avenue. a pedestrian was struck by a car and died sometime later at the hospital. police say he's also the city's 6th pedestrian death of the year. the forty-niners are one more win away from the super bowl. they're headed to the nfc championship for the second time in 3 seasons. the niners gave fans a repeat of that nail-biting wild card game. this want to get down to the wire. the matchup against the packers came down to just one field goal. here's the highlights. the packers took the opening kickoff and aj dillon finished off the play with a 6 yard touchdown. the

forty-niners defense picked up after that. while the offense struggled late in the 2nd quarter, jimmy g looking to george kittle but throws an interception to adrian amos. her one hurt 3 plays later. aaron rodgers threw the football to aaron jones. he then got a 75 yard gain for the packers look like they'll get a field goal right before the half. however, thankfully we got jimmie ward and jimmie ward ended up blocking that field goal attempt. however, the forty-niners were still down 7 to nothing at the half. yeah, there's that block in the 3rd quarter. everyone really excited in the 3rd quarter. deebo samuel and sup taking a big hit. he immediately fell to the ground. he had to leave the game. good news is though he didn't need medical attention. here's that moment. he did. he

was able to return to the game after that one. the niners also got a field goal. they tnded up making it 7 to 3 heading into the 4th quarter score was 10 to 3. it was 4th down for the forty-niners. they turned the ball over to the packers with 6 minutes. 10 seconds left to play. packers forced to punt jordan willis block that telling noah who picked up and returned it for the touchdown. the score was tied 10 to 10. again, i told you it was a nail-biter there for a while. green bay ended up punching again. deebo samuels came back to get a first down that set up robbie gould for a field goal from 45 yards out. everyone was just like waiting in anticipation for this one. that field goal and up being good. niners won. final score was 13 to 10. san francisco is now headed to the nfc championship game against

>> in the north bay, santa rosa, police are asking for your help to locate 2 suspects who they say robbed a cvs pharmacy friday night on mendocino avenue. police say 2 men went behind the counter and demanded cash and some pills. they say one man asked an employee to open the safe and then started beating her when she couldn't do it. the

employee was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. police say the men had already left the scene before they arrived. they were last seen running towards steel lane, a reward of up to $2500 is being offered for any information leading to their arrests. the san francisco fire department. they had an interesting rescue. the rescue, this dog duke after he went over a cliff at fort funston yesterday afternoon. i guess he was just trying to get a little bit closer to the waves. thankfully they say duke is gonna be ok? speaking of waves, surfers and beachgoers should be aware of. some high waves expected today and monday along the coastal areas, national weather service issuing a beach hazard statement for sneaker waves and rip currents from 01:00pm today to 01:00pm tomorrow. the warning is for areas in the north, including point reyes, national seashore. san francisco beaches, monterey bay and down the coast. a big

surge to just be careful. those waves could knock you over on to the rocks into the ocean. just know that that's going to happen again from 1 o'clock this afternoon. until 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. okay. but chillier this morning as we see temperatures in the 30's populate across the board will get back up to those lower 60's this afternoon, sunny skies and get used to that the spring time forecast. >> for the week ahead, the kron 4 morning news continues here.

>> 7.15 here on this sunday morning and pg crews worked all day yesterday to try and get the lights back on to thousands of homes and businesses in the east bay left in the dark from strong winds friday night. now this as some citizen app video of some of the damage in oakland that was left behind during the height of the outages. pg e says more than 30,000 customers were without power. many of those outages were in the east bay, a majority of them. as you can see some trees across those streets. thankfully, the winds did die down yesterday. it's time for another check of our weather forecast. dave sphar standing by with what we can expect today. i hope it's going to be nice out there day. it looks pretty danny. yeah, good morning. well, good morning, off to a little bit of haze to start things off. here is the east bay shoreline, speaking of which often the distance,

harder to see that golden gate bridge checking the flag is a little active this morning. >> but just a minor breeze compared to what we saw from yesterday. and that will subside as we get into the day today. just a quick check of the things we're single digits over the north bay here where >> a lot of winds are holding up into the afternoon yesterday. not so active in the east bay. usual. notice. but back to those temperatures because winds weren't as active. however, you can see there popping a little bit way to the far east. we see like 40 for antioch and san jose. 36 livermore up to the north bay here. chilly 34 for santa rosa. 48 san francisco. so not your imagination. yes, much colder today this morning that we saw from yesterday by a good measure, a dozen or more degrees behind were numbers were yesterday. so the temperatures hardly moved at all yesterday. but today they have a big hill to climb up because of this hole. we're in temperature wise. well, that's where the drier did the clear skies minus the winds. let's get back to that drier. how long as it's going to stick around. we dry out again this afternoon. you can see pockets

of the marine layer trying to sneak back a bit. but it doesn't come back in earnest for the morning hours or late at night until we get to monday night into tuesday. still pretty the forecast all week long. that looks like so breaking it down for you today. chilly. start mild day, though, sunny and nice this week at sunny much the same day by day. probably fair to call the persistence forecast with those highs of about 60 or so into next weekend. some scattered that will be the case towards the end of the week, particularly a shot of a shower friday saturday. possibility question mark on that one. and we have a little shot. maybe the following tuesday, maybe 62 against san francisco. looks like oakland. 64 67 san jose get some movement there. so don't feel like i'm nice spring day coming your way. 61 antioch at 66 up to santa rosa in a bit. we'll check in your 4 zone forecast the extended and see what those models have to say. well, thanks, dave. >> activists against vaccine mandates are in washington, dc right now participating in the defeat. the mandates rally

thousands of protesters are expected to attend in about an hour. protesters will march from the washington monument to lead the lincoln memorial where speakers will take the stage. and i think this is the correct video here. this comes just a week after officials in dc mandated people have to show proof of vaccination in order receive services inside local businesses. alma weight was lifted off the shoulders of thousands of santa clara county residents after the county made free at-home covid tests available. the county purchasing about 60,000 test kits as kron four's leap reports, they'll be handed out to those who signed up for them throughout the week. >> on friday, within hours of making 15,000 appointments available for santa clara county residents to pick up for free. i hope to 19 antigen rapid test starting saturday. all appointments were booked up as this early. in a it is. the county chose to purchase

and hand out 60,000 test kits separate from the free tests being offered by the federal government. this as people struggle to find the kits in stores and online, i even try because all see is like they're also not anywhere. so. >> pretty getting this for free, really helpful. marshall couple park in san jose was one of opened up throughout the county, including foothill college in the los altos hills. the county will continue to pass the tests out through next saturday, a mental health therapist. so like have to get these in some seeing people every the county says the accuracy of the test should be trusted. >> adding that if an antigen test result is positive, people should adhere to isolation guidance. but there is no need to report to any agency. just took an awful mom, a school, a high school placement test. and you need to be test before attending placement test. because we need to get testing all the time. although the county says this first round of tests have

been accounted for and will be claimed. >> they're hoping to order more in the coming weeks in san jose phillipe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> children's discovery museum is teaming up with santa clara county today to hold a vaccine clinic. the clinic is open to every family with a child or adult that eligible to be vaccinated. family who get families to get vaccinated will get a family pass to the museum. the clinic will be held at the museum in downtown san jose. it starts at 9.30 this morning. another clinic is also set to be held february 13th. and tomorrow the city of south san francisco is going to be opening 2 new covid-19 testing sites. mayor mark mccollough says the one side is going to be on linden avenue. the other one will be at mater dolorosa church says the sites are going to be offering up to 2000 tests a day starting tomorrow. the site on linden avenue will be open monday through saturday from 08:00am to 04:00pm you do have to

>> 7.24. here on this sunday morning in kron. 4 is monitoring a developing story from new york city. we're learning new details about an officer shot and killed while responding to a call thursday night in harlem. another officer. >> and the suspect were injured during the shooting as well. jennifer, jennifer bisram has details. >> dramatic moments after 2 nypd officers were shot in the line of duty in harlem friday right and why pd officers, jason rivera and wilbert mora, we're responding to a domestic disturbance call involving a mother and her son. 47 year-old was sean mcneil and an apartment here on 100 and 35th street. that's when police say mcneil swung open the bedroom door and started firing with this gun air 11 was over. the tragic scene as officers blocked off several streets to rush to of their own.

tsunami. >> took on mango island in tonga. check these out. the once lush green landscape now almost completely red and gray nearly every home was damaged on this tiny island, which is about 43 miles from where that volcano erupted. only about 36 people live on that island. meanwhile, aid from australia arrived yesterday via an australian military transport plane. officials say ash covering the runway made for complicated delivery. >> some guys downsfield to be cleaved, a sufficiently broad to land this deal line getting national, the area of the area does a company right have we waited. with the item >> the eruption killed at least 3 people left dozens more homeless on the islands. deliveries are being dropped

morning. temperature but a cold one. it is sticky inland. 36 livermore, but about colder drainage down the valley, typical currents per ticket. with that dry air. all 40's line up the east bay shoreline. a little fremont coming in at 37 san jose at 40 and you'll be climbing nicely this afternoon, 30's and 40's mixture up north and 48 for san francisco. a check of told they're going to get more of what we're going to get except a little cooler. we've got 40's expected all week long and no snow for them in sight as there is no rain for us question. mark, as we get towards the end of the week, the stories that little chance, though, as far as what we've seen, we've had dry air a little bit more moisture has slipped through the delta. just a touch there drying out this afternoon. and then tonight, here's the recovery supposedly by tomorrow morning, your seat. we're still kind of banking off that dry atmosphere so that marine layer really hasn't snapped back yet. it will probably by tuesday and forward not going to us any rain good, but at least it's kind of back to kind of normal, if you will, with very mild temperatures

for the week ahead, we get a flavor of spring coming our way. it looks like all week long and as we watch the pacific, we're having some hope here on friday. yeah, well, this is what it looks like now. kind of falling apart a little bit here and of the following tuesday. and there's another little chance there. we'll see if that holds the models don't agree on all of that. so it's a little possibility will put for maybe a chance of some showers for the end of the week on the 7 day, looking at your 4 zone forecast. 62 for san francisco today. we'll do the lower 60's along the coast. bayside also lower 60's that remember, we're off to a cold start. so we actually have to climb a lot more in terms of separation is much greater than we saw yesterday. 64 for palo alto in the south bay, 67 san jose. 65 for cupertino. mid 60's east bay shoreline, tri valley member. how showed you this morning up to 63 this afternoon. now, 63 for walnut creek, 62 for berkeley, the late host, 62 66 for fairfield napa. 63 and 66 for santa

oaths at the space is empty put something on it. put a picture on it are put a planned on it. do something with it. but trying to refrain from filling empty spaces because empty spaces can actually be a gateway to peace and trout. tranquility. the brain likes organization. it doesn't like letter and you will actually possibly sleep better if your room is not uncluttered. really? just because your brain is not to looking at so many things before it goes to bed kind of like, yes, it likes it, likes organizations. so if your room is totally disorganized clothes everywhere than it's time to refocus and clean up your room. haha timing very important. okay. next is simplifying your wardrobe. this is something i need help with because i feel like every time i try to do this and with bags of clothes that then just sit on the floor that i'm like, i need to get rid of this. but having a time to take it out. but you're saying that that's something we've

got to do. yes, and just trying pare down your war, joe, to things that you really feel comfortable in or things that you really love and just get rid of all the others. you know, if you don't like to do laundry, you know, and just just try not to just accumulate a lot of close. it's just gets very cluttered. and again, you're suffocating in your stuff. so would you suggest maybe if you're you if you end up buying something, maybe getting rid of something in place of the new. piece of something like that. that's a great that's a great idea. and actually had a friend that did that with her kids. whenever they got toys. if they got a new toy, they had to get rid of one. so they never had this abundance of clutter like we have down in our >> raj is a very thing to do. ok and ok, this is for folks who obviously are maybe trying to eat a little less simplifying your pantry.

>> oh, and i recently did this and i found so many expired things in my pantry. so definitely clean out the expired goods, clean out anything that it doesn't near issue. so maybe the junk food and and also start focusing on and buying foods that are seasonal and local. so, you know, go to your farmers market and and try and get something that's very fresh that that's going to know or she the best. and you consider doing more grocery shopping and picking up at the grocery store. yes, and i started doing that. and i found that i spend less and i don't buy in polls. you know, i don't do any impulse buying. and by just what i need, because i know i can get some the next time versus going to the store and saying, well, i don't know what i'm going to be here next. and just loading at the cart. and what happens is we

waste a lot of food. i mean, general american stowaway a lot of food, mostly produce. so and that's that kind of goes ties into the next thing. the most expensive food you can buy is the ones that you throw away well. and so this next one is simplifying your expenses. and i did this for, you know, al, thank you. i was going to say, you know what my new year's resolution is >> yes, so so this one you don't want to work harder to pay for things that you really don't need. so when you go out and you're thinking about buying something, think about, do i need this or is this just a buy out of convenience? so start to really think about before you buy something, simplifying those and then i'm challenging you to spend 15% less this month. then you normally would. i already

started. i canceled my hulu. a hulu live subscription. i'm just going to go back to the basic. >> hulu, which is like $7 a month as opposed to who lives like $65 a month or something like that. so i've already taken that away. i've i the burden of it yesterday when i went to go look at it and it's now, you know, not i don't have the live options. that was kind of, you know, a little sad. but i think after that, you know, a week or so, i won't really notice too next to and then i don't know if you've heard of the blood. mister money mustache. it's a great blog. >> for its all about money and how to get off of debt debt, powered treadmill. so that's a great resource. all right. i will look at it. mister money mustache. that's a good okay. so simple. find your meals. that kind of goes hand-in-hand with simplifying your pantry right? right, right. so try and simplify your cooking your recipes. look for recipes that

are when pot one pan recipes. thanks, ed. up may only have 5 ingredients because you spend less time the kitchen. you have more time to do other things and and then think about a multi cooker because a multi cooker is like a pressure cooker, a rice cooker and a slow cooker all in one. yeah. so that could also simplify your space in the kitchen. if you get a multi cookbook or and you can get rid all those other things. okay. final thing because they were running out of time here. but you did today simplify your workouts for people who want to exercise a little bit more. right. so so think about in order to do this. you need to exercise smarter, not harder. start to include more compound exercises compound exercises, work. multiple muscle groups. so you want to do you know you want to be very efficient. very. these are very functional exercises. things like squats and lunges. they work multiple muscle groups and you could combine

them with other things, too. like a sqpat with a bicep curl overhead pressed and then you can also the cardio with your a compound exercises may jumping jack with a squat which makes laura a squat. get up still just just start getting really creative. because that will shorten your workout. you'll they'll be more high intensity and you're not going to have these long workouts that can make a very tired and you could lose motivation to definitely. and that's not what we want. karen, thank you so much for helping us simplify our lives this morning. you're welcome. we'll be right back. still

moon bay, even with the climate control, the oceans still been on the cool side. we're at 45 there. but 30's, you can see off to the far east bay. 36 up to santa rosa napa. 39, we have the dry air that's been around. but this time around, we don't have as much in the way of winds to kind of mix up the atmosphere. so the air was the radiational cooling, allow the temperatures to fall bit overnight. temperature change. this is what we're talking about. more than a dozen degrees behind where we were this time from yesterday. however, we're looking for similar highs because we won't have as much the way of winds going on. so will be allowed to warm up nicely this afternoon. a quick check into those winds turning more calm. although single-digit, you can see up a little in the north bay and the peninsula touch. the breakdown today will do about 57 by high noon to 3 o'clock. 61 get used to it. we've got more of this to come. maybe a sprinkle trying to develop towards the end of the week. we'll get more of that in a bit. well, we'll keep our fingers crossed for that because firefighters, they're still fighting the colorado fire along the big

sur coast this morning. it broke out friday night and continue to be fanned by high winds. >> friday evening at yesterday. cal fire says it is now. 25 1% contained sitting at more than 1000 acres. >> luckily, though, no injuries so far. kron four's amanda hari has an update. cal fire tells me there is some good news. they say the winds have died down and that has allowed firefighters to gain the upper hand. >> on this fire you see here, they did outstanding more incredible video shows firefighters working to get a fire along the big sur coast under control. >> it's being called the colorado fire. the fire is burning in steep. rugged terrain is very difficult to it's got redwoods. it's got large brush. >> and we've also had very poor overnight recoveries. that means that overnight when the education usually the humidity levels rise, that didn't really happen last night. all areas west of 3800

palo colorado, road to highway one and south. the bixby creek were evacuated. >> part of highway one south of half moon bay was closed in both directions because of downed power lines and branches. but it's now reopened. we were able to an air attack going. 2 helicopters and 2 tankers. we have 3 strike teams here from units from cal fire all over the region. cal fire public information officer cecile juliette tells me the firefighters will continue to work around the clock. firefighters will be on the ground throughout the the planes will be grounded because it's going to be dark. but firefighters going to continue fight throughout the evening. and then, you know. >> continue on through the morning. she's asking everyone who lives in or near the area to be understanding. >> of the severity of this situation asking for people. >> to be patient and also give first responders a lot of room to work so they can get this fire knocked down. you get

everybody back home. she tells me 10 or 15 years ago it would be extremely rare have a fire of this magnitude. >> in january that now we have a fire year and not a fire season, but she says firefighters are prepared for that. >> amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> down in the south bay, san jose police are investigating the city's a fatal crash of the year. police say the hit and run happened last night around 7.30, on north jackson avenue. pedestrian was struck by a car and died some time later at the hospital. police say this is also the city's 6th pedestrian death of the year. >> the forty-niners one more win away from the super bowl. can they do it again? they're headed to the nfc championship for the second time in 3 seasons. i have a feeling they're going to do it this year. >> the niners they gave fans a repeat of the nail biting wild card game last night. this

matchup against the packers came down to just one field goal. here's the highlights. packers took the opening kickoff. >> aj dillon finish off the play with a 6 yard touchdown. forty-niners defense picked up after that. the offense, though, struggled late in the 2nd quarter. watch this. jimmy g looking for george kittle. but he threw interception to adrian amos. that was a big blow there. i know a lot of people pretty upset including jimmy g is you can see there. 3 plays later, though, aaron rodgers throws it to aaron jones. he gets a 75 yard gain for the packers who look like they're going to get a field goal right before the half. however, take a look at this jimmie ward. he blocked that field goal attempt. thankfully forty-niners still went into the half down 7, nothing you can see everyone really happy about that. blocked coming up. now in the 3rd quarter, deebo samuel ands up taking a big

hit and he immediately fell to the ground. he had to leave the game. i know a lot of people really nervous about this one. good news, though. he didn't need any medical attention. he was able to return later on in the game. the niners also got a field goal. they ended up making it 7 to 3 and then in the 4th quarter, the score was 10 to 3 was 4th down for the niners. they turned the ball over to the packers with 6 minutes. 10 seconds left to play. packers forced to punt. but jordan willis blocked that one and then who fonda picked up and returned it for the touchdown. the score was tied 10 to 10. like i said, this was legitimately a nail biter 14 years and another after another green bay punts deebo samuels came back to get a first down which set up robbie gould. he ended up kicking a field goal from 45 yards out.

it was good. the niners ended up winning final score was 13 to 10. san francisco now headed to the nfc championship game against the winner of today's game. that game between the rams and the bucs. so we'll see who they end up facing off with after the game. kyle shanahan could not be prouder of his team's gutsy effort to pull out that win. >> the defense was unbelievable. and the way the sfecial set it up. the blocked kick, the blocked punt for robbie. hard to get 100% on this field goals. i was so big and every time we felt like we almost got something going with, it was a penalty. a couple drops. they rush real. well, we have a number but the guys just about to them and find a way to get a win there. i couldn't be more proud of them. yes, i have a buddy of mine who owns a soccer shoe company back lancaster, pennsylvania, 70 new. >> 7 stood klee. mother cleats. have been from might 15 years ago. so it's do so.

>> welcome back. 8.15, here on this sunday morning in pg and e crews worked all day yesterday to get lights back on to thousands of homes and businesses who are left in the dark from those strong winds took over the bay area friday night into saturday. lots of downed trees citizen app. video of some of the damage left behind in oakland. you can see a tree just completely toppled over there in the street during the height of the outages. p g says more than 30,000 customers are actually without power. many of the outages there in the east bay, if they're continuing to still work to get power back on for some customers. but it's significantly improved its 16 time to get a check of your weather forecast. dave spahr given us a closer look at what to expect, dave, i know we need jackets before heading out right now. it is kind of chilly out there. yeah. and

we're more than a dozen degrees behind. but when you see 2 or 3 o'clock this afternoon or so, maybe 2 twen 30 or so we'll be progressing beyond will be matching what our numbers were yesterday. very close to that. so numbers are going to move very quickly today. we're going to miss how quickly it's moving as far as the temperatures were yesterday, they were pretty constant throughout most of the day, dry air. yes, we still have it. this is what it looks like as we go forward to the day it dries out during the day. that's typical. and then tomorrow morning and we have a little in the way of some pockets of some moisture taking hold again, dries out the afternoon and then monday night, it looks like finally in earnest. this is a more typical pattern. we see with the overnight hours. all that green on the board there, which we didn't see yesterday and won't see as much tonight several behind us here. sunny and nice. temperatures moving quickly now to reach those lower 60's for this week. sunny, in much the same temperatures hang about 60 or

pfizer is weighing in on the long-term response to the pandemic. albert bourla told israeli media an annual covid-19 vaccine is going to be more preferable to frequent booster shots. he said it would be easier to convince people to get the shot if it were once a year for says every 4 or 5 months. and it would be easier for them to remember. bourla also says pfizer could be ready to file for approval for a redesigned vaccine to help fight omicron and mass produce it as soon as march. well, a weight was lifted off the shoulders of thousands of santa clara county residents because the county is now making free at-home covid tests available. the county purchased about 60,000 test kits for this. they're going to be handed out to those who signed up for one through the course of the week. kron four's phillipe djegal has details. >> on friday, within hours of making 15,000 appointments available for santa clara county residents to pick up for free. i know covid-19

antigen rapid test starting saturday. all appointments were booked up as this early. it it is. the county chose to purchase and hand out 60,000 test kits separate from the free tests being offered by the federal government. this as people struggle to find the kids in stores and online, i even try because all see is like they're also not anywhere. so. >> pretty getting this for free, really helpful. marshall couple park in san jose was one of opened up throughout the county, including foothill college in the los altos hills. >> the county will continue to pass the tests out through next saturday, a mental health therapist. so like have to get these in some seeing people every or the county says the accuracy of the test should be trusted. >> adding that if an antigen test result is positive, people shouldn't here to isolation guidance. but there is no need to report to any agency. just took an awful

out here in here and i know it's chilly out there as well. right? dave? >> yes, this is true. much colder than it was yesterday. we're looking at temperatures to climb very quickly this afternoon. half moon bay. there you see the clear skies at work as we start the day, most the traffic in the pacific going to our north, going to our south and this is a pattern you're going to see over the week. it looks like towards the end of the week. there's a little hope of picking up maybe a shower, but don't really count too much on it today. weise jump right to the through the 50's into the lower 60's by early this afternoon under sunny skies, we maintain that dry air. however, it looks like for another 48 hours or so. 36 santa rosa. 35 livermore concord at 38. 44 for antioch, with 40's lining up the east bay shoreline. 41 checking in for san jose. this is what we expect for today after those cold temperatures in some cases in the 30's, we're up to 62 san francisco racing ahead. 67 going on for san jose open. meanwhile, for 64 now a little

coastal cities have been upgrading infrastructure since the 2011 tsunami from a japanese earthquake. so that helped a bit. crews are still estimating the damage toll statewide. a man near sacramento just found out the utility that is utility company was knowingly over charging him for months and says he's gone out of his way to try and get it fixed. jeannie nguyen shows us what you should be looking out for. >> the past 18 years scott rose inquest has lived in this west sacramento neighborhood as a pg e customer. he's used to paying around $250 a month for gas and electricity during the winter. >> so i got the bill for december. >> and saw he was charged $554 and $0.36 just for gas that started looking into it to try to figure out what was wrong. it wasn't until you saw that high number on his gas bill that he gave pga call. and at that point, that's when he found out his gas meter was actually broken. they didn't

tell me that was broken and i didn't know what i call them. i was very frustrated. pg e spokesperson tells fox 40 news they knew all along that his meter hadn't been working since september. they sent him an estimated bill as they tried to fix the problem. does estimated this allows us to keep the payments on schedule and to avoid that future large-scale covering several pg nice as crews ended up fixing the meter in late december and credited rosenquist $500 on his next bill. >> the utility company admits they are at fault for connecting or to see what happened. you know, it was a mistake and we don't want this happened at a cost we know. it's frustrating. it's because of errors like rosenquist jamie court urges pg e customers to keep a close eye on their bills. he has the same advice for people who use other utility companies. he's the president of consumer watchdog, a nonprofit aimed at protecting people, especially those who have nowhere else to turn for help. if you're overcharged by pg and e you should definitely inform the public utilities commission.

they're supposed to be keeping tabs on this, making it frustrating for people like rosenquist and others living where pg e is the only option for gas and electricity can cancel them. >> the pga knee even though rosenquist has been credited back his money. he says he's still having a hard time trusting pg and e in west sacramento, jeannie nguyen. >> fire investigators in colorado say they're looking into several possible causes into the massive marshall fire among the possibilities are coal mines? officials say one is close to where flames were first seen. >> it's probably pretty rare that we did see anything spread north of the beginning of this fire. usually when these breakout, it's all one wind direction. >> of those are looking at whether the heat of these coal mines could have started. a fire reports show back in 2000, 5, a hot vent from the marshall. mine did start a brush fire, but crews were able to put that out quickly. and in 2000, 2, a separate

do. yes, and just trying pare down your war, joe, to things that you really feel comfortable in or things that you really love and just get rid of all the others. you know, if you don't like to do laundry, you know, and just just try not to just accumulate a lot of close. it's just gets very cluttered. and again, you're suffocating in your stuff. so would you suggest maybe if you're you if you end up buying something, maybe getting rid of something in place of the new. piece of something like, that's a that's a great idea. and actually had a friend that did that with her kids. whenever they got toys. if they got a new toy, they had to get rid of one. so they never had this abundance of clutter like we have down in our >> raj is a very thing to do. yeah, ok and ok, this is for folks who obviously are maybe trying to eat a little less simplifying your pantry.

>> oh, and i recently did this and i found so many expired things in my pantry. so definitely clean out the expired goods, clean out anything that does it. no issues. so maybe the junk food and and also start focusing on and buying foods that are seasonal and local. so, you know, go to your farmers market and and try and get something that's very fresh that that's going to know or she the best. and you consider doing more grocery shopping and picking up at the grocery store. yes, and i started doing that. and i found that i spend less and i don't buy in polls. you know, i don't do any impulse buying. and by just what i need, because i know i can get some the next time versus going to the store and saying, well, i don't know what i'm going to be here next. and just loading at the cart. and what happens is we

waste a lot of food. i mean, general american stowaway a lot of food, mostly produce. so and that's that kind of goes ties into the next thing. the most expensive food you can buy, the ones that you throw away well. and so this next one is simplifying your expenses. and i did this for, you know, al, thank you. i was going to say, you know what my new year's resolution is >> so so this one you don't want to work harder to pay for things that you really don't need. so when you go out and you're thinking about buying something, think about, do i need this or is this just a buy out of convenience? so start to really think about before you buy something, simplifying those i'm challenging you to spend 15% less this month. then you normally would. i already

started. i canceled my hulu of hulu live subscription. i'm just going to go back to the basic. >> hulu, which is like $7 a month as opposed to who lives like $65 a month or something like that. so i've already taken that away. i've i the burden of it yesterday when i went to go look at it and it's now, you know, not i don't have the live options. that was kind of, you know, a little sad. but i think after that, you know, a week or so, i won't really notice too next to and then i don't know if you've heard of the blood. mister money mustache. it's a great blog. for its all about money and how to get off of debt debt, powered treadmill. so that's a great resource. all right. i will look at it. mister money mustache. that's a good okay. so simplifying your meals. that kind of goes hand-in-hand with simplifying your pantry right? right, right. so try and simplify your cooking your recipes.

look for recipes that are one pot. one pan recipes. thanks, ed. up may only have 5 ingredients because you spend less time the kitchen. you have more time to do other things and and then think about a multi cooker because a multi cooker is like a pressure cooker, a rice cooker and a slow cooker all in one. yeah. so that could also simplify your space in the kitchen. if you get a multi cookbook or and you can get rid of all those other things. okay. final because they were running out of time here. but you did today simplify your workouts for people who want to exercise a little bit more. right. so so think about in order to do this. you need to exercise smarter, not harder. could start to include more compound exercises compound exercises, work. multiple muscle groups. so you want to do you know you want to be very efficient. very. these are very functional exercises. things like squats and lunges. they work multiple muscle groups and you could combine

them with other things, too. like a squat with a bicep curl overhead press and then you can also the cardio with your a compound exercises. maybe get jumping jack with the squat, which makes laura a squat down. so just just start getting really creative because that will shorten your workout. you'll they'll be more high intensity and you're not going to have these long workouts that can make a very tired and

that traditional breeze. but nothing major. the breakdown today. sunny, 59 1 by 4. we're at 60. get used to it. this is what we're going to see just about all week long. maybe a little chance of a sprinkle trust working here towards the end of the week. noel. >> thanks, dave. firefighters are still fighting the colorado fire along the big sur coast this morning. it broke out friday night and continue to be fanned by high winds yesterday. cal fire says though, it's now 25% contained sitting at more than 1000 acres in size. luckily, no injuries reported. kron four's amanda hari has an update. it did outstanding. more incredible video shows firefighters working to get a fire along the big sur coast under control. >> it's being called the colorado fire. the fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain is very difficult to it's got redwoods. it's got large brush. >> and we've also had very poor overnight recoveries.

that means that overnight when the vegetation, usually the humidity levels rise, that didn't really happen last night. all areas west of 3800 palo colorado, road to highway one and south. the bixby creek were evacuated. >> part of highway one south of moon bay was closed in both directions because of downed power lines and branches. but it's now reopened. we were able to an air attack going. 2 helicopters and 2 tankers. we have 3 strike teams here from units from cal fire all over the region. cal fire public information officer cecile juliette tells me the firefighters will continue to work around the clock. firefighters will be on the ground throughout the the planes will be grounded because it's going to be dark. but firefighters going to continue fight throughout the evening. and then, you know. >> continue on through the morning. she's asking everyone who lives in or near the area to be understanding. >> of the severity of this situation asking for people.

>> to be patient and also give first responders a lot of room to work so they can get this fire knocked down and get everybody back home. she tells me 10 or 15 years ago it would be extremely rare. have a fire of this magnitude. >> in january. but now we have a fire year and not a fire season, but she says firefighters are prepared for that. >> amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> down in the south bay, san jose police are investigating the city's a fatal crash of the year. police say the hit and run happened last night around 7.30, on north jackson avenue, a pedestrian was struck by a car and died some time later at the hospital. police say this is the city's 6 pedestrian death of the year. >> the forty-niners are one more win away from the super bowl. they are headed to the nfc championship for the second time in 3 will they do it again? i think they might. that is gave fans a repeat of the nail-biting wild card

>> it is 9.15, on this sunday morning in pg and e crews worked all day to get the lights back on to thousands of homes and businesses that were left in the dark yesterday due to strong winds that knocked over trees across the bay area. this is citizen app. video of some of the damage left behind in oakland. you can see a big old tree just knocked over across the street during the height of the outages. yesterday pg and e says more than 30,000 customers were without power. many of those outages there in the east bay. thankfully, the winds have died down. they die down at some point yesterday afternoon. and today, a little chillier, the sun is nice and shining bright heyday.

protesters, though, are expected to attend today's rally. protesters are marching from the washington monument to the lincoln memorial where speakers are also set to take the stage. a weight has been lifted off the shoulders of thousands of santa clara county residents. now the county is making a free at-home covid test kits available. the county purchased about 60,000 test kits be handed out to those who signed up for them through the course of the week. prime forcefully call has details. >> on friday, within hours of making 15,000 appointments available for santa clara county residents to pick up for free. i hope to 19 antigen rapid test starting saturday. all appointments were booked up as this early. it it is. the county chose to purchase and hand out 60,000 test kits separate from the free tests being offered by the federal government. this as people struggle to find the kids in stores and online, i even try

>> the children's discovery museum is teaming up with the santa clara county health department to hold a vaccine clinic today. that clinic is open to every family with a child or adult eligible to be vaccinated. families that get vaccinated are going to be able to get a family pass to the museum as well. clinics going to be held museum in downtown san jose starts at 9.30. goes until 4.30, this afternoon. another clinic is also set to be held on february 13th. if you miss this one again, that's the children's discovery museum. meanwhile, happening tomorrow, the city of south san francisco's going to be opening 2 new covid-19 testing sites. mayor market allah says one of the sites is going to be on linden avenue, the other at mater dolorosa church. those sites are going to be offering up to 2000 tests a day starting tomorrow. the one linden avenue will be open monday through saturday from 8 until 4. you do have to pre-register to get yourself tested there. however, the other site at mater dolorosa church is going to be open

every monday and wednesday from 08:00am to 08:00pm an appointment not required for that site. california is regaining jobs. it lost during the early stages of the pandemic. a new jobs report showing california created 25% of the nation's new jobs last month. the state regained more than 70% of jobs lost in the first few months of the pandemic and unemployment in our state dropped by half a percentage point to 6.5%. governor newsom is responding to the jobs report. he says in part, quote, as we go forward this year will continue taking action to get more folks back to work and support our businesses hit hardest by the pandemic. a starbucks in santa cruz is the first in california store pushing to organize employees of the coffee giant workers found the union position on friday. 22 workers, they're signed those union cards. employees say they're not fully compensated for their hours or are

scott rosenquist has lived in this west sacramento neighborhood as a pg e customer. he's used to paying around $250 a month for gas and electricity during the winter. >> so i got the bill for december. >> and saw he was charged $554 and $0.36 just for gas that started looking into it try to figure out what was wrong. it wasn't until you saw that high number on his gas bill that he gave pga call. and at that point, that's when he found out his gas meter was actually broken. they didn't tell me that was broken and i didn't know what i call them. i was very frustrated. pg e spokesperson tells fox 40 news they knew all along that his meter hadn't been working since september. they sent him an estimated bill as they tried to fix the problem. does estimated this allows us to keep the payments on schedule and to avoid that future large-scale covering several pg nice as crews ended up fixing the meter in late december and credited rosenquist $500 on his next

bill. >> the utility company admits they are at fault for connecting or to see what happened. you know, it was a mistake and we don't want this happened at a cost that we know. it's frustrating. it's because of errors like rosenquist jamie court urges pg e customers to keep a close eye on their bills. he has the same advice for people who use other utility companies. he's the president of consumer watchdog, a nonprofit aimed at protecting people, especially those who have nowhere else to turn for help. if you're overcharged by pg you should definitely inform the public utilities commission. they're supposed to be keeping tabs on this, making it frustrating for people like rosenquist and others living where pg e is the only option for gas and electricity can cancel them. >> the pga me even though rosenquist has been credited back his money, he says he's still having a hard time trusting pg and e in west sacramento, jeannie nguyen. >> over in colorado, fire investigators say they're looking into several possible

causes for the massive marshall fire among the possibilities, coal mines. officials say one coal mine is close to where flames were first seen. >> it's probably pretty rare that we did see anything spread north of the beginning of this fire. usually when these breakout, it's all one wind direction. >> officials are looking at whether the heat of the coal mines could start a fire. reports do show back in 2000, 5, a hot vent from the marshall. mine did start a brush fire, but crews were able to quickly put that one out. and in 2000, 2, a separate coal mines sparked a fire in another part of the state. and that one burned. 29 homes. to some coronavirus news. now the omicron variant has spread rapidly across the nation. it caused a spike in hospitalizations and impacted businesses in sectors from restaurants to travel kron. 4 washington, dc correspondent alexandra limon shows us how some lawmakers want to tackle the problems. >> lawmakers are discussing the possibility of another

media an annual covid-19 vaccine is going to be more preferable to frequent booster shots said it's going to be easier to get people to get the shot. if it were once a year versus every 4 or 5 months and it will be easier for people to remember to go and get that shot. he also says pfizer could be ready to file for approval for a redesigned vaccine to fight omicron and mass produce it as soon as march. scientists are now studying. if the chemical cbd could be effective in the covid-19 fight. a recent study published by researchers at the university of chicago found a drug approved by the fda to treat epilepsy shows promise in human lung cells. and mice study found cbd which is found in cannabis plants does not prevent covid infections, but it does appear to block the replication of the virus. researchers warn affects were limited strictly to high concentrations of cbd. they're suggesting clinical trials should be next. this study was published in the

journal science advances. the first u.s. shipment of military aid to ukraine was delivered as worries of a russian invasion are increasing. that shipment contained 200,000 pounds of lethal aid, including ammunition for frontline ukrainian soldiers. all comes as top diplomats from the u.s. and russia that in geneva on friday to try and find a diplomatic way out. russia wants assurances ukraine will never join nato while the u.s. says russia's demands are nonstarters. michael schur has details. >> it's being called the worst security crisis between russia and the west since the cold war. >> the threat of russian military action in ukraine, lingering russian president vladimir putin now increasing military exercises in the region even in the face of severe economic sanctions. most sanctions on russia could be. >> fairly fatal. >> it's a very small economy,

better if your room is not uncluttered. really? just because your brain is not to looking at so many things before it goes to bed kind of like, yes, it likes it, likes organizations. so if your room is totally disorganized clothes everywhere than it's time to refocus and clean up your room. haha it's very important okay. next is simplifying your wardrobe. this is something i need help with because i feel like every time i try to do this and with bags of clothes that then just sit on the floor that i'm like and to get rid of this, but haven't had time to take it out. but you're saying that that's something we've got to do. yes, and just trying pare down your war, joe, to things that you really feel comfortable in or things that you really love and just get rid of all the others. you know, if you don't like to do laundry, you know, and just just try not to just accumulate a lot of close. it's just gets very cluttered.

and again, you're suffocating in your stuff. so would you suggest maybe if you're you if you end up buying something, maybe getting rid of something in place of the new. piece of something like, that's a that's a great idea. and actually had a friend that did that with her kids. whenever they got toys. if they got a new toy, they had to get rid of one. so they never had this abundance of clutter like we have down in our >> raj is a very thing to do. yeah, ok and ok, this is for folks who obviously are maybe trying to eat a little less simplifying your pantry. >> oh, and i recently did this and i found so many expired things in my pantry. so definitely clean out the expired goods, clean out anything that does it. no issues. so maybe the junk food and and also start focusing on and buying foods that are seasonal and local. so, you

know, go to your farmers market and and try and get something that's very fresh that that's going to know or she the best. and you consider doing more grocery shopping and picking up at the grocery store. yes, and i started doing that. and i found that i spend less and i don't buy in polls. you know, i don't do any impulse buying. and by just what i need, because i know i can get some the next time versus going to the store and saying, well, i don't know what i'm going to be here next. and just loading at the cart. and what happens is we waste a lot of food. i mean, general american stowaway a lot of food, mostly produce. so and that's that kind of goes ties into the next thing. the most expensive food you can buy, the ones that you throw away well. and so this next one is simplifying your expenses. and i did this for, you know, al, thank you. i was

going to say, you know what my new year's resolution is >> so so this one you don't want to work harder to pay for things that you really don't need. so when you go out and you're thinking about buying something, think about, do i need this or is this just a buy out of convenience? so start to really think about before you buy something, simplifying those i'm challenging you to spend 15% less this month. then you normally would. i already started. i canceled my hulu of hulu live subscription. i'm just going to go back to the basic. >> hulu, which is like $7 a month as opposed to who lives like $65 a month or something like that. so i've already taken that away. i've i the burden of it yesterday when i went to go look at it and it's now, you know, not i don't have the live options. that was kind of, you know, a little sad. but i think after

that, you know, a week or so, i won't really notice too next to and then i don't know if you've heard of the blood. mister money mustache. it's a great blog. for its all about money and how to get off of debt debt, powered treadmill. so that's a great resource. all right. i will look at it. mister money muitache. that's a good okay. so simple. find your meals. that kind of goes hand-in-hand with simplifying your pantry right? right, right. so try and simplify your cooking your recipes. look for recipes that are one pot. one pan recipes. thanks, ed. up may only have 5 ingredients because you spend less time the kitchen. you have more time to do other things and and then think about a multi cooker because a multi cooker is like a pressure cooker, a rice cooker and a slow cooker all in one. yeah. so that could also simplify your space in the

kitchen. if you get a multi cookbook or and you can get rid of all those other things. okay. final because they were running out of time here. but you did today simplify your workouts for people who want to exercise a little bit more. right. so so think about in order to do this. you need to exercise smarter, not harder. could start to include more compound exercises compound exercises, work. multiple muscle groups. so you want to do you know you want to be very efficient. very. these are very functional exercises. things like squats and lunges. they work multiple muscle groups and you could combine them with other things, too. like a squat with a bicep curl overhead press and then you can also the cardio with your a compound exercises. maybe get jumping jack with the squat, which makes laura a squat so just just start getting really creative because that will shorten your
