>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning to you. thanks for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm noelle bellow. >> it is saturday, january 29th, final saturday of the month. it's time to get you a check of your forecast. dave spahr standing by with a little bit of the details a day. >> hey, good well, good morning, everybody. and not off to a bad start. here's the shot of the golden gate bridge. we have a little with the way of some scattered clouds. it's a little thicker down south because of a little disturbance in socal. it will be a little player in our forecast in parts of the bay for the early part of the day,

particularly east bay shoreline. you can see still some blew off towards the background as the son just gives us some light of day. a little chilly up there in the north bay, though, again, 30's, lower 30's at that checking in at 32. 33 santa rosa. 36 for contrasted with the inland neighbors in the east bay were also in the mid 30's, antioch, a 38. 35 for livermore east bay shoreline holding in the 40's. and 42 san jose just for comparison sake. a little chillier up in the north bay this morning by almost a dozen degrees compared to that, the east bay, where most readings or to single digits there of this is stormtracker 4. you kind of make out a little bit of the cloud cover to the south, particularly in the east bay. this is all with that low in southern california. again, it will be exiting stage throughout the afternoon, but throw a little cloud puff and therefore 11 o'clock by 2 looking at about 61. very pleasant saturday for you. a little bit more on your forecast in a bit. well, thanks, dave. >> tomorrow the forty-niners are going to face off with the los angeles rams and we're

keeping track of the team and the fans all morning long. the red and gold did suffer some injuries during the last game. and most of those players are cleared to play except for one kron four's. kate rooney has the latest. >> 4 road games in a row. that's how many games the forty-niners have to win to clinch a spot in the super bowl. the nfc championship on sunday here at sofi stadium against the rams will be game number 4 on the road. and when that's the case, you want everyone to be healthy. now. pretty good report at a forty-niners practice on friday running back elijah mitchell cornerback ambry thomas and quarterback jimmy garoppolo were all full participants in the days process but they're still. >> a big question mark pro bowl left tackle. trent williams has been dealing with ankle. sprain was listed as questionable and will likely be game time decision for sunday. >> it's going to be like it was 3 weeks ago. i feel the same way that it beginning the he came out for a walk through the day insurance adamant that he's he was last time too

>> educators and oakland are worried about losing their jobs. if you that schools with predominantly black and brown students are being targeted. and oakland school board member released this list of 2 schools that could merge and 12 schools that have the potential to close, including west lake middle school where timothy killings works as a case manager. i was very disappointed when our schools on the list. he says that his biggest concern is that he'll be out of a job by the end of the school year. there are closures or mergers. somebody has to go can be 2 principles can be to teachers can be 2 sides. teachers, people start losing their jobs. so, yes, we're very concerned. a spokesperson for the oakland unified school district says they haven't released the names of potentially impacted schools yet and had no update as of friday. out surely it surprise vice president of the oakland education association is now arming deer as says, the schools that have the potential to close don't just provide an education to students are also lifelines for the community. prescott, it >> west oakland as a community garden. they have folks come

and pick free food. so the school central role in supporting the community and says 8 of the schools on the list are considered historically black and have a high number of students of color. he says the school should have an impact report done to see how closures will affect students and their families. just to the fortunate that the district continues to trying to balance the budget in the black, the backs of black and brown students. the oakland unified school district has a special board meeting planned for monday to discuss the potential for school closures in san francisco. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> meanwhile, teachers in the west contra costa unified school district are looking into authorizing a strike. the united teachers of richmond union is demanding the district come to an agreement on their covid safety. they're demanding weekly covid testing and high quality masks for all students and staff. earlier this week, the union said they would negotiate with the district and threatened a strike if an agreement was not reached. by today. we're

>> pharmacy chains like cvs and walgreens have started handing out free n 95 masks to people. it all started yesterday. the masks are coming from the biden administration a week ago they announced it would deploy 400 million free n 95 mask to the public. however, here in the bay area, not all the cvs and walgreens stores have the masks in stock. we actually checked with a couple of walgreens and cvs stores in alameda yesterday. they all told us the masks were on available. one woman who tried to get them up. the store told us she's frustrated over the drama of wearing masks. >> we've been playing this game for 2 years. we're getting all kinds of different here. nobody knows what they're doing and that's what i'm

>> welcome back. 7.14, on this saturday morning in a powerful nor'easter is sweeping up the east coast right now. winter storm watches and warnings are in effect for 75 million people in the path of this

storm. the nor'easter is supposed to dump snow on parts of 10 states. high winds and coastal flooding also forecasted for those states. more than 4,000 flights have been canceled even before the storm hit last night. residents were also preparing all day yesterday, just in case the storm keeps them locked in their homes all weekend long. >> just trying to stay inside and the warm, you know, not trying to travel to what's going drive after the of the road to do just that, that hoping to be ahead of it. >> at the front of it and get all the way to maine before it fully hits. because i think we're getting about 2 feet were likely in southern maine. so we should be there in time. >> for are just going to hunker down and plan the snow. >> cold weather expected to follow this weekend storm and potentially leave people without power. so there's going to be a lot of folks

like we just saw preparing and one night i spoke with my brother. he lives in new york. he's definitely hunkering down well. so dave, i know you're no stranger to that type of weather event or yes, january, you know, well, we deal with this kind of stuff. mom used to tell me, ok, school gets called off, bring extra books home. you know, that's with that low course. that's right. c student vice anyway, as you can see on the map, what we're looking at this bright white you see here. >> this is winter storm warning that we know this from tahoe. a lot of times amounts projected here to be another foot and a half or so throughout the day today. but this extends all the way down to delaware. even portions of maryland right up the east coast of new england. it's pretty much all day today until funny, this low lift-off back on the home front, we're dealing with some scattered clouds left over at half moon bay. there you can meanwhile, the golden gate bridge a little bit clearer appearing from this view. now, most of the action is generating. this is down southward is getting the kind of blow off clouds are coming here in this

general direction that lowest rejecting to the east. so it will be departing us throughout the day. the little bit of sun northern edge here. you can see and you can already see it starting to back off just a little bit to folks in the south bay will look for clearing skies and also a little chunk in alameda county for the east bay, a portion of the peninsula. you folks look for improving skies throughout the day today with those high clouds still in there hasn't penetrated as much of the north bay either mid 30's off to the east bay. antioch holds at 40. 33 santa rosa. 32 for napa. 36 ford with 42. meanwhile for san jose futurecast for to watch this kind of be part of our general area looking pretty good into the afternoon. but then as we get into next week, a great sunday, too. but here comes more clouds, scattered clouds our way. unfortunately, any hope of getting any rain out of this doesn't look like it's coming together. but there's a hiccup us having some clouds here for your monday and it looks like another dose or 2 into next week. as you can see, that's pretty dry with all of that. so pesky clouds in the south

bay to start things off vertically mild and nice temps will be in the mid 60's to upper 60's. again, we're looking for clearing skies to the south. mostly sunny, a touch cooler tomorrow. still nice with lower 60's, replacing that we can take it. and then next week, it's a couple of passing waves. that first one i just showed you for monday. then there's 2 other successive ones, number, none, none of which holds any real chance for us getting any rain out of it. unfortunately, for today. again, 62 mostly sunny san francisco. 66 san jose clearing and nice and open comes in at 63 across the wider board. again, we're looking at middle in some cases to upper 60's. we'll get more into that in your 4 zone forecast in a bit. no. thanks, dave. >> a frightening scene in pittsburgh when a 50 year-old bridge collapsed. the steel bridge fell about 150 feet into a ravine yesterday morning. a city bus was on this bridge along with 5 other cars when it collapsed. fortunately, only 10 people

suffered minor injuries. evan lambert has the latest details. >> back to steal a car flipped onto its roof at a bus teetering over the edge of where a section of the more than 400 foot bridge came crashing down over a popular park in pittsburgh. authorities say 10 people were hurt. 3 taken to the hospital. but miraculously, no one died. >> they rolled to the bridge down, which by my understanding wasn't a sudden drop or more from born. there collapsed. >> porter reason why i believe that the injuries we're in a severe as they could have been because it was sudden jolt stop. first responders force to repel 150 feet to rescue people from the stranded bus. >> and using a human chain to bring them to safety. the bridge rated in poor condition by pennsylvania's department of transportation. the city tells news nation it was last inspected in september. and in

forty-niners coming out victorious in the first 2 games. as far as preparations for such a familiar foe, definitely can be tricky. both teams know each other and are well aware of what worked and didn't work in the previous matchups. that being said it's a delicate balance as far as what to keep doing and what adjustments to bake quarterback jimmy garoppolo answer that question. here's what he had to say. i think there's a fine line. you know, the things that you did well in the past, you know, you assume that team. >> they are going to get a fix, those things and, you know, get be ready for the next time. next time you face him. but at the same time, you're like you're saying there's some things that you don't even watch it again because they didn't work or maybe was bad timing of the call. whatever it is. there's a bunch of variables, but you definitely it. take both into account. >> also, both coaches very familiar with each other to we should mention the rams got in their final practice on friday. they have insisted all week that this sunday won't be a repeat of the previous 2 matchups this season or in fact, the last 6 in the series overall, which were all losses

saturday morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. the sun starting to peek through here this morning. it's time to get a check of your forecast. dave spahr standing by in the weather center. dave, is it going to be pretty nice out there today? >> looks like a sweet saturday. yeah, good morning and welcome morning, everybody. we're still kind of negotiated through some coastal clouds here. as you can see from half moon bay. and this extends further to the south for the south bay in some portions of the east bay as well. however, throughout the day today should be improving sky conditions. there's the low, the storing

it to us there. you can see it right off the coast of socal throwing up that cloud cover our way again. it's should jack tree to the east temperature? check at 55 at 11 by 2. we're at 62 some mid 60's to be had in the inland valleys. it looks like for later today. quick check into those temperatures, though. a little chilly up in the north bay with near freezing. you can see napa. 32 rosa. meanwhile, the east bay lot of 30's, 40 coming in for antioch. a 42 san jose forecast today is mostly sunny san francisco about 62 the south bay about 66 san jose in a bit. we'll get into it with your 4 zone forecast. a look at that extended. we have waves coming our way. unfortunately, doesn't look like any real rain with it, though. noel, thanks, dave. >> san francisco residents who received the johnson johnson vaccine and they're supplemental dose can now get a 3rd shot. the san francisco department of public health says they're encouraging health care providers to allow patients who want a 3rd shot to go ahead and get one kron

four's. amanda hari has more. >> the is that the problem of public health says a 3rd dose vaccine for people who originally received the change a vaccine can help reduce symptomatic infection. hospitalization and severe outcome from the omicron variant which i'm told is still a concern. >> the more times you remind the immune system, the more robust it can protect you for the future. so getting a shot, a k a booster makes a lot of sense. biologically to me, the san francisco department of public health put out advisory that residents who got the johnson johnson janssen coronavirus vaccine. >> and have received their supplemental dose can get a 3rd shot. the vaccine was once thought to be a one-dose option. but health officials recommended supplementation. i think it's understandable if people feel a little bit, i'm disappointed or anxious that.

>> you know, guidance is change. ucsf, infectious disease specialist doctor peter chin-hong. >> says the guidance has changed because we've learned more about covid-19 and about its variants. we have to update on knowledge all the time. the recommendation is that the 3rd dose is at least 5 months after the supplemental dose and only used in those 18 and older they want to utilize the pfizer vaccine because it has full fda approval. doctor chin-hong says, well, guidance can continue to change based on how the virus mutates. he does not expect people additional dose every few people worry that we'll be having of 4th and 5th to 16 vaccine. but really, if you want to pick. >> magic numbers really 3. that's how many many vaccines are given to think about it. measles, mumps and rubella, hepatitis b, human papilloma virus. well, this is just for san francisco residents right

now. >> doctor chin-hong tells me he believes that other areas will follow san francisco's lead. amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> 2 important announcements from covid-19 vaccine maker moderna this week. first, the pharmaceutical company says the effectiveness of its booster shot against the omicron variant begins to diminish after about 6 months. the company says data shows the decline happens more quickly than against the original strain. measure also says it started a clinical trial of a booster that specifically targets the omicron variant. well, you may soon get a tax credit for donating blood. a state lawmaker has introduced a bill that would provide a $500 tax credit if you donate blood. at least 4 times in a calendar year, the legislation aims to ease the current blood crisis in california and across the nation. earlier this month, the american red cross announced it was facing its worst blood shortage and more than a decade. the

very disappointed when our schools on the list. he says that his biggest concern is that he'll be out of a job by the end of the school year. there are closures or mergers. somebody has to go can be 2 principles can be to teachers can be 2 sides. teachers, people start losing their jobs. so, yes, we're very concerned. a spokesperson for the oakland unified school district says they haven't released the names of potentially impacted schools yet and had no update as of friday. out surely it surprise vice president of the oakland education association is now arming deer as says, the schools that have the potential to close don't just provide an education to students are also lifelines for the community. prescott, it >> west oakland as a community garden. they have folks come and pick free food. so the school central role in supporting the community and says 8 of the schools on the list are considered historically black and have a high number of students of color. he says the school should have an impact report done to see how closures will

recovery is in charge of catching instances of fraud pertaining to covid relief on thursday. the office warned lawmakers it's on pace to run out of cash by july congress. set aside 25 million dollars for the office to oversee various initiatives established during the pandemic. the government has approved roughly 6 trillion dollars in federal stimulus money to date. you may soon get a tax credit for donating blood. a state lawmaker has introduced a bill that would provide a $500 tax credit if you donate blood. at least 4 times in a calendar year, the legislation aims to ease the current blood crisis in the state as well as across the nation. earlier this month. of course, the american red cross announced it was facing its worst blood shortage in more than a decade. the organization supplies about 40% of the country's blood supply. but it has only been able to meet one quarter of the need. in national news, a 50 year old bridge collapsed

>> 9 of 44 here on this saturday morning. and many bay area families are going to begin celebrating lunar new year this weekend. the city of san francisco is ready to ring in the year of the tiger with statues all across the city. there are 6 life-sized tiger statues scattered across san francisco right now. they're going to be on display through february 19th. you can find them at the chase center at union square at portsmouth square outside the asian art museum at the stonestown galleria as well as outside the lucky supermarket on slow to near sf su. they all have different designs on them. according to the chinese chamber of commerce of san francisco, the statues spotlight, local artists and they reflect upon the culture,
