care. number one in 8 women tend to have their heart attacks later than men. men tend to have their heart attack around 8.65. but i see them younger and younger. now that women have their heart attacks generally in their 70's. okay. so they're older. they're more sick. so that puts him at greater risk of complications. if they have to do any kind of intensive intervention. well, and i think we've kind of briefly touched on this before, but the symptoms and signs of for a woman having a heart attack versus a man is they're not the same. >> right. they're very different there. a typical so it's it's difficult for women to to diagnose themselves. they don't have those classic chest pain. oftentimes no chest pain and they don't have that radiating pain down the arm. number one, most women

having unusual, you know, and, you know, just an identifiable fatigue. they often think that they have the flu and these are sent and set up here one month or before their actual heart attack. so do women really need to listen to their bodies, difficulty sleeping? that's another one that's very common. and weakness. all the symptoms that are are are very excuse me are very and so women again, they tend to minimize the symptoms, thinking it something else. >> and there's a lot of the symptoms you say they're starting even a month before the actual heart attack. >> correct. and and being that, they you know, that it's it's nothing that they feel is is imperative they go to the doctor. it just lingers until they really have a massive heart attack by the time it actually occurs right chest

>> a 44 here on this sunday morning and dave spahr is standing by its not only going to let you know what to do, what you're going to deal with today. but he's got a full week forecast today. yeah. looks like a springtime one. we've got ahead. good morning. well, good morning, everybody live shot coming and a half moon bay. can you beat that beautiful sunshine? we don't have to contend with the cloud cover this morning like we did from yesterday and very little in the way of intrusion all week long. in fact, it looks like >> looking into the end of the week, we see some scattered clouds start to develop here. santa rosa still fighting it. 31 most readings have graduated will be on the freezing mark 30's. you can see off to the east bay, though, still remain east bay shoreline. some 40's pop up here and they're checking what how dry? and a little mild,
8:45 am
too. yeah, we're going up to 50 looks like tomorrow. upper 40's prevail tuesday and wednesday. don't forget the melting process actually absorb some. he, too. so that keeps sometimes temperatures a little suppressed, not just the elevation, which also works in their favor. hopefully we won't see too much melting going on because we need that up there for the whole winter months. as we look ahead for the week. okay. is anything changing? well, at the end, it looks like, oh, that's interesting. yeah, a little bit of a tease, but maybe that will develop into something later on successive model runs. looks like it's high and dry, though, for the week ahead for your 4 zone forecast this sunday. 65 san francisco during the middle to lower 60's along the coast. burlingame comes in 65. southern end of the peninsula down to the upper 60's. you can see in the south bay, not quite 70, but 68 san jose. also santa clara cupertino at 68 as well, east bay shoreline to the south upper 60's tri valley mid 60's and walnut creek at 65 along with berkeley. what 65 to

fairfield, 69 vacaville popping at 70 67 for napa and santa rosa also going to 70 as well with upper 60's down to more in 7 day forecast. look at that. by wednesday. we're in the 70 mid 70's going into next weekend. now there's some scattered clouds. so we'll see how that develops. now, those lows still a little chilling next couple of nights in the upper 30's. we get into the 40's. it looks like by midweek to finish off the week and 40's pretty much dominate at the coast. >> for your health this this past friday, you may have seen a lot of red because it was national wear red day. it's a day to raise awareness about heart disease and women. men, of course, experience more heart attacks compared to women. women are less likely to survive a heart attack to support the american heart associations initiative. go red for women are health expert karen owoc is explaining why heart attacks are the number one killer of women. karen, i did not know that. yes. and a lot of women
8:47 am
don't see heart disease as their greatest health threat. >> you know, one in one woman dies of a heart attack every minute yeah. so today segment is all about women. why are women more likely to die of a heart attack? well, well, number delay care, women tend to minimize their symptoms. we and, you know, women tend to be nurtures and a lot of my patients that did have heart attacks who are women said that they also did not want to interrupt the household. you know, so they kind of stuck it out. they had a heart attack. they were having their heart attack during night, but didn't want to interrupt anyone just disrupting. want to go to the hospital and then by the next morning, they're calling their doctor to make an appointment. so they're not even going to the er. so delay care. number one in 8 women tend to have their heart
8:48 am
attacks later than with men. men tend to have their heart attack around 8.65. but i see them younger and younger. now that women have their heart attacks generally in their 70's. okay. so they're older. they're more sick. so that puts him at greater risk of complications. if they have to do any kind of intensive intervention. well, and i think we've kind of briefly touched on this before, but the symptoms and signs of for a woman having a heart attack versus a man is they're not the same. >> right. they're very different there. a typical so it's it's difficult for women to to diagnose themselves. they don't have those classic chest pain. oftentimes no chest pain and they don't have
8:49 am
or before their actual heart attack. so do women really need to listen to their bodies, difficulty sleeping? that's another one that's very common and weakness. all the symptoms that are are are very excuse me are very and so women again, they tend to minimize the symptoms thinking it's something else. >> and there's a lot of the symptoms you say they're starting even a month before the actual heart attack. >> correct. and and being that, they you know, that it's it's nothing that they feel is is imperative they go to the doctor. it just lingers until they really have a massive heart attack by the time it actually occurs right chest discomfort and that sort of thing when it comes to icu put

here, women aged 55 and younger 7 times more likely. >> to be misdiagnosed in the er and sent home mid heart attack. yes, and that's really. and that's happened to some of my patients to so. >> if you know, if you go into the er, you have the anxiety you have abdominal discomfort. they often said well, go home and and and rest and you probably have some kind of bug. >> and >> when occur appear in the in the er and they're young, they're often misdiagnosed. it's really it's really sad to see that. so you really have to be. >> your own advocate, do you really have to be persistent? say i want to see a cardiologist, ok? what are the risk factors? what is it that's going to lead a woman to potentially have a heart attack later in life? well, they sound like who have you
8:51 am
tend to have the the traditional risk factors. high blood pressure smoking diabetes, women, they found that women tend to have a specific. >> family history that ties to their risk and they found that women that have have mother said had a stroke are also more likely to have a heart attack as well as a stroke. okay. so look at your family history. okay. >> and when and if you do you love realize or believe you might be having a heart attack, what should you do? >> so first of all, to call 911 very and often times people attend. it's surprisingly tend to want to drive themselves to the doctor or to the er. and that is number one mistake because you
8:52 am
also, if you called the er, if you call 911, they are in communication with the hospital. they will know if the cath lab where where they can actually go in and open up to the blood clot is available. if not, they're going to have to reroute to another hospital so that the recent to always call 911. >> and karen, i know you eeg. i'd called how to stop a heart attack. that's something viewers, if interested in learning a little bit more, that's on your web site right? >> yes, and it's a free guy. my brother had a heart attack when he was 35. wow. he they indigestion. >> he had it was cold clammy. i knew he had was having a heart attack at the time. >> but the one thing well, i did not know is i didn't know

freakishly warm. look at that 60 half moon bay jumping out. 48 for san francisco in want check out the water there. so here's the long-range forecast model for you. and again, mostly sunny. it looks like for the most part and tricky for us gets interesting in the next weekend. we have some scattered clouds and oh, yeah, that's interesting. but it looks like a bit of a tease that's early into the following week, by the way. so we'll see in successive model runs. what happens with this little plume of moisture? perhaps it'll come by. give us a little dose of some rain showers. 4 zone forecast for your sunday comes in like this. 65 san francisco mid 60's to lower 60's along the coast. 65 for burlingame to the south foster city. 65 67. palo alto and 65 mountain view in the south bay. not quite 70, yet upper 60's at work here. san jose at 60 morgan hill. 69 santa clara, 68 upper 60's east bay shoreline, tri valley, mid 60's at work here. 65 for walnut creek and concord. 65 for berkeley it's

lot of women don't see heart disease as their greatest health threat. >> no one in one woman dies of a heart attack every minute yeah. so today segment is all about women. why are women more likely to die of a heart attack? well, well, number delay care, women tend to minimize their symptoms. we and, you know, women tend to be nurtures and a lot of my patients that did have heart attacks who are women said that they also did not want to interrupt the household. you know, so they kind of stuck it out. they had a heart attack. they were having their heart attack during night, but didn't want to interrupt anyone just disrupting. want to go to the hospital and then by the next morning, they're calling their doctor to make an appointment. so they're not even going to the er. so delay
9:48 am
care. number one in 8 women tend to have their heart attacks later than men. men tend to have their heart attack around 8.65. but i see them younger and younger. now that women have their heart attacks generally in their 70's. okay. so they're older. they're more sick. so that puts him at greater risk of complications. if they have to do any kind of intensive intervention. well, and i think we've kind of briefly touched on this before, but the symptoms and signs of for a woman having a heart attack versus a man is they're not the same. >> right. they're very different there. a typical so it's it's difficult for women to to diagnose themselves. they don't have those classic chest pain. oftentimes no chest pain and they don't have that radiating pain down the arm. number one, most women
9:49 am
having unusual. >> you know, and, you know, just an identifiable fatigue. they often think that they have the flu and these are sent and set up here one month or before their actual heart attack. so do women really need to listen to their bodies, difficulty sleeping? that's another one that's very common and weakness. all the symptoms that are are are very excuse me are very and so women again, they tend to minimize the symptoms, thinking it something else. >> and there's a lot of the symptoms you say they're starting even a month before the actual heart attack. >> correct. and and being that, they you know, that it's it's nothing that they feel is is imperative they go to the doctor. it just lingers until they really have a massive heart attack by the time it

actually occurs right chest discomfort and that sort of thing when it comes to icu put here, women aged 55 and younger 7 times more likely. >> to be misdiagnosed in the er and sent home mid heart attack. yes, and that's really. and that's happened to some of my patients to so. >> if you know, if you go into the er, you have the anxiety you have abdominal discomfort. they often said well, go home and and and rest and you probably have some kind of bug. and when occur appear in the in the er. >> and they're young. they're often misdiagnosed. it's really it's really sad to see that. so you really have to be. >> your own advocate, do you really have to be persistent? say i want to see a cardiologist. what are the risk factors? what is it that's going to lead a woman
9:51 am
to potentially have a heart attack later in life? well, they sound like who have you tend to have the the traditional risk factors. high blood pressure smoking diabetes, women, they found that women tend to have a specific. >> family history that ties to their risk and they found that women that have have mother said had a stroke are also more likely to have a heart attack as well as a stroke. okay. so look at your family history. okay. >> and when and if you do you love realize or believe you might be having a heart attack, what should you do? >> so first of all, to call 911 very and often times people attend. it's surprisingly tend to want to drive themselves to the doctor or to the er. and that is number one mistake because you can go into full cardiac arrest. i had a patient that
9:52 am
his wife joe's and drove him to the hospital. luckily she didn't hit any red lights because as soon as she pulled up to the hospital, he went into full cardiac arrest. so you don't want that to happen. also, if you called er, if you call 911, they are in communication with the hospital. they will know if the cath lab where where they can actually go in and open up to the blood clot is available. if not, they're going to have to reroute to another hospital so that the recent to always call 911. >> and karen, i know you eeg. i'd called how to stop a heart attack. that's something viewers, if interested in learning a little bit more, that's on your web site right? >> yes, and it's a free guy. my brother had a heart attack when he was 35. wow. he they indigestion. >> he had it was cold clammy. i knew he had was having a heart attack at the time.
