>> 9.44 and where? oh, where has winter gone? well, don't know where it went, but it came back. it's coming back this week. dave's far as got a little bit more detail on the snow. we're going to see and talk, well, yeah, it's going to be a reminder that winter is still among us who just took a little bit of a hiatus. it looks like a little then there's the snow will be found on monday into tuesday. but notice the temperature drop. we're going to feel that in the bay area to particularly our overnight lows. you see that in the extended forecast.
9:45 am
>> half moon bay overcast will be the role expected today. some last-minute fog mixes out only to reveal more mostly cloudy skies and a bit of a breeze starting to develop later. first thing cloud cover basically which helped us overnight a bit too. we start off in a mild note, actually warmer than we were yesterday. however, we're going to fall behind this afternoon. some cooler air filtering in behind this and a good, strong onshore wind to 45 santa rosa got lower 50's lining up the east bay shoreline. 48 for livermore. 51 san jose also matching in san francisco. so by this evening, here we go. winds into the 20's. now this is not enough for wind advisory, but at the time period looks to be pretty long. it late this afternoon evening through the overnight to be here monday as we clear up, by the way, and it will be cooler even with the sunshine out. but the winds continue all the way through tuesday. now it's tuesday night that you're gonna start to feel the big chill going on wednesday morning. thursday morning,
9:46 am
particularly watching things going into motion. here is that first shot of precipitation occurring monday night into tuesday is what it looks like. that opportunity is a break. it's cold in the home front and then successive systems may be one on sunday and another one into next week to look out for this is way ahead. so these models again can change a lot on us. 4 zone forecast comes in like 6.59 rather for san francisco. we keep it in the shelley 50's along the coast. shock to the system there. that's almost a 10 degree drop. 59 for burlingame heading down south. forget about the 70 61 for redwood city. 65 from mountain view, even in the south bay, we're settling in the middle 60's here, san jose. 66 66 for cupertino and struggling to reach about 60 on the east bay shoreline, adding a couple degrees for pleasanton livermore about 63. 64 for walnut creek concord. 67, 63 for berkeley. 62 of allay and 63 fairfield with nap at 67 and 69 santa rosa. ok, we go through this and on presidents
9:47 am
day tomorrow. it's a cold, blustery day. 56. but lots of sunshine. then cloud cover comes back. and here's a lot opportunity for some showers. we keep it in the 50's all week long. but look at the lows. we revisit the upper 20's starting on your well wednesday morning, probably and 40's cover us along the coast well. >> well, i venture to say we all know someone who's made a career move since the pandemic started. in fact, you might know more than a few people who have left their jobs because a record 4 and a half million people quit their jobs just ahead of the holidays. and that's continuing a trend. it's being dubbed the big quit. if you're thinking about following suit and leaving your job, there are a few steps you'll need to know before taking that leap here to give us the scoop on how to quit. smart is east bay financial planner sam to sam, always a pleasure to have you here. i feel like for me every week someone i know is quitting their job. moving on to something else talking
9:48 am
first about the main reasons that this is happening at such a large scale. >> yeah, you know, it was interesting. we're calling it the big quit. i think we should really be calling it the big switch because people are leaving their job to what we found is in about 10 million job openings over the last 6 months. so i think what the data is telling us is that people are leaving their jobs, but they're finding new jobs. they're upgrading maybe, you know, one of the positive things about the pandemic is really had people thinking about their career choices and it might be even gave them an opportunity to make a change. and we're starting to see that coming to the data to that. >> and and are we also seeing that different jobs are now starting to pay people more because they're seeing that they're losing folks. >> gosh, i'll tell you, i the demand for talent is probably the most extensive i've ever seen it and employers are taking serious steps. i mean, you can bonus is, you know, kind of negotiations is really
9:49 am
great time to be looking for a because there's lots of jobs out there and they're paying more money. and and, you know, it's one thing to note, though, is that is creating some problems in the service base job dry because people are leaving jobs may be like for a job where they can stay home work from home. they don't want to have to go in you know, be a waiter or waitress saying we're so that's been a tricky thing for those particular employers. okay. >> anything else that that that is kind of pushing people to leave their jobs? i mean, the being underappreciated, i know it's something that folks that i've know who have quit their jobs. that's kind of a main thing i'm hearing. >> underappreciated and i think people just don't want to do something. they don't like it or, you know, and this this is an opportunity. i think it's more about people reassessing where they are and their employment decisions. and and there's an opportunity for them to change. now, yet with the right planning, of course. but i think there is a
9:50 am
great heights, a great time to be looking for a job or getting a new job transitioning to something else that you like better. >> talking about that planning now for those who are looking to change up their lives, how should they prepare their finances? because i know leaving your job means you might have a cash flow issue while you move into that next phase before you find something new right? >> yeah, that's right. i think everyone has this idea of quitting right your boss. i'm out of here. but we recommend doing some planning first. it first starts with cash flow. so you want to make sure you do a deep dive into your expense. planning. really? take a look at how much you're spending, what you absolutely have to spend on a monthly basis because the key here is that you're going to have some some lag time, right? you leave your job. you find a new job. there's a period of time when you're not making money. there might be lag and pay ripple actually received that first paycheck. so you want to have a really, really good idea on income and expenses and that really leads into the second idea. other emergency savings you want to build your
9:51 am
emergency savings up to at least fun to where you think you're going to need to fund a your expenses without having a job, you know, to 6 months, but maybe even more are depending on the type of job you're looking for. >> when it comes to that emergency think that's something we should do no matter what, right. how much should you be putting into your emergency sdvings on say a monthly basis? >> yes, we're about total amount. so we look at it more about monthly expenses or your total fixed in discretionary monthly expenses. 3 to 6 months of expenses saved in a savings account like meeting regularly available caps is a good place to start. now, if you're thinking about leaving your job, you want to up that right? you could have an emergency and you can also be right in the middle of transitioning to a new job and that can create some problems. see, really want to think about that and maybe even build that up fast as you can. if you're you know, going to yeah, plan on quitting
9:52 am
>> retirement schedule. talk to me about that. what you need to know before you quit your job when it comes to if you're obviously already planning for retirement. >> yeah. this actually one of the biggest things we've big problems we've seen with people quitting their jobs in the office and people come and ask us this question all the time and what around profit sharing stock options, restricted stock units, right? if you have based or vesting based employee benefit package part of your retirement plan, as you might get a share profit at the end of the year. well, most of that is subject to a vesting schedule. so you want to dig into you're vesting schedule and make sure that you're not winning like right before your employment employment anniversary, where you could have gotten another vesting period completed that could result in, you know, tons of money, 40%, more dollars in your retirement savings. if you just wait a few more weeks to euro anniversary date. good to now get snow and finally not taking on any more debt.
9:53 am
>> yeah, you know this is a tricky one. i think if you if you try to plan, you know, you don't save enough. you have to take on more debt. it's kind of that worst case scenario. >> we try to avoid that at all. costs. i will say if you do have debt maybe you accumulate some debt, what you're right, you're looking for a new job. call up creditors. they might actually give you some some leeway that they we found that because obviously your transition to a new job. i don't let you defer a few payments. so that's a good thing. another quick 0, 2, we had client. she quit her job recently and she had her email address or work e-mail address on all of her baking accounts and things make sure you have a personal email address because you're not going to able to access that work email address what you quit. so turn into a big headache. so yeah, that ahead of time. all right. good to know. sam, thank you so much >> helping all the folks out there, if they are looking to quit or make a move in
