changes. you are a bay area native. so yes to have. yeah, it feels so good to be back. almost can't believe it. but we have beautiful weather welcoming her back this week. it's a little cloudy this morning, though, dave sphar as got. >> check of your weather forecast for the rest of this weekend morning day. hey, good morning, ladies. good morning, everybody. and we're also dealing with some winds will be on the lookout for all this weekend >> shot for right now over the east bay shoreline. just a little bit of that haze to get things started. probably tomorrow will be treated to a few little scattered clouds kind of thrown in there. but temperatures are going to be reduced as we head on into next week, particularly in the winds kind of indicate there's a change of the guard going on here. that's way, way upstream in the upper left-hand side of your screen for the weekend plans. saturday looks dandy. lots of sunshine got the temperatures as they have been sunday will be a transition day. hence the winds. 40's going on for a good chunk of the bay. you can see 50 from a bottle. 55, meanwhile, for antioch in concord right there around the carquinez strait numbers, a little bit warmer

for comparison. you can see some cooler spots compared to 24 hours ago will make up for that this afternoon. but the wind concern, solano county, you're in that red flag warning everybody else in the higher elevations, north bay east bay pe to can the higher elevations are treated to a wind advisory. again, that will get to tomorrow afternoon. the winds really won't be kicking in here until we get to tonight. however, current wind you can see are in the single digits for pop in double digits in some locations. san francisco, for example, is a 10. but again, most readings are single digits for now. 66 at 11 by 2. 75. so it's a nice, sunny day for your saturday. again, changing for later today. tonight. tomorrow we'll walk you through those winds in the areas to look out for. coming up in just a bit. well, and 70. thank dave. >> all right. a police investigation all rather a former teacher at an east bay. a high school is accused of molesting students that that we know of. she's now in police custody. and it turns out that she's not the first teacher at the school to face

abuse charges. that's right. with bail set at almost 2 million dollars she's facing. 29 counts. >> of child molestation. gayle ong has the story. >> 35 year old nsa gower, a biology teacher is facing 29 counts of child molestation contra costa county. prosecutors say gower engage in numerous acts of nature with minors between 2021 to 2022. richmond, police say her victims were 7 high school boys ages 15 to 17 at making waves academy. a charter school in richmond were gower has talks in april of last year. police say 2 of the students came forward to school administrators in mid february. school officials contacted police during the investigation, detectives found more victims and say some alleged acts happened on school property. in a statement to kron 4, the ceo of making waves academy reads in part, there is nothing more than the health safety and well-being of our students. that teacher is no longer employed by making waves academy. and we have reached

out to parents, students and faculty to provide support with might be needed. it's not the first time making ways academy has faced allegations of abuse. ronald goingto is serving a 931 year sentence after being convicted of molesting 15 boys at the school going to win a youth program at making waves academy from 2011 to 2013. the school agreed to pay nearly 11 million dollars to the victims to settle a lawsuit in the current case, gower is being held at the martinez detention facility and almost 2 million dollars bail. gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> fremont police are looking for these 2 men on your screen there. they say that these 2 men burglarized a walmart in this happened on march 23rd at the walmart on calvary street near stevenson boulevard. police say the men started the fire in the automotive section. if you know anything about this case, please call police. and in oakland, the search is on for a gunman who police say shot someone on

hillside street. it happened just before 7 last night. the victim is in the hospital and recovering this morning. you can expect to see more officers on patrol this weekend in oakland. the department says it's all in response to the recent crimes they've seen so far in the city. and they say that there's already been 33 homicides this year in oakland so far the additional officers will be focused on responding to violent crimes and stopping illegal sideshows. >> a masked gunman shot a 17 year-old girl in san francisco. it happened yesterday afternoon on keystone road. that's in the hunters point area. the girl was taken to a local hospital ng injuries. police do not have any details on the shooter at this time. meanwhile, the search continues in oakland for an 85 year-old man. he's been missing since tuesday. >> and he suffers from crew conducted an aerial search yesterday for him. kron four's

>> welcome back. 7.10, on this saturday morning. a new ballot measure could help address the housing crisis in san francisco. it's called affordable homes. now the measure would speed up home approvals from an average of 4 years to just between 6 and 9 months. mayor london breed and several pro housing advocates are hoping expediting approval windows will lower the cost of housing. the advocates and the mayor will host an event later this morning to kick off their campaign. they need to collect 52,000 signatures on this by july. 11th in order for it to get on the november ballot, the event today is going to be held at the mckinley statue in on fell street. it starts at 10 o'clock this morning. well, could we soon be saying farewell to the five-day workweek? that sounds pretty nice. and there's a new bill making its way through the state legislature that would do exactly that. if passed the work week would go from 40 hours to 32. >> and anything over 32 hours would be considered overtime

department is asking residents to hold off on any open burning this weekend. now this is because of high wind warnings. the suspension is now in effect until 8 monday morning. it includes agricultural and controlled burning as well as fire pit or outdoor stove burning marin county's fire chief is also warning of possible widespread power outages. yikes. so we know it's been really warm out with those wind warnings, the warmth and the way, and that doesn't really mix too well to after we don't worry about the wildfires. potential wildfire. exactly. even though it's kind of early for technically wildfire season. but they say nowadays. >> we've got like wildfire year basically. yeah, we're right out the last couple of months. so that's why this is a little out of season could yeah, a red flag warning. it's a relief for solano county, but everybody's going to be treated to some winds. >> they're fall-like winds on balance for the getting started a little bit offshore. so that's a little kind of thing we want to watch out for a little bit. that's what we've got going on for this weekend as we make the transition to more of like a fall like feel half moon bay,

not a bad start. your saturday is going to be pretty much business as usual outside of some of those winds working here. we've got warm temperatures, lots of sunshine, all of that sunday. things start flipping on a snow upstream. that's where the education is going. take a while to get here. temperature check for you. we've got the 40's around the perimeter of the bay inland. we still holding on to some 50's 57 antioch concord. again, up north, 50 for bottle. but most readings into the 40's future cast for keeps us clear all day today. so more or less an eventful may be able to start 40 past the saturday because it looks pretty good there. now, sunday, it's noting some variable clouds here at the throw in the mix, but you'll still see quite a bit of sunshine with all of that waiting for that first rain shoe to fall. that looks to be on monday. but this is coming with winds. that could be the bigger feature. most people are going to notice jumping to that. notice. the arrows are pointing off shore up the solano county. so that's the area that pops first and the most consistent across the o% sacramento valley and such. then we get later in the forecast period. they flip more on shore and you'll feel

the temperature drop associated with all of that. this takes us up to sunday about 10 and again. notice how san francisco southern marin down the peninsula, how those numbers are kind of popping quite a bit. there were well in the distance of the 20's and the 30's. so with all of that being said, solano county, you're looking at a fire weather. i'm sorry. i red flag warning covering the whole county. that will be until 5 on sunday. now let's get to that humidity. part of the forecast here we go through the day today and they do drop off quite a bit. this is why the alarm bells are going off and solano county here and parts of contra costa county as well to the east over the east bay hills, getting quite dry there, even though you're not technically in the red flag warning, then the recovery tonight, not bad around the immediate bay. we're getting that marine layer checking in again and then a little drying out for sunday afternoon. yeah, into the teens. however, by tomorrow night war, it's a different program. then we're back to autumn and a lot of humidity here. and with that comes some rain. high temperatures today. feast your eyes, upper 70's, lots of

friday, alameda county district attorney nancy o'malley. >> cleared all 3 officers involved of all criminal wrongdoing in gonzalez is death. a report released by the da's office says gonzalez became unresponsive after 3 minutes. and 39 seconds of officers restraining and pinning him to the ground. sherry translated when i asked his mother what it's like being without her oldest son. >> mario, a lot of added weight on her shoulders. he says she misses her son. >> and now she's taking on a lot of his responsibilities like helping to care for his young son, her grandson, jerry says he misses the little things about his big brother. >> kraken, joe says mask having a good time. just one looking out for their attorney adante pointer says the family is not giving up. the family intends to continue. >> the demand that the district attorney, the

attorney general, you need part the justice do right by this family. and probably want for committing homicide. he says they filed a civil suit against the officers. >> district attorney o'malley issued a statement offering condolences to can solve his family. she says she and her team have reviewed the case and quote, after a thorough, extensive, an independent investigation by my office, the evidence does not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers broke any laws. amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> a man is accused of running over a 61 year-old with a minivan in oakland's chinatown. police identified the suspect as 41 year-old kevin mack just last month, kron 4 obtained this surveillance video of the victim. she whole long getting hit by a car. police say long's head hit the ground causing major brain damage, which she died from a week

later that is now being held without bail at the santa rita county jail in dublin. and we're following the college admissions scandal. a former school administrator is getting prison time and a decorated coach at usc is found guilty of a string of charges. a jury convicted former florida prep teacher mark riddell for taking college entrance exams on behalf of wealthy students. he will serve a 4 month sentence and pay more than $230,000 in fines. a jury also found former usc water pump water polo coach jovan vivek guilty of fraud and bribery. prosecutors say that they've got $250,000 in bribes so far, investigators say nearly 60 parents, coaches and administrators at top schools were involved in the admissions scandal. still ahead here on the kron, 4 morning news, black voters calling on president biden to come through on his promises. we've got more on the

lynn here. she says this is her first day on set were so happy to have her and she's going to be doing the weekends of from now on starting tomorrow. yes, thrilled to be here. thanks so much for showing me the ropes and get me comfortable around the desk. we're doing what we can. dave spahr as always a helpful hand as well. he's got all of our details on the weather forecast today. it's looking a little cloudy, but i'm also seeing sun. so what we've got back, lots of sun for saturday. we're going to change seasons on you by early next week is going to feel like fall again and a couple opportunities for rain showers next week. so that's good news on that first cross. however, things have been so dry. that's what the red flag warning is all about. with some winds were dealing with his half moon bay. beautiful shot. expect a lot of sunshine today. but the problem areas, the red flag warning solano county and even though conditions will be dry east to the east bay hills. watching out for those winds to we do have a wind advisory posted for the higher elevations east bay. also up in the north bay, too. and that also goes into tomorrow afternoon. >> evening on the lookout for that. stormtracker 4 doesn't

>> i mean, this person responsible for the deaths of 2 people in a that were in the crosswalk and not only the strike that he also fled. >> the search is on for a suspected hit and run driver who killed 2 women and san jose. the women were hit thursday night in the area of ocala avenue and oakton court. police say a mother and her daughter were in the crosswalk when a red pickup truck hit them and then drove off and take a good look at your screen right now. san jose police released this picture of a red four-door pickup truck that they believe hit the women. they are asking for the public's help in finding the truck and the man driving it. this morning. neighbors in that area of the accident are demanding that more action be taken to make those roads safer. one woman set up a memorial for the 2 women who were killed. she says she often saw them together. >> every day, i mean, they would come out and

>> take a stroll in the evening. usually with their family members are in or out. and about almost every day and it still happens. people still raced down the they really pay no mind to pedestrians at all. >> this deadly accident marked san jose's 13th and 14th pedestrian fatalities so far this year. >> san jose city leaders say they are working on solutions to stop the rising number of traffic our road safety has been a huge problem there with the city on track to break records. >> for the number of deaths kron four's. dan thorn has details. >> the 2 women that were killed here thursday night along ocala avenue are now part of 26 people who have died in traffic collisions. so far this year. san jose's vision, 0 task force is trying to find ways to curb this problem, which appears to be getting worse by the day. >> pedestrians, cyclists and drivers make up the more than 2 dozen people who have died on san jose streets so far this year, the death count is a huge spike from this time

last year and nearly half of all traffic deaths in the city in 2021, it is alarming. we are >> at a staggering days it that that potentially could double what are our high has , county district. 3 councilmember raul peralez is chair of the vision 0 task force. san jose created the task force in 2015 with the goal of bringing traffic deaths down to 0. the councig q build street projects like installing more rubberized safety bollards and delineate ers in areas deemed dangerous. he also says san jose pd ease traffic enforcement unit needs to be bolstered. we have been woefully understaffed on our traffic enforcement. so it's another piece of the pie and there they are a member stapled or of our vision, 0 task force. this map shows the city's most dangerous roads. speed has been a top factor in deaths. >> san jose mayor sam liccardo was pushed for enforcement cameras to help curb this

problem. but an assembly bill is still being reviewed in sacramento. we're going in the wrong direction. and at the alarming rate, we have all hands on deck and we will continue to work until we can actually drive numbers down. the vision 0 task force is seeking community input on preventing traffic deaths here in san jose. >> a town hall is scheduled to take place at city hall on may. 7th. we're putting in san jose. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> san jose mayor sam ricardo is also laying out a plan to reduce violent crime in his city. the san jose police department looked at their arrest data over a 14 month period. they found there were at least 30 people arrested at least 10 times each one of those people was arrested nearly 20 times. mayor liccardo said the data appears to show a revolving door for violent offenders adding policies that reduce crowding in jails during the pandemic have to change. >> as many as half. the

pretrial detainees who are being released. we their family to appear committing a new crime, otherwise violating the terms of their release. that can't be good for anyone in the community. if they're not showing up in court, there's a good probability. they're they're no good. >> other parts of the mayor's plan includes fighting meth, use in the community and cutting down on small business burglaries. >> on the peninsula, man is dead after a head-on crash on highway 92. officers say a woman was driving eastbound on friday when she veered into the westbound lane and crashed into another car. the driver of that car died. the woman was hospitalized with some major injuries highway 92 was temporarily closed from 2.80, to lower highway. 35, but it has since reopened. coming up here on the kron 4 morning news. the academy has laid out their punishment. >> for will smith. we've got details on what it includes

ong has the details. >> 35 year old nsa gower, a biology teacher is facing 29 counts of child molestation contra costa county. prosecutors say gower engage in numerous acts of nature with minors between 2021 to 2022. richmond, police say her victims were 7 high school boys ages 15 to 17 at making waves academy, a charter school in richmond where gower has talks in april of last year. police say 2 of the students came forward to school administrators in mid february. school officials contacted police during the investigation, detectives found more victims and say some alleged acts happened on school property. in a statement to kron 4, the ceo of making waves academy reads in part, there is nothing more than the health safety and well-being of our students. that teacher is no longer employed by making waves academy. and we have reached out to parents, students and faculty to provide support with might be needed. it's not the first time making ways academy has faced allegations of abuse. ronald goingto is

promises of gas relief, money for californians is now on pause temporarily. the governor and state lawmakers went on a break without reaching a deal. kron four's ashley zavala explains the status of those proposed plans. >> for the legislature to say no, we're going to continue to keep california's gas prices higher than any other state. and then we're going to go on vacation. i think that it shows just how out of touch people here are assemblyman. kevin kiley says he's not giving up his push to suspend the state's gas tax even as the governor and legislature take off for spring break course, gas tax holiday bill 2 weeks ago was verbally got it and changed in the assembly. transportation committee. >> democrats there made it into a proposed new tax on gas companies to pass extra profits on to consumers to start. but those changes were never put into writing. and this week assembly democrats voted to erase their attempt to change it from the legislative record. kylie's gas tax holiday bill is still alive as states like new york and connecticut move to

suspend their gas tax is indeed we are going to be continuing to push for that to be enacted as quickly as possible. so california's get some relief. i mean, people are really struggling right now. meanwhile, democratic assembly member county petri norris officially put her proposal in writing to give $400 to all californians to pay income tax in the state. and while supporters announced it in a way to offset the rising price of gas, the word gas is nowhere to be found in the bill ab 16, 16. instead it uses the governor's covid pandemic state of emergency to tap into the california emergency relief fund to send out the money doing so will require a two-thirds vote in the legislature. other efforts include a proposal from legislative leaders to send payments based on income. another is the governor's push to send up to $800 debit cards to california car owners. both of those could be considered and state budget negotiations which won't be finalized until the end of june. before going on break, newsome said he's prepared to work with lawmakers on a also very resolved. >> get money back in the

the success of the biden administration's covid-19 vaccination campaign into some concrete numbers. according to the commonwealth fund, the government's efforts to get people vaccinated has saved 2.2 million american lives. the study also finds that 17 million hospitalizations were prevented as we're 66 million covid cases. all of this. the report says avoided 900 billion dollars in health care costs. the white house made a plea to congress not to let up funding. now. californians, meanwhile, who have been exposed to covid but have no symptoms no longer have to go into quarantine. the state guidance is now in line with the cdc's latest recommendation. things are easing since covid incubation period is shrinking now averaging just 2 to 3 days instead of what used to be that 5 to 7. also, people who have tested positive in the last 90 days do not need to test quarantine or miss work

obtained this surveillance video of the victim. she whole long getting hit by a car. police say long's head hit the ground causing major brain damage, which he later died from a week. about a week later. mack is now being held without bail at the santa rita county jail in dublin. we're also following the college admissions scandal. a former school administrator is getting prison time and a decorated coach at usc is found guilty of a string of charges. a jury convicted former florida prep teacher mark riddell for taking college entrance exams on behalf of wealthy students. he will serve a 4 month sentence and pay more than $230,000 in fines. a jury also found former usc water polo coach jovan vivek guilty of fraud and bribery. prosecutors say they they've got $250,000 in bribes. so far, investigators say nearly 60 parents, coaches and administrators at top schools were involved in the admissions scandal.

stop the rising number of traffic deaths. >> road safety or will take it over to, you know, i'll get road safety has been a huge problem with the city on track to break records for the number of deaths. kron four's. dan thorn has the details. >> the 2 women that were killed here thursday night along ocala avenue are now part of 26 people who have died in traffic collisions. so far this year. san jose's vision, 0 task force is trying to find ways to curb this problem, which appears to be getting worse by the day. >> pedestrians, cyclists and drivers make up the more than 2 dozen people who have died on san jose streets so far this year, the death count is a huge spike from this time last year and nearly half of all traffic deaths in the city in 2021, it is alarming. we are >> at a staggering days it that that potentially could double what are our high has been, which is 60 traffic district. 3 council member role per ali's is chair of the vision 0 task force. san jose

firefighters in crockett are responding to this grass fire near the carquinez bridge. >> this is video just into the kron. 4 news room. the fire has grown to 2 acres. fire officials say this fire is burning just 100 yards from homes. this is happening along eastbound. i-80 near the carquinez bridge again toll plaza. this is affecting
