7:03 am
this is going to be quite a while until this is cleaned up. but here's a look of at the scene from yesterday. it happened around 6 in the afternoon and firefighters were able to get it under control late last night. now the home depot is located at a plaza here in south san jose where there's plenty of shops and restaurants. crews did have to evacuate a local veterinary hospital nearby and all of garden employees says that he wasn't evil, even able to make it to work because of how bad the fire got. >> as our called garden right down here and i was driving down the street. i was driving down the street and i heard like really loud explosions from by home depot and out. it was kind of weird. and i saw a bunch of people workers like running out everyone in panic. and i kind of where so then once i part a saw the home depot going into flames and i'm going to work. and they like the cocking out the flames got worst. lot of like those smoke was really dark. but all of a sudden i noticed a bunch of firefighters and police like rushing down here.
7:04 am
>> now, as of this morning, a shelter-in-place order is still in place for residents in lisa drive area because of the smoke. fire crews say the air quality is unhealthy and they're going to be reevaluating that some time this morning. and at this time, investigators are still trying to figure out what led to this fire. now, stephanie, i did see some home depot employees here earlier this morning. and one of the managers tells me that the fire destroyed the home depot. he also says that the lumber inside the store inside the store, made it even worse. and he says that they're not going to be opening today. it's unclear when they will be opening, but by the looks of the damage done over here and it looks like it looks like it will take some time for them to reopen. stephanie, back to you. thanks, camila for staying on top of that story for us. >> we're also tracking the

movement. meantime, of another massive structure fire this morning. this one happening in the north bay. this is in benicia. the fire started at around noon on saturday near bayshore road close to the m port stocks. firefighters say the fire is not a threat to people at this time, but they are trying to keep those flames away from hazardous materials in the area. benicia mayor steve young says the current location of the fire is making it pretty hard to put out. he told kron 4 that he believes that the fire will still be burning today and possibly through tomorrow. fire officials also tell us that wind conditions are in their favor, but if the wind does shift, the city is prepared to in order to shelter in place. there is now word right now about what started that fire want to learn a little bit more from that from deputy city manager mario giuliani is joining us live right now to talk about the latest developments on the fire this morning. good morning, mario. >> good morning, stephanie.
7:06 am
and and to be clear, we still excuse me for the workforce. to be clear, we still don't know what started the fire. that investigation will i continue once this incident is concluded, we've made great progress for the night. thanks to southern marin. fire 2 were on fire in san francisco. fire goes it was jobs dousing the dark side to reduce that fire. they're now remains about 3 small pockets that continue to burn on the docks. the challenge for firefighter crews is removing the asphalt material on top of the dock. to reach the timber so that we douse those flames and put it out and we anticipate the fire to continue to burn throughout the day. >> camera, a follow-up question to that. as you mentioned, that there's no cause that you found behind this fire at this point. however, i have read some reports online that seem to suggest that there was some barrels or silos of petroleum that might have been found that could have started this fire. can you confirm that?
7:07 am
>> i cannot confirm we have no official reports as to the cause of the fire that's ongoing and will continue to investigate well beyond this incident got and could you speak to the extent of the damage at this time, mom? and is there a public safety message for residents living in the area? >> well, the damages is certainly concerning. this is a report of any show that facilitate operations for imports and the finish of where refinery. and so both of those will be impacted. to the extent that remains to be seen. staff has already both those organizations and we're prepared to me, but i believe basis to working on operation will need to moving forward as a release, a public health and safety. there's very little smoke and the only thing visible not now looks like steam. so there's no my concern for public health. even yesterday we have monitors on site throughout the day taking measurements for air particles. nothing
7:08 am
register. so we were monitoring. this is a situation inter day. so i would encourage our residents in the local area to continue to look at the benicia city website and you know some page as well as following our social media accounts for updates. we intend to probably provide a final update around noon, providing the community, the status of this incident. and then we assume this will fire him go out some time later today or early tomorrow. okay. glad to know that. there's a little bit more of a timeline, a hard time, one >> that people can expect now. and just a lot a last quick question here. what sort of challenges are firefighters up against at this time? >> right now really is it still looks like a public works project. we actually the 2 trip group is on site with a large train. so if anyone is traveling across the benicia bridge, you're going to see a a large piece of equipment and they're working to build or actually take a trench to that asphalt to allow firefighters access to the timber and they
7:09 am
will continue to dig that trench until we get to timber. that has not burned and they can essentially build that firewall in there and stop the fire from progressing. okay. very good. >> well, that's a deputy city manager, mario giuliani. thank you so much for joining us on our program this morning. and we look forward to your noon update later today. thank you, stephanie. all right. moving on to our next story. now, friends and family mourn the loss of a man shot in oakland. >> why they're calling his murder a senseless act of violence.

>> welcome back. time to check in with dave sphar that we know the wind conditions have been a big concern for firefighters. how are conditions looking out there today? weather still actually have an onshore wind right there at the carquinez strait, strangely enough. but they still have that to red flag warning that's in place all day today until 3. that's we're watching this stuff to go and live shot of the east bay shoreline, a little bit of haze, we see a little bit inland actually going on. but it essentially mostly sunny with some few scattered clouds. >> all the juicy stuff remains up towards the north that will develop in the overnight for us to get that little opportunity for some rain showers. temperature chance check for us. we're at 54 going on for oakland. 47 hayward, mixed bag of 40's and 50's off to the east. 42 santa rosa. 53 for san francisco.

heading over to future cast for again. just a few little scattered clouds going on for today. then tonight, things start to develop. here's that look for subtle shot of rain developing. this will be in the predawn hours and then spreading out through the morning already by midday. that should clear out somewhat temporary. it's not completely done yet. mountain snows will be added to that. so that's a good thing. back to the winds now, generally speaking, what we're seeing from the wind profiles is a good storm on shore when local area, however, there's expected to be a flip that will be onshore for everybody. by the time we get to around 5 o'clock and that will carry us overnight covering the peninsula up to the north bay in the east bay as well. don't forget down the higher elevations. they have formally a wind advisory that storm place also for today. they may extend this stuff going forward. i suspect the red flag warning when they won't because of the direction shift. what we may have some more wind statements later on. but the one we've been talking about, the red flag warning that again is with us until 5 today. let's look at the
7:17 am
moisture levels this afternoon. they drop off to the teens. that's kind of a given not as bad actually as yesterday was. and then the quick recovery. we expected with rain coming here. you can see it filling in. we may have to fight some of that virga thing when it starts. but then by the latter portion of the rain event, it will then drop a drop in to us with some scattered showers, maybe enough to kind of dirty up the car with the roads just a little bit. it's not a really heavy rain event. it doesn't look like but upstream. there's more to be had for today. 64 san francisco, oakland, 69 70 for san jose. a little bit of a reduction in terms of those highs that we had from yesterday. there's a look at your highs getting to the middle 70's for the east bay for highs today. stephanie. thank you, dave. >> ukrainian officials say russian missiles targeting a train station killed at least 52 people, including 5 children. the attack left dozens more injured. the station was serving as an evacuation center for people fleeing the country. the russian words for the children
