>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morniny news at 7. >> good morning. thank you for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lynn. >> it's sunday. april 17th, happy easter. we have a lot to get to this morning. let's start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning, david. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and a different type of morning we have today. no rain going on. mostly sunny skies expected, although a chilly start going on. >> and a little bit away. some patchy fog to some of the outlining areas. here's a live shot coming in the east bay shoreline. as you can see, let up very nicely. but we do want to look a little bit upstream. we may be sprayed by some high

cloudiness today. temperatures on balance will be into the 60's for highs today. a little bit of a cool breeze to come with the right as well. now, here are those chilly morning lows we're talking about in the 30's up to the north bay. that's the clear skies action overnight and drying out conditions of the service. 43 san francisco and around the immediate bay. you see a lot of 40's working here to 40 going on for livermore. 45 meanwhile, for antioch temperature change, though, for you. we had a rain event with cloud cover yesterday morning. so that artificially kept temperatures supported a bit almost we're a dozen degrees behind or more than we were from yesterday with the north bay sticking out a little bit more so just briefly, some of that fog in the east bay and some of those valleys put the off the tri valley. you may have some patches of some dense fog. here's the onshore winds in place. other bill bit of breeze thrown into this forecast makes it feel a little cooler. then it would look like 56 by 11 by 2 at 65. now, the good news is upstream. this week have a couple opportunities for rain. showers will be talking about that coming up in a bit.

stephanie, thanks very much, dave. developing news this morning. police are looking for the gunman who shot a man in san jose. >> it happened on the 13,000 block of 5 full avenue around 6 last night. police did not have any description of the shooter yet the victim did suffer life-threatening injuries. we are expecting an update from the san jose police department later today. a shooting left 2 people dead in oakland. it happened early saturday morning. officers responded to the scene on 77th avenue and found one person dead. this is video of that scene from the citizen app shortly afterwards, a second person was dropped off at a hospital where they also died. investigators believe these 2 incidents are related. in the north bay. police continue their search for the gunman who killed a man in toledo. the shooting happened near admiral callaghan lane. police have not released the victim's name but say he was a 21 year-old man from oakland. anyone with information is asked to please get in touch with billy hope. police. new

developments now in the sacramento mass shooting investigation. court documents show that 3 of the people killed were actually involved in the gang dispute that led to the shootout. the sacramento district attorney's office says at least one of the men who died fired a gun. court documents also show that shooting suspects smiley martin and joshua holt who casey posted on social media earlier that day sharing that they wanted to shoot rival gang members. holy casey died during the shooting. smiley remains in police custody. and happening tomorrow, nurses at 12 sutter health facilities across the bay area are going on strike. they're calling for improved health and safety standards. this is video from past strikes. monday's protest is expected to include 8,000 workers across all of northern california. the nurses at sutter health have been in contract negotiations since june of last year. they say

they want to and they want sutter to increase its nursing staff. the strike start around 7 tomorrow morning. among the hospitals affected are oakland, berkeley, santa rosa and san francisco. the golden state warriors are getting ready for game 2 of the nba playoffs. they hold a one-game lead over the denver nuggets in the best of 7 series, steph curry was back in action. he did not start last night, but he came off the bench about halfway through the 1st quarter. he finished with 16 points. klay thompson, meanwhile, made 4 threes in the 1st half. he had 19 points, but the real star was jordan poole who scored 30 points last night. the warriors win by a final of 123 to one. 0, 7, game 2 of the series is set for tomorrow night at 2he chase center. tip off, set for 7 kron four's amanda hari was at chase center talking to fans as she has more on how they felt after the warriors game. one victory.

>> fans were excited here at the chase center after the warriors got a fairly easy win against the denver nuggets. i spoke with some of them about their expectations for the rest of this series. >> and be more happy here. but i think it was amazing and i think we're going nuggets, fans packed the chase center for the first nba playoff game in san francisco since 1964. >> when they're in the playoffs. so, you know, we're chasing hopefully all the way. i think i'm cautiously optimistic warriors fan. alex says it's been a rough season with all of the injuries that things are finally coming together to get the end of the day that the goal is always been to win the championship in. so it's been frustrating at times to watch. and, you know, see the loss pileup at times. but at we're here now in the playoffs. we're hopefully healthy and felt open-wheel bar. i spoke to

20th and church streets. this is video of the ceremony from past years. the fire hydrant in that area will be painted gold. that fire hydrant was key to saving the city's mission district. the 19 0, 6 earthquake was a magnitude quake. more than 3,000 people died and more than 200,000 were left homeless. tomorrow ceremony begins at 5.40, bright and early in the morning. in advance of tomorrow's ceremony, city leaders and first responders gathered for the annual 19. 0, 6, earthquake and fire luncheon. the event had been canceled for the past 2 years due to the pandemic. former mayor willie brown was on hand saturday to honor the men and women of the fire department. >> we every appropriate respect and to who the fire is out and 19. 0, 6. there be no separate go >> a special survivor award

>> welcome back. time now for another check of the weather with meteorologist dave spahr. dave, we had some rain yesterday. can we expect more rain on the this week? but not today, though, we're taking bit of a breather. looks like and it will be coming upstream as early as monday night. will be more success of after that. could morning everybody. happy easter. >> and here's what we're looking at. the east bay shoreline starting to light up a little bit. a few little puppy leftover clouds you can see off towards the distance. it will be sprayed by some high cloudiness today. but most of the traffic in action remains up to the north for your forecast. all right. right now, our temperatures middle to upper 30's going on up here in the north bay. got some cooling going on. 40's off to the east bay. we have clear skies overnight so that radiational cooling factor kicked in. course, we do have a lot of surface moisture. the kind of fought that a little bit. and some leftover patchy fog a little bit. perhaps out

there and try valley just a touch. there are handing it over to future cast for today. an eventful lots of sunshine as we get into monday morning. already encroach. but up here in the north bay will be some variable clouds working here already. and then by nightfall, here comes the rain, not as impressive as the bout that we just had from yesterday were during the overnight from friday into saturday, as you can see, kind of repeats that type of pattern, although it may be actually quicker to clear on monday, then we saw from this weekend and then wednesday we taking a little breather until the next week gets here. the polish off the rest of the week winds. we get the daytime heating all day and some of them start to pick up a little bit into the 20's particular there around the carquinez strait a little bit in some of those valleys up in the north bay. a bit will pick up some of those onshore winds that will be day time heating, even though will be fairly cool, will stay in the 60's, even in those inland spots here. so for today, mostly sunny, cool, breezy 60's near 70 well in london this week we've got sun

response to the lungs keys. please. this week, the biden administration okayed another 800 million dollars in aid to help ukraine's military fight back. the package includes an additional 11 in my 17 helicopters, 500 javelin missiles, 300 switchblade drones and 100 armored humvees in washington, raquel martin. >> the war in ukraine is giving the u.s. military insight on how to handle future conflicts with russia. army secretary christine warm it says one major lesson already learned is how to find information warfare on the internet. the army is now doing scenario exercises at fort irwin in california. our troops are learning how to respond to specific russian attacks already used so far in the invasion of ukraine, which includes the spread of false news and propaganda online. and take a look at this massive backup of trucks carrying said humanitarian supplies at the border between ukraine and poland. that line

stretched for about a mile and a half. the goal was to get much needed relief to those fleeing war by easter time. there were reports of several trucks and cars waiting for more than 2 days to cross the border. most of the cars had ukrainian and polish plates. one driver said police were trying to manage and control traffic flow by prioritizing cars over large trucks. first responders in the south bay stepped up to get some much needed support to their counterparts in ukraine. the san jose firefighters union held a fundraiser on saturday as kron four's believe juggle reports the money collected will help relief efforts during the russian invasion. >> i mean, this is a. >> you know, terrorism at its finest. marian lava was born and raised in ukraine. he moved to the states when he was 9 years old and has served as a firefighter with the san jose fire department for 7 years. he says it means the

world to him that his union, san jose firefighters, local to 30 chose to host a fundraiser at the brit sports pub and patio saturday. the percentage of food beverage and raffle proceeds going to help. ukrainian first responder put their lives on the front line like we do here. you pretty severe circumstances that out to do toes of ukrainian firefighters in action are displayed inside the brit. the venue open 2 hours early to host the event which raised more than $5,000. that much money will be able to get a lot of medical you know, it. >> get everything that they can do this to support the citizens that they're rescuing out collins lives in the bay area now but was also born and raised in ukraine. she stopped by with her family support fund raiser and her family overseas living through the russian invasion. there's too

hours, the giants will go for the sweep over the cleveland guardians. >> giants fans came out in cleveland to support their team in the second game of the series in the 5th inning with the giants down by one brandon belt comes through with the bases loaded. he singles up the middle 2 runs score and the giants takes the lead. then in the 8th inning with the game tied at 2, wilmer flores hits a ground ball to second. the indians try to turn a double play. but flores beats the throw that gives the giants the lead. san francisco goes into when we're on to win by a final of 42 game. 3 of the series is later this

morning. first pitch is set for 10, 40 in cleveland. and this morning the oakland a's will try to pick up the series victory against the toronto blue jays before the game. yesterday, matt chapman received the gold glove. he won while playing for oakland last season. he also home to his former team. the game was tied in the 9th inning when the a's take the lead with a 2 run home run. oakland went on to win by a final of 75. the 2 teams will play the final game of the series at 10, 30 this morning. and for your money this morning, the cost of airplane tickets is up 20% compared to prepandemic levels. this comes as travel. experts say they've seen an increase in americans making plans for a spring or summer vacation according to tally a cryptic red card payment app, inflation and record high gas prices have not done much to change americans. appetites for going out and having a good time credit card spending on travel jumped 22% in march.

we'll take a look at this. a fire crew in san mateo county rescued this little guy. they responded to reports of this. doug ling stuck in a storm drain. and when they arrived, firefighters also found the birds brothers and sisters rescuing a total of 9 ducklings. firefighters managed to get all the animals out safely and reunite them with mom. so good news there. mama duck did wait nervously by the drain the entire time the rescue took place and after all is said and done the reunited family, as you can see their wild off happily. well, that's some nice news for this morning. coming up next on the kron, 4 morning news, a brazen thief fills his bag with items from the bay area drugstore. you can see that right there. any walk straight out. >> the moment all caught on camera.

easter service returns in person to grace cathedral in san francisco because of the covid pandemic. previous services had to be held virtually kron four's. camila barco is live in san francisco now speaking with church officials and camilla. this moment must feel pretty significant for everyone there. pretty significant for churches across the country. today marks the first day for >> many people across the country as they return to in-person services. on the date of easter. and with me, i have malcolm young to talk about today and i mean, normal, you guys have hundreds and hundreds of people during easter service. key talk about before the pandemic. how many people would attend a service? yeah, we we would usually have 2000 people here in the cathedral. and when that number of people are here, just like the energy. >> you know that the intercom that sociologist talk about collective effervescence and

feeling that you have when you have 2000 people in this church, it's amazing. and just to make it clear, that is just for one service. that's exactly right. so we do in that can keep coming again and again and again. the service has kind of different feel to it. so so we we we've had such happy days on easter week here in this place. and you like i said, you guys have not had an easter service sent 2019 it in person. >> today, will you guys be strict re be like scaling back on the amount of people that are coming here today? you know, we we haven't had a surf, isn't that long? but we have a still have our health and our health practices in we've requiring vaccinations since august of this year. and vaccinated. they're wearing y pretty confident we can do this. >> but it you know, it's such a contrast from, you know, when we're in pandemic, it was just it was me and a camera standing in the but like the last weeks and in this week to have everybody here is just so

in san francisco, stores. but this was the first time you see me at in-person at a cvs pill, too. it's fairly calm. situational like the employees. the other employee was just checking to one out. >> when the customers were just standing there in line like. a foot away from this person, this case that started recording on his cell phone. he says it happened thursday just before 2.45. in the afternoon are just backed up a little bit a little through like it's going to be over he's over there taking batteries and taking his time, deciding what drink to and then just walking >> as for the employees, staying calm, experts say many retailers have a no change policy that instruct employees to not attempt to stop a shoplifter. it's not uncommon to see people stealing. many of the acts have been caught on camera and some of the thieves have been caught just last week. san francisco district attorney chesa boudin announced 2 people have been convicted for stealing from walgreens stores in the city

widely available. >> so really just get together and celebrate in person. thanks so much, camilla. now to some developing news this morning. police are looking for the gunman who shot a man in san jose. it happened on the 1300 block of 5 full avenue around 6 last night. police do not have any description of the shooter. the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. we are expecting an update from the san jose police department later today. a shooting left 2 people dead in oakland. it happened early saturday morning. officers responded to the scene on 77th avenue and found one person dead. this is video of the scene from the citizen app shortly after a second person was dropped off at a hospital where they also died. investigators believe these 2 incidents are related. in the north bay. police continue their search for the gunman who killed a man in vallejo. the shooting happened near admirable. add admiral, tell again lane excuse me. police have not released the victim's name but say he was a 21 year-old man from oakland.

anyone with information is asked to get in touch with delay, hope police. new developments in the sacramento mass shooting investigation. court documents show 3 of the people killed were actually involved in the gang dispute that led to the shootout. the sacramento district attorney's office says at least one of the men who fired or rather who died fired a gun court documents also show that shooting suspects smiley martin and joshua hoyland casey posted on social media earlier that day sharing they wanted to shoot rival gang members. hoy casey died during the shooting. smiley remains in police custody. happening tomorrow, nurses at 12 sutter health facilities across the bay area are going on strike. they're calling for improved health and safety standards. this is video from past strikes. monday's protest is expected to include 8,000 workers across all of northern california. the nurses at

asking them leave even the cave. it has seen videos like this before. people shoplifting in san francisco, stores. but this was the first time the act in person at a cvs in dot hill, who is fairly calm, situational like the employees. the other employee was just checking someone out. >> when the customers were just standing there in line like. a foot away from this person, just can't that started recording on his cell phone. he says it happened thursday just before 2.45. in the afternoon are just backed up a little bit a little through like it's going to be over he's over there taking batteries and taking his time deciding what drink to and then just walking >> as for the employees, staying calm, experts say many retailers have a no change policy that instruct employees to not attempt to stop a shoplifter. it's not uncommon to see people stealing. many of the acts have been caught on camera and some of the thieves have been caught just last week. san francisco

district attorney chesa boudin announced 2 people have been convicted for stealing from walgreens stores in the city last year. this cave but worries that that that's keep happening. neighborhoods will be left without a pharmacy. seems like they're not going to be a cvs there. >> for very much longer because it's just it's probably an everyday thing like, okay. we've got to move these items, locked these. i don't know. look, he's kron. 4 reached out to cbs about this incident. a spokesperson told us to contact san francisco police. >> a public information officer with sfpd is unable to comment by the time of the broadcast. gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> breaking news from overnight. 2 kids are dead after being shot in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. it happened just after midnight during a house party at a short term rental property. this is video from the scene this morning. 200 people were inside that house at the time of the shooting. and we know 9 other people were injured, trying to run away. police say as many as 50 shots were fired inside that home and several more were fired outside.

>> we have an update on that little mountain lion cub that was rescued and turned over to the oakland zoo. well, she's hanging in there the first few days when she arrived at the zoo, she was recovering well. but then zoo officials said that they were worried about recently. they've said that she's not eating. but luckily after some we found or they've told us that it was just dehydration. they put her back on some iv fluids and hopefully she's back on the mend. we wish her a full recovery. alright, easter is today and it's not just the kids enjoying a kuntz and other treats for the holiday. the animals are celebrating too at perth zoo in western australia. the otters, as you can see there, there's tigers, easter themed snacks lucky that treat them well out there. the zoo said the otters forage for bright fishy, ice blocks before devouring hard boiled eggs. and the bears

pandemic. previous services had to be held virtually kron four's. camila barco is live in san francisco speaking with church officials and camila this moment must feel really special and significant for everyone there. >> very special indeed, stephanie, of spoken to several churchgoers already. and they tell me for the past few years they've been watching services online. but today that changes because the cathedral has open their doors for it. the first in-person easter service one e 9.18. like i said, i spoke to a lot of churchgoers and they say they are very excited and happy to be here in person. i spoke to dean malcolm young, who tells me that normally before the pandemic, there are about 2000 people would tend just one easter service. there are already hundreds in side as the first service begins today. now they weren't able

to host an in-person easter service last year because they began hosting their in person services in may. now leaders have also been taking precautions against covid. they have been requiring masks and proof of vaccination and they are also requiring that today if you attend any of those services, they also say that people can pre-register if they decide ted and stepping, like i said, i did speak to some churchgoers earlier. i did speak to one woman who says that she hasn't been to any in-person services since the pandemic started. and what makes him special today is not only is it easter sunday is 95th birthday. so like you said, a very special day indeed. >> happy birthday to her. and it's nice that with vaccines more widely available, people can now feel safer. gathering together. this easter. thank you. camila. all right. happening tomorrow and nurses at 12 sutter health facilities across the bay area are going on strike. they are calling for improved health and safety

us that right now rosie the cub is hanging in there. she was found starving and dehydrated. and the first few days after coming to the zoo, she was recovering well. but then zoo officials said that they were worried that she wasn't eating enough after some tests. they say it turns out it was just the hydration after putting rosie back on some iv fluids. do officials tell us as she is now back on the slow mend? and of course, we wish her fast and speedy recovery. an easter is today and it's not just kids enjoying egg hunts and other treats for the holiday. animals are also celebrating too at perth zoo in western australia. otters bears, tigers, dingoes and monkeys gobbled up some easter themed snacks. the zoo said that the our daughters forage for some bright fishy, ice blocks before devouring some hard boiled eggs. yeah, they're having a good time out there. you can see the bear also enjoying itself. they enjoyed some boiled eggs. peanut butter smears and delicious chicken. a truly excellent day
