>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lynn, we have a lot to get it for you this morning. but let's start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning, dave. hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and this morning were treated to a little bit the way of some fog hanging around the bay. as you can see, just a little layer there on the east bay shoreline. >> take a couple hours to kind of mix south. it will be worth it as we have a nice spring day up ahead for your sunday and carrying us into monday as well. >> looking at that fog cast, by the way, it is focused a little bit on the coast on the east bay shoreline. it is filling into some of the

valleys in the east bay just a bit. but again, we add a few more hours a day time heating and it just evaporates away and everybody goes in the sunny mode. now upstream, we are waiting kind of a weak front to drop south. that's really big claim to fame will be a a temperature correction, but not much the play of any rain. maybe some sprinkles along the coast. 40's on the board. for the most part, we have some lower 50's east bay shoreline up to 55 per antioch. 49 going on for san jose. this is a little warmer than we had from yesterday and that's with the complement of clear skies. quick check of the winds. we do see them a little onshore at the coast, but they're kind of variable for now. once we get that inland, daytime heating, we'll see a little bit better movement. the breakdown for you today. 66 by 11, 2 o'clock. we're talking 76, but we do have a selective couple spots on our maps that show maybe a couple 80's to be had out there. more on your forecast coming up in a bit, stephanie. all right. looking forward to it. thank you, dave. >> our top story this morning, the golden state warriors are looking to finish off the

denver nuggets in the first round of the nba playoffs. the 2 teams square off this afternoon in denver. meanwhile, the warriors are hosting a watch party right outside of the chase center convoys. camila barco is live there this morning as the excitement builds camila. >> good morning, stephanie. so yeah, one more game and it could all be over for the nuggets. but the journey could continue for the warriors. now they have been dominant. this series 3, i know. and today people will get to watch the action all over again here at the chase center for that watch party. now this is what it looks like they can watch from the big screen outside the arena just like they did during thursday night's game. >> fans can come out to the west plaza at thrive city here outside the chase center. it's going to be games, photo opportunities and the giant tv. so you can tear on the dubs. now that starts at 11:00am. and remember, this is a chance to for everyone to come together to watch the warriors play from afar since

they are playing in denver. now the warriors beat the nuggets one 18 to one 13 during game 3 of the playoffs and it's been a pool party. jordan poole led the warriors with 27 points and steph curry has been coming off the bench returning from his foot injury. also scoring 27 points during thursday's game. now is the warrior sweep. the nuggets. they will have a week off before facing their semifinal appoint opponents. but, stephanie, we're just kind of have to see what happens during game for tipoff is at 12, 30 this afternoon and the watch party. if you do want to watch here from outside the chase center, you can start coming by at 11 a m and of course, we'll have all the highlights on air and online at kron 4 dot com. back to you. thanks so much. coming up for that live report. >> and curious to know, you know, if the crowds this year be even bigger for that watch party with those loosening covid restrictions happening tomorrow, thousands of stanford nurses will hit the

picket lines over a list of concerns stemming from the covid outbreak. they're demanding better pay increase, staffing and medical and mental health benefits. they say the pandemic led to burnout and fears of accidently taking the disease home to others. stanford health officials say they are disappointed in the union's decision to strike. they say they recently met with the nurses union and offered them a 5% raise. they've also offered funds. they say that will help nurses repay their student loans. the nurses have been working without a contract since the end of march. 90% of the union voted to strike. stafford officials say replacement nurses will be brought in the hospitals and the hospitals will stay open. happening now, the san mateo county sheriff's office is looking for a woman who robbed a group of teenagers at gun point. >> it happened early friday morning on hall avenue in redwood city. one of the victims is grabbed by the neck and forced to the ground according to officers. that's when the woman took another victim's wallet. while

investigating this robbery, the sheriff's office learned about a similar incident that happened in foster city just a short time after at this point, deputies do not have a detailed description of the robber, but we do know she was last seen wearing green and black clothing and a hoodie. in the east bay. the closure of a family owned grocery store in west oakland has made it harder for people in the area to get healthy food and fresh produce. but as kron forcefully juggle reports, an alternative option is coming. thanks to a strong community effort. >> mosaic world market will provide free space for up to 25 vendors to operate and sell healthy, fresh food, filling the vacuum left behind after full-scale grocery store community foods market closed in this space more than 2 months ago in the flatlands a west. oakland is not a lot of it's a food desert for healthy food. >> and so we know that in most black and brown communities.

>> welcome back. in just a few days, the eyes of the sports world will be on las vegas for this year's nfl draft. the three-day event starts on thursday. sasha loftus has more on how that city is getting ready. >> sports nfl's fun. vegas is a fun city. i think it just makes sense for them to be here. the nfl draft is in its 87 year and for the first time it's being held here in las vegas with preparations already underway at the velocity of fountains and along the stretch. that's part of why i stopped was taking some pictures. the staging from the blasio. it's really cool that they build all this just on the water in the three-day event, the nfl draft experience will allow fans in on the highlights. think of it as an nfl interactive football theme park from april 28th through the 30th located behind the high roller at the linq promenade featuring three-dimensional imaging exhibits. exclusive merchandise plays owns a draft

>> welcome back. time for another check of our weather with meteorologist dave spahr day. super cold for me getting up this morning. a bit on the chilly side shore but will make up for it this afternoon because we've got some of those inland highs reaching for about 80 or so. first order of business for the sun is to mix out this fog. you can see it just hovering right along the east bay shoreline above it. this is our weather for today. nice blue skies going on now upstream. we do have a front that you can barely make out here. it's big claim to fame will be kind of a temperature correction driven driving some winds and all of that and maybe a sprinkle along the coast. but that will be all for this thing. and it's really expected to be a player as we get into tomorrow. and tomorrow afternoon evening, a check into those bay area. temperatures will be in the lower 40's up in the north bay. 46 for livermore east bay shoreline, lower 50's over the fog and of course, the bay keeping temperatures somewhat subdued. 49, meanwhile, 4 san jose a look up the tahoe over the next few days. we've got kind of a spring time forecast

there, too. in the 50's. it looks like for the next couple of days. no precipitation for them or us really on the board. it looks like for this week ahead next week, early next week. little bit of a change coming our way, though, something to look out for you. let's get to that in future cast for here. looks good for today. a couple splotches show up there around the mountains just a bit. here comes this front. that's going to start to drive some cloud cover for us. still on monday, we're going to manage temperatures very close to what we've got going on for today. so a lot of upper 70's near about 80 for some spots. but then tomorrow at late afternoon evening, the winds start to drive. there's a little hint of maybe a few little showers up in the north bay potentially there now winds today because of the daytime heating will be driven east bay heating will drive those winds that we typically get kind of us to a springtime pattern. but being driven more front, holy, if you will, are the winds we expect by tomorrow afternoon into the evening hours. this is 10 o'clock. get your general idea with the front kind of in our backyard at that point and carrying us into tuesday with

the reduction of temperatures warm and sunny today near about 80 in la next week. warm on monday or this week. coming up warm then the change not as warm with those variable clouds all week long. now, next weekend as the sun and clouds mix that continues will be grazed by a shower in the north bay. but the real deal comes the following week. looks like we've got some traffic coming our way to look out for 66 san francisco, 70 coming in for oakland. 76 san jose and the readings on the big board near about 80 going on for antioch, 78 to santa rosa. 76, meanwhile, for napa, some of those valleys inland starting to warm up. we'll have more on that in your 4 zone forecast. check the extended as well. 7, thank you very much, dave. >> happening today, ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky is set to meet with top u.s. officials. reporter rudabeh shahbazi has the latest. >> solecki says he's meeting with u.s.. defense secretary lloyd austin and secretary of state anthony blinken speaking with reporters at an underground train station. the

moon bay and you can see still hanging around the coast. there looks like a couple hours affair before it starts to clear out we should see clearing up the coast and certainly other locations as well as the morning wears on what we're waiting for is the front to drop south. that will be a temperature correct or for us. that will happen field on tuesday. but the cloud cover the winds will be on monday. temperature check for you right now. 42 for santa rosa. also for napa. got some 50's lined up in the east bay shoreline. 58 for antioch. 47, though, for a little more. and 49 for san jose. we're looking at 66 by 11 by to 76. but there's some station as some locations inland. for highs near and around 80 for the bay. we're looking at 66 for san francisco, oakland at 70 76 and jose coming up in a bit. we'll be taking a look at that 4 zone forecast for you. and also that extended stephanie, thank you very much, dave. >> airline officials say they are trying to work with passengers who are afraid to fly with others who are not wearing face masks. this comes

after a federal judge struck down the masking requirement in airports and during flights kron four's amanda hari spoke to doctors about travel safety. >> i'm seeing about a 50 50 split of people choosing to mask up and people choosing to go on mask here at the airport, a doctor i spoke to said there is going to be a higher chance of getting covid-19 while traveling. now that people are unmasked. i think people should recognize that. >> there's more responsibility on themselves to take every conceivable precaution they can to rare sight at the airport. many people now unmasked after a federal judge in florida struck down the masking requirement to think was a whirlwind decisions to the judge may just horrible professor of infectious diseases at uc berkeley doctor john swartzberg. >> says he doesn't think it was the right decision. some airlines say they're now offering options, including refunds in some cases.

company posted a 1.4 billion dollar loss right now, ovrrall, travel numbers are up more than 18 times. what they were at the start of the pandemic. a new study from ucsf shows that covid-19 vaccines have prevented tens of thousands of deaths in california alone. according to that study, vaccines prevented about one and a half million infections. nearly 73,000 hospitalizations and almost 20,000 deaths in the state right now, more than 70% of californians are fully vaccinated. in the east bay. a massive fentanyl bust in alameda county. the county narcotics task force as they recovered more than 92 pounds of fentanyl during busts in oakland and hayward, detectives found a fentanyl manufacturing lab friday afternoon. officers arrested one person. investigators are still looking for a second suspect in connection to that bust. in oakland. one person is in the hospital after a car crashed into a home. check out

this video of the scene posted to the citizen app. quite a lot of damage left behind there. oakland police say that this happened early saturday morning on the car through boulevard. the driver's name is not being released at this time. while officials try to get in touch with family investigators believe there's was also a passenger on this car on where this car, but they ran from the scene. no word yet on what caused this crash or of drugs or alcohol played a factor. oakland police are also investigating a shooting that happened on the car thir boulevard friday night when police arrived on scene, they found a person who'd been shot several times. that person died at the scene. no information about the victim is being released until their family has contacted and no arrests have been made yet. so far. in walnut creek, a man is behind bars, accused of using a machete while trying to rob a target. police say the 31 year-old suspect angel rodriguez did not make it out of the store with anything,

but he is accused of trying to rob the register and the stores electronic section when rodriguez failed to get a hold of any cash. investigators say he ran off towards the walnut creek, bart station. he was later arrested and taken to the martinez detention facility. that's quite a sizable machete. there. investigators are trying to figure out how this sailboat right here caught fire in the san francisco bay. it happened saturday afternoon between pier 27 and treasure island. this is video from the san francisco fire department. nobody was injured and it doesn't look from that video that anyone was on board. but we're working to get some more information on that. now coming up on the kron 4 morning news. we're all feeling the impact of inflation driving prices up. >> lawmakers in washington now struggling to come up with a solution. the latest effort coming out of our nation's capital. and after the break, one nasa astronaut is looking to make history this week were incredible story and how she hopes to inspire others. coming up.

benefits. they say the pandemic led to burnout and fears of accidently taking the disease home to others. stanford health officials say they are disappointed in the union's decision to strike. they say they recently met with the nurses union and offer them a 5% raise. they've also offered funds, they say will help nurses repay their student loans. the nurses have been working without a contract since the end of march. 90% of the union voted to strike. stanford officials say replacement nurses will be brought in and the hospitals will stay open. >> happening now, the san mateo county sheriff's office is looking for a woman who robbed a group of teenagers at gun point. it happened early friday morning on hall avenue in redwood city. one of the victims was grabbed by the neck and forced to the ground according to officers. that's when the woman took another victim's wallet. while investigating this robbery, the sheriff's office learned about a similar incident that happened in foster city just a short time after at this

>> welcome back. time now for another check of our weather meteorologist dave spahr standing by to give us a closer look. and dave, how long can we expect that sunshine to stick around today? stephanie, looks like it will be with us. and then tomorrow it's going start to get a little bit more shy west. some scattered clouds skews me at. have some scattered clouds going on. and this front drops south. that's going to drive it on shore wind. that's going to be cooling effect now all week long. what kind of play, you know, singsong game with the sun in the clouds business. but the pacific will be open. that's the important issue. here is the fog i mentioned earlier, still with us in the east bay shoreline. give us a couple of hours, maybe around noon to clear up the coast in some areas, a little stubborn there. and there's their future. you can see up towards the top. that's the blue skies are front, by the way, its way upstream here, a little pocket of some cloud cover. so this afternoon, you might see a little stray cloud, but the front is up towards the north. again, it's driving winds and cooler temperatures. right now we're looking at lower 50's lining up the east bay shoreline 40's to the north

amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> despite concerns from some passengers, some major airlines appear to be bouncing back from where they were during the pandemic. united airlines ceo scott kirby says current travel demand is the highest it's been in 30 years. it was a very different story at the start of the year when the company posted a 1.4 billion dollar loss right now, overall, travel numbers are up more than 18 times. what they were at the beginning of the pandemic. what a difference. a new study from ucsf shows that covid-19 vaccines have prevented tens of thousands of deaths in california alone. according to the study, vaccines prevented about one and a half million infections. nearly 73,000 hospitalizations and almost 20,000 deaths in the state right now, more than 70% of californians are fully vaccinated. in the east bay. a massive fentanyl bust in alameda county. the county narcotics task force as they

recovered more than 92 pounds of fentanyl during bust in oakland and hayward, detectives found a fence manufacturing lab friday afternoon officers arrested one person. investigators are still looking for a second suspect in connection to that bust. in oakland. one person is in the hospital after a car crashed into a home. check this out. this is video you're seeing of the scene posted to the citizen app. oakland police say this happened early saturday morning on the cars are boulevard. why could amount of damage left behind there? the driver's name is not being released at this time. while officials try to get in touch with his family, investigators believe there may also have been a passenger on board this car, but that person may have run from the scene. no word yet on what caused this crash or if drugs or alcohol played a factor. oakland police are also investigating a shooting that happened on macarthur boulevard friday night when police arrived on scene, they found a person who'd been shot

several times. that person died at the scene. no information about the victim is being released at this time until their family has contacted. no arrests have been made. in walnut creek. a man is behind bars, accused of using a machete. well, trying to rob a target store. police say the 31 year-old suspect angel rodriguez did not make it out of the store with anything, but he is accused of trying to rob the register in the stores electronic section when rodriguez failed to get a hold of any cash. investigators say he ran off towards the walnut creek. bart station. he was later arrested and taken to the martinez detention facility. investigators are trying to figure out how this sail boat caught fire in san francisco bay. it happened saturday afternoon between pier 27 and treasure island. this is video from the san francisco fire department. fortunately, nobody was injured. coming up

and by monday, noon or so again, kind of the variable cloudy story, but quite a bit of sunshine still going on. winds with the ride in up to the north. a couple little echoes pop up. just a touch over night. those winds today, they pop a little bit on shore, but more importantly tomorrow, as you can see, this is being driven by the front. now as we get into tuesday, that will be all due to that frontal system boundary. this is where it is in the big map. but we're watching upstream for something more substantive. yeah, that one falls apart as well. but it's after next weekend we might get something out of this and notice the mountain snows being colored in there as well. so this is fairly cool for the season as well. it's not to coming in from the tropics or anywhere like that. so that's good to get some more mountain snows this late in the season as we're into may. and a little bit more for the melting into the spring and summer months just to go run into those reservoirs. 4 zone forecast. 66 san francisco will do the lower 60's of the coastal some 50's hanging out. they have to fight that fog this morning.

upper 60's along the bay side. mid 70's heading south south redwood city. 74 75 going on. palo alto in the south bay. 76 san jose, morgan hill, maybe about 78 76 santa clara. we're in the lower 70's along the east bay shoreline. a little the coupling happening from those inland areas. contrast with the east bay shoreline, tri valley, upper 70's. but some selective spots reaching to about 80 78 for walnut creek. there's vacaville 81, 69 blay. whoa, may do that tomorrow perhaps but on balance, i would say shave a couple degrees from these numbers for tomorrow because of the interruption of cloud cover the front. 75 for petaluma. here it is in the seven-day forecast. slight reduction, maybe tomorrow and temperatures more serious in earnest for the remainder of the week with highs upper 60's lower 70's. meanwhile, the bay will be into the 60's department. what this tells us is, although we're not getting much in the way of any rain, we don't see a high developing which keeps the pacific open. that's good news for success of systems after next weekend. coming our way, stephanie.

you're seeing here are according to triple a as of this morning. on the left, you can see the price today and you on the right. you can see the price one month ago in san francisco, the average price for a gallon of regular has dropped about $0.14 over the last month. it's down to 5.79 per gallon in oakland. prices have also gone down about $0.14. it's a similar situation in san jose. sandra fell has seen the biggest drop with prices going down about $0.19 in the last month. and if you want to save money on groceries, you might consider growing your own. why not? nearly 20 million americans started gardening during the pandemic. now with rising costs and limited options in some produce aisles. more and more people are looking into growing their own food, both seed companies and community gardens have seen steady increases in demand. in fact, community gardens across the nation saw a 40% increase and people coming in just last

office is looking for a woman who robbed a group of teenagers at gun point. it happened early friday morning on hall avenue and redwood city. one of the victims was grabbed by the neck and forced to the ground, according to officers. that's when the woman took another victim's wallet. well investigating this robbery. the sheriff's office learned about a similar incident that happened in foster city just a short time after at this point, deputies do not have a detailed description of the robber. we do know, however, that she was last seen wearing green and black clothing and a hoodie. our top story this morning, the golden state warriors are looking to finish off the denver nuggets in the first round of the nba playoffs. the 2 teams square off this afternoon in denver and meantime, the worriers are hosting a watch party outside of the chase center kron four's camila barco is live there this morning. as that excitement builds camila. >> yeah, good morning, stephanie. so everything has

again. >> than i mean, i was interviewed for the remarkable woman special i was live on set to an one. and so i'm honor to be back again. and we're so happy. you're here to talk about another important initiative that you're working on. so first of all, though, you've been quite busy since we've flashy new. so, you know, what has life been like for you since you were named one of kron four's? remarkable women. it's been amazing. i've had so many people reach out with either kind words about my own story. are trauma survivors saying, hey, i learned about your organization and i'm so glad i'm able to find some resources now. and and then now speaking at the rally in sacramento about the prosecutors alliance survivor voices survey. >> in report, it's, you know, continuing to grow victim serviceso and i'm really happy to see it happen. so let's talk a little bit about some of those services. so we know that april is assault awareness month. so what kind of resources are you offering to those who've, you know,

gone through that type of experience. throughout the month we offered a support group and then we recently did a denim day inspired paint night. so it's a form of self care to be able to pay your think about something other than your trauma and then alc in honor of denim day, which is up up and coming, which is wednesday, april 27th and denim day was started after the court case in italy in 1992, 18 year-old young woman was raped by her. 45 year-old driving instructor. and then that driving instructor was able to get out of prison because the italian supreme court claims she must have given consent because she was wearing jeans and must have helped the chain's be and in solidarity with that victim, the italian parliament of all the women there, we're all genes. i'm so show solidarity. got what you wear. does not. mean that you're providing consent and now it has become

a global movement and so reclaim foundation is standing in solidarity with every assault survivor and raising awareness about it. so we encourage everyone to wear all your britney spears, justin timberlake, that you're canadian talks, whatever you want to call it, where all and let's also talk to about the sacramento mass shooting are at a rally pretty recently to talk about your feelings about that. you're a survivor of a mass shooting yourself. so when the news first broke about what happened in sacramento, what was going through your mind? >> complete heartbreak. top ptsd. ptsd is not something that is care thatisomething that always states with you. and so my immediate mind kind of flash a spot to everything i experienced day and the gilroy garlic festival mass shooting and then also the heartbreak of knowing what they're all the survivors are going to have to go through what the victims families are dealing with in knowing kind of the locker resources i had

fall. but now more than ever, i am hopeful that they will be able to receive the support that i didn't happen. pos victims to not have either through reclaim foundation or through this new survivors report because the prosecutors alliance is teaming up with a bunch of legislators to be able to passmore victims compensation. so making sure advocates are trauma informed when they respond to these events being able to offer therapy and mental health services for folks and continuing their treatment throughout time. and what specifically is your organization doing in response to say incidents like that, sacramento mass shooting? yeah, mostly just raising awareness that we exist, that we are a safe place for survivors that they can come to us and we can help them find resources. >> right now are still so new. but we are hoping to be able to offer like therapy reimbursements. and in august, we are our lawn chair, reclaim network, which will be a place for survivors to come together and share their experiences

and offer support one another and such a powerful thing. and have you had a chance also to connect with some lawmakers to talk about the impact that this type of violence can have on an individual and the importance of introducing maybe legislation too >> help create some reform. yes, so in october, i was invited by the prosecutors alliance to talk to district attorney chesa bowden. >> and then also diana, back to him. and at this meeting, i was able to say, you know, after i went through the mass shooting, i was not contacted them anyway. i was offered resources. there was nothing available to me. 40% of victims of crime are not offered any former resources, even though there are some that exists like the victim's compensation board. and so that kind of involved involved into the survivor voices report. and that is where i went this monday to reflect on what all all the findings that they found. they talk to 710 other survivors beyond myself. and there's a lot of

store to the gas pump. and it's quickly become a major focus here on capitol hill. republicans and democrats agree rising prices are a problem. obviously affecting every family's budget. we have all got to be completely focused on lowering costs for working people every day. what they don't agree on is how tackle america's high inflation. president biden and democrats point to the war in ukraine as the primary force behind higher prices was going to be hard for a while getting through the cost of gasoline and energy because of >> and the war. but republicans accuse democrats of pumping too much easy money into the economy. ohio senator rob portman says it's hurting all of us. people's wages have gone up. some. but inflation is going up higher. democrats have a range of legislative proposals aimed at bringing down prices, including legislation to make prescription drugs cheaper. >> everyone has less money in their pocket. they because the high cost of health care. >> and senator patty murray is pushing to pass a bill that would help families pay for child care. we can help

working families by putting money back in their pockets and taking a little stress off their shoulders. many republicans say more government spending will only make inflation worse, cost americans more in the long run and drive the federal government deeper into debt. but president biden wants to pay for the proposals by raising taxes on the ultra wealthy. all they got to do is pay a fair share. and we can do all this and so much more as lawmakers return to the capitol on monday after their 2 week long spring break. the pressure is on for them to find solutions in washington. i'm hannah brandt. there is some good news for people here in the bay area. >> gas prices have seen a slight drop in the last month. let's take a look. these prices are according to triple a as of this morning on the left there you can see the price today on the right. you can see the price one month ago in san francisco, the average price for a gallon of regular has dropped about $0.14 over the last month. it is down to 5.79 per gallon in
