slightly cooler temperatures tomorrow than today, but lots of sunshine on both days. so looking good on that front. there you have it. the golden gate just above the cloud deck. >> and as we look ahead into the later morning hours, you see that kind of evaporates mixes out well before noon. however, tomorrow, it's going to be a little bit more aggressive covering a little bit more territory spilling into the valleys. you can see it off there to try valley livermore valley. also up to kirchhaine a straight and again, that will mix out by the afternoon. now, what's going to change a bit is a little bit more in the way of a few little scattered clouds from a system dropping just towards our north. and that will drive some cooler temperatures for sunday, but still looks like a spring-like day to go on the board. right now. we have lots of 50's 62 for antioch. 54 for in a bottle. a cooler. 49 for half moon bay in the coastal numbers will be a bit on the cool side even today. 56 san jose. for contrast, though, we're ahead of where we were this time yesterday. except like coastal locations like half moon bay still trailing there winds, other fairly

taking a look at the map of the race route will put up right there. it starts on the east side of the city and moves along the panhandle and through golden gate park. it ends at the great highway along ocean beach. the finish line closes at 1 o'clock sunday afternoon and if you're driving into the want to avoid these areas because traffic is going to be heavy for a complete list of road closures. you can head to our website kron dot com kron 4 dot com. now to the latest on the covid-19 pandemic bay area. health officials are asking people to mask up indoors once again. the region now has the state's highest covid infection rates. kron four's. dan thorn takes a closer look at what's fueling the surge. >> it seemed like we were pretty much done with wearing masks across most of the bay area. covid cases were getting under control and high vaccination rates have kept more people from getting really sick. but now all of

the region's health officers are urging us to take precautions. the reality is that there's an awful lot of infection going on right now. uc berkeley, infectious disease expert doctor john swartzberg says >> the indoor mask recommendation by bay area. health leaders should be taken seriously contagious omicron subvariants have driven the region into the highest infection rates in the state. san francisco has reported the biggest uptick in cases as of friday. more than 60 people were hospitalized with covid compared to 19 a month ago in some parts of the bay area. infections are higher now than at the height of the delta variant. we have to >> recognize this is not a real safe time and we ought to be going back to doing those kind of things that will protect us and protect other people. bay area, health leaders are not requiring indoor masking. they're just strongly recommending their use at this time. >> experts say vaccines

continue to be the best protection against the virus. there is, however, some positive news with this latest wave. one of the good things about this particular way, is a good thing about it is that number of people getting really sick and one the hospital, one, you're part of later. and tragically, some people don't. we're not seeing that is a big part of this way. reporting in san francisco, dan thorn kron, 4 news. >> developing news this morning. investigators say they found a key piece of evidence in the search for missi.g oakley woman. alexis gabe police say that they found her cell phone case. that's where it is. and it was designed apparently by the 24 year-old herself, her family members and friends also confirmed this is gabe's phone case. police believe the man captured in this video threw away the case back on january. 26, that's the same day when gabe's family reported her missing at the bottom of the screen. you can see the man walking away from gabe's car

next week. we're going to track back to more like the spring-like pattern. there it is. the fog checking in that cold bay waters. giving us that typical advection fog going on. so what we have going on as we get into tomorrow, well, looks like the weather hold pretty good for the bay to festivities. however, it will be a bit cooler and more fog took in the morning hours to kind of deal with this little system up towards our north rainmaker might get some coastal drizzle a little bit. but for the city, you know, they get a lot of that anyway, sometimes in the morning hours. so not that unusual 50's on the board for the most part. 66 for antioch, 50% rosa. 54 in a bottle. 52 san francisco watching forward with this to today. you know, busy a sunny day at all. then as we get to tonight tomorrow, here comes some scattered little pieces of drizzle going on. some cloud cover more fog and which negotiate with afternoon gets here. it clears out and back to the sunny weather. but actually the future, we're going to notice more. so we get a little pop of winds in the afternoon. typical inland heating. but tomorrow afternoon evening.

yeah, it looks like more bit in the way of involved winds, you know, into the 20's. we can see here those statements with this, but they potentially may issue something later on with that forecast calls for 70 today, san francisco, 77 for oakland, 84 san jose. these numbers won't be quite this lofty tomorrow, but across the wider bay scratching on the door of about 90 for antioch and conquered up to the north bay, 88 santa rosa. 86 for napa. and even along the east bay shoreline around 80 ish or so a little bit. we'll get more into the weeds on this in the 4 zone forecast and check into that extended where we take a pause before snapping back again. stephanie, looking forward to it. thank you. day. >> another big story we're following this morning. governor newsom is responding to the ongoing calls to do something about the freeway shootings in the bay area. he announced a pilot program to install a new camera network as kron four's terisa stasio explains. advocates are already applauding the news. >> we have very happy and very

excited because of cost. finally being asked to call chan is speaking on behalf of the world family. 23 month-old jasper. wu died in a drive-by shooting on 8.80 in oakland in november of 2021. there were no surveillance cameras on that stretch of the freeway. but that will soon change governor gavin newsom announced friday 200 closed circuit television cameras or cctv will soon be installed throughout the state to aid with the violent crimes occurring on california's freeways because they're close circuit and their high definition cameras. we should be able to detect the type of vehicle license number and the number of occupants in the vehicle and maybe even get a description of the inside that vehicle. alameda county sheriff greg ahern advocated for the network following at least 3 deadly freeway shootings in his county. >> including the murder of one of their recruits. david wind blew out a camera in that us

>> activists say they've gathered more than 1 million signatures to put the living wage act on the november ballot. if passed, california's minimum wage would go up to $18 an hour. that change would be gradual with wages increasing by one buck each year starting next year. the petition apparently has more than enough signatures. roughly 600,000 were needed in the meantime, governor newsom's office said this week that the state minimum wage for all employers will likely rise to $15.50 an hour starting january. 1st. california's estimated budget surplus surged to more than 97 billion dollars after the state collected more in taxes than expected. governor newsom taking advantage of this moment as he seeks reelection in the fall, announcing plans to use the money to tackle the drought and help more people are more women get abortions. he said he also wants to fix the rising cost of food, gas and other goods because of

inflation. but some state financial experts say over time, big budget surpluses could mean big budget problems. that's because they can trigger of the state appropriations limit. so what does that mean? that's when each dollar over the limit equals $2 in required spending >> he's using budget gimmicks to skirt, began spending limit. that was designed to ensure that california government lives within its means and that is that's irresponsible. and we need to re evaluate our spending priorities and live within the means that californians want. >> the state legislative analyst said state leaders can address problems over time by either reducing taxes or asking voters to change the limit, which was set in 1979 newsom says he supports tax reform and asking voters to change the limit. meanwhile, state lawmakers have until june 15th to approve the state budget. still ahead on the

that kick off this half hour with a look at the forecast. we have dave spahr in the weather center with the latest a day. a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and kind of the summertime day a little bit. we call may be a mild summer. like day is what we've got going on here the morning. fog checking in. as you can see, it's pretty much centric around the golden gate. bridge is not is a spreading deeply across the whole bay. that could be different story, though, tomorrow. but >> east bay shoreline all lit up, as you can see here with just some haze off towards the distance and thus the lie to start to fill up through the hills there, too. so upstream, we're going have kind of a weak system passing towards our north. it will bring in a thicker marine layer. so therefore, tomorrow morning for the festivities and so forth will get maybe some coastal drizzle going on a little bit around san francisco as well with some of that fog wind check for you kind of variable at this winds single digits to calm, although we expect a little bit of a pop in the afternoon. temperature check were in the 50's over most of the region. 49 chilly degrees there for half moon bay. but santa rosa,

police say a 3 year-old girl named a rally was killed by her mother. >> claudia hernandez santo's ago, renee hernandez santo's and grandfather renee hernandez. we're comfortable in saying that. >> these 3 individuals are going to held be held accountable for the death of a 3 year-old child. the charges that are set before our child abuse resulting in a child death court documents. explain how the family attempt an exorcism type ritual on the 3 year-old. >> holding her down by the neck, torso and legs for nearly 12 hours attempting to make or vomit by sticking their fingers and hands down her throat. officer steve aponte says the trio waited 2 hours after really die to call police. there was a delay in time before officers and emergency personnel were contacted. >> the reason behind that is obviously part of the investigation. we're still trying to wonder why anybody would delay in calling first responders at any sign of illness in a child or illness or death of a child. claudia hernandez santos posted about her daughter's death on youtube for days before her january arrest.

>> saying, quote, if you weren't there, you don't know what happened. officer upon to explain friday why it took another 4 months for the victim's uncle and grandfather to be arrested and charged follow-up done by the full coroner's report which was released just very recently. this as of this week, i believe, was with later implicated. the 2 individuals that were arrested just 2 days ago. >> according to the full report by the coroner's office really is death was caused by suffocation and smothering in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> in the east bay, one of the men accused of killing kron 4 security guard kevin nishita was back in court friday. should he excuse me mitchell pleaded not guilty to in alameda county court. the 25 year-old is being charged for me. she does murder. was shot and killed last november in oakland. well, guarding one of our reporters. 2 other people are named as suspects in this case. hershel hale is behind bars and police are still looking for laron gilbert mitchell will be back in court june 15th. the oakland police

department is one step closer to finally ending nearly 2 decades of federal oversight. a judge ruled that the department can now enter a one-year probationary period. the oversight stems from a lawsuit filed in 2000 when 6 men in west oakland claimed they were falsely arrested on drug charges and assaulted in framed by police. the officers were found not guilty but a civil case led to a settlement requiring oakland police to improve the way it trains and disciplines officers. civil rights attorney john burris spoke with kron 4 last night and says he hopes the reforms will last. >> whatever we did, we want to make sure that was sustainable and that would last beyond the terms of the agreements of my point of view. it's important at last be on. when you hit that building period for senate buildup an important. but my way of thinking all this were to happen under this down to the years. it really was about generational change,

cameras and cover overtime. supreme court justice sam alito made his first public remarks since the draft of a since the leak of a draft rather decision that would overturn roe v wade alito is the justice who wrote that draft. he spoke at the graduation for the antonin scalia law school at george mason university telling the students he was not going to discuss the matter. he says the court is working on cases as they near the end of their term next month, but did not expand any further if the court rules in accordance with the draft, more than 20 states are expected to ban abortions, it's still not known who leaked the document. happening today. there will be a rally in san francisco to march for reproductive justice, multiple bay area. community leaders and members and organizations will host this event. the march will meet between grove and hyde street near the san francisco civic center. it starts at 11:00am. coming up on the kron. 4 morning news. a

kron four's. dan thorn takes a closer look at what is fueling the surge. >> it seemed like we were pretty much done with wearing masks across most of the bay area. covid cases were getting under control and high vaccination rates have kept more people from getting really sick. but now all of the region's health officers are urging us to take precautions. the reality is that there's an awful lot of infection going on right now. uc berkeley, infectious disease expert doctor john swartzberg says >> the indoor mask recommendation by bay area. health leaders should be taken seriously contagious omicron subvariants have driven the region into the highest infection rates in the state. san francisco has reported the biggest uptick in cases as of friday. more than 60 people were hospitalized with covid compared to 19 a month ago in some parts of the bay area. infections are higher now than at the height of the delta variant. we have to >> recognize this is not a

years. according to new data from the cdc in california, lawmakers are making moves to address this issue by targeting gun makers. joining me to talk about this effort is assemblyman phil ting of san francisco. thank you so much for being with us here today. let's for help. and it's good to be here this morning. so, you know, we are close approaching the one-year mark of when the vta san jose really are shooting just a few weeks ago. we had the mass shooting in sacramento. so what goes through your mind when you hear about these incidents happening in our state? >> that the horrifying and remember hearing about ups shooting here in san francisco. there was that awful shooting in san bernardino and every every morning when you hear these shootings happened, you think when is enough enough to when are we going to have some common sense around gun violence? right? you've introduced the firearms accountability act that ab 1, 5, 9, 4, >> walk us through that and why you're going after gun makers. well, this is a law that new york passed last year and has been tested to be tested through the court

system. we really believe that this is constitutionally sound. what it says is that gun owners, gun distributors, gun shops should have liability. if whatever reason they're not following state law and what it allows is gun victims as well as large cities to go soon. these manufacturers and distributors and if for whatever reason they're being negligent. >> and are there certain standards that you're also holding a gunmaker to like? what does it mean for them to be negligent? >> well, just like any any company. so if you're if you drive a car or you buy a toy, if there's some sort of next negligence, you you as a consumer can go sue. that company. the only company you can sue is a gun manufacturer, which is kind of shocking to think in this country. we have so many rights as consumers. we have rights to buy a product that we can hold these industry accountable and we can hold him accountable for all the violence that they cause on our so what is your response to critics who say, well, why go after?

terisa stasio explains. advocates are already applauding this news. >> we have very happy and very excited because of cost. finally answer. karl chan is speaking on behalf of the world family. 23 month-old jasper. wu died in a drive-by shooting on 8.80, in oakland in november of 2021. there were no surveillance cameras on that stretch of the freeway. but that will soon change governor gavin newsom announced friday 200 closed circuit television cameras or cctv will soon be installed throughout the state to aid with the violent crimes occurring on california's freeways because they're closer it and they're high-definition cameras. we should be able to detect the type of vehicle license number and the number of occupants in the vehicle and maybe even get a description of the inside that vehicle. alameda county sheriff greg ahern advocated for the network following at least 3 deadly freeway shootings in his county. >> including the murder of one

firefighter with ties to ukraine is back home after traveling across the ocean to help people affected by the russian invasion. kron four's amanda hari talk to him about his experience. >> i think cinematic is a really, really good way to put it because you can make. anything seem real. and when you go there, you know, the contra costa county firefighter yuri slack. >> took these photos when he won a volunteer relief mission to ukraine. >> less than a month to go to legitimate war zone. some people are still trying to live their normal lives. slack was born in the u.s. just 4 months after his family moved here from ukraine. he says both his older brothers were born in ukraine and he still has cousins who live there. many of his friends and extended family in ukraine say they never thought it would get this bad. it seems like knew that there is a potential threat that. >> no one could really imagine that something like that would

california's minimum wage will go up to $18 an hour. that change would be gradual with wages increasing by one buck each year starting next year. the petition apparently has more than enough signatures. roughly 600,000 were needed in the meantime, governor newsom's office said this week that the state minimum wage will likely rise to $15.50 an hour starting january. 1st. california is estimated budget surplus surged to more than 97 billion dollars after the state collected more in taxes than expected. governor newsom taking advantage of the moment as he seeks reelection in the fall announcing plans to use the money to tackle the drought and help more women get abortions. he said he also wants to fix the rising cost of food, gas and other goods because of inflation. but some critics say over time, big budget surpluses could mean big budget problems. and
