going to look a lot different than today will be fighting off some cloud cover. and as you can see, still some bay fog on the east bay shoreline here, the shot from uc berkeley. so back to that fog, you can see late clearing occurs as we approach the afternoon now at the coast that might be problematic. at least a day now here comes back again. very quickly, right around sunset, but then brushes off before dawn and looks like that's a frontal system marching through and behind it. it will be a little breezy, but it will clear out. here's where the rain is going on here. those patches here and there we did get a couple of showers across the bay in some selective spots. that's pretty much put to rest. there's another cloud or clouds burn expected later on this afternoon. up in the north bay temperatures right now, we're pretty much in the mid to upper 50's. 59 going on for antioch. 59 for san jose,

san francisco checking in 53 and our temperature contrast were trailing by a couple degrees. pretty much uniformly across the bay. so today a lot of the bay will open up this afternoon to essentially mostly sunny skies. but we've got to put partly cloudy and they're for the north bay as clouds really thicken up again. looks like shortly after the midday hours. coming up a little bit here, we'll take a closer look at that forecast. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> happening today, it's day 2 of the bottle rock music festival in napa. tonight's headliners include 21 pilots, the black crowes and more kron. 4 s camila barco is live for us at bottle rock and camilla. how's it looking out there? >> well, stephanie, i just want to point out, not sure if you can see them, but there's already a line forming here at the v i p bottle rockets going to be another day of live music. some winds, some food. it's going to be a good time here and nap. and i want you to take a look at what the first day it was like here for

east bay shoreline as well. so we'll take the late morning hours for the final stretch to clear out here is kind of the proof of the pudding. havoc from the golden gate bridge. >> meanwhile, the east bay shoreline, you can see filled out nicely here. we will not repeat this. it looks like for tomorrow, though, we're just in the midst of a little trough right here in our backyard. driving the familiar on shore winds. you'll feel those going on this afternoon and overnight, too, by the way, until we get some of is clearing by tomorrow morning temperature check for you. a lot of mid 50's on the board. 62 antioch, 57 for concord and livermore. 54, meanwhile, 4 san francisco, a lot of uniformity there. so we get a pop of some clearing by midday or so. in the east bay in the south bay, then this other dose of cloud cover comes with the passage of the front. can't rule out maybe a little sprinkle or 2 with all of this. but by the time it fills in and out of the south and the east bay, it's already nightfall. so this works its magic overnight. it clears overnight and by sunday, it's pretty much mostly sunny at all locations. so look really great at the beaches in the mountains and so on and so forth there. the winds a

little bit in the way of on shore all day today. kind of picks up a little bit off there. you can see the vacaville and also fairfield a little bit there on shore. thank you. so that will keep things cool and keep it somewhat moist as well. fire concerns overnight. we have the winds that continue all the way will sunday night before they finally subside. and then it's a gradual warming trend for another heat. spike expected by the middle of the week. putting it all together here. we've got the morning fog, sun and clouds, mixture. that's going to favor the north bay, by the way, for cloud cover today. 70's even well inland, which we repeat again tomorrow. we're little crack 80 or so until memorial day itself warm spring day will call on monday. that's pretty much inland. now. and then hot again by mid-week. you're going to feel this tuesday, wednesday, maybe a little bit on thursday, inland going on before we do this whole thing again, the next one will be a little bit more aggressive. it will clear out as quickly as this one. 64 san francisco, we're called variable clouds and cool. oakland at 67. 75

meanwhile for san jose noting those early clouds pretty much departing until late tonight when they fill back in again and across the wider bay. temperatures only in the lower to middle 70's. that's it today. a little bit warmer, though, expected for tomorrow course. we'll have that for zone for forecast coming up in just a bit. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. new developments in the school shooting in texas. authorities. >> now admitting that law enforcement made the wrong decision when responding to the shooting. authorities said 19 officers waited outside the classroom for more than an hour as the gunman shot and killed 19 students and 2 teachers. the director of the texas department of public safety sharing friday morning that the commander on scene during tuesday's shooting thought the gunman was barricaded inside of a classroom and that the children were not at risk. director steve mccraw called this the wrong decision. u.s. patrol border agents eventually used a master key to open the locked door of the classroom with a shot and killed the gunman. the new tea

details causing more heartbreak for already grieving parents. >> what kind of job they have? i mean, they're like this isn't about on the back of car to protect and serve for why? why didn't they protect you? >> following this new information, the texas he's got. the texas governor says he's livid about what happened that he was initially misinformed about how police handled the situation. >> disturbing new details of how an 11 year-old girl survived the school shooting in texas this week. >> in an interview me says she smeared the blood of one of her classmates on herself and played dead during that attack. surreal herself did get hit in the head and shoulder by fragments, but is otherwise ok? can't believe i can imagine traumatizing them must be. now that he's in that classroom. the controversial police response to the texas

school shooting continues to raise questions about officer training and decision-making kron four's. dan kerman got insight from some experts. >> want to see very there's no no excuse for that. law enforcement authorities in texas admitted friday they should not have waited. 45 minutes. >> to re-engage the shooter who barricaded himself in a classroom with school kids, especially considering shooting, continued during that time frame. the protocol is very clear. you have no choice but >> stop the shooter come pulling the trigger. >> pierre, everybody knows there's a you know, you go to the gun. go to that you confront the threat. yeah. and you want to neutralize and stop the threat. if it's ongoing, you know not you don't have the luxury of time. experts say given what's known now, law enforcement officials clearly made a mistake. it was the wrong call because they had an active shooter and there they continued the shooting killing of the kids. apparently they had. >> an active shooter training

morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. let's start this half hour off with a look at our weekend forecast far as in the weather center with the latest. good morning, dave. hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and for this holiday you know, it's the unofficial start to summer, but it's feeling more like spring or even early spring. and that. >> dealing with our morning fog. we have which won't be around so much tomorrow morning. but it's going to linger least at the coast. it looks like at least around midday here it is along the east bay shore lines. you can see still not making out the landscape there below winds currently now are coming in on shore, expected to do the same for about the next 48 hours. we're going away for a trough. the play out tonight. kind of interesting to see the fog pattern will show you that in just a bit. 50's on the board for the most part, any ox pop that 62 now and 60%, carlos and 59 san jose. here you have that fog and notice how it clears except that might be problematic at the coast a little bit by mid-afternoon

doing okay. but boy, it rolls back in again right around dusk then clears out before dawn tomorrow. so we're off to a pretty good start there. 66 by 11, as we see some clearing developing across the bay by the afternoon. again, clouds or redevelop up in the north bay. but the east and south bay, we've pretty clear for most of the day with expected 70's for monday. a little bit warmer. summers may pop in about 80 but were called 50's at the coast. 70's inland and looking good for those winds as well. have more in your extended forecast coming up in just a bit. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. love graphic, too. >> the nra annual convention continues this weekend in houston, texas, just 300 miles from tuesday's mass shooting in uvalde. there were all set. there were several calls from different organizations and politicians for the nra to cancel the event. but organizers still went ahead as planned kron four's rob nesbitt reports on what happened opening day. >> the nra's convention is expected to draw around 55,000

attendees from friday to sunday. several speakers backed out. but that didn't stop others from voicing their opinions about the shooting at robb elementary school and gun before entering the door of houston's george r brown convention center. nra members were met with a chance and signs of protesters. senator association's choice to have the convention 3 days after the uvalde school shooting as tone deaf. but it's not surprising because we are a stronger over and over again. >> but it could care less this mass shootings that are literally showing her children friday. speakers included nra leaders, senator ted cruz and former president donald trump. he started by reading the names of the 19 students and 2 teachers who were shot and killed tuesday. aletha. >> ramirez. >> leader listing off ways to prevent another mass shooting that included changing the approach to mental health and increasing security in schools. >> there should be strong

exterior fencing, metal detectors and the use of new technology to make sure that no unauthorized individual can ever enter the school. some politicians and celebrities canceled their appearances on stage, including texas governor greg abbott. and unlike some, i didn't disappoint you by not showing up. governor abbott instead sent a pre-recorded video saying stricter gun laws are not the answer. thousands of laws on the books across the country that limit. >> the owning or using a firearms. laws that have not stopped mad men from carrying out evil acts on innocent people. senator wiener says the country should take california's lead a state laws that restrict the access to assault weapons and require strong background checks before purchase. we already have the strongest gun safety laws in the country. we also have. >> and one student, one of the lowest rates of gun violence. the nra's annual meeting is only open to members despite their common interests.

attendees are prohibited from bringing any firearms or firearm accessories into the convention. reporting from the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> what questions continue to come out of the texas elementary school shooting, including why law enforcement did not intervene sooner. it took more than an hour after the first 9-1-1 call for officers to enter the classroom and take out the gunman. this is also a time of high emotions and some people say it's not the time to rush to judgment. >> until you walk a mile in office or shoes. you cannot make a decision like they did it. so we have to give him credit for what they decided to do. >> according to texas state officials, a student from inside the classroom where the shooting happened called 9-1-1 several times asking for police. in response to the shooting in texas. multiple school districts and police departments in the bay area are beefing up security kron four's. justin campbell explains the new program

launched by san jose police. >> as you can imagine, this has been a hard emotional week for many parents in response to this mass shooting. the san jose police department says they want to make sure that parents and teachers feel safe in the classroom. they will increase patrols around schools. they will have 4 police vehicles with 2 officers in each one that will patrol all san jose schools. the program will run through june 10th. we spoke to parents about how they feel about the stepped up patrols. you also don't want to see them turn into like a militarized zone where >> it kind of ended with the patrols. looks like i guess so. i hope it. i know it will make me feel better in the short term. but i mean, it's not a long-term solution. unfortunately. >> i feel is a shoe the puck out of and is a school just in not just entities to >> we will be reaching out to the police department on if they have plans to make this program permanent reporting here in san jose. justin campbell kron. 4 news.

>> we're getting new details from san francisco police on last thursday's shooting that ended with 2 men dead. officers responded to the area and there they found 2 men in a fight with one of them carrying a knife during a virtual town hall friday, police released body cam video from that scene. >> so you got to drop the knife. you drop the knife right now, sir. and the song til you drop the knife. >> police say this video captured officers repeatedly telling one man, as you just heard to drop a knife, which they which officers say was pointed at rafale mendoza when the man wielding the knife refused for officers fired. a coroner later ruled that both men died of gunshot wounds.

the department of justice is now investigating coming up on the kron 4 morning news. some much needed relief could be coming for students. >> the biden administration considering to can considering canceling thousands of dollars in student debt. and only on kron 4. we're learning more on the investigation into the contra costa county sheriff fallen tear accused of distributing ghost guns. but the county's top cop is sharing.

♪ ♪ >> there are new developments in the case of the former sheriff's office volunteer accused of building and selling ghost guns in contra costa county kron four's haaziq madyun spoke exclusively with the contra costa county da about the investigation. >> are contra costa county sheriffs volunteer now charge kron four's learned this weekend. arrest warrant was issued for 54 year-old john key. the self tuesday. it has since posted bail. he had been charged with 2 felonies for illegally possessing a certain caliber of assault 2 different charges and he was also charged with one misdemeanor for manufacturing or assembling an unregistered firearm. also known as it gets going. >> the investigation is being led by the contra costa county district attorney's office.

admitting that law enforcement made the wrong decision. >> when responding to the shooting, authorities said 19 officers waited outside the classroom for more than an hour as the gunman shot and killed 19 students and 2 teachers. the director of the texas department of public safety shared friday morning at the commander on scene during tuesday's shooting thought the gunman was barricaded inside a classroom and that the children were not at risk. director steve mccraw call this the wrong decision. u.s. patrol border agents eventually used a master key to open the locked door of the classroom with a shot and killed the gunman. the new details causing more heartbreak for already grieving parents. >> what kind of jobs they have? i mean, they're like this isn't about on the back of car to protect and serve. protect why? why didn't protect you? >> following this new information, the texas governor says he's livid about what happened and that was

initially misinformed about how police handled the situation. the controversial police response to the texas school shooting continues to raise questions about officer training and decision-making kron four's. dan kerman got insight from some experts. >> want to very there's no no excuse for that. law enforcement authorities in texas admitted friday they should not have waited. 45 minutes. >> to re-engage the shooter who barricaded himself in a classroom with school kids, especially considering shooting, continued during that time frame. the protocol is very clear. you have no choice but >> stop the shooter from pulling the trigger. >> pierre, everybody knows if there's a you know, you go to the gun. go to that you confront the threat. yeah. and you want to neutralize and stop the threat. if it's ongoing, you know not you don't have the luxury of time. experts say given what's known now, law enforcement officials clearly made a mistake. it was the wrong call because they had an active shooter and they're the continued the

shooting killing of the kids. apparently they had. >> active shooter training and while the and a that part of texas. but apparently they needed to do some more trade. >> experts say that active shooter training must also include what happens when a suspect barricades himself with his victims. they also say there must be better coordination with schools before an incident happens. not just something you can read, but actual training. >> where there's interaction and where they have a protocol and then were they where they tell the school what to do when there's a line of communications set up. >> experts say investigators will have to determine whether it was poor training, her bed decision-making that led to the mistakes in texas. some are also calling for stepping up the way we protect our kids in school. >> thank you. need to have armed security, a deterrent, someone that that is trained with a firearm. they can do something about this.

during the daylight hours by sunset into tonight for the east bay and out of the south bay with temperatures largely in the 70's. got your 4 zone forecast. coming up in just a bit. stephanie. >> thanks very much. day the nra national convention or excuse me annual convention continues this weekend in houston, texas, just 300 miles from tuesday's mass shooting in uvalde. there were several calls from different organizations and politicians for the nra to cancel the event. but organizers went ahead as planned kron four's rob nesbitt reports on what happened opening day. >> the nra's convention is expected to draw around 55,000 attendees from friday to sunday. several speakers backed out. but that didn't stop others from voicing their opinions about the shooting at robb elementary school and gun before entering the door of houston's george r brown convention center. nra members were met with a chance and signs of protesters. senator scott wiener describes the

association's choice to have the convention 3 days after the uvalde school shooting as tone deaf. but it's not surprising because we are a stronger over and over again. >> but it could care less this mass shootings that are literally showing her children friday. speakers included nra leaders, senator ted cruz and former president donald trump. he started by reading the names of the 19 students and 2 teachers who were shot and killed tuesday. aletha. >> ramirez. >> leader listing off ways to prevent another mass shooting that included changing the approach to mental health and increasing security in schools. >> there should be strong exterior fencing, metal detectors and the use of new technology to make sure that no unauthorized individual could ever enter the school. some politicians and celebrities canceled their appearances on stage, including texas governor greg abbott. and unlike some, i didn't disappoint you by not showing up. governor abbott instead sent a pre-recorded

video saying stricter gun laws are not the answer. thousands of laws on the books across the country that limit. >> owning or using a firearms. laws that have not stopped mad men from carrying out evil acts on innocent people. senator wiener says the country should take california's lead a state laws that restrict the access to assault weapons and require strong background checks before purchase. we already have the strongest gun safety laws in the country. we also have. >> and one student, one of the lowest rates of gun violence. the nra's annual meetins is only open to members despite their common interests. attendees are prohibited from bringing any firearms or firearm accessories into the convention. reporting from the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> get this. some parents are turning to bulletproof backpacks in the wake of the texas school shooting. the man for this bulletproof gear is going up with many companies reporting an increase in purchases since the shooting.

these backpacks are designed so kids can protect themselves by holding the back pack up to their bodies to deflect bullets. the cost of a bulletproof backpack is not cheap. prices can range anywhere from 100 to $400. just can't believe that this is where we are now. giants manager gabe kepler says he will not be leaving the dugout for the national anthem in response to tuesday's shooting in uvalde friday morning. kepler posted a long piece to his personal blog explaining his decision to skip standing for the national anthem during games for the foreseeable future. explained that when he was a young boy, his father encouraged him to stand for the national anthem. only if he felt that the country was representing its people well, and he should sit if you thought that the country was not representing itself. well, kapur wrote, he is, quote, not okay with the state of this country. in response to the

shooting in texas, multiple school districts and police departments in the bay area are beefing up security kron four's. justin campbell explains the new program launched by san jose police. >> as you can imagine, this has been a hard emotional week for many parents in response to this mass shooting. the san jose police department says they want to make sure that parents and teachers feel safe in the classroom. they will increase patrols around schools. they will have 4 police vehicles with 2 officers in each one that will patrol all san jose schools. the program will run through june 10th. we spoke to parents about how they feel about the stepped up patrols. you also don't want to see them turn into like a militarized zone where >> it kind of ended with the patrols. looks like i guess so. i hope it. i know it will make me feel better in the short term. but i mean, it's not a long-term solution. unfortunately. >> i feel is a shoe the puck towed out of and is a school just in not just

dave. >> now to developing news, white house officials say they are planning to cancel some student loan debt. this comes after months of internal talks. the president plan to make the announcement as soon as this weekend. but the timeline changed after the shooting in texas. the white house's latest plan would cancel $10,000 in student debt per borrower. this would apply to americans who earned less than $150,000 in the last year. no word yet on the steps borrowers would need to take to get their debts canceled. assembly. democrats say they want to remove the leader of that house speaker anthony rendon from his position. kron four's. ashley zavala explains what's going on as lawmakers wrapped up work for the week. >> multiple sources confirm assembly democrats will try to remove anthony rendon from that powerful leadership position. now, the sources i spoke to spoke on the condition. they remain anonymous, but they are close to the situation unfolding here at the state capitol. they would not get specific but said a series of issues led to this point where a

much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie land. we have a lot to get to for ya. let's start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning, dave. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. quite a bit of cloud cover and fog going on. at least some parts across the bay. looks like it's returned a little bit to the golden gate kind of covering up the towers. >> looks good at sfo. by the way, no delays being reported there. half moon bay going to see quite a bit of fog going on through much of the day today at half moon bay and the coastal areas tomorrow. different story, though, we should see much better clearing, although temperatures will be subdued. looks like the sun trying to work its effort, though, to kind of mix out this fog. now back to the fog issue. it should mix out in most locations, even at the coast by little bit in the mid afternoon that we have some scattered clouds working back in here for the north bay. but by 5 o'clock and 6, 7, a cloud deck moves right overhead, which you can see through the fog footprints behind it. but notice how it clears up before dawn tomorrow. that will be with the cloud cover as well. and so sunday will be much different even from the get

there? >> well, stephanie, people can't wait to kick off their memorial day weekend with some live music wine food. i don't know if you can see it. but behind me, there's already a line for the v i p section people are waiting to get inside and let me just say the gates don't even open for another 2 and a half hours. one girl tell me that she's been in line since around 3.30, this morning. these people are all here to experience bottle rock in napa. here's a look at what day one looked like for the festival. there's so much to see and do. there's 5 stages and more than 75 artists scheduled to perform this weekend. today's lineup includes 21 pilots, the black crowes and many others. there's also the culinary stage where chefs dish out their favorite plates with some artists. now, i was here yesterday morning. one man has been waiting in line since 5 this morning. i spoke to him yesterday. he's back here

today. he also waited in line before the sun came out. he's been to bottle rock at least 6 times. and he says that part of the experience is camping out. >> part of the, you know, the wave and then doing everything in hand out all day is is the experience. so it's not just the the artist, the performers themselves. it's kind of all inclusive experience. day one was it was crazy was intense. but alec of both greta van fleet in metallica really brought quite an enthusiastic crowd with them. and i was up front for both and metallica just stole the show. i mean, they were over the top great. >> a few things to know if you are coming to bottle rock. don't bring cash. you can only pay with your credit card venmo or by registering your wristband. this year, there will be no vaccination testing or masking requirements. now, tickets are sold out for all 3 days, but people can try to request tickets through the

now admitting. >> that law enforcement made the wrong decision when responding to that shooting, authorities said 19 officers waited outside the classroom for more than an hour as the gunman shot and killed 19 students and 2 teachers. the director of the texas department of public safety sharing monday. more excuse me friday morning that the commander on scene during tuesday's shooting thought the gunman was barricaded inside a classroom and that the children were not at risk. director steve mccraw call this the wrong decision. u.s. patrol border agents eventually used a master key to open the locked door of the classroom where they shot and killed the gunman. the new details causing more heartbreak for already grieving parents. >> what kind of jobs they have. i mean, they're like this isn't about on the back of car to protect and serve. protect why? why didn't protect you? >> the following this new information the texas governor says he's livid about what

happened and that he was initially misinformed about how police handled this situation. that controversial police response to what happened in texas continues to raise questions about officer training and decision-making kron four's. dan kerman got some insight from experts. >> is a variant. there's no no excuse for that. law enforcement authorities in texas admitted friday they should not have waited. 45 minutes. >> to re-engage the shooter who barricaded himself in a classroom with school kids, especially considering shooting, continued during that time frame. the protocol is very clear. you have no choice but >> stop the shooter come pulling the trigger. pierre, everybody knows that there's a you know, you go to the gun. go to that you confront the threat again. you want to neutralize and stop the threat. if it's ongoing, you know, not you don't have the luxury of time. experts say given what's known now, law enforcement officials clearly made a mistake. >> it was the wrong call

because they had an active shooter and they're the continued the shooting killing of the kids. apparently they had. >> active shooter training and while the and a that part of texas. but apparently they need to do some more trade. >> experts say that active shooter training must also include what happens when a suspect barricades himself with his victims. they also say there must be better coerdination with schools before an incident happens. not just something you can read, but actual training. >> where there's interaction and where they have a protocol and then were they where they tell the school what to do when there's a me to shun set up. >> experts say investigators will have to determine whether it was poor training or bad decision-making that led to the mistakes in texas. some are also calling for stepping up the way we protect our kids in school. >> i think you need to have armed security, a deterrent, someone that that is trained

also charged with one misdemeanor for manufacturing or assembling an unregistered firearm. also known as it going. >> the investigation is being led by the contra costa countyn district attorney's office. this is exclusive video of the search warrant being served at the home of judge back on february. 1st of this year, mister cain allegedly gained access to guns, gun parts and for the technician while working at the sheriff's gun range in clayton. according to the probable cause document obtained by kron 4, he then sold it to civilians and sworn members of the contra costa county sheriff's office. i'm curious in light of your office and the sheriff's office been in communication about these allegations. >> we do not. but i do understand that i that the nation is still ongoing. and so that is always a possibility in the future. but that is an allegation crowd for first told you about this investigation earlier this month.
