going on for today. sfo. look at that over yonder. little dark out there that just a bit of fog bank going on check. no delays. happening in the cloud cover will be spreading off towards the east bay this afternoon. so you ask yourself little trip up a tahoe question. mark. >> here's what the forecast looks like. climbing steps. 64 tomorrow. 71 tuesday wednesday, 81, mostly sunny skies for this little period here. we're on to something here. you get the general trend that will be repeated in the bay little warm up for the middle of the week. temperature check for you. 71 for antioch, mid 60's off to the east bay. not a big decouple and we don't see along the east bay shoreline contrast with well inland up to the north bay, lower 60 67, san jose. hey, over the future cast for and you'll see some of the cloud cover start to spill on in a couple little sprinkles to be had out there. maybe a sprinkle here or there, but on balance will be the cloud cover colder temperatures and more humid. this is all coupled with that on shore. when we talk about as well clearing up very quickly by tonight, too, heading over to the winds, a

little breezy going on up there to solano county, the north bay and protect the off towards the east bay. the system drops to the south. it starts clearing out the skies in the north bay. and then the cloud cover starts to fill in to the south bay by this point overnight by tomorrow morning, a bit breezy along the coast and really across the wider bay. and that will settle down in the later morning hours. there's all the traffic we're missing. most of the rain is far up towards the north. clears out. high pressure. builds midweek, stop. this is our little he pump. and then the next system gets here in all. it gives us is cooler temperatures drive some winds and scattered clouds. we've seen this movie before. absent any substantial rain with any of that. of course, 4 zone forecast for the sunday, much reduced number. 67, san francisco to the coast, lower 60's. a couple 50's here and there 71 for burlingame to the south. look at that. upper 70 still. but lee says 87 on palo alto in redwood city, but there's little bit more of a warm by us to the south here, 80 san jose morgan hill. 84 80 for cupertino, east bay

>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 4 morning news >> hey, good morning. thank you so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. it's sunday june 12 and we have a lot to get to for you this morning. but let's start by kicking things off over to dave spahr in the weather center. hey, day a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and cloud cover in fog are hallmarks of what we're seeing going on today. >> not real were unusual. see some fog bank going on here at half moon bay. we didn't see that yesterday, though. >> and this is all going to be a cooling mechanism for us today. so we'll get that enjoyment out of that little bit more humid, though. we'll feel to the uptick the off towards the east bay. now, 71 for antioch. a lot of 60's control, the east bay little mercury movement. you can see 68 meanwhile for san jose and 57 san francisco with the general on flow onshore flow pattern, which we enjoy. that

also helps cases keeps us a little cooler were trailing a little today, which we expect with the cloud cover, helping out to half a dozen degrees behind for most of the geography and that negative 11 up there to the bottle. but they were kind of freakishly high yesterday morning. there's a look at stormtracker 4 noting some scattered showers far up towards the north for the bay. maybe a little bit of a sprinkle is a possibility statistically, but this system is basically the track to the northeast of our perspective. back to that fog bit. we'll see that clear out for the bay for the most part. but then tomorrow, repeat performance. no, not really. because the system will be passed us. so we'll be a little drier. but sunny, in clear. so the breakdown today, interesting enough. the cloud cover will spill into the east bay later today. so that will keep temperatures more suppressed. it will be a little warmer in the south bay. it will take longer to get down there. so temperatures will have a chance pop as they clear out of the north bay. late this afternoon. temperature check, most readings in the 70's. a couple scratch about 80 more in forecast in a bit.

stephanie, thanks very much, david. >> breaking news we're following. 3 people are dead after a shooting overnight in san jose. we have video from the scene. this is on crescent village circle and the shooting happened just before one this morning. we know 2 men and a woman died at the scene. investigation is still ongoing. but police say preliminary information shows that they believe that this incident was a murder suicide. this is the 15th and 16th homicides of the year in san jose. police have not said what led up to this shooting. we are expecting some more information from the department later today and we'll update you as soon as we have that. now international travel is going to become a whole lot easier for americans. the u.s. no longer requiring a negative covid-19 test to enter the country and this new policy went into effect at midnight. ryan bay spoke with experts about how this could impact tourism across the country. i think at

this point in the pandemic, i think it's something that >> just needs to so i think it's it's long overdue. >> passengers, you've been cleared for takeoff, covid test or not. travelers abroad flying to the u.s. will no longer need to show proof of a negative test before boarding their trip to the states. the cdc said based on the science and the data testing, international travelers is no longer needed to slow the spread of the virus. >> covid spread so much throughout the world. it's just everyone has in this everywhere now says really no stopping it. we really just are glad now it's dropping. we can actually travel internationally without any worries. >> that's not only relief for travelers like matthew but airline tourism groups. and even some politicians who've been lobbying the biden administration for months to drop the policy that's been in place since the start of last year. the president of airlines for america praised the move, saying the dropping the testing requirement. we'll encourage and restore air travel to the u.s. benefiting communities across the country that rely heavily on travel and tourism to support their local economies. and the data

seems to back him up on that. the u.s. travel association released an analysis this month saying international visitors are expected to increase by 18% after cutting the testing mandate, which will bring additional 9 billion in tourism revenue. a 12% book las vegas. nevada is certainly a city that will see a boost in overseas visitors, which is always been a money maker for sin city. about a congresswoman. dina titus represents the las vegas district said the testing requirement was the main deterrent and people visiting the u.s.. we want those international tours because they stay longer and they spend which means a big revenue boost for the entire tourism community. >> but especially airlines to charge a premium for international travel, which according to airlines for america, is still down. 24% from pre-pandemic levels. so sunday is the day that air carriers and travelers abroad have been waiting months for. >> it's going to be a lot easier. a lot easier have to get that protest and worry about that. so that worries away gone. it's it's it's going to be relief to people not needing to this. now.

>> hey, welcome back. time now for another check of our weather with meteorologist dave spahr is going to give us a closer look at conditions >> hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. we talked about the bay area. fog in cloud cover san jose state. different story going on in the south bay. lots of sunshine to start. we're seeing this also inland as well to off to the east bay. but don't forget, the cloud cover will be scratching off towards the east and south throughout the day today, making it down to the south bay by the latter portion of today, however, will probably see some better warming happening down south today, then off towards the east bay, current numbers, 73, antioch, a lot of 60 still in the east bay. 68 also for san jose and up to the north bay, lower to middle 60's as we go handing over to future cast for kind of see the pattern going on for today. what noticed a couple stray sprinkles are a possibility. but here we go by 5 o'clock already clearing out on the north bay as this cloud cover starts to settle south down the monterey bay clears out overnight will be left with some winds along the coast as well into tomorrow morning. a

little bit up in the north bay as well. so we're going to see those on shore winds really pick up quite a bit going forward. here's the coverage during the east bay in the north bay. for the most part this afternoon. however, with the passage of the system, here comes another dose overnight, as you'll notice, again, little stronger at the coast and you're seeing inland by tomorrow morning. so the game plan is this east bay shoreline shot all that cloud cover their bake clouds, variable clouds happening in lynn on balance today, humid and not as hot near about 80 lot of upper 70's to be had today, though, in spots that they this all 90, even as recently as yesterday, potentially this week, mostly sunny warming, 80's, 90 ish for wednesday. that's the heat pump day the next weekend. back to the 70's. everything breaks down again. another system passes dry for us, unfortunately, but it will be the cloud cover and colder temperatures we're talking about and also a bit of moisture at the surface here friday, some scattered clouds mostly sunny by our saturday. so we open up the skies. it looks like into next weekend,

prime customers take legal action against amazon for a delivery policy change. the e-commerce giant now facing a class action lawsuit after the company stopped offering prime members free delivery from whole foods. amazon started charging customers $9 and $0.95 for whole foods delivery last year. that suit suggests amazon misled customers by implying the free deliveries still part of a prime subscription and amazon advertise is only part of that price revealing the fee at the end of the buying process. according to the lawsuit. 500,000 doses of the monkey pox vaccine. now coming to the u.s. there have been 45 confirmed cases of monkeypox in 15 states, including right here in the bay area earlier this month. alameda county reported its first suspected case and just last thursday, san francisco announced 3 additional probable cases of the virus. if confirmed, that would bring the total number of cases in the city to 4 at san francisco. in some cases

cloud cover and all of that is going to start generally speaking from the north, although it's a west to east travel, see kind of spreading out to the east bay in the south bay, clearing up to the north dropping south. so we'll get a lot of sunshine in the south bay to start in the east bay early in the day. then all of that starts dropping south, clearing out of the north bay in its wake. also will be some winds overnight and that will die off by tomorrow morning handed over future cast for here. they're pretty good coverage with us. good, strong onshore wind all working to keep those temperatures down. then after sunset, we start cooling off in the east bay. the front is going to drive some of these winds along the coast. you'll notice a lot less activity happening in the far east bay by tomorrow morning. and again, we won't deal with the fog issues like we did this morning at all because it will be post the front. so little bit actually humid in the east bay a little bit in the south bay to cision warm up to those upper 70's and they feel a little warmer stuff. you're then typically you would expect. all right. what we have going on this week ahead by wednesday or so,

seemingly daily with no relief in sight for bay area. customers. the nationwide average gas price. now $5 a gallon. that's according triple a americans drive more in the summer months. so demand is up the ongoing invasion of ukraine by russia is also to blame for the increase in prices along with issues tied to the pandemic, which continue to limit the amount of oil that can be refined. and let's take a look at price is right here in the bay area. you're going to pay the most in sandra fell $6.66 is the average there. now? is it for cisco? you'll pay $6 and $0.64. you can also see the prices for napa. oakland, san mateo richmond, san jose and santa rosa on your screen right now coming in at $6.6 for santa rosa. there certainly not cheap. a kron fourts. amanda hari spoke with some drivers with some saying they are not able to fully their tanks because of those high prices. >> i spoke to some people that

clearing in the north and this is not so much his bona fide fog, but also showed you the moisture levels as cloud cover along with this in the east and the south bay is now impacted by this point that then clears out overnight tomorrow morning. we're not left with much of anything so we won't have our typical morning fog going on here. clear skies. little bit of a breeze, though. you're going to have put up towards the coast and that will subside as we approach around the noon hour. quick check into those winds. most of the action is up north solano county and off to the east bay. we're getting some winds clipping at a good bit. there you notice in the teens. temperatures, though, in the 70's. so we have some inland warming happening. 60's around the immediate bay. so for today, increasing late day clouds off to the east and the south temperature check in the 70's for the most part everybody's cooler. however, it may not feel that way in some spots due to the fact that stop the feeling you feel sometimes in august and september. ya got some more humidity. that's in atmosphere, which we do need is a fire retardant coming up in a bit. of course, i'll have

your 4 zone forecast in check. and that extended to stephanie. thanks very much, dave. >> breaking news. senate negotiators just announced a bipartisan agreement on gun reform. this comes just after the mass shootings in buffalo, new york and uvalde texas. the plan is endorsed by 10 republicans and democrats. the compromise would create funding for mental health resources, school, safety and grants for states to implement red flag laws that allow authorities to confiscate guns from people believed to be dangerous. it would also expand the nation's background check system to include juvenile records for any prospective gun buyers under the age of 21. president biden has said that while the plan does not do everything he thinks is needed to address gun violence, it is a step in the right direction. no word yet on when the senate might actually vote on a piece of legislation. but we're we are following this developing story for you. a new this morning. oakland police say that they collected over 131

guns during yesterday's guns to gardens got buyback event. these are some photos of some of the weapons turned over the campaign will see the guns turned in repurpose to into gardening tools for the city. people brought in pistols, shotguns, and even an ak 47 assault rifle opd handed out over $10,000 in gift cards in exchange for those weapons. 35 years ago this week, the first panels of the aids memorial quilt were stitched in san francisco this weekend. more than 3,000 panels are being displayed in golden gate park. this is the quilts largest display in more than a decade has called for is believed to go reports. it honors those who passed away from the disease and reminds people that aids is still taking lives. >> each panels spends 3 feet by 6 feet symbolizing the size of a grave, reminding visitors of the aids memorial quilt on display in golden gate park

originally supposed to be the final show back in 2021. but the site where they were supposed to perform flooded, postponing the final show. other acts this year include old crow medicine show and leann rimes sounds like it's going to be a great time. some angry prime customers take legal action against amazon for a delivery policy change. the e-commerce giant faces a class action lawsuit after the company stopped offering prime members free delivery from whole foods. amazon started charging customers 9.95. for whole foods delivery last year. the suit claims that amazon misled customers implying free delivery was still part of a prime subscription. with just a matter of days. covid vaccines for children under the age of 5 are expected to get federal approval in anticipation of this move. pharmacies have started placing orders for the shots. young kids of the only group of americans not yet eligible for the covid

vaccine. the fda and cdc both expected to meet next week to discuss approving the vaccine for that age group. and if it is approved, then those shots could start going into arms as soon as june. 21st. 500,000 doses of the monkey pox vaccine are coming to the u.s. they've been 45 confirmed cases of monkeypox in 15 states, including right here in the bay area in california earlier this month. alameda county reported its first suspected case and just last thursday, san francisco announced 3 additional suspected cases of the virus. if confirmed, that would bring the total number of cases in san francisco to 4 more than 1300 cases have been reported in roughly 30 countries. but officials say there's still only a low risk to the american public at this time. inflation hits a new 40 year high, the cost of gas food and most other services is up.

8.6% from the same time last year. this is the biggest increase since 1981 and puts pressure on the fed to keep raising interest rates. >> a poll a new poll rip are reportedly showed 3 in 5 americans disapprove of president biden's handling of the economy. >> but the president says his administration is making moves to get things in the right direction. >> i would never seen anything like putin's both food and gas. america should also understand our economy has unique strengths that we can build on the job market is the strongest. been since world war. 2 not withstanding inflation. we add another 390,000 jobs last month. 1 million, 700,000 new jobs since it took office an all time record never that many jobs and that too. >> the president says inflation is a global issue and not just a national one.

as some people might sound too good to be true, but could a four-day workweek actually happen? and if it does, could benefit both workers and companies in the long run, sloane glass has more on the thousands of uk employees who will be working 4 days a week for the next 6 months. >> the dream of a four-day workweek where employees could spend one less day in the office without seen any cut to their pay. now over reality for thousands of employees in the uk. more than 3,000 workers across 70 companies participating in the 6 month pilot program beginning monday from tax specialist to fish and chip chefs. researchers at cambridge university, oxford university and boston college will assess the shortened workweeks effect on productivity and quality of life. with results expected sometime in 2023. and while this is the largest study of the four-day workweek, it's far from the first microsoft

tested the program for their employees in japan in 2019 and so productivity shoot up by a whopping 40%. and in new zealand, prime minister jacinda ardern has suggested a shorter workweek could save the country's economy, but relying on residents rather than tourists to spend money locally on their extra day off. what started as a pilot program is now becoming permanent in the city of morgantown, west virginia, after city leaders saw overwhelmingly positive results. it's pretty positive support. but i think the lack >l negativity and the strong support and the but going from a firm that employs i i don't see it going away. >> four-day workweeks lead to higher employee satisfaction without a noticeable drop in productivity. it can also help companies retain employees longer something even more important to employers as

going to be felt right here in the bay as well. temperatures check for you. we have seen a lot of movement. the 60's have been very, very recalcitrant here along the east bay shoreline. but meanwhile, the 70's to the far east bay 60's up to the north bay. 71. meanwhile, san jose heading over future cast for kind of a tale of 2 different types of the bay going on here in the east bay cloud cover will fill in the south bay as well. then late in the day start to clear out of the north bay here. now temperatures will be on the warm in the south. it will be probably the warmest sector of the bay today overnight. this all clears out. we have the winds still with us. by the way. and then tomorrow morning off to kind of a sunny start, we won't have the intrusion of the fog like we did this morning. back to those winds on shore. they are for today. good coverage area up there in the north bay, too. once the front drops looking at right here overnight. we'll have the winds continuing at the coast even by tomorrow morning. not so much inland, but at least the coast in the morning hours before it subsides will get the afternoon breeze checking in again. so what's going all

of this is the system up towards our north. we have some scattered showers up in northern california. that departs. then we have a high that builds midweek. we'll call this a heat pump because it's only return to the 90's. briefly, just one day breaks down in time for the next weekend. however, all of the messiness that means that cloud cover all that stuff. that probably will be cleared out for friday. and then for the weekend looking good. will take care of that piece of business on friday. and then by the weekend, clear out and go back to sunny 4 zone forecast. looks like this today. 67 san francisco to the coast will keep it middle to lower 60's at that. 71 burlingame, by the way, a lot of fog going on to the coast as well. be the case all the way sunset 79 for palo alto in the south bay, where around 80. but we see some middle 80's out of the south morgan hill. 84, 80 cupertino to looks like 79 for santa clara, east bay shoreline to the south mid 70's tri valley, upper 70's, but not a big a decoupling with temperatures like we saw yesterday and friday. 77 concord and walnut creek. 77. meanwhile, 72 san

leandro 71 for oakland. 65 allay onshore winds in place. thank you. 77 fairfield, 74 for napa and 77 going on for santa rosa ahead of the 70 forecast. there's our bump on wednesday at 91. it breaks down on friday reduction of temperatures. but we're back to mostly sunny by saturday. coastal numbers kind of chilly. they stay in the 60's. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> racism is now a public health crisis in oakland. the city council voted unanimously to pass the measure this week. and for more on what this means for oakland residents, we went straight to the source. joining me live now is oakland's race and equity director darlene flynn and see murray pawnee with the oakland city attorneys office. thank you so much to the both of you for being here with us today. >> thank you for having us care. >> all right. so much question for, you know, we know that the city's a city attorney's office started the ball rolling on this initiative. so what factors or trends did you

notice in oakland that led you to say, hey, it's time to declare racism, a public health crisis? so, you know, this resolution is really sparked by the recognition that structural racism has created a public health crisis in oakland and that we have a responsibility to address it. and i'm an untrained and, you know, the office barbara parker and of his city attorney. and she has a real interest in addressing these issues and and in the community learning and civil rights unit where racial justice as a part of our work and we were noticing that, you know, structural racism has existed for centuries and has always impacted communities of color here. but during the pandemic, the inequity is that they came more pronounced. they were growing. they were becoming more exposed, particularly with covid and, you know, housing and homelessness and economic disparities. and there was just a responsibility to acknowledge what was happening

%pand to take steps to address it. >> did you notice some of those trends you just mentioned getting worse because of the pandemic. >> yeah, i'd say so. i mean, i think director flynn might be position to speak to this. >> i think that the pandemic, certainly me the disparities more visible to people in country that might not have been paying attention to systemic racism and its impacts prior to it also tends to exacerbate the impacts on communities that are already stressed by racial inequities. and we will see this and other disasters as well like hurricane katrina. big stressor hits a community, really highlights how what the underlying conditions have been for a long time. and that's why the department of race inequity was from secures. that was because we

had we have these disparities already operating in our city and across the nation. so we've been working on it for a while. but covid definitely change that. the landscape dramatically because of the stress of the and we know the city council passed this measure this week. >> you know, how will that advance equity in the city of oakland? how do you envision that happening? >> i think that the additional resources that are provided well enable the department of race equity and the rest of the city, other city departments to do a better job telling the story of tracking our impacts and are improvements over time as we work to remove the barriers to access for marginalized communities in oakland so that how good data and being able to use that that effect of women and allies keep track of what our efforts are bringing is really important to keeping momentum on addressing systemic racism. so these additional resources are going

to that part of the worktop. >> it's my understanding. also, it's going to also allocate some funding to create some new positions for staff on your team as well as that right. >> it's actually one position and some consulting assistance because we need some technical work on our systems for tracking data being able to produce got reports of that sort of thing. so it's a combination one full-time equivalent. 1, one employee in the department race equity. that will be a day to day the >> and seeing that you kind of touched on this in your earlier response. to either one of you, you walk us through how the pandemic really laid bare the health inequities facing people of color. and how is the city taking steps to address those issues? >> yeah, i can speak a little and then handed over to director flynn whose work really focuses on race and equity in department focuses on that. >> you know, we it there has always a crisis in terms of

racism and its impact communities and i think during the pandemic, what we noticed was that the highest of covid-19 were in the east open flatlands where there are also a lot of renters who vulnerable to displacement. but there are also a lot of economically vulnerable households and communities and really families and communities who had been. impacted by the housing crisis by, you know, the way that wages and other things aren't keeping up. winds, the cost of housing and housing availability and where, you know, the social determinants of health, meaning, you know, basically every measurable category of social and economic conditions affects a person's health. and so these communities were already being impacted by these by so many factors. and during the pandemic, it just became clear that you know, particularly black and latinx communities

where we're facing. yeah, greater greater hardship and overburdened disproportionately by covid-19 and buy the impact of the pandemic has had on our economy. and, you know, has taken a number of steps. to try to address this in this resolution. actually listen up. some of the progress has been made in the city over the last 5 years, especially since the department of race inequity was created. and that includes, you know, there's so much work. i mean, the city attorney's office actually have a housing justice initiative that's been working really hard to protect tenants during the pandemic. so i you know, i can mention that office but director flight and i don't know if you want to talk more about other steps that you're at your department and the city has taken. >> i came out of the approaches to work through all the departments to have an impact in their areas of work. and so we quite a few merge

everything from cannabis equity programming. the first in the country about aware then moving on to to looking at our capital investments in communities disinvest because of structural racism around paving and street conditions and safety in their neighborhoods. so we have begun to prioritize and begun level up the communities that have been left behind. but we know that because straight structural racism has but an embed of so deeply and for so long. but we have a great deal more to do. so this this both both the pointed out, some of the accomplishments that we have to. reemphasize the argument for putting more effort into this because our communities have not been adequately that was supported south. this is an ongoing effort. and i i think that the one of the things that was really exciting to me was to have this resolution come forward from the city attorney's office to support my work and support the city council and the citywide work
