nation's highest court. finally, more people are starting to trickle in today. at this time yesterday, there were hundreds, if not thousands of people out here right now. there's a couple 100 speeches have started. and if it's anything today like what it was yesterday is going to be a lot of people out here. take a look. this morning as the sun rose behind the highest court in the land. >> it's likely to bring a second day of raw emotion. >> we're not going backwards. we are not going backwards. from obviously overjoyed. lot of us cried. happy tears. you're hanging out with decision. if you want to see where the debate on abortion stands in america, look no further than right outside the supreme court were after the news broke. the crowd outside grew bigger and bigger. i remember there were actual. >> classmates i had in high school who died from illegal abortions and i do not want to go back to that. everybody said that the court legislate from the bench today. they didn't. they gave legislative powers back to the people. so now what people want in their

respective states, they can vote on it. and it's beyond the killers of our nation's highest court where the 9 justices live justice brett kavanaugh lives in montgomery county, maryland, a suburb of washington, d.c.. >> outside of his home last night, anger. >> i think unfortunately, we need to inconvenience these people at their home so that they realize that the impact that they have >> u.s. marshals now providing enhanced security outside of the places that supreme court justices call home back in washington. one protester taking his message to new heights climbing on top of a bridge writing on twitter. i'm at the top of the frederick douglass bridge and want to know why you aren't in the streets. nonviolently shutting down the government day after day after day. so congress protects abortion rights. yes, outside of the supreme court right now. like i said, there's about 100 people who

are protesting. i hear abort. the court is one of the main messages. >> that people are chanting here. we're also keeping our eyes on a candlelight vigil that is for tonight. but tomorrow night at 09:00pm, it will happen right at the bottom of the steps here. nation's highest court. stephanie, back to you. >> when history there, thank you so much, joseph, for that live report. and people who oppose abortion celebrated the supreme court's decision about a dozen people gathered outside the planned parenthood offices in walnut creek. one of the people there telling kron 4 she started crying when she got the news and had been praying for the supreme court's decision. but one pastor said this victory is just temporary. >> he's going to put it on the ballot for the citizens of california to vote abortion rights into our constitution. so it's a very short term for california. >> antiabortion demonstrators rallied outside of this clinic before and not always

peacefully. the walnut creek city council adopted an ordinance earlier this year creating an 8 foot buffer zone between activists and patients. the supreme court's decision continues to mobilize abortion rights activists rallies unfolding across the country, including right here in the bay area from forced to reassess. stasio takes us inside some of those protests. from san francisco to the south bay bay area. residents speaking out about the supreme court's decision rolling back roe v >> demanding choices in pledging to fight for reproductive rights. about 100 people gathered at the ferry building friday. wise is so important to be out >> because if we don't have choice, we and i think that abortion is health care. there's plenty of different reasons that women with the abortion outside of reproductive right, that she should have the option to

choose whether or not you want raise a child, especially when we have conservatives who want to have children. and don't want to support us with welfare for other services check out the sign reading, quote, i hope someday women have more rights than guns. >> that following the supreme court's decision earlier in the week blocking a new york law banning carrying weapons in cobb they really important because because all the regulations, i mean, guns. yesterday we found out of today's got more important than ones bodies, which is never the right answer. if we don't speak up, nobody well, the crowd took their chance down market street seeking abortion across america. >> it is made us second-class citizens and this was the scene in santa clara, a group banding together to voice their concerns about frustration with the court's actions. also in san mateo friday evening, a large crowd held a rally to express their support for choice earlier in the month, the san mateo county board of supervisors announced offering more aid to planned parenthood to protect

access to reproductive choices, more rallies and protests against the court's decision are expected throughout the weekend. terry says stasio kron 4 news. >> and we have a look at pro abortion rallies across the bay area today. 10, 15 this morning. congressman eric swalwell holds an event at planned parenthood and hayward. there's also an event later this morning outside of city hall at 10 and another rally happens at 11 in oakland in snow park. coming up, the overturn of roe v wade raisin worry over the future of same marriages. >> the reaction from the bay area, lgbtq community. and sick of sky-high gas prices. relief could be on the way california lawmakers reaching a tentative deal in the gas replace rebate plan. details straight ahead.

the plan is set to provide larger refunds to low income households. an official vote is still needed before. this all goes into effect. and it's all part of a larger state budget agreement. the governor and legislators are expected to reveal soon. starting today. face masks can come off again inside most buildings in alameda county. that decision took effect at midnight since the county says the covid case rate is improving. masks will still be required inside health care settings, correctional facilities, homeless shelters and long-term care facilities. alameda county became the only bay area county, too, reintroduce a indoor mask mandate earlier this month. >> could be caught and warm today. again, we have temperatures in the 90's. well inland, it looks like that's going to hold for a couple days, certainly for this weekend. look at forecast. we come back

for the next well for the weekend, only into the week, but there is a change on the 2nd half of the week. up ahead, 60 at this hour now conquered 68 already. antioch. 61 for livermore got a lot of 50's lighting up the east bay shoreline. 52 santa rosa and a bottle. 54. meanwhile, 4 san francisco check into our winds with that inland heating. we see the afternoon breeze kick in will help keep numbers like in valais hold out a little bit more than they've seen from last week. but wind will pick up around the carquinez strait out towards the delta. meanwhile, out to the coast again, it will be breezy all day today. keeping those temperatures into the 60's here is that again, the resurgence happening tomorrow. at least we're getting this afternoon breeze when that highs in the right spot, sometimes that shuts completely off and we get no relief at all. high pressure to the south of us. so it's not anchored in the right spot to turn that all off. so very hot conditions prevail to the south, but well inland. of course, we'll be into the 90's. that's a given this weekend. it's sunny, warm for the bay hot inland 80's bay

adults and the right to same marriage. >> are there are 5 votes for this? there are not 5 votes for this. chief justice roberts is clearly not going to vote for that. at least not today. i think justice kavanaugh who wrote a separate opinion today is not going to vote for that. but what it shows the importance of presidential elections. the presidential election is huge in the next 6 years they're going to be they can we have to keep especially after this morning with the future unknown married, same couples are ready to battle again. >> both those who just got married and those who've been together for decades. >> we do that by voting in november by getting involved in where the people who put these people on the are up for election. we need to do everything. and that involves standing up and speaking up for for our relationships, for the very dignity of lgbt

reportedly driving with his grandmother and 2 children. officers say call during shot and killed a man near mount shasta and mount this to drive. and then he drove to modesto where police say he shot and killed the mother of his 6 month-old son and then brutally attacked his grandmother in gilroy. speaking on friday, chief matt appraise, the actions of the officers involved. >> suspect calderon census lee killed 2 people. and when finally confronted by the san jose police department. and the highly populated neighborhood, he opened fire on them at last ditch effort to escape. this in danger. not only the pursuing officers. innocent members of our community. >> the chief says 2 officers fired at the suspect. both are on routine administrative leave. in san francisco. police arrest a suspect in connection to a deadly shooting on a muni train that happened this week. 26

year-old jovan green is now in custody. police arrested him thursday night in pittsburgh near the easy stuff. laundromat on power avenue. this is an image from surveillance video that helped lead to greene's arrest. police say he shot a 70 year-old man and killed a 27 year-old on a muni train wednesday after an argument. the cdc now recommends the 2 dose moderna vaccine for kids 6 to 17. there were concerns about increased risks of heart inflammation for boys. but the cdc said the risk of heart inflammation from a positive covid infection is higher. more than 600 people between the ages of 5 to 17 have died from covid during the pandemic. more than 45,000 have been hospitalized. >> still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news. the overturn of roe v wade raising new questions about online privacy. details after the break.

it also prevents convicted domestic abusers from buying guns, regardless of whether they were married to their victim. the bill gives money to states to help enhance red flag laws and money for mental health services and making schools safer. president biden says these new laws don't do everything that he wanted, but he says that they will save lives. privacy concerns have come into question after the supreme court ruling on roe v wade. there's concern that states could criminally prosecute women for seeking abortion and you cell phone records and internet searches as evidence. kron four's ella sogomonian brings us perspective from an attorney. >> san francisco based nonprofit electric frontier foundation released a guide on their website for women seeking an abortion in states where it is illegal. it's a reminder of the importance of digital discretion in the event that with probable cause their phone or computer is subpoenaed as evidence. the tips shared include choosing a

several fires broke out within minutes of each other, prompting evacuations earlier this week. kron four's rob nesbitt spoke with firefighters about the ongoing fire danger. >> firefighters are inside this large park just north of port costa working through what they call the mop up stage. looking for any hot spots or extensions that could spark a new flame. 120 acres in port costa. now look like this black charred soil left behind from the scenic fire that started thursday afternoon. >> it wasn't the only one. cal fire crews were responding to 5 large fires at once in the bay area. according to fire captain david riley. it's a scenario that his firefighters train for were prepared to head to handle multiple 6 that incidences at one time. that. >> if it does occur, we do have the resources that are available and were designed as a department agency and as a mutual aid with multiple departments to assist us in multiple multiple says that currently time cal fire says that even with multiple wildfires thursday, there were

no injuries or homes damaged. crews are investigating a building that was damaged by the canyon fire in pleasanton. but don't believe it was a building that people were living in dry golden fields combined with a lack of rain over the years are to blame for the fast spreading flames. according to captain riley, just the multiple years of drought that we've been having here in california has increased a fire hazard and fire risk that we had here in the state, which does increase the possibility for multiple insist. he says that cal fire and other fire agencies are active in communities working with fire, safe councils to fight hazardous areas. they then work to reduce fuel hazards to control burns and other measures while also keeping a watchful eye on weather conditions. if we look at it as the by day basis, but we also look at and we can't we can't seen with the potential of what the weather will do increase the fire hazard in the area. fire activity in the area while firefighters battled hotspots here, there were 2 vegetation fires that started in other areas. one in morgan hill and the other in clayton cal fire says there's no risk to the

of the bay, but sadly, our ocean is not as healthy as it once was. here to discuss ways we can all help our melissa and alejandro with the cal academy of sciences in san francisco. thank you so much for joining us. bright and early this morning. thank you for having us. so you know that one of the biggest challenges facing our oceans today. well, the biggest 10 until oceans the ocean. he's facing these days is climate change >> so oceanside had an important role our life and we don't realize but one those functions that they play is moving water masses from the equator to the poles and that helps to cool down the water drain doing that. it also subservient energy and also a car from site. so i say do the environment, they water environment gets much more a city can in warm and that has an impact in different species of particle. that inquiry said he's been the subject of my study. they increase of temperature, cole says beat and that's the association in

biden. now this comes as the supreme court this week struck down a new york state law restricting who can get a permit to carry a gun in public. here's the back story. this new york law had been in place since 1913 requiring new yorkers to prove an actual need to carry a concealed handgun in public. the justices this week said the law conflicts with the second amendment right to bear arms. now states like ours, california could be forced to introduce new measures to make sure guns will not be allowed in public places. i spoke with congressman mike thompson about this. he's a gun owner himself and he told me he was not surprised by the supreme court's decision. >> it's troubling in my view because it's going to hurt states and there efforts to keep their community safe. >> this this is something i think we're all going press for. my colleagues and i are concerned about gun violence

u.s. juul is headquartered in san francisco. and earlier this week, the fda said that jewel gave insufficient and conflict data about potentially harmful chemicals in its products. we reached out to join. they did not want to go on camera, but the company's chief regulatory officer did respond in a written statement saying they disagree with the fda's findings and they believe jewel appropriately categorized the toxicological profile of juul products. the company adding it is now exploring options, including appealing the fda's decision. now, as of today, it appears that juul has been successful in buying itself some time. joining me now to discuss a san francisco supervisor shamann walton who introduced legislation banning e-cigarettes in the city. thank you so much for joining us this morning. thank you so much for having stephanie. a back in 2019, both you and then city attorney dennis herrera. you called on the fda to review the safety of

e-cigarettes. so what's your reaction to the court's decision to temporarily block the fda's orders this week? >> well, you know, i'm excited about the fact that the fda decided to toe due to remove the products from the shelf. we obviously knew how harmful they were. they were addicting young people to nicotine and eventually tobacco. and so that's why we fought hard to ban e-cigarettes here in san francisco. just like when we benes agrees to jewel stepped in and tried to commit a ballot measure to overturn our law here in san francisco. so i expect them to continue to do everything they can to continue to young people versus be responsible and get their products out of our stores. >> any reaction to specifically about the this temporary in response to the fda's decision? >> we have excited about the man. i'm glad that, you know, the fda decided to come on board and say we're not going to have a company put products in our stores that are going to be harmful to young people that are going get people to nicotine for futures to come

and quite frankly, there have been dishonest about what's in there and they're cartridges. and that's something that we know a long time ago here in san francisco. so i'm glad that the federal government has stepped in to to make sure that these harmful products are not getting in the hands of children. i suppose i should rephrase and you know what any concern about of this this court's decision blocking the fda's orders? yeah, definitely concerned. any time. you know, the courts come in. i mean, we've seen recently that the courts have been wrong. >> and on the wrong side of history with there with overturning roe versus wade is sickening. and it's something that, you know, of course, we want to make sure doesn't continue that they uphold decisions of what the people want to see and our community so definitely concerned, but also i know that you can prevail over big tobacco and you can prevail over companies like juul because we did here in san francisco. >> and what was it like calling out one of the fastest growing companies in your city? and what did you do? it? >> i was newly elected to the board of supervisor at the time people thought we were

crazy. but the city attorney and i, you know, both knew that these products were harmful to our children. parents will come to us in droves. talk about what was happening in their children's middle schools and even some cases elementary schools. plus jewell was located in my district. and so that was something that we can not stand for. and that's why we fought hard to make sure that these harmful vroducts were off the shelves in san francisco. >> so there are a number of e-cigarette, vaping product makers out there. do you feel like juul is being singled out here? >> what they the cigarettes are bad for children, particularly the ones that are marketing our young people in so julius, the biggest company, the biggest profit maker and if we get the you know, they say if you cut off the head, then that kills the body of, you know, what's harmful to our communities. and so jewel is the company that has been the most irresponsible. they're the most vocal about continuing to be they're responsible. so most certainly we need to cut off the head. >> in san francisco and you are you played a large role in banning e-cigarettes back in

2020. and what do you say to those small local businesses that have sold a lot of for tobacco products continue to sell those types of say that they were hurt financially because they were no longer able to sell e-cigarettes. but we went through a process here in san francisco, working with our small businesses and a lot of them were upset when we first introduced. >> legislation but we've set up a mitigation group to work through ways and strategies to effectively help our small businesses. and so those are the types of strategies that i think other cities can do across the country because at the end of the day, protecting our children is more important in and what sort of resources are available for small businesses who might be feeling, you know, some of the pinch because of the pandemic in not being able to sell these types of products will hear san francisco. we obviously provided no interest business loans. we also provided grants for a small business and that was a result of the pandemic. we've done some things around, decreasing

permitting fees and even eliminating certain fees and really been working to support our small businesses as continue with our law to ban e-cigarettes and drug addiction in the city of san francisco. it is. it still appears to be quiet. >> prevalent some quite obvious when you work. well, go out any city block here. what steps is your office taken to address that issue where they taken it to taking to address that issue it comes to drug abuse. obviously, we've been a major promoter of street crisis. >> response team that goes and community with people with mental health expertise with people with substance abuse expertise, trying to get people to support and help they need to get off drugs and to take away addictions. and we're going to continue to support programs like that so that folks can get the help that they need to be cleaned. it. >> and what, in your opinion, is it going to take to get illegal drugs off the streets of san francisco? but the kid starts one education. you know, we have to start with

already affected your clinics? >> you know, the decision back the supreme court to not act to intervene when texas since 2 did their van affected our clinics back in september? so since one state it banned abortion september, we've had about 1500 folks coming from out of state already. so we have been if affected we have been planning for that day since september. really when we put together the future of abortion council to make sure that california had capacity. is it ready to take on patients, whether they're here in california, they have to travel outside of the state. they live in. but certainly we expect to be impacted. >> so the additional people coming in that specific to the state of california >> yes, specific to the state of california. and it's specific to taxes instituting their band. but it's certainly

not patients only from texas. so that's the nature of how this works. is people those that closes state. that impacts whether or not they can get an appointment and then go to a different state. and so we've had folks coming all the way from texas, but certainly from other states that have been impacted as well. >> and what kind of adjustments and changes have you at your local in response to the overturned? >> sure. i mean, we represent 7 different affiliates that run over 100 health centers. but at the policy level, we put together a council that that has a blueprint for what the state needs to do. there's legislation currently going through the legislature, investments in the budget proposals, but some of those are to expand workforce there certainly are in the new clinics that will that will be to ensure capacity, but also things like ensuring protections for providers if

they are taking care of patients out of state, no matter what other states are doing and then abortion, navigators patient navigators and that is that are helping patients as they navigate that >> you know, support that they need for traveling or lodging or child care. those types of things. >> and we know that there is the real possibility that patients seeking abortion care could be harassed. can you walk us through the plan to create buffer zone, buffer zones around your facilities? >> sure. at the local level, there's been many ordinances that have been put in place. we're fortunate in california where many, many policymakers have really rolled up their sleeves to look at needs to be done there's plenty of investments and the budget proposals that allow for additional security and needs for for health centers. >> and again, protections, whether that's confidentiality

say fired at officers twice before he was shot. investigators say the incident started tuesday when calderon was driving with his grandmother and 2 kids. police say calder and shot and killed a man near mount shasta and mount vista drive. he then drove to modesto where police say he shot and killed the mother of his 6 month-old son and then brutally attacked his grandmother and gilroy. speaking on friday, on to praise the actions of his officers. >> suspect calderon census lee killed 2 people. and when finally confronted by the san jose police department. and the highly populated neighborhood, he opened fire on them at last-ditch effort to escape. this in danger. not only the pursuing officers. innocent members of our community.

for domestic violence offenders not married to their partners. it also sets of funding for states to pass red flag laws allowing police or relatives to petition a court to remove guns from a person considered a threat to themselves or others. the measure also fund school safety and youth mental health programs. now this bill, again, president joe biden has signed this morning and this all comes as the supreme court this week struck down a new york state law restricting who can get a permit to carry a gun in public. now, here's the back story. the new york law had been in place since 1913, and it requires new yorkers to prove an actual need to carry a concealed handgun in public. well, this week the justices said that law conflicts with the second amendment right to bear arms. now states like ours, california could be forced to introduce new measures to make sure guns will not be allowed in public places. i spoke with north bay congressman mike thompson

fire crews were responding to 5 large fires at once in the bay area. according to fire captain david riley. it's a scenario that his firefighters train for were prepared to head to handle multiple 6 that incidences at one time. that. >> if it does occur, we do have the resources that are available and were designed as the department has agency and as a mutual aid with multiple departments to assist us in multiple multiple. is the current time cal fire says that even with multiple wildfires thursday, there were no injuries or homes damaged. crews are investigating a building that was damaged by the canyon fire in pleasanton. but don't believe it was a building that people were living in dry golden fields combined with a lack of rain over the years are to blame for the fast spreading flames. according to captain riley, just the multiple years of drought that we've been having here in california has increased a fire hazard and fire risk that we had here in the state, which does increase the possibility for multiple insist. he says that cal fire and other fire agencies are active in communities working with fire, safe councils to fight hazardous areas. they
