however, that fog comes back again for tomorrow. the letter for you, though, temperatures will be racing were so we've got a lot of 50's lighting up the east bay shoreline, some 60's off to the far east bay mid to upper 50's up there the north bay. 59 for san jose. the breakdown for you basically sunny the inland already. 72 by 11 by 2. we're talking about 80 again, a little heat spike working in here for monday or excuse me sunday, monday. well, more on that coming up in a bit. stephanie. >> thanks very much. day starting the morning off with an update on monkeypox, a group of san francisco lawmakers now blasting the federal government for its response to the growing number of cases in the bay area as kron four's. dan kerman reports, they're calling it a public health failure. >> as the spread of monkeypox continue, san francisco state legislators, scott wiener and matt haney are calling out the federal government for poor planning when it comes to the vaccine. we need to go faster because the virus is spreading.

>> it at a minimum for anyone. >> we've got to it. it's not just going to be as it can be extremely painful. >> the biden administration is now it's beginning monday will begin shipping an additional 144,000 doses of the vaccine to states across the country, california will get nearly 15,000 of those with 9800 of them going to los angeles county. it's unclear how many san francisco will receive. but so far it hasn't been enough. >> the foundation has received only about 90 doses the jenny u.s. vaccine. and we would need something like 6,000 to treat all of the patients that might be high rent. >> and while vaccines are behind, medical experts say so is testing, which is also critical to keeping monkeypox from getting out of control. >> it's very difficult to always recognize who's infected and people don't know they're infected. so they really need to have diagnostic. so you can keep the people are infected away

all the way into monday morning crews are repairing the northbound lanes of highway one o one between the robin williams tunnel and the rodeo avenue off-ramp. caltrans says people should expect traffic delays of up to an hour. crews are replacing a damaged drainage system. the work should be finished by 7 monday morning. caltrans recommends using the richmond sandra fell bridge to get are in this weekend or you can take the ferry. also happening today in the north bay, the city of fairfield is hosting a gun buyback event. you can turn in your guns for gift cards with no questions asked kron 4 s camila barco is live there for us this morning with all the details for us. hey, camila. >> hi, stephanie. c and 2 hours organizers will be here in fairfield at mount calvary baptist church collecting any firearms or any ammunition that people want to turn it out. organizers say that every gun that they collect is one less gun that's out there and

available in that could be used in any dangerous situations like a domestic violence incident or burghley. now, stephanie, like you said, this process is simple, easy and anonymous organizers won't ask questions like where the gun came from or whose it is instead, all people have to do is drive up to the site, stay in their car and hand in the firearm. the firearms have to be unloaded and in the trunk of the car, organizers will also be collecting box ammunition. but that doesn't include explosives. now, this is all an effort to prevent gun violence and prevent firearms from landing in the wrong hands. in exchange for handing over your guns or any ammunition. the city will give out gift cards to for those who come here. first, you'll be first come first serve several organizations are hosting this event, including the city of fairfield and solano county district attorneys office. now, stephanie, the gun buyback event will start at 9 o'clock this morning. organizers will

to twitter's board, elon musk says he's terminating his 44 billion dollar bid to take over twitter. the chair of twitter's board friday tweeted they are committed to closing the transaction and plans to pursue legal action to consummate the merger. musk and twitter reached a deal back in april with the tesla ceo saying he wanted to restore free speech on the app but not everyone including cal state, east bay communications professor nolan higdon believes that was musk's real reason for buying twitter from day one is very clear. this was all about business and making this was not freedom speech or anything else. musk's lawyers say twitter has ignored or refused to provide information about spam or bought accounts on the platform. however, company execs say they removed a million spam accounts every day. and those accounts fall far below 5% of its active users. >> the market reacted negatively to the news with shares of twitter falling nearly $20 on friday for

birds versions of the bridges. if at the >> a golden gate bridge covered up by a lot of this morning. fog going on. it will start to mix out later in the morning hours, east bay shoreline, all socked in again. >> with a lot of that fog, the pattern is a little bit of a cut off low kind of in our backyard, not making much of a footprint beyond that as will be a little milder today compared to what will be tomorrow and into monday. as temperatures really start soaring. so you can see the retreat here of the marine layer very nicely into the afternoon. we do the same thing again tomorrow. it's going to flood the whole bay area. and again, those inland valleys with a little bit the way some cloud cover. but more importantly, that fog kind of spinning through the parking a straight on into the sacramento valley a little bit. so we're talking clearing mild to warm inland 70's to 80's going on. that's today. tomorrow, bumping it up into the 90's. a little bit. and it stays that way through monday, just other day and then retreats back to the 80's for the balance of the week. we'll see the mostly sunny days. little bit of the afternoon breeze here. but it's just

this one or 2 days will have a little bit of that heat spike or heat pump. if you want to call it that. 68 san francisco looks like for today and we take care of that morning. cloud cover and fog. 72 for oakland again, early fog. we go back to mostly sunny mode and san jose looking at about 80 stepping out from all of that to take a look at the wider bay. we see only mid 80's to the far east bay 87 santa rosa. i say only because we're looking for a nice warm-up tomorrow and into monday. east bay shoreline will be into the modest lower 70's course. we'll have more of this in the 4 zone forecast and take a look that extended where the 80's a pretty much rule, stephanie, thanks very much, dave. >> evacuation orders are lifted in morgan hill as firefighters gain the upper hand in a brush fire that broke out friday afternoon. that fire started near arms. be road about 20 homes. they're threatened for a short time. the fire burned at least 5 acres and is now 30% contained forward progress on the fire now stopped according to cal fire. in amador and

calaveras counties. containment on the electra fire is now at 70%. the flames burned more than 4400 acres. no home homes or other buildings were damaged. about 450 buildings still threatened this morning. and out of the sierra, we're part of the 70's close because of a wildfire. the park tweeting out this photo yesterday showing the washburn fire this burning near the lower portion of mariposa grove. and here's a look at a time lapse of that fire. just look at that huge plume of smoke going up into the air. last check. the fire is at nearly 470 acres. a mandatory evacuation order is in place for people living in the where owner and campground areas there. the area is home to the largest sequoia grove in the national park as well. so hopefully firefighters can get this one under control. the cause of the fire still under investigation. in redwood city, 300 critical health care workers voted to

strike. this includes nurses, assistance, aids and surgical techs from sequoia hospital. they say they've been in contract talks with dignity, health for months. there was talk of a 3% wage increase. but workers have been arguing that does not cover things like rising health insurance premiums and what they're calling unsafe staffing levels. one nursing assistant telling us, quote, we are disappointed and saddened that the hospital is treating us hospital because we love our work care for our patients and are committed to the community. we have put our lives on the line through covid and many people left. but we stayed. now. the strike does start on thursday. we've reached out to dignity, health for comment and have not yet heard back. san francisco officially has a new district attorney. brooke jenkins replaces her former boss chase aboudi and who lost his job in a recall election last month. kron four's rob nesbitt reports. >> for the city and county of san francisco. congratulations.

>> brooke jenkins gained her new title of district attorney friday, promising changes with the criminal justice system. >> to continue our mission of being an advocate for victims up pursuing justice for victims. that is our job. >> she spoke at the podium about prioritizing the prosecution of violent crimes. burglaries, property crimes in the city's open air drug market. the new da says holding offenders accountable does not mean a sacrifice and criminal justice reform. i am dedicated to creating new programs that can serve as alternatives to incarceration because we can't just stop at what we have. now, we have to continue to build these opportunities. mayor london breed thanked others who were considered for the job, including supervisor catherine stefani and former prosecutor nancy tung who are in the audience friday. the mayor not being shy about the changes she expects from the da's office. now the jenkins is in and chase a building is out. >> back in work with the sheriff's department. back in

work with the board of can work with the mayor. >> the former da says he's reached out to jenkins to offer his assistance in ensuring a smooth transition. his statement saying in part, quote, it has been my honor to serve san francisco's district attorney as we work for a safer and more just city. i am proud of the work we did to serve victims and to bring much needed reforms and accountability to our justice system. this is work that will continue in the months and years ahead. district attorney jenkins will be in her new role until at least november if she chooses to keep or spa in office, she will have to convince voters to keep her there. reporting the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> the san francisco police department is offering $100,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in a decade's old homicide case in 2001, 25 year-old paula. brian was last seen in front of a bar near 6 and mission streets in san francisco. police say she was seen with an unidentified man in a red car. less than 2

get the facts at propane.com/now. money this morning, the latest u.s. jobs report. surprisingly good. >> showing the economy added 372,000 jobs in june. basil, john, with the latest for us. >> even as inflation continues to plague americans, the latest jobs report shows the job market remains strong. my economic plan is moving this country in a better direction. u.s. national economic council director brian deese said the u.s. has now recovered all private sector jobs lost during the pandemic. the strength of the job market recovery has meant more opportunity, higher wages for 10's of millions americans. it's meant stronger household balance sheets. people have been able to save a little bit and that creates a more resilient economy. but even with job growth, recession worry still linger. george washington university professor tara sinclair. i

think those fears are their own problem. if people really buy this message, the recession is coming. they may cut back on spending and that action and cutting back on spending cuts for recession. sinclair says the federal reserve's priority is slowing down. demand to better max supply without triggering a recession. but they haven't been so successful that in the past. >> and so there's a lot of concern that if they're really going to fight off the inflation we're experiencing right now, that may come at the cost of a recession. sinclair believes if americans are worried they can focus now on building up their savings. but i think what actually makes sense, this is for individuals to take care of their own household financial situation reporting in washington. i'm basil, john. california is going to make its own insulin. governor newsom approved a budget this week, setting aside 100 million dollars for the state to create the medication. >> in california, we know

planned parenthood clinic in walnut creek. they say they've seen more cars without a out of state license plates. recently, the clinic providing security export x escorts, excuse me to and from the parking lot on fridays when a poor appointments for abortions are schedule. in international news, japan is reeling over the shocking events of the past. 48 hours, prime minister shinzo ah-bay was shot and killed as he was delivering a campaign speech outside of a train station, tv cameras and cell phones recording both the assassination and the arrest of the shooter. police say the suspect is a 41 year-old man with a military background and they say he confessed to the shooting and is expected to be charged with murder. president biden saying the assassination will leave a deep scar on many communities. that effect is also being felt here at home. the japanese community stunned over the former pratt prime minister's assassination kron four's gayle ong has that part

and crime is relatively low. very this going to be stunned. >> is rare. >> back in japantown, they were no memorials in sight at the peace plaza. the people we spoke to off camera say they are following the developments in the wake of the attack. the japanese consulate in san francisco sent this statement to kron 4. it reads in part, quote, we would like to express our deepest condolences, violence against democracy must not be tolerated. and we strongly condemn it. >> and the consulate general of japan in san francisco will be setting up the condolence book for anyone who wants to share their thoughts. reporting from japan town in san francisco, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> in the east bay, a new roots community health center is now open in oakland, mayor libby schaff and other community leaders attended the opening ceremony on friday. the center named in honor of miles armstead, a banker who was shot and killed outside of his home in 2020. he's being

tahoe, the traffic from the pacific. once we get to the slow to play out, it's not doing much for us here. we'll start to see the traffic from the pacific go west to east with a no real rain chances for us. but temperatures retreat back to the 80's for the balance of the week. the here's what happens with all that lower level moisture. let's call that covers the fog and some of the clouds too clearing on out during the day after we get the sun said what she comes back again, not just for the bay but also spills out to those inland valleys are keen a straight and moving on through the delta. you'll notice sacramento valley for tomorrow. it looks like as well. so they'll be again, that fog makes a lot of progress overnight today clearing mild to warm inland, got 70's and 80's cooking here. but we moved out to hot tomorrow as we'll see some 90's working here. 80's covering the bay. that will be the say in the same case for monday, then retreating back to the 80's for the balance of the week, kind of a mixed bag of sun and clouds from systems coming in from the pacific. but no major temperature hanges for us. 68 san francisco today taking care of

>> it concerned? because on the one hand, it is like what we've seen over the last 6 months variant of omicron that a little bit better at infecting people than the last one. a little more concerned than the usual because it's also better at evading immunity. and so people who have been vaccinated still are at risk of getting it. all of the vaccines remain incredibly important in preventing severe cases and people who've gotten infections as recently as a month or 2 ago are not fully protected against this one because it's different and evade some of the immunity you have from prior infections. and so if you already have gotten the antibodies, if you contracted covid before. >> that might not protect you from this current variant. it's not as protective as it used to be used to think. you know, you had a prior infections and a lot of people. >> say i i don't didn't want it, but i'm glad i got it out of the way. now. i don't to worry about it again. i wish that were still true, but it's not we are seeing some re infections. you still have some protection, but some re

infections as quickly as a couple of months after a prior infection. so you still have to be on and it also sounds like the current available vaccines are not as effective at protecting people from this new subvariant. >> yeah. i mean, the key message is there's no question that being fully vaccinated and boosted >> is massively protective against getting very sick and dying. so you should do that. but they don't protect as well as they used to against getting infected. and so certainly we've seen i'm sure you've seen friends, family, others who are fully vaccinated, boosted who are still getting infected if they've let down their and are there any differences in the symptoms when somebody the ba 5 us a variant compared to the other earlier, some variants. >> not not significantly. certainly omicron is less likely to cause the taste and smell abnormalities. we saw

earlier, thankfully it's not clear that it's any more severe and the prior versions of omicron. and so the symptoms tend to be about the same. we're we still have to figure out whether it's more severe than the prior versions at this point. doesn't really look that way. but if we're going to see more and more cases, we are going to see more and more hospitalizations. and that is what we're seeing. not a massive increase, but there is an increased nationally. there's an increase in the bay area of the number of people in hot hospitals with covid. >> can you walk us through the symptoms that people should be keeping an eye out for? >> yeah, that's the stuff we've all gotten used to. i mean most and most of them are upper respiratory. most most cases start with a sore throat or kind upper other story. symptoms, fever, fatigue, some people have g i symptoms. obviously shortness of breath is the one that we worry worry about the most. and if you have those symptoms, you have to assume that you might have covid. you have to test if you have a negative rapid test on the first day. that's no

guarantee. you don't have it. you should repeat that test in a day or 2 to be sure. >> and we know the fda just approved pharmacists, the ability to prescribe paxlovid. a pfizer's antiviral pill to treat covid-19. how effective would you say paxlovid is against the a 4, 5, >> at this point it still seems like it holds up very well. if it doesn't attack the virus the way the antibodies in the vaccines do it tax a different part of the virus. and so at least so far, there's no evidence that it's not working well against against this new variant and certainly for people at higher risk of a bad outcome. i still think take impacts of that is very good idea. >> in last question here for you, we know that the world opening up. people are traveling. there's no signs that any any that there are any plans to shutting businesses down. but we know that covid is still it can still be deadly average of 21 people still dying from covid every day here in california.

so what it what are your doctor's orders? what's the best way we can all keep ourselves safe from these new variants? >> well, that is best person for going to choose for themselves. as you say, there are really very few mandates anymore. so it's it's choose your own adventure. if you have not gotten a booster, if you haven't gotten a shot in 2022, you should. and again, that doesn't protect you all that well against getting covid but protects you very well against getting very sick. and then i'm still not doing indoor dining. i still wear an n 95 or kn 95. when i go to crowded indoor space when i travel because there is a ton of virus around and i still do not want to get this this virus. you know, i feel pretty confident not going to die of it. i'm not at all confident that i'm not going to have a crummy time have to miss work. and also potentially have long-term symptoms. and so take a good idea. still to be careful, this thing is is nasty and it's still quite. it's quite a lot of it out there. >> all right, doctor bob wachter, chair of ucsf

latest including the shot of the cruise ship that's out in the bay right now. it's still quite a bit of fog here, though. but yeah, they're all set there. if they're coming or going and loading or unloading whatever. but a lot of fog around the immediate bay we're dealing with this morning. >> that will clear out into the afternoon, though, for everybody looks like we have little bit of a breeze that's still hanging on here. that will be the case for today. still looking at this cloud cover and fog just covering up the entire east bay shoreline. from the vantage point of uc berkeley, even up to the hills, you can see here look, the little clear last hour or so. we're kind of backtracking a bit. we'll continue to monitor this this morning. see how fares out. we have an onshore wind. that will be the case. now those afternoon breezy conditions will get today. not as strong as we get to tomorrow and into monday course. we have little bit of a heat spike in our backyard 74, antioch, a lot of 60's cover the east bay. 61, san jose was pretty much 50's up to the north bay today. again, pretty mild by summer standers on those temperatures this

afternoon. contrast for you were actually trailing in the east bay by a couple degrees, as you'll notice in some cases as much as 5. meanwhile, run the immediate bay. it's not as pronounced their san francisco's a little head actually breaking things down. 75 by noon at 3, only about 80 and we'll be doubling that by decade. it looks like for tomorrow. it's a very short heat. spike and the other good news about it is it doesn't look like there's a bit of an offshore wind developing sometimes with those lows. the pass around us. we sometimes get a return flow and that could be problematic. that it will get its happening will still, although week will continue to have the coastal flow going on 70. thanks very much, dave. >> breaking news out of alameda county. firefighters now at the scene of a fire on the 1400 rather 14,000 block of washington avenue in san leandro. this fire is burning at an abandoned building. no injuries reported yet so far. but fire crews are asking people to please avoid this area. president biden signed an executive order to protect access to safe abortions. it's

we'll continue to ensure and abortion services are available to anyone coming to them from within california are from other states adding, quote, we believe in the fundamental right of all people to make their own personal decisions about their fertility future and family. anti-abortion activists continue to rally outside the planned parenthood clinic in walnut creek. and they say they've seen more cars with out of state license plates recently, the clinic providing security expert escorts to and from the parking lot on fridays. when appointments for abortions are scheduled. the supreme court ruling on roe v wade has raised some questions about the impact it could have on those seeking in vitro fertility treatments. also known as ivf, a doctor at stanford children's hospital says for the time being his patients are not too concerned because california is supportive of abortion rights, but he says he can't say the same for his colleagues in anti-abortion rights states.

stephanie. good morning, everybody. we've been talking a lot about that bay area fog, not a situation over san jose state. look at the blue skies in place there straight from the media. logical department going on there. meanwhile, sfo, yeah, little bank of some fog. you can see up against the hills here did check. there are no delays going on this morning. actually saw planes take off about 2 minutes ago. there. so if you're headed up the tahoe, get ready for summer. 84 tomorrow, monday, 88, even though in the bay area, this heat wave will be breaking down by tuesday. still hold on to 88, even as late as tuesday and course copious amounts of sunshine. most readings in the 50's 60's mixture, although antioch is already up to 70 now. 62 concord, 64 livermore pretty much mirrored here along the east bay shoreline. little decoupling will happen later on today. is the inland spots start to really start warming up. we have that on shore when there will be a little bit more pronounced today tomorrow. thank you. providing a little bit of relief, however, with the heat spike happening, it will start to weaken as we go forward. so we have this to give us some relief today. this little low

i'm just so proud of cal and what he's accomplishing right now. >> yeah, he's he's he's a very special and he's always had this fearlessness and tenacious than us and the fixes things and, you know, just keeps going. and so that we felt comfortable with undertaking this because of that. >> you know, where he get that personality trait from? was it for mom or dad? haha. from both of and what it does interest in sailing come from and how did how to get into it. >> yes, so it's not out of the blue. so i i myself felt across the north atlantic in the south pacific and his grandfather's done twice the atlantic and his great grandfather. as a bill to vote in 1948. and sample the galapagos and back. and so it's all in calgary up with this sort of on the walls of his house. and so it's not out of the blue, but we were making lists of crazy things to do in january. and this was one of 15 things we thought of and he seized on this one and >> and are you in touch with

him now? and where is he at this point in his voyage? >> that's been one of the amazing part is where and frequent in close contact with him. we talk on the phone at least once a day, which is amazing. we text throughout the day. you know, it's the first thing i do when i got this text him we texts throughout the day and then we can always be following his positions. so we're watching his every move. >> and he's about 1000 miles from the azores right so it's about 1000 miles offshore in the atlantic about 1000 miles from the azores, which is a small group of islands, about 2 thirds of the way across the >> wow. incredible. >> just out of curiosity where to get the funding to purchase a sailboat or did something that you always had on hand. >> yeah, the amazing thing is that there's a guy and connecticut. we've been preparing this boat for soul atlantic for the last 8 years. and he sold it to cau because he turned 90 and he was unable to complete the voyage and

self. and so he was so happy to sell the boat, too. is there a young man? he sold it to him for only $12,000. normally when you do it across atlantic trip, you're in a boat. that's 2 or and so cal has been able to do this really on a budget. and it's largely because of sandy and in connecticut's and events and >> and what does your son currently have on board with food, water? you mentioned that you're in touch with him over the phone every day as well. >> so so for one thing, loads of food, food for, you know, at least 50 days, i'm much more food than he'll need loads of water loads of diesel. another thing i want to mention is the communication he has with people us or not just us, but for instance, a family friend who's a climatologist and in touch with him daily, giving a really fine tuned advice on his heading and where the weather systems are. and that's really enabled him to

stay and smooth waters. what's the plan when he reaches span? i believe that's that's the goal here. >> he's either going to land in portugal and spain, depending on where the winds taken. no part of this is to learn to flex with nature. nature brings you something. you have to adjust to it he could land in either of those countries and at that point, you might put the boat away. he's got to get back because it goes to palo alto high school, right to be back from school. >> it's going to make for quite incredible. and if i'm not sure of colleges in his plans, but it's going to make for an incredible admissions i think the reading about. >> incredible experience hoping we're hoping all of his friends and >> maybe the parents of the girls to appreciate serve a long future that that we're hoping as this turns out, well, it lay a foundation for lots of good things. it's about. >> a lot more than college. who knows if he's even going

>> hey, good morning. thank you so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it's saturday, july 9th. we have a lot to get to for you this morning. but let's start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr a day. a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and bay area fog around the immediate bay still hanging around the iconic golden gate as you'll notice here. but i did see one of our count camera shots here. looks like there's some blue try to work. and they're just a little bit here. so give it some time to work its magic. and we see some landscape here in the east bay shoreline is the fog starts to peel away a little bit from the east bay shoreline. so in fog cast clears out for this afternoon and problematic along the coast a bit because we have the slow kind of pusoing in here. but it keeps our temperatures down today. at least washed back. it comes again tonight covering the ppentire bay spills inland. you can see all the way to the sacramento valley that will quickly mix out tomorrow as we're looking for temperatures to race a little further ahead. then today, 70 for antioch, most readings in the 60's in the east bay up in the north bay valais holding on to a chilly 58 60 for napa. 57

because the virus is spreading. >> it at a minimum for anyone. >> we've it's it's not just going to be as it can be extremely painful. >> the biden administration is announce beginning monday will begin shipping an additional 144,000 doses of the vaccine to states across the country, california will get nearly 15,000 of those with 9800 of them going to los angeles county. it's unclear how many san francisco will receive. but so far it hasn't been enough. >> the foundation has received only about 90 doses the jenny vaccine. and we would need something like 6,000 to treat all of the patients that might get high rent. >> and while vaccines are behind, medical experts say so is testing, which is also critical to keeping monkeypox from getting out of control. >> it's very difficult to always recognize who's infected and people don't know they're infected. so they

too, about what it's like being and asian american woman in this field of comedy. there's not too many to start out with. you mentioned ali wong. there's margaret cho, of course, who we know has been around for some time. but you are a trailblazer in many respects because you are one of the few. what is it like being one of the first being one of the only asian women in the room? >> it's very difficult to just being a woman in comedy is very difficult. i i got a lot insults full being a woman and being asian woman. and there's a little heckling is not even like as bad. and sometimes just we will touch your arm and tell you right. you can says you can't say that because it what i would do very different from robert chill and anyone. i love them. so much of my heroes. but we are different because they were born america. and i was born in china. but i'm also a mark in a talk at all about growth in china. the one child policy my life and i don't talk too much about because

health care community, outreach and advocacy for residents. for your money. this morning, the latest latest u.s. jobs report is surprisingly good showing the economy added 372,000 jobs in june. basil. john, now with the latest. >> even as inflation continues to plague americans. the latest jobs report shows the job market remains strong. my economic plan is moving this country in a better direction. u.s. national economic council director brian deese said the u.s. has now recovered all private sector jobs lost during the pandemic. the strength of the job market recovery has meant more opportunity, higher wages for 10's of millions americans. it's meant stronger household balance sheets. people with unable to save a little bit and that creates a more resilient economy. but even with job growth, recession worry still linger. george washington university professor tara sinclair, thanks. those fears are their own problem. if people really

evacuation orders are lifted in morgan hill as firefighters gain the upper hand in a brush fire that broke out friday afternoon. that fire started near arms. be road about 20 homes were threatened for a short time. that fire burning at least 5 acres. and it's now 30% contained forward progress on this fire has been stopped according to cal fire. and calaveras counties. containment on the electra fire. now at 72%. the flames burned more than 4400 acres. no homes or other buildings were damaged. about 450 buildings still under threat. this morning, though. now to the sierra. we're part of the most part of just 70 park is now closed because of a wildfire. the park tweeting out this photo yesterday showing the washburn fire this burning near the lower portion of mariposa grove. and here's a look at a time lapse of the fire. just look at all that smoke billowing up into the air at last check, the fire nearly 4470 acres in size. a

mandatory evacuation order is in place for people living in will rona and the campground areas there. the area is home to the largest sequoia grove in the national park and the cause of the fire still under investigation at this hour. in redwood city, 300 critical health care workers have voted to strike. this includes nurses, assistance, aids and surgical techs from sequoia hospital. they say they've been in contract talks with dignity, health for months. there was talk of a 3% wage increase, but workers argue that does not cover things like rising health insurance premiums and what they're saying, our unsafe staffing levels. one nursing assistant telling us, quote, we are disappointed and saddened that the hospital is treating us this way. we work at this hospital because we love our work care for our patients and are committed to this community. we have put our lives on the line through covid and many people left. but we stayed according to that statement. now the strike
