8:50 am
was how little trash we found under the water are scuba teams have cleaned nevada beach for the past 2 years. and in 2021, we pulled out almost 400 pounds that in about a under water and this year we pull out only 45 it. so while we're seeing a lot more small trash on the shorelines, little pieces, a cop's corners nola bars cans, bottles were seeing a lot less of those really big truck tried to that. we've seen water tired, barbecues, lawn chairs. so that was a positive take away from the weekend. what do you think is driving the difference there? why there's as much trash in the water versus obviously so much piling up on the beach. >> i think it has a lot to do with the the kind of team effort that's going on in tahoe with keep tahoe blue and clean up the lake as well as because solution. we have. the lake has been under water hope for the past few years. and so a lot of the work we're doing.
8:51 am
we're we're showing people all of the stuff we're taking from underneath those waves says it's easier for someone to stay on shore and not think it's hard about the things that they're dropping versus when they're on the water. there's it's more president their mind thinking how can i avoid dropping anything into this lake that i love and so we're working really educating people on how they can avoid getting things into the water. and, you know, the closer it is to a garbage can the better so we love seeing it. >> and what kind of tools are you guys using right now to help with cleanup efforts? we just play some video of a team under water and they were going through with nets. what's happening on shore? >> that's right. now is a great example of what it looks like when we're under water. so we use basic scuba set ups. we also use large mesh trash bags. so pretty much everything we see under water is grabbed by hand or we use our surface support, which are kayakers and jet skis with a long rope with a rock attach the bottom of it. when we dropped that rock down really deep, we tie it to whatever heavy item we want to remove
8:52 am
