the fog we talked about here it is along the coast, a half moon bay. this is going to probably improve a little quicker than what we saw from yesterday. all right. going to be hot, though, in those inland valleys going on for today, including the central valley. this is the same as we talked about yesterday, saint location going on for the central valley, los panos to the south. this is until 9 o'clock tomorrow and that other registry around reno, that's actually red flag warning on the nevada side tahoe. now, here's what's left over from the monsoon. look at this. a couple thunder showers holding together on the vegas area. all that moisture is going to drift to the north all in tandem with the monsoon be able to see it from here. futurecast for boom and pops up with daytime heating. then here's our traditional fog developing around the bay area tomorrow morning, although not as intense as what we're experiencing today. and then another flare up out towards the mountains. again, kind of us. typical pattern. but it's bringing up some of that moisture from the 4 corner states. 72, antioch, 60's going on inland, mostly 50's around the perimeter of the bay. however, forecast calls

news. let's start off this half hour with a look at our forecast. dave spahr in the weather center with the very latest. good morning, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. let's start off with a shot here from sfo. no delays happening there. but that fog bank covering up the hills to the background. very typical, as we see along the coast to with half moon bay. but it looks like some bright cloudiness here. >> as of the fog will be peeling away a little quicker today than we saw from yesterday for the afternoon temperature checked, leading the pack at 72, most readings in the 50's. we have lower 60's going on just east of the east bay hills off to livermore valley. 63 61 for conquered, by the way. still going to be hot today for the central valley, los banos points to the south until 9 tomorrow. meanwhile, that other red you see up there around reno, this will be in the nevada side of they have a red flag warning going on for today. now they'll be the flare up of a few little afternoon. thunder showers up there in the spine of the mountains. but that will be south of the tahoe area later today. once we get that

daytime heating temperatures will still be quite warm, however, inland as we 90's again, in some selective spots. 80 expected by about 11 o'clock. but really for the week ahead, it looks like a relatively mild a forecast considering the fact it's mid have more in your 4 zone forecast to dub it. stephanie. >> summertime is a great time to get out and enjoy the water. but it's important to take the proper steps to stay safe for the 3rd time in 2 weeks, another person has drowned in napa counties. lake berryessa. and joining me now to talk about this and share some important key safety tips is henry welford with the napa county sheriff's office. thank you so much for being here with us stephanie, thank you for having us. i wish i could meet. you want to better terms than this? but at the same time, we appreciate kron 4 for. >> helping us get out such important information and we certainly appreciate you coming all the way out from napa. join us here in san francisco. you know, this is going help us save lives. time is not an issue at all for us. we're happy to be here.

>> so paint a picture for us about conditions out at lake it sounds like it's a pretty a popular spot for people to go to when the weather warms up. >> absolutely. the water is warm. the scenery is beautiful. but one thing you'll notice differently about swim in the lake, especially at lake berryessa is that there are significant drop offs. this is anything but a swimming pool. when you think of a swimming pool, the water, the depth either increases or decreases gradually at lake berryessa. you can be approximately 3 feet away from the shoreline standing in 5 feet of water. take 2 more steps and you could be in water as deep as 15 to 20 feet. those drop-offs is what's causing major, major issues out there because those who are not familiar with the lake, they may overestimate their swimming capabilities. i'm going to swim from this island over to this. sure. if i don't make it, i can walk the rest of the way to the shoreline. that's not the case at lake berryessa. if you don't make it to the shoreline and you're only 3 feet 4 feet
7:33 am
away, you're still in very deep, deep water. wow. so. >> is other signs posted out there or their patrols, that sort of thing. we don't have lifeguard. we do have that. the county sheriff's office says a marine unit out there will will have approximately 6 deputies for each shift. if it's a big weekend, something similar to 4th of july weekend will probably double that amount of staff. but most importantly, there's huge signs that state free life jackets. we can't state this enough a free life jacket. you don't have to run it with a driver's license. you don't have to hand over anything for collateral. they're right there on the rocks. we want you to grab them, put them on. but it's similar to a bike helmet, right? you have 9 kids not wearing a bike helmet and then that one mother says you've got to where your bike helmet into kits us. why? well, why is because it saves lives. we really encourage everyone. 2 play it safe. have
7:34 am
fun. but put on a life jacket. >> you know, we're just weeks into summer. we're talking about another drowning in lake area. said you feel like this could have been preventable. >> all drownings could be preventable. and the reason why is if you're wearing a life jacket, it's pretty difficult to drown. let me tell you something about the number of drownings that we've had since 2020. we had 6 drownings in twenty-twenty. if it wasn't for covid, we would have had more. we shut down the lake in july of that year and we had already had 6 at that point. but one thing we have noticed is that. majority of our drownings are swimmers. it's not non swimmers. non swimmers tend to stay away from the water and they play it safe. we're recovering a lot of people who were swimmers and it's because they said i don't need a life jacket. i swim from that island to the shoreline earlier today. it's 3 hours later. you know, the water conditions are different. your body is fatigued and it's really sad because someone will say that person how to
7:35 am
swim. absolutely. it's still a dangerous like if you're not wearing a life jacket. in fact, we've had triathlons out there and lake county napa county as well. we've pulled triathletes out of the water because their bodies are tightening up. so we want to encourage everyone, whether you're a swimmer, non swimmer, please take a moment and just put on the life jacket to help you save a life. and what's the message to maybe for families who are planning to head out to the water? >> this summer, i mean, you you mention the free life jackets. it sounds like a great resource available for families. but anything else people should be aware of before they start venturing out into into the lake. absolutely. another step that we're noticing out there is all of our drowning victims, especially since an 2019. >> they're outside of napa county of these are counties that may be adjacent are people from far out santa clara county, alameda county, san francisco contra costa and things of that nature. they'll go to an area of the lake and
7:36 am
all say, wow, what a beautiful area over there. why isn't in that let's go there so we can have a very intimate, isolated area to our own family. people in napa county are probably aware that's one of the biggest drop-off areas there. so don't necessarily pick an area that secluded and you're thinking, hey, we can be very loud and no one's going to complain about this. the amount of noise in our area. there's probably a good reason why lot of people aren't hanging in that specific area. but no matter where you're at be careful because the trop officer very steep at lake berryessa. >> do you think now is the time to introduce more patrols and lifeguards to the lake because of the frequency of drownings. so this is the issue that you're going to have you. it's almost a false sense of security. lake berryessa is 32 square miles. so you're looking at a lake approximately 11 miles long, 3 miles wide. you can put more and more people out there. but it's going to be the smart
