this mixes out pretty quickly for most of the bay. i think that it's going to go problematic, though, along the coast might see some of those clouds kind of linger around. hang around a little bit and we'll see more of that tomorrow. here comes back tonight and agree to tomorrow morning's will have a lot of fog issues in the very early morning hours. temperatures are mostly in the 50's. 51 santa rosa mid-fifties along the east bay shoreline. 62 for can give you a quick comparison here were trailing a little bit out to the east bay, but don't worry, we'll catch up very nicely this afternoon. the monsoon is still churning in the 4 corner states, but it's staying pretty far from home. a look at the breakdown for you today. 75 by to 86. not bad for july. it looks like through the weekend. a nice warm summertime weekend. more on your forecast in a bit. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. new this morning. police in san jose now investigating another deadly car crash. this is the 38th fatal collision of the year. so far. >> now this happened just before midnight near the intersection of brigadoon way

born road. police say a car crashed into a light pole. they have not said if drugs or alcohol were a factor here. so far this year in san jose, at least 40 people have died in traffic accidents. also in the south bay, a pilot is recovering from serious injuries this morning after a small plane crashes near the reid-hillview airport. this is in the area call avenue and carl street. the crash happening around 7.15, yesterday evening. the pilot was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police tweeting out an update late last night that the man is now in stable condition. >> his name has not yet been released. the faa and the national transportation safety board. >> now assisting with the investigation. and union city police make a break in a decade's old cold murder case with the help of new dna evidence, police arrested. 76 year-old james ray kerry of fairfield this week. police believe he's responsible for the deaths of 2 women. the

first murder happening in 1980, in union city. the second in 1996 in that case, the woman's body was found in some bushes along interstate 7.80, in vallejo. gary is also accused of a crime in 2021. in solano county, police say new dna evidence taken earlier this month helped investigators link kerry to all 3 crimes. >> from 1980, to 1996 in which, you know, between the 2 crimes and then from 1996, to 2021. you know, we have some time in which. you know, the same suspect could have committed other crimes that have gone unsolved. >> gary is now being held in solano county jail without bail. additional charges are expected for the 1980, homicide in union city. robberies of expensive watches are on the rise in san francisco. the police department says armed thieves are targeting people wearing

watches worth 10's of thousands of dollars. rolex among the brand's targeted by the thieves. in addition to increasing patrols, sfpd recommends covering up any valuables you might have on you while you're out adding that if you are attacked, please do not chase the suspects. >> and since they suspects point firearms at the victim's noah watch can be replaced. but people's lives can. >> these incidents are happening locally and across our state on monday night robbers stole a rolex from a man at gunpoint in walnut creek. and earlier this month, another man reported his $40,000 watch stolen by armed robbers outside a trader joe's in danville. developing news. a new wildfire sparked just outside of yosemite national park, forcing evacuations. the oak fire began yesterday afternoon. it's burned over 4300 acres so far. this is

southwest of the park near mid pines in mariposa county, part of highway one. 40 is closed. no. so far no structures have burned. efforts continue this morning to contain this fast growing fire. happening tomorrow, the san francisco marathon returns with thousands of runners expected to make the trip from the embarcadero to sausalito him back this year. organizers are calling a bigger and more inclusive than ever before the race on sunday expected to be the first marathon in california to have a non-binary division. there will also be a special program for runners with disabilities. 25,000 runners registered for this year's event. you can expect road closures on sunday, including the embarcadero, which will be closed from midnight sunday morning until 3 sunday afternoon sidewalks on the golden gate bridge will also be closed for part of the morning. some muni lines will also be impacted. and for more on the road closures happening in your neighborhood, just head over to our website. kron 4 dot com. and happening

a lot. it's all sunny and all. but that has to mix out. and that may be a little problematic for parts of san francisco may be open to and at the coast, it might be a little sluggish to lift that. that's giving the same case for tomorrow. but here's the golden gate for you to start things off right there. meanwhile, sfo, no delays but a nice bank of fog and clouds off to the distance covering up. >> as you can see, the hills there. meanwhile, our monsoon continues to churn in the 4 corner states, but it's not making the progress thus far towards the north on balance. we're going to stay mostly sunny. it looks like not just for today tomorrow, but really into much of next week. but let's get back to that lower level moisture that we're referring to again, mixing out pretty nicely. looks a little stubborn here along the coast. san francisco, oakland, although most of the bay will open up nice and sunny, like and of course, it comes back again. notice over my shoulder. you don't see the flaring up of those afternoon. showers and thunder showers in the mountains. this is what goes on tomorrow morning and again, that will mix out could get some coastal drizzle with all of that. can't rule it out. perhaps. alright,

temperatures for you right now. we've got 65 antioch mid-fifties off to the east bay. same deal. one, the east bay shoreline, north bay about 51 santa rosa. 54 livermore in 57 for san jose. back to this fog. now they're mixes out again kind problematic there around the golden gate, a little bit around open but comes back real quick this evening. circa club, some of the star gazing and then you can see it covers all those inland valleys, really handsomely by dawn tomorrow morning. all right. our general program is one of this week bay fog. scattered clouds left over again. that problem areas. san francisco line to oakland, 70's for the bay, though, near in about 90 going on in lynn, you're going to notice that most of the hotter temperatures going to the east bay, not so much the valleys up in the north bay. santa rosa is not pop high today. a touch warmer along the code with coastal clouds, touch warmer for tomorrow. lower 90's, working here and more geography will be involved the next week early bay, fog and clouds warm inland. reason that we're kind of buys only because we'll see quite a bit of upper 80's in for july. not

too bad here again for today. we'll go with about 63 san francisco. got the morning fog. scattered clouds. got to keep that in the forecast. same thing for oakland at 70 to 83, mostly sunny and warm covering san jose. back to the big temperature map here. lower 90's. you can see over the east bay hills in those valleys in the east bay, north bay, not quite as much lower 80's here. 86 meanwhile for santa rosa in the bay, not bad in the 60's and 70's. we'll have your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit long extended. stephanie, thanks very much, dave. >> san francisco city officials are asking for your help deciding on a new trash can design. now the city is replacing the current green renaissance trash can model that's been on city streets since 1993, the bins are costly to maintain, according to people behind the project and are apparently easy to break into causing trash to spill out onto city streets. 6 new models are now being tested throughout the city. they include 3 custom design models that some critics say are simply too expensive. now

caltrans property. stay at these places because they feel safe there. nearly 200 people have called the site home for several years. with problems on july. 12th, a large fire sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky, temporarily shutting down freeways. >> and threatening a nearby water treatment plant that contains highly explosive materials average. that's one flyer if we. >> every 3.7 days. >> state county and city officials say in the last 2 years there has been nearly 200 fires on the site. they say the in camp and must be cleared for the safety of everyone. the cleanup was supposed to happen this week, but residents sued and a federal judge agreed putting a stop to the process for now following friday's hearing, governor gavin newsom issued this statement. today's decision by the court will delay caltrans critical work and endanger the public. our roadways and highways are no

to the kron. 4 morning news. start off this half hour with a look at our forecast. dave spahr now in the weather center with the very latest on what we can expect this morning. hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and that promise. fog is also appearing with kind situation at half moon bay, as you can see. so these overcast skies will break up a little bit by the afternoon. >> but we still may be left with some scattered clouds for the day today. also, nice will bank of fog you're up against the hills, an sfo, although we're getting new reports of no delays there, winds right now. they are on shore. you will notice most arrows coming in from the west providing nice relief and also that fog that we're getting this morning and we'll see you again for tomorrow. temperatures are mostly in the 50's over most of the those 65 for 57 coming in for san jose? our plan in the day is lots of sunshine going on the inland high temperatures will be in the 80's but will pop some lower 90's, particularly in the east bay, not so much in the north bay for today. look

at your forecast. include that 4 zone and extended coming up in just a little bit. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> a jury rules the 2021 shooting of a homeless man by contra costa county sheriff's deputy, a homicide as kron four's. dan kerman reports it's now up to the da to decide whether to file criminal charges against the former officer. >> had a coroner's inquest into the death of 32 year-old tyrell wilson. a jury has determined he died at the hands of another person and it was not an accident. it is. >> a case where the option created this reduced and the confrontation and use deadly force when they need to. to me, that's in the mass slaughter 7 agreement. wilson who suffered from mental health issues was shot and killed on march 13th of last year. >> by andrew hall, who was the contra costa county sheriff's deputy at the time hall is now serving a prison sentence for killing another man while on the job in 2018, the encounter was captured on video and despite the fact that wilson had a knife in his hand, family attorney john burris

says the video shows the officer cross the line with other mason. >> and non forceful activity that could have been taken not to make sure that this was a non-confrontational of that and would not be did now. burris and wilson's family are hopeful contra costa county's district attorney. we'll file criminal charges against the former looking for no nothing less than manslaughter. >> and because it did not have that happen that way. >> the da's goal is to issue a report in the shooting 90 days after the inquest is completed. that report will detail what if any charges will be filed. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> we're learning more about the first cases of monkeypox found in young children this week. the cdc says a california toddler is one of 2 kids who tested positive with the virus. they're not saying where the child in california is from at the moment. the

other child tested positive in washington, d.c., health officials say both kids are in good health. they are investigating how the children caught the disease in the first place, but they believe it was through household transmission. monkeypox continues to spread since it was first detected in late may. there are now more than 2500 cases across the u.s. here in california. the cdc detected 356 positive cases and 197 of those are in the san francisco county. meantime, santa santa clara county is now reporting. 23 total cases. san francisco department of public health announced changes to its vaccine distribution policy. this coming as monkeypox cases continue to climb. kron four's rob nesbitt explains. >> before friday, every time someone got their first in shot, a second dose was set aside for them to get 28 days later. that won't be the case. moving forward by friday. the long wait times that monkeypox

vaccine site seemed to improve. but the wait list for shots at the magnet. health clinic hasn't stopped have over 5,000 individuals in the queue who we have deemed eligible for vaccination by are awaiting enough supply here in the area. san francisco aids foundation ceo doctor tyler trim your says the clinic received 200 doses of the vaccine this week. 200 doses in comparison to are over 5,000 person. waitlist is not going by doctor peter chin-hong ucsf says one way to solve the vaccine. supply issue is by doling out the second doses that are sitting and waiting to those who have yet to receive their first dose in the san francisco department of public health agrees announcing a deferment of second doses to provide vaccines to more at-risk populations. say if you are able to just >> for shots, that means all of a sudden all these people had. >> appointments to get their day. 28 shot. we'll have that the freight and that doubles the amount of people you can

treat. he says the second dose acts as a booster and some research questions if it's needed at all, describing the rise in cases as the tip of the iceberg. i still think we're in the middle rising very quickly. so we we may see many, many more cases and the next few weeks before it starts to come down again at magnet. more than 50 people with symptoms have been tested for monkeypox, according to doctor trim near the majority of those tests came back as positive. only adding to the argument that more vaccines are needed to prevent continued spread. we're also having to make difficult decisions with a very limited amount of supply while the spread in communities like san francisco just continues to be so vast. >> the san francisco department of public health will send out notifications when enough vaccine supplies available to offer second doses. they say the second dose will still be effective even if it's given after the minimal interval of 4 weeks. reporting the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> the new mental health emergency number 9, 8, 8, is

gaining traction. the number of calls remain steady sense. that number launched about a week ago. the federal health officials say the number of text messages asking for help is skyrocketing. the biden administration invested more than 400 million dollars into the service. just 2% of the calls are transferred to 9-1-1. for police response. but so far most cases are resolved over the phone. the nationwide baby formula shortage is not over. newly released data shows that more than 20% of formula products have been out of stock for the past 6 weeks. despite new efforts to bring in formula from other countries. some stores say they've yet to see a any significant impact really on inventory, according to market research, the problem appears to be even worse for powder formula. the fda insists that there is a, quote, robust pipeline of products coming in but says that the problem will take time to fix. new this morning. nobody won last night,

>> big basin redwoods state park in the santa cruz mountains is finally partially back open. this happening nearly 2 years after the massive czu lightning complex fire scorched the area. the flames burning many areas of the park like the visitor center campgrounds and housing. but many of the ancient redwoods survived. crews continue the hard work of restoring damaged places to make it more accessible to the

incredibly striking from above down below. it's a little bit of a different story. it is pretty, but it is like what you would think of as a caribbean destination or anything like that. you're not going to see a lot of fish, but just having the opportunity to be on a submarine going down below. it's really part of the experience involved now during the winter. if you are sailing on the ship in the story changes a little bit when the submarines were in the water last winter, they spotted this really rare jellyfish that can be about 30 feet in size to a jellyfish that's only been i- spotted about 100 times ever. so the long-term possibility for discovery learning education. it's really kind of an amazing experience for the typical gas. there's more to it than lying in the sunshine and hanging at the buffet. absolutely. and it sounds like they're just so many different

the bay is what we're dealing with to the golden gate bridge as you will notice. all the towers covered up right now at this hour as a foe. >> no delays happening this morning. but still that bank of fog is hanging off towards the hills in the distance. we're going to this whole thing again. it looks like tomorrow morning as well. fog mixes out of 4 today, although it may linger at the coast a little bit in terms of some scattered clouds and so forth. coming back pretty early around. san francisco and oakland tonight and greeting us tomorrow morning as well. temperature check for you. most readings are in the 50's. in fact, both of the coast bay and even a little inland to antioch. the outline are at 65 for comparison sake, were trailing a little bit in some locations in the east bay and the bottle also trailing about 2 degrees, too, as well. so for today, lots of sunshine. temperatures will probably top off in about 90 or so. we look to see the same thing for sunday monday order into next week. it's going to be teetering a little bit for those inland numbers between 90 some of the upper 80's, some of the lower 90's. and by july standards, not quite a heat. spike looks like it's holding off until the end of the week. when things start to

warm up, stephanie, thanks very much, dave. >> new this morning, police in san jose now investigating another deadly car crash. this is the 38th fatal collision of the year. so far this happening just before midnight near the intersection of brigadoon way in a board wrote, police say a car crashed into a light pole. they have not set of drugs or alcohol were a factor in this so far this year in san jose, at least 40 people have died in traffic accidents. also in the south pilot is recovering from serious injuries this morning after a small plane crashed near the reid-hillview airport. that's in the area call avenue and carl street. this crash happened around 7.15, yesterday evening. the pilot taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police tweeting out an update last night that the man is now in stable condition. his name has not yet been released. the faa and the national transportation safety board are assisting with the investigation. the

plane still on the streets this morning and our camila barco is on her way to the scene to get the latest details into this investigation. city police make a break in a decade's old cold murder case with the help of new dna evidence police arrested. 76 year-old james ray gary of fairfield this week. officers believe he's responsible for the deaths of 2 women. the first murder happening in 1980, in union city. the second in 1996 in that case, the woman's body was found in some bushes along interstate 7.80, in vallejo. gary is also accused of a crime in 2021. in solano county, police say new dna evidence taken earlier this month helped investigators link kerry to all 3 crimes. >> there was a span from 1980, to 1996 in which, you know, between the 2 crimes and then from 1996, to 2021. you know, we have some time in which.

>> welcome back. in national news, senate democrats are calling for an end to the federal ban on marijuana. senate majority leader chuck schumer announced the cannabis administration and opportunity act if passed, would legalize marijuana by removing the drug from the controlled substances act, allowing states to make their own laws on cannabis. a growing number of states including california, have already enacted their own. we growth and sales laws. the bill would also clear the criminal records of people convicted of nonviolent marijuana related offenses. right now, though, it does not look like the bill has enough support to pass in the senate.

197 of those cases in san francisco county. meanwhile, santa clara county now reporting 23 total cases. the san francisco department of public health announced changes to its vaccine distribution policy. this coming as monkeypox cases continue to climb. kron four's rob nesbitt explains. >> before friday, every time someone got their first in shot, a second dose was set aside for them to get 28 days later. that won't be the case. moving forward by friday. the long wait times that monkeypox vaccine site seemed to improve. but the wait list for shots at the magnet. health clinic hasn't stopped have over 5,000 individuals in the queue who we have deemed eligible for vaccination but are awaiting enough supply here in the area. san francisco aids foundation ceo doctor tyler trim your says the clinic received 200 doses of the vaccine this week. 200 doses in comparison to are over 5,000 person. waitlist is not going by doctor peter

upper 50's over the east bay hills much the same we're seeing along the east bay shoreline. so the decoupling hasn't yet happened. need some time for the sun to do its magic. and we've got some lower to middle 50's hanging up there in the north bay. so we've got our high in the southwest. that's keeping the monsoon place. however, the systems from the pacific or keeping the controlled and contained down to the south. we just get the morning fog both today tomorrow and probably do much of that into next week. that's nice to get that marine layer in here that ocean cooled air and it brings with it the fog as well. now this afternoon, it will mix out the levels will be dropping. sure, but that's kind of somewhat typical. and the marine layer comes back again. sometimes we have all of that red flag warning talk and everything. you don't see this much green in the morning hours. so it shows we have a very healthy marine layer working here with the fog, even though we see quite a bit of drying happening in the afternoon, but waiting for rain for a long time. 63 san francisco will do it for today along the coast. it's a bit of a battle with some leftover

i'll take 'em. basin redwoods state park is partially back open on friday. the park started allowing visitors back in kron four's. justin campbell was there for the big opening after the park was shut down for 2 years. >> loni finley along with his wife and triplets haven't visited the park since the czu lightning complex fire tore through the forest in twenty-twenty. a lot of it looks still. >> the same. i mean, the trees, the big trees are still pretty much where they were. it's a lot clearer. there's a lot more open spaces. there are no buildings left after the fire. officials are still rebuilding the park with whatever they can down. and literally there's just flames, even milling the fallen redwoods to make fences. >> limited access, only 45 car spots open per day that you have to go online and reserve

>> you know, the 2 decision to were separate and the underpinnings of the constitutional right to marriage are different than those that were taken up in the dobbs decision. but of course, what we've seen a radical supreme court that's willing to overturn 50 years in precedent. so folks in the lgbtq+ community, i think are understandably concerned that we might be next. and as a community, we need to be ready to fight. >> i think most of us can remember of the footage back from 2015 when the supreme court at that time ruled that same marriage was legal nationwide in all 50 states. we saw people running to the chapel getting married. you know, a lot of celebrations happening. did you ever think, you know, fast for just a few years later, we be where we are right now. i don't think any of us really but what happened after 2015 in terms of the way this country shifted. but what i do think has changed since 2015. >> is that folks across this country have seen same marriages happened. they have

lgbtq+ families in their communities. and right now over 70% of americans of all time high nationally do support the right for same marriage. so we've seen that the sky doesn't fall when we're allowed to love who we love and marry and support our families. and our hope is that that support will only continue to grow. >> you know, we saw the house this they made some moves to protect same marriage. they passed a bill of the respect for marriage act to protect same marriage and interracial marriages. that is now in the hands of the senate. so what do what do you think is the likelihood of that passing? >> well, that bill in the house, which does a few things that doma, which is a discriminatory law that provides federal legal protections for same couples and it stops individual states from denying rights to same couples who are legally married elsewhere. so it's truly groundbreaking unnecessary legislation and it the house. 47 republicans voted in support. i think

we're seeing the potential for similar bipartisan support in the senate, but certainly can't take anything for granted. and i have you had any conversations with. >> say state, local, even perhaps federal lawmakers about this issue. >> absolutely. and, you know, we're lucky again here in california to have a delegation that is is very largely pro equality. with some exceptions. you know, we're very disappointed to see republican congress members like michelle steel, young cam kevin mccarthy vote against the will of of on that pass bill. and it's up to us now to hold anti equality republicans or are just candidates in general. i'm accountable at the ballot in 2022. but the conversations we've had with our delegation here have largely then of course, we are in california. so we know that a lot of the fight is going to be, you know, these other state senators in other states that hopefully, you know, can be pushed by their colleagues in california to come along. >> and tom, just last week we had evan low on the show. i

spoke with him. he's the chair of the lgbtq caucus. as you as you know, we talked about conversation that he appeared to be having with various community groups. i believe if yours as well about. putting a bollot measure in know, on the november 2024 ballot, 2, asked voters to remove prop 8 from the state constitution. so walk us through what those conversations have been like. sure. well, i think the most important thing for folks to know is that there while there is an imminent threat to access to abortion in this country because of the dobbs decision. >> there is not an imminent threat at this moment to marriage equality. so we have been convening lgbtq+ leaders across the state to start having conversations about what that 2024 repeal would look like because it is time to get that discriminate. statute off the books. i will say in 2022, we need to remain focused on enshrining access to reproductive health care into the california constitution, which we do have the opportunity to do with

proposition one. and as i mentioned, we also need to be laser focused this year on keeping up really quality house majority and flipping senate seats because we're going to need real champions for our community in washington, d.c., fighting for us. and we need to to that this november. >> i'd also like to get your thoughts on the monkey pox. vaccine distribution. we had supervisor mandelman here just last agreeing with sentiments shared by state sen wiener and assemblyman matt haney. i'm calling the distribution for of the vaccine from the federal government, a public health crisis what have your conversations been like with our state of health officials and perhaps even those at the federal level? >> you know, we're lucky to have the leadership of folks like senator wiener and supervisor mandelman here in san francisco and in california who have been calling out the the real lack of access to vaccine and testing resources for monkeypox. you know, we still

just this morning, monkeypox was declared a public health emergency by the world health organization. and we're still lacking the sort of urgent response that we need in producing and getting those vaccines into communities across the state. this isn't just an issue impacting san francisco, even though we have the most of any city outside of new york in the entire country. but communities, you know, from san diego to sacramento to san francisco are all dealing with the same core issue, which is we don't have enough vaccines from the federal government to actually keep our communities safe and get folks vaccinated who need to be and stop this saying. so the conversations that have been happening at all levels from the local, the federal. but really what we need now is a more urgent federal response and more vaccines in arms in california. >> all right. tom temprano, political director with the quality, california. we appreciate your perspective this morning. thanks again for having me right. we'll be having me right. we'll be right back. here's why tribal leaders

four's rob nesbitt explains. >> before friday, every time someone got their first in shot, a second dose was set aside for them to get 28 days later. that won't be the case. moving forward by friday. the long wait times that monkeypox vaccine site seemed to improve. but the wait list for shots at the magnet. health clinic hasn't stopped have over 5,000 individuals in the queue who we have deemed eligible for vaccination by are awaiting enough supply here in the area. san francisco aids foundation ceo doctor tyler trim year says the clinic received 200 doses of the vaccine this week. 200 doses in comparison to our home and 5,000 person, waitlist is not going by. doctor peter chin-hong ucsf says one way to solve the vaccine. supply issue is by doling out the second doses that are sitting and waiting to those who have yet to receive their first dose in the san francisco department of public health agrees announcing a deferment of second doses to provide vaccines to more at-risk

was necessary to fire 15 staffers, many of whom she says were already on extended leave the day she took office. so each of those decisions was an immediate release. and, yes, i was prepared to replace each and every one of those individuals. however, there is concern among some progressives that the da is also planning on replacing the criminal justice reform programs that those staffers managed under her predecessor. the innocence commission is something that developed by chase. a building is one that i'm committed to keeping. i've i've been very vocal about i will also continue the re sentencing work that was going on under however, i just want to make sure that everything that we do is done responsibly. police accountability. is this something that you plan to maintain change? yes, no. that is something i'm dedicated to personally. >> i grew up hearing my grandmother talk about the fact that she had older brother that was >> killed in police custody.
