>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it is sunday the 24th of july. we have a lot to get to for you this morning. start by taking a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning, dave. good morning, 70. good morning, everybody. and that fog has returned yet again for today. there's the shot of the golden gate kind of covering things up. it like it's breaking up a bit in the city. >> and we'll be looking for another mostly sunny afternoon going on for today with temperatures much like what we experience from yesterday. also seeing quite a bit of a fog bank here at sfo. but good news there. no delays this

morning as by the way, speaking of that fog comes in like this. clears out pretty quickly. might have a few little scattered clouds in san francisco and along the coast. and again, back to the thick fog to greet us again tomorrow. good progress, though, penetrating well inland, as you can see, temperature check for you. most of the region in the 50's. pretty typical 61 for antioch and a contrast for you. most readings are a couple degrees ahead of where they were this time from yesterday. this is all coupled with the little bit of a breeze, but not quite the wind that we had from yesterday morning. the breakdown for you back up to about 90 or so well inland. it looks like by 2 o'clock. we'll take a closer inspection of your forecast for the day and into next week. stephanie. >> thanks very much, dave. our top story this morning. the oak fire burning out of control in mariposa county. it's burned nearly 12,000 acres and forced thousands of people to evacuate. this is a live look at the fire right now. governor gavin newsome declaring a state of emergency in mariposa county. monica deanda has the latest on the firefighting effort.

>> firefighters have been trying to get this fire under control, but it's just been growing and growing and the scars of this fire are already visible. >> the damage evident as the oak fire rages on. >> fires burning. it started yesterday 02:10pm, grew rapidly. extreme conditions out here. super dry, hot. >> this rapid spreading wildfires destroying anything in its path along the triangle road. too many. all that's left of this home and just down the road to charred cars. sit in this now empty plot of land this home. one of the lucky ones. but you can see just how close the fire was. at one point. >> we can't from the 10 structures have been lost. i'm not sure if those are all homes or just buildings. >> take a look. there's a group of firefighters here behind me. they're putting out some flames right now monitoring this area, trying to keep the flames from moving this way towards a home that's here sitting in this area off

conditions at those runners are going to be facing as they cross that this morning. and of course, is merit with this marathon means that there's going to be road closures in place all across san francisco kron four's camila barco live for us now at the finish line this morning with more on the energy out there. make a meal a good morning. >> good morning, stephanie. yet these runners, they have a lot of energy. of course, they must have some energy because they're running 26 miles. and after that, they will cross this finish line over here. like you said, they started about. but that about an hour and a half ago and runners, they're now running through the steep streets of san francisco. 23,000 people have signed up for the race. there are several races actually going on today, including the marathon and some of them will be participating here in person. others. we'll be doing it virtually now the race, it's bigger, more inclusive and more accessible than ever

before. the race has started and some runners are even halfway. do the course. here's a look right before, right as they hit the trail runner started here at the embarcadero. the course that goes through the golden gate bridge to sausalito and back now, organizers wanted to make this race inclusive. they say this is the first marathon in california to have a non-binary plus division event. organizers expanded their gender registration options. this means runners were able to choose non-binary trans to spirited male or female. when signing up this race, it's also featuring a program runners with disabilities. the marathon will include guides, teams, service animals and wheelchair users. now aside from the full marathon, there's also a 5 k 10 k half and an ultra marathon. so a lot of running happening here in san francisco today. but a heads up for drivers. there's going

to be some street closures around san francisco, especially at the embarcadero. if you are headed down here or around this area, the streets are going to be closed off at the embarcadero to cars until 3 this afternoon. and there's other roads around san francisco that will be closed off to cars or are closed off to cars right now we have those details online at kron 4 dot com and stephanie, the full marathon. like i said, 26 boyne 2 miles and runners have a time limit of 6 hours to complete that. so quite a challenge for them. but of course, they're going to be able to make it. and once they do, we will be here at the finish line to get some reaction. as to how that race went. i'm sure going to be a little tired, but of course, an accomplishment. i'll send it back to you. yeah, absolutely. a huge accomplishment. we look forward to getting their reactions at the finish line. thanks so much to you, camila for covering this for us. >> all right. coming up, state leaders met in san francisco to discuss the rise in hate

the south bay, people in one san jose neighborhood are calling for the closure of reid-hillview airport. >> this after a plane crashed in the neighborhood friday night, just yards away from an elementary school. this is video of a truck towing away. the mangled remains of that airplane. we know the pilot was seriously injured but is expected to survive as kron four's gayle ong reports. people who live in the area are tired of dealing with plane crashes. >> the wreckage of the site has been cleared and now neighbors are demanding the airport closed. of those 24 hours after a small plane crash in front of a home in east san jose, neighbors of reid-hillview airport gather near the site saturday yeah. >> speakers included the homeowner who lives right in front of where the plane crashed colin carl streets. and this woman who experience a plane crash in front of her

home more than 20 years ago. residents have feared a plane crash. the proximity of friday's crash so close to 2 elementary schools. residents say they are also concerned about environmental issues with the airport county board of supervisors chair cindy chavez attended the rally. she has been pushing for the airport's closure. >> on thursday, there will be a congressional hearing in front of roe. conn committee. that will give us an opportunity not only to talk about the crash, but also the because we need the faa and the epa to help us. >> the ntsb and faa are investigating the crash reporting from san jose gayle ong kron. 4 news >> and much the same as yesterday. we're looking at those inland temperatures reaching into the lower 90's. that's going to be mostly concentrated in the east bay, though, back with a bit to look at your forecast. kron. 4 morning news continues.

looking quite foggy, a bit chilly. and we know that the marathon is happening today. so my question now is, could things warm up for the runners outdoors, dave wells some clearing and parts of the bay. but yeah, the golden gate, its use of the trap to see a lot of this going on. >> it's good stuff, though, because we definitely need this to kind of keep this a surface moisture a little bit elevated because when things really dry out, we've got problems in certain want to hear anything says offshore winds. that's all. >> a combination of words we're going to be talking about and that's been held at bay. so that's good as well. back to golden gate bridge is a stephanie was talking about. good morning, everybody. all of towers are completely blocked out by this fog. definitely. that will keep the temperatures down. so been on the chill course. they're working the magic there. they got connecticut returning some people in so they're okay. but that's i guess it's nice that you can see some of the runners right in the background. some of them are already walking by this point, but they're so far ahead. so that's good. and meanwhile, sfo, yes, no delays this morning, but this is the improvement. i was just referring to look at the sunshine, working its magic.

hello. so we're improving on that front. not as foggy this morning as it was from yesterday. now, upstream, one of the things you look for this time of year is how is that monsoon hanging in its holding in the 4 corner states. now some of this moisture is expected to start to venture up north. that will show up in some of our regional models here rieht here on future cast for us. we've got 2 types of moisture work here. we're familiar with showers with daytime heating. now some of this mid-level moisture might make its way up to the bay, maybe by midweek in terms of giving us some scattered clouds. but that looks like to be almost see mid to upper 50's are the readings we can see across the bay. for now. 64 antioch, 56 for livermore. 54 for san jose and 51. meanwhile for santa

rosa. so we have the bay fog, one on the scattered clouds. still keep that in the afternoon for san francisco, 70 for the bay near 80 happening inland for this week. early bay fog continues with the clouds and all of that mixing out nicely warm inland. i say warm because this is july. so, you know, going get about 90, not quite heats by territory next week. and there is a little bit of a warm-up days. we do see 90 is happening, but we're not saying heat spike just yet way to get a little closer. see how that all comes together. but it might be popping bit more so today we'll coast 65 maybe some leftover scattered clouds for san francisco. 71 oakland, 84. meanwhile for san jose and across the bigger board there we see the concentration of those 90's pretty much again over the east bay hills in the east bay, north bay. by contrast, napoli popping at 79 87. meanwhile, for santa rosa and 63 san francisco. so we have the mild day warm inland are hot and up to the north bay into the 80's. we'll have more in your 4 zone forecast. stefanie, thanks very much.

dave. >> on fun, insula. one person is dead after being struck by kyle train. the accident shutting down service in both directions in palo alto last night. the tracks reopened this morning. the train was going northbound when it collided with the person near west meadow drive. there were about 200 people on board the train at the time. no passengers were injured. police have not released the name of the victim. this is cal train 6 fatality of the year. in san francisco. several groups got together for a roundtable discussion on how to stop hate incidents against the asian american and pacific islander community. according to a report from the california department of justice, the number of anti-asian hate crimes more than doubled annually after the onset of covid-19 during yesterday's discussion, california attorney general rob bonta said incidents of hate went up across the board. 32% from 2020 to 2021. but for the ap i community, there's been a 177% increase.

good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news had start off this half hour with a look at our forecast. dave spahr in the weather center with the very latest. good morning day. a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and we're talk about the runners. here's a live look of a bargain get a nice shot of what's going on there. there's the >> exploratory. i'm right behind us. there. the runners role gathered there about 30 minutes ago or so. but we have overcast skies in place now. so a lot of the ground fog has been taken care of. so. >> now we're going to take care of this is layer of cloud cover, which we can see lower fog and overcast here happening half moon bay to give you another idea what's going on with this? these are the slowest places to clear up to get the coast golden gate that usually gets cleared out

the least above us, though. it's a different weather pattern with clear skies to work on this fog to clear it out. now, tomorrow we're going to the same thing again. it just shows you would not have a nice healthy marine layer. that's good news to bring in not only the ocean cold air, but it's also somewhat moist. and that's something that we like to hear about moisture of the ground level with all the dry conditions. we have a little bit of a onshore breeze. it's very weak, though. only single digits. once we get some daytime heating that will drive the engine for the local winds 50's across most of the bay. in fact, 64 in iraq, the only outlier we have right now, the breakdown today, we're back up to the lower 90's going on mostly in the east bay. elsewhere inland. expect the 80's course. we'll get more into this in your 4 zone forecast and check that extended as well. stephanie, thanks very much, dave. >> for the first time since the covid-19 pandemic, the world health organization declares another global health emergency for monkeypox. the extraordinary move comes as the disease spreads in dozens of countries. joe khalil has

the details from washington. >> monkeypox is now a global health emergency. that rare declaration coming from the world health organization saturday who director doctor tedros gabe resist said it wasn't an easy call. the committee who makes that determination was split. but it means now who member nations will provide more funding, more resources and coordinate on vaccines and treatments, hoping those measures will slow global transmission. the who says the vast majority of growing cases are among men who have with other men here in the u.s. there are nearly 3,000 cases almost a 3rd in new york alone, california, florida, georgia and illinois. also case counts higher than 200 the white house and the cdc are facing questions about whether the level of testing they're doing now is enough and whether they were caught flat footed. but there's one key important similarity.

>> covid and with monkeypox and that is cdc's inability to see the data in real time. during an interview with news nation's leland vitter last week. doctor bob leahy to pointed out the u.s. bought more than a million doses of a vaccine from denmark before it was inspected and approved by the fda. the european union said, well, this low, you know, this vaccine is safe. and the fda still said we're not going to approve it. >> the white house did release its strategy on monkeypox in june. the cdc scaled-up testing opening 78 sites in 48 states. it includes shipping out nearly 300,000 vaccines around the country immediately with plans for 1.0, 6 million more over the coming months and the agency is working with labs to produce tens of thousands of tests every day. >> that was joe khalil reporting for us reps with the san francisco health department. tell kron 4 of the city has a significant number of monkeypox cases but does not have enough vaccine supply

the city health department requested 35,000 doses to meet demand. but to date, only 7700 doses have been shared with the city. san francisco has identified 197 cases and anticipates more in total 434 monkeypox cases have been identified in california a man suspected of contracting monkeypox as fully recovered from his illness after undergoing treatments that required pushing through lots of red tape. he shared his story with kron four's felecia call. >> earlier this month through the centers for disease control and prevention's exhaustive compassionate use system. doctor peter chin-hong at ucsf was a to prescribe kevin kong and 6 other patients at the hospital. the anti-viral drug t-poxx a federally approved treatment for smallpox in the u.s. but not monkeypox. you so. >> caring, so and it was so

of them are about to just approached line this all started here at the embarcadero at 5.30, this morning and take a look some at some of the runners left of me and the startnline this morning. they started here at the embarcadero. the 4th then went to the golden gate bridge to sausalito and back now, organizers have made this race very inclusive. this is the first marathon in california to have a non-binary of months division one and i have been told that there 9 non-binary participate in event. organizers expanded the gender registration options. this means runners were able to choose non-binary trans to spirited male or female when signing up. now, this rain off is also featuring a program for runners with disabilities. the marathon is including guides dual team service animals and wheelchair users. there's a lot of rain here happening today. it's not just

>> start this half hour with a look at our forecast within those runners outdoors. expect dave. >> okay. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. still a bit on the cool side and lots of cloud cover going on. pretty much still in san francisco, as you can see with the runners doing their thing. what a flip it over because we haven't seen the shot yet this morning of the east bay shoreline still covered over in the way of ground fog. this the shot from berkeley now to give you a general idea of this perspective, if you get a couple of 1000 feet up in the atmosphere, it's a different program entirely. not only is it clear, but it's much warmer. then at the surface getting up there around almost 80 degrees and also extremely dry like arctic air dry. so you have a contrast with all of that of stairs. meanwhile, the ground, it's this cold, moist air, the exact opposite of what changes things son has to come out to be the engine to mix this out. and we go back into the clear mode which will do in a few hours. well, tomorrow morning, it's the same drill again that ocean cold air with the marine layer spewing right back in again.

hills. where we can see down the east bay shoreline. what would be all that to landscaping. now we can't see anything as you can see with the fog in place. you just get a couple 1000 feet in the atmosphere to different atmosphere engirely. and that's going to be the case. it looks like just about all week with our traditional marine layer coming on in. and that's kind of a nice saving grace for at least a lot of the bay area. it every day brings in that moisture level keeps the ground from drying out too much going forward because will be enough clearing during the day for the sun to do its magic heading up to tahoe. this is what it looks like. got 87 tomorrow tuesday. 82 87 on wednesday, plow puff thrown in there deliberately because we do see summary our monsoon moisture coming in the mid layers of the atmosphere. that's a different type of moisture in the atmosphere. will we get as the cold marine layer from our ocean? this coming in from the desert southwest. and that has to be quite hot. 68 for any oxford right now. 61 conquered 60 for

david. our top story this morning. the oak fire burning out of control in their post. the county. >> and we just received new numbers from cal fire this morning. the oak fire now a 14,000 acres forcing thousands of people to evacuate. the fire has more than doubled in size in the last 24 hours, governor newsome declaring a state of emergency in mariposa county. monica deanda reports from the front lines of that fire. >> firefighters have been trying to get this fire under control, but it's just been growing and growing and the scars of this fire are already visible. >> the damage evident as the oak fire rages on. >> fires burning. it started yesterday 02:10pm, grew rapidly. extreme conditions out here. super dry, hot. >> this rapid spreading wildfires destroying anything in its path along the triangle road. too many. all that's left of this home and just down the road to charred cars. sit in this now empty plot of

course, this marathon means that there are also going to be road closures in place across san francisco. >> kron 4 camila barco live for us at the finish line this morning where she saw the first man cross about an hour ago. camilla. >> well, yeah, that person interest in this race in about 2 hours and a half. so put this into perspective. 9 o'clock this morning and people have finished this race before 9 o'clock this morning. and they ran 26 miles, so pretty productive. morning out here at the embarcadero. it's been quite an accomplishment for many people because that running that cross the finish line, it was his first time doing this san francisco marathon. take a look at what it was like here earlier this morning. like you said, stephanie, this race started at 05:30am, in morning. the racers they started here the embarcadero. their journey took them to the building a bridge. they went to sausalito and now they are back here the

embarcadero. organizers wanted to make this race inclusive. they say that this is the first marathon here in the state to have a non-binary plus this means runners were able to choose non-binary trans to male or female. when signing up, this race is also featuring a program for runners with disabilities in the marathon has included animals and wheelchair user users. and aside from the full marathon, there's 5 k 10 half and marathon. so there's been a lot of running here in san francisco. and as we said, a glimpse of the person who first crossed finish line. here's what had to yeah, i'm surprised i didn't expect come out and go this and the previous races. but one investor times in this >> i'm really happy how the marathon what i think. i

dave spahr. how's it looking out there day? well, morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. fog still laying around for some of our camera shots, but if get too far from home and it really breaks up considerably for those in the valleys, even up in moran, for example. >> parts of the peninsula. it's starting to break up nicely. it's just around the immediate bay protected the golden gate. you can see that's where to tip. typically kind of hovers around. also the shot that we've been having for you making out a little bit more the ground off to the distance here of the east bay shoreline. so starting things off with a traditional fog. that will be the story again for tomorrow, waiting for about 9 o'clock 4 to break on out of the 4 corner states. this is another area we're watching with the rotation here of the monsoon moisture in it will make an appearance for mountains throughout the course of the week. ahead, let's go back to future cast for here. here's the marine layer mixes out nicely for the afternoon. we get some afternoon clouds popping up there in the mountains back to the marine layer here and off towards the mountains. you add some daytime heating on monday afternoon. we get a couple stray showers working in there and that will be a possibility
