active tomorrow. but what's left over the exhaust comes right across. you can see the sacramento valley incorporates with our low level moisture as well. and we'll be fighting through probably more cloud cover tomorrow than today. now, in some ways that prevents the atmosphere from warming up as much. but we might get some instability. that's the big factor. and again, you can see a better flare up happening tomorrow. maybe getting up there around yosemite. if you're headed out that actually deal with some scattered thunder showers. by that 0. 72 right now, antioch, most readings in the east bay are still in the 60's 60 santa rosa. they've seen some movement this hour. 57 san francisco, 66 for san jose. breaking it down for you again today. we've got the gradual clearing and mild. that's going to be the east bay. we're already seeing some progress there. 70's and 80's game plan tomorrow, mostly cloudy with an isolated thunder shower, thrown in there for good measure. it's the monsoon moisture kind of reaching its peak. a bet it will be around on monday, too. as the little note here in the monday night, then we should start clearing out by tuesday in the week ahead, looks pretty mild holding in the

80's today. 64 san francisco, 74 oakland, again, got those variable clouds hanging around in the south bay to an 81. here's a wider real estate couple 80's up there in the north bay mid to upper 80's to the far east bay. but for this time of year, not bad at all. have the 4 zone forecast for you in a bit. l a. >> for help this morning, the number of monkeypox cases in the bay area continues to rise. san francisco has the most people infected in the bay area with more than 800 cases reported as of yesterday. and there is growing demand for the vaccine. joining me to talk about this now is state senator scott wiener. thank you so much for joining us this morning. >> it's a well, it hasn't happened here, but we are learning this morning that spain has reported 2 people died there because of monkeypox. >> and 75 people in west africa lost their lives. so is california treating this is a life-threatening disease? >> and i do think california is taking this extremely
9:18 am
seriously and term. doing everything in our power to expand access to vaccination. so to people connected to treatment and to get information we can always do more and should be doing more, of course. but i do believe cold front is treating this with a sense of urgency that it deserves. >> and we've been talking about the demand being greater than the supply we've seen long lines of people waiting to get a monkey pox vaccine in your home county of san francisco. mayor london breed this week officially declared a public health emergency. so what can we expect from that move? >> well, the state of of projecting this is very serious >> will really streamline and he's in the process of enter into contracts, hiring people getting testing and vaccination sites up and running. maker response even more them both. so. i'm really
9:19 am
throw the mayor. i think that's i think we should do it. state level was well. >> so by thursday, california recorded less than 800 monkeypox infections as mentioned. and the department of public health is requesting 800,000 more for state of 40 million people. is this virus spreading quickly at this time and is shoring up a local supply, a sign that it's just going to get worse before it could get better. >> i think it is spreading quickly and it's it's celery the lack of vaccines. makes a really to control a lot people, people here in san francisco. i know elsewhere of a particular year, one of the vaccine. and more and more people are realizing that that there are issued get the vaccine. so that's a good thing. there's increasing awareness. people want the vaccine, but the city keeps running because people want to we have to wait for the
9:20 am
federal government to some more for you at some more of to us. we'd like to start getting our allocation directly from the federal government like los angeles times to just cut out the middle person. and our doses more because they can't come fast. some of my concern. i number turn for one of my big concerns is the more this president, particularly if it starts spreading straight to unity's. we're going to see a dramatically increased demand for vaccines far beyond what we're seeing today, which will swab any increases in vaccine supply that we seize the faster we can move to get vaccines into arms. the better. >> and so what's the likelihood of seeing this disease at this time spread into other is there a likelihood of this becoming a larger problem? >> we don't control it quickly. i'm pretty confident that it will that, you know,
9:21 am
there's nothing in her about this virus it really started with a game but it can to others. again, we don't control sooner that there's a good chance that it will. we have a small window to control. this operates. >> and we did mention that a few groups were singled out and discussing where it has been spreading more so but how do we balance out spreading this information to make sure these communities are safe without stigmatizing them? >> yeah, i first we have to be honest with people kuz. there's a risk and not high from that. game by over, walk away or are the ones where we're getting stuck. and so that it's important for members of my community. i'm a man. members of my community
9:22 am
to understand that, you know, that they need to really be proactive about going to get vaccinated and and take whatever actions their own lives take protect themselves. that would be doing a disservice if we every pretended that it was not large this impacting game by man but we can do that in a way that doesn't stigmatize people. not about we're already waning. it's just like we do with it. i d blaming game even ising saying that, you know, we're responsible or whatever shaming and that's, of course, that's never been a good public health strategy and telling people you should never played. never have again, that this is not that's not reality. so we need to give people information, make sure that people make informed
9:23 am
choices about their own risk level that they're going to tolerate. make sure that people know where to get a vaccine, how to get treatment. if they get much the park's, how to what to be on lookout for symptoms so they isolate and not affect other people got to. those are the kinds of things that we can do to keep the community. yes, it is possible. >> and because the demand is outweighing the supply, the world health organization and centers for disease control did mention that smallpox vaccines can also be used an effective rate of 85% for people who don't have a skin condition like eczema, too help combat monkeypox. so i know it's been eradicated since 1972. no one's getting that vaccine at this time. but there is a national stockpile. so what's the likelihood of reaching into that stockpile in order to get those vaccines out? and while we wait for the monkeypox vaccine, specifically.
9:24 am
>> and rick, to know facts. and this is the new vaccine that we all want people to was designed for smallpox, not for monkeypox, but we everyone believes that both the old smallpox vaccine and this smallpox like they're very effective against as well. one of the reasons of monkeypox started spreading more not for go was because people stopped getting vaccinated for smallpox. smallpox was eradicated. so first of all, on this, the new vaccine to 10 back scene, which is the one that doesn't have the significant side effects. that's what we want people to this current. only one small manufacturer and denmark. that is just making this vaccine. think we're going to go to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, manufacturing and bless them for doing it's not enough. we need to get this vaccine licensed to other pharmaceutical companies to dramatically expand our production. with respect to
9:25 am
the older smallpox, 13 wrex into it see that smallpox vaccine. i'm like the new one is a live virus vaccine. which is why and, you know, compromised people or people with eczema can to it that that is an option. we do have i think 100 billion or more doses of it in our national stockpile and cities and counties and states are able to access the challenge for first talk is very complicated to administer it to take numerous shots. it's not just like one. so you have to do like a whole bunch of injections of the injection site. it's also because it's a live virus as it's kind of significant side effects that, again, for healthy people don't probably going to some of the fine but does have significant side effects and the site of the vaccination can be contagious for the for the virus that is use and not
9:26 am
vaccines to to cover it be very protective of other people in their household. so it's not to make them and so it is it's a complicated vaccine. it we really need to. we do have the option of tapping into that sought out and vaccinating bunch of people with an effective vaccine. and i know that our state and local health authorities have. thought about that. but it's not ideal. it would really be a a sort of a more last resort. >> thank you so much to say senator scott wiener for joining us. we'll be right back. hope you're having a

beautiful saturday morning. i have my cup of coffee here and dave sphar has your forecast. >> okay. good like a warning, everybody. and it looks like there's some clouds in the coffee here. oh, you're so vain. anyway, haha, golden gate bridge are seeing a little bit more of action going on. we can at least see something east bay shoreline. yeah, we can see the shoreline going on. but still the overcast skies going on. we have a lower level moisture. we have the upper level moisture going on here with the monsoon outbreak that we have. it's relatively benign going on. we have daytime heating, though. that's we can spark off potentially when you get that instability going on there for an isolated shower or thundershower in all it takes is one lightning strike and you've got problems. now back to the fog that should mix out pretty nicely this afternoon for a good chunk of the east bay, north bay. but
9:30 am
at the coast, we're keeping a kind of overcast for good chunk of the day. back comes tonight fills up the bay probably before midnight linger out all overnight into tomorrow morning as well. so do this whole thing again tomorrow. however, we're going to the intrusion of that mid-level moisture coming our way from the east from what we get this afternoon up there on the mountain. 72 antioch, most readings in the east bay 60's matched in the north bay, too. a chilly. 57, san francisco. 58. meanwhile, 4 half moon bay essentially turning mostly sunny. well inland. temperatures control, though, 83 by 4 o'clock, although we'll see some areas race to near about 90 know that mild trend will continue. but again, watching up in this monsoon moisture the next couple of days. getting more into that coming up in just a bit. l a >> san francisco police department is resurfacing surveillance video connected to a 2016 homicide investigation to help solve the murder of 24 year-old mitchell warren as kron 4 sleep. your goal reports.
