quick into a very pleasant afternoon forecast for this time of year. so we're going to hold with his nice numbers. here's how we stand now. mid 60's to lower 60's across most of the district. 59 covers half moon bay. 57 san carlos. most of the readings are in the 60's. all that storminess up in the mountains. that's now departed. it's into nevada. that's going to be steering clear tahoe reno, even down to the somebody going to turn to a monsoon thunder showers off for a little while for a nice weekend in store for us. and once we clear up green layer for us, we go into the sunny mode. 81, it looks like by 2 o'clock and we do see a little bit of a heat bump will towards the the middle portion of next week. we'll get into all of that coming up in just a bit. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> business owners in san francisco, chinatown say enough is enough after another string of burglaries in the area. one restaurant owner telling us the burglaries have happened so often over the last year. she's thinking about closing burglars,

targeted dim sum corner for the 3rd time this year. the owner says restaurants have struggled to stay open after the covid-19 pandemic. and these burglaries are making things even harder. the business owner tells us she's hoping to raise awareness of these issues and encourage others to speak up. >> my hope that we do get our resources me to get, you know, that rolls and, you know, people feel safe like in our neighborhood so that we can continue to get people coming back to chinatown. >> that restaurant owner has the businesses have heard from sfpd police assuring them that these crimes are being investigated and patrols will continue in the hours when those crimes are most likely to happen. a san francisco sheriff's cadet is accusing supervisor shamann walton of verbally and physically threatening him. now are butler is calling on the supervisor to admit to what he did. he says it happened at a

security checkpoint in city hall when walton was asked to remove his belt at a metal detector. >> it was the week an upright. so it was a lot of people, but you can actually hear a pin drop once he started in it felt like, you know, once he realized everybody was watching, but he decided he wanted to put on a show and he looked at me point that the glass and said is it words like you who look like me? that's always a problem. and then continue on to say that the process was summit where? >> so it was i mean, bears. and it said, because, you know, he he has a platform, any for something better than that. >> we've asked nupervisor walton for his response to the cadets comments and his office referred to a u.s. to a statement that reads in part these incidents seek to vilify me and my character. i would never expect the sheriff's department to provide an accurate account of what transpired between 2 black men. a sit in protest at parker elementary school turns violent with parents claiming

school district security officers assaulted them. and we have video to show you recorded on thursday from the demonstration at parker elementary school in oakland. and you can see from that video there appeared to be a physical altercation between a person in that video and usd security man. now the school district says the person in the video shown here was trespassing. but demonstrators responded with this. >> there's nobody trespassing. only people, trespassing is usd right on this community. and they've been doing this for almost a 20 year period of closing schools and communities that need them the most. >> the demonstration started on the last day of school back on may 25th and the group is protesting the school board's decision to close the school school officials making that decision because of what they're calling a lack of funding. in the east bay. 18 in san leandro is recovering after being injured in a

shooting. >> this happening near mckinley elementary school in san leandro, high school. police say the girl was injured by a bullet fragment hitting her foot. it's not known if the shooting was a robbery attempt at a local business or a targeted shooting. the shooters left the scene before police could get there and the search continues this morning for suspects. in the north bay, the parents of a baby that died from fentanyl are now charged with murder and child abuse. the photos that you're seeing here are from the couple's home. these were taken back in may when the child died. evan frost taken madison, bernard face felony charges. police say bernard fell asleep in bed with her 15 month-old daughter and that's when the child ingested the fentanyl. police say they found drugs in the bed. the parents are expected to appear in court later this month. a 17 year-old boy is dead after a car crash involving the chp. it happened in vallejo. the chp says the teenager crash

just before 01:00am friday. police say it happened after a high-speed chase. they say the driver refused an order to pull over. investigators say the boy was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck. his passenger, a 16 year-old girl suffered minor injuries. a south san francisco police officer is recovering this morning after being dragged by a car during a traffic stop. it happened on the 1000 block of san mateo avenue near sfo. police say while they were speaking with the driver who took off hitting one of the officers and dragging him, police chased the car to san bruno where it crashed. officers arrested the driver. police say they found burglary tools in his car. the injured officer is expected to be okay. happening today, the south bay, there's a new effort to get the youngest children vaccinated against covid-19 in san jose. the children's discovery museum is hosting a special clinic in offering free passes to families who get their kids.

their shots. the clinic is open to anyone between the ages of 6 months and older. it starts at 9.30 this morning and was to 12 30 in the afternoon. and today is day 2 of the outside lands music festival in golden gate park and check out the scene as the festival kicked off on friday, roughly 750,000 people are expected to come together in san francisco for the three-day festival. one fan coming all the way from yukon for the 4th year in a row. >> the people the to the music, the music always great. the food is even better. >> and green day is set to perform today. and post malone will wrap it up for us on sunday. coming up on the kron 4 morning news at 7.20, new help could be on the way for police officers suffering from ptsd. >> we'll tell you about the new law meant to support, provide more support for those officers. plus, as massive

>> democratic leadership say they've struck a deal on the inflation reduction act by adjusting some of the tax policies in the original bill to secure the vote of more moderate members of the party. despite pushback from republicans. president biden says the bill helps fight inflation while addressing climate change and reducing the national deficit by over 300 billion dollars. i spoke with california state senator alex padilla, who is a supporter of the bill. >> by making corporations in america pay more of their fair share. we're going to cover these costs and reduce the federal deficit will which will ease the pressure on the people's tax bills across the board. so it really is a win win, win, win it. >> republicans cannot stop democrats from passing the bill, but they say they will drag out the vote through a process called a vote, a rama. that's where members of the senate can offer amendments to the bill that must be voted on and that process could take hours.

entire west and this monsoon business. where are you just a little bit holding together in the rockies here? so what we're going to see is going to be far different than the last couple of days for this weekend. taking a break from all of that. if you're headed up to the mountains, great for up there except for maybe some of the flooding. they've already had a maybe somewhat she ground to deal with, but at least no additional rain. lots of sunshine coming your way back to future cast for here's the lower level moisture evaporating away a little bit. the way some cloud build up into the afternoon. up in the mountains. tonight, we do the whole thing again with the fog, the coastal drizzle. if you're near water in the east bay shoreline, a little bit of drizzle there again, mixes out to a mostly sunny afternoon mountains. again, some afternoon clouds might get a little sprinkle isolated. as you can see there, read you some of the temperature check. we're in the lower to middle 60's along the east bay shoreline, antioch, 66 62 santa rosa, 60 for san francisco. 65 san jose. nothing unusual at the winds, but just want to point out a little bit more of a pop happening tomorrow afternoon. so today, again, with inland heating, we see the typical

flare up of those winds right around the carquinez strait, particularly in the east bay. in those valleys, it will be plowing right through. but then tomorrow afternoon and evening, it really starts to pop quite a bit. get some of the north bay involved here on more of the east bay as well. so not to be reimagination. if you're headed over the restaurant or whatever your festivities are in sunday. yeah. little bit of that strong onshore wind will be working its magic. so in a live shot of the east bay shoreline morning, fog clouds there. they are a mild 70's going on for the bay 80's inland tomorrow. marine layer deal again, touch warmer for the afternoon and next week. now we'll start the week off someone in the temperate mode here. still the 80's, but it will start to pop in some lower 90's to again. nothing too unusual for this time of year in pretty contained compared to how those numbers can store on us. 68 san francisco, 71 for oakland. we'll try 79 for san jose turkic sunny i'll discuss is not there just yet, but we'll take care of these clouds pretty quickly. mid 80's going along the far east bay up to the north bay. novato may pop

in about 80 but still plenty of 70's to dish out the the air conditioner checks in at 67 in a bit. we'll have your 4 zone forecast and that extended to stephanie. thanks very much, dave. >> the deadly mckinney fire burning in siskiyou county is now 30% contained. that fire started about a week ago burning nearly 60,000 acres. 4 people are dead and 87 homes destroyed. news. uc davis research says children exposed to wildfire. smoke can experience inflammation in their blood stream and that could lead to more health problems. kron four's felecia call spoke with the authors of this study. >> from 2017 to daily collection of blood samples taken from 100 healthy children, ages 9 to 11 in the sacramento area show exposure to air pollutants caused by wildfire smoke can have an immediate negative impact on the young body. they had reduced. >> cardiac autonomic regulation. so that's a marker

of overall regulation of heart activity. phd candidate in a and associate professor doctor chameleon hostin, our authored the study out of the department of psychology at uc davis. their research was published this week in the journal, new directions for child and adolescent development. >> the data is based on the levels of pollutants recorded by the environmental protection agency during major fire events, including the mendocino complex fires in 2018 levels of pm. 2.5, which are a small. >> particulate matter in the air that is released during wildfires was associated with levels of inflammation in children slide. i think it's important to recognize that children are more vulnerable to air because organs and systems are just and because inhale more relative to their body weight compared to adults. 27% of the kids studied experienced

inflammation in their blood when fires burned around their neighborhoods and recorded high levels of fine particulate matter. these types of cardiac autonomic regulation levels or or measures can the associate with childhood obesity in childhood, but they also may be predictive of later heart health outcomes like the risk for heart attack. when people are older, study suggests a public response is required to reduce children's exposure to particulate matter. >> police to do. >> kron 4 news >> tourism at yellowstone is down about 40% this summer after devastating floods in june. you can see some of that on the screen behind me here. no roads were wiped out in and around the park and 2 of the 5 entrances of yellowstone or to yellowstone were blocked. park officials say could be years before all the roads are fixed. and this week, the senate unanimously passed a bill providing support for police officers suffering from ptsd. that bill is called the

public safety officer support act and it would help allow families public safety officers who died by suicide to seek death benefits. that measure now awaits president biden's signature. the bill's authors saying police officers are at a higher risk for developing ptsd. then the average person we spoke with a retired walnut creek police sergeant who called the bill a step in the right direction. it looks like we're getting isolated. i mean, this is long overdue. the facts are as that. >> you want to police officer dies in the line of duty. their families are taken care of both by the local level, the state and at the federal level it comes to suicide, which actually is the leading cause of death for law enforcement officers. they don't get any benefits. and the other big thing that this bill is going to do is it's

halloween time is back in disneyland and disney california adventure parks! >> governor newsom and democratic state lawmakers continue to push for stronger abortion rights here in california. our capitol bureau reporter eytan wallace spoke with a bay area lawmaker about her new proposal. >> and there are several abortion rights bills going through the legislature this month. bill supporters say will help safeguard the right to choose, but anti-abortion groups say the legislation will send the state in the wrong direction. >> they're taking away your freedom. governor gavin newsom, not missing words today releasing this video criticizing republican

governors in states where abortion is either completely outlawed or significantly restricted the truth that this why these red state governors that are preening and pretending to be about freedom. they're increasingly nothing more than just bullies. it comes as newsom has stressed, california will always be a safe haven for abortion, especially in light of the u.s. supreme court's 5 to 4 decision to overturn roe v wade, wake up. wake up america, some endorsed a statewide ballot measure set to go before voters this november. that would enshrine abortion rights into the california constitution that has lawmakers of the capital are taking steps, they say will further protect abortion across the state. my message is to pass the bill. that's what oakland democratic assembly member buffy wicks hopes will happen to her bill. >> known as ab. 22 23. the proposal would make it illegal in california to be investigated and criminally prosecuted for ending a pregnancy or experiencing pregnancy loss here in california. >> you know, we fundamentally believe that women agency over

2.81. in only 81 with a sunny afternoon going on here. this is for the inland valleys, even some 70's to be found for highs up in the north bay later today. meanwhile, the ballpark today is a the a's host, the giants for a 7 game time temps pretty much in the mid 60's, maybe in the upper 60's to start variable clouds and cool as the fog returns. west wind about 10 to 15 in a bit. we'll have a look at your 4 zone forecast. a look at that extended to stephanie. >> thanks very much. game monkeypox cases in sonoma county are on the rise. the latest figures show a 50% jump in less than 2 weeks in 11 days. sonoma county health officials say monkeypox cases more than doubled to 17 cases. doctor john swartzberg with uc berkeley says the situation with monkeypox is similar to the start of the covid-19 outbreak when testing was behind. the doctor adds now is the time to be vigilant about our personal hygiene and be

aware that the virus can infect anyone. >> because monkeypox doesn't differentiate to differentiate between or women, orientation. all right. now we're seeing a intersections been we do control it now. it's going to be. throughout the country throughout the world, in the arm, children in fields as well. >> the doctor says president biden steps this week declaring monkeypox a public health emergency will help make more vaccines available. and we have new data from the cdc on the spread of monkeypox. check this out. this is data collected between may 17th and july 22nd. 99% of reported cases were from men and 94% reported male to male contact. most patients reported having multiple partners instead, their symptoms included rashes. in

the east bay, oakland lgbtq center is offering another option to get the monkeypox vaccine. the center's glenn burke wellness clinic is now giving out shots by appointment only on tuesdays and fridays. >> we'll feel a lot more comfortable coming to the lgbtq center here in oakland because it an lgbtq space. that's a safe space for our community where we've already help people with sort of services and other other resources. >> so father vaccinating about 40 people a day. clinic reps say 800 people have already registered and that number just keeps on growing more monkeypox vaccines have arrived in san francisco city. health officials shared late friday. they got more than 10,000 doses from the state. the walk-in clinic at san francisco general hospital reopens tuesday through friday next week from 08:00am to

noon. the clinic also opens saturday. the 13th from 08:00am to 03:30pm. you can also make appointments for a monkey pox vaccine. with kaiser ucsf and sutter. we have details on our website. kron 4 dot com. the san francisco aids foundation sent out this tweet asking for volunteers to help administer monkeypox vaccine shots. keep in mind, you do have to be authorized and trained to administer vaccines. and you asked to please contact the san francisco aids foundation. if this is something you'd like to help out with. a lab in berkeley is working to improve the turnaround. time for monkeypox test results right now. high quality covid pcr tests at renegade take about 4 and a half hours to complete. now, the lab is also working on new ways to test for the monkeypox virus. and the lab is processing monkeypox test for solano county with hopes to also at san francisco into the mix. in

santa clara county, former ufc fighter cain. velasquez pleaded not guilty to a string of charges, including attempted murder. he's accused of trying to kill harry in a separate case. clark day is accused of sexually molesting a 4 year-old boy who's related to can. prosecutors say that february 28th on february 28th blazquez chased color today in a car on highway one. 0, one and tried to shoot him and instead wounding another man in the process. he was arrested the same day. a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for next month. on the peninsula women are dead after a car crash on friday morning. their car apparently crashed into a parked semi truck. chp says there were actually 3 women riding in that car and just after they got off a san mateo bridge, that car veered across lanes of the highway, striking a big rig parked on the side of the road. the driver and one passenger died at the scene and the 3rd victim is now in

the hospital recovering the cause of the crash still under investigation. uc berkeley faces another setback to plans of building more student housing at people's park. a state appeals court is has issued an injunction to temporarily halt construction people's park. it historic advocacy and other groups filed a lawsuit against uc berkeley saying the university failed to consider alternative locations for the proposed housing site at the park. further demolition of the park came to a temporary halt on friday after the injunction. this as protesters clashed with officers during beginning stages of the project earlier this week, the project would add more than 1100 affordable housing apartments. but the president of the advocacy group says there are other alternatives. >> one site is over a block away earthquake on safe parking lot. they can build their or at any of the other

alternative sites that they have actually indicated. so we asked the question why people parking lot earthquake and say parking lot industrial park. >> if the appeal prevails in litigation, the court's decision means that university. we'll be unlikely to resume work on the site until at least october. happening today. bay area activists march in richmond to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the explosion of the chevron richmond refinery. investigators with the u.s. chemical safety board reported that chevron ignored warnings about corrosion in the pipe that eventually caused the fire. the smoke from the explosion sent thousands of people to the hospital back in august of 2012. the march will be led by richmond, our power coalition. that's a local organization that fights for climate justice. they also advocate for the eventual phase out of oil refineries across our state. the march starts at

football stars bright young cliff branch will be inducted into the pro football hall of fame. >> yeah. was a super bowl champion and a 4 time pro bowler for the forty-niners. he was also says selected to the nfl all-decade team for the 90's and was the league's comeback player in the year in 1999, i should say no. he spoke about the honor during the hall of fame game earlier this week. >> super thrilled and honored to be here and then them on so many great players pave the way set a standard. and i game such unique brotherhood and got a chance to sit down with a bunch of people and just talk about ball their time and and their journey. and while aking it all in. >> to what do you attribute your success as a player? >> you know, for me, it's really open to coaching. and for me, i was never satisfied. how could i get better as a player to be better for my teammates and the organization that means a lot to me.

shower pop up a little bit as the monsoon tries to edge up here, take a hit. and then it goes back down again to so it could be a relatively quiet week up in the hills. we've got lower 80's for highs here. reduced a little bit on tuesday. so it's a pretty nice forecast there as well. so here's what's going on. a storm tracker 4, not much at all. in fact, is just ground return. you see here the only thing left of the monsoon is way up in the mountains in the battle for right now. flare up with some daytime heating. but for the most part, we'll stay mostly sunny everywhere. so watching the whole movie as a whole going through the weekend and early into next week, stopping about here. we've got a little the monsoon try to sneak in here. but then after that, it starts to shove on down back to the southeast. now we do see our temperatures start to warm up a little bit by midweek. onward, a touch, but it looks like it might start to relax again into the following weekend. so this is not too bad here and certainly nothing triple digits. risi 68 san francisco, the 4 zone forecast mid 60's along the coast. burlingame does about 73 today. to the south. it's

>> on the peninsula, california awards, the city of san mateo over 1 million dollars to repair its 50 year-old marina library, state assembly. speaker pro tempore held kevin millon presented a check for 1.3 million dollars to san mateo city leaders outside the library and that money will go towards an estimated 5 million dollar reconstruction project to shore up the building's foundation. the library serves right now over 45,000 people every year. heads up. if you're flying out this weekend, there's been lots of cancellations and delays and it's expected to get worse. according to flight where there have been more than 1400 cancellations in the city or rather in the u.s. on friday, along with 7,000 delays, american airlines being hit the hardest with more than 250 cancellations and 100 delays. the cause of the problems is not clear at this moment, but adding to all of this is that

thunderstorms are expected along the east coast and today flightaware reported more than 10,000 delays in over 1500 cancellations. so make sure you check your boarding pass and you're boarding times once you get to the airport, alice, some bad news for those traveling on american airlines. the airlines says it's cutting 2% of its flights in september and october. and this comes as most airlines struggle with staffing shortages as more passengers decide, it's safe to travel again. nancy pelosi is one day visit to taiwan on tuesday, continuing to escalate tensions between china and the u.s. just yesterday, china suspended military climate and anti drug cooperation with the u.s. over the house speaker's visit reporter kelli meyer has the details for us. >> china retaliating against the united states. breaking off talks on everything from military communications to climate. the white house slamming the decision. it is a

mild forecast for you. we've got it coming up in just a bit. stephanie, thank you very much, dave. >> business owners in san francisco, chinatown say enough is enough after another string of burglaries in the area. one restaurant owner telling us the burglaries have happened so often over the last year. she's thinking about closing burglars, targeted dim sum corner for the 3rd time this year. the owner says restaurants have struggled to stay open after the covid-19 pandemic. and these burglaries are just making things even harder. she's hoping by speaking up, she can help to raise awareness of these issues and encourage others to do the same. >> my hope that we do get our resources with to get, you know, that rolls and, you know, people feel safe like in our neighborhood so that we can continue to get people coming back to chinatown. >> the restaurant owner says that businesses have heard from sfpd police assuring them these crimes are being investigated and patrols will continue at the times when these crimes are most likely to happen. a san francisco

sheriff's cadet is accusing supervisor shamann walton a verbally and physically threatening him. now imari butler is calling on the supervisor to admit to what he's alleging now. he says it happened at a security checkpoint in city hall in walton was asked to remove his belt at a metal detector. >> it was the week an upright. so it was a lot of people, but you can actually hear a pin drop once he started and it felt like, you know, once he realized that everybody was watching, but he decided he wanted to put on a show and he looked at me point that the glass and said his words like you who look like me, that's always a problem. and then continue on to say that the process was summit where so. it was, i mean, isn't theirs. and it said, because, you know, he he has a platform, any for something better than that. >> we've asked supervisor walton for his response to the cadets comments and his office referred us to a statement that reads in part, quote, these incidents seek to vilify

me and my character. i would never expect the sheriff's department to provide an accurate account of what transpired between 2 black men. a sit in protest at parker elementary school turns violent with parents claiming school district security officers assaulted them. this is video that you're watching here reported thursday from the demonstration at parker elementary school in oakland. and you can see from the video there appeared to be a physical altercation between a person in the video and usd security. the school district says the person was trespassing, but demonstrators responded with this. >> there's nobody trespassing. only people, trespassing is usd right on this community. and they've been doing this for almost a 20 year period of closing schools and communities that need them the most. >> the demonstrations started on the last day of school back on may 25th. the group is protesting the school board's

decision to close the school school officials making that decision because of what they're calling a lack of funding. in the east bay. 18 in san leandro is recovering after being injured in a shooting. >> this happened near mckinley on the elementary school and san leandro high school. police say the girl was injured by a bullet fragment entering her foot. it's not known if the shooting was a robbery attempt at a local business or a targeted shooting. we know the shooter's left the scene before police could get there and the search continues this morning for suspects. in the north bay, the parents of a baby that died from fentanyl are now being charged with murder and child abuse. the photos that you're seeing here are from the couple's home. these were taken back in may when the child died. evan frost taken medicine. bernard face felony charges. police say bernard fell asleep in bed with her 15 month-old daughter. and that's when the child ingested fentanyl. police say they found the

drugs in the bed and the parents are expected to appear in court later this month. a 17 year-old boy is dead after a car crash involving the chp. it happened in vallejo. the chp says the teenager crashed just before 01:00am friday and officers say it happened after a high-speed chase. they say the driver refused an order to pull over. investigators say the boy was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck. his passenger, a 16 year-old girl suffered minor injuries. a south san francisco police officer is recovering this morning after being dragged by a car during a police to our rather a traffic stop. it happened on the 1000 block of san mateo avenue near sfo. police say while they were speaking with the driver, he took off hitting one of the officers and dragging him. police chased the car to san bruno where it crashed. officers arrested the driver. police say they found burglary tools in his car. the injured

officer is expected to be okay. happening today in the south bay. there's a new effort to get the youngest children vaccinated against covid-19 in san jose. the children's discovery museum is hosting a special clinic and offering free passes to families who get their kids, their shots. the clinic is open to anyone between the ages of 6 months and older. it starts at 9.30 this morning and runs to 12, 30 in the afternoon. today is day 2 of the outside lands music festival in golden gate park and check out the scene as the festival kicked off on friday, roughly 750,000 people expected to come together in san francisco for this three-day fest. >> and one fan came all the way from for the 4th year in a row. >> whether old to the music, the music always great. the food is even better.

democrats on capitol hill move forward with their latest plan to fight inflation. >> democratic leadership say they struck a deal on the inflation reduction act by adjusting some of the tax policies in the original bill to secure the vote of more moderate members of the party. despite pushback from republicans, president biden says the bill helps fight inflation while addressing climate change and reducing the national deficit by over 300 billion dollars. i spoke with california state senator alex padilla, who is a supporter of the bill. >> by making wealthiest corporations in america pay more of their fair share. we're going to cover these costs and reduce the federal deficit will which will ease

burning assist you county is now 30% contained. this fire started about a week ago burning nearly 60,000 acres. 4 people are dead and 87 homes destroyed. new uc davis research says kids exposed to wildfire smoke can experience inflammation in their blood stream and that can lead to more health problems. kron four's all spoke with the authors of the study. from 2017 to daily collection of blood samples taken from 100 healthy children. >> ages 9 to 11 in the sacramento area show exposure to air pollutants caused by wildfire smoke can have an immediate negative impact on the young body. they had reduced. >> cardiac autonomic regulation. so that's a marker of overall regulation of heart activity. phd candidate in a and associate professor doctor chameleon hostin, our authored the study out of the department of psychology at uc

unite. >> and talk us through the value of seeing diverse faces on the big screen and the impact that has on the next generation. >> isn't when you see as you're like, did he look like i you know, i'm we haven't had that growing up, especially when you talk about diverse asian communities. and that's why cause me really excited. i'm going to cisco time. a lot of filipino friends. yeah. i grew up in a filipino church channel faced by and they invited me to all the food and holiday parties. but i've never seen a celebrated like this and so important to have that. >> yes, and just any thoughts that, yeah, i what's special about this. this film where jo koy and it feels even supporting like shang-chi is that they are led by asian recent from usc show that over the past 10 years, there has been no meaningful increase in

asian leading representation about people. 4% of leads or co-leads or asian american. about 6% are speaking roles and so it's critically important. and when we do have films that are led by asian americans directed by asian american, we really have to be out there, support and is speaking from personal experience to its it almost. you know, when you see faces that. >> that you can connect to and relate to on the screen, whether it's television or in the movie theater. >> it almost feels like well, like that's an opportunity that something that i can do right. like from my own personal experience. like when i was growing up in the bay area in san jose, when i you know, i the only way we have a big way that i thought that a career television for myself as possible is what i saw. other asian american women on television. there were that many in area. there's more now. fortunately, i don't think that would have been possible as i would have seen that as a career choice for myself. if i hadn't seen that representation on the screen being, you know, the next jo koy's going come to one of our

bay area about 31% of them live in. when you consider low party lines. so that's 390,000 asian american pacific islanders. i live in low income which is completely different from the model minority of us all being successful. if you want to spend some time with me in the warrant out of town to community working visitation valley, where a lot of partners are. you see it, you'll see these community always interacting together and that's why it's important to kind of break that type of model minority and all the stereotypes. and that's why he's important us to bring these kids out here, too. and to show that, hey, it's ok, well, you're at is about what we can go and what we're going to be shown on the big screen as the same time. >> and organizations are both very involved in activism on behalf of the asian american community. what are some tangible steps that people can take today to help create a more welcoming and more inclusive environment. you know >> i think if you are in positions of power, it's

mentor the people who not people of color and myself growing up here and i was involved, entrepreneurship. i know mentors or asian american really sought me out. and i we have an ability now where there are more asian leaders like yourself in positions of visibility in power. and it's critically important that as hard is to reach out to our community are younger community, including especially comey who are out in chinatown, these poor neighborhood to don't have access to our our networks to get the support that the visibility that they need. >> as an yeah to me about community work is it takes a community to save the and so you have to be bush. and really understand what the problems are and how to relate with them. so far, all the people that want to be active now go get active, have tough conversations with other community members internally as well. you have to build real relationships with people is not a social media post. i like is not just knowing stat go out there and be part of that will change. you want to be. that's why we have like a

she's hoping to raise awareness of these issues and encourage others to speak up. >> my hope that we do get our resources with to get, you know, that rolls and, you know, people feel safe like in our neighborhood so that we can continue to get people coming back to chinatown. >> the restaurant owner says the businesses have heard from sfpd police assuring them these crimes are being investigated and patrols will continue in the hours when these crimes are most likely to happen. a san francisco sheriff's cadet is accusing san francisco supervisor shamann walton, a verbally and physically threatening him. now imari butler is calling on the supervisors to admit to what he allegedly did now, the mri says it happened at a security checkpoint in city hall when walton was apparently asked to remove his belt at a metal detector. watch. >> it was a week an upright. so it was a lot of people. but you can actually hear a pin drop once he started and it

one person and usd, a security person, a person now. now the school district says the person was trespassing, but demonstrators responded with this. >> there's nobody trespassing. only people, trespassing is usd. that's right. on this community. and they've been doing this for almost a 20 year period of closing schools and communities that need them the most. >> the demonstrations started on the last day of school back on may 25th. the group is protesting the school board's decision to close the school as school officials say they made the decision because of what they're calling a lack of funding. and the east bay 18 in san leandro is recovering after being injured in a shooting. this happened near mckinley elementary school in san leandro. high school. police say the girl was injured by a bullet fragment hitting her foot. it's not known if the shooting was a robbery attempt at a local business or a targeted shooting. the shooters left

the scene before police could get there and the search continues this morning for suspects. in the the parents of a baby that died from fentanyl are now charged with murder and child abuse. the photos that you're seeing here are from the couple's home. these were taken back in may when the child died. evan frost icun medicine, bernard face felony charges. police say bernard fell asleep in bed with her 15 month-old daughter. and that's when the child ingested the fentanyl. police say they found drugs in the bed. frost iq is scheduled to be in court later this month. no court date set yet for the parents. the 17 year-old a 17 year-old boy is dead after a car crash involving the chp. it happened in vallejo. the chp says teenager crash just before 01:00am friday. and police say it happened after a high-speed chase. they say the driver refused an order to pull over. investigators say the boy was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck. his

passenger, a 16 year-old girl suffered minor injuries. it's a south san francisco police officer is recovering this morning after being dragged by a car during a traffic stop. it happened on the 1000 block of san mateo avenue near sfo. police say while they were speaking with the driver, if he took off hitting one of the officers and dragging him, police chased the car. san bruno where it crashed. officers arrested the driver. police say they found burglary tools in his car. the injured officer is expected to be okay. happening today in the south bay. there's a new effort to get the youngest children vaccinated against covid-19 in san jose. the children's discovery museum is hosting a special clinic and offering free passes to families who get their kids, their shots. the clinic is open to anyone between the ages of 6 months and older. it starts at 9.30 this morning and runs to 12, 30 in the afternoon. it is day 2 of the

should parents keep in mind as they get their kids ready for the first day of school? >> well, it's not a requirement they should have. first and foremost in mind to have children is vaccinated as possible, which is if that means if there are over 12, they should have at least one booster. so that's the main that's that's the main message. get your kids vaccinated. the school districts are going to play at each one is going to do it differently in terms of masking and social distancing and things like that. i suspect we're not going to see will just background levels of infection, which with the omicron variants that we're seeing now, it's probably not the world's worst idea that yes, still be absenteeism. be a sickness among, you know, that they'll infection among the school staff could lead to substitute teaching in all things like that. but it's not going to be. i you don't anticipate that they're going to be lots of hospitalizations or severe disease in this younger population, not impossible. and the vaccines

to a great job credit that. so the first and foremost is to get vaccinated. >> and you also recommend, especially for parents with younger children that they send their kids to school, maybe with a little bottle of hand sanitizer and encourage some frequent hand washing. >> you know, that's not really going to make much difference for for covid might make a difference for a few other things. but not really for covid is really no a surface transmission for covid that we've seen. >> and how about for some of the students who are a bit older with the university students? sometimes they are finding themselves sitting in big lecture hall situations. lots of people in one not sure. exactly. i mean, the guidance for social distancing is probably going vary per university. but what sort of thing should they be keeping in mind as they head back to campus? >> but first and foremost, again, they should be vaccinated. there lots of other things you need to be vaccinated for it for college as well. like many caucus, for instance, meningitis shots. but i would also say that, you know, you can you know, you

can control your environment but putting a mascot. and if you're in a big lecture hall and it's completely packed you know, the people around and your to service with lots of people around you just put a mask on, you know that especially if you haven't been infected before and been infected recently. you know, it's just it's not something you want to get. and we're learning more and more about long covid in the risks are long covid and believe me, this is something to be avoided, not embraced. >> and let's talk a bit about monkeypox now. we already know few positive cases found in very young children. so, yeah, is this something that parents should be going out and getting their kids vaccinated for this point? >> absolutely not. absolutely. positively this is that this is in. this is almost entirely a sexually transmitted disease and almost entirely right now among men who have with men and transgender women. and that the chances of a child

being infected are practically 0 infections that did take place. we're in settings where somebody was infected in the household. and they had a prolonged contact with with a young child in household. so if you have a household member who's infected, that person should be isolated. the will should be covered. they should be, you know, separated from the rest of the household. but short of that, the chances of young children getting this at this point in time are 0. >> and, you know, given the low transmission rate among children. >> i'm still what are some symptoms that parents of young what is there anything that they should be looking out for? >> no, you're not going to get it. i mean, you know that this presents with a rash, ok? i and it looks like chicken pox. now nobody sees chickenpox anymore because we have a vaccine for it. but it's, you know, do you have a? >> fluid philpott's, jewels of different ages that eventually moved to cresting over. >> the typical lesion is, you

happened on friday. chp says there were 3 passengers on board and right after the car got off the san mateo bridge and veered across lanes of the highway and struck a big rig parked on the side of the road. the driver and one passenger died at the scene. the 3rd passengers now in the hospital. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. construction on a proposed didn't housing project in berkeley is halted for now. several groups filed a lawsuit claiming uc berkeley failed to come up with alternative locations for the construction project. demolition of the park came to a temporary and on friday after the court injunction was issued, protesters clashed with officers this week over the project and uc berkeley does say the construction would add more than 1100 affordable housing units. of course, opponents argue there are alternatives. >> one alternate site is over a block away earthquake on
