>> a look at the conditions that we have right now. lots of sunshine. the fog already taken care of all votes, going to sneak a little appearance tomorrow morning running through things for you very quickly. here is how it goes. as far as those temperatures are concerned. we're looking at most readings kind of in the mild 50's with still some 60's. hang on a little bit here, already at about 71. this is the best gets just about all weekend long because away we go give you a contrast, by the way, in some cases where more than a half a dozen degrees ahead of what we were from yesterday. again, that will be built on winds are out. actually interesting will be talking a little bit about that as well. but calm the single digits. we're not getting much help from the coast. and this is what we've been talking about. excessive heat warning, as you can see, that's well inland along the east bay shoreline. that's an advisory and also in the peninsula along the bay side. meanwhile, san francisco, you're technically not in any of the statements, but it will be plenty hot without the ac cooking. there. windows open in the fans rolling. here's a

look at the breakdown today. 82 by 11 by 2. we're talking 94 again. we've just begun. there's a lot more for tomorrow and monday will have more on that in just a bit, stephanie. all right. thanks very much, dave. >> and continuing our team coverage of this heat cities across the bay area are taking steps to help people stay cool. fortunately, a kron four's camila barco is live in santa rosa flores where the city is opening cooling centers this morning. camila, what can you tell us about it? >> well, stephanie, i'll tell you that the sun santa rose is going to be beaming all across california, actually, and it's going to be as hot as 90 degrees here in santa rosa says santa rosa is actually opening the finley community center this morning. 2 people who may want to cool off and get away from the hot weather today. they're opening up the community center today tomorrow and monday from 11:00am to 07:00pm. anyone can go inside. take a seat and cool off. you can even bring some books games or your

laptop. there is free wi-fi at the center, but just know that only service animals are allowed and they do ask you to limit what you bring to one toe back now today drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun. if you have a tip for you on this hot day, check on your relatives and neighbors. you don't try not do anything strenuous or any outside activity besides in the morning or later at night and also wear lightweight clothing. now today, if you are planning to stay inside, there is a flexor alert that goes. from 04:00pm to 09:00pm today. cal iso is asking everyone to conserve energy during those hours to avoid any power outages. but again, here in santa rosa, stephanie, the only community center is opening up at 11 today. it's going to be hot this entire long weekend. so you can come here today tomorrow or monday. if you need to cool off, i'll send it back to you thank goodness for that resource. thanks so much, camila for that live report.

>> a spare the air alert is also in effect due to the heat. all the caught air combined with car exhaust can create some pretty unhealthy levels of smog the bay area, air quality management district is urging people to please limit driving to reduce air pollution and to walk bike or take public transit and said instead, this is the 4th spare the air alert. the district has issued so far this year. and in response to this hot weather, the east bay regional park district is doing something they've never done before. they're shutting down dozens of parks this long holiday weekend, 40 parks will be closed starting tomorrow due to extreme fire. danger and many of those parks are next to neighborhoods. fire officials say another thing they're considering now is evacuation procedures. if a fire does break out. >> if fires to happen, our even start to fight the fires to get people out, which means we can't readily detect the fire right away. need to do rescue first. so.

>> by mitigating and minimizing the amount of people that are in our parks. that means that we can you go directly to fighting the fire with the precious little resources that we have. >> and the district is keeping many parks with water features and shoreline parks open during the heat wave. you can find a full list of park closures on our website. kron 4 dot com. red flag warnings are not in effect for us here in the bay area. but firefighters are gearing up for potential sparks to start up this weekend. and they say the last several months have not seen significant rainfall leaving the ground bone dry. plus, humidity levels are expected to stay low overnight. the city of walnut creek also closed all of its open space parks through the holiday weekend because of the high fire danger. the contra costa county fire protection district is act asking people to take extra precautions. take a look at your screen. there now. they advise not

operating machinery, like lawnmowers, which can accidently spark a fire. they're also asking people to remove any dead and dying vegetation from around your home. so make sure you have that defensible space created and finally, make sure you have a bag packed and ready to go with all your important documents and medication in it just in case of fire, does force evacuation orders to go into place? and the contra costa county fire protection district also asking residents to take extra care not to start a fire by accident. fire officials advising people to not use machinery or and to remove any dead and dying vegetation. as we just mentioned, there. let's go ahead and move to next story here because we did just cover that material. now the mill fire. let's let's give you an update the mill fire. rather. you can see some pretty big from that fire burning in siskiyou county right now. significant amount of damage, as you can see from that video playing on your screen. one

man even telling us that he saw that the fire could have started at an abandoned mill. >> side and we just saw the ways and it was like kindling. it went up and out and it went out that way. >> and then helicopters everywhere. >> the mill fire is one of 3 fires to burn in siskyou county in the last 2 months. and as this extreme heat continues, governor newsom is expanding his emergency declaration allowing the state to respond to dangerous conditions faster. he won this week. the worst is likely. still ahead, the demand on the electric grid thursday was the highest. it's been since 2017 and people are reminded to cut back on energy use, especially during the peak hours of 04:00pm to 09:00pm. >> electricity conservation is going to be essential and keeping the power flowing to california without interruption of california. consumers and businesses continue to pitch in. you can serve during those key hours

to the latest on the documents found at former president trump's florida estate. >> agents say they discovered top secret records in an office and storage room along with dozens of empty folders labeled classified agents also found more than 10,000 government records with no classification markings and this is according to a more detailed inventory of the seized material made public by the justice department yesterday. the inventory does not describe the content of the documents, but it does help to illustrate the extent to which classified information was stashed in boxes at trump's mar-a-lago home. this also makes clear the volume of an classified government documents in the former president's possession, even though those records were supposed to have been turned over to the national archives and records administration, a former president trump has said that he declassified all of those documents that were found at his florida estate.

the marine layer. we have. it's pretty much going to mix up pretty quickly tomorrow morning, though, greeting us with a little bit of that fog along the east bay shoreline. briefly, until again, the sun mix is that all out. looks like a little in the way. some cloud cover also up to around tahoe, which, by the way, on the nevada side, they're looking at a red flag warning. no statements like that. at least red flag warning wise in the home front future cast winds. we have a little bit of a breeze cooking this afternoon. providing may be some minor relief. but look at this tomorrow. you've got the thermal g-adients. they almost always drive some winds. and these tend to sometimes upgrade them a little bit higher than we're seeing in. this is basically a joke. nothing at all into the afternoon. so we're not going to get much relief from those winds. very still air swim, even in places you don't feel as hot. typically without those winds helping out a little bit. it's going to feel hotter. how about the moisture in the air with this is one thing kind of helping us out. now. the dew point values are not real real low so we don't want him to locals. that is a fire hazard. we don't how much

thanks very much, david. appreciate it. >> new this morning, police are investigating after a person was hit and killed by a car overnight in san jose. this happened on the 700 block of how your avenue the driver remained on scene to work with police. this is the 24th pedestrian killed in an accident so far this year. in the north, a newly released video from sandra fell. police is raising neighborhood concerns about the department's use of force policy. a warning that viewers might find this video hard to watch. this incident happened back on july 27th in the city's canal area. video shows a group of men approached by officers over an open container of beer. that situation, as you can see here quickly turned violent after officer shoved the man into the ground, appearing to break his nose. we spoke with the attorney representing the man seen in this video. >> we saw it was a terrible abuse of power. it never should have happened heriot.

they were aggressive. they were rude. they escalated the situation. >> now the police chief says this incident is being investigated and says both officers involved in this are on leave. a developing story we're following for you this morning. the chp says it now has a lead in the freeway shooting that killed a fremont boy last november. investigators released these photos of 2 suspects, cars. one is a late 2000 gray infiniti sedan. chp says the other appears to be a great nissan sedan. investigators believe both of these cars were involved in the shooting. that happened on i-80 near i 9.80, in november of last year. 23 month-old jasper. wu was struck and killed by a bullet while riding in a car with his parents. a reward is offered for information leading to an arrest. and a 12 year-old girl had to be

hospitalized after being shot in the leg during a reported road rage incident in pittsburgh. a suspect a suspect is now in custody. it happened along buchanan road near harbor street. a few blocks away from foothill elementary school. police say the girl's mother was driving with 3 children in the car when a man pulled alongside the car, pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot hitting the girl. the mother drove to a nearby shopping center and called for help. the girl is now in stable condition this morning. police are still working to figure out what led up to this shooting. and police have several suspects in custody for a rolex robbery in foster city kron four's haaziq madyun explains how officers use of license plate reader technology to make the arrests. so this is a picture of what we saw. >> when we did a search for the white chevy tahoe and this is what you get. this is what the cameras will do. i mean,

they're super clear pasta cities, license plate reader camera technology led police investigators to the vehicle allegedly used in wednesday's rolex watch strong armed robbery of an 85 year-old man. i mean, this an elderly gentleman that was literally attacked. >> plus, the city police chief tracy says the 3 suspects followed the victim home from costco. he was initially confronted. they're trying to do some sort of jewelry rooms where they put on victorian takeoff. realtor worry. >> he didn't allow that to happen. and when costco, when he came back out here, they followed him home to people jumped out of a white chevy tahoe. one person held him while the other person. literally ripped his rolex watch off his wrist. >> while the suspects were making their escape. one of foster's city's 20 flock technology license plate readers recorded the alleged vehicle used in the crime.

that plate was then in turn into a nationwide flock safety hot list. 24 hours later, that same license plate reader technology spotted the vehicle engulfed california officers there made the stop and arrested 3 the 3 people that were arrested were alexandra. >> georgie, 18 years old. no address. cao, make less to 22 years old out of spring hill, florida and robert mccleskey to 30 years old out of sacramento. chief tracy of lives says since the license plate readers were installed in november 2021, the cameras have played a key role in solving over 25 crimes. and she says she believes that this case would still be open without the technology 100%. this case goes unsolved unless they do it again somewhere we can connect them. >> and foster city has kron. 4 news. >> still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news. a big win for environmental activists working to protect access to safe drinking water. details

82 by 11 by to talk in 94 and again, the temperatures get warmer. also, interesting little surprise coming into next weekend. all given all that and a bit, stephanie, thanks very much. >> friday marked the anniversary of the 2017 labor day heat wave that brought a 106 degree day to san francisco as the hottest recorded temperature in the city's history. today, a heat mapping project is underway to see how extreme weather impacts different parts of the city check this out. the sensors attached to cars, track, heat and humidity data on friday volunteers drove 12 different routes across san francisco at various parts of the day. extreme heat events have shown to disproportionately impact vulnerable communities, including those in the tenderloin in chinatown where the population may be more packed together and older. time to time. for example, a large number of surfaces that ups or pete coupled with the fact that there's a lack of

tree cover and shame. if you don't have the ability. >> to map the communities that are most in need to map where they need the resources the most, then that you'll have widespread suffering as a the data collected will help the city understand how factors like green space. >> tree cover pavement and tall buildings can create heat islands. >> those are areas that can trap heat and prevent air flow. the health department and other city agencies will examine that data once it becomes available to help the city decide where to invest. in cooling centers or where to plant more trees. a bay area assisted living facility says another resident in its care has died after ingesting something kron four's. rob nesbitt spoke with the residents, son. >> it was around midnight on august 24th when doctor kerry can noon was woken up by a phone call from this atria walnut creek assisted living facility. staff alerting him that his dad constantine can noon had to be taken to the

hospital. and that's obviously surprise. i said, why is that? he said because he drank some. >> cleaning fluid doctor can noon rushed to john muir medical center where he says his 94 year-old father was in distress with burns inside his mouth early that same morning, doctor can went to a trip to see what the cleaning fluid was identified to work with and said it was an alkaline agent unfortunately a cause is pretty it can cause pretty severe injury. the incident happening just 3 days before gertrude maxwell's death. the 93 year-old was served dishwashing liquid at the atria park senior living facility in san mateo noon passed away on wednesday. his son frustrated with how the story from a tree has changed over time. essentially told me that. didn't drink. the substance the problem was is he is p. >> flaming hot cheetos. these kind of injuries that might get some perch in no way,

year-old girl. they say she was walking to stanley middle school on monroe avenue around 8. this yesterday morning or rather on this incident did happen sometime this week. shoe was dropped off by a parent she told police a man asked her if she was alone and then grabbed her shoulder. she managed to get away and police were notified. petaluma mother has been identified after her death went unreported for over a year. her daughter lived at home reportedly with her corpse. the body has been identified as 80 year-old burgett grant of petaluma. last week officers entered the house on windsor drive and guns body on a couch in the living room. her daughter told police that on grant died in april of last year and she had not left the house since the beginning of the pandemic. police are currently conducting a suspicious death investigation to find out if there was any foul play or neglect of care. san jose police say they tracked down a

man wanted in connection to a deadly shooting at the u.s. mexico border. this happened around 10, 30 thursday night near william street and 24th near the walmart super center. a woman and man were shot. the woman died on scene less than 24 hours later. and with the help of chp investigators arrested the suspect near the border close to tijuana as he was allegedly trying to leave the u.s. san jose police shared this message. we have had this year suspects flee. >> to mexico, we have had a lot of success working with mexican authorities as well as the u.s. marshals and getting cooperation and bringing the suspects back something. that's another message you can run. we will find you. we will bring it back. >> and police are investigating the relationship between the victims and the suspect. their names will be released later this week. >> and the so-called rainbow fentanyl, we've been warning you about is apparently now in

the bay area. take a look at this. >> a berkeley police found more than a pound of the brightly colored drug during a traffic stop thursday night last month. the nationwide alert was issued by authorities for this drug. and one of the concerns here is that these bright colors could entice children to try it. rainbow fentanyl has also been found in placer county and southern oregon near the california border. holiday travel season in full swing, a bay area airports according to hopper and online travel site. domestic travel is up 20% compared to 2019 in the bay area. air travel is nearing pre-pandemic levels. the lines were long at san jose international airport. as you can see there around 55,000, passengers are expected to pass through over the three-day holiday weekend. and oakland international airport officials say has been the busiest so the since 2019. >> we've got good operations out here. weather is cooperating so far. we're at

santa's not leaving. your local election headquarters and people in san francisco who are not u.s. citizens. >> will be allowed to vote in school board elections come november. a proposition that passed in 2016 made that possible. but then a legal challenge followed a san francisco superior court judge ruled the law unconstitutional and issued an injunction. the city appealed and the court of appeals issued a stay on that injunction. and because this case won't be heard until after the election, it means that non citizens in san francisco can vote in the school board elections. oakland voters will decide whether to approve a similar measure in november.

be closed starting tomorrow due to extreme fire. danger. and many of those parks are next to neighborhoods. fire officials say another thing they are considering now is evacuation procedures. if a fire does break out. >> if fires to happen, our first responsibility before we even start to fight the fires to get people out, which means we can't readily detect the fire right away. need to do rescue first. so. >> by mitigating and minimizing the amount of people that are in our parks. that means that we can you go directly to fighting the fire with the precious little resources that we have. >> the district is keeping many parks with water features open during the heat wave. and you can find a full list of the parks that will be closed on our website. kron 4 dot com. red flag warnings are not in effect for us here in the bay area. but firefighters are gearing up for potential fires this weekend. they say the last several months have not seen significant rainfall leaving the ground bone dry.

plus, humidity levels are expected to stay low overnight. the city of walnut creek also closed all of its open space parks for the holiday weekend because of that high fire danger. the contra costa county fire protection district is asking people to please take extra precautions. take a good look at that list on your screen right now. and they're advising people not operate machinery like lawnmowers, which can accidently spark a fire. they're also asking people to remove any dead and dying vegetation from around your home. create that defensible space. and finally, make sure you have a go bag packed and ready to go in. case of fire. does force evacuation orders to go into place? as the extreme heat continues. governor newsom expanding his emergency declaration allowing the state to respond. dangerous conditions faster. he won this week. the worst is likely. still ahead, the demand on the electric grid thursday was the highest. it's been since 2017.

spoke with the attorney representing the man seen in this video. >> we saw it was a terrible abuse of power. it never should have happened heriot. they were aggressive. they were rude. they escalated the situation. >> the police chief says the incident is being investigated and says both officers involved and seen in this video are on leave. a developing story we're following this morning. the chp says it now has a lead in the freeway shooting that killed a fremont boy last november. investigators released a picture of these 2 suspects. cars. one, as you can see, here is a late 2000 gray infiniti sedan. chp says the other appears to be a gray nissan sedan. investigators believe both cars were involved in the shooting. that happened on i-80 near i-90, 80 in november last year. 23 month-old jasper. wu was struck and killed by a bullet while riding in the car with

his parents. a reward is offered for information leading to an arrest. a 12 year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the leg during a reported road rage incident in pittsburgh. a suspect is now in custody. this happening along buchanan road near harbor street. if you walks away from foothill elementary school. police say the girl's mother was driving with 3 children in the car when a man pulled alongside her, pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot, hitting the young girl. the mother drove to a nearby shopping center and called for help. the girl is in stable condition this morning. and police are still working to figure out what led up to this shooting. police now have several suspects in custody for a rolex robbery in foster city kron four's as he can do, explains how officers use license plate reader technology to make the arrests. >> so this is a picture of

what we saw when we did a search for the white chevy tahoe and this is what you get. this is what the cameras will do. i mean, they're super clear foster city's license plate reader camera technology led police investigators to the vehicle allegedly used in wednesday's rolex watch strong armed robbery of an 85 year-old man. i mean, this an elderly gentleman that was literally attacked. >> plus, the city police chief tracy says the 3 suspects followed the victim home from costco. he was initially confronted there. they tried to do some sort of jewelry rooms where they put on jury and takeoff. realtor worry. >> he didn't allow that to happen and wanted to costco. and when it came back out here, they followed him home to people jumped out of a white chevy tahoe. one person held him while the other person. literally ripped his rolex watch off his wrist. >> while the suspects were making their escape. one of

foster city's 20 flock technology license plate readers recoided the alleged vehicle used in the crime. that plate was then in turn into a nationwide flock safety hot list. 24 hours later, that same license plate reader technology spotted the vehicle engulfed california officers there made the stop and arrested 3 the 3 people that were arrested were alexandra. >> georgie, 18 years old. no address. cao, make less to 22 years old out of spring hill, florida and a quest to 30 years old out of sacramento. chief tracy of lives says since the license plate readers were installed in november 2021, the cameras have played a key role in solving over 25 crimes. and she says she believes that this case would still be open without the technology 100%. this case goes unsolved unless they do it again somewhere we can connect them.

period bookended by the memorial and labor day. weekends. the combination of alcohol parties and extreme heat can be a recipe for disaster. kron four's philippe djegal reports that emergency rooms are bracing for a busy few days. >> first responders and emergency departments across our state right now are concerned about this weekend and for good reason, although the heat is forcing some people indoors, it's also pushing a lot of us outside on the hiking trails in the water and that rings. and on labor day weekend, those activities are often combined with consuming alcohol. >> which leads to increased visits to emergency. >> do see in general a 25% increase in the number of patients that we will see it. as this weekend. registered nurse tammy green manages the emergency department at dignity health's dominican hospital in santa cruz. we prepare by staffing up. they make sure that we have all

ingesting something and kron four's. rob nesbitt spoke with the resident son. >> it was around midnight on august 24th when doctor kerry can noon was woken up by a phone call from this atria walnut creek assisted living facility. staff alerting him that his dad constantine can noon had to be taken to. the hospital obviously surprise. i said, why is that? he said because he drank some. >> cleaning fluid doctor. can noon rushed to john muir medical center where he says his 94 year-old father was in distress with burns inside his mouth early that same morning doctor went to a trip to see what the cleaning fluid was identified to work with and said it was an alkaline agent unfortunately causes pretty it can cause pretty severe injury. the incident happening just 3 days before gertrude maxwell's death. the 93 year-old was served dishwashing liquid at the atria park senior living facility in san mateo noon passed away on wednesday. his son frustrated with how the

like to eat, run around and and have fun. what should people know about rabbits before they take one in side of the home. the good thing to know when you come to us for adoption on, we try to do a really good job as far as matching personalities with the household or their children in the household. you have other pets we try to educate as far as the set up. so you see what what we have here is a good set up for a bunny. there's enough room for them move around, stand up and a periscope. what we call it. they're spayed and neutered. and so their litter box trained. okay, very good. so. >> all of when people come to adopt from eu rescue. the rabbits are already fixed. >> yes, unless their they have to be a certain age, but friday or fix. but typically

they're all fixed. spayed and neutered before they are adopted out. and that is such an important part of of the process because we want to be able to control and they maintain the population writes absolute more of them don't end up back in the shelter. >> you know, those things that people need to do to prepare their homes before they take a rabbit in. yes, i i would say educating on yourselves about the care of the bunny indoor fixed. a neutered have a life span of 8 to 12 because they're protected from the elements and protected from predators. and i'm having a nice area for them to be in people can interact with them. they're very social animals. you want an area that they can run around in as well. is it ok to bring them into a home with, say other pets like cats

air alert. the district has issued this year. and in response to the hot weather, the east bay regional park district is doing something they've never done before. they're shutting down dozens of parks this long holiday weekend, 40 parks will be closed starting tomorrow due to extreme fire danger and many of those parks are next to neighborhoods. fire officials say another thing they have to consider is evacuation procedures. if a fire does break out >> if fires do happen, our first responsibility before we even start to fight the fires to get people out, which means we can't readily detect the fire right away. need to do rescue first. so. >> by mitigating and will and minimizing the amount of people that are in our parks. that means that we can you go directly to fighting the fire with the precious little resources that we have. >> the district is keeping many of its many parks open. the ones that do have water features that is during this heat wave, you can find a full list of park closures on our website. kron 4 dot com. and

red flag warnings are not in effect for us here in the bay area. but firefighters are gearing up for potential fires this weekend. they say the last several months have not seen significant rainfall leaving the ground bone dry. plus, humidity levels are expected to stay pretty low overnight. the city of well, walnut creek also closed all of its open space parks through the holiday weekend because of the high fire danger. the contra costa county fire protection district is asking people to please take extra precautions. take a good look at your screen there. they're advising to the people please not operate machinery like lawnmowers which can accidently spark a fire. officials also asking people to remove any dead and dying vegetation from around homes. want to make sure you have that defensible space prepared and finally, make sure you have a go bag packed and ready to go in. case of fire. does force evacuation orders to go into place? meantime, more than 7,000 people have evacuated because of the mill

fire burning in siskiyou county near the oregon border. and that fire is now close to 4,000 acres. you can see it smoldering on your screen there, setting up a lot of smoke. this is currently 0% contained. it sparked yesterday afternoon and this is what is left of one neighborhood in the town of weed. this fire leaving at least several people injured. it also burned entire homes to the ground. we are working to get an exact count of the structural damage. but as you just saw, there was a firefighter hosing down what was left of the house. governor gavin newsome declaring a state of emergency to help support the response effort here. and one man says that he saw the fire start at an abandoned mill. >> and we came outside and we just saw the ways and it was like him away. it went up and out and when didn't out that way. and then helicopters everywhere. >> scary moments for people living there. the mill fire is

the world today. she's the ceo of a 4.7 billion dollar company. ancestry dot com joins me live now to share her lessons learned and advice from her new book. take back your power. deborah, thank you so much for joining us live this morning. >> thank you so much for inviting me. >> just to get right into it, your book focuses on this idea of power, right? how to harness it, how to get it back because of this power imbalance that you've personally observed in your own career in tech. so walk us through some of the common challenges that women are up against in the workplace. >> well, there's so many small things in the u.s. are actually even not. the reality is, for example, you know, for every 100 men to promote its management, you know, only 86 women are and so been are already dropping off a little bit at the beginning of the run. but there are other stats suggest that there are 4 candidates in the pool and a woman is moving one of the candidates 0 probability of getting a job and say, you know, these are small things that you're seeing and no

individual woman that actually understand or see it herself. yeah, they're almost like invisible barriers, right? so can you walk us through maybe some own examples from your own career where you might have experienced these types of challenges. you know, early on in my career, i really struggled with learning to speak up and is a woman you need to take up space enough so people can hear you do things that was not actually warm, spoken. and i really felt like that. hold me back. and it took me a long time to get to iran today by learning to speak up and wanting to ask. and what are some ways that people can learn to almost overcome >> overcome that challenge of of learning how to speak up and advocate for ourselves. well, part of it is having amazing allies. you know, having someone at your site, a manager who's and then to our sponsor. >> having a team that support you have the circle. i talk a little bit about that blunt. but, you know, having strong allies that is a woman's best and most powerful tool.

>> and that, you know, speaking of allies, they are important. but what happens if somebody is looking around, they're like, oh, there's nothing there. there's nobody i really feel like i can connect what could really consider a mentor. hear what what's your recommendation in that case? >> the swear. i actually mentor a number of women and they just reach out to me. they said i'm the only woman of my company in products i would love to be mentors are supported. i, you know, coached 1008 over the last 8 years and try help him connect them with different folks. i think sometimes the first step is to learn to ask if you're not hearing know all the time, you're probably not asking enough and >> and you know what you think that, you know, obviously there's a lot that the individual can do to learn how to advocate for themselves. but the same time when you think companies can do to create a more supportive workplace for women and for marginalized groups. >> i think the biggest thing is to know the statistics know the challenges that and underrepresented groups are facing and really look at your process ease. one thing i talk

about was how they were several in the 19th last to get on the 4.30, bus. they can go home to pick up their kids and they worry that affected their career. but at the same time, it was the only accommodation the baby we needed to make. and they were incredible plays. so we moved our happy hours, moved meetings and that after 4.30, we wouldn't have any meetings. this is a small bay where this was really important to a small group of people. and yet just really having that flexibility was really important to and something that i also like to get your thoughts on you know, the the cultural aspect. all this to right. there's this video that's been trending on social media. it says shows young asian american man. and he asked the question, does he really need to be less asian to succeed in america? >> right. because the come in idea that many asian-americans faces, you know, we're taught from a young age, just kind of keep our heads down, work really hard and it will be recognized for that. but often in western culture, it can really be about. speaking up your point from from earlier. so, you know, you know it

right you know how much of our cultural identities, i suppose whether your asian or black or hispanic, so on and so forth. do we need to compromise or is it more about adapting? >> i think if we call of assimilation of compromising, we're definitely not going to make the right choices. instead, i think it's choosing what you adapt its choosing and being intentional about what you change so that, you know, you're honoring who you are and your culture. and at the same time able to thrive in the workplace where there are certain things that you noticed as you are building your own career where you notice that of this may have been something that i was taught when i was raised >> i was taught a growing up that i might have to almost adapter overcome in order to achieve my goals in the professional setting. >> i think, you know, my parents put your head down, get the work done if people recognize it. that is not how it works in the workplace.

really, you know, because the independence of our work, most people realize what you're doing and a td bases to being able to kind of tell your story, have a narrative really finding your voice to speak up and share about what you're working on. that is such an incredible skill that my parents would never us. lots to tell me. >> and have you because it it was those skills of working hard that serve them when they came to the united states. right. but none is not necessarily something that would help this next generation. 68. and and in today's sort of modern workplace environment, you know, of the last thing i do want to ask you about is your plans for ancestry. >> you may know of the you know, who do you think you are on the big fan of that you know by celebrities and then they, you know, they go on ancestry and they can track their where they came from, which is just incredible. but you yeah, my personal experience from going on that website on your web site several years back was that it was so hard for me to track my own family history, right? so do you have any plans you

recorded temperature in city history. well, today a heat mapping project is underway to see how extreme weather impacts different parts of our city. the sensors attached to cars, track, heat and humidity data friday volunteers drove 12 different routes across san francisco at various parts of the day to gather that data. extreme heat events have shown to disproportionately impact vulnerable communities, including the tenderloin in chinatown where the population may be more packed together and older. >> time to time, for example, a large number of surfaces that ups or pete coupled with the fact that there's a lack of tree cover and shame. if you don't have the ability to map the communities that are most in need to map where they need the resources the most. then that you'll how widespread suffering as a result. >> the data collected will help the city. understand how factors like green space tree cover payment and tall buildings can create so-called heat islands. those are areas that can trap heat and prevent

air flow. the health department and other city agencies will examine the data once it's all collected, unavailable, it will help the city decide where to invest in cooling centers or where to plant more trees. and new this morning, police are investigating after a person is hit and killed by a car overnight in san jose. this happening on the 700 block of how your avenue the driver remained on scene to work with police. this is the 24th pedestrian killed in an accident so far this year. in the north, a newly released video from sandra fell. police is raising some neighborhood concerns about the department's use of force policy. a warning that viewers might find this video hard to watch. this happened back on july 27th in the city's can now area. the video showing a group of men approached by officers over an open container of beer. the situation puts quickly escalating after the officers appear to show the man into the ground breaking his nose. we spoke with the attorney representing the man seen in this video.

arrest or rather a reward is offered for any information leading to an arrest. a 12 year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the leg during a reported road rage incident in pittsburgh. a suspect is now in custody. it happened along buchanan road near harbor street, a few blocks away from foothill elementary school. police say the girl's mother was driving with 3 kids in the car when a man pulled alongside pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot, hitting the young girl. the mother drove to a nearby shopping center and called for help. the girl is in stable condition this morning. police are still working to figure out what led up to this shooting. and the bay area assisted living facility says another resident in its care has died after ingesting something kron four's. rob nesbitt spoke with the resident son. >> it was around midnight on august 24th when doctor kerry can noon was woken up by a phone call from this atria walnut creek assisted living facility. staff alerting him
