>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thanks so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. >> i'm stephanie lin. it is saturday september, the 10th. covering a lot for you this morning. let's start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning, dave. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. boy, some really has come our way at least temperature wise going on. got those numbers greatly reduced from where they were before. let's go and check it out. >> here in terms of a lot of fog that we have this that marine layer is coming back as well. and that's the start things off. but that will mix out as we get to around the noon hour in going to variable

cloudy story for much of the day for today. so it's a little bit of what may be what we're used to, but haven't. the cloud cover, though. the fog that we're talking about is covering up the east bay shoreline for the most part, as you will notice. here's the cloud cover that we're also efforting as well. it's really due to a tropical system in southern california. how often do we say that very often? it's almost once in a lifetime type thing where it was actually tropical when it struck san diego number actually getting landfall, though, 60's going on for those temperatures. 65 san jose. 59 for san francisco for comparison's we're pretty close to where we were from yesterday, but we're not going to be as warm because of this cloud cover and because of the different weather pattern that's in place. bit of a northwest wind to the checking out as well. so let's get more of a cloudy by us on this may be off to the east bay, the to 76 by 11 by 2 at eighty-four. and coming up a little bit here, kind of walk you through what you can expect for this weekend because little bit warmer for tomorrow. stephanie.

in san carlos. deputies with the san mateo county sheriff's office arrested her boyfriend. 33 year-old jose, some not all that data as the primary suspect for her murder. i didn't day one. he's been nothing but rubble since that they came in their life. biden castro says jose still out on data was the father of one of korean as 2 small children. >> when she got pregnant by him. >> my heart dropped on friday. investigators with the san mateo county sheriff's office say they recovered what they believe is the weapon. a stabbing instrument used to kill karina castro. her next door neighbor's says that he was at home at the time she something like that. make see n- >> whenever she something like that before, i believe god. but things happen like >> after the blood was washed away. the grieving father returned the flowers and candles marking the location where his daughter died have even been begin to process. what justice would be for your daughter in this case.

>> i don't feel he should continue breathing. i think the death penalty would be perfect for him. a representative with the san mateo county district attorney's office told me to expect more information about to possibly being arraigned in connection to this homicide on monday. >> and san carlos has a kron. 4 news. >> in the east bay, new details in the murder of a married couple in dublin. the primary suspect, a deputy with the alameda county sheriff's office. and we heard from the suspect's father who says his son, devon williams junior picture there was dating one of the victims. 42 year-old maria tran, her husband, 58 year-old benison trend was 58 year-old suntran. williams is accused of shooting and killing the couple inside of their home after he left work from the santa rita county jail tuesday night. williams then fled to call lingo where he surrendered to officers. he's now behind bars, charged with 2 counts of murder.

police arrested a suspect in connection to a stabbing death. the attack happened outside the 24th street mission. bart station in san francisco. police say surveillance video from august. 28 showed 42 year-old richard visor arguing with the victim then stabbing him. the man then collapsed on the platform. our police work with the san francisco police department to identify the suspect. and coming up in about 20 minutes here on the kron 4 morning news. more money being allocated to address the monkeypox virus. the plan from lawmakers to stop the spread as the case count continues to decline. >> and after the break, the work underway by state agencies to make more fresh water available as the drought water available as the drought continues. water available as the drought continues. milk-bone dipped. a treat so tasty, everyone will want to be a dog.

impacts of climate change drought that salty groundwater and with investments of this we can actually help those communities. cleaning your salty groundwater, making those communities resilient. >> critics argue that desalination is too expensive and uses too much energy. but supporters say it's t-me for the state to get behind the approach. >> all right. some cooler temperatures we're dealing with today. unfortunately, lot of cloud cover going on even into the afternoon as we see inland highs only into the 80's, although it looks good as we head on to next week. we'll have details in the forecast. kron 4 morning news.

it's still illegal to bet here in california. prop 27 changes the game. 27 legalizes online sports betting california adults 21 and over. meaning you will finally be able to get in on the action legally. so remember to vote yes on prop 27. it's a win for sports fans. >> welcome back. taking a live look outside. well at a very foggy san francisco this morning, though, that fog covering up the camera there. dave spahr is in the weather center now with a look at our forecast and how long can we expect to karl the fog to stick well, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. so we have the fog. that's that lower marine layer kind of moisture. we like that because that's, you know. >> and it's very cold. it's a far jic. it doesn't, you know, produce like a lot of the lightning or deny that above some of that leftover tropical moisture from k down in socal. >> now that can be problematic when you get that excited and

everything you can sometimes spark off those strikes of lightning which is not impossible over the next 48 hours. but we just have 2 different kind of odd types of moisture playing out at the same time. so we get the cooling would like that part, right? we have a lot of cloud cover. once we take care of this fog as we get into the afternoon hours, getting back down to southern california is now extra tropical system. but all the moisture is still there. it doesn't magically disappear as the tropical system to kay's. there's the rain still continuing in southern california. the system really never made landfall to heading back out to sea. but the moisture plume still continues up towards the north into central california central coast. even up to the mountains. it looks like particularly for today. the impact from our vantage point may actually be delayed is into sunday, which will see ok for today. we'll call kind of variable clouds. looks like it opens up a little bit of the east bay. there's some of those showers kind of cooking off towards the mountains and towards our south. overnight. some of the sprinkles may make it into the peninsula as we

get into your sunday, we open up the skies a little bit as you will notice. so kind of like today that variable cloudy scenario can vary by geography and by time that adds energy to the atmosphere. sometimes with that mid-level tropical moisture can spark off a little isolated thunder shower. there you see in the mountains, some rain still lingering into sunday and as early as in the monday morning, we still may have some cloud cover left over as we start to clear out and dry out a bit into a cooler scenario to midweek. so what's happening at the surface there? you're on shore winds. they're also somewhat unfamiliar from last week. we like the direction, as you can see, well in the teens and 20's repeat, it looks like in the sunday. so the surface we're getting that cooler marine layer being brought in with daytime heating, putting it all together. considerable clouds today, mild. that includes some morning fog 80's inland low 70's for the bay tomorrow, variable clouds still there. we're going to call the sprinkles a possibility. can, you know, ruled out and inland warming with a few 90's returning.

that's a clear patch of the showed you there for tomorrow. then for next week, it's sunny early in the week. cooling into near 80 or so for highs in places that we're looking at. almost one 10 from last week. so a big change in terms of the forecast is going to be a little flavor of fall as well. 72 san francisco, mostly cloudy. 74 going on for oakland, variable clouds, a little pleasant compared to how hot it's been. 81. meanwhile for san jose and check out this map there, we had to use different bank and crayons to make this mid 80's for the far east bay and up to the north bay. plenty of 70's course. that's the 4 zone forecast coming up in just a bit. stephanie. >> thanks very much. date now to our monkeypox coverage, los angeles county health officials are investigating the death of a resident diagnosed with m-pox. it will be an autopsy to determine whether the virus was the cause of death. death and severe illness are still rare in the global outbreak. this is the second death in the u.s. where m-pox may be a factor. and the state approved millions of dollars in funding

to stop the spread of m-pox assembly member. phil ting making the announcement just yesterday. kron four's rob nesbitt has more on how this money could help. >> the numbers are optimistic for several reasons. first off, san francisco has had a daily case report of 0 new cases several days the last week. still the money promised and governor newsom signed budget will help prevent the case count from going up in the future. for months, health officials sounded the alarm on a lack of m-pox funding and resources. on friday assembly member phil ting announce how much california has allocated to stop the spread of 41.5. >> millionidollars of emergency funding. to help local jurisdictions and community groups in particular combat. the mpx outbreak. the update happening as a cupboard hospital in san francisco. >> but the assembly member got a tour of where more than 15,000 vaccines have been administered. the hospital ceo doctor susan air lick leading both the tor and the hospitals fight against the disease. this new funding will very

much help in our efforts to fight the spread of m-pox with increased access to treatment. >> testing and vaccinations for most affected communities. california continues to be at the center of the m-pox outbreak with more than 4,000 reported cases, roughly 20% of the nation's total. >> san francisco has the second highest number of cases in the state has 763 ceo of the san francisco aids foundation. doctor tyler trim your says the vaccination waitlist that's trucked has gone down from 10,000 to around 3,000. >> access to treatments such as t-poxx has also improved. we have been able to reduce several of the barriers that were originally in place. i think. >> for a long time we heard about stacks of pa erwork hours per patient. and many of those things have been reduced in the burden. according to assembly member, ting around, 25 million dollars will go to the california department of public health. >> and more than 15 million dollars will be allocated for county health departments and community-based groups. reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> the governor of new york this week declaring a state of

emergency over polio. the cdc analyzed wastewater and found the virus in 5 counties. the polio vaccination rate alarmingly low in some new york counties to 60% in rockland and 58% in orange. medical experts say polio spreads between people when the virus enters of mouth and can spread unnoticed because most infected people do not show symptoms. we spoke with local doctors who shared their concerns about this outbreak. >> people today, parents have never seen and so what's to worry about? well, i can tell you what's to worry about because it was a horrible problem until we have these vaccines. we don't want to see these diseases again. we thought they were gone and it's >> tragedy to see diseases come back that are completely avoidable. >> doctors say children and adults who are not vaccinated should get immunized immediately. they say if you are immunized against polio, don't worry. you are protected and will not be infected. in

national news, a federal judge dismissed donald trump's russia probe lawsuit against hillary clinton and former fbi officials. the suit claimed that clinton along with former fbi chief james comey and others conspired to make up the investigation into whether trump's 2016 campaign coordinated with russia. the federal judge in florida said the lawsuit seems like an attempt to settle scores and grievances instead of trying to correct a wrong trump's lawyers saying the former president will appeal this ruling. secretary of transportation pete buttigieg tour bay area, public transit systems friday catching a ride on ac transit in oakland with congresswoman barbara lee yesterday. taking a look at areas of the city set to be improved with a federal grant. oakland got 14.5 million dollars last year from the infrastructure bill. it will be used to improve 7th street broadway and martin luther king junior way and restore public access to the waterfront. buttigieg arrived

>> as the bay area gets out of a record-breaking heat wave. lots of us are looking forward to heading outside for some cooler weather kron four's gayle ong spent some time in downtown pleasanton, speaking with people about their weekend plans. >> after back-to-back days of excessive heat, outdoor reservations and pairings wine bar and restaurant in pleasanton are starting to come back. so this cold is coming recently cause like like last few days, it's been really, really high. >> not like now starting feel like we're not just little bit just a little bit. friday marks the start of a cool down from the relentless heat wave. it's like gore of collapse. he decided to come out to enjoy evening out with family. the is getting better. and that is definitely one of the factors for us to come down to don from pleasant. and temperatures in downtown pleasanton were in the triple digits even after 05:00pm.

what's left of that from k in southern california. never really made landfall. but all that moisture as you can see, producing rain in southern california and now bubbling up to central california. and we're along the stop along the way here. it probably won't get the deeper moisture won't get in here to the overnight. and that's when the atmosphere has the least amount of energy in it. so we're not expecting really much in the way of any lightning strikes out of this. but we can't rule out maybe a little sprinkle or 2 happening. 60's cover most of the east bay. 58 going on for napa. we have 59 for novato 60. meanwhile for san francisco at the ballpark, the oakland a's do battle against the white sox. again. first pitch 107, temps will hover around 70 or so. we'll call it kind of variable clouds. little looks like the east bay will open up a little bit for the afternoon winds west, less than 10. the breakdown today. we've got 76 going on by 11 by 2 at 84. it's a big time improvement coming up a little bit. we'll take a look at that long-range forecast and your 4 zone for your saturday. stephanie, thanks very much. dave.

>> breaking news overnight. king charles, the 3rd now officially proclaimed the king of britain, a massive ceremony unfolded in the overnight hours. and we're looking live now at buckingham palace where thousands of people are continuing to pay their respects to the queen since news of her death. again taking another live look at buckingham palace right now. can see all those people gathered out there. i'm laying out flowers, sharing messages of condolences. a kron four's. justin campbell is live for us in london this morning. and just and we understand you are there with the new king arrived at buckingham palace. >> yeah, that's right, stephanie. right now i'm actually standing off of the mall it this road right behind me where you see all of these people that are behind me leads to buckingham palace. if you look at this video that put up on your screen, that will rule q 2 earlier today. the chance for so many people here to see king charles

arriving here at buckingham palace along with the queen. that was a moment that you heard so many people cheering so many people excited to that moment. and i actually got the chance to talk to people about it. but you get to hear what they we also spent some today outside of buckingham palace where were rolled you. you look at this video, you can see so many people putting flowers outside in green park. that park is right outside of buckingham palace in honor of her late majesty queen elizabeth. now you read some of those cards that are outside by the trees. all of the flowers that you're looking at that you see it really shows the impact that the queen had on people not just here in the uk, but also across the very impactful. but take a listen to what some of the people said that i spoke to. want to come up, has to pay our is once in lifetime. he's going to happen >> it's really wanted to pass specs to. queen and the royal

>> it's been a sad moment, but at the same time, also exciting from what i'm hearing for most people. they're telling me they want charles to carry on his mother's legacy. they want him to change a few things, but they also said this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that due to the succession that they most likely will not see a woman queen for a long time to come. so this is a moment that they really want to pay tribute to her. and it's something to them that also for their kids, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. but there's a lot of excitement of what is to come. stephanie. >> all right. justin kamber reporting live for us from london. we appreciate your perspective from for us from there. in san francisco, people gathered at city hall to sign the city's condolence book that will be delivered to the british consulate in san francisco. the queen visited the city by the bay once in

1983, the consul general of indonesia was also in san francisco to pick on hand to pay their respects. >> yes, we also so truly a is 5 people around the globe rules not only for the mothers but what mothers and the peoples leaders put the uk. >> the city says they may do another signing if there is enough public interest. and now the queen elizabeth has passed several things will change in the uk. the queen's portrait insignia or initials will be phased out and replaced by those of king charles, the 3rd, the national anthem will change from god save the queen to god save the king. the queen's images featured on all british coins and currency bills. that image will change to king charles, but that is expected to take some time because there's so much money in circulation. and we do have continuing coverage

on this story. more on queen elizabeth's life and legacy and what happens next for the royal family? you can find all that on our website. kron 4 dot com. now the peninsula, a chp officer is recovering from injuries after stopping a wrong-way driver. the chp says the driver of a silver honda was headed northbound in the southbound lanes of 2.80, in daly city when officers tried to stop the car, the man tried to get away. the chase ended in a 3 way crashes. you can see here, including a patrol car, the driver of the honda has been arrested for felony dui. the chp officer is expected to be okay. marin county filed a lawsuit against biotech giant monsanto alleging chemicals they produced known as pcbs, contaminated the community. cities on the lawsuit include sandra fell and novato. they claim monsanto knew about the dangers of the chemical for more than 50 years but continue to promote the products anyway. the seabees were used in coolant and

lubricant and later banned in 1979. the county says similar lawsuits have been filed nationwide alleging that monsanto deliberately misled the public. environmental regulators and its own customers. so we could reap massive profits from pcb sales. protesters renew their calls to shut down the racetrack at golden gate fields. this coming after another horse. there died 10 days into the facility's summer. meet the animal rights group direct action everywhere says it's unclear whether the hot weather played a role in the horse deaths. officials say so far 9 horses have died at golden gate fields. the facility says the activists demonstrations pose serious health risks to the horses. but protestors argue that no deaths happened while they were present. coming up on the kron 4 morning news after 3 years, the oak town half marathon is back. while what you can expect at this year's race. and we have the latest on the mosquito fire in placer county. the difficult

>> and welcome back to kron 4 morning news. goad morning, everybody. and our traditional fog. checking back in again aloft and above. all of that is also some cloud cover, too. so we have 2 different types of moisture. the end result is also those cooler temperatures. we're going to see today little bit of a slight warm up going on inland tomorrow. but the cooling trend will remain into next week. now responsible for the cloud cover aloft is what's left of our tropical system don, in southern california to see the coverage area almost the entire state. it's almost like a big monsoon outbreak in some ways producing somewhat of a mere effect like that. futurecast for watching and emotion, nice clear patch in the east bay this afternoon. that does tend to add a little instability that shower activity in the mountains. do not forget all the way up to tahoe, but at least to the

south end also down in monterey bay as well. the system is not done with us overnight. here comes more cloud cover. maybe a sprinkle or 2 can't rule that out. and the other issue we look for is a couple lightning strikes is a possibility. again, we can't rule that out. given these kind of conditions, particularly as patches open up in the afternoon like that, just gives the atmosphere more energy. but we have some things working in our favor. it's cooler. we have this marine layer that's back again on shore. winds all kind of work to help stabilize the bay area. contrasted with say central california and also up in the mountains to playing this all the way out to monday morning. we still have some leftover cloud cover. but then as we get into monday, we should see a clear patch in maybe a little bit into tuesday before the clouds return again, latter portion of the week. there they are. those onshore winds this afternoon tomorrow afternoon as working in tandem for much improved temperature forecast. we've experience for before putting it all together for you. considerable clouds today, mild 80's inland. i asked tomorrow getting some 90's back again, temporarily.

nesbitt has more on how this money could help. >> the numbers are optimistic for several reasons. first off, san francisco has had a daily case report of 0 new cases several days last week. still the money promised and governor newsom signed budget will help prevent the case count from going up in the future. for months, health officials sounded the alarm on a lack of m-pox funding and resources. on friday assembly member phil ting announce how much california has allocated to stop the spread of 41.5. >> million dollars of emergency funding. to help local jurisdictions and community groups in particular combat. the mpx outbreak. the update happening as a cupboard hospital in san francisco. >> but the assembly member got a tour of where more than 15,000 vaccines have been administered. the hospital ceo doctor susan air lick leading both the tor and the hospitals fight against the disease. this new funding will very much help in our efforts to fight the spread of with increased access to treatment. >> testing and vaccinations

expected to take some time because there is so much money in circulation. back to the bay. a man is safe this morning after falling off of a cliff. it happened yesterday around 6 last night at baker beach, the san francisco fire department posting these photos of the dramatic rescue. the victim fell off the saw a side cliff and was able to call 9-1-1. the rescue taking about 2 hours. police say the man will be okay. on the peninsula. a chp officer is recovering from injuries after stopping a wrong-way driver. the chp says the driver of a silver honda was headed northbound in the southbound lanes of 2.80, in daly city. that's when officers tried to stop the car. but the man tried to get away leading into a chase that ended in a 3 way crash, including the patrol car. the driver has been arrested for felony dui. the driver of the silver honda. that is and the chp officer is expected to be okay. marin

county filed a lawsuit against biotech giant monsanto alleging chemicals they produced known as pcbs, contaminated the community cities on the lawsuit include sandra fell and novato. they claim the monsanto knew about the dangers of the chemical for more than 50 years but continue to promote the products anyway. pcbs were used in cool in sin lubricant and labor later banned in 1979. the county says similar lawsuits have been filed nationwide alleging that monsanto deliberately misled the public environmental regulators and some customers so we could reap profits from pcb sales. protesters renew their calls to shut down the racetrack at golden gate fields. this coming after another horse died there just 10 days into the facility's summer. meet the animal rights group direct action everywhere says it's unclear whether the hot weather played a role in the horse deaths. officials say so far 9 horses have died at golden gate fields. the

dealing with as well with the shot here. >> sfo, no delays happening and out of sfo. but again, some fog making its way known in the loft some scattered clouds temperature check. most readings in the 60's, in fact, just about everywhere, except in antioch, checking in at 71. now, this moisture coming up from this tropical system. it's going to produce cloud cover rain for portions of the mountains. tahoe is about the northern edge of where this is going to make it can't rule out a shower or 2 going on today or really even tomorrow. but it will start to dry out a little bit early into next week. look at the temperature, drop their 71. that will be reciprocated here in the bay area. little bit by the middle of the week. back to stormtracker 4 and there it is. what's left of k that really made landfall in southern california. that would actually been history headed and that officially plenty of the rain as we felt with that, the winds and now the moisture being pushed up towards the north. and we're actually on the very northwestern edge of all of that. that will play out for this weekend and a little bit

from august 28th showed 42 year-old richard visor arguing with the victim then stabbing him. the man then collapsed on the platform. bart police worked with the san francisco pd to identify the suspect. secretary of transportation, pete buttigieg, toured bay area public transit systems friday catching a ride on ac transit in oakland with congresswoman barbara lee yesterday. taking a look at areas of the city set to be improved with a federal grant. oakland got 14.5 million dollars last year from the infrastructure bill. it will be used to improve 7th street broadway and martin luther king junior way restoring public access to the waterfront as well. buttigieg arrived in san francisco thursday to see the central subway project which has been plagued by delays, but is still expected to open this fall. according to mta officials. back here in the bay area. and new details on the young mother beheaded outside of her san carlos home. a suspect is now in

the sutro here is what we've got going on and i have my own picture, which i think is the south bay on this. >> i think i had set up. but anyway, you get an idea about the fog that i've been talking about. that's been peeling away a little bit of the east bay shoreline. so here's the cloud cover associated with this of this product. tropical system are now subtropical in southern california. all the moisture being thrown up central coast and central valley. this will be a player through our entire weekend. its control in almost all the state and even up in vegas in arizona, as you can see, the practice think monsoon because it's pretty but similar. here's what we've got going on for oakland, oakland, a's with the white sox. 107, game time. temps around 70 variable clouds, mild winds less than 10 miles per the west, the breakdown today. we've got lower 80's going on. they're still getting a tap to mostly cloudy skies and all of this. but the entire bay area will call somewhat variable clouds. now tomorrow, we actually have a little bit of a temperature jump, but then the trend is longer term cooling into next week. we'll have more on that in the 4 zone forecast in just

produced known as pcbs, contaminated the community. cities on the lawsuit include sandra fell and novato. they claim monsanto knew about the dangers of the chemical for more than 50 years but continue to promote the products anyway. pcbs were used in coolant and lubricants and later banned in 1979. the county says similar lawsuits have been filed nationwide alleging that monsanto deliberately misled the public environmental regulators and its own customers so we can reap massive profits from pcb sales. protesters renew their calls to shut down the racetrack at golden gate fields. this coming after another horse. there died 10 days into the facility summer. meet the animal rights group direct action everywhere says it's unclear whether the hot weather played a role in the horse deaths. officials say so far 9 horses have died at golden gate fields. the facility says activists, demonstrators are others, activists demonstrations pose serious health risks to the

comes here in more resurgence of some cooler air. so enjoy the fall weather. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> now turning to el dorado and placer county. the massive mosquito fire now at 30,000 acres with 0% containment. zach boetto breaks down the challenges. fire crews now face. >> from the mosquito fire ripping through the tahoe national forest. this explosion in acreage means that the fuels in this area are ready to ignite. they're ready to come bus. and if the conditions are right, it will continue to burn the burning trees and brush causing a massive plume of smoke above placer and el dorado counties. that smoke also settling in the steep terrain. >> you can see how smoky things really are here off of mosquito ridge road fire officials say that the smoke is actually helping the firefight. we've actually been aided in some ways by the slow conversion that settled in over the fire. >> that's limited the amount of as well as the pre heating

that would occur if the sun was able to go directly onto the fuels and preheat them, allowing them to ignite as the fire came through. but with smoke causing low visibility, fire crews losing the ability to attack the fire from the air. in turn, crews taking advantage of what they can from the ground. pairing structures is a priority and also removing any unburned fuel between the existing control line and the fire itself as one of the priorities as well as the fire burns and mandatory evacuation orders forced people from their homes. law enforcement remains behind to keep an eye out for looters. if we catch stealing in this area, they will be going to jail. >> fire crews battled the steep smoky conditions. we're looking ahead to lower temperatures forecasted for the weekend while still remaining alert. we're looking forward to the temperature cool down this weekend. that should less exhausting for firefighters. but any change in weather can also lead to shift and other unstable atmosphere conditions. >> yet dangerous conditions
