cause. that's only the graphic that i have right now. let's pop that. they're there. we have temperatures getting talked about 66 or so by 11 and only into the 70's this afternoon with the mixture of some scattered clouds working. but by late tonight, we have some showers coming in here. we'll have more on that forecast coming up in a bit. stephanie. >> and any rain will be a welcome relief for our state which continues to navigate through some pretty tough drought conditions. and while the incoming moisture is expected to also help with wildfires burning right now, north bay fire officials are raising concerns about potential flooding in the burn scar area from 2020's glass fire. you may remember that fire scorched more than 65,000 acres in napa and sonoma counties. last year's storms led to significant flooding and some evacuations. >> the way that the fire burning the intensity really cook off the vegetation, kill the tree. canopies. and when you look up above the hills of santa rosa, you don't see the

regrowth and that burn scar that we saw in the tubbs fire. the nuns fire burns stars. >> the santa rosa fire marshal ads that one significant weekend of rainfall will not be enough to reduce the wildfire risks next month. so it's important. we all do our part to prevent those wildfires. a brush fire along i-580, in oakland burned at least 4 homes, sending one firefighter to the hospital with heat related injuries. that fire is out now. it did start near the area of 35th avenue in delaware in oakland's laurel district. the oakland fire chief saying at least one of the homes was not occupied at the time of the fire. we spoke with one of the residents affected by all of this. >> i got here. it a smoky and there i allow and its >> i furniture out. whatever

has to do >> the cause of the fire remains under investigation. >> and is an increased reward this morning for information leading to the arrest of the 3rd suspect. >> involved in the murder of a kron. 4 security guard police continue their search for love. ron gilbert, the reward for information leading to his arrest is now $40,000 and kevin nishita, as you can see their picture there was shot while protecting a kron. 4 news crew near oakland city hall just before thanksgiving last year, kevin died 3 days later. 2 other suspects are already in custody. and one of those suspects is due in court on monday. an oakland man is dead after a shooting in san leandro. 25 year-old victor mendez passed away thursday night after gunfire erupted on adams avenue last sunday. investigators say 4 people were trying to burglarize mendezes marijuana business

and started shooting at workers. there. at least 3 people were injured. 2 of them, including mendez, critically hurt. police say they caught one suspect, but 2 others got away. and the man convicted in the deadly ghost ship fire may wind up back in jail. derek aumento was convicted of all involuntary manslaughter after a fire at the oakland ghost ship warehouse killed. 36 people in 2016 as of last year he was given permission to serve out the rest of his 12 year sentence in home confinement this week. officers say they found a 38 caliber bullets bullet a machete. 10 bows in about 50 arrows inside of elmen has property in ukiah under his probation. amanda is not allowed to own firearms or deadly weapons if he is found in violation of his probation, he could be headed back to jail. another hearing on this will be held next month. and

police have a 41 year-old man in custody on suspicion of shooting another man in san francisco's chinatown, neighborhood. it happened thursday night on the 800 block of clay street. police say the men argued in one of them pulled out a gun shooting. the other the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. police later tracked down and arrested the suspect and his name has not yet been released. happening today, santa clara valley water host, a coastal cleanup day. it's an event for people who live in the area to help with the ongoing effort to preserve the county's rivers and creeks. kron four's. camila barco is live for us in san jose this morning with more. hey comey. morning when well, this is all happening, stephanie, because today is california coastal cleanup day and santa santa clara valley water. like you said, is doing their part to help clear any. >> trash or debris here in the streams and rivers that they have across the county. right now, we're standing behind

right behind me is actually the administration building. if i step out of the way, you'll try to zoom in over here. you'll notice of. small portion of water. it looks like it is a stream a river or stream over here. and this is where the volunteers are going to start. volunteers are going to be spread across the county to start cleaning up any debris and trash organizers say that this year's cleanups will be held in person. >> at 39, different sites around the county. that's a lot of sites right there. organizers say that trash that enters their waterways eventually finds its way to the san francisco bay. so today's event is very crucial in keeping these waterways clean. so like i said today, the event starts here outside the administration building here at santa clara valley water. and the event starts at 09:00am. and stefanie, they're asking any santa care residents to come on out today. volunteers sign up will be out at the site until noon.

i'll send it back to you. thanks very much. camila that looks like the weather might be cooperated for to appreciate your live >> and we're looking live now at sfo where things are back to normal this morning after more than 40 airport, fast food workers and supporters were arrested for protesting. the demonstrators called for higher wages and more affordable health care. police arrested and cited 41 people for blocking traffic outside of terminal 3. and you can see they're pretty sizable. some of the people arrested included city leaders and state senators. union leaders say most workers make $17.5 an hour and have not had a raise in years. some demonstrating said they have to work 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet. we reached out to sfo for comment and will update you once we get a response back.

>> in the morning hours, however, right above us is the layer of that dry air in the vertical sandwich, if you will. and that will give us a little bit of burga as things start off tomorrow morning. so there it is way up there in the northwest. just getting started. will take it really all day to kind of position itself. just right. and looking over the latest models and details with all of this. the general program seems to be pretty much the same. just a little bit of a light backing off with the amounts. but still generally very lofty. let's go ahead through this. and this is a nice treat into september like this. so today, pretty nice day. good deal. sunshine couple scattered clouds and all that temperatures behaving themselves. so definitely a day to get out and do what you got to do saturday night. here it comes. and some showers at least aloft working to this particular model run is running everything through a little bit faster. there you have about 6.15, or so already venturing into the east bay. there might be some virga here before you actually get that deeper rain but be patient because there's more to be had marching through the later morning and the afternoon

hours here comes some more chunks up from the south, as you can see, also seated with their parent low out to sea, giving us a whole day of festivities with this rain imbedded with it. some heavy rain showers with some lightning strikes will be tracking all that as well as we get into monday. it continues. so the monday morning commute looks to be pretty sloppy because whatever we get from sunday will be on the roads and on the ground and everything. so at first i won't create much. problems except for very, you know, burned areas and so forth. they may quickly flood as we speak right now. we don't have any statements with this, but that may change winds are coming with this package is, well, this is very much of a winter like storm system. we see the uptick in terms of winds all onshore. there they are by tonight. good clip happening here in the east bay and up there, the north bay as well getting into tomorrow. there you see the coverage or in the north bay and the peninsula to the santa cruz mountains. not as happy off to the east bay, but this is now sunday afternoon and notice the arrows. they're all from the south associated with the

general circulation of our low going into monday. still a little bit on the breezy side as well. so we've got scattered clouds today, mild 70's for the bay and inland. then for tomorrow, rain and thunder showers. it will start off in the north bay peninsula, san francisco. and then by the afternoon we're talking the east and the south bay as it spreads out later on during the day. that will be the afternoon evening hours and into monday, the next week we've got scattered showers to start thunder showers, too, through wednesday, then clearing up for the 2nd half. check it out for temperatures today. 70 for open 72, san jose and the bigger map. you've got upper 70's working in the far east bay. of course, we have a bit more in the 4 zone forecast in just a bit. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> 11 bay area schools are named national blue ribbon schools. the u.s. secretary of education making the announcement on friday. you can see the full list of bay area schools on your screen. there secretary recognizing a total of 29 california schools

and nationwide about 300 schools. and again, that list on your screen there. the department says the recognition is based on a school's overall academic performance trying to see if my high school made. all right. that's lynbrook high school. that's where i went in the north bay. police are asking for help finding those responsible for a string of car break-ins in american canyon early friday morning about 20 cars near the levine. a neighborhood were burglarized. the suspects leaving behind a path of destruction with shattered glass from broken windows. like the one you see here, police asking people to check their surveillance cameras to help identify the people responsible for this. and another big story we're following this morning. we're now 2 days before the funeral for gueen elizabeth. the second and thousands of people are still waiting in line to pay their respects. that line stretching for miles.

meanwhile, where world leaders start arrives are starting what arrive rather in london. and that's where we find lauren lyster. she's live in london for us with the latest. good morning, lauren. >> good morning. in just a short time, president biden is set to leave washington, d.c., headed here for london. all for queen elizabeth's funeral monday at westminster abbey were seeing world leaders start to arrive in the uk for that. this as thousands of people continue to line up behind me for a chance to personally view her coffin at westminster hall. we can show you some live pictures of this. it at this hour of the lines because the week is 16 hours long. short time ago, it was 24 hours. so it's actually improved. all these people waiting out in cold temperatures. it's a chilly morning. it was chilly overnight, but nonetheless queuing up for their chance to pay final respects to the queen and some of them this morning. got this surprise. take a look. king charles

himself, along with prince william heir to the throne. now they greeted people that were lining up to see the queen. there was a surprise. they shook hands. they thanked people for turning out. they were greeted with applause and we have seen a famous face passed through westminster abbey. look at this. british former soccer star david back in. he walked through westminster hall, bowed his head when he passed the queen's coffin. looking visibly emotional and get this. he lined up with everybody else. he waited 12 hours. we're told, talking to fans along the way, even taking some selfies. and after passing through, here's what he had to say about the late queen. >> have some on the much as lead for the amount of time with kindness with karin and always reassuring spot. i think was someone special and will be missed. not just by by

>> firefighting efforts continue on the mosquito fire this morning in placer county. it's now considered the largest fire burning in california right now, scorching more than 70,000 acres. it is now 20% contained. the smoke from the mosquito fire so intense it has produced hazardous air quality in states for the north and east, including oregon and wyoming. and we do have new video this morning

with a good deal. sunshine as well over things change tonight, we're going to walk through that and that's going to set the stage for a unsettled early part of the week. again for a good cause and with mild temperatures as well. we'll have your 4 zone to stephanie. thanks very much. day. >> and now to a story we're following in the east bay. 5 people, including 3 kids are recovering in the hospital after 2 cars crashed into an antioch home as kron four's. dan thorn explains. the kids were walking home from school at the time of that crash. >> air and ground crews rushing to the scene in antioch after 5 people, including 3 children are hurt in a crash. the 2 cars colliding on manzanita way and sycamore drive before hitting a house friday afternoon. a witness ronald miles describes the scene. >> with front, our new primetime, he was face down. and wasn't breathing the other one was in the bushes in front of house. and on the side of the house, a little girl was not done.

>> investigators say the 3.12 year-olds were on the sidewalk when they were hit by the cars. >> 2 of the children had to be airlifted. >> heart is broken for these kids and i can i hope and pray that they're going to be ok, contra. costa county fire says the 2 adults believed to be the drivers were. 21 29 years old. >> they were taken to area hospitals via ambulance. there were no reports of anyone in the home that was struck being injured. >> and that was dan thorn reporting for us this morning. emergency officials say 4 of those injured are in critical condition. in the south bay community is mourning the death of an 8 year-old boy hit by a car in san jose kron four's rob nesbitt brings us community reaction from the memorial. >> you can see the memorial of flowers that has formed people coming and going to pay their respects for the 8 year-old boy who was killed at this intersection. residents in this area of san jose are concerned for their own

children and grandchildren who cross the street every day. it was around 08:00am when gloria cling board hear the accident just feet from her home on castle want ave when she walked outside, she was met with the scene of emotions. people were screaming, crying, kids. we're here with the >> there were you to some said san jose police say an 8 year-old boy and 44 year-old woman who was his baby sitter was struck by a car. >> both were taken to the hospital. the babysitter suffering with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. 49 traffic fatality in the city of san jose for this year. officer steve aponte says the woman who was driving the vehicle is cooperating with police and no arrests have been made the speed limit in the area near castle entry school is 25 miles per hour. those speed doesn't appear to be a factor in this fatal accident. police are reminding drivers about the importance of awareness. we need to slow down attentive. >> need to make sure that you're watching, especially in a trap and area that is nearby school. if you're following

the rules of the road and being aware that is a school, parents like arcadia garcia say the intersection of castle mohnton driftwood has been a dangerous area for years. concerned that a driver won't be paying attention when her 6 year-old daughter tries to cross the street. but sometimes the cars or they don't notice and they really don't care. >> and they just like it. they go really fast. a memorial of flowers was placed roadside for the 8 year-old boy was a 3rd grader at and elementary school. residents like clean board paying their respects and asking for more signage at the intersection to prevent another fatality. i have my kids, my granddaughters feed my granddaughter. >> they walked to school. and i don't want this to no other child killed. officer aponte says his department is still dealing with a staffing shortage, but they're making a hiring push right now to try to get more officers on staff, including traffic enforcement officers who will try to prevent tragedies like this from happening. >> reporting in san jose, i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> also in san jose, 3 people are recovering in the hospital

after a two-car crash at the intersection of tully and center roads. the cause of the crash is under investigation. a motorcycle rider was killed by a bart train in oakland, oakland, police identifying the victim as a 35 year-old man. the collision happened friday afternoon near 23rd street and northgate avenue. officials say the victim lost control of his bike, hit the curb and then landed on the tracks. the crash temporarily disrupted service in both directions at the 19 street station in downtown oakland. you can see the big backup that that collision caused there. and as of this morning, though, service is now back and running. normally. on the peninsula. scary situation for a family. after their balcony collapsed, falling down. 2 floors, 2 adults and 2 children fell from the second floor straight down on to the brick driveway. fire crews rushed to the scene to take

the family to a nearby hospital. neighbors say they heard a horrible sound. they looked out to see the family sprawled on the ground. >> oh, i'm bill is so when i saw it as our that collapsed a officer and fill up your call, they put on the it's think 4 people were injured. >> a city building instruct inspector came out and issued a warning putting a yellow tag on that sliding glass door that went out to the balcony. a relative tells kron for the family is still under medical evaluation. governor newsom signed a sweeping set of laws that aim to dramatically cut the state's use of oil and gas over the next 2 decades, he appeared in vallejo yesterday morning to make the announcement. the goal is for california to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. the laws also require most retail sales of electricity to be renewable or 0 carbon forms of energy by

check in with dave sphar for our forecast is in the weather center with the very latest a day. hear that song so many times and karaoke to. yeah. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. >> the east bay looking okay. but there's that fog and haze kind of hanging around a little bit. most of the bay area's opening up pretty nicely. >> as we speak now, we're showing you earlier shots from the golden gate bridge, things changing tonight and what we're talking about happening on the home front will be reciprocated up to tahoe as well. here we have it for monday. it'll take a while to get up there into tuesday. that will also come potentially with some scattered thunder showers, working its magic as well. but that means that rain is going to go all the way across the state, covering the fires as well. so that's good news for that. now, as far as snow, you wonder they're looking at levels of about 8800 feet. come on the season is young september. so we do expect it to be that low. but later in the season, hopefully will at some snow to that as conditions start o change into the fall and winter. so there it is up towards our north west. that band of cloud

cover today. not a bad day. let's put it together for you in future cast for generally speaking. is calling it some scattered clouds rolling on in for tonight, though, here's that band of rain also sitting with that low. so it's going to continue to supply from our southwest right across the bay. we're in the perfect geography to get hit by this into the afternoon. that's when the east and the south bay starts to get their treatment. watch the santa cruz mountains. that's a place that tends to get flooded a lot from this as well as the burned in areas could be a problem up in the north bay where this is going to start. but as you can see into the afternoon, it continues through sunday night with other clemson waves carrying with it. embedded thunder showers. this is the overnight monday. look at that good dose of rain occurring there across the central valley, sacramento valley as well. continuing on into early next week. just looking quantitatively of the first wave that hits all of this. we see sunday. there's the coverage out until sunday evening. more than half of an inch for the immediate bakes up down in the south bay, even

controls the gates at all. cal train crossings today and tomorrow in san mateo in burlingame, caltrain officials say they expect delays of up to 5 minutes at the crossing gates during those tests. this is part of ongoing caltrain modernization programs that will electrify the caltrain corridor from san francisco's for thinking station in san jose. this project will also improve system performance according to cal train, they say will also enable faster service and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. caltrain electrification is scheduled to be fully operational by 2024. in the east bay, a middle school cheerleading coach is in custody after being charged with crimes against a child kron four's. philippe djegal has the latest on this investigation. >> on wednesday, investigators with the contra costa county district attorney's office, internet crimes against children task force arrested. 41 year-old nicholas mose be he is currently a teacher at

looking night looking out there? well, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. a pretty pleasant saturday along the way here. temperatures pretty much in the 70's even inland going on here is we have the dry day before things change that will happen. >> as early as tonight, we're looking at and then that will continue on into the early part of the week up this layer of fog. those you can see right over the bay rioht below what you can see that sun peering on through. we're seeing pretty good pictures coming in from the golden upstream. that deck of cloud cover. yes, that's the showstopper. and we're looking for this into late tonight. some rain developing up in the north bay through tomorrow and into actually early part of the week. most readings are holding in the 50's for right now. we got 60 concord. 62 going on in iraq and a 50 7 for san jose winds there kind of variable right now. but there is that on shore tendency and then little bit of a south wind for you, folks in the east bay. and that's going to be around even tomorrow afternoon at quite a good clip because it will be associated with this low providing us these waves of

rain. 68 by high noon by 3. we're talking about 70. so a lot of 70's inland happening today. again, everything gets started late tonight early tomorrow morning. we're tracking it. more details on that coming up in just a bit. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> well, any rain will be a welcome relief for our state which continues to navigate through tough drought conditions. and while this incoming moisture is expected to also help with wildfires burning right now, north bay fire officials are raising concerns about potential flooding in the burn scar area from 2020's class fire. you may remember that fire scorched more than 65,000 acres in napa and sonoma counties. and last year's storms led to significant flooding and some evacuations. >> the way that the fire burning the intensity really cook off the vegetation, kill the tree. canopies. and when you look up above the hills of santa rosa, you don't see the regrowth and that burn scar that we saw in the tubbs fire and the nuns fire burned stars.

>> the santa rosa fire marshal adds that one significant weekend of rain will not be enough to reduce the wildfire risks next month. a brush fire along i-580, in oakland burned at least 4 homes sending one firefighter to the hospital with heat related injuries. that fire is out now. but we know it started near the area of 35th avenue in delaware in oakland's laurel district. the fire chief there saying at least one of the homes was not occupied at the time of the fire. we spoke with some of the residents affected by all this. >> i got here. it smoky and there. >> i told firefighters allow and its 40 i furniture out. whatever you do, hear >> the cause of the fire remains under investigation. >> and there is an increase reward this morning for

information leading to the arrest of the 3rd suspect. >> involved in the murder of a kron. 4 security guard police continue their search for little ron gilbert and the reward for information leading to his arrest is now $40,000. kevin nishita pictured here on your screen. he was shot while protecting a kron. 4 news crew near oakland city hall just before thanksgiving last year, kevin die 3 days later. 2 other suspects are already in custody. and one of them is due in court on monday. in oakland, man is dead after a shooting in san leandro. 25 year-old victor mendez passed away thursday night after gunfire erupted on adams avenue last sunday. investigators say 4 people were trying to burglarize mendezes marijuana business and started shooting at workers. there. at least 3 people were injured. 2 of them, including mendez, were critically hurt. police say they caught one suspect, but 2 others got away. and the man

convicted in the deadly go ship fire may wind up back in jail. derick was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after a fire at the oakland ghost ship warehouse killed. 36 people in 2016 as of last year he was given permission to serve out the rest of his 12 year sentence in home confinement this week. officers say they found a 38 caliber bullet a machete. 10 bows and about 50 arrows inside of a man has property in ukiah under his probation, a man is not allowed to own firearms or deadly weapons if he is found in violation of his probation, he may be headed back to jail. another hearing on this will be held next month. and police have a 41 year-old man in custody on suspicion of shooting. another man is san francisco's chinatown neighborhood. it happened thursday night on the 800 block of clay street. police say the men argued and one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other. the victim

suffered life-threatening injuries. police later tracked down and arrested the suspect. his name has not yet been released. happening today, santa clara valley water host, a coastal cleanup day. this is an event for people who live in the area to we want to help with the ongoing effort to preserve the county's rivers and creeks. kron four's. camila barco is live for us in san jose with more on how we can help pay camila. >> good morning, stephanie. so yeah. today is california coastal cleanup day santa clara valley water is participating by hosting their own event. and if i can over, you can already see some a crew setting up for today's event. now, the point of today's to pick up any debris or trash left on or by waterways valley, water's cleanup starts just outside its administration building. there's a small body of water right next to the building. it's the one you see on your screen. volunteers are then going to be spread out to different sites to collect any trash they find. and

off a short time bring you that in a moment. but first, let's talk about all of the people that are gathered behind me waiting to pay their respects to queen elizabeth in her coffin in westminster hall just over my shoulder. let's take a live look at those lines. the wait at this hour, 13 hours, we're told that's down from its height. 24 hours, which we saw in the morning began and the lines are in the thousands. they have been miles long for days now, the queen lies in state for today and tomorrow ahead of her funeral. and it is for a moment that i'll show you in just a moment. but first, let's go and take a look at president biden leaving washington, d.c., a short time ago. the president and the first lady are headed to london for the queen's funeral monday. and we're told that they're going to also pay respects to the queen, which we take to mean passing through westminster hall and saying goodbye right there in front of her coffin. and

attend a reception hosted by king charles with other dignitaries and sign a condolence book. we've learned originally there was reporting of some informal talks with the new british prime minister. we've learned that will not happen during his trip, but is due to happen later at the un general assembly. now, let's show you the mourners that we can. let's let's show you some new video that we have of people being greeted by the king himself and prince william. now this happened just a short while ago earlier this morning when people that are waiting to see the queen were surprised by the new king king charles and prince william. they were shaking hands with people in line that we're waiting to get into westminster hall, thanking them for turning out and the prince and king were greeted with applause when they just showed up at the lines that stretch along the river thames. and then let me show you this. it follows this

moment inside westminster hall. so you'll see the scene there where the queen's coffin lies on a cat. a fog draped in the royal standard flag and a dorm with the imperial state crown. and where last night the king and his other siblings, the queen's children, they surrounded the coffin holding a vigil for 15 minutes. now. this ceremony was taking place as members of the public were continuing to stream through. so if you just happen to be at the front line by that time, you witness this moment. now back out here live. next up is the grandchildren. the queen's 8 grandchildren are set to hold the same tribute to their grandmother sometime today, including princes william and harry. and we've learned that harry will be in his full military uniform along with william. but what's interesting is it here is not a working royal anymore. so he hasn't been able to wear his military uniform during any of the other. any of the other official events. but we're told in this case, this comes at the king's request. so

place for it, by the way, because it continues to deliver a snow squall lines going on. so tomorrow morning, things will be involved with rain happening in theory in the east bay. and i say in theory because sometimes some evaporative a separation occurs when it gets started. at first that berg effect. but once that gets broken through, it will start striking the ground and we haven't the north bay and even down to the south bay. speaking of flooding concerns also got to watch the santa cruz mountains. they're going to get hit pretty hard with all of this is you see it kind of continues. new waves over that area. they burned areas as well from recent fires. so that may pose a problem to here sunday night. good. the batch of some heavier rain going on in the east bay from this vantage point. again, all with their same low overnight tomorrow morning. there's the rain in the central valley. this is now monday morning. so this thing's going to be around for us for a while, though. we do see a clear patch developing up to san francisco in the peninsula. all right. those winds, this is the true package of winter onshore. they will be at least for the peninsula in san

francisco. but they do seem a little bit of a shift happening in the east bay from the south. notice, as you can see along the peninsula to and the santa cruz mountains again, getting a good clip from this into the 20 to maybe perhaps 30 miles per hour range as we hold this discussion, there are no statements that have been issued not for winds because they just haven't reached yet the threshold thinking, is it the thinking is but also the rain amounts because of the first hit. they're just kind of laying low to see how much we get from this first weight. scattered clouds for today. mild got 70's bay inland tomorrow. it's rain, thunder showers working in here. it's going to start north bay, san francisco, then peninsula east bay and south bay. typical as a winter storm is and that's going continue early next week with scattered showers could be thunder showers thrown in there for the early part of next week as late as wednesday through all of this and then clearing up a little bit of warm patch into next weekend. it looks as we have the first weekend of fall. 67 san francisco, 70 oakland, we've got 72 san jose. check it out. and the big temperature map here got the mid 70's. we'll have more on this on the 4

shoreline kind of shows. we can see some sun peering out there. you can see just below everything here, but get this little bit about an hour or so to kind of work. its magic now unbalanced. today. we have some variable clouds still working here, but on balance, it looks to be pretty good until this all happens tonight in into your sunday. there it is. the deck of cloud cover. we're talking about bringing that rain in as early as late tonight, early tomorrow morning. you know, you heard us to talking, of course, about the mosquito fire going on here that air quality associated with all of that as well. hopefully the rain will be what the doctor ordered across the immediate bay area. we're looking pretty good on that. and the rain hopefully will help bring some of the particulate matter too. back out on the ground, clean up the air quality. 64 at this hour for antioch. we've got 60 hayward 60 for san carlos, but still quite a bit of 50's holding on at the giants game today versus the dodgers game time 6, 0, 5, 60 ish temperatures will call it increasing those clouds and the fog rolling back in the breakdown for you today about

year-olds were on the sidewalk when they were hit by the cars. >> 2 of the children had to be airlifted. >> heart is broken for these kids and i can i hope and pray that they're going to be ok. >> contra costa county fire says the 2 adults believed to be the drivers were. 21 29 years old. they were taken to area hospitals via ambulance. there were no reports of anyone in the home that was struck being injured. >> that was dan thorn reporting for us this morning. emergency officials say 4 of those injured are in critical condition. in the south bay community is mourning the death of an 8 year-old boy hit by a car in san jose kron four's rob nesbitt brings us community reaction from the memorial. >> you can see the memorial of flowers that has formed people coming and going to pay their respects for the 8 year-old boy who was killed at this intersection. residents in this area of san jose are concerned for their own children and grandchildren who cross the street every day. it

was around 08:00am when gloria cling board heard the accident just feet from her home on castle want ave when she walked outside, she was met with the scene of emotions. people were screaming, crying. kids were here for the >> there were you to some said san jose police say an 8 year-old boy and 44 year-old woman who was his baby sitter was struck by a car. >> both were taken to the hospital. the babysitter suffering with serious but non-life-threatkning injuries. the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. if 49 traffic fatality in the city of san jose for this year. officer steve aponte says the woman who was driving the vehicle is cooperating with police and no arrests have been made the speed limit in the area near and elementary school is 25 miles per hour. those speed doesn't appear to be a factor in this fatal accident. police are reminding drivers about the importance of awareness. we need to slow down up a tense. >> need to make sure that you're watching, especially in a traffic area that is nearby school. if you're following the rules of the road and being aware that is a school,

parents like arcadia garcia say the intersection of castle mohnton driftwood has been a dangerous area for years. concernsd that a driver won't be paying attention when her 6 year-old daughter tries to cross the street. but sometimes a or they don't notice and they really don't care. >> and they just like if they go really fast, a memorial of flowers was placed roadside for the 8 year-old boy was a 3rd grader at castle entry school residents like clean board paying their respects and asking for more signage at the intersection to prevent another fatality. i have my kids, my granddaughters feed my granddaughter. >> they walked to school. and i don't want this to no other child killed. officer aponte says his department is still dealing with a staffing shortage, but they're making a hiring push right now to try to get more officers on staff, including traffic enforcement officers who will try to prevent tragedies like this from happening. >> reporting in san jose, i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> also in san jose, 3 people are recovering in the hospital after a two-car crash that

happened at the intersection of tully and center roads. the cause behind this crash is under investigation. a motorcycle riders killed by a bart train in oakland police there identifying the victim is a 35 year-old oakland man. the collision happened friday afternoon near 23rd street in northgate avenue. officials say the victim lost control of his bike, hit the curb and then landed on the tracks. the crash temporarily disrupting service in both directions at the 19 street station in downtown oakland. you can see the big backup that collision caused on your screen. there. and as of this morning, however, service is now back and running. normally. on the peninsula. a scary situation for a family after their bout than a collapsed 2 adults and 2 kids fell from the second floor straight down on to the brick driveway. fire crews rushed to the scene to take the family to a nearby hospital. neighbors say they heard a horrible sound. they

looked out to see the family sprawled on the ground. >> oh, i'm bill is so when i saw it as our that collapsed a officer and fill up your call, they put on the it's think 4 people were injured. >> a city building instructor came out and they issued a warning. they put that yellow tag. you see there on a sliding glass door that goes out to the balcony relative tells kron 4 that the family is still under medical evaluation. governor gavin newsom signed a sweeping set of laws that aim to dramatically cut the state's use of oil and gas over the next 2 decades. the governor appearing in vallejo yesterday morning to make the announcement. the goal is for california to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. the laws also require most retail sales of electricity to be renewable or 0 carbon forms of energy by 2035, the governor saying it. this is a big step forward for california.

prevent fires. cut emissions. and cleaner air. yes on 30. >> welcome back to kron 4 morning news. good morning, everybody. and live shot coming in to the east bay shoreline. funny start to break up some of this morning. fog looks like going into a mostly sunny mode or at least some scattered clouds today, mild on those temperatures, though, a little flavor of falls. we see 70's even well inland. so we know it could be unsettled going on tomorrow. how about up in tahoe? well, it's a little early in the season to be talking about snow. so those snow levels are going up there around 8800 feet or so forth. but they'll get the rain along with that. some it can stir of right across central valley and off towards the mountains to help out with those fires going on. so that's good news on that

front. and temperatures were subdued down in the upper 50's. it looks like. so there it is up in our northwest. from our perspective here for today, keeping a quite a bit of sunshine on tap, handing it over to future cast for scattered clouds throughout the day today, thickening up as we get to late tonight, now, remember, some of this early rain is going to have to go through a layer of dry air to moistened up first until we start to get the rain going on and to the north bay, then it gets into the east bay by the afternoon and the evening and on to the south bay got to watch the higher elevations. the mountain slopes facing the coast. they always get hit the hardest, but already as late as 04:00am on monday, still quite active. as you can see. and that will continue through monday. and even as late as wednesday, although much more of a scattered shower event, folks, the national weather service are watching this first wave kind of play up before they make any decisions on any watches or advisories or anything. this is just a projection of rainfall totals that we see going on. a good half inch. looks like by sunday night and upwards to

strikes thrown in here just about each day. that includes tomorrow. there's the warm up happening as we get into friday. by the way, fog. it's here. that's the equinox thing thursday around. 82 in that day. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> the cal state school system faces some financial trouble. the csu board of trustees voted on wednesday to request 530 million dollars for a new operating budget. it's expected to cover raises improved facilities and graduation rates. students from csu long beach staged a walkout last week because of what they called a lack of air conditioning and also inadequate conditions of dorms and classrooms. campus officials identified a backlog of close to 6 billion dollars needed to update facilities built between the 1950's to 1970's. on the peninsula. crews will be installing a new signal system that controls the gates. it all cal train crossings today and tomorrow in san mateo and burlingame,

caltrain officials say to expect delays of up to 5 minutes at that crossing during the tests. now, this is part of the caltrain modernization program. it works to electrify the caltrain corridor from san francisco's 4th and king station to san jose. the electrification will also improve system maintenance, enable faster service and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. according to caltrain officials, the electrification is scheduled to be fully operational by 2024. in the east bay, a middle school cheerleading coach is in custody after being charged with crimes against a child kron four's. philippe djegal has the latest on the investigation. >> on wednesday, investigators with the contra costa county district attorney's office, internet crimes against children, task force arrested. 41 year-old nicholas mose be he is currently a teacher at diablo vista, middle school in danville and has worked as a cheerleading instructor in the area for several years. this

is the tip of the iceberg. >> this man is working in the tri valley for a decade teaching hundreds of girls of high school. there's more to tell the story. moves be has been charged with one count of committing a lewd act upon a child. and one count of distributing or showing to a minor. >> a mother who wants to remain anonymous says most be was her 16 year-old daughter's cheerleading coach for 4 years at newark, san ramon and says it times he made her feel uncomfortable, not touching, but she did say. >> she knew that everyone knows he's where this mother is upset because she says the san ramon valley unified school district did not immediately notify parents of most these arrest or acknowledge that he has a prior criminal record before teaching at the middle school. he taught san ramon valley high school. more parents need to come forward with their stories. their their their daughters have to be brave. and so, yes, this happened to me. >> so that we can keep this

unsafe or illegal behavior from its staff, especially when it concerns their students. california attorney general rob bonta reached a settlement with safeway over their gas stations. the attorney general saying 71 safeway gas stations were leaking fuel into california's water supply. the ags office going on to say safe way did not adequately monitor its fuel storage systems or take steps to maintain them. safeway settle for an 8 million dollars penalty. purple tomatoes could be coming to your local grocery store. the department of agriculture just gave the green light for growers to cultivate these genetically modified purple potatoes. just look at that. a professor in england developed the purple tomato back in and they're apparently high in antioxidants like those found in blackberries and blueberries. i wonder if they taste the same as the red what's so? we'll see. well,

there's a new program in san francisco aimed at helping musicians set up performances around golden gate park. the san francisco recreation and parks department announced the new busking program yesterday. the city will start charging a $73 application fee. so this is going to cost you starting on march. first of next year. but for the time being, it is free. you only need to provide a photo id contact information and a description of your performance to busk no amplified sound is allowed at the 7 spots where the performances will be held. so keep that in mind. if you're aspiring musician and as we head into the break, if you're looking for something to do this weekend, there is the big chill out surf competition and pacific of the sounds very relaxing. >> it goes on until 5 this evening at pacifica state beach and it is free to attend.

probably see some winds with this storm system as well. not just on sunday, but lingering into monday and that will come with some claps of thunder thrown in for good measure. that's not a good part, but at least it's coming with some rain. that's good. well, more m >> and any rain, of course, will be a welcome relief for our state, which continues to navigate through some pretty tough drought conditions. but as dan rather kron four's, dan kerman explains, there are also concerns about potential flooding in the north bay. >> bone dry is how you might describe the brush across santa rosa. and it's no wonder considering how little rain the region, the scene. that's why firefighters say the pending storm will help reduce fire risks in the near term. >> the fact that we're looking at these this amount of rainfall here locally is is definitely going to put a damper on that activity, at least here locally for hopefully the next week, if not longer. but again, we'll have to see what happens with our conditions as as we push

late september early october, where historically we've had now a lot of a devastating and damaging fires. but center is a fire marshal. paul lowenthal says unless we end up seeing a series of storms. >> for your concerns will return to critical levels, especially when you're looking at the temperatures. >> starting to increase later next week. >> and then the long-range forecast looking at potential for for wind events as we push until late september early october. another concern whenever they're significant rain is flooding. >> that's what happened last year in santa rosa due to the burn scar and lack of regrowth. >> where the glass fire burned in 2020. >> our is monitoring that situation. we've been watching it very carefully now for almost 2 years. and again, we'll have to see how it how it does with this amount of rain this year. and that will kind of help us better forecast what the potential is as we push further into the winter. >> so the key takeaway is, mois is certainly helpful in terms of this dry brush. it's still

way too early to say it's going to take us out of that fire danger zone. >> in santa rosa, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> a brush fire along i-580, in oakland burned at least 4 homes, sending one firefighter to the hospital with heat related injuries. that fire is out now. but we know it started near the area of 35th avenue and delaware in oakland's laurel district. the fire chief there saying at least one of the homes was not occupied at the time of the fire. we spoke with one of the residents affected by all of this. i'm not here. it a smoky. and there. >> i told firefighters allow and its 40 i furniture out? whatever has to do >> the cause of the fire remains under investigation. there is an increased reward this morning for information leading to the arrest of the

3rd suspect involved in the murder of a kron. 4 security guard police continue their search for little. ron gilbert, gilbert, the reward for information leading to his arrest. now, $40,000, kevin nishita was shot while protecting a kron. 4 news crew near oakland city hall just before thanksgiving last year. kevin died 3 days later. 2 other suspects are already in custody. and one of the suspects is due in court on monday. an oakland man is dead after a shooting in san leandro. 25 year-old victor mendez passed away thursday night after gunfire erupted on adams avenue last sunday. investigators say 4 people were trying to burglarize mendezes marijuana business and started shooting at workers. there. at least 3 people were injured. 2 of them, including mendez, were critically hurt. police say they caught one suspect, but 2 others got away. the man convicted in the deadly ghost

ship fire may wind up back in jail. derek aumento was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after a fire at the oakland ghost ship warehouse killed. 36 people in 2016 as of last year he was given permission to serve out the rest in violation of his probation, he could be headed back to jail. another hearing on this will be held next month. police have a 41 year-old man in custody on suspicion of shooting another man in san francisco's chinatown, neighborhood. it happened thursday night on the 800 block of clay street. police say the men argued and one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other. the victim suffered

life-threatening injuries. police later tracked down and arrested the suspect. his name has not yet been released. happening today, santa clara valley water host, a coastal cleanup day. it's an event for people who live in the area to help with the ongoing effort to preserve the county's rivers and creeks. kron 4 s camila barco is live for us in san jose with more on what people can expect today. good morning. camila. good morning, stephanie c at today is california cool california. coastal cleanup day and right now santa clara valley water is participating in the event by hosting their own cleanup event in a pan over. so you guys can take a look. >> as to the turnout this morning, you'll see some volunteers actually checking in for the cleanup event. organizers tell me that they're expecting a little more than 1000 volunteers to show up. this is currently one of the cleanup sites where they'll be able to collect any trash or debris that they find. now this year, there's almost 40 cleanup sites across the county. one of those

places is just outside valley. water's administration building. you're taking a look at it right now. they'll be tackling the county's creeks and rivers because organizers say the debris that enters those waterways eventually finds its way to the san francisco bay. last year, volunteers collected more than 29,000 pounds of trash and collectively walked more than 99 miles of creeks and rivers. and stephanie, those numbers to show how important cleanups are, which help prevent water pollution and keep the habitats of many animals protected. now back out here live once again. you're taking a look at the check-in process here at valley. water's clean up event. a few volunteers have come out here again. this is just one of 39 cleanup sites across the county. and stephanie, i spoke to 2 of the directors here at valley waters at valley water. and they tell me that actually, over the years they have seen even more trash here out in the waterways. but again,

of the people that are lined up. they shook hands. they thanked people for turning out for there, mother and grandmother respectively. and this was a complete surprise. the people in line who saw the applauded when they arrived. and it was just one of those moments that, you know, right place, right? time for people and not part of the line. and it follows a really solemn end regal ceremony last night inside westminster hall. it show you those images. the king, along with his siblings. so all 4 of the king's children, they marched into westminster hall where the queen's coffin sits atop a cat a fault and is draped with the royal standard flag adorned with the crown. they surrounded it and they held vigil for 15 minutes in silence. heads down. this is a ceremony that people witness if they happen to be some of the lucky ones that we're going through the hall at that time back out here live tonight or later today. it is

san jose police say an 8 year-old boy and 44 year-old woman who was his baby sitter was struck by a car. >> both were taken to the hospital. the babysitter suffering with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. 49th traffic fatality in the city of san jose for this year. officer steve aponte says the woman who was driving the vehicle is cooperating with police and no arrests have been made the speed limit in the area near and elementary school is 25 miles per hour. those speed doesn't appear to be a factor in this fatal accident. police are reminding drivers about the importance of awareness. we need to slow down up attentive. >> need to make sure that you're watching, especially in a trap and area that is nearby school. if you're following the rules of the road and being aware that is a school, parents like arcadia garcia say the intersection of castle mohnton driftwood has been a dangerous area for years. concerned that a driver won't be paying attention when her 6 year-old daughter tries to cross the street. but sometimes the car, hurry or they don't notice and they

humidity levels you don't have to have 100% humidity to have good solid rain going on. that's true. this is already advanced to the overnight. so we're starting to get some rain working in here up in the north bay. and as the day progresses, it dries out a little bit in the east bay, but then it gets overlap with yet another resurgence of rain coming. so there's a little clear patch, the kind of develops in the afternoon before an evening surge. and overnight, more importantly, search will probably see some radiation fog going on with all of that, which is different than our typical of action fog. there's the low responsible for the rain over the next couple of days. then after that, there is little bit of a warming trend that happens to take us into next weekend. and that means temperatures least around the bay inland will be in the upper 80's near about 90 4 zone forecast today. quite differedt. 67 san francisco 60's hugging the coast. as you can see, 69 going on for burlingame to the south will do about 74 foster city. 71 for palo alto in the south bay, lower 70's as well. to 69 60's cover the east bay and 72

rights. that's also a cause that has been near and dear to my heart throughout my life. and we are stepping up and showing that we need it with our words and with our actions. we have been fighting for a greater presence for women in jobs in the construction industry, in all kinds of roles in public life. and that needs to be reflected, too. in our sports teams. i'm thrilled about the women's soccer team as well as the open group soccer team. we are building the next generation of sports leadership as well as women's leadership throughout our community and having a wnba team in oakland would be a perfect match for all these things as well as the fact that our location can be accessed by the entire greater bay region on bart, on real on freeway. and so we can harness that strength and that energy for a wnba team to be very successful here. and yes, that is a wnba basketball behind me. >> so what happens after after

the resolution is introduced at tuesday's city council meeting? i'm assuming that you're all gonna vote on it and where do things go from there? >> so the wnba will be having their own process in discussion with different proposes of teams in different cities and have said that it is their goal to expand to additional cities in the coming year. and so we are lining the south with the timing that the wnba is undertaking, that they are now preparing to consider expansion. so this isn't just a shot in the dark. you know, the wnba has said they are getting ready to consider which places to expand. and we know the oakland and the region surrounding oakland have one of the strongest w in the 8th and you are ships of any area in the country that doesn't yet have a team. and so it is a perfect place to put a team both for the cultural match and for the economic opportunity. >> alright, oakland, vice mayor rebecca kaplan, thank you so much for your perspective and your enthusiasm this morning for the project. >> well, thank you so much.
