>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> hey, good morning. thank you so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. >> i'm stephanie lin. it is sunday october. the second. so let's let's start things off with a check on the weather with dave spahr the day. a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and we're doing it again. those fog clouds quite thick and persistent going on for this morning. >> and that's going to slow or temperature climb a little bit until they find a clear out even some of those inland areas may take a little while here and that will keep temperatures down a bit as we finish off the weekend into early next week. gradual warming trend. here's the shot of the uc berkeley. there's the east bay shoreline in the

overcast conditions that we have to get. things started back to that fog. it clears out over most of the district before we get to high noon and then we'll see the sun come out and play for a mild afternoon. they were turning again for tonight. looks like and quite a good coverage, as you can see as it makes its way well, inland winds are continuing their on shore flow. pretty much a single digits over most of the district, a little bit heavier in some of those wind channeled areas. temperatures are holding much in the lower 60. so we're kind of mild to start things off, but again, will be trailing for the first couple of hours of daylight. heating the breakdown for you about 67 as we get to 11 o'clock by 2. 75 a little bit of a mining, a warming trend that we get to about mid-week. but don't worry in those inland valleys will get a little flavor of summer later on. we'll have more on your forecast. coming up in just a bit, stephanie. all right. looking forward to it. thank you, dave. >> on the peninsula, an elderly woman is robbed in broad daylight out of her daily city. home security video shows one of the attackers dressed as a utility worker kron four's. amanda hari spoke with the victim's

family. >> what started as a typical wednesday morning for this grandmother watering her flowers quickly turned into one the scariest moments of her life. the woman's granddaughter schuyler says the family is worried about their safety. she asked us not to reveal the family's last name security video shows this white kia pulling up to the home. then 10 minutes later, a man identifies himself as a pg. any worker knocking on the door. he was wearing a ski mask and skyler says her grandmother didn't trust him. she went to the backyard, trying to get away. but that's when 2 other men hopped the what happened next is? >> she tried to escape out the front door and that is there. you can see in the video footage. >> a man dressed as the pg e worker preventing her from leaving out the front door and you can hear her screams as they her. the reason barker

screams kind of cut out is because they choked her to prevent her from calling for help. the men ransacked the house kicking in this video. you can see them carrying her grandmother's things out of the home. they found my grandma safe where she was keeping her life savings. >> so all of her jewelry, all of her they made off for her entire life savings. skyler believes her grandmother was targeted because she is an older asian woman. >> easily overpowered by 3 men. but skyler believes her grandmother will recover from this. my grandmother, she's the most hard-working. she's the most resilient. >> strongest person i now and to see her being beat by these young men. >> it was. indescribable. amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> a san francisco city street now has a new name honoring a man whose death sparked the

nationwide movement against asian hate son or lane in the cities and the vista neighborhood will now be known as beech up a ton of pop the way city officials and activists including actor daniel dae. kim joined the return of pop the family at saturday ceremony. a 19 year-old has been charged with murder and elder abuse in connection with a ton of poppy's death. his family says they will continue to fight for equal rights for asian americans. coming up at 9.15, we will be joined in studio by the show's daughter to talk about the significance of this street. renaming her father and crimes against the aap i community. the police search continues this morning for the suspects involved in a pacifica high or rather carjacking. it happened in the area of humble court on friday night. officers say at least 2 people with guns robbed the victim of his car. according to police. one of the attackers fired multiple shots when it happened. the victim believes his attackers followed him. there were no physical injuries. in the east

bay. oakland police released photos of a suspected killer and his getaway car after a deadly shooting outside of a filipino restaurant. this man is accused of killing the co worker of lucky 3, 7 rest. co-owner, i should say of lucky 3, 7, restaurant in the fruitvale district. police say the victim was shot to death while leaving the restaurant with his son back on may 18th. the oakland police department released the license plate number of the car they believe is connected to this case. take a good look at your screen there. police say the car as a black 2009 ford escape with this license plate number. easy. t f 4, 7, 4, there is a reward for information that leads to an arrest. >> we will be coming back stronger coming back in a safe and supportive environment. and we're coming back. of course, most of all with the date care and support that we always provide.

>> bay area technology school staff released this video with a positive message for the campus community after wednesday's mass shooting in oakland on saturday. that school reopen temporarily allowing students to return and get any belongings they might have left behind. at least 2 gunman injured 6 people on the kings is state's campus wednesday. and that site does house 3 schools, including bay area technology, all schools on the campus will remain closed through next week. new this morning, firefighters in sandra fell contain a fire sparked saturday night. it happened off highway 101, near the north, san pedro exit. the fire was under control by 11. no injuries were reported. happening today. masks will no longer be required on ac transit. the alameda contra costa transit district is lifting its onboard mask mandate for the first time since early june. the district says the decision comes after a considerable drop in covid cases and hospitalizations in

recent weeks. bart dropped their mask mandate yesterday. meantime, both transit systems are still encouraging people to wear masks. and if you're thinking of hopping on bart this morning, you may want to plan ahead. bart says they will reduce train service to one track near the pleasant hill station. and this will cause 15 to 20 minute delays on the yellow line which travels from antioch to the sfo millbrae stations workers will fix damages to the railways after a partial derailment in the area that happened back in june. happening tomorrow, san francisco's annual fleet week is nearly upon us. and this event starts on monday. the city expects about a million people to visit san francisco over the course of the week. it started back in 1981 to honor the u.s. armed forces and educate the public about humanitarian aid, best practices. this event will include the usual parade of ships as well as the air show featuring the famous u.s. navy blue angels and the blue

>> for your money this morning, california is now seeing a steep drop in home prices. a new study by home insurance website. quote, wizard shows the average price of a home in california has gone down about $12,000. this is the sharpest drop of any state in the nation. san jose and san francisco saw the largest drop in the bay, quote, wizard reporting a 5.6% drop in san jose prices and a 2.9% drop in san francisco prices since june. united airlines officials announced the company is putting a rather cutting a dozen routes from its network. sfo will be affected. united is cutting 4 routes from the air hub there and routes from los angeles, chicago and houston will also be affected by this knight. its plan comes amid reports of a pilot shortage affecting the airline industry.

the golden gate bridge. this beautiful morning. >> maybe a little bit foggy out there. otherwise i'm expecting some hearing that conditions are going to be clearing up right they will or, you know, the clouds. the marine layer is awfully thick. we don't have the other shot of the golden gate bridge shows the flag and all its not flapping. and also how much of a breeze going on yet. >> but on tap, it looks like a pretty good sunday. you know, if you want to flavor fall, we've got it. and if you're one of those folks like to hold on to some are a bit. we have a longer range forecast as well. here's another bay shot for you, east bay shoreline, overcast sky conditions in place that marine layer go ghost several 1000 feet up in the atmosphere. but boy, there's a cliff and boyd drops off that typical inversion. so once the sun gets the motion going on here at the lower levels of the atmosphere that we get this fog mixed out in funding. going to the clear when you see it from the fog, castro from the futurecast up

standpoint, there clears out this afternoon. we do the same thing again tomorrow morning spilling into the sacramento and the central valley's for the early morning hours. as you can take an oath there. so we'll start off with overcast yet again. but temperatures are increasing each day as we get into the new week. lower 60's over most of the with this cloud cover marine layer spilling in like this really '% been a nice climate control. and you can see a lot of universality with these temperatures holding in the lower 60's like that. so microclimates are not as a parent slow clearing today, we'll call it mild and those temperatures 70's for the bay 80's ish inland. now we do see the numbers start to get we get the middle of the week to the lower 90's and thursday, friday looks like a little flavor of some are coming back. just a touch until we back off again into next weekend. their success of systems to kind of look out for a little bit. but most of the traffic is around us. not real close to home. 67 verbal clouds for san francisco in mild open. put us down for 70 76 for san jose does look to

be on the big map that will see a couple of 80's pop here and there. but it's all different up here in the north bay with santa rosa at 66 9, 77 for bottle. 67 san francisco and 76 for san jose. of course we'll have the 4 zone forecast for you coming up in a bit. also 2 in the tropics, the west coast of mexico. this a hurricane is really pop to a big one will be talking about that as well. stephanie, thanks very much, dave. >> lanes are back open this morning after a crash led to road closures in walnut creek. police shut down part of the intersection in north california of north carolina boulevard and civic drive. this happened shortly after 7 last night about 7 or rather 4 blocks south of the walnut creek, bart station. one person was injured. a witness says they saw good samaritans pulling a woman onto the sidewalk. no word yet on her condition this morning. stockton police are urging people to be on high alert. they say a series of recent killings are now believed to

be connected. police say they are looking at 5 homicides stretching back to june. and this is the only image of a possible suspect. investigators say the killings happened in the middle of the night in parts of town with poor lighting and no cameras. all of the victims were men between the ages of 21 54 police are urging stockton residents to be vigilant and to have good situational awareness when they're outside. there is a reward of up to $85,000 for information leading up to an arrest. happening tomorrow, the supreme court starts here. in new cases. the justices so to make decisions on a number of impactful issues on the list, whether colleges can consider an applicant's race in the admissions process. the issue of same couples is also on the table to determine whether free right, free speech, free speech rights outweigh state's anti-discrimination laws that prevents businesses from excluding certain customers.

this will also be ketanji brown jackson's first time serving on the bench for the supreme court since being confirmed back in april. a federal agency has given a texas oil company approval to repair a pipeline that ruptured last year off the coast of huntington beach in southern california. that rupture spill. tens of thousands of gallons of crude oil. the houston company amplify energy crop has pleaded guilty to charges of negligently discharging oil. the spill last october closed miles of beaches, enclosed fisheries for months. environmentalists want the repair operation off huntington beach to be shut down. they are criticizing the permit for the repair and calling for offshore drilling to drilling to be phased out. for your help this morning, experts say it's too early to know if the new covid variants will spread as widely as the highly infectious delta and omicron variants white house medical advisor anthony fauci said one of the new variants looks, quote, suspicious and

might evolve into something troublesome this fall. his concern is that current vaccines will not recognize the new variant and ward off infection. researchers in the uk say they're on the verge of potential cans of a potential cancer breakthrough. they say they've finally discovered how tumors can hijack healthy cells to spread around the body. the team at the cambridge institute discovered a protein that is a main driver of this process which could be targeted and stopped when they buy the right drugs. the findings are published in the journal nature genetics. happening today. there will be a free cancer screening in san mateo. it will be part of the pink patch party, a cancer awareness and fundraising community event. the event runs from 11 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon at the barnes and noble parking lot at the hillsdale mall. there will be live music, food, health resources, raffles and much more. and in this morning's dine and dish kron vicki liviakis explores the

injury thursday night. this came just 4 days after the quarterback left the game against the buffalo bills last sunday. also following an apparent head injury. now, these are pictures of him. you're looking at now walking off the field after that incident. he was evaluated by the team doctor and an independent neurotrauma consultant and allowed to return to the game. then following a hit on thursday night, the quarterback slammed his head on the ground. his hand freezing up and he laid on the ground for several minutes. as you can see there until he was taken away on a stretcher. he was taken to the hospital and released a few hours later. no word yet on when he will be cleared to play again. we've also learned that the nfl players association has fired the independent neurotrauma consultant who evaluated him after the first injury last sunday, the nfl and the players association are still investigating the incident. another big story we're following out of the nfl. the league announcing yesterday they are now considering changes.

>> good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news start off this tower with a look at our forecast. we have dave sphar, the weather center with the very latest. hey, dave, stephanie, good morning. and good morning, everybody. despite the fact of kind of overcast sky conditions, we do have a lot of ground fog going on there go. we don't. >> have any delays happening at sfo. that's a plus, at least. but this overcast and lots of fog clouds hanging around. that's going keep those temperatures down a bit today. here's the shot from sfo, overcast. but again, no delays to report for this morning. this has been a nice climate control overnight, however, and you can see the universality of those temperatures pretty much lower 60's despite the location here, coming into the chilly 57 by comparison. also, 58%, carlos, but a lot of lower 60's off towards the east bay. those winds have been mostly

out of the on shore direction. they're going continue that way to the next several days, despite the fact that we do have a little warming at hand here at the ballpark doing battle against the diamondbacks game time 105. but with this extra cloud cover that's going to keep temperatures down. even in the afternoon. lower 60's at that, you throw a little wind in their lot of cloud cover hanging around a little chilly may want to dress up more. so then perhaps you did from yesterday. the breakdown today, 67 for those in locations by 11 by 2. we'll call it 75. and we do see a warming trend the next couple of days. your extended. coming up, we'll take the 4 zone look and also a new hurricane along the west coast of mexico to keep an eye on. i'll have that. stephanie, thanks very much. dave. >> a big story out of the east bay this morning. hundreds of cars were found vandalized in alameda. police say a man is in custody tonight or rather this morning. but the victims are now left having to cover those costly repairs. kron four's philippe djegal explains. >> a rude awakening for buck

to test 2 and up to 200 other people in alameda saturday. this crazy palomino police say a man has been arrested for slashing the tires on up to 200 cars on the island sometime between 9, 30 11 o'clock friday night. dozens of them at the summer house apartments complex where test were supposed to be out of work early in the morning. but we do that instead like everyone else. he spent the day on the phone with his insurance company and working to replace 3 damage. tires, just replace them. it's 100 a $26. >> last have their coast cook. they said that this is been that kind of blesses? so it's out of your pocket. >> is all the more time with my officers had to respond to every report of vandalism and the most telling is busy picking up and dropping off to cars all day. it was just senseless. it really was senseless. neighbors who were spared the vandalism feel for those victimize for what you know.

>> a night in jail a night in jail. and that's it. that's all he gets is a night in jail and everybody. as you know, property damage and >> so police say surveillance video helped lead to the suspect's arrest in alameda philippe djegal all kron. 4 news >> one person is dead and a second person critically injured after getting hit by a car while walking in a marked crosswalk in burlingame. it happened just after 10, 30 friday night at the intersection of california and oak grove avenues. police say the preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the car initially fled the scene. but later returned and is cooperating with the investigation. the driver is expected to face felony hit and run charges. in the south bay. a man was arrested saturday afternoon as fresno home for a shooting death of a woman in san jose friday night. according to police, the woman was found dead in her car with at least one gunshot wound on the 500 block of almaden expressway. the suspect has not been

identified was taken into custody by the fresno county gang task force and will be brought back to san jose. this marks the 28th homicide in san jose. so far this year. take a look at this. according to sam public police, a car went over a wall and landed in the jack in the box drive through there. when officers arrived on scene, they found the car hanging over the wall with a passenger and driver still inside. neither of them incredibly were injured. emergency crews were able to safely remove the car from this collision area. here and vandalism at a roman catholic center in palo alto is being investigated as a hate crime. the vandalism is believed to have happened between september 18th and the 24 someone spray painted a racist phrase on a wall and apparently also spray painted a statue of the center's garden. the vandalism was removed by police in. they were told what happened in the center serves as the administrative office for 3 roman catholic church is in palo alto. you. body camera

video capturing florida deputies rescuing a woman whose car was swept away by strong flood waters. dramatic footage here. the deputies formed a human chain, as you can see there and they used a rope to venture into 10 foot, deep rushing water to save the woman. this after hurricane ian batter, the southwest coast of florida. meantime, fort myers, florida, is now on the road to rebuilding after being hit by what's estimated to be one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the u.s. brooke shafer has the latest for us. >> we're following officials in florida have said hurricane ian unleash some of its worst destruction on fort myers beach shops, restaurants and homes leveled. surgery. didn't think newsnation. one of the only media outlet allowed on

the beach. we got our first look at the devastation and the search for survivors. fire members of florida's task force to looking for people still trapped in their homes. some made it out of the storm alive. sorrow said. >> unbelievable >> others weren't so lucky saw on this block alone. search and rescue found 2 people. firefighters told us it looks like they died hiding in a bathroom. the total number of deaths still hasn't been confirmed. >> the intense wind and storm surge didn't just level homes on fort myers beach, the rushing water lifted some homes right off of their foundation and hurled them across the street posing another challenge for search and rescue teams. one of the challenges we've been having is located where these house so we'll see in the map of the structure supposed to be here

much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it is sunday october. the second start things off with a check on the weather with dave spahr. hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. kind of overcast greets us today as the fog is covering a good chunk of the bay. first things. first with the stratus keeping those temperatures down. but if you get high enough in the atmosphere, breaks right off. and so we have nice clear skies waiting for us above. once we get some mixing going on. but here's the overcast position on the east bay shoreline will look to some scattered clouds going on at this location but inland, it should turn mostly sunny, giving it over to fog cast. you can see it kind of breaks up real quickly. and the late morning hours returning yet again for tomorrow morning. this is not going to impact the temperatures as much as we get into early next week as we're looking for a little bit of a warming trend. but one of the things this marine layer did is really kept those temperatures very uniform across the region. look at that. you are to believe our typical microclimates not checking in this time around 60 u.s. lower 60's as what we've got going on. some upper

first, but so keep some scattered clouds in there for the bay and along the coast. but a sweet kind of fall like feel to our forecast for this weekend. little warming up happening in the next week. sfo. no delays happening out here. so even with the overcast lower 60's cover most of the bay for right now, it's going to be slow going all this morning because of the cloud cover kind of robbing us of the heating we would normally get. plus, there's some energy has to be used for the mixing process onshore wind. you can see pretty much single digits and that's the direction we want to keep them. and they will probably do so for most of the week there. so no dangers of offshore wind event here. 105, a game time for the diamondbacks to do battle against the hometown giants variable clouds in the forecast, though, still chilly. you throw wind in there. so it's a little chillier than it was from yesterday. the breakdown today, 70 at high noon at 3 o'clock. we're talking 76, we may top off at 80 in some locations. a lot more. those expected into next week. a little bit more in your 4 zone forecast in just a bit. 70. all right. thanks very much,

dave. >> a big story out of the east bay this morning. hundreds of cars were found vandalized in alameda. police say a man is in custody, but their victims are now having left are now left having to cover some pretty costly repairs. kron four's philippe djegal explains. >> a rude awakening for buck to test 2 and up to 200 other people in alameda saturday. this crazy palomino police say a man has been arrested for slashing the tires on up to 200 cars on the island sometime between 9, 30 11 o'clock friday night. dozens of them at the summer house apartments complex where test were supposed to be out of work early in the morning. but we do that instead like everyone else. he spent the day on the phone with his insurance company and working to replace 3 damage. tires, just replace them. it's 100 a >> last month. have their coast cook. they said that this is been doesn't that kind of blesses? so it's out of

and run charges. in the south bay. a man was arrested saturday afternoon at his fresno home for the shooting death of a woman in san jose friday night. according to police, the woman was found dead in her car with at least one gunshot wound on the 4, 5, 100 block of almaden expressway the suspect who has not been identified was taken into custody by the fresno county gang task force and will be brought that to san jose. this marks the 28th homicide in san jose so far this year. take a look at this. according to san pablo police, a car went over a wall and landed in the jack in the box drive-thru when officers arrived on scene, they located the car hanging over the wall with a driver and passenger still inside. neither of them were injured and emergency crews were able to safely remove the car from the wall. vandalism at a roman catholic center in palo alto is being investigated as a hate crime. the vandalism is believed to

and the benefits are is that 30 per they can be reduced their risk of death lower their risk of death from all causes by 30% by running these 5 minutes. then also 40 pipe for 45% lower risk of death from heart disease. so this is really significant. so a lot of this you know, i don't have time to run 30 minutes or an hour or do any kind of exercise for that long. but by knowing you can then have some benefits by des running for 5 minutes can be a game changer. that is really, really interesting. and good news for me because i've never been a long distance running. i think 5 units excuse. but for me. >> by the way, i'm trying to shake this cough parents. if we have time, i'd love your health tips on that. okay. so we talk about health benefits from running how to unhealthy runners compared to unhealthy non runners. >> so they did look at they

were comparing apples to apples. so they looked at unhealthy runners and these are people with they were either obese. they had diabetes or they are smokers and they compared them to non runners with those staying risk factors. and they found that those that ran still had the more the benefits they lived longer. so the thing is what they are finding is that those that are running even those 5 minutes, they live to 3 years longer than the 9 runners. >> and, you know, does the speed at which somebody runs in the frequency that they do it at? does that matter? >> when they found that they looked at how long, how far, how freak wind, how fast people run. >> but they didn't seem to make any difference that the benefits were the same. so looking at the these the screen here running slower than 6 miles an now, straight

past. >> but you can dog, you don't have to run that fast. i'm running less than 6 miles per week was significant running less than 51 minutes per week. which translates to about 5 to 10 minutes. and then running only one to 2 days per week. so you don't have to run fast. you don't have to run far that you can take your time and just went for those type minutes. and so what's the key here to gain the most health benefits coming out of the study? >> you want to first you want to make sure you check with your doctor. always. you know, i always suggest if you have any risk factors, you want to make sure that you're safe to run and it's real important to transition. you know, don't go out if you've been in active and it may be you're carrying some extra weight. don't just go out and run transition your way to running base. start out walking because you don't want to get injured. so that's a

10 last night when officers arrived on scene, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. 2 of those injured died at the scene. the condition of the other 2 victims is unknown at this time. but we are working to get more information for you on the peninsula. an elderly woman is robbed in broad daylight outside of her daily city. home security video shows one of the attackers dressed as a utility worker kron four's. amanda hari spoke with the victim's family. >> what started as a typical wednesday morning for this grandmother watering her flowers quickly turned into one the scariest moments of her life. the woman's granddaughter schuyler says the family is worried about their safety. she asked us not to reveal the family's last name security video shows this white kia pulling up to the home. then 10 minutes later, a man identifies himself as a pg. any worker knocking on the door. he was wearing a ski mask and skyler says her

grandmother will recover from this. my grandmother, she's the most hard-working. she's the most resilient. >> strongest person i now and to see her being beat by these young man. >> it was. indescribable. amanda hari kron, 4 news. >> th police search continues this morning for the suspects involved in a pacific. a carjacking. it happened in the area of humble court on friday night. officers say at least 2 people with guns robbed the victim of his car. according to police, one of the attackers fired multiple shots when it happened. the victim believes his attackers followed him. there were no physical injuries. in the east bay. oakland police released photos of a suspected killer and his getaway car after a deadly shooting outside of a filipino restaurant. this man is accused of killing the co-owner of lucky 3, 7, restaurant in the fruitvale district. police say the victim was shot to death while leaving the restaurant with his son back on may 18th. the

through next week. new this morning, firefighters in sandra fell have contained a fire that sparked saturday night. it happened off of highway 101, near the north, san pedro exit. the fire was under control by 11:00pm. no injuries were reported. happening today. masks are no longer required on ac transit. the alameda contra costa transit system is lifting its mask mandate for the first time since early june. the district says the decision comes after a considerable drop in covid cases and hospitalizations in recent weeks. barr drop their mask mandate yesterday. meantime, both transit systems are still encouraging people to wear their masks. and if you're thinking of hopping on park this morning, you might want to plan ahead. bart says they will reduce transer vista one track near the pleasant hill station. this will cause 15 to 20 minute delays on the yellow line which travels from antioch to the sfo millbrae stations workers will fix damages to the railways after

happened just after 10, 30 friday night at the intersection of california and oak grove avenues. police say the preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the car initially fled the scene. but later returned and is cooperating with the investigation. the driver is expected to face felony hit and run charges. in the south bay. a man was arrested saturday afternoon at his fresno home for the shooting death of a woman in san jose friday night. according to police, the woman was found dead in her car with at least one gunshot wound on the 500 block of almaden expressway. the suspect has not been identified was taken into custody by the fresno county gang task force. and we will be brought back to san jose. this marks the 28th homicide in san jose so far this year. in lanes back open this morning after a crash led to road closures in walnut creek. police shut down part of the intersection of north carolina boulevard and civic drive. this happened shortly after 7 last night about 4 blocks

south of the walnut creek, bart station. one person was injured. a witness says they saw good samaritans pulling a woman onto the sidewalk. no word yet on her condition this morning. stockton police are urging people to be on high alert today. investigators say a recent series of killings are now believed to be connected. police say they are looking at 5 homicides track and stretching back to june. and this is the only image of the possible suspect. investigators say the killings happened in the middle of the night in parts of town with poor lighting and no cameras. all of the victims were men between the ages of 21 54 police are urging stockton residents to be vigilant and to have good situational awareness. so be aware of your surroundings when you're outdoors. there's a reward of up to $85,000 for any information leading up to an arrest. take a look at this. according to sam public police, a car went over a wall
