>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> hey, good morning. and thank you so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie land. it is sunday october the 23rd and we're covering a lot of news for you this morning. it start off with a look at the weather with dave sphar. good morning, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. clear skies to start things off yet with some of that dry air already filtering in. we don't see much intrusion going on with fog today. we won't either tomorrow as we take a little bit of a break from all of this. >> with this offshore wind program that we've been talking about today. you really start feeling it too. there's a look at half moon bay. you can see pretty much clear skies to get things started. that's going to be

the case all over the bay may be living intrusion into some high cloudiness. here's a quick snapshot of those winds. they're kind of variable right now. a little bit on shore as you see the coast and then mean, well, inland, they're kind of coming in from the southeast a little bit. so variable for now. but it's dry enough to allow those temperatures to fall. also post the front look at the numbers. we've got 40's on the board, some 50's hanging on here and there. so it's a little chilly inland, not your imagination. 43 off to livermore in. 46 for conquered. by the way, contrast this more than a dozen degrees behind yesterday in cases picking up there around the carquinez strait, hayward, 14 degrees behind and even a dozen degrees behind for san jose. the breakdown today again, plenty of sunshine expected as temperatures struggle through the upper 60's and yes, a stronger offshore wind in the making. fire weather watch has been canceled. we'll get more into that coming up in a bit. stephanie. >> thanks very much, dave. there's new developments in the story of that car buried in the yard of a 15 million dollar mansion on the

peninsula. we've learned that mercedes-benz has been removed from the home as part of the police investigation. kron four's gayle ong reports from adderton where this mystery is attracting visitors from all over. >> the car has been removed from the home, presumably to be studied at a crime lab. in the meantime, people have been stopping by here just to get a glimpse. >> we just want i want to get amazing that a whole car was buried. >> and the ground and that's why stand. perkins drove from san francisco to stockbridge ave in atherton saturday afternoon. my wife and i was like let's now to has a tendency exactly was going on out there. >> it was quiet outside the home, but it was a different feet on friday. >> the dav or dogs brought in so far no human remains have been discovered. police said the mateo county crime lab spent the last 2 days working to unravel a mystery. how this mercedes-benz discovered by landscapers ended up buried in the backyard of this

15 million dollar estate mean i've yet to see the picks it up. the kind been assuming it's a nice one out. that's why all the way that i would very light. >> according to police, the mercedes in question, a convertible sports car was reported stolen in 1992. >> police say the current homeowners did not own the home at the time. real estate records indicate the home was owned by johnny lew from 1994 to 2014. the move to washington state and has since died. officials say lou had years of trouble with the law, lewis convicted of murdering a woman in the 60's, but the conviction was tossed on appeal. he was also arrested in 1999 for trying to hire people to sink a yacht for insurance money. that yacht also reported stolen by lou. lou has not yet been tied to the car buried in the backyard. but the mystery now the talk of the town and really looking forward to, you know. >> know the details about the news that don't know. i don't know what to think. >> it's very, very strange. >> and i spoke to the daughter of the former owner of the home johnny lew. she declined to comment. police say there

will be an update on this case on monday. reporting from after than gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> in the north bay, police are investigating a possible attempted kidnapping of a 12 year-old girl in petaluma. the parents of the girl filed the report early thursday. the victim says the man got out of a white man and grabbed her near mckinley elementary school on ellis street. she described the van is having several dense on it. black rams tinted windows in a derogatory word spray painted in black on the passenger side door. no arrests have been made yet. one person is dead after a boating accident in sonoma county. crews say an inflatable boat capsized off the coast of salt point state park friday afternoon. 3 people ended up in the water. only 2 made it back to shore. helicopter rescue crews spotted the body of the 3rd person trapped underneath a large rock that victim a 60 year-old died at the scene. we have new video from alameda county firefighters of a rescue that happened in

newark. check this out. crews say they found one person trapped in a car after a crash happened on valentine. drive. rescue crews got that person out by using hydraulic cutters and other special equipment the cause of the collision is under investigation this morning. and pg e is warning north bay residents of potential power outages. wind gusts could reach up to 30 miles per hour today. kron four's amanda hari brings us guidance from a bay area. fire marshal. >> i spoke with the santa rosa fire marshal and he says this is the first big wind event of the year and he wants people to be aware and prepared. >> high winds across the bay area more on the way sunday. the bay area national weather service is forecasting wind gusts more than 30 miles per hour in san francisco and half moon bay in santa rosa. it's predicted to be about 27 miles per hour. and firefighters are concerned. >> for with the increase in wind speeds. the lowering

lowering of humidities, as well as the drying of fuels, sort of mean wildfire could rapidly spread under conditions like this. santa rosa fire marshal paul lowenthal says with the vegetation being so dry. >> they're concerned with fires pushing down the north bay hills. they're asking people to avoid any activities that could spark a wildfire like bonfires and to secure any loose items that can blow away like halloween decorations. you don't want those to get blown out into the street. >> off properties are potentially in the power lines and power could become an issue in more ways than one. >> pg and e put out a warning that these wind gusts could cause some power shut offs for safety reasons. >> to about 5800 customers through monday in our area's sonoma and napa counties could be affected specifically north of calistoga along highway 29. >> calistoga fire will be giving out grab and go bags at the station on sunday from 8 to 5. that includes a battery

phone charger, water, snacks and a blanket for any customers impacted by the outages. >> and that was amanda hari reporting for us this morning. take a look at i love the side of this folks in the sierra woke up to some snowfall. look at that. it slowed down a little bit as you can see that snow there goes. now it's falling at its normal speed. there. and the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab tweeted several videos yesterday posting this fantastic winter wonderland. it's all natural snow there. according to the natural or at rather national weather service. this weekend's cold front in the region is bringing gusty winds, much colder. temperatures, rain and snow. and we would just love to see that we certainly could use more snow in our state of california. all right. turns out nobody won the powerball jackpot last night while quam. the jackpot is now up to 610 million dollars. if you win the cash, it will be roughly 292.6 million dollars.

>> all right. you might want to get started on your holiday shopping just a bit earlier this year, concerns over a national rail strike are increasing as demands by the 3rd largest rail union are rejected by some companies and this could create significant problems. and on an already strained supply chain and cost the u.s. economy up to 2 billion dollars a day. if that strike happens, the unions have involved in this have agreed to put off any potential strike until mid-november to provide some more time to negotiate. just a few weeks left there and conspiracy theorist. alex jones wants a new trial. he's asking a judge to throw out the nearly 1 billion dollar verdict against him earlier this month, a connecticut jury awarded families of the sandy hook shootings. those damages

>> morning to you. thank you so much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. >> taking a look outside over gorgeous san francisco this morning. >> beautiful shot. you can see the sun just starting to rise up behind that mountainside. there it while the sun is coming up, we are expecting some chilly weather today. dave. >> yeah, it's got a chilly conditions going on even this afternoon. you know, with all that sunshine and the dry conditions, the dry air is what's going to do in the morning hours. so maybe go to the legal test around here to do with the heater. that's make sure to operate. probably you folks inland, particularly going to feel that chill again tomorrow morning, clear skies happening at the coast. so that tells you just how dry

this air mass is. we're on the back side now of this cold front. let's get to those winds are kind of the start of the show for today. already offshore, as you can see that nice pocket up there and solano county drifting off to napa and a heavy clip, too. and we don't have any any wind advisories in addition to this, but they're coming off shore. the air is dry, not as hot as some time. some of these events are. but still, the concern is still there, elevated fire concerns. how the national weather service is calling this thing. no statements within that that extend beyond that point. as of now, here comes the shift. now more northwesterly as we start to get into monday afternoon by tuesday. i think that marine layer will start to respond. let's get to the moisture part of the program here. the humidity levels that fall off a cliff a little bit for today. again, temperatures will be cooler now temps in the dirt. one humidity is rather into the teens you can see for good chunk of the bay area way from water. but even around the coast is quite low. accept half moon bay hanging on there at 73, the recovery by tomorrow morning. very,

very weak as you will notice that allow temperatures to fall by tomorrow morning off again. we drop for monday afternoon. so any winds, no matter where they're coming from, will be negotiating through that dry air. there's the recovered. the marine layer by tuesday morning and we'll have kind of a decent fall like forecast for the week ahead with high temperatures in around 70. so today, mostly sunny, breezy, dry but cool 70's and 60's expected the fire weather watch we're talking about has been canceled. national weather service calls it somewhat of a borderline in terms of conditions. they said that the recent rains we've had over the last month has helped out. so these little nonsense, little rains. i don't do much except that your car dirty. they help out by getting at least the ground level, a little moist. and we have that actually on tap in our extended forecast for this week. cool, but dry to start 70's inland, a shower by saturday question mark. and that might be followed by yet another one. so maybe throw a little token, high cloudiness into the afternoon. but 68 per san francisco, 70 oakland, 68 1 for san jose wider geography

shows high temperatures only getting to the lower 70's coming up in a bit. of course, we'll have the 4 zone forecast for you, stephanie. thanks very much. dave. >> we're just about a week out skews me from the spookiest holiday of the year, which means the return of trick or treating and halloween gatherings for kids. and as the weather continues to call a new covid variants on the way the effort is now on to prevent the return of another winter surge. yikes. joining me live now to discuss is doctor david corn field, stanford children's health chief pulmonary pediatrician. good morning to you, doctor. good morning. thank you for having thanks so much for joining us. bright and early. you know, we're heading into the first of several big holidays over the coming months when it comes to halloween. what kind of safety practices should parents be? introducing for their young kids. >> but in addition to the usual practices to keep kids safe on halloween, i think you would be good to make sure the kids kind of trick or treat in

the same colbert's of groups. not keeping the numbers are small as possible. not exchanging with too many groups that that's possible. i think trick or treating outside. it's a really safe thing to undertake. if there's really concerns, kids wear masks as well. and i think as is the case every illness for children, if there's a vaccine available, that should be given to the kids. it's really the single best thing you can do that. keep your kids safe and fortunately there is a vaccine available for covid that kids are eligible for and that they should get. so i think those are some some clues that can be undertaken. >> and speaking of the obviously it is highly recommended to help slow the spread of covid. but also there's a bit of misinformation out there about the cdc is mandating the covid vaccine for school age children. could you help clarify for us? >> i'm not sure there's a mandate that anyone can mandate vaccines in this in

this way right now. but i think that there ought be a people who are worried about how their children are going do and everyone should be with respect to covid should get the vaccine they're safe. they vaccines have the. biggest amount of high quality data supporting their use of any intervention that we've undertaken in the history of medicine. i think that's an accurate statement. and so i say to my patients vaccines are the single greatest gift you can give your children. >> all right. and you're also flagging a respiratory virus that's affecting young children. so tell us a bit about that and how it spread. >> so respiratory virus rsv is it's called discovered in 1956. and 50% of all the children in the world get it in the first year of life. so it's very by the time kids are 3 years old. all kids across the world really have seen this virus. the problem that

we're having this here is that no one has been exchanging. the virus are getting it for the last couple 3 years. so we're being hit with a deluge of children who don't have immunity from the virus. we're being exposed to it for the first time and it's wreaking havoc, i believe, on our hospitals and children's hospitals across the country. there's a been a big flood inundation of children who've been admitted on the east coast and it's happening on the west coast as well with highs, census numbers of children's hospitals across the bay. >> ok, so this is our suvs and the name of the virus. one more time. >> it's respiratory syncytial virus. ok? for the most part, there's nothing to worry about for the most part, it's a common rite of passage for all children who get it virtually every child will see this virus at some point in the first 3 years of life, half all children get it by the time that one. >> and what are some of the symptoms that parents should be looking out for? and what's the best way to treat it? if

parents think that their kids might have it? >> our really supportive care and the kind of symptoms that we see it a runny nose. maybe read a reddish eyes, perhaps cough. it's the single biggest, a common feature and then really thick tenacious a nasal secretions and the single best thing you can do to make your children more comfortable. it's section their nose out. it's particularly a problem for the little ones. syringe is an excellent way to help take care of that. and for the most these are cold. last 3 to 7 days and kids do well with if you feel like your child is really getting ill, won't take any fluids is tremendously the and it's probably time to see a doctor. certainly time to see a doctor. last question here for you, doctor. any differences between covid-19 and rsv. >> there huge differences probably longer than we have

to talk about very different viruses. but the symptoms might be quite similar early on and especially for children so it's easy to mix the 2 up and the great thing is that we have vaccine against covid which will really mitigate the severity generally. our speed does not cause severe illness. generally covid does not cause severe illness in young children. so from the perspective of children were in great shape. ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and getting a vaccine for covid would be a great thing. i also recommend that people get a vaccine for influenza for their children that's approved for kids. 6 months of age and older. and it is likely going to be a reallf significant influenza season as well for the same reasons that i mentioned earlier, folks are now interacting down and exchanging viruses and this is part of humanity and we're in the middle of a big natural biological experiment.

additional cooling. so keep that in mind for tonight. tomorrow morning could be another chilly one for you, folks picky well inland away from water, but plenty of 40's on the board here. 51 going on for oakland. 54 for antioch and 54 santa rosa nevado also holding on to 50 for everybody else into the 40's, though, as you will note, the temperature contrast to 24 hours ago in some locations, a dozen or more degrees behind. it won't be so great tomorrow, but another chilly one expected again with the dry air clear skies and we have kind of a mixed bag of those winds, variable winds. they are at this current hour a little bit on shore, as you can see near the coast. but meanwhile, they're coming in from the southeast to the east. expect them to all pretty much be shifting out of the north as the day wears on the breakdown for you today about 60 at 11 by 2. we're talking 68. we do have about, though, in the longer range forecast to see in a couple shots of rain will have that coming up for you in just a bit. stephanie. all right. thanks a lot, dave. >> in the east bay, there's fewer guns on the streets of pittsburgh this morning. the police department there

holding its first gun buyback event in 6 years as kron four's philippe learned the police department hopes to make this an annual event. >> the pittsburgh police department has been escalating its efforts to crack down on gun violence since the removal campaign was ultimately more than 100 guns being taken off the streets and that combined with more than 125 fire has residents turned in anonymously at city hall saturday. fewer guns are now in fewer hands. so in our community right now. >> if you add are then campaign over the summer. plus today's event that's over 200 guns off the street. so i think that's huge for our community here. councilmember chanel skills, preston was born and raised in pittsburgh and says the city has come a long way when it comes to gun violence, she was disturbed by last week's shooting, a block away from saturday's event which left a mother and her 8 year-old son wounded by gunfire. >> both are expected to

survive. >> and the suspect has been arrested. that just shows the importance. >> you know, having guns laying around the house old, anyone can get a hold of them and we don't know what they're doing with the mountain community. this is the first time the police department has held one of these events since 2016. they should really do it more often. corey turned in an inherited rifle. she didn't even know she had until she recently did a little around the house. >> the department handed out gift cards ranging from 50 to $200 depending on the type of firearm. so you concerned about gun violence i mean, who wouldn't be at least she can sleep easier tonight, knowing that, right? will never hurt anyone. all firearms collected by the police department will be destroyed in pittsburgh. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> starting tomorrow, masks are no longer required on stanford campuses and shuttles school. officials say this is because of the low level of covid-19 cases on campus and in the surrounding areas.

santa rosa officials meet on tuesday to discuss a new sideshow ordinance. if passed, that measure would give police the ability to arrest or site. everyone involved at sideshows. that includes people driving the cars. the passengers people watching from the street and organizers if approved, the ordinance will go into effect november. 25th. and kron 4 is your local election headquarters. here we go. well today, governor gavin newsom and republican candidate for governor senator

and the decisive role it could play in several swing states this year. >> the historic level of early voting ahead of this midterm by millions across the country doesn't come without some controversy and confusion as courts step in state by state to try to work it out. the pennsylvania supreme court made 2 big decisions friday, one ruling that counties can send ballots with errors like missing signatures. back to the voter to correct it rather than throwing the ballot away. >> and to the state's highest court will accept the case to decide of ballots returned with a signature. but without the proper date should be disqualified or counted. republicans pushing for disqualification. democrats want them to count in virginia. republican governor glenn youngkin used his executive power to restore 800 convicted felons rights to

vote. a stark contrast to where some former felons were shocked to learn in august. they were being arrested for having voted after being allowed to register with no problem. a result of florida's voting law championed by governor ron desantis. this week a judge dismissed one of those cases, desantis office says de la piel. meantime, confusion in new york after a state judge ruled that covid fears are no longer a justifiable reason to request an absentee ballot. she ordered election officials to immediately stop counting all absentee ballots given out for that reason until an appeal is heard. and in delaware, the state supreme court ruled the state's new law allowing universal vote by mail and same day registration violate delaware's constitution. both rulings, big wins for republicans. over to the southwest trouble in arizona and error and registering voters cost around 1000 people

to receive ballots without local elections on them. secretary of state katie hobbs whos running for governor says the problem is being corrected and only affects a quarter of one percent of voters. hobbs office is also dealing with allegations that some so-called voter fraud hunters have been harassing voters who show up and ballot drop boxes falsely accusing innocent people of being ballot mules. taking pictures of those victims and their license plates. all right. tomorrow is the deadline to register to vote by mail in contra costa county. >> note that you can still register after monday, but you have to do so in person you can sign up online or fill out a voter registration card to register. those cards can be city halls, libraries and post offices in the county registration cards must be postmarked by tomorrow. so keep that in mind. lots of restaurants are having a hard time finding cooks and wait staff but not here. >> the hired help isn't even

under conditions like this. santa rosa fire marshal paul lowenthal says with the vegetation being so dry. >> they're concerned with fires pushing down the north bay hills. they're asking people to avoid any activities that could spark a wildfire like bonfires and to secure any loose items that can blow away like halloween decorations. you don't want those to get blown out into the street off properties are potentially in the power lines and power could become an issue in more ways than one pg. and e put out a warning that these wind gusts could cause some power shut offs for safety reasons to about 5800 customers through monday in our area's sonoma and napa counties could be affected specifically north of calistoga along highway 29. >> calistoga fire will be giving out grab and go bags at the station on sunday from 8 to 5. that includes a battery phone charger, water, snacks and a blanket for any customers impacted by the outages.

pennsylvania supreme court made 2 big decisions friday, one ruling that counties can send ballots with errors like missing signatures. back to the voter to correct it rather than throwing the ballot away. and to the state's highest court will accept the case to decide of ballots returned with a signature. but without the proper date should be disqualified or counted. republicans pushing for disqualification. democrats want them to count in virginia. republican governor glenn youngkin used his executive power to restore 800 convicted felons rights to vote. a stark contrast to where some former felons were shocked to learn in august. they were being arrested for having voted after being allowed to register with no problem. a result of florida's voting law championed by governor ron desantis. this week a judge dismissed one of those cases, desantis office says de la piel. meantime, confusion in new york after a state judge ruled that covid

fears are no longer a justifiable reason to request an absentee ballot. she ordered election officials to immediately stop counting all absentee ballots given out for that reason until an appeal is heard. and in delaware, the state supreme court ruled the state's new law allowing universal vote by mail and same day registration violate delaware's constitution. both rulings, big wins for republicans. over to the southwest trouble in arizona and error and registering voters cost around 1000 people to receive ballots without local elections on them. secretary of state katie hobbs whos running for governor says the problem is being corrected and only affects a quarter of one percent of voters. hobbs office is also dealing with allegations that some so-called voter fraud hunters have been harassing voters who show up and ballot drop boxes falsely accusing innocent people of being ballot mules. taking pictures of those victims and their license

lauren, for being here with us and for your hard work. thank you so much. you know, how does it feel? first of all, to get recognized, you have any idea. well, it was a surprise to be honored at the school level and the district level and then came the county level. and that was shocking in california was a really nice surprise. and it's a huge honor. >> in, you know, obviously we listed some of the things that they do look for when they're looking for educators to recognize. >> so clearly there's you know, there is something unique about your teaching style that students levin gravitate towards. so tell us what got you into teaching at what motivates you to head back to that classroom every single day. well, i have teaching in my i come from a line of professors, teachers, counselors and administrators. so i've always loved helping. >> i started tutoring at a young age and just saw the power that an individual can have to impact any other life and i took that and ran with it and really delved into how

it can be the best possible spanish teacher and now leadership teacher the end. obviously, you also taught during the pandemic as well. really have to recognize our teachers for the hard work that they put into helping so many students who that really tough. first couple of years and with the distance learning and then real person and then we're in pods. and then all of a sudden we're back and vote again. so you know what sort of strategies did you implement encourage students to keep coming back to class and feeling gauge with the material. well, distance learning was a huge challenge. i think it's a year that every teacher wants to block out of their memory. but we came out of it with some really great i think teachers had to completely rethink the way they taught how they connected with students. i think teachers gained a lot of skills and technology that they still use. and huge newfound newfound appreciation for connecting with students in person. so i see that now

teachers really taking the time to connect one-on-one with students and also students connecting with each other. they're just joyous being in the classroom. now. so it's really refreshing knowing that it was 2 years ago that we were online and now seeing how they're socially blossoming, emotionally blossoming is so wonderful to see. and there certainly is a reward to seeing everyone back in the classroom. again, just that in-person interaction just can't be beat. you know, speaking of that remote learning time, period, there were some new studies that recently came out showing, you know, there was some concern that students weren't testing as well because of the distance learning and just the trauma that happened during those earlier years of the pandemic. what sort of strategies do you recommend that parents also implement when they're working with their kids at home? if you feel like if they feel like their kids may might be having a hard time feeling caught up with the academic material. yeah, i love that. you mentioned parents because it really is a web of support.

based out of get us started. how many dogs are you currently supporting? we well, i got started because i was doing volunteer rescue for gold retriever rescue and i took it a little. >> not little. she was e 70 pound golden retriever named lily which you might have think she was an amazing girl. i i i was not on a track to start a senior dog rescue but sheet. that's that was her we had her for 4 months before she passed away. but she was just an exceptional dot. and you know, there's there's a need for rescue for large breed. senior dogs because they're the hardest to get adopted, particularly out of the we don't find that it's hard to get them adopted once we have them and they, you know, get the care and then and the medical care and the tlc that they need. and then people that are looking for senior dogs nowhere to come and they know they can come find one, you know, with us. he wanted i just have to also point out to how well behaved these 2 doggies are, you know,

me takes a look at mail-in voting and the decisive role it could play in several swing states this year. >> the historic level of early voting ahead of this midterm by millions across the country doesn't come without some controversy and confusion as courts step in state by state to try to work it out. the pennsylvania supreme court made 2 big decisions friday, one ruling that counties can send ballots with errors like missing signatures. back to the voter to correct it rather than throwing the ballot away. and to the state's highest court will accept the case to decide of ballots returned with a signature. but without the proper date should be disqualified or counted. republicans pushing for disqualification. democrats want them to count in virginia. republican governor glenn youngkin used his executive power to restore 800 convicted felons rights to vote. a stark contrast to

below, then we get to saturday gets more interesting with that chance of rain developing. hopefully and continuing into sunday, stephanie. all right. thank you very, very much, dave. >> for your health this morning, at least one child dies every 5 days from choking on food. candy accounts for almost 30% of choking episodes. and with halloween just around the corner, our health expert karen owoc is here with some tips on how to help keep snacking safe this holiday season. so i thank you so much for joining us this morning. karen, by stephanie. all right. so let's kick things off by talking about the most common choking hazards. okay. so. >> first of joking is the leading cause. one of the leading causes of ac.idental death in the world and children typically choke on. candy, as you mention, as well as meat products, meat bones. also, i'm dogs. that's a big one. and also small objects.

and let's not forget the adult sale dot also choke to and typically they took on food and it's due to several causes. so adults typically are they might be having a drinking a lot of alcohol so they might choke also, they tend to eat very fast. that could cause him to choke. also, they might have difficulty chewing. maybe they up. dentures and then if they have any kind of skeletal or and neurological diseases that might have trouble swallowing it, swallowing so they might alzheimer's or dementia are our parkinson's, type of things. and so what do you do when you see somebody experiencing a choking emergency? >> so number one, you need to know the heimlich maneuver for infants as well as adults and no cpr to because in case you can't get the object out being you'll have to initiate cpr.

but what i also recommend is everyone having what's called a life that can pay and i not affiliated with the company or anything, but i wholeheartedly endorse the product. >> so it an airway clearance device and it consists of a plunger. and then also amassed a have a mask for children as well as adults. and all you do is attach the mask to the plunging device. it doesn't have to go all the way in and then you and then you place the mask on the victim and make sure you get a really good seal and then just push down on the and then you get a real good seal. it up. they object the object may end up in here or in the mouth of the victims. so you'll need to roll the victim over and then clear they cleared them out. but it's really it's a really good device, especially if your loan is going to help you

what if you're in a it hard to give the heimlich or today the back blows on someone that's in a wheelchair or perhaps you're pregnant. so it's it's i highly recommend it. you can do it on someone that's laying down or sitting or standing. alright, life vac. very interesting. and walk us through some choking. >> prevention guidelines as well. things can just all do to prevent the choking from happening in the first place. >> yes, being very watchful of your children, make sure that they're sitting upright when they're eating and they're not walking playing or riding in a car while they're eating say really. and then number. the number one thing is to be prepared and know what to do because when you're in a crisis situation. you get very panicky and you want to be able to rely on your reflexes. so practice like if you have the life that practice to give you a practice mask practice,

what to do you think through the process what you're going to do in case this happens and also? let us know sort of just things to keep in mind when it comes to foods. >> maybe we want to avoid or keep away from younger children, things that might be a little bit more hazardous when it comes to accidently causing somebody to choke. >> right. so you want to avoid the the ground. those gummy gummy foods, especially if the child is under 3. so none of the little cute little gummy bears and then anything go. we're sticky. like carmel alert, happier the marshmallows, the nuts and seeds be where those as well as grapes lead to choke on a whole great. the popcorn dried fruits, not bettors, a and that better. you could do like a spread of nut butter a piece of toast, our present. and then hot dogs. you really have to be careful with hot dogs and the way you cut them in

and be very watchful when when your child is eating some of those states. and yeah, so maybe keep the caramel and the candy corn. >> out of the little trick or treat out of the the trick or treating experience, if you will. and people, you know, they're putting candy into the into the containers and things like that for the kids. that's really examine their what's in their their halloween bag. yeah. and what they get a hold because they can even get a hold of, you know, the candy wrapper in choke on the rapper's. so >> the and all those other little goodies that might be there to small little toys are marvels have to be really careful. and again, these little temps are also apply to adults. you know, some of those really sticky candies. if you have any kind of swallowing issues day. really careful. all right. some great advice this morning. i want to check out this life back thing. that's the first time i've seen one of those. but it seems like it could help save a life. thank you so much.

wayne. and this day was all about celebrating the service dogs and organizers even held a costume contest and the 2 dogs and that dragon costumes. you see there they were the winners and interesting thing also to note is that these 2 puppies are also deaf, but it looks like they follow direction well, and they were able to show off their costumes and a nice way. and they want ok quickly, stephanie, we still have elevated fire concerns, but we're really hoping at the end of the week, look next weekend, maybe bring some rain. showers may have radar for you next weekend. hope. >> all right. thanks very much for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. next week.
