even notice. and by tomorrow we'll go back to sunshine. first things first live shot going on here of some leftover fog from that last little bout of some predawn sprinkles. we'll take care of this in the next couple of hours going mostly clear. see this upstream here. this is going to be dropping south about the new sunset time in the late afternoon. almost 4, 5 o'clock or so dropping across the bay again might get a stray sprinkle. we can see the footprints of this as we go forward. little patches of fog here and they're left over from whatever we get during the overnight or early evening hours. temperature check for you. as sarah was talking about. we've got some upper 30's on the board. get used to it. there's more to come 40's elsewhere and don't expect a lot of movement today. we're actually little warmer by half a dozen degrees or better than we were this time from yesterday. the other element with that is besides of clear skies, we have a loft is calm winds and they're going remain that way. all the little bow to some offshore winds to make note of which will get into 55 at 11 by 2 talking 58 school afternoon as well as tomorrow

to mourn their winter forecasting a bit step. stephanie strikes sarah. >> thank you, dave. an antique and jewelry store in san francisco is back open after being forced to close for almost a year. reta and co on fillmore street was heavily damaged and that some priceless items stolen last december. now it's once again welcoming customers back in time. just in time for the holidays. kron four's dan thorn has the details. >> it's the same pineapple door, but a brand-new shop inside the antique and jewelry store on fillmore street looks a lot different than it did nearly a year ago. maybe a you can reading and co is john dream business. >> last december the store was covered in broken glass. >> and expensive jewelry was stripped from the shelves. readings on the floor, broken and destroyed. it was a heartbreaking time for the small business. but its owner wasted no time renovating. we left the store. >> we love a neighbor had let our customers. we have no interest in leaving. this is the place. so the place to be.

>> quillen and says it's been a tough few years for small businesses and it's disappointing to see the empty store fronts throughout the city. he's hoping by sharing their recovery. it inspire others to reopen or move in with the holidays. not far away. it would also be nice to see people return to his i think that customers so the shops to see. >> you know what the storm looks like now. so be very happily been here 40 years. yeah. either for it lose >> reporting in san francisco, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> a new development in the drama surrounding the man accused of attacking paul pelosi. the san francisco sheriff's office says that someone claiming to be an immigration and customs enforcement agent tried to visit david de-pap, but it turns out the person was an imposter. the unidentified person tried to get into the county jail on halloween 3 days after the attack. the person arrived at the jail with a business card, but no

government credentials to pap is a canadian national who's been living illegally in the u.s.. the visitor was denied entry and it's not clear yet if that person will face charges. and twitter has hit the pause button on its blue checkmark verification service after fake accounts started popping up. and now some experts are questioning if twitter will be able to even survive. kron four's dan kerman reports. >> friday, elan musk focused his anger on the media tweeting as twitter pursues the goal of elevating citizen journalism media elite will try everything to stop that from happening. mainstream media will still thrive but increased competition from citizens will cause them to be more accurate. but accuracy proved to be difficult to find on twitter as scores of users pass themselves off as elon musk, another fake accounts falsely suggested things like eli lilly was giving away insulin for free. twitter

responded by pausing its $8 blue check verification. but that was not enough for massachusetts senator ed markey who had a fake account set up in his name in a letter to musk, he said twitter had descended into the wild west of social media and said twitter must explain itself. he's done about everything wrong. i can think of >> alienated the employees. i got rid of all the management tech analyst rob and early says musk has also alienated users and advertisers which could put an end of the twitter platform altogether. he's got enough money to run through the end of the year. i the the i don't think twitter survive unless something major happens. i don't think twitter survives much beyond that is burning too much cash right now. and early says there's no sight that's equal to twitter, but its possible demise creates an opportunity. what musk has done is he's up and a huge opportunity for somebody to step in with something better because people are looking for something better. but it's got me well moderated. it's got to it's

got to be well equipped for crash. there are also reports friday that twitter sent an email to laid-off employees indicating their separation agreements had been delayed. labor lawyers who have already filed a class action lawsuit against musk alleging laid-off employees are not getting what they were promised are interested to see what's in those agreements but are encouraging workers to hold off on signing anything for now. our fear has been that elon musk would send. >> severance agreements to employees across the company and pressure them to sign off on quickly that they would release all claims against the company without even knowing that we have filed this case on their behalf. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> and happening today is the 32nd annual good guys get together. it's a weekend-long event that honors local first responders and and veterans and car culture lot going on there. and that's where we find kron four's camila barco live with more camila. what does it look like over there?

>> welcome back to this is a beautiful look of san francisco this morning. got some clouds above the city skyline and it is time for another weather check with meteorologist dave spahr is going to tell us if we're going to more cold temperatures today and tomorrow. >> good morning, sarah. good morning, everybody. and it's going to be a winter like week. it looks like up ahead. the only thing is going to be on the dry side of winter. we have a couple little wrinkles in before we get there throughout the weekend, which will walk through. but right now, half moon bay shot here, actually a little clearer picture that we're seeing across a lot of the bay here. some leftover fog to from that. a quick little spurt of some showers. predawn. we have 30's up here, the north bay, santa rosa. 37 lot of 40's across the breath of the bay. you know, water tends to hold

those support temperatures a little bit. so we didn't get as much cooling tonight as we did previously. the comparison numbers are a little bit more mild, although it's still chilly. start to our day. so here's we've got a future cast for going forward on balance today. pretty much mostly sunny. then we get to the late afternoon and this is getting close to sunset. anyway, another parse or package here of a few little widely scattered showers. more importantly, some scattered cloud cover with that kind of breaks up as it drops across the bay. but still keeping that mention in the forecast today showed earlier some leftover fog down to around the santa cruz mountains and the south bay to this will translate to mountain snows a bit with all of that. although no statements on shore with the winds will be a little bit northwesterly as well. but there's a pop that happens tomorrow in this little pocket here around solano county of offshore winds. this will happen tomorrow morning. it's very brief and there's actually a longer one early into next week. we're kind of watching. as of now, it doesn't look like it's posing any problems. we have some insulation from recent rains to give us some shielding from

and the offshore winds we get. but here it is. here's this next little batch of rain this weekend will develop maybe some sprinkles by the evening hours early evening at that by midnight, we should be clearing out across most of the bay for another good day. tomorrow. 59 san francisco, mostly sunny today, some lake clouds. we noted 60 for oakland, 60. meanwhile, 4 san jose even in the well inland spots here. temperatures only manage the lower 60's at best north bay, south bay, even off towards the east bay as well. we'll have more of that in your 4 zone forecast in a bit. stephanie or star. sorry, derr. it's all we're now less than 2 weeks away from the it's giving it. >> we've got here quickly as we head into the heart of the holiday season, food banks across the bay area. they're in need of all of our help. joining us now to discuss his barber abbott with the san francisco marine food bank. >> good morning, barbara. i know it's been a rough year and now the holidays are coming. tell us how big of a need you guys have right now.

>> yes, i'm currently in san francisco-marin were serving 56,000 families every week. and that about 12% from where we were last year. so the need is still growing. >> growing even from 2020. that's incredible to hear to tell us what we can do to help everyone at home, of course, wants to know how can i help? and they know there's a lot of ways you guys get help from people. >> the biggest way to help is with cash donation rate. now up until november 23rd a black crop is actually has a matching gifts. so your dollars go even further. at this point. >> well, that's good to hear. do need volunteers as well. >> so the that's another way to really help food banks by volunteering. you can go to s f m food bank dot org and sign up for a volunteer right up until the end of the year.

right now as we head into thanksgiving, especially christmas. i mean, when you're struggling to put regular dinner on the table and then you have the pressure of that holiday meal. it's really tough. >> yeah, it's tough right now. i mean, inflation is really hitting our families hard. the same cost increases that you see at the grocery store. our families are really feeling the cost of fuel. so the need is is is really great. this holiday season families. >> the cost of groceries has become extremely unaffordable. and does that become a struggle for the food bank as well as you look to get food from a lot of grocery stores. >> yeah, i mean, are the cost of the food that we purchase or is being donated. has a has nearly doubled this holiday season. >> yeah, that's incredible. we're all feeling that. but especially those who are already struggling day to day. thank you so much, barbara. if there's any tell anything else

>> developing story we're eta is expected to lay off more than 360 employees by early january at their san francisco office on howard street. that's according to the city supervisor. matt dorsey, dorsey says he received a notice under the warren act about the layoffs. he encourages those facing unemployment to browse the city government website. they have more than 4500 available jobs. layoffs are expected to hit the met office starting january 13th. and in the face

of declining revenue, disney executives have imposed a hiring freeze and may be considering job cuts. the entertainment company just reported disappointing quarterly earnings. disney's streaming services lost 1.4 billion dollars last quarter. more than doubled from last year. and the nonprofit is preparing veterans and their spouses for a career in tech and free. it's called in power. the program has classes and job training in 7 states, including right here in the bay area. kron four's ella sogomonian has the details. >> and power teaches a combination of tech training and certification for careers in it. cybersecurity and cloud computing. among other things. they also help graduates land jobs. it's a free course for 16 weeks and is available to veterans. their spouses and young adults from underserved communities, executive director of and power. chris starling is a marine corps veteran of 26 years. he served

>> good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. let's start this half hour on this saturday with the forecast. dave spahr is in the weather center with the latest. dave, what are we looking at? 7.30, this morning? well, good morning, sarah. good morning, everybody. and still some left over bay fog that we have after a little predawn shower at some pretty much clear aloft. so once we shake this off will go back into the mostly sunny sky mode. >> however, some afternoon cloud cover is expected to drop on in late today. it's probably around sunset or there shortly afterwards. 37 santa rosa really cold spot. >> elsewhere, pretty much 40's. don't forget that little bit of rain l actually help support temperatures a bit. and there go. we're a little warmer than we were this time from yesterday's really cold temperatures here by some half a dozen or more degrees. now, as we take a look at the satellite and the radar picture, there is this little second batch. this is happening by this evening or late this afternoon, depending on time perspective, say 4, 5,

6 o'clock this evening or so. the breakdown today keeps us mostly sunny for the balance of the day. once we shake off these morning clouds and fog up to about 60. yeah, that will be better if for highs will take a look. of course that 4 zone forecast and that dry extended coming our way to sarah. >> thank you, dave. now for your help. this morning. hospitals across the country are trying to keep up with the spike in rsv cases in children here in the bay area. children's hospital hospitals are also reporting an increase in cases kron four's rob nesbitt, talk to health experts on how it's affecting children's hospitals at stanford and ucsf. >> more and more parents are noticing a nasty cough with their little ones because of the mucus. an inflammation of the chest caused by rsv infectious disease expert at ucsf doctor peter chin-hong says an increase of cases have off children's hospital in oakland and san francisco has affected several areas of care. the maze, 0 vision care, physicians, offices,

pediatricians offices. >> on what's that's leading to some. >> potential consolations of elective surgeries and and visit at stanford university's packard children's hospital. it's a similar story. there certainly is a incidents of rsv infection. doctor david cornfield says parents will be concerned for their child's well-being. >> they should also know that rsv is the most common viral infection in children. 50% experiencing symptoms before their first birthday. the overwhelming majority of kids do very well with this infection. >> i'm having some cold symptoms. some running nose and relatively few of these children actually get hospitalized. when you think about all the kids that are infected, doctor chin-hong says rsv isn't just spread among kids, but that most deaths happened with those 65 and older. >> it's why he recommends taking some of the same precautions we've learned to do with covid wearing a mask around them. if they're not infected washing our hands like there's no tomorrow.

>> because those not important >> covid, they're really, really him reporting for our speed. >> pfizer is getting ready to submit an rsv vaccine to the fda. the vaccine will be given to women during pregnancy to reduce their child's risk of catching the virus. doctor chin-hong expects the vaccine will be ready in about a year reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> thank you, rob. a new cdc report says that in since 6 months and younger are being hospitalized with covid at higher rates than before the report focuses on the delta and omicron variants in babies, too young to be immunized. although more babies are being hospitalized, the percentage of severe cases is not increasing. doctor david cornfield at stanford children's health health says less severe cases is probably result when the mothers have been vaccinated. >> there's probably some component of passive immunity that moms who have been immunized give to their children and that likely will decrease the level of severity

for these kids. >> he says the hospitalizations likely boil down to the easing of covid measures. on the peninsula. police in daly city are looking for 2 men who they say stole about $10,000 worth of tobacco products off a delivery truck. the incident happened last saturday at 4 in the afternoon in front of a convenience store on gellert boulevard in near the in and out an employee told officers that while the delivery truck was in the parking lot, 2 men stole tobacco products straight out of the back of the truck and loaded into a blue infiniti suv. no arrests have been made. >> and kron 4 is your election headquarters as of this morning city council member matt mahan is the lead to be the next san jose mayor. the latest numbers show he has 51.4% of votes against santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez. she has 48.6%. >> currently mahan has nearly 4800 more votes than her.

there was. there are votes still left to be counted. so we'll have to see what happens. we'll keep you updated this morning as we learn more. the final results from this week's midterms will determine which party controls the house and will also likely affect the future of house speaker nancy pelosi. given the recent attack on her husband and a possible upset of power in the house. there's speculation on what she'll do next. pelosi has served as representative from sanford's from san francisco since 1987 and was reelected this week to another two-year term. but she's hinted that she might turn in her gavel if republicans win majority control. many expect her to retire. if that happens on capitol hill, some are speculating that pelosi will leave to focus on her family. she and her husband are both 82 years old. she has said in interviews that the attack on her husband, paul will be a factor in her decision. if pelosi does choose to retire, a special election would be held to find her replacement.

and this morning we're keeping an eye on the balance of power in washington senate democrats are now just one seat away from taking control of the senate. democrat mark kelly is now projected to win reelection in arizona. take a look at the numbers. this was a very tight race in a state democrats. they were able to slip in recent elections. senator kelly is winning the state with nearly 52% of the vote beating republican challenger blake masters who had the support of former president donald trump. that means all eyes this morning are on the where the republican nominee adam laxalt has lead of less than has a lead of less than a 900 votes over incumbent democrat catherine cortez masto. there are still tens of thousands of votes left to be counted. most of those are from clark county, which is a heavily democratic area. that's where las vegas is. if democrats are democrats can win this seat, they will could choke control the senate if republicans win

control of the senate will come down to a runoff election next month in georgia. and in the house of representatives, republicans are inching closer to retaking control. you can see here the associated press so far is projecting that republicans that have won 211 seats to 200 and won seats for the democrats. it takes 218 seats to get a majority. and there are still several races that are too close to call. even this saturday morning. and it could still be several days before we know which party controls the house of representatives. >> and both parties have their eyes locked on nevada tonight as the state continues to count votes, the race tightening. and coming up, we're going to talk about the warriors were going to talk about last night's game. if you don't miss it. sneak you don't miss it. sneak alert. we won. my most important kitchen tool?

latest. >> facing 20 years behind bars, elizabeth holmes is now a convicted felon after a jury find her found her guilty of 4 felony counts of investor fraud and conspiracy. but her defense team is painting an entirely different story of who she is. they say that she is an intelligent woman in an expectant mother and they say no public good will come from locking her up behind bars. elizabeth holmes defense team submitted an 82 page document. >> with more than 130 letters saying holmes is a humble woman with much to give to the world. even senator cory booker of new jersey wrote a letter on her behalf. cory booker didn't come to the trial and testifies and good character with defense attorney paula canny says the senator >> cannot get homes out of prison time, but one person's input. >> about elizabeth holmes isn't enough to diffuse the fact that she suffered for

an employee told officers that while the delivery truck was in the parking lot, 2 men stole tobacco products straight out of the back of the truck and loaded it into a blue infiniti suv. no arrests have been made. and kron 4 is your election headquarters. as of this morning city council member matt mahan is in the lead to be the next san jose mayor. the latest numbers show he has a 51.0. 4 1% of the votes against santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez. she has 48.6% currently mahan has nearly 4800 more votes than chavez. there are votes still being counted right now. we will keep you updated as we learn more. and the final results from this week's midterms will determine which party controls the house and will also likely affect the future of house speaker nancy pelosi. given the recent attack on her husband, paul, and the possible upset of power in the house. there's speculation on what she'll do next. pelosi

midterm election. according to exit polls, voters 18 to 29 years old. they showed up in potentially record numbers, especially in battleground races. washington correspondent raquel martin has the details. >> your vote is stark numbers. again. young voters are getting a special shout out from the president this election cycle. young people voted. to continue addressing the climate crisis, gun violence, personal rights and freedoms, although votes are still being tallied. exit polling from the center for information and research on civic learning and engagement. >> shows voters 18 29 were key to securing democratic victories in battleground states. we kind of knew that that was going to be the case. tom bergin works with headcount, a nonpartisan group that registers young voters. he says it's no surprise young voters especially dan z are turning out gen z by nature of just existing is political and the result of that is the turnout for elections that we're seeing in that.

nonprofit is preparing veterans and their spouses for a career in tech and for free. it's called empower the program, has classes and job training in 7 states. they're also located right here in the bay area. kron four's ella sogomonian has the details. >> and power teaches a combination of tech training and certification for careers in it. cybersecurity and cloud computing. among other things. they also help graduates land jobs. it's a free course for 16 weeks and is available to veterans. their spouses and young adults from underserved communities. the executive director of and power chris starling is a marine corps veteran of 26 years. he served 10 overseas deployments and 3 combat tours and knows how hard transitioning to civilian life can be. people can apply at any time, but he recommends having a plan ahead of time. starling also shared by military vets are well suited for a career in tech tech is a natural way to go for

now, despite their service and sacrifice, many veterans still face the harsh reality of not having a place to call home. according to the california research bureau, san francisco has the 6th highest number of homeless veterans kron four's terisa stasio talked with someone to find out more about this problem and what's being done to turn things around. >> for for me, whenever i think about veterans day, i think about oh, my fellow soldiers the ones i'm responsible for how we can support them. and for the last 13 years, alan wong served in the army reserve. this is one when he was called up to help. first responders. when a raging wildfire. >> threatened to burn through south lake tahoe today as a legislative analyst's for san francisco supervisor gordon mar. >> is on a new mission to help struggling veterans. >> as a list of aid for some advice tomorrow, we're talking 3 pieces of legislation.

as soon as we learn more. and the final results from this week's midterms will determine which party controls the house. and we'll also likely affect the future of house speaker nancy pelosi given the recent attack on her husband, paul, and the possible upset of power in the house. there's speculation on what she'll do next. pelosi has served as representative from san francisco since 1987. she was reelected this week to another 2 year term. but she's hinted that she might turn in her gavel if republicans win majority control. many expect her to retire. if that happens on capitol hill, there's some speculation that pelosi will leave to focus on her family. she and her husband are both 82 years old. she has 7 interviews that the attack on her husband will be a factor in her decision. if pelosi does choose to retire, a special election would be held to find her replacement. and this morning we're keeping an eye on the balance of power in washington. senate democrats

are now just one seat away from taking control of the senate. democrat mark kelly is now projected to win reelection in arizona. take a look at the numbers. this was a very tight race in a state democrats for the state democrats. they've been able to flip in recent elections. senator kelly is winning the state with nearly 52% of the vote beating republican challenger blake masters who have the support of former president donald trump. that means all eyes this morning on than our own of out of that race. there were the republican nominee, adam laxalt has the lead of less than incumbent democrat catherine cortez masto. there still tens of thousands of votes left to be counted. most of those are from claire clark county. and that is where heavily democratic area las vegas is. if democrats can win the seat, they win control of the senate. if republicans win control of the senate will come down to a runoff election next month in georgia. and in

the house of representatives, republicans are inching closer to retaking control. you can see here the associated press so far is projecting that republicans have won 211 seats to 201 seat for the democrats. it takes 218 seats to get a majority and there are still several races that are too close to call and it could still be several days before we know which party controls the house of representatives. and both parties have their eyes locked on nevada tonight as the state continues to count votes. the race tightening between republican adam laxalt and democratic incumbent catherine cortez masto by about 9,000 votes. it's more than 90% of those votes being counted. in national news. democrats nationwide. are they king young voters for coming out to vote in the midterm election? according to exit polls, voters 18 to 29 years old. they showed up and potentially record numbers, especially in

>> the way. sarah. good morning, everybody. we're looking at a little possibility happening early this evening and that will come with some token snow up in the mountains, but not a whole lot. and everybody is going to go dry for week ahead during the day. at least we get a lot of sunshine as we're getting now to some leftover scattered clouds off towards the distance tahoe. it's kind of a dry forecast as temperatures plummet now down to 33 for the morning lows on tuesday is going to be cold in the home front as well on this chilly morning lows. once that cold air filters back in here. but i did mention a little chance of a shower or 2. that's a little partial you see up towards the north. this is expected to drop south. we're going to get all day to get down here by the early evening hours. quick pass. and by midnight, we're back on the clear skies. check out our ryan yet again. winds on shore. they are for much of today. so it's going to add a little chill going on here. they do pop a little bit this evening. this is going to be with this package dropping south here with some scattered little sprinkles behind all of that. here comes us offshore wind. this is a little pop-up.

it's been a rough year and now the holidays are coming. tell us how big of a need you guys have right now. >> yes, i'm currently in san francisco-marin were serving 56,000 families every week. and that 12% from where we were last year. so the need is still growing. >> growing even from 2020. that's incredible to hear to tell us what we can do to help everyone at home, of course, wants to know how can i help? and they know there's a lot of ways you guys get help from people. >> the biggest way to help is with cash donation rate. now up until november 23rd a black crop is actually has a matching gifts. so your dollars even further. at this point. >> well, that's good to hear. do need volunteers as well. >> so the that's another way to really help food banks by
