with watercolors. we've got all over the bay as we speak now. there it is. with that front, one excuse for one little bit more action up in reno, but it's not delivering anything for us except maybe some of that marine layer temperature check for you. 44 santa rosa, most readings are in the 40's. 45 for however, although it may seem in the 40's, it's a bit on the warmer side or milder compared we were this time yesterday. in some cases, 7 degrees. fairfield conquered and a little bit to the east bay winds for you were variable around the region, single digits to come. what it looks like today. lots of sunshine, a little cool in the 60's. expect about 64 2 o'clock or so looking a little cooler as we start early next week and quite active into the rest of the balance of the week. we'll have more of that coming up stuffing. all right. thanks very much, david. >> in developing news, san francisco police say someone tried to hijack a muni bus on friday night. you can see here in this video from the citizen app, the buses led screen is flashing the message.

emergency call police officers tell us this happened just before 08:00pm on courtland and mission streets. they say someone on the bus assaulted the driver took control of the bus and then drove it to 19th and guerrero streets crashing into several cars along the way. that's where the bus stopped. and police say they were able to arrest that person. an ambulance was called for the bus driver and the driver of another car. we will update you with any new information on this story as it comes in both on air and online at kron 4 dot com. >> and a reminder for you this holiday weekend, the chp has maximum enforcement period is now in place until the end of sunday. the agency increasing the number of officers on the roads, keeping an eye out for travelers driving irresponsibly. the chp says their biggest concern right now is impaired driving 42 people were killed in freeway crashes last thanksgiving weekend. the chp made more than 1000 dui arrests at that time. and now to our other big

>> black friday, the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season. according to the national retail federation, this holiday weekend is expected to be a record-breaking one when it comes to shopping. an estimated 166.3 million people are expected to shop. that includes online shoppers like the she is sticking to the stores can see the quality of what you're purchasing. >> and many shoppers i spoke with say they will continue their holiday shopping spree through the weekend and finished. i'm cyber monday reporting from walnut creek. go on. kron. 4 news. >> and some people started scouring for deals early in the morning. still ridge shopping center in pleasanton opened at 6 on black friday. and our reporter saw shoppers. as you can see, they're picking up gifts either for their loved ones or themselves. the mall start to fill up with lots more people closer to 11:00am. so the big takeaway here, if you want to avoid the big crowds, want to try to get in the mall and stores early. and a similar

situation at hillsdale shopping center in san mateo. take a look at this black friday. they're also starti off pretty quietly. the mall's marketing director says the best deals of the year are no longer limited to black friday. >> i think there are deals that started this week and then there will be deals through the weekend as well. so i think that pattern has changed. and then again, you're correct that we notice that during the rest of the time of the holiday season, that shoppers will really come in and find even more deals as you get closer to the christmas day. >> bo stone, ridge and hillsdale malls will be back open today at 10:00am so you can maybe head on over after the newscast this morning and happening today on the topic of holiday shopping. it is small business saturday and there's certainly plenty of local mom and pop stores offering all kinds of present ideas for ya. kron four's camila barco is live for us in pacifica with more. and it's looking very festive behind you there. camila.

>> yeah, we're currently in downtown pacifica at the royal be yarn company, a store where people can come out here and look support local small businesses with me. i actually have the owner of this store and you're telling me a little bit about how you guys are going make day special for shoppers to me what people can expect when they come down here. well, several of merchants here in the area have kind of clumped together to work together and promote a special day where people can walk the palmetto area. >> and most of the businesses have a special event. special deals going on. i have a makers market in our back garden. we have 14 different vendors that are coming and they're all local. so you can come and get an early start on your holiday shopping and support local. >> and it talks little bit about why it's so special to support local. yesterday. we

were covering black friday. people go to the mosque, the big stores, but it to me, especially for you as a business owner. why it's so special are a crucial, especially during a time like this to support small businesses. i think supporting your small business helps with. >> i'm supporting your teachers, your firemen, your police department, all of the taxes associated with your local area. go to your local area. so always really important. and plus, you know, having unique businesses in an area and makes a location where vibrant and more pleasant to live and so supporting local is it's not just good for the businesses, but it's also good for your community and and helps in every way. so. >> well, today should be of ivory day here in downtown pacifica. stephanie, in the stores will be opening around 10 o'clock this morning. so people can come on out here and support local will be talking to plenty of more business owners throughout the morning. so we'll catch you in

well, the fda is advising people to avoid eating certain raw oysters from south korea. >> this after illnesses were reported from the restaurant in las vegas. at least one person was confirmed to have what's called virus illness with 9 other showing similar symptoms. the fda advisory applies to consumers and sellers in 13 states, including california, anyone in any of these states who may have eaten raw oysters and have food poisoning like symptoms are told to seek immediate medical care. and porch pirates are once again out in force this holiday season. a new report by safewise a home security website found that the bay area has the most package theft compared to other metro areas in the nation. of the top 10 cities experiencing the most package. that's 4 of them are in california outside of the bay area there, sacramento, los angeles and fresno making that list as

have those numbers coming up. what do you see this week ahead? going to get a nice little feel of winter, too. we're city to san jose state. here you have it. the variable clouds at work now the should probably clear up as we get to the afternoon, there's the front we're getting some breezy conditions with it. but it's not really much of a front of all. we're not getting much in the way of winds. this is it for cloud cover and even the air behind it is not that much cooler will have a predecessor or successor to this early in the week and you'll feel the really big difference by midweek. 40 santa rose at this hour. we have some mid to upper 40's going on well inland. 46, san jose and 47 at this hour for san francisco. there it is on futurecast for butter story is decreasing clouds. so turning mostly sunny this afternoon overnight, some of that marine layer coming back again. so some morning fog and clouds, but that too, should probably clear out for much of the day, although might have it linger along the east bay shoreline a little bit going into next week. again, as i mentioned, another front comes our way. that will be a big cooling factor for us. and then by the

eud of the week, it's real interesting. okay. future cast winds with this first system in its wake. yes, offshore winds. that's ok, they're not to be too heavy as we go through this and waiting for the next front early next week. so the breakdown is this early clouds clearing cool 60's tomorrow, sunny and nice. upper 60's inland. not too bad. that gets banged out again next week with some early clouds, cool and showers thursday friday. and the models look pretty good on this. here is being pretty potent and also they'll be some snow and that package for the mountain. 63 san francisco, 64 covering oakland, san jose. 66 across the wider bay. we may pop about 70 up there to santa rosa. we'll get more into this. of course, your 4 zone forecast. look at that extended to stephanie. all right. looking forward to it. thanks so much date. >> in developing news, virginia police released the name of the youngest victim killed in tuesday's deadly walmart shooting. that shooter also killed 5 other walmart workers before taking his own life. kelly beeson has the latest on the investigation. >> shooter, coaches the

breakthrough and just starts shooting. it looked like he has so much rage or his face. because he would just he would stop. he just kept shooting this week. the community of chesapeake, virginia, mourning the loss of 6 walmart employees, murder. >> tuesday night, we now know the identity of the minor. 16 year-old fernando chavez berrent who was shot and killed along with 5 others before the shooter. 31 year-old andre bing of chesapeake turned the gun on himself. >> well, i remember on my first day i got there. it was clear that everybody. had some type of like. i'm not going to see everybody had a problem with them. but when i got there like he was the manager, the lookout for a store associate who wanted to remain anonymous telling our crews. >> he was in the room when those shots rang out,

>> this week, former president trump confirmed on his social media platform that he dinner last week with kanye west. that meeting sparking a lot of questions as the rapper embarks on another run for the white house. trump said that west arrived at mar-a-lago unexpectedly with, quote, 3 of his friends. i mean, time west said that he asked trump to be his running mate in 2024, mister trump has not commented on that statement yet. the rap mogul also making a while. you may recall that the rap mogul made a long shot bid for the white house back in 2020 but has been a pass supporter of trump meeting with him in the oval office in 2018 just one day after the 2020 presidential election west tweeted a photo of trump in front of a map of the u.s. with the caption 2024. we'll

see how that unfolds from there. president biden says he plans to take some time over the holidays to decide if he will rerun or rather what he will run for reelection in 2024, the president has repeatedly said he plans on doing so. but at 80 years-old, biden is the oldest president in u.s. history. early polling shows biden leading over former president trump who last week announced his bid for the white house. >> still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, a looming railroad strike could impact the upcoming christmas shopping season. but the biden administration says it's planning to do to prevent that strike from happening.

half moon bay and also. >> san jose. what is shift this all the way for tonight? tomorrow morning. yeah. looks like a little bit in the way of some fog trying to make its way here a bit. we're going to see more of that. however, later in the forecast week, there's that first front coming by. that's going to impact us a little bit today. their second resurgence of colder air, those doing the day or so. we've got 59, 11:00am by 2 talking 65 and pretty much the same as expected for tomorrow. modest winds on that by monday, though, getting getting a little bit more that marine layer involved. and there's the perhaps a little bit of a shower that may develop. we'll have more on that coming up in a bit. stephanie, thanks very >> in the east bay, police arrested 3 men in connection to 2 homicide cases in bay point. both reported on thanksgiving day contra. costa county sheriff's deputies say the first case was reported just before 9 thursday morning on mountain view avenue. that's where investigators found a 62 year-old man shot at a home. the arrested 63 year-old donald robbins in connection to this incident.

then shortly before 4 that same afternoon, deputies responded to reports of a shooting on wharf drive and found a man dead on the street. there. investigators arrested 18 year-old emmanuel morales and 38 year-old arturo morale is in connection to that case. the pair face murder, assault weapon possession and accessory charges. in the south bay. a car crashed into a building in morgan hill. >> take a look at that damage there. cal fire says this happened yesterday morning in the area of monterey road and barrett avenue. firefighters say there were no injuries. but as you can see, there was quite a bit of damage to clean up for firefighters. investigators are looking into how this crash happened. and in national news, our country's economy could come to a standstill in just a matter of days. if the nation's largest rail workers unions failed to negotiate a new deal with the railroad companies. this comes as a previous deal brokered by the

biden administration was rejected by 4 of the 12 unions. kelli meyer reports on what the biden administration is doing to prevent the strike from happening. >> the white house working to avert a potential rail shutdown just in time for the holiday season. >> my team not talking. >> president joe biden says he personally has and jumped into talks between rail companies and unions clashing over contracts. a repeat of what happened in september when the white house stepped in to broker a tentative agreement earlier this week, the white house said the president is getting into the discussions. again, the president is indeed involved directly biden, a pro union president is hoping to avoid a rail strike after 4 of the 12 unions voted against the tentative deal. the main sticking point for unions is over paid sick time. >> what could be more christmas spirit like then they evan, these are scrooges of the world. that's the

railroads at giving pittance in the form of paid sick days, took all the hardworking bought, crashed into the world. >> the negotiated positive outcome with each of our 12 unions is the the goal. >> the rail industry argues the earlier agreement included the largest wage increase in 5 decades and was endorsed by the president as a win. they say they're ready to reach new deals, but the window is closing. if nothing is decided by december 9th, there could be an industry-wide strike, dealing a blow to the nation's supply chain. potential shortages on everything from gas to food to automobiles, driving up prices. here's the transportation secretary describing the costa news nation's leland vittert. weakening american economy deal with. if it happens, it would not be good. the retail industry says the strike would cause an enormous disruption, but the stores are already stocked for the holiday those left to pick up the slack of a potential rail shutdown like the trucking industry are already facing challenges of their own trucks, trailers and drivers in short supply and

taking on the way of the rail companies they say is a load. they just can't lift. there is no way to completely replace. to take care of that tonnage. it goes on >> and that was kellie meyer reporting for us this morning. meantime, amazon worker strikes are underway in the u.s. germany, france and 30 other countries. organizers are demanding better pay benefits and safer work site. amazon workers are increasingly calling to unionize because of what they're calling unsafe conditions and unrealistic work. expectations. in addition to protest at amazon warehouses, some are planned at whole foods stores across the country which amazon also owns. and twitter has banned from its platform, a gun club known to provide protection at lgbtq events. the elm fork john brown gun club previously made headlines for making appearances at events in texas while armed standing guard to protect participants from far

right extremists. but twitter shut down the group's account after the organization tweeted in the days after the colorado springs shooting that people in the lgbtq community should arm themselves in case of future attacks. twitter rep said that action violated community guidelines. in more twitter news. the company now plans to relaunch its checkmarks premium service next week. elon musk says there will be multicolor check marks for verified accounts ranging from gold, gray and blue. now the service was recently suspended because of many imposter accounts. musk says all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before the symbol activates. he's also announced he will give amnesty to suspended accounts after poll show that pages that have not broken site rules should be reinstated. pull that he himself ran the state of california is cracking down on the illegal sale tobacco to minors. the state department

of justice is distributing more than 18 million dollars to 41 local government programs. the money is meant to educate local tobacco retailers on federal laws ensure. but their licensing is in compliance and also prosecute those who sell tobacco products to young people, including on the internet. and take a look at this. ruth bancroft garden in walnut creek is celebrating the holiday spirit very pretty. the garden host, its 4th annual garden delights for the next 6 weeks. this is a display of california's native plants, decorated with holiday lights and ornaments. the garden also celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. happy anniversary to them. people gathered for the opening day at sugar bowl ski resort in norton. part of the festivities included a live dj food and 30's keyable trails winter sports fans were treated to some lovely weather for opening festivities. lots of snow coming down there. the sugar bowl says their crews have been hard at work the last week to prepare for opening weekend. if you are

the bay area are experiencing a surge in rsv cases which largely impacts young children. the pediatric icu at betty off children's hospital in san francisco is now 97% full doctor david cornfield at lucile packard children's hospital says more kids are struggling with the respiratory virus now because of the pandemic. >> now, 3 years of isolation. so many of the kids that would have ordinarily been infected with rsv did not see the infection. we also know that kids infected with rsv tend to be more severely affected with their first infection. >> experts, local health experts recommend social distancing during gatherings it. they also recommend having dpface masks handy and to take advantage of vaccines during the holiday. doctor chin-hong also says that he's from ucsf, rather. doctor peter chin-hong. he says that pfizer is developing a vaccine for rsv and expects that to be available next year. and international news. china is

>> all right. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. happy holidays to you. let's start off this half hour with a look at our forecast. dave spahr in the weather center tracking the very latest on what's happening day. hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. quick check of the bay area. temperatures were in the 40's over most most of the real estate. 37 up to santa rosa. >> and 49, meanwhile for san francisco as skies start to clear a little bit. now we're getting some sunshine through some of those clouds. this is that. >> shot of the east bay shoreline and some higher stratus at work here with the front that's expected of the parts throughout the early morning hours behind. it will get a little bit of an offshore wind but nothing too major. as we look ahead to tomorrow morning, a little bit

of that marine layer does come back overnight. we might actually see a little bit more the way some surface fog to get things started off. so again, there's that front after it passes. we get a little bit offshore winds, but real real breezy tomorrow looks pretty good except that marine layer coming back. then a secondary front. what you will feel. the temperature effects in a big way early next week. 63 at high noon at 3 o'clock. we're at 65 in a bit. we'll take a look also at that 4 zone forecast for saturday. stephanie. >> it's very much dave in the east bay, police arrested 3 men in connection to 2 homicide cases in bay point. both reported on thanksgiving day contra. costa county sheriff's deputies say the first case was reported just before 9 thursday morning on mountain view avenue. that's where investigators found a 62 year-old man shot at a home. they arrested 63 year-old donald robbins in connection to that incident. then shortly before 4 that same afternoon, deputies responded to reports of a shooting on worth drive and found a man dead on the street. investigators arrested

18 year-old emmanuel morales and 38 year-old arturo morales in connection to that case, the pair face murder, assault, weapon, possession and accessory charges. in the south bay. a car crashed into a building in morgan hill. take a look at that damage there. cal fire says this happened yesterday morning in the area of monterey road and barrett avenue. firefighters say there were no injuries, but as you can see, there was quite a bit of damage left behind for firefighters to take care of. investigators are now looking into how this crash happened. would you catch a commercial flight with only one pilot? some airlines are pushing to reduce the number of pilots in the cockpit. and this comes amid an ongoing pilot shortage leaving questions on if this is a safe move. markie martin explains the effort to get people on board. >> it's the latest effort by airlines to cut costs in staffing shortages, shrinking

commercial cockpits down to one pilot. this after covid all but decimated the industry igniting waves of unrest. not only by flight crews protesting grueling working >> but from passengers as well. we have a crisis when it comes to airline travel. we have a pilot shortage and those who say we don't well, they're just full of the pitch is gaining international steam with more than 40 countries, including germany, the uk and new zealand asking the united nations body that sets aviation standards to make single pilot safe reality. but it's a hard sell for those actually behind the controls. well, it shouldn't be any surprise. they're looking at saving money. and we're looking at saving lives. captain dentist hager has been with american airlines for more than 30 years. he says having a partner for safe decision-making is at the core of what they do, especially in emergency situations. sick could be a passenger

disruption while in flight it could be the weather. a major system malfunction like an engine fire, low visibility approaches. the bottom line is soul to soul contact is what is going to make the difference in these scenarios. and aviation consultant colonel jay joseph who flew for u.s. airways agrees adding it will be tough to get passengers on board to the ramifications of the downside to that are so far-reaching. you never be able to find. i'm. >> hear the i think you'd be able to get the general traveling public on board with. >> aviation attorney and pilot timothy lauren juror telling newsnation he sees no path forward here for single pilot flights. it's very important to create an environment where people feel i got tells me that that the faa and other governmental agencies will be very hard pressed to approve something like this. >> and that was markie. martin

reporting for us this morning. meantime, amazon worker strikes are underway in the u.s. germany, france and 30 other countries. organizers are demanding better pay benefits and safe work sites. amazon workers are increasingly calling to unionize because of unsafe. what they're calling unsafe conditions and unrealistic work. expectations. now in addition to protest at amazon warehouses, some additional demonstrations are planned at whole foods stores across the country, which amazon also all the state of california is cracking down on the illegal sale of tobacco to minors. the state's department of justice is distributing more than 18 million dollars to 41 local government programs. that money is meant to educate local tobacco retailers on federal laws. in short, our licensing is in compliance and prosecute those who sell tobacco products to young people, including on the internet. and doctors are urging people to be extra careful this holiday weekend as hospitals across the

country continue to be overwhelmed with rsv cases that respiratory virus has caused states like oregon to declare a state of emergency kron four's. rob nesbitt spoke with doctors here in the bay area about what hospitals here are seeing. >> things are getting worse at children's hospitals with icu beds filling up combine that with an increase of flu and covid cases and the adult icus are also near capacity. for weeks. parents have heard the warnings about rsv cases sweeping the nation. infectious disease expert at ucsf doctor peter chin-hong says things are also worsening here. the pediatric icu at betty off children's hospital in san francisco is now at 97%. occupancy every right to the tent for overflow and the pediatric hospital. so many. >> for many pediatricians, this is their march of 2020, mainly because there is a lot of capacity in the pediatric hospitals in general. the doctor says a rise in flu and covid cases are also filling up the adult icu, which sits at a 95% occupancy rate. he

described what patients with the most serious cases of rsv undergo. most kids is just really removing secretions, giving rest henri support, maybe a breathing tube for the most serious and rehydration at stanford university's packard children's hospital. there seems to be fewer cases keeping up. i think it packard betts remain at a premium. doctor david cornfield says there seems to be more children struggling with rsv now because of the pandemic. those 3 years and younger getting the respiratory virus for the first time that 3 years of isolation. so many of the kids that would have ordinarily been infected with rsv. >> did not see the infection. we also know that kids infected with rsv tend to be more severely affected with their first infection. he says the vast majority of children get through their symptoms without needing to go to the hospital. both health experts recommend parents to social distance during the holidays, mask up and take advantage of vaccines. get your flu shot and your covid shot because we're not really sure what all that interaction of the viruses might be like, though

tell us this happened just before 08:00pm on courtland and mission street. they say someone on the bus assaulted the driver took control of the bus and then drove it to 19th and guerrero streets crashing into several cars along the way. that's where the bus stopped. and police say they were able to arrest that person. an ambulance was called to the bus driver and the driver of another car. we continue to follow any new developments on this story and will update you with the latest as it comes in both on air and online at kron 4 dot com. and a reminder for you this holiday weekend, the chp has maximum enforcement period is in place now until the end of sunday. the agency increasing the number of officers on the roads, keeping an eye out for travelers who might be driving irresponsibly. the chp saying their biggest concern is impaired driving. 42 people were killed in freeway crashes last thanksgiving weekend. the chp made more than 1000 dui arrests at that time. and now to other big story this morning, black friday shopping

avoid eating certain raw oysters from south korea. >> this after illnesses were reported from a restaurant in las vegas. at least one person was confirmed to have what's called virus illness with 9 other showing similar symptoms. the fda advisory applies to consumers and sellers and 13 states, including california anyone in any of the states who may have eaten raw oysters and have food poisoning like symptoms. are told to please seek immediate medical care. and porch pirates are once again out in force this holiday season. a new report by safewise a home security website found the bay area has the most package that compared to other metro areas in the nation of the top 10 cities experiencing the most package thefts. 4 of them are in california outside of the bay area, sacramento, los angeles and fresno on that list, too. the report also found 3 out of 4 americans have had a package stolen. the theft of packages went up. 23 1% over the last

the downtown area. we can see a sales force tower. and transamerica on the left-hand side of the screen. there. all of that kind of that. we see the fog also in the background there kind of drifting along very pretty scene. i'm dave, what sort of conditions can people across the bay area expect today? >> well, pretty good concern. the fact that we're kind of going into winter a little bit here, kind of unofficially, i suppose a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. nice. big improvement happening. the east bay shoreline. that cloud cover is pretty much departed. now, some of this haze to be mix out a little bit by the passage of this front kind of cleaning out our atmosphere going on. and so we'll see a lot of blue skies for today. but here it is. the progress of the cloud cover associated with a dry front door poor excuse for one cause. we're not getting much the way of winds either with any of this. there's some of the mountain snows off towards the east as you will notice temperatures. 46 for santa rosa. 48 for novato. still some 40's in the east bay, but now some 50's are populating the region. 49, meanwhile, 4 san jose future

announced. it sounds >> yeah, i knew a couple of his staff were going to be in fresno filming my classroom just for footage of the arts and programs in california. so i didn't expect him to walk in. i don't think that's something anybody ever expect. this. it was a thrill and i'm deeply honored and looking forward to the 2 speaking of the governor, he said that your work highlights the diverse experiences of californians and the immigrant experience. he said it's poetry that the best spirit of our tell us a bit lee about what inspires you and why you choose to tell the stories. >> well, i think it has got to do something with my upbringing and even my being from south korea adopted 2 united states. i was raised the east bay and danville and then in modesto. and so, you know, i've always grown up a

great range of diversity and in cultures and backgrounds and experiences and perspectives. and so. moving to fresno is where i really blossom by thing from and was allowed to move into poetry even more so, you know, being in a state like california, with 40 million people. in fresno alone, i think they're around 100 languages spoken. and so it's it's an honor, stephanie, it's it's a it's a deep honor to be the football in. speaking of fresno, you previously also served as fresno's poet laureate from 2015 to 2017. >> you mention the governor coming to your classroom. you now professor at fresno city published in many literary magazines. what are some things you would like you ers? what would what would you like people to know about the art form that is phetry. you know, sometimes. >> people think poetry is is

obscure or difficult or or luxury and it. what i would say is that i think we need poetry as much as we need any other kind of art or sustenance, whether it's music. even source of nourishment food, obviously is is literal. but i think poetry, something that figuratively we need in our lives. it's a source of inspiration. it's a source of. nurse met, like i said, it can confront. they can inspire. and so i would encourage people to to bring poetry of their lives as much as they can. >> and lee, could you share your perspective as well about the value of the arts literature, especially, you know, at this time where people are grappling with so many things like the pandemic inflation, the political climate. >> yeah, i mean, for me, it's always been hand-in-hand with that and not something separate. so where's politics

might scene? opposite to poetry to mean they're they're one of the same. i think. whether it's with the political climate, something i'm like a global pandemic. even i think people turned to i think they turns to spirituality. the arts. they were reminded of what's importance. and i think you know, those extreme tragedies are traumas might be moments where people might turn to poetry. i think poetry can be with us all the time and not only in times of difficulty, but in our everyday as well. >> lee would love to get a sense of what you think. your first act as poet laureate for the state of california would be. >> it's a good question. you know, the last week has been in this whirlwind of kindness

we'll have your extended forecast and look at that 4 zone all coming up in a bit. stephanie, thanks very much. day. >> breaking overnight, a gas station clerk is dead after an attempted robbery in antioch, according to police around 02:00am a gas station worker called 9-1-1. reporting a person was shot. we know that officers arrived and found the victim on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. that victim died at the scene. officers say the victim worked at the service station was held up at gunpoint during quote, a botched robbery. the suspect fled on foot. officers tell us and the search for the shooter continues this morning. now to the east bay. police arrested 3 men there in connection to 2 homicide cases in bay point. both reported on thanksgiving day contra. costa county sheriff's deputies say the first case was reported just before 9 thursday morning on mountain view avenue. that's where investigators found a 62 year-old man shot at a home. they arrested 63 year-old donald robbins in connection to the incident.

then shortly before for that very same afternoon, deputies responded to reports of a shooting on wharf drive and found a man dead there on the street. investigators arrested 18 year-old emmanuel morales. and 38 year-old arturo morales in connection to that case, the pair face murder, assault weapon possession and accessory charges. in the south bay. a car crashed into a building on morgan hit in morgan hill. cal fire says this happened yesterday morning in the area of monterey road and barrett avenue. firefighters say there were no injuries. but as you can see, there was a lot of damage to clean up. investigators are looking into how this crash happened. in national news. our country's economy could come to a standstill in just a matter of days. if the nation's largest rail workers unions failed to negotiate a new deal with the railroad companies. this comes as a previous deal brokered by the biden administration was

railroads at giving pittance in the form of paid sick days, took all the hardworking bought, crashed into the world. >> the negotiated positive outcome with each of our 12 unions is the the goal. >> the rail industry argues the earlier agreement included the largest wage increase in 5 decades and was endorsed by the president as a win. they say they're ready to reach new deals, but the window is closing. if nothing is decided by december 9th, there could be an industry-wide strike, dealing a blow to the nation's supply chain. potential shortages on everything from gas to food to automobiles, driving up prices. here's the transportation secretary describing the costa news nation's leland vittert thanking the american economy deal with. if it happens, it would not be good. the retail industry says the strike would cause an enormous disruption, but the stores are already stocked for the holiday those left to pick up the slack of a potential rail shutdown like the trucking industry are already facing challenges of their own trucks, trailers and drivers in short supply and taking on the way of the rail

companies they say is a load. they just can't lift. there is no way to completely replace. to take care of that time she goes on >> and that was kellie meyer reporting for us this morning. meantime, amazon worker strikes are underway in the u.s. germany, france and 30 other countries. organizers are demanding better pay benefits and safe work site. amazon workers are increasingly calling to unionize because of what they're calling unsafe conditions and unrealistic work. expectations. in addition to protest the amazon warehouses, some more demonstrations are planned at whole foods stores across the country, which amazon also owns twitter has banned from its platform, a gun club known to provide protection at lgbtq events. the elm fork john brown gun club previously made headlines for making appearances at day events in texas. well, armed standing guard to protect participants from far right extremists. but

prosecute those who sell tobacco products to young people, including on the internet. doctors are urging people to be extra careful this holiday weekend as hospitals across the country continue to be overwhelmed with rsv cases. the respiratory virus has caused states like oregon to declare a state of emergency kron four's. rob nesbitt spoke with doctors in the bay area about what hospitals here are seeing. >> things are getting worse at children's hospitals with icu beds filling up combine that with an increase of flu and covid cases and the adult icus are also near capacity. for weeks. parents have heard the warnings about rsv cases sweeping the nation. infectious disease expert at ucsf doctor peter chin-hong says things are also worsening here. the pediatric icu at betty off children's hospital in san francisco is now at 97%. occupancy every right to the tent for overflow and the pediatric hospital. so many. >> for many pediatricians, this is march of 2020, mainly because there is a lot of

capacity in the pediatric hospitals in general. the doctor says a rise in flu and covid cases are also filling up the adult icu, which sits at a 95% occupancy rate. he described what patients with the most serious cases of rsv undergo. most kids is just really removing secretions, giving rest henri support, maybe a breathing tube for the most serious and rehydration at stanford university's packard children's hospital. there seems to be fewer cases keeping up. i think it packard betts remain at a premium. doctor david cornfield says there seems to be more children struggling with rsv now because of the pandemic. those 3 years and younger getting the respiratory virus for the first time that 3 years of isolation. so many of the kids that would have ordinarily been infected with rsv. >> did not see the infection. we also know that kids infected with rsv tend to be more severely affected with their first infection. he says the vast majority of children get through their symptoms without needing to go to the hospital. both health experts recommend parents to social distance during the holidays,

call everybody off big time. but then as it gets towards the end of this week, ahead, what we're going to be adding 2 will be collected thus far. they're still be really nice the season starts to open for some folks. tahoe forecast notes a little bit the way some light snow showers going on for monday. there's the drop in temperatures note after that, things get interesting as we get into thursday friday, temperatures lower 50's breaking out here in the east bay shoreline. 54 for 46 santa rosa. 49 going on for san jose. so we have this first system that passed through overnight. give some cloud cover. coming up, some of the stars. that's the secondary system for monday. the biggest issue with this will be it will drive some winds on monday. also, we'll bring in some much cooler air behind all of that. watching it all. go into motion. here it is fairly dry when it comes in our part of might be able to scrounge. so some of that marine layer after that's done, we get a pop of some stronger winds. this looks pretty promising towards the end of the week. we don't have total agreement on this intensity from the models. but
