at 11:00am soon going to see and parts of solano county, dense fog. so again, make sure leave early. make sure you use your low beams. you're going to see a tricky commute set to leave fog. we're also going to see foggy conditions to the south and san jose in hayward as we fast for the clock, things will slowly start to look better again around 11. but just something to keep in mind as you plan your day, temperatures right now below freezing in places like santa rosa. 28 napa. 31 antioch, 31 as well. not to mention that fox watch for that patchy ice on the coast. we're looking at half moon bay of 40 and down south. we're at 31 wake-up planner shows it's going to get better as the day continues. san francisco. 55 in sunny oakland. 55 frosty start for some sanojose. we're looking at 58. but what about your 7 day forecast? potential rain is in the forecast and we'll break it all down for you. coming up next. all right. thanks very much, brittany. >> in the east bay, a 16 year-old is dead after being shot at and near a park in antioch. it happened yesterday morning just before 11, 30 a

williamson ranch park on lone tree way. police responded to reports of gunshots and found a teenage boy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near the parking lot. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. police say the victim met with another teen in a group of people in a dark colored sedan before shots were fired. no other arrests have been made. this is an active investigation and we will update you when we have more information coming into our newsroom. napa valley teacher has been arrested for allegedly engaging in lewd acts with a minor. derek holland was arrested friday night in sassoon by the napa county sheriff's office. the unified school district alert. if i parents of the arrest, officials say the incident happened after school and did not happen on campus. according to the school website, holland was a special education teacher at american canyon high school and has been with the district for 16 years. he is currently on

administrative leave. bail has been set at $50,000. no other details about the victim have been share. a person was hit and killed by a car in petaluma. this happened just blocks away from highway 101, near south mcdowell boulevard around 06:00am yesterday. police are still investigating what happened. they say the person that was killed appeared to be in the roadway when the car hit them. and the south bay, an suv slams into a post office in mountain view and drives right through its large glass windows luckily no one was hurt in that incident. kron four's amanda hari has a look at what happened. >> the post office is still open and it's been open all day. you can still come over here and mail your items, the issues become when you need to get to some of the p o box. if you take a look over here, you can see there is caution tape and beyond the caution tape is that broken window and a ton of broken glass. >> think that surprised to see this because i i i don't know

repairs. but it will be boarded up and people will be able to get to their boxes in mountain view. amanda hari kron. 4 news. >> all right. santa rosa police. i did 30 drivers and arrested 3 friday night. police say 29 drivers were cited for driving without a license and one for driving with a suspended or revoked license. 3 drivers were arrested for dui. and our nation waste about 40% of the food we produce. but one east bay nonprofit turns that good food into meals for hungry families as kron four's philippe djegal reports the organizations are pretty busy this holiday season. >> white pony express rescue surplus perishable items from local, grocers and restaurants separates the good items from the bad and packages. fresh food and prepared meals to 120,000 contra costa county food, insecure residents who might otherwise go hungry surplus food. that is food that needs to make space for

new inventory, food that might be getting close to its best by date. and what we do is ensure that that does not go to waste. it doesn't go to landfills, but rather it goes to feed our hungry neighbors. the nonprofit is based in pleasant hill and is mostly driven by its volunteers. the group was founded in 2013 but didn't hire its first staff member until 4 years later. there's somewhere on the order of 7,000 or 7500 meals. >> that are delivered each day and there's just a tremendous need given all that food is collected to start the day and then sorted at the warehouse is back on the streets and delivered to doorsteps within the same day. i to see how much we've helped people throughout the years and it just a huge part of my life. executive director yves bird says most of the people receiving the food and prepared meals live in east contra costa county and richmond. the group also operates a general store distributing free clothing, toys and supplies between people being cold.

>> in national news, the father of the man charged with killing 7 people at the highland park 4th of july parade appeared in court. robert crime of junior surrendered to police on friday. he's charged with 7 felony counts of reckless conduct. one for each person fatally shot during the parade and for sponsoring his. then

19 year-old son's application for a firearm owners identification card to legally possess guns and ammunition. prosecutors say he knew his son robert crimo. the 3rd was unfit to own a gun. the judge set his bond at $50,000 and he bonded out yesterday afternoon. his next hearing is set for january. 12th. a federal appeals court has rejected efforts to keep restrictions on immigrants seeking asylum. the trump era policy known as title. 42 is set to expire next week under the program. immigrants seeking asylum were turned away to prevent the spread of covid. critics say the policy violates international law, but a coalition of republican leaning states wanted to keep those restrictions in place. yesterday's ruling means the restrictions are on track to expire on wednesday, but some states are expected to appeal to the supreme court. >> well, happening now, a dense fog advisory in solano county. plus, rain may be on county. plus, rain may be on the way later bye, bye cough. later chest congestion. hello 12 hours of relief.

feeling? you know, what was we've got to work hard for the holidays. so yes, every hour counts. there you happening now. what we're watching is really this conditions we watched last night we watching today and our theme really is going to be dense fog for summer. break it down. another chilly start >> tonight, our lows are going to be around. 36 to 42 degrees. so 7 to be chilly. not as chilly as last night, but it's still going to be chilly and next week with the potential for rain on tuesday and friday. so current temperatures right now as we speak, you can see on the coast in the 40's, but to the north, we're still below freezing. some places like santa rose at 28, you can see right there cloverdale 35. so temperatures as freezing r - temperatures all the way up to fairfield. so those bridges, those overpasses and those ramps they freeze first to take it nice and slow because in those areas not to mention we have a dense fog advisory and a portion of solano county. so that means until 11 o'clock you can see that truly found. that didn't fog as you head out to do whatever it is that you're doing with that holiday travel, we're going to see extra traffic on the roadways. so i always say make sure to leave early and again,

make sure to use your low beams. taking a look at the big picture. yes, we have that dense fog advisory. that's to the corner but down south, we are watching for dense fog are just foggy conditions in places like san jose and hayward. as we fast forward to 11 o'clock, it's still going to be lingering fog in san jose in mountain view. and then things will slowly start to look better. the big picture shows you. we are still looking for rain. that's a top story. i don't think it would be anything too crazy on tuesday. and as we roll into friday, you can see right here, it's going to be active in the early morning. but as they take a look at the numbers now, this is an aggressive child, but it kind of sets the tone. of course, these charts can change. but i think if we do get rain for the week, it's going to be less than a quarter of an inch. that's something that watch throughout the week. tomorrow. you can see our temperatures are going to be in the 50's today. they're going to be in the 50's for the most part as well. so we're going to be sitting right there at average as we take a look at that. you can see again sunday. our highs will be 57. our lows will be 33 as we roll into monday, we had 52 again watching potential rain on tuesday monday night into tuesday and

then we're going to hit the 60's. so a little bit of everything in our forecast will stay connected throughout the day. but really is that dense fog to the north that will continue to update you on throughout the morning, stephanie. all right. thanks very much, brittany. and now to an interview you'll only see here on kron 4, the fbi released its new national hate crimes report this week documenting incidents from 2020, the 2021. i sat down with the fbi, san francisco special agent in charge to discuss the latest findings. >> why that data is still incomplete. we're here in san francisco, chinatown, a vibrant cultural center that also became the backdrop of a number of hate related incidents during the height of the pandemic. >> we're now getting a clearer picture of the situation in our one-on-one exclusive interview with the fbi. >> the streets of san francisco chinatown largely empty on a weekday afternoon with just a handful of shoppers browsing stores recovering from the pandemic.

like to recognize the financial and emotional trauma still felt in places like this one continuing today with all that was bent but actually got worse. karl chan, president of the oakland chinatown, chamber of commerce says >> concerns remain for victims of hate related attacks. you're saying that they're actually far more hate crimes happening that are being reported. why is that the first saying that they offer a i said, is that? a failed public television fears. the fbi tells us they are aware of for the fbi. hate crimes are national threat priority special agent in charge. bob trip sitting down with us for the fbi's first televised interview on their new hate crimes report released just this week. the report, unfortunately shows that hate crimes are still a nationwide issue. the fbi sharing 7300 hate crimes were documented in 2021, nearly two-thirds of reported nationwide incidents

involved black victims in california. the fbi observed a 30% increase in reported hate crimes. >> the highest le el since 2001 reported hate crimes targeting black people were the most prevalent increasing just over 12% reported anti-asian attacks rose nearly 178% and anti hispanic anti latino attacks increased 30% between 2020 2021. report hate incidents involving the lgbtq community rose. 48% and hate crime events involving religious bias and antisemitism increased. 32% were hoping that people come when they know that this is something of tremendous interest to the fbi. the agency admitting the latest national data which covers 2021 is incomplete. >> this year the fbi began transitioning to what it describes as a new more accurate crime reporting

system known as neighbors. unfortunately in that transition, there are technical requirements that departments have to put into place as a result. thousands of police departments, including those in new york and los angeles did not report hate crime data. i do want to emphasize that the data that the fbi collects >> is only one data point in our understanding of the national prevalence of a crime were actually very confident that hate crimes are on the rise. >> when we haven't just numbers and the point, what we going to do about it? >> hanging on to hope and waiting for permanent solutions. we devoted more agent time and more financial resources to combat a crime. anybody who comes to us, we will listen to what you have to say. we will take your story and we will help you to try to find justice in san francisco. stephanie, live kron. 4 news. >> all right. happening tomorrow, the house select committee investigating the january 6 riot is expected to recommend the justice department criminally charge. former president trump sources

say the committee plans to vote tomorrow to issue criminal referrals against the former president for insurrection. at least 2 other charges. committee members say trump attempted to obstruct the certification of joe biden's election as president. they've also said trump defrauded the american people. according to that group, the house impeached trump last year for incitement of insurrection but justice department does not have to act upon any criminal referrals. and the tsa is raising the maximum fine for passengers who try to fly with firearms in their carry on luggage the increase of almost $15,000 comes after the tsa says they found 6300 guns in passengers luggage this year with almost 90% of those weapons loaded. the number of guns found by the agency has increased every year since 2010 with the exception of 2021, all the airports, as you may recall, were shut down during the height of the pandemic. a reminder now that guns must be locked in a checked bag and declared to

>> millions of americans are getting ready to hit the road for the holiday season. triple a expecting more than 100 million people to hit the roads between december 23rd and january. 2nd, let's check out their list of the best and worst times to drive the biggest takeaway from all of this at home is a lot of numbers there. we're going to break it down for you. the trick that you want to keep in mind as you want to leave early, if you are leaving on the 23rd triple a says you should leave before 2 in the afternoon. if you're leaving on christmas eve, you should plan to leave before 11:00am. there's not a lot of traffic expected on christmas day. new year's eve or new year's day. so keep that in mind. the rest of the holiday season. you should be ok if you hit the road in the early morning hours. all of this coming as gas prices continue to drop. check this out. statewide prices have gone down nearly a dollar over the last month. the highest prices in the bay area are still in napa where you'll pay for 62 per gallon.

the cheapest prices are in the fairfield allay area with a price for a gallon of regular is down to 4.28. so quite a bit of a drop. since a few months ago, we were seeing close to $7 for a gallon. all right. with higher gas prices starting to ease up president biden announced plans to refill the strategic petroleum reserve. biden ramping up releases from that reserve after russia's invasion of ukraine. send oil and gas prices soaring to record levels. more than 211 million barrels were used after much criticism from republicans. that strategy worked. crude oil markets calmed and gas prices are now averaging about 3.15, a gallon down from more than 5 bucks in june. that energy department officials says the refill program will take months to even years. still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news health officials now issuing new safety guidelines as concerns over covid and the flu go up. >> we have more after the break.

their sense of taste and smell were about twice as likely to have higher levels of covid-19 antibodies. and you can soon get more free covid-19 tests from the federal government. the white house is bringing back that program. the first launched last year free at-home covid-19. tests can be ordered online and delivered to your home. just head to covid test dot gov. each household can get 4 rapid tests. i've already ordered mine. the administration also says it's getting ready to provide additional medical staffing to areas around the country. we're extra hospital support may be needed. in the north bay. a police chase in vallejo leads to an arrest for drugs and illegal firearm on friday when police tried to pull over a vehicle for driving recklessly, the driver refused to pull over the car, eventually crashing into a light pole. the driver was immediately arrested after searching the car. officers found a large amount of marijuana and an unregistered firearm. musk has lifted the

twitter suspensions for several journalists after he says they shared private information about his location, that temporary ban. however, further straining the relationship between twitter's new owner and some in the media. washington correspondent joe khaleel has more. >> justified or pip a critical new twitter owner. elon musk restored several journalists account after banning them from the platform friday setting off a firestorm of criticism was going to create percent. they're not special. but there's your your there's that isn't. >> so no special docks. you talk to get to spend it and a story. musk himself took part in a digital roundtable discussion with some of the very journalists he banned. >> claiming he banned them for doxing for publicly sharing the real-time movements and location of his private jet, which is publicly available.

start, we're going to warm up to a nice 55 in oakland, san jose. 58 in san francisco. 55 rain in the forecast. we'll break it down for you. coming up next. a funny. all right. looking forward to it. brittany, thank you. >> in the east bay, a 16 year-old has died after being shot near a park in antioch. it happened yesterday morning just before 11, 30 at williamson ranch park on lone tree way. police responded to reports of gunshots and found the teenage boy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near the parking lot. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. police say the victim met with another teen and a group of people in a dark colored sedan before shots were heard fired and no other arrests have been made. this is an active investigation and we will update you with any new information as it comes into the newsroom. and napa valley teacher at american canyon high school has been arrested for allegedly engaging in lewd acts with a minor. derek holland was arrested friday night in sassoon by the napa county sheriff's office. the napa unified school district

alerted parents of the arrest. officials say the incident happened after school and did not happen on campus. now, according to the school website, holland was a special education teacher at american canyon high school. it has been with the district for 16 years. he's now on administrative leave. bail has been set at $50,000. and no other details about the victim have been shared. as of this hour. a person was hit and killed by a car in petaluma. this happened just blocks from highway 101, near south mcdowell boulevard around 06:00am yesterday. police are still investigating what happened. they say the person that was killed appeared to be in the roadway when the car hit them. and the south bay, an suv slams into a post office in mountain view and drives right through the large glass windows at the front of the building. luckily no one was hurt in that crash. kron four's amanda hari takes a look at what happened. >> the post office is still open and it's been open all day. you can still come over

surplus, perishable items from local, grocers and restaurants separates tre good items from the bad and packages. fresh food and prepared meals to food, insecure residents who might otherwise go hungry surplus food. that is food that needs to make space for new inventory, food that might be getting close to its best by date. and what we do is ensure that that does not go to waste. it doesn't go to landfills, but rather it goes to feed our hungry neighbops. the nonprofit is based in pleasant hill and is mostly driven by its volunteers. the group was founded in 2013 but didn't hire its first staff member until 4 years later. there's somewhere on the order of 7,000 or 7500 meals. >> that are delivered each day and there's just set a tremendous need given all that food is collected to start the day and then sorted at the warehouse is back on the streets and delivered to doorsteps within the same day. i to see how much we've helped

to put it into the into the middle part and i'm ready to get pretty heated. my to 500 degrees. and that's what's going to be that nice, christine, us now the prime rib is going to take anywhere from an hour and a half to 2 hours, depending on how big your prime so i'm going to put my in the oven at 500 degrees for about 25 to 45 minutes, ok? and once i think that time is up turn the temperature down, i'm not going and i put it at 3.25. and it's going to cook again. so the ring 325 in. i'm going to cook it for about a half an hour. and that's going to get the inside. so the way i like it and then for the last probably 15 to 20 minutes and they put the heat back up again. and i'm going cook at 4.25. now i'm going to rely on my digital thermometer here when it hits when 10 stephanie, that's when you're going to take it out of the habit. now it's not going okay, but we're

williamson ranch park on lone tree way. police responded to reports of gunshots and found a teenage boy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near the parking lot. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. police say the victim met with another teen in a group of people in a dark colored sedan. before shots were fired. no other arrests have been made and the investigation remains active at this hour. a napa valley teacher at american canyon high school has been arrested for allegedly engaging in lewd acts with a minor. derek holland was arrested friday night into soon by the napa county sheriff's office. the napa unified school district alerted parents of the arrest. officials say the incident happened after school and did not happen on campus. according to the school website, holland was a special education teacher at american canyon high school and has been with the district for 16 years. he's currently on administrative leave. bail was set at $50,000. all right. a

i said, is that a fair public television fears the fbi tells us they are aware of for the fbi. hate crimes are national threat priority special agent in charge. bob trip sitting down with us for the fbi's first televised interview on their new hate crimes report released just this week. the report, unfortunately shows that hate crimes are still a nationwide issue. the fbi sharing nearly 7300 hate crimes were documented in 2021, nearly two-thirds of reported nationwide incidents involved black victims in california. the fbi observed a 30% increase in reported hate crimes. >> the highest level since 2001 reported hate crimes targeting black people were the most prevalent increasing just over 12% reported anti-asian attacks rose nearly 178% and anti hispanic anti latino attacks increased 30%

between 2020 2021. report hate incidents involving the lgbtq community rose. 48% and hate crime events involving religious bias and antisemitism increased. 32 1% were hoping that people come when they know that this is something of tremendous interest to the fbi. the agency admitting the latest national data which covers 2021 is incomplete. >> this year the fbi began transitioning to what it describes as a new more accurate crime reporting system known as neighbors. unfortunately in that transition, there are technical requirements that departments have to put into place as a result. thousands of police departments, including those in new york and los angeles did not report hate crime data. i do want to emphasize that the data that the fbi collects >> is only one data point in our understanding of the national problems. a crime were actually very confident that hate crimes are on the

forecast again, things are going to start to slowly warm up next weekend. but just got to get through the next couple of day, stephanie. just got to thank you, brittany, for your health this morning. last week we went over the foods that you probably want to avoid because they can interrupt our ability to fall asleep and stay asleep. so back with us for part 2 of this discussion is our health expert karen owoc. she's going to share her tips on food that can help promote a better night's sleep. good morning to you, karen. >> good morning. i hope you got a good night's you know, we always try to do when we this early in the morning. as you know, a lot of our crew members, you know, are ups and co 2 in the coming in for the early morning show. but, you know, we love it and we love, you know, seeing you every you know, first of all, kind of walk us through. >> what we should know when we are constantly depriving our bodies of sleep. what happens?

>> well, cognitive decline. so i don't know if you've ever experienced kind of that. forget fullness that that fogginess, then you don't get enough sleep. also cardiovascular problems. you know, when you don't get enough sleep increases your release of cortisol, which is damaging to the arteries. also, if you ever get a little cranky you when you don't get no sleep, all those mood swings have an effect and then weakened immune system again because of the increase in chronic inflammation. and then accidents. i hear this a lot for money. my patients who don't get a lot lot of sleep. they kind of tip and fall or they drop things. second that could have other associations that that's one of them. >> and foods should we be considering before bed time to make sure that we're getting a better night's sleep. >> number 1, 5 are still a lot of those whole grain foods on the always talking about fruits and vegetables, beans

like booms at because it helps you get a deeper sleep. some of the studies show that that when you eat these foods, you don't get that that release when you eat high fiber foods, you increase metabolism and also your blood sugar didn't go into this huge spike and we talked about that last week when your blood sugar spikes its cause is a year. the our stress home runs to go at a whack. and also it decreases melatonin and melatonin. is that health, sleep regulator? >> and, you know, foods to eat before bed time. you also mention cam a meal t big fan of that. i try to drink a cup of that before i go to bed every you also, i believe mentioned almond milk that something that you really want to talk about magnesium, rich foods are really important because not only is important

to get deep sleep but also to be able to stay asleep in the magnesium, which foods like nuts and seeds and >> the bananas. those are all good sources of magnesium. >> what i like to make is an almond milk in i i make it because of the fact it's made with almonds. but also date states are also good source of magnesium and then they they also help get that and the rest the store to sleep as well as being able to stay soy is also a good 1, 2, and then the tart cherry juice tart cherry juice is very different from of the regular black cherry deuce tart. cherry juice is higher in at the sign it it also helps to increase melatonin. so again, it's going to help you sleep. but i like to do is take the camel

meals. he and then steep it in so warm tart cherry juice. so you kind of have a a double whammy right there that also least. and yeah, it also kiwis are good. a good source of of sleep. it is a good sleep food because they found that it helps you fall asleep faster. so one of the things i like to make is with the almond milk. so that's helping you get a deeper sleep in helping you sleep longer and then also mixing it with the kiwis that going to help you fall asleep faster. so it also includes chia seeds. chia seeds are one of the highest myth foods in a magnesium. so really good healthy thing to eat. wow. that looks delicious. things. yeah, you could have some, you know, maybe we should. we should have you come back in person sometime maybe in the new year. you can show us, you know how you make some of those healthy foods. >> oh, yeah, definitely. and i have them our web site too. it

>> alright, running a marathon is tough enough. but check out these runners braving the elements in antarctica. 61 long-distance runners completed the antarctic ice marathon in freezing snowy conditions. this week. britney and at some points temperatures hit. i know negative 7 degrees fahrenheit. i mean, it's not really something that not people already. haha, you know, and the feeling is mutual exo. ireland's sean tobin won the race, setting a new record time of 2 hours. 53 minutes backup easy from the u.s. won the women's in 4 hours. 24 minutes and 15 seconds. very impressive year. and that was the this is the event 17th year. it was held. so, yeah, just really inspiring to just seeing people out in those conditions and on the peninsula. the samaritan house hosted a drive-thru toy a drive-thru giveaway in san mateo saturday. hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of
