or so. tomorrow around noon ish for that high tide. so we have the king tides in place. still with us this weekend from the skies, some mostly sunny will give a nod to although some scattered clouds trying to move in here for tonight. and tomorrow, particularly there's your beauty shot of the east bay shoreline. so kind of clearing up some of this last-minute hayes temperature check for you. got 37 for the bottle. 46 for san francisco. 38 for antioch. and 44 for san jose. contrast for you about a half-dozen degrees behind. so will be a bit cooler this weekend. but that's nothing compared to what's coming our way. the wind somewhat calm a little bit offshore. they are just a touch. the breakdown for you today. some morning haze, but that gives way to mostly sunny today. some scattered clouds again by sunset. temperatures for highs will be around. 60 is still a bit on the cool side. but it's around that holiday season. anyway and next week looks like santa is bringing us some rain into much of next week. i'll have more on that in a bit, stephanie. all right. thanks very much, dave. >> police in san francisco continue to investigate a

double homicide in san francisco's bayview district. 2 young girls, a 5 year-old and a one year-old were found dead at a home there. officers responded to the property bureau just before a friday morning. police say they arrested a 34 year-old woman policia green and booked her into county jail on 2 counts of homicide. we will keep you updated on this story on air and online at kron 4 dot com. and a judge has granted an emergency order banning the city of san francisco from sweeping homeless encampments and destroying an house people's belongings. the advocacy group lawyers committee for civil rights bay area says this is a huge early win in their lawsuit against the city. they say the city doesn't follow its own policies for clearing people out. such is giving people advance notice of encampment, sweeps in connecting people to support services. in response city reps say the city does offer the homeless resources and information on shelters before ordering them to leave an area. in the east bay. a

motorcyclist is dead after crashing his bike. it happened while he was escorting his father's remains to a cemetery. 34 the 34 year-old identified as c up helly little waukee of oakland was thrown from his bike after hitting a curb thursday. he's been traveling eastbound on macarthur boulevard near high street. milwaukee was streaming his ride in the funeral procession live on facebook when the crash happened. no other cars were involved. more than 3 years after a deadly boat fire off santa cruz island. new evidence reveals the divers trapped on board tried to escape the early morning inferno claimed the lives of 33 divers and one crew member. most of them from the bay area. it happened on labor day 2019. now, initially investigators believe the people may have died in their sleep. the people on board friday morning, the la times reported new evidence suggesting the divers were awake and searching for a way off the boat. the report describes video but

investigators discovered from a victim's phone capturing that calm but urgent search for a way out. investigators believe all 34 people died of smoke inhalation. and the only survivors, we're 5 crew members who jumped into the water. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. and twitter will now show its users how many views their tweet tweets are getting you counts are now available on android and ios devices and the web version as well. according to twitter support, view count, will give the user more information about how much visibility their posts are getting. and gun legislation will be front and center in sacramento and state lawmakers return in the new year. there's one bill seeking to make restrictions to california is concealed carry laws. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace spoke with the senator who is sponsoring a bill and opponents who say they'll fight the proposal. >> concealed carry weapons permits more than 200,000 californians have them known a ccw as they allow people to

carry yet. keep out of sight, specific weapons like handguns. but if a bill by senator anthony portantino becomes law guidelines to obtain such a permit will change, it will make california city for safer. he argues noting his proposal would annex specific criteria before ccw permit applications are approved while the exact language of the bill is not set in stone. portantino hopes to model it based on another bill he introduced last year that narrowly failed. it called for ccw applicants to be at least 21 years old. have a minimum of 16 hours of firearms training, provide character references and go through a background check. it also said people could have permits taken away if permit holders have been found to abuse alcohol or drugs or are deemed a danger to themselves or others were going to standardize the issue of permits. and that's critical. we're trying to create concrete criteria to say >> that that does there's a difference between the hunter, the police officer, those who are protecting their own home

vosot versus those who are going to inflict harm on the proposal also seeks to ban ccw permit holders from carrying weapons in certain spaces, including government buildings, hospitals and amusement parks. it's one thing to protect your your private property, your home, but that's different than taking your gun to disneyland. you don't need your weapon to go. and i'm bo portantino proposal comes after the u.s. supreme court this year struck down a new york law that require people to show a specific need to carry a gun in public. that ruling applied to 8 states with similar laws, including california. but it also allowed those states to come up with new less restrictive gun control measures. still, gun advocacy groups argue portantino proposal. >> goes too far. senator portantino is bill. >> absolutely. and directly violates the rights of law abiding citizens. is the executive director of the gun owners of california political action committee. he argues the bill will hurt responsible gun owners concealed carry weapons permit holders. >> they are not though the people who are misusing firearms. so why would we want

thursday night saying that contract did not do enough to address the high cost of living here in the bay area. the union president accusing macy's of prioritizing profits over workers well-being. >> the wages an adequate. the health care is really bad they want to lay off the most importantly, they want to lay off full-time employees with a, you know, a lot of a pre benefits and replace them with part-time workers with no benefits. that's the big issue. we have it. >> the strike is scheduled to end tonight and in a statement to kron 4 macy's. so the safety of their colleagues and customers remains a top priority. and the store will stay open. >> it's a pretty pleasant weekend, by the way, to get that last-minute holiday shopping done for today, for example, looking at 52 by 11 in the afternoon, some of those scattered clouds creeping on in here for making for a nice sunset as well. and not too bad into tomorrow. but next week, unsettled. your next week, unsettled. your forecast is next.

presents so far, according to my producer, you know, she's bffs with santa. so, you know, all right. let's head over to dave's bar with a look at our forecast. take stephanie. good morning, everybody. and this is we're looking at the east bay shoreline kind of hazy sunshine at the start. i'm not a whole lot in the way of some fog. but around the central valley, they're kind of battling a little bit more on the way >> of some fog with all of that. a quick look at those temperatures. we have a lot of 40's on the board. 37 going on for livermore at this hour. 39 from a bottle. 46, san francisco. and 44 meanwhile for san jose. so for today, we'll keep it mostly sunny, on balance. a little intrusion of some cloud cover later in the day today to make maybe for nice sunset and so forth, but relatively uneventful. that's today. and tomorrow. things really change as we start to get into next week, handing it over to future cast. for the little wrinkle. want to mention here as we get into the evening hours there, some scattered clouds actually clears up for tonight. looks pretty good for your sunday before things start to change. by the time we get into sunday

night monday and next week, again, very different for today. this a flood advisory that's for the king tides, highest tide as expected. the 11 o'clock hour today. in the 12 o'clock hour for tomorrow. again, that delay always happens and it's because you've got the sun and the moon pulling on us like this. at the same time. so we have these king tides. here's the breakdown for you, sunny, start late clouds, as i mentioned, cole, with the lower to middle 60's tomorrow, scattered clouds still cool, 60 ish. and then for next week, unsettled showers and rain. it's going to vary by day by day. we'll be following all of this, of course. but it's monday night on word that looks to be unsettled and even into the following weekend as well. we're kind of monitoring how we're going to ring in the new year. 61, san francisco, mostly sunny. again, those afternoon clouds, 63 for open. 64 san jose. the big board here. you have a lot of 50's and places like antioch, a 57. those places usually roast and the july august and september month. 65 up to santa rosa and the east bay shoreline treated to those mid 60's. next couple

of days. again. pretty good for the weekend. and then it gets to be a different story in the monday. we'll talk more about that longer range forecast for you coming up in a bit. stephanie. all right. thanks very much, dave. >> and take a look at this. the king tides that day was just talking about a flooded parts of mill valley on friday, the highest tides of the year returning to the bay area this week. and we are expecting another round today. kron four's gayle ong has the late has the details on this phenomenon that scientists say is giving them a preview of the future. >> the mill valley sausalito bike path flooded friday morning as the king tides returned to the bay area. but it didn't stop people from biking and walking through several inches of water county redirected traffic around flooding at the intersection of highway one in the southbound highway. 101 off-ramp. but this scene quite normal for locals. the winter solstice is highest happens and it's all gravity. the astronomical high tides happened in the winter when the sun moon and earth the line producing the highest

tidal effects of the year. john haskins is a mill valley native. he researches water quality down in elkhorn slu in the monterey bay. these are kind of good times feel that find out. okay. where does it get flooding? >> what are the what are the facts that are happening? >> the king tides also made a splash at pier 14 along the embarcadero in san francisco. but spectators not impressed. i thought they were big waves, but they're not big waves. last time i came out here, i got play with water. >> this is what the embarcadero looks like. 2 years ago. the rain push the water so high. the area temporarily closed. >> back in mill valley ups managing to get through the flooded waters. but this suv left stranded in the parking lot while bystanders enjoy the natural phenomenon. scientists say these waters are a glimpse into the future communities. >> in different areas have to come together. giveaways and

>> the california king tides project monitor sea level rise and are encouraging observers to submit pictures on their web site to help document community's most vulnerable to flooding. and observers are urged to use caution when visiting the tides. the next surge in san francisco will be around 11, 30. >> morning saturday reporting from san francisco, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> happening now, a spare the air alert is in effect across the bay area. now through the holiday weekend due to excessive pollution in the region. that means that any burning wood or solid fuel is banned. a massive winter storm continues to sweep across the u.s.. here's a look at buffalo, new york. >> well, as you can see, there's strong winds and lots of snow on the ground there. governor kathy hochul declaring a state of emergency in that area. and let's take a

look at long friday afternoon. wow, check that out. the area completely flooded after heavy rainfall from the storm. the rain on the ground now starting to become ice as temperatures keep on dropping. the storm also knocking out power to millions of customers nationwide. our evan lambert has more on the efforts to get those lights back on. >> no ice, bitter cold and damaging winds sweeping across much of the u.s. this weekend before christmas. the wind close to 70 miles per hour or tropical storm force have already left more than a million americans in the dark. one of the states with the most outages, north carolina had more than 100,000 as of this afternoon in the raleigh, durham area. nearly 50,000 homes were without power. and in new england, 10's of thousands have experienced outages from the boston area

outdoors. it's been a kind of little chilly in the morning on. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. a little cooler today than we saw from yesterday. >> a little bit of haze is kind of left over, but on balance, we're going to see things really open up nicely for some. got the water called is going on. but sunny, as we get into the early part of the day. now, late afternoon and evening, we do have some of those scattered clouds that will intrude a bit. but we're basing on the southern edge of most of the traffic coming in from the pacific for right now. not related to all of that. this is an astrological are astronomical. a feature should say areas of flooding going on. flood advisory has been posted. this is near the ocean near the bay because of the king tides. that's today continuing in a little bit on sunday to high tide expected during the day. 11 o'clock ish for saturday for sunday. we're looking after the noon hour. that's when reached their zenith. 45 for santa rosa going on for right now. 42 for napa. 45 for valais 40 for antioch and a chilly 37 for concord and livermore. livermore valley could see the colder air drainage factor. 44

san jose and here's the contrast for you just from yesterday. we're almost a half a dozen degrees trailing in that winds pretty much offshore for right now. not doing much and they won't do much today. high temperatures in the upper 50's and scratching into the lower 60's for an ultimate high. that's today. and tomorrow. next yeah. things change in a big way. we've got presents coming our way in the term of liquid rain coming our way. we'll have more on that longer range forecast a bit. stephanie. >> quite a present from the weather. thank you so much. in the east bay, a search is underway for the driver involved in a fatal hit and run. it happened wednesday night near buchanan field airport in pacheco kron four's philippe djegal shares. what we know about the victim. >> described as a matriarch and the reason her family is living the american dream friends and loved ones confirmed. 54 year-old money selling via lost her life and pacheco wednesday night. >> the california highway patrol says just before 9 o'clock that evening, a woman was standing outside her car on morse drive near aria drive

when another vehicle hit her and her car then left the scene without stopping the contra costa county coroner's office has yet to release her identity, but friends and family say they are mourning loss. >> for more than 3 years and owner of residual sugar wine bar in concord says via was a dedicated employee, considered the bars. mom. she was in charge of the kitchen and on a nightly basis. he says she would serve co-worker's home cooked meals. she prepared at her own house. she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, a family friend says she spent her last day with her grandchildren. >> she is survived by her brothers, sisters, husband, 2 sons and 3 grandkids. meanwhile, the chp is not sharing a description of the driver or the vehicle involved in the deadly collision. >> in contra costa county, philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> in the south bay, the san jose police department has come under some scrutiny for

the way they allegedly used their police dogs. santa clara county sheriff's sergeant allen says he's witnessed more than 200 police dog bites at san jose's main jail infirmary. he says many of these injuries comes from the dogs being sent after people hiding from officers, group of local organizations are coming together to change the state law and how law enforcement agencies handle their canine unit. but sjpd says their canine members go through intensive ongoing training to ensure the pump, the safety of the public and other officers kane can't. canine handlers are required to report all dog bites. the founder of the phil cryptocurrency exchange ftx sam bankman-fried. he's the founder of that exchange. he's now under house arrest. he's now at his family's home in stamford, conn force. justin campbell has the latest. >> you can't even get down this road. police have it blocked off. there is a private security company that is here from los angeles. is sam bankman-fried lives behind

these barricades in his parents house. he's out on up on 200 in 50 million dollars. his parents put up their house 4 million dollars, a part of that bond package. but bankman-fried accused of fraud and conspiracy in money laundering. both of his parents are stanford law professors, but it's not been a great day for bankman-fried. according to court documents just unsealed today, his ex-girlfriend, caroline ellison come fast and she knew what she was doing was illegal. she has pleaded guilty to criminal charges and cooperating with authorities. we spoke to the business editor of crypto publication cointelegraph about what he thinks that allegedly happened at ftx. but it turns out that there was no actual bitcoin being held on my that money. >> was being used was being taken and siphon for some other business operations or perhaps for some other expenses. so he's looking at about 115 years in prison if

he's convicted. so right now we're going to be moving toward the the trial phase and the investigation phase and then we'll see what comes out of that men freed will remain under house arrest with an ankle monitor. he's facing the possibility life in prison. 115 years. it's an ongoing story work. >> continuing coverage of it. you can stay with the latest on kron 4 dot com reporting here in stamford, justin campbell, >> alright, meet page e magoo. that's a stuffed toy pigeon who was stolen from a girl visiting san francisco earlier this month. police say the girl was in with her mom at a restaurant when someone stole their backpack and piggy magoon was inside that backpack. 13 days later. police say they were able to identify the person who took the backpack and will do and officers served a search warrant at that suspect's home and recovered the stuffed animal. they say the suspect was not home at the time and are still looking for them.

>> in the north bay, police in petaluma are looking for a person they say attempted to snatched child from his mother. it happened in the area of howard street and western avenue at around 9 thursday night. the woman and her 3 year-old son were walking according to officers when she stelter child pull away. she said a man was grabbing at her child's hand. the woman yelled causing the man to let go and run across the street and into a white four-door sedan. no arrests have been made at this hour. as of this hour, anyone with information is asked to please call petaluma police. and a suspect is under arrest after multiple reports of fake citations issue to park vehicles near a santa cruz beach. police say damian vega, a 19 year-old watsonville resident was arrested for admitting to the crime. they say the suspect denied receiving any payments from the scheme. the scam citations had a qr code that lead potential victims to a website

crew member. most of them from the bay area. it happened on labor day 2019. initially investigators believe the people may have died in their sleep friday morning. the la times reported new evidence suggesting the divers were awake and searching for a way off that boat. the report describes video investigators recovered from a victim's phone capturing the calm but urgent search for a way out. they believe all 34 people died of smoke inhalation. the only survivors were 5 crew members who jumped into the water. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. and twitter will now show its users. how many views their tweets are getting. you counts are available on android and ios devices and the web version of twitter as well. according to twitter support team view count will give the user more information about how much of his ability their posts are getting. and gun legislation will be front and center in sacramento and state lawmakers return in the new

year. there's one bill seeking to make restrictions to california's concealed carry laws. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace spoke with the senator who is sponsoring the bill and opponents who say they'll fight the proposal. >> concealed carry weapons permits more than 200,000 californians have them known a ccw as they allow people to carry yet. keep out of sight, specific weapons like handguns. but if a bill by senator anthony portantino becomes law guidelines to obtain such a permit will change. it will make california city for safer. he argues noting his proposal would annex specific criteria before ccw permit applications are approved while the exact language of the bill is not set in stone. portantino hopes to model it based on another bill he introduced last year that narrowly failed. it called for ccw applicants to be at least 21 years old. have a minimum of 16 hours of firearms training, provide character references and go through a background it also said people could have permits

taken away if permit holders have been found to abuse alcohol or drugs or are deemed a danger to themselves or others were going to standardize the issue of permits. and that's critival. we're trying to create concrete criteria to say >> that that does. there's that difference between the hunter, the police officer, those who are protecting their own home vosot versus those who are going to inflict harm on others. the proposal also seeks to ban ccw permit holders from carrying weapons in certain spaces, including government buildings, hospitals and amusement parks. it's one thing to protect your your private property, your home, but that's different than taking your gun to disneyland. you don't need your weapon to go. and i'm bo portantino proposal comes after the u.s. supreme court this year struck down a new york law that require people to show a specific need to carry a gun in public. that ruling applied to 8 states with similar laws, including california. but it also allowed those states to come up with new less restrictive gun control measures. still, gun advocacy groups argue

laundering. both of his parents are stanford law professors, but it's not been a great day for bankman-fried. according to court documents just unsealed today, his ex-girlfriend, caroline ellison come fast and she knew what she was doing was illegal. she has pleaded guilty to criminal charges and cooperating with authorities. we spoke to the business editor of crypto publication cointelegraph about what he thinks that allegedly happened at ftx. but it turns out that there was no actual bitcoin being held on my that money. >> was being used was being taken and siphon for some other business operations or perhaps or some other expenses. so he's looking at about 115 years in prison if he's convicted. so right now we're going to moving toward trial phase and the investigation phase and we'll see what comes out of that man freed will remain under house arrest with an ankle monitor. he's facing the possibility of life in prison. 115 years.

and destroying unhoused people's belongings. the advocacy group lawyers committee for civil rights bay area says this is a huge, early win and their lawsuit against the city. they say the city doesn't follow its own policies for clearing people out such as giving the unhoused advanced notice of encampment sweeps and connecting people to support services. in response, the city reps say the city does offer the homeless resources and information on shelters before ordering them to leave an area. in the east bay. a motorcyclist is dead after crashing his bike. it happened while he was escorting his father's remains to a cemetery. the 34 year-old identified as c up helly little waukee of oakland was thrown from the bike after hitting a curb thursday. he's been traveling eastbound on macarthur boulevard near high street. milwaukee was streaming his ride in the funeral procession live on facebook when he crashed. no other cars were involved. more than 3 years after a deadly boat fire off santa cruz

island. new evidence reveals the divers trapped on board tried to escape that early lives of 33 divers and one crew member, most of them from the bay area. it happened a labor day, 2019 and initially investigators believe that the people of the victims, they have died in their sleep. but friday morning, the la times reported new evidence suggesting the divers were awake and searching for a way off the boat. the report describes video investigators recovered from a victim's phone capturing that calm but urgent search for a way out. investigators believe all 34 people died of smoke inhalation. the only survivors were 5 crew members who jumped into the water. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. and twitter will now show its users. how many views their tweets are getting. the accounts are now available on android and ios devices and the web version as well. according to twitter, support of u cal will give the

user more information about how much of his ability their posts are getting. gun legislation will be front and center in sacramento and state lawmakers return in the new year. there's one bill seeking to make restrictions to california's concealed carry laws. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace spoke with the senator who is sponsoring the bill and opponents who say they'll fight the proposal. >> concealed carry weapons permits more than 200,000 californians have them known a ccw as they allow people to carry yet. keep out of sight, specific weapons like handguns. but if a bill by senator anthony portantino becomes law guidelines to obtain such a permit will change, it will make california city for safer. he argues noting his proposal would annex specific criteria before ccw permit applications are approved while the exact language of the bill is not set in stone. portantino hopes to model it based on another bill he introduced last year that narrowly failed. it called for ccw applicants to

be at least 21 years old. have a minimum of 16 hours of firearms training, provide character references and go through a background it also said people could have permits taken away if permit holders have been found to abuse alcohol or drugs or are deemed a danger to themselves or others were going to standardize the issue of permits. and that's critical. we're trying to create concrete criteria to say >> that that does. there's that difference between the hunter, the police officer, those who are protecting their own home vosot versus those who are going to inflict harm on others. the proposal also seeks to ban ccw permit holders from carrying weapons in certain spaces, including government buildings, hospitals and amusement parks. it's one thing to protect your your private property, your home, but that's different than taking your gun to disneyland. you don't need your weapon to go. and i'm bo portantino proposal comes after the u.s. supreme court this year struck down a new york law that require people to show a specific need to carry a gun in public. that

ruling applied to 8 states with similar laws, including california. but it also allowed those states to come up with new less restrictive gun control measures. still, gun advocacy groups argue portantino proposal. >> goes too far. senator portantino is bill. >> absolutely. and directly violates the rights of law abiding citizens. semper ed is the executive director of the gun owners of california political action committee. he argues the bill will hurt responsible gun owners concealed carry weapons permit holders. >> they are not though the people who are misusing firearms. so why would we want to have more concealed carry weapons permit holders? if you know, they are the most law abiding citizens in california. >> and that was a tom wallace reporting for us. if the bill becomes law, gun advocates say they'll take it to court. in national news. the final report from the january 6 committee is now public. it states that former president trump engaged in a, quote, multi part conspiracy to reverse the outcome of the 2020 election and that he,

>> people who overcame tremendous health challenges to successfully received a lifesaving organ. joining us live now to talk about the importance of organ donation is meghan mehta, who is a heart transplant patients and survivor. thank you so much, megan, for joining us this morning. hi, thank you so much for having me. and i understand you're also a student at uc berkeley right now. i'm a graduate. so go bears. >> definitely go. bears on the second year, which is hard to believe it's going by so fast. my goodness you know, we're so happy to have you here with us this morning of you receive treatment and a successful heart transplant at stanford medicine, children's health, several years ago. tell us a bit about your journey to getting a new heart. absolutely. so when i was 8 years old, i was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. >> it was not something i boy, i was born with. it just sort of happened. and i was stable for 4 years. but my condition started to deteriorate really quickly when i was 12 and so

after 4 months on the waitlist at the status priority, i received a life-saving heart transplant in 2016. >> wow. incredible out and tell us a bit about with that recovery process was like for you. once you received that transplant. >> absolutely. it was. it was a big shock. like i remember right after my transplant. i could constantly hear my heart beat. it was just such a wonderful reminder that like i survived and i'm going to be not only okay, but i finally have the capacity in the health and the ability to really live my life and be a kid so it was just incredible to be able to. i'm able to walk around you. for i would. the recovery was really quick and everything has been smooth sailing ever we're so glad to hear that. >> you're also a big advocate for organ donation. you do a lot of work yourself, you know, tell us a bit about some of the misconceptions about

organ donation and why you feel it's so important that people donate. >> absolutely. there's a lot of misconceptions about like my my religion doesn't support it or if they on the donor, they want to try to save my life first. and that's absolutely false. a lot of the times the health workers don't even know. skews me and a little bit of a cough. they don't even know if you are a donor until the very, very and it is always their priority to save your life for us to make sure that you are going to be okay. donation and being a donor is a very, very last resort at the very end. >> and all major religion support organ donation. i think it's really important for people to register as organ donors and consider this because it's an opportunity to be someone's hero and leave such a wonderful, beautiful legacy of saving someone's life. after you pass after you pass and in many cases, multiple people's lives through organ donation, you can save up to 8 lives and then he'll up to 75 lives with tissue donation and speaking

of, you know, people becoming heroes when they choose to donate. >> have you been able to be in touch with the family your of the person who donated to you? >> unfortunately, i have not been able to get in touch with them yet, but i know many people that have and i hope to do that sometime in the future. and if you were somehow able to get in touch with them, what would you like to share with them? >> oh, man, i don't. i don't even know if i could put into just the gift of life, but they've given me the capacity to not only make it to high school, the graduate high school and start college in and really expands college like i've join us ready. and in many, many clubs and study abroad this past summer, it ability in the freedom to really live my life. i like to can i like to describe this like something? my feelings us color. for example, when i was on the waitlist and before my transplant, everything was sort of just like a dull gray, like life just felt very gray. and after my transplant, it
