not much of a player not going too much for our temperatures, but we are seeing a little bit of the way of some fog issues going on in central valley and that's spreading aloft. >> a little bit into the carquinez strait that may suppress temperatures a little bit for today. we still have this issue, but the king tide just the last big day of it and a high tide is expected around noon or so. and so the advisory tempted use here until 2 or 3 or something. but again, the zenith is expected to in the 12 o'clock hour. again, the high cloudiness is what we're expected today tonight. thickening up just a touch. and then it gets interesting into next week out. it's going to be our president for the holidays. 40's going on well inland, as you can see. but 50's hanging on around the perimeter of the bay for the most part. 48 san jose got 48 up to santa rosa for quick comparison because yesterday was kind of a chilly start. got a couple degrees ahead, as you can see in some locations. but trailing in a word at this hour, the breakdown for you again, kind of variable clouds on a mild wind, high temperatures, upper 50's to the lower 60's. but again, big changes into next

week. we'll be covering about that rain coming our way in the doses that are being promised. stephanie. >> all right. looking forward to that. thank you so much, dave. in the east bay, oakland, police released new surveillance video of a burglary. let's take a look at that video. now. this happened on martin luther king way near 32nd street around 04:00am monday. you can see 2 people attaching an iron chain to a gate. police say the suspect then ran to cars into the building. one car is described as a 90's block or a green toyota camry. and moments later, a silver or beige ford explorer excel u.s. possibly a 2004 model reversed into the front entrance of the building. police say that's when the 3 suspects used a chain attached to the suv to pry open the front security gate. they went inside and then left the scene. no word yet on what exactly was taken from the building. no arrest made yet. another earthquake rattled parts of northern california this time on

christmas eve at 11:30am, this also in humboldt county? the 4.2 magnitude quake happened just 5 miles east of huntsville and 6 and a half miles southwest of rio. dell, no reports of injuries or damages. you may recall from our coverage. rio dell was the epicenter of a deadly earthquake just days ago on december. 20th that killed 2 people and left at least a dozen others injured. the power has largely since been restored to customers in that area. the family of a chp officer hurt on the job got a special holiday surprise in a video shared by uc davis health. you can see officer aaron weicker getting a warm greeting from his fellow officers and santa as he left the hospital this week. then later with santa's help, he was able to surprise his kids outside of his home. officer weicker spent the last 2 months recovering after he was hit and seriously injured by a suspected dui driver back in october. his fellow officers

shared a message with drivers to prevent dangerous incidents from happening again. >> well, first, things don't drink and would be a sober driver. buzzed driving drunk same thing prescription medication, illegal drugs, marijuana, all those things driving tired. don't do it. the other factor is distracted driving. stay off your phone. >> it's so nice to see santa and the officer seeing a meeting, family members there. the chp says weicker and his family are very thankful for the community's support and prayers at this time. some people spent their christmas eve looking for last-minute gifts for christmas while others decided to also spend the time with family kron four's. amanda hari spoke with shoppers in walnut creek. >> it was the night before christmas when all through broadway plaza shoppers were looking for last-minute presents. josh stevens says he purposefully waits until

christmas eve to do his shopping. what i like about shopping last minute for a few items says there's no lines and it's pretty quiet. >> and i can holiday shopping because the crowds are like doing well. others were out spending time with family. i've already done my shopping. just enjoying being with these guys. patricia haley spent the afternoon shopping with her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend. and you've got all these bags. are you buying gifts for yourself tonight or you buy gifts for other people? >> a guy like you all see a czar says she's lucky because delta airlines sponsored last minute shopping earlier this week when she was flying home for the holidays. her flight was overbooked. so her boyfriend, as the airline, if there was any compensation for switching to a later flight look like, yes, you know, there's >> $3,000. each compensation well like, okay. we explains splurge. the last chair go.

shea family was out shopping for their presence together. i issues they say they prefer to spend that time together than buy gifts for each other apart because you work and the have the person that got to be, too gives it and spend time. >> family. >> and happening now a long time tradition of bringing meals to people in need is underway in san francisco. the salvation army is working with local organizations on this effort. kron four's camila barco is live for us now in san francisco and camila. how is the turnout looking this christmas morning? stephanie. all i have to say is that they're delivering and giving out 4,000 meals. i mean, if that doesn't say about the need and how >> big the salvation are the, you know, the work that you guys are doing. i don't know. what does that with me? i have captain chris weichel. a join me live at the salvation army behind me. we just see cars pulling up here constantly. how is this all working out?

>> yeah. so this takes an army of volunteers. we have over 200 people who have given their time on christmas day to come out and serve their community. >> you you were we were just talking about who can come here. you guys are helping out correctly. yeah, this is that we're serving over 4,000 seniors in san francisco. all different parts of the city >> and these are seniors with some need. and we're so we're giving them a meal and we've got a volunteers delivering that meal and just bring some holiday cheer and some some hope and let them know that they're loved thought of. >> you know, we're in, you know, 2 years after the pandemic is in need a greater or less this year, it's it's more with had increase in our increase for service. about 30 35%. >> and this year. so this is pretty significant. need. >> and have you spoken to some of the people who are coming out here today? what are they saying? it's christmas day a but not as cold. yeah, i know it's great. last year we did.

this is pouring his i've been talking with the volunteers who are coming out to drive. i asked some what's your christmas tradition? what your holiday tradition. >> and they point to this, they say this is what they do. this with the family doesn't christmas day, which is really special all right. well, and the next hour, they will still be giving out a few 100 more meals. and after that, they will have completed. >> 4,000 deliver here at this christmas morning. i'll send it back to you. wow. 4,000 meals. it's absolutely incredible. and so heartwarming to see people dedicate their time on this christmas morning to help the community. thank you so much. camila. >> coming up on the kron 4 morning news, a winter storm is giving travelers nationwide of a headache. >> how some two loads of snot covered laundry. only one will be sanitized. wait, what? adding lysol laundry sanitizer kills 99.9% of bacteria detergent alone, can't.

2,600 people are waking up t e- this christmas morning to no power. you're taking a live look at the pg outage map showing the areas without power. no word yet on what caused this outage. the power is expected to be restored by 11, 15 this morning. and steph curry will be out for at least 2 more weeks on injury. he injured his left shoulder against the indiana pacers back on december 14th. the warriors say recent revaluation shows that curry is making good progress. and since he's been out, the warriors have lost 3 of their

to put the logs and the matchsticks away this morning because of this, a spare. the air alert is in effect across the bay area through today because of excessive pollution in our region. >> that means burning wood or any solid fuel is banned. so maybe stream the yule log off youtube or find an alternative. today. the only exception is if a home's only source of heat is a wood-burning fireplace. all right. take a let live. look now at downtown san francisco. this morning. you can see a bit of that haze out there, but also looking like it's a bit of a cold start to the morning as well. let's check in with day before conditions out doors a day. >> good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and i know it's kind of a buzzkill here on christmas day can have those fires going tonight and so forth. and but hey, at least have the rain that's delayed until later in the week. so we've got the sunshine going on, hazy sunshine at that. partially the pollution part of it is also the high cloudiness going on. chilly start. but it's

pretty close to where it was yesterday. highs may not actually get as warm as yesterday. we're going to be in winter like weather upper 50's lower 60's going on. but lots of sun to kind of cheer your mood here. a bit lower 50's line up the east bay shoreline for now. 45 fremont inland member. we have a lot of 30's yesterday morning this morning. we're starting off course a little later in the morning, though. but 40's, you can see the far east bay with 48 at the santa rosa. 48 also for san jose storm tracker 4. again, some of the high cloudiness will get today. outside of that. the real cloudiness doesn't get in here until tonight into tomorrow. building up for the rain event coming our way, areas of flooding. this has to do with the king tides. i mentioned this earlier were expected to reach the zenith it around 12 o'clock or so. and the advisory will tentatively be retired about to what's that up there? it's a flood watch that's been posted because of rain is coming our way. let's hand it over future cast for again for today's of some high cloudiness will be spread by some variable cloudy skies during the day with some stratus thrown in there, too.

then we get further out until sunday night us tonight. now building up with the cloud cover. and then. lots of clouds tomorrow. and then by tomorrow night, here we go at looks to arrive around midnight or so. it's a kind of an estimation we're working with. that's the more intense rain focus to the north. that's this wave successive wezel different story here. getting a little more in the south bay. as you can see, this takes us now out to tuesday morning as you'll notice in the heavy rains. this go around, we'll favor pretty much mid bay points to the south at all. yes, mountain snows come with the package as well. a look at the winds today, somewhat uneventful with the hazy sunshine going to be talking about through tonight even tomorrow and then whack. this may be overdoing it because we don't have any statements for this yet. kind of pay attention, maybe breath. sweat has some statements later on. national weather service. tries to keep about a good 24 hours advance on maybe by tonight that might issue something for a wind advisory covering all about. so what we've got is mostly sunny holiday cheer today got 60 ish for a high for tomorrow.

turning cloudy, cool showers. rain overnight will be well after sunset and then into next week we've got showers and rain. windy mountain snows all part of the package. 2 major ways with this. the first will monday night through tuesday and then another one as we get thursday into friday. those will be as potent. but they'll be worth noting and then continue into the weekend and into the following week as well. looks like 60 san francisco today. again, scattered clouds, mild. 63 open. 66. meanwhile, 4 san jose, not a lot of mercury movement going on today. we keep in the lower 60's a little chillier off towards the central valley because of that high. that acts as a lid over some of that fog, you get somewhat more overcast skies hard for the sun to get through. some of that in the temperatures are reflecting that next few days come out like this. here comes the rain monday night tuesday. we'll have more on that long-range a bit. stephanie, thanks a in y- lot. dave. >> in the east bay, one person is dead after a christmas eve shooting in oakland. it happened on international boulevard just before 10

yesterday morning. police found the victim with gunshot wounds. paramedics tried treating that victim but they died at the scene. no word on a suspect at this time. police are investigating a plane crash that injured one person at the livermore airport. it happened yesterday at the terminal circle near for highway 5.80, around 05:00pm yesterday we're told the crash happened in an open field near the runway shortly after takeoff. the pilot was the only one on board the plane at the time he was injured in the crash. no word on the extent of those injuries or how the plane crashed in the first place. taking a live look now at sfo. wow. skies looking nice and clear above now, the bay area airports, many of them are pretty busy christmas day as travelers deal with weather-related flight impacts from a major storm sweeping across the northeastern part of the u.s. flight tracker. flightaware reporting 87 delays and 66 cancellations at

this moment. so far states on the east coast and in the midwest have seen blizzard conditions and freezing temperatures. kron four's gayle ong caught up with travelers who fortunately made it back home in time for christmas. passengers fresh off this united airlines flight from chicago, relieved to make it to the bay area on christmas eve. >> it all night. the wind blew liked like i've never heard so all week. severe winter storms from the midwest to east coast causing travel delays. >> and cancellations season with low almost changed her plans. i was going to cancel my husband, talked me into it. it ran a little like that is very smooth and terrific for jeff brady. things were not as smooth getting. here are my flight originated in omaha and i was actually delayed a whole day just to then get to chicago and then got a delay on a chicago today. >> to get her to sfo. finally on saturday, the board's showed most flights on time at sfo, but a different scene on

friday as millions of americans are traveling ahead of christmas tracking site. flightaware showed more than 5700 flights in or out of the united states. >> were canceled. very grateful. very grateful. this traveler is thankful to avoid at all. we're just staying in san francisco and las vegas. >> but i know a lot of people had to applied. so sorry for that. but we lucked out. and after getting stuck in the stormy weather, it was an adventure for sure. but it worked out so in the end, that's all good. >> and while the bay area was mostly spared from the st rmy conditions, the national weather service says we are expecting an active weather pattern starting monday evening. that system expected to bring some heavy rain to the region. something to think about if you are flying back to the bay area after christmas reporting from sfo, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> all right. take a look at this. a backup of travelers waiting at san jose international to check in for their flight. the airline reporting close to 19,000 delays yesterday with more

hour with a look at our christmas day forecast with dave good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. looking pretty good. this christmas day we're holding off of that rain that we marry much need. don't worry. it's going to deliver as we get into next week. however. >> because we don't have the atmosphere mixing too much. this haze is hanging around. it's that pollution issue. so eherefore, that spare the air days with us. i'm sorry about burning the logs tonight. not going to happen as we look to the other issue that we've had this weekend in late over the week, it was the king tides. the last big one is going to be today. the zenith is going to get on the 12 o'clock hour. >> and way up north, you see that green up there. that's a flood advisory that's been posted or a flood watch rather for the rain coming our way as we get into next week will be more of that yet to come and they'll be statements probably for warnings, all that sort of business lower 50's line up the east bay shoreline. for now, 53 san francisco got some 40's inland because of some fog is also a dense fog advisory that's been posted for some of those valleys up

in the north bay a little bit in the solano county in the central valley. that will also contribute to keeping those temperatures down. this is what looks like and podcast. now it clears out as we get into the afternoon. pretty late, though, in the central valley. but that still go into effect. the heating at the ground because the starts to mix out, it becomes somewhat overcast. and the days are so short here comes back again, as you can see, filling in the same type location. so in your travels early monday, you might have to deal with some patchy fog a little bit when you don't normally have to and around the carquinez strait that might remain somewhat more cloudy during the day because we have cloud cover or loft tomorrow. today, though, it's more that high cloudiness with the little bit of stratus sprinkled in upper 50's to near about 60 expected for a high. now, we do have a very interesting week coming up. coming up here, we'll talk about it coming up in just a bit. and also look at the 4 zone forecast for christmas states to all right. thanks a lot, dave. >> a happy end to a hectic holiday week for a boxing gym in pittsburgh on monday. the lion's den boxing gym was

burglarized. but as kron ipfour's philippe djegal found out the community really stepped up to help with donations. >> what seemed impossible to start the week became reality christmas and like you go through hard but what knocks you down shouldn't keep down. dozens of kids throughout the community swing by the lions den boxing gym in pittsburgh to take home their first presence of the holiday season. i'm aware that if not for generous donations from a sympathetic public nonprofit first annual holiday toy drive would not have happened if it was heartbroken to hear you know, someone don't you know, here for the community here for the kids you know, to see everybody come together and rally together and put this together for the i was just a coming. thank god for has happened on monday morning. a thief broke through the gym's front door and along with an accomplice stole a safe. it contained the gyms, rent money and the cash set aside to pay

for the holiday gifts. >> in less than a week, the community raised more than $10,000 online to keep that we drive alive. >> manager and volunteer coach wally, her always says that allowed the gym to purchase more than 400 toys for the event and the money left over will benefit the gym and its neighbors into next year. it's very important to teach these kids. also. >> that a giving back it's very important in life to be able to have your hand at all times and not always close and hanging on to oakland, native and professional trains and fights here because kids in underserved communities need be the really. just just keep on doing the best. and just keep on bigger and better things out. as for the thieves who have not been caught, merry christmas to them to, you know, i mean, >> maybe they needed it more than we did. and, you know, i said it the other day. i think maybe this is a blessing in disguise for its cause. aside from the donations, aside from

the money being recognized for doing something positive is more important. and in capsule lates the holiday spirit. >> in pittsburgh, philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> i take a look at this. 2 hikers were rescued today from the marin headlands coastline. this video shared by kron 4 viewer megan wester, lynn shows that rescue operation. 2 people became stranded on the beach when the tide started to rise. the chp says they lifted the 2 hikers out of that area. there and deliver them to firefighters waiting on the shore. no reports of any injuries. the southern marin fire district says the rescue serves as a reminder to people to please stay clear of the cliff's edge and pay attention to all posted warning signs. on the peninsula. firefighters battled the blaze saturday afternoon that damaged several

vehicles in redwood shores. it happened at an apartment complex on salt court just after 3 yesterday, firefighters arrived and found multiple vehicles engulfed in flames. the fire sent up a thick column of black smoke that could be seen for miles. it took crews about 30 minutes to knock the fire down. investigators from san mateo and redwood city fire departments responded to the scene so far. it's not clear what caused the fire. happening tonight. extra chp officers are on patrol through the end of the night. their maximum enforcement period. it is still in effect. and officers are keeping an eye out for people driving under the influence and speeding. max enforcement happens from 06:00pm to midnight. the agency says last year 28 people were killed across our state in traffic crashes during the christmas weekend. well, house lawmakers this week passed a 1.7 trillion dollars spending bill that will avoid a government shutdown and send more aid to

to a joint meeting of congress, lawmakers approved a 1.7 trillion dollar year-end spending bill sending 45 billion more to ukraine. the package also authorized the package also authorized 858 billion in america military spending and 770 billion on domestic funding for things like education, health care and veterans along with billions for local and state projects. vote yes to fulfill our duty to the american people. and to our nation's founding principles. vote. yes. to keep our government open. and serving the people. also noteworthy what was left out of the spending bill, perhaps a road map for initiatives. congress will work on in the new year. a measure to protect afghan refugees in the u.s. some who aided the u.s. military from being deported. a child tax credit for parents and immigration deal to protect dreamers from deportation and provide funds for border security and a title. 42 extension to address the migrant surge at the

border and a measure allowing marijuana businesses to use legitimate banking systems. >> and that was joe khalil reporting for us this morning. a look at the life and legacy of whitney houston is coming to the big screen. and brad pitt returns to old hollywood in babylon. dean richards takes a look at some of these new films and more in today's movie review. >> among the new offerings for the holiday break is babylon leaders from la la land, oscar-winning director damien chazelle. he goes back to hollywood many decades earlier for extremely raucous. hard are rated. nothing held back. anything goes roller coasteo ride back into the roaring 20's in particular, focusing on the years when silent films, rending and talkies were taking over the movie business. and more importantly, how the superstars of the silent era survive the decadence and the transition to this new way of

filmmaking brad pitt and margot robbie or 2 of those characters heading up this overstuffed over blown over produced study in technique and style. one falling short of any depth of why we should care about any of these characters. babylon is beautiful, but it's nonstop barrage of excess and shock at some point works against the telling of an effective story just because you can put it on the screen doesn't mean you should. it's a dean's list b minus one of the movies being most talked about for oscar consideration this year. he's director darren aronofsky's, the whale in it. former george of the jungle star brendan fraser returns to the big screen playing a severely overweight reclusive english professor who suffers verbal attacks from nearly everyone around him. it's frazier's performance that makes this movie. it's heartbreaking very moving for it's a dean's list b plus. this is going to fight. for the whole family

this weekend. there's the return of one of the most successful animated franchises of the past 10 years. a spinoff of the shrek series and then a hit on its own in boots. the last wish reunites antonio banderas and some higher as pows. and also kitty southpaws upon realizing that the dashing feline is down to the last of his 9 lives. he goes in search of a magical forest where he might be granted a wish of 9 more lives. joining him on the journey or load of funny, diabolical in fairy tale characters to keep the story fun and exciting for all ages. while at the same time offering up a nice moral of friendship and loyalty in boots. the last wish gets extra points. keeping the story sharp and not relying on tired old cliches and which most animated films lead. it's a dean's list b plus. and just
