have that winter weather advisory with us until for that extends all the way across the east bay hills up to the north bay. here's how it looks like and graphic form. you get a general idea form. you get a general idea we're talking about. it's all that has since settled in the overnight storm we had. here's a shot from the south bay san jose state. we don't often times see this all the time and sunny down there. we're talking about bay fog. this go around. this is where most of the action is this morning in the south bay. certainly nestled in the mountains along with that, too. temperature checks were but colder this morning as well. lots of 40's on the board. but santa rose at a chilly 38. give you a quick contrast here. slipping a few degrees behind yesterday's numbers. the day today. we've got showers in the morning hours there, spotty even into the afternoon. but we have some variable clouds coming with us as well, though temperatures will be in the cool side. it's going to be an unsettled week. coming up ahead, we'll give you an idea what you can expect a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> our top story this morning. the search continues for one of the suspects involved in east bay robbery. it happened

at a verizon store on contra costa boulevard in pleasant hill. police say 2 people who told store workers they had a gun stole several cell phones. investigators tracked the suspects to concord where pleasant hill. police say the robbers tried to drive at the officers. this happened in the area of harrison street in concord avenue near a walgreens. just a few blocks from the to 42 northbound ramp on-ramp rather. police say they shot at the car but did not hit either of the robbers. one of them got out of the car and ran off. now the other robber sped away in the getaway car. police say that person was chased down by concord police and arrested in the oakland hills shopping center, which is on the border of bay point pittsburgh police are still looking for the suspect who ran away. now to the east bay woman is sent to the hospital after being hit by a car in the middle of the afternoon. and the driver kept on going. kron four's. amanda hari spoke with the victim.

>> in some ways she's lucky. she doesn't have any major physical injuries, but she says she's having a hard time processing all of it. and he's still in shock. it happened thursday afternoon on the corner of 54th and adeline streets in oakland just blocks from the children's hospital. a warning the video of the incident may be hard for some people to watch. surveillance video catches the moment. syan ali hang was hit by a car while crossing the street. >> we hang was walking home from work. she was an intersection with stop signs in all directions after a car went through, she starts walking in the crosswalk. that's when the white truck hits her. and i got like not back and the car kept going, but it just kind of happened like so fast. >> i didn't >> really process what happened. the hang asked to have her face blurred for safety in the video. you can see her struggle to get back on her feet as a good samaritan jumps out of the car to help.

driver. >> he makes better to really just the more cautious of flight. how he's driving and what he's doing. >> if you recognize the truck, you're asked to call the oakland police department in the newsroom. amanda hari kron, 4 news. well, today, oakland police have additional patrols out on the streets to tackle illegal sideshows like the one you're seeing on your screen there. >> officers issued a reminder that sideshows are illegal and any participating car can be towed and seized with a 30 day. hold. and hackers with the group play ransomware have released confidential data stolen last month from the city of oakland, online network. this all according to the san francisco chronicle, the hackers reportedly following through on their threat to release that personal and private information friday night. the cyber attack affected everything in oakland from the city's non-emergency phone line to help parking tickets

are handled. if you have any data on file with the city of oakland, experts recommend that you freeze your credit and check your bank accounts regularly until the situation is sorted out. well, the investigation continues this morning into the san jose home where explosive materials were found alongside a meth lab. this is video from saturday afternoon. police say that the man that they've arrested may also be connected to to pg and e transformer explosions. 35 year-old peter carousel faces at least 9 felony charges. police evacuated the surrounding houses thursday, but many residents still remain unable to return to their properties. the south bay, the california highway patrol, is investigating a deadly crash between a vehicle and a bicyclist. it happened last night in san jose. the bicyclists riding in the fast lane on one. no one was struck and killed just before 09:00pm. this happened in the northbound lanes near the first street. on-ramp close to the airport. and a reminder

heavy rain that a lot of us experienced overnight and what we're seeing those travelers do is the right thing. they're keeping that proper space between each of those cars and they're going at a pretty moderate speed there on that bridge a day. what should folks be aware of as they step out the door this morning? well, to get under one of those a little cells and you have your lights on again. the windshield wipers have to go when it's going to be very, very spotty. kind of what it looks like at the end of this frame, although maybe not even as busy. but again, if you're on a one of those cells. >> you get a heavy downpour. real briefly, maybe even some hail temporarily as well. and some local winds. and then a couple of minutes later, it's all over. sun comes out again because you'll notice these nice little space is happening here in this as well. >> notice the color is a shun here. this tells us that we're getting some winter-like weather mixed with this. the mixture is about 1500 feet. let's say now above they're talking about 3,000 feet is where this advisory kicks in. several inches of snow will collect. and these higher elevations we're looking at some of blows collecting mount hamilton. mount tam this

again, until 4 o'clock this afternoon or this evening. if you like the high. here's a shot from san jose state raindrops on here, cloudy skies in the background. we don't see that very often that you see we're talking about the bay area and the fog. meanwhile, to the south, it tends to be a little clear temperatures for you a bit colder this morning. lots of 40's. 38 santa rosa. that's the cold spot there. we're going to stay in this pattern. temperature wise for about the next week and then things are going to change dramatically least temperature-wise with a lot more moisture coming our way to of this all pans out. all righs. let's watch what happens today. again, spotty sun hits of rain going on all day today. mountain snows up of course, are going to be collecting that all this week. we get kind of a break overnight for your early morning commute on monday. a mixture again, that spotty type rain plus of this is the atmosphere tends to have less energy in it. does later in the day because it's the daytime heating that tends to drive the atmosphere that's

tends to be when you sometimes get a little. but the risk of hail because that motions the atmosphere, we have this cold air aloft. so again, we'll have that spotty shower event for monday. thickening up a little bit into monday night up in the north bay. a bit. but it's kind of the same type pattern looks like really the next few days worth of the winds. it's a little breezy to start. then it will kind of subside a little bit this afternoon overnight. tomorrow won't be much of an issue tomorrow morning. but again, plan on those wet roads continuing or adding to the puddles a little bit there as we get more doses of rain over the next 24 hours. rain early, scattered showers will call it on balance today. verbal clouds, cool, lower 50's next week. rain and scattered showers. variable clouds, cold midweek. if we get enough drying, we might see some lows brushed by the freezing mark in some of those inland spots. and then next weekend, rain and mild key take away with this inland highs, lower 60's. and this is what we're talking about a little bit here. a little surge of some lower level or some moisture coming in from the lower latitudes reminiscent of what we saw a

few months ago. heavy rains, mild temperatures will have more of that and that stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> well, army recruiting numbers continue to fall short of yearly goals. now the army is trying a new way to increase applicants to get recruits to basic training and passed the army combat fitness test. pedro rivera has more. >> 2022 was the most challenging environment that we faced since the inception of the all volunteer force in 1973 army recruitment struggled last year falling short of their recruitment goal of 60,000 enlisted recruits by about 15,000 soldiers, criminal jr west with the army recruiting command out of fort knox, kentucky says recently the number of eligible americans who are in shape. >> and have the test scores for enlistment has going. 23% of our population is eligible to serve. so i the west, how do you increase the quantity of eligible candidates without

decreasing the quality of our be standards? he says it's possible with the future soldier come force, which targets the academic side of physical side. think of it like pre boot camp recruits from across the country traveled to fort jackson, south carolina and immerse themselves in the army lifestyle for up to 90 days working to get their test scores up and getting cheap. it's always health approach. those results are demonstrating in a high success rate, a high graduation rate since its inception in the summer of 2022, the future soldier preparatory course pilot program. so more than 3200 recruits enroll and by the end of the year. >> 2,965 students graduated and went to basic training. how hard is it to meet the standards needed to enlist? well, i was invited to take the track to joint forces training base, los alamitos to give the army combat fitness test that right. at sunrise i was standing alongside 3 army reserve soldiers ready to test

our fiscal at the to the results of this test will give you and your commanders indication that your state of physical readiness. here's how the test breaks down. the army combat fitness test is made up of 6 events. scoring is based on age and gender. all recruits must obtain a standard score of 60 points in each event to pass first through repetition. maximum deadlift after being challenged by first lieutenant read this. i decided to go for the top score that's come through haha. >> next, there was just a big power threat. how many meters can you throw a 10 pound medicine ball over your shoulder? we moved to hand release push-ups 2 minutes as many as possible was tough, but i was able to do. 55. i felt great going to the spread, right? chairing a time. combination of spring, 20 and wait to test ballots, muscular endurance and

within 1000 feet of the derailment to shelter in place. the county says that the order is out of an abundance of caution. norfolk southern saying no hazardous materials were involved in this derailment around 20 of the trains. a 212 cars derailed. meantime, residents of east palestine, ohio, are still dealing with the aftermath of the toxic train derailment that happened in their community. it happened just about a month ago on saturday, residents lined up in their cars to get basic supplies like blankets, water and food for their kids. many said they are suffering from disturbing physical symptoms and just want life to go back to normal contaminated water from that trailed train derailment wiped out thousands of fish and other wildlife in the area. >> i've been having the downtown. i use a car wash in rash afterwards anywhere expose my face. but it was near the creek where they're flowing everything. a recipe

make a little isolated incident of hail. if you get under one of those thunder cells this afternoon, we'll be seeing that spotty stuff continue, by the way, into the tahoe. the snow is going continue high temperatures expected in the upper 20's. more steady as she goes is what's in the forecast? we do have that winter storm warning. this is in effect until 04:00am still for several feet of snow to be added stormtracker for what's going on here. you've got the deeper moisture down to the south here. the spotty showers that i referenced earlier continuing at this hour. but boy, a lot of clear patches and all of that. so again, you get the atmosphere, some energy, the colder still up there. so what pops up there with energy going on? you get a raindrop gets pushed upward that cycle produces a hailstone and we look for hail stones of an inch or greater in orchard to find a severe thunderstorm warning. that was a big debate about that 10 years ago. anyway, future cast for this is what happens all day today. spotty showers, nice, juicy cell. looks like a out to sea. about 7 o'clock or so. overnight. tomorrow

much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news on stephanie lin. it is sunday and a very wet one at that. we have a lot we're covering for you this morning. but let's get a start look at the weather with dave spahr. >> good morning, dave. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. a very active night we had and we're left with spotty showers that still remain on radar as you can see this morning. but a lot of our sky pictures are also showing the opening up of the skies, too, which is another takeaway as well. so kind of mix for it. we've got going on notice the colors ation there on the radar telling us that we're also getting snow in those higher elevations about hamilton is adding up there. look, observatory yet more coming as we speak. here's a little inspection. hear what's going on down the south bay. again, the higher elevations experiencing snow. basically, it looks like we're getting a mixture level at around 1500 feet or so. it's kind of the estimation line. as you can see, the whole geography with us involved. we have winter weather advisory until 4 this afternoon covering all those east bay hills down to the south bay, not just those

north bay hill communities were talking about before sfo. no delays. this morning. we see some sun peering out in another plane. once again, the camera shot here. and so we have traffic activity with no delays. 43 santa rosa's now for the business of the 40's. everybody is sharing that across most of the breath of the bay. your temperature contrast trailing a couple degrees in the south only because the cloud cover here. we're pretty close to yesterday's numbers. a little bit of a breeze that we have right now. it remain kind of that way, although we're looking for losing some of that for this afternoon tonight. and more importantly, tomorrow, as most of the storminess with this system moves off towards the east. coming up a little bit here will give you the walk through what you'd expect for our through this afternoon and into early next week. stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> our top story this morning. the search continues for one of the suspects involved in an east bay robbery. it happened at a verizon store on contra costa boulevard in pleasant hill. police say 2 people who

told store workers they had a gun stole several cell phones. investigators tracked the suspects to concord where pleasant hill. police say the robbers tried to drive at the officers there. this happened in the area of harrison street in concord avenue near a walgreens. just a few blocks from the to 42 northbound on-ramp police say they shot at the car but did not hit either of the robbers. one of the suspects got out of the car and ran off. the other robber then sped away in the car. police say that person was chased down by concord police and arrested in oak hill shopping center, which is on the border of bay point. and pittsburgh, police are still looking for the suspect who got away. in the east bay. a woman is sent to the hospital after being hit by a car in the middle of the afternoon. the driver just kept on going. kron four's. amanda hari spoke with the victim. in some ways. she's lucky she doesn't have any major physical injuries, but she says she's having a hard time processing all of it.

>> and he's still in shock. it happened thursday afternoon on the corner of 54th and adeline streets in oakland just blocks from the children's hospital. a warning the video of the incident may be hard for some people to watch. surveillance video catches the moment. syan ali hang was hit by a car while crossing the street. >> we hang was walking home from work. she was an intersection with stop signs in all directions after a car went through, she starts walking in the crosswalk. that's when the white truck hits her. and i got like not back and the car kept going, but it just kind of happened like so fast said. >> i didn't >> really process what happened. the hang asked to have her face blurred for safety in the video. you can see her struggle to get back on her feet as a good samaritan jumps out of the car to help. >> these 2 they can help me. >> and so they just like we're

explosive materials were found alongside a meth lab. this is video you're watching now from saturday afternoon. police say the man they've arrested may also be connected to to pg and e transformer explosions. 35 year-old peter kara faces at least 9 felony charges. police evacuated the surrounding homes on thursday and many residents remain unable to go back to their properties. in the south bay, the california highway patrol is investigating a deadly crash between a car and a bicyclist. it happened last night in san jose. the bicyclist was riding in the fast lane on 101, and struck and killed just before 09:00pm. this happened in the northbound lanes near the first street. on-ramp close to the airport. and a reminder that caltrans service is not running this weekend between san francisco and millbrae for track repairs. >> riders can a run to a bus bridge between the stations with time transit connections at millbrae station caltrain

some colder air, but it was active overnight. we didn't drop entirely into the 30's. so that helped keep temperatures on one hand supported futurecast for continues to have those spotty showers with breaks in the skies as you'll notice by 2 o'clock here, the end of the atmosphere as the most energy as we go into the evening and then overnight, it's more muted. but by tomorrow morning, you may have some more added little spotty showers to make note of less chance of hail. those, you know, 10 have as atmosphere activity but not impossible. then into tuesday, this trend continues. we're not picking up a lot. quantitative for this like it's me. that's a plus. we can take a breather from that. but longer range, there's more yet to come. how those winds to one relatively inactive that is going to be kind of breezy to start. you've been seeing that into the afternoon. still a little breezy and it loses a lot of punch tonight into tomorrow. so that will be an additional factor for your morning commute. just a little bit of a breeze and into the afternoon going forward, kind of in between major systems for right now. so the

breakdown as rain early scattered showers on balance with variable clouds, cool, lower 50's for next week. we've got rain with scattered showers continuing variable clouds and by the middle of the week. if we get the right elements and timing of all that is critical to get the maximum cooling at night clear skies, keep the winds down, drying out all that kind of stuff. some drier temporarily allow the temperatures to drop off. then the latter portion of the week. we pick up more with rain, particularly into next weekend and that type of rain is going to be reminiscent of what we saw a few months ago in terms of being denser heavy and milder with those temperatures, 50 san francisco for high today. 52 oakland, 53 san jose. notice the blue skies that will share with this might see some rainbows lower 50's across most of the real estate. and coming up a little bit here we take a look at that 7 day forecast and that longer range of what you'd expect through next weekend, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> another know norfolk southern train derailment to tell you about in ohio. this one happened last night in springfield, which is just

outside dayton. the county is asking residents within 1000 feet of the derailment to shelter in place. it says the order is out of an abundance of caution. norfolk southern saying no hazardous materials were involved around 20 of the train's 212 cars, a derailed. meantime, residents of east palestine, ohio, are still dealing with the aftermath of the toxic train derailment in their community. it happened just about a month ago on saturday, residents lined up in their cars to get basic supplies like blankets, water and food for their children. many said they are suffering from disturbing physical symptoms and want life to go back to normal contaminated water from the train derailment wiped out thousands of fish and other wildlife in the area. >> i've been having the downtown. i use a car wash in rash afterwards. alright, anywhere. expose my face. but it was near the creek where they're blowing everything.

all recipe coughing, stuff like that. >> earlier this week during a town hall meeting, norfolk southern told residents the company was sorry for the train derailment. but the mayor of east palestine said that response is simply not enough for him. residents who live near a southern california airport say they've had enough. they say the fumes there are so bad they can't breathe and the noise is deafening. and now there's a proposal to expand the bit busy airfield home to private jets, mostly belonging to the rich and famous. john fenoglio takes a look at the controversy. >> it is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world. and soon it could become even busier under a proposed expansion. i'm here because of what's happening with the expansion of van nuys airport really have to start to steinberg lives down the street from the van nuys airport. she says in recent years it has become too busy with too many private jets

flying overhead. we can't breeze. oftentimes the fumes were so bad. steinberg was one of a handful of san fernando valley residents who attended a meeting at van nuys city hall to voice their frustration with los angeles world airports, the organization that manages the van nuys airport. they are urging council members to reject expansion. the airport was here before a lot of people were. stuart waldman is the president of the valley industry and commerce asaociation. he says the airport is good business for the region. van nuys airport is a big economic driver for the city. >> brings in over 2 billion dollars to the city. >> has over 10,000 jobs it's big supporter of the community. van nuys is one of the heaviest traffic air fields of its size and the busiest for private jets and greater los angeles. it's not a commercial airport, meaning it doesn't have scheduled flights. meeting jets are allowed to take off and land. 24 7. >> the airport currently cover 730 acres and according to

tahoe. that translates to snow in a big way with upper 20's expected for high temperatures. this cold pattern going remain all week long. it looks like towards the end of the week, though, get a little bit more interesting. we'll talk about that in a bit. this until 04:00am to be adding the feet to what they've collected. and it's going to be more gradual for the week ahead. it looks like at least maybe that's a plus. let that system kind absorb everything that they've had and kind of take care of everything that i could be adding a whole lot more to it. 2, it looks like much of the week, but the couple ways to kind of keep in mind here. alright, spotty showers, as you will see. once we have the daytime heating, we get more action going on. that also tends to sometimes drive the hail because you can get more dynamics in the atmosphere to push those rain drops a little higher in the atmosphere. futurecast for shows that with some clear patches as well going right through tonight and tomorrow morning with the consolation of not as much in the way of heavier winds. so that will be a little bit of a plus. that's nice juicy line there about 07:00am. it's trying starting to happen. watch out the puddles that are already there. plus, the winds will be added to during the

day, but a caution with the wet roads. but quantitatively not a lot. here's what we're getting to the day today. this takes us to about 5 o'clock or so. and then add to that by tomorrow morning or even tomorrow afternoon, we're still not talking about a quarter were barely a few dimes on here. so it's relatively modest. it's going to be more kind of an event. you got a little rain so overhead and, you know, you get maybe a little hail potentially and then it's gone. you're back to sunshine. so that's the early part of the forecast. quantitatively, not a lot of that takes us to midweek. might have a little drying patch briefly here you blink, you'll miss it. but look at the surgeons of the lower lower lower latitude moisture coming in here. deeper moisture. that's the heavy rains that we experienced a few months ago. that type of scenario looks to be playing out. snow levels in the mountains will be rising through next weekend. she got melting. you've got heavy rains on top of that. so that might be posing different types of issues into next weekend. here's what's goes on by the monday. that follows another plume of moisture coming from the lower latitudes. and it looks like it's headed in our direction.

that's way out there. so we'll see as we get a little closer. but this scenario would take us to mid month with all this activity going on. so for today, 50 san francisco, 52 oakland, 53 san jose. there's the rain going on. high temperatures again. hang in. the lower 50's for the most part, a little bit of a warming phase, obviously into the weekend because that warmer air mass but unsettled for much of the week sharing the sun with clouds, some showers and some thunder showers possible with this with the cold air mass. and if we get a drying phase, we might even revisit some freezing or sub freezing temperatures inland. stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> new research suggests and maybe become harder for humans to breathe in the future. a study from uc riverside found rising temperatures can cause plans to emit harmful emissions and even dust increasing their release by as much as 14%. these volatile compounds react with oxygen in the air producing organic aerosols. that can be inhaled

and contribute to childhood asthma, heart disease and lung cancer. well, scientists expect the production of these compounds to increase as temperatures and carbon dioxide levels rise. two-thirds of future pollution is projected from to come from plants. very, very interesting development there. so we all got to do our part to protect our planet and to take good care of it. switching gears now to an issue that we continue to see today. army recruiting numbers continue to fall short of yearly goals and now the army is trying a new way to increase applicants to get recruits to basic training and pass the army combat fitness test paid rivera got really hands on with this one. >> 2022 was the most challenging environment that we since the inception of the all volunteer force in 1973 army recruitment struggled last year falling short of their recruitment goal of 60,000 enlisted recruits by about 15,000 soldiers,

criminal jr west with the army recruiting command out of fort knox, kentucky says recently the number of eligible americans who are in shape. >> and have the test scores for enlistment has going. 23% of our population is eligible to serve. so i the west, how do you increase the quantity of eligible candidates without decreasing the quality of our be standards? he says it's possible with the future. so come force, which targets the academic side physical side, think of it like pre boot camp recruits from across the country traveled to fort jackson, south carolina and immerse themselves in the army lifestyle for up to 90 days working to get their test scores up and getting cheap. it's always health approach. those results are demonstrating in a high success rate, a high graduation rate since its inception in the summer of 2022, the future soldier preparatory course pilot program. so more than 3200 recruits enroll and by the end of the year, 2,965 students

posted for locations that are 3,000 feet and above there you have until 4 this afternoon, the coverage area has expanded from what was yesterday just in the north bay. it's now the east bay hills in down to about hamilton sfo. i want said rep roads, but what tarmac there as you will see and runways but no delays, though. we have 40's with some 50's breaking out here a little bit, half moon bay and oakland and about 51, aka do much better for highs today as of the energy will continue to transfer to the upper layers here. the contrast to what we have going on. it's couple degrees trailing in a few spots here, obviously with this colder air mass in place that's a little cooler than yesterday because of all the moisture in the ground. that's kind of operations cooling us down a bit. the winds are still in the teens and a couple selective spot remain a bit breezy this afternoon. but we don't see any intensity building. in fact, it looks to lessen, particularly overnight for degree to tomorrow morning. so we have variable clouds, but still going to

verbally mentioned, you have that spotty, isolated or scattered about thunder shower or shower, perhaps with a couple claps of thunder and it read that hail and this pattern is going to be with us, really uninterrupted, at least to the middle of the week. we make it a dry patch in there to see some cold temperatures at night and then a new batch as we finish off the weekend next weekend. that's going to be a warmer one. that's going to be a different scenario. we'll talk more about that in a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> our top story this morning. the search continues for one of the suspects involved in an east bay robbery. it happened at a verizon store on contra costa boulevard in pleasant hill. police say 2 people who told store workers they had a gun stole several cell phones. investigators tracked the suspects to concord where pleasant hill. police say the robbers tried to drive at the officers. this happened in the area of harrison street in concord avenue near a walgreens. just a few blocks from the to 42 northbound on-ramp police say they shot at the getaway car, but that did not hit either of the robbers. one of the robbers

even got out of the car and ran off. well, the other robber sped away in the car. police say that person was chased down by concord police and arrested in oak hills shopping center. that's on the border of bay point in pittsburgh. police continue to look for the suspect who ran off. in the east bay. a woman is sent to the hospital after getting hit by a car in the middle of broad in the afternoon in broad daylight. and that driver just kept on going. kron four's. amanda hari spoke with the victim. >> in some ways she's lucky. she doesn't have any major physical injuries, but she says she's having a hard time processing all of it. and he's still in shock. it happened thursday afternoon on the corner of 54th and adeline streets in oakland just blocks from the children's hospital. a warning the video of the incident may be hard for some people to watch. surveillance video catches the moment. syan ali hang was hit by a car while crossing the street. >> we hang was walking home

embarcadero, here's a live look at things outdoors now and it is a sunny morning so you know, looking really pretty out there can tell that it was poor just a few hours ago, except for the fact that, you know, rain fall. you can see that there, you know, were some traces of rain out there. you can see that the pavement is quite damp days. >> quite active. as you mentioned overnight. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. lightning the super bowl of static electricity is what we've got going on. says ice crystals rubbing up against each other and we have a colder air mass and a lot of energy in the atmosphere. now, keeping that in mind with the daytime heating these little cells here might 10 potentially still carry with some hail up to get enough action going on. and all the sun is going to do is just give the atmosphere a little bit more energy. but it is cold when you go right upstairs right above us and also moisture to here's the east bay shoreline. kind of still covered with quite a bit of cloud cover. but there you see the sun poking out very nicely along the east bay shoreline temperature. check for you. a little variety developing here. a lot of 40's

mostly but 50 for oakland, 50. meanwhile for half moon bay, not going to get a whole lot of variety on balance today, which tends to be in the winter months like this. we see this and also with the rain event pretty close at hand like this in the unsettled weather that will continue the next couple of days. so we'll walk you through it. it's just again, the spotty showers actually looks like a nice little break happening early in the afternoon. and then by the evening again with the atmosphere has a max amount of energy tomorrow morning. it has less energy and it but still a couple little cells hanging together. they're a little bit. we have a little bit more daytime heating and again, spotty showers and thunderstorms potentially to look out for and might even carrying a will hail as well. winds of there will be little breezy early in the day and into the afternoon, but they really seem to lose their punch overnight. so these will be very localized cells that we get in terms of to get a wind gust will probably just be associated with that selling as soon as it moves on its way and 15 to 20 minutes. it's all gone in. the sun pops back out again. we repeat the process several hours later. a

look ahead of the game plan. here is rain early. we had that now we're down to scattered showers, variable clouds, cool, lower 50's next week. it's rain and scattered showers. the same kind of mixture looks like we're looking at right now with variable clouds cold for midweek. we might get a little dry patch. let those temperatures plummet just a bit. and then next weekend, the end of the week, it's rain and mild. that means daytime highs with rain will be warmer than today. we're looking at the lower 60's to return. and that's reminiscent of what we saw with the rain a few months ago. so it's going to be deeper moisture because it's coming from the lower latitudes. it will be mixing combining with a colder system out of the gulf of alaska. so away we go lower 50's cover. most of the bay looks like variable clouds, scattered showers pretty much on tap. the big board has more of the same with the lower 50's will course have that extended forecast for you and walk you through what we're expecting into next weekend 70. all right, dave, thank you so much. >> another know folk, norfolk, southern train derailment to tell you about in ohio. this

one happened last night in springfield just outside dayton. the county is asking residents within 1000 feet of the derailment to shelter in place. it says this order is out of an abundance of caution. norfolk southern says no hazardous materials were involved in this derailment around 20 of the train's 212 cars derailed. meantime, residents of east palestine, ohio, are still dealing with the aftermath of their there. toxic train derailment that happened in their community. it happened just about a month ago on saturday. residents lined up in their cars yesterday, too. get basic supplies like blankets, water and food for their kids. many said they are suffering from disturbing physical symptoms and just want life to go back to normal contaminated water from the train derailment wiped out thousands of fish and other wildlife in the area. >> i've been having the downtown. i use a car wash in rash afterwards anywhere expose my face. but it was near the creek where they're blowing everything. recipe

residents who live near a southern california airport say they've had enough. they say the fumes there are so bad they can't breathe and the noise is deafening. but now there's a proposal to expand the busy air field home to private jets, mostly belonging to the rich and famous. john fenoglio takes a look at the controversy. >> it is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world. and soon it could become even busier under a proposed expansion. i'm here because what's happening with the expansion of van nuys airport really has to start to steinberg lives down the street from the van nuys airport. she says in recent years it has become too busy with too many private jets flying overhead. >> we can't breeze. oftentimes the fumes were so bad. steinberg was one of a handful of san fernando valley residents who attended a meeting at van nuys city hall to voice their frustration with los angeles world airports, the organization that manages the van nuys airport. they are urging council members to reject

inconsistent. i forecast a good morning and good morning, everybody. another get a little sell over you. and then 20 minutes later, it's back to what you just see there. >> for another few hours, repeat, do the same again. we saw little bit of that last week as well. so we've got that coming up into next week. the good news is, i guess, in some ways to say, as we recover a bit, we're not going to get a lot quantitatively for a little while. so everybody can kind of catch shop in particular, folks up in tahoe got the upper 20's to keep that snow preserved. but there's more still coming from the sky. not as much as we've been through. so that's going to continue early next week. by the way, we still have that storm in place here you see a winter storm warning until 04:00am on monday. air covering all this geography advisory. meanwhile, off towards the east as you'll here, the spotty showers that appear on radar and also the lot of clear patches that are worked to know we do have that cold air. that's still right upstairs. so get a lot of action with the cell that can still generate some thunder showers or potentially some very localized hail. here it is on futurecast for we do

>> 2022 was the most challenging environment that we since the inception of the all volunteer force in 1973 army recruitment struggled last year falling short of their recruitment goal of 60,000 enlisted recruits by about 15,000 soldiers, criminal jr west with the army recruiting command out of fort knox, kentucky says recently the number of eligible americans who are in shape. >> and have the test scores for enlistment has going. 23% of our population is eligible to serve. so i the west, how do you increase the quantity of eligible candidates without decreasing the quality of our be standards? he says it's possible with the future. so come force, which targets the academic side physical side, think of it like pre boot camp recruits from across the country. travel to fort jackson, south carolina and immerse themselves in the army lifestyle for up to 90 days working to get their test scores up and getting cheap. it's always health approach.
