have that 7 day forecast for you in a with those delicious 70's, stephanie, that thing. >> thank you so much, dave. well, history is being made in fremont's. the bay area's 4th largest city just named its first female fire chief. so rated diaz takes on the job later this month. and she joins us live now to talk about her plans for the role moving forward. thank you so much. the radar for being here with us this morning. thank you, stephanie, for having me. all right. so to start things off, big congratulations to you know, women only make up about 6% of fire chiefs in the entire country. how does it feel to be recogniand to make history in this way? >> i'm really excited about, you know, being given the opportunity to lead the organization of bin with fremont now for 2 years and i really focus on building relationships, working with organizations, the labor management. we he great relationship upper really making sure that my leadership style is transparent. consistent and inclusive. so i'm excited to be given this
9:18 am
opportunity. and i feel like it's something that we've earned together i've i have a lot of very talented members that work for the fire department it's a community committee led organization. so we have members from the firefighter rank up to the fire chiefs office were engaged in really trying identify innovative ways to provide service to the community. so and i'd love to hear about some of your plans for that innovation. but first, i love for people to just learn a bit more about you, like tell us a bit about yourself, how you got involved in the in the fire service. well, it's interesting. i am. i'm originally from new york born and and i lived in harlem. >> and i ended up going to college up in albany. i studied psychology for a bachelor's degree and have a master's degree in counseling and. >> at around my 30's, i decided to that. i wanted to live in the bay area. so i drove cross-country and eventually ended up here after a couple of stops in denver and la and i met someone the
9:19 am
first aids life cycle from san francisco to la who was also pursuing a career in the fire service through her. i met members of the oakland black firefighters association who kind of recruited me into the fire service and i very aggressively started to do what i needed to do in terms of getting cpr. emt certifications. it was the best decision that i could have made. i was 36 years old. when i started in the academy and iwate approximately 120 pounds. so i say that to say that anyone who has that desire to accomplish any goal in life, really, if you if you put your mind to it in and you're resilient and dedicated, you can accomplish that goal. and what was it about the fire service that appealed to you so much? you know, given your unique background, you were social workers. well. >> what was it about working with firefighters that really kind of sparked something inside of you that so that's a
9:20 am
great question. so, you as a social worker, most of what you do is work with i also played softball in and i really love the idea of being on a team and the camaraderie behind it. >> so when i went to my frnd's gduation, one of the thgs that th do is that put an exercise in place that allows you to all of the things that are being taught in the academy. so you have members from the organization throwing latter's rescuing people, all of the operations that you learn when i saw that i really saw that that wsomething that i can do as prior to that, i never thought because i've never seen women in the fine service. never thought that that was an option for me. but that exposure really, touched, moved and inspired me to focus in a career in the fire service in. so you, sir, for quite some time with oakland fire. first before you came to you walk us through some of the challenges that you might
9:21 am
have faced as you are climbing the ladder, if you will. >> so i think that the biggest challenge was getting to do a 6 month academy and i was fortunate enough to have my father. >> be there for me to support me there. during that process. he came from new york and stay with me during that time i had a group, a great group of classmates together, you know, we we were able to overcome some of those challenges physically, right. so physically and mentally, you're you're taught to be able to respond to any type of emergency. it takes a toll on you. so also being 36 years old. you know, although i was an when you're carrying that amount of equipment is starts to affect your body. so we have members in the academy get injured. but we continued right to to pursue that career. i would say that was probably my biggest challenge. the other challenge for me was that it was really important for me to have credibility. and so i wanted to work every position. and what that meant
9:22 am
was that i had to sacrifice time with by committing myself to studying my craft aside, promoted from firefighter to paramedic engineer lieutenant captain battalion chief. and then i left oakland as an assistant during the pandemic, i was promoted to assistant chief and that's shortly after about 10 months in started to pursue a deputy chief position in fremont. well, just so impressive like that, perseverance that you're describing there. >> and on i want to get into quick questions. if you're able to answer in just a very limited amount of time here. but just what advice do you have for people who are interested in entering the fire service, whether it's women, people of color who are looking at, they're interested. but there might be a little intimidated. so i would say that i had little to no experience knowing what the fire service was about. my background obviously was being a social worker. i think that anything that we do in life, it's up couple translating
9:23 am
over to what can be done in the fire service. because what we do is take care of the community. that's what we do. we serve. i would say that, you know, for me, i got together with a group of very motivated people who were also interested in pursuing a career in the fire service. and we did everything together. we prepare for the written exam. we went and visited stations. we've got to meet people. we practice for the oral interviews because there's significant number of steps to getting to the position of being offered a position. but if you're committed to that, you can get it done. i really am a true believer that, you know, if you change the way of thinking you can be very successful. all to diaz. this soon to be the first female fire chief of fremont fire. thank you so much for your time this morning. thank you. and for your service to the community. really appreciate it. thank you, man. all right. we'll be right back.

where we're watching as we get this process of this front to pass on the backside of everything will be some cold air filtering into this. so expect a little drop in temperatures going forward. but then gradually warming up through the remainder of the week. here is the progress thus far. it's mostly a 40 to 50 story on the board. 49 livermore. 49 also santa rosa. the exceptions. but everybody else is at least well. 46 also the stick out there. meanwhile, here's the breakdown for you today. we should see quite a bit of sunshine early on during the afternoon with our front will be some scattered clouds and that technically we're going make that mention of an isolated shower, but don't wait up for it. and then we look at the 7 day forecast. we see little warming trend to give you a nice flavor of spring. well, but more on that. plus, your 4 zone coming up in just a bit. stephanie day. thank you. >> a big story we're following major league baseball and the oakland police department are investigating an alleged battery at the coliseum thursday night. it happened after an opening day loss to the oakland a's los angeles angels. 3rd baseman anthony rendon could be seen multiple

are taking a live look now at sfo or we could see, you know, just some clouds kind of drifting the airport there. but overall, it just seems like such a pretty day, a nice day for maybe a short trip somewhere day. >> that is good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. only addendum to this is not as warm as yesterday. plus, we've got some winds to look out for 2 setting up to tahoe areas. a little shot here castle peak and notice the roads. we don't see any new fresh white snow hitting at all, though forecast hasn't. we can see some snow is already happening there. there's snow dress on either side. so lots of material there to deal with the next couple days. if you are. by some chance going up there in coming back tonight. you'll still do with a little bit the way of some weather. and there's a winter weather advisory that has been posted. but this is going to be gone by 08:00am tomorrow. so just a little in the way some weather to deal with, not nothing like we do with other previous weekends with bigger stormy action, a little drop in temperatures will have tomorrow. notice this. it's following suit with the bay
9:46 am
area program of a minor warm-up graduate will be to the end of the weakened quite a bit of sunshine. it looks like for the week ahead, too. but we'll look at the melting pattern going on. those still a lot of 50's on the big board here. 49 livermore exception 40 some of 49 for santa rosa. but everybody else, even half moon bay coming in about 52. so scattered clouds. just to make that note. we see a couple spots is try to appear upon here on projections of radar. but there is drier above and below it. so don't expect too much from that. if you actually get a little sprinkle on top of you, you kind of won the lottery a little bit in terms of getting something winds are more pronounced with this. this is all the ways monday morning. so it's getting pretty breezy by this afternoon till a little windy in spots at night. no wind advisory has been posted with this. here's how we go there. you see the coverage area out of the northwest and we're through traffic over the week ahead. so if the early part of the week we get this front, that's why get some colder weather on balance. it looks like everything stays pretty much to the north. as we look for a little bit of a warming phase
9:47 am
to finish off the week. i want to zip through 4 zone forecast. real quick, slight reduction of our temperatures that we're looking at here. middle 50's along the coast to lower 50's. meanwhile, heading down south here, 58 foster city, the south bay only lower 60's, not the mid 60's like we enjoyed yesterday. 59 for livermore about 60 going on for walnut creek. well, i hope coming at about 57 and santa rosa will do about 60's. so tomorrow, probably a little cooler than in the recovery. here it is mixed bag of sun and clouds watch out for the winds for tomorrow. but look at that sweet, warm up there approaching mid 70's next weekend, stephanie and ice to see the heat so much. dave. >> the 3rd and final round of live orlando tees off this morning. and since there are no cuts at l i r at live events, all the players leave with a paycheck and it turns out the fana are also getting something special. andrew martin joins us live now to talk souvenirs. andrew. >> stephanie, the fans are here. they are on the course.
9:48 am
we're 30 minutes away. less than that, actually until the shotgun start in the 3rd and final event of live orlando. as you can see behind me again, tons of colors out here. lots of fans, beautiful skies. brooks keopka right now and team smash are leading both individually and in the team standings. now the team standings are a huge part of live as people are kind of figuring out what liv golf is, right. you got music that you can probably hear in the background playing that place throughout the course of the round. they played 54 holes instead of 72. but the team concept you see fans wearing team gear, fans are literally buying tons of live merchandise, son. it's all about the range. goats is what we've been told. that's bubba watson's team. it's the pink and the white. now we've been told that there are probably between 6 7,000 fans on the course each day here for a live event. and these fans, they're really dressed head to toe in these team colors.
9:49 am
>> a lot of extra projects for the teams. the teams have. we got involved and help pushing a brandon on the sea. that range as well. i'm so we've now the battle to see the photos. we now have the goodies. team colors are doing all strong and all these goodies you to the temperature the time outs. >> again, we're less than 30 minutes away from final round coverage. you can watch it right here on kron 4 brooks keopka is the leader. but as i said, it might be that bubba watson is the most popular released his range coach team range goats team. it's hard to say that 5 times fast might be the most popular out here. stephanie, back to you. all right, andrew, nice job covering the games out there. looks like it's going to be great weather for the rest of the day as well. thank you so much. >> and you can watch it live golf this morning right here on kron. 4 coverage starts today at 11:00am. artificial intelligence continues to change the way we think about traditional jobs in day-to-day tasks starting this month, you can now get your nails painted by a robot in san francisco.

think is very important is ai safety. they eyes only really responsible for what is here now. >> after that, we go to more traditional algorithms for actually deciding how we're going to paint it. and that way, if the ai makes a mistake, you might paint that skin. but that's the worst that could happen. if you're a busy person on the go and looking for a quick splash of color. >> this could be the way to get the job done. >> all right. well, the company plans to expand its service to airports and workspaces in san francisco in the coming months and i'm told that they're not stopping at just nails clockwork. hopes to develop robots that can even be hairstylists one day. so we'll see what i does appear to in our future for sure. >> we'll be right back.
