april 8 and we've got a lot of news for you today. start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr the morning day. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and were battling considerable amount of clouds going on here today, first like there's a shot of the golden gate bridge in kind of a. >> a layer of stratus going on here, right on top of us will see some late day clearing out of this. don't expect a whole lot that we're going make up for easter sunday. looks like pretty nice there with a nice bump in temperatures. we're at a 2, but here's the shot again, golden gate bridge. kind of like a just a layer of that cloud cover which will thicken in thin throughout the day. a little bit. we'll pricey some late day clearing. but still, this is got to play its way out later on this morning into the early afternoon. 47 at this hour for any off. 49, meanwhile, up to santa rosa. you don't see the 30's going on. here is pretty much upper 40's near about 50's. we get across much of the mid bay in 52 for san jose. it quick contrast from couple about just 24 hours ago trailing a few will make up for the little bit by the afternoon. a little bit of a

breeze working here, but not too much of one really for the 48 hour time period there. you can see in the early afternoon breaking up the clouds a little bit for some better sunshine. but a nice bump on your easter sunday. looks like in a pretty pleasant week. coming up ahead, we'll have more details on that in a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> the cycling community is mourning the death of easton usa, cycling champion and national record holder. his family says boys was hit by a car this week in san francisco's presidio neighborhood. kron four's gayle ong has more on that. >> ago, spike and flowers have been placed at the site of the crash were even boys was killed on tuesday. a sign above the bike memorial reads a drunk driver killed our friend. according to u.s. park police boys was riding his bike when he was hit by a car around 04:00pm tuesday on washington and argo. boulevard in the presidio, one witness posted on nextdoor that she saw a speeding car heading orth careened into the opposite lane and hit a cyclist boys and the driver were taken to the hospital.

the driver suffered minor injuries. us park. police did not say if drugs or alcohol were involved, kind of shocked to see who is right here. johnny gravel paused at the memorial. he takes this route daily in the presidio. people just got to be careful >> drivers, especially he's got to have extra caution. the cycling community is remembering boys a world champion in his sport. a statement to kron 4 from usa. cycling reads in part, quote. >> beyond eaton's athletic achievements. he was an upstanding member of the american track. cycling community. his loss will be felt at local regional national and world events for years as he brought a mixture of competition and friendliness to every race. our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. voices. family also sent us a statement writing in part those who had the joy of knowing or had even met him in passing know that he was widely generous of spirit and heart charismatic quietly. funny, thoughtful, smart, and gracious. he was also an apologetic and passionate about the things he loved

most. cycling as bicycle coalition, an advocacy and education group has been calling on the city to do more to protect cyclists. executive director jonelle long says her group wants to honor boys the spirit by following through with their mission. one of the ways that we will continue to press on the city is too >> make sure that they continuing thwir commitment to the jean 0 and ending intervals of any traffic fatalities or serious injuries on our streets and that we want to make sure that we can create and put in infrastructure that makes that possible. the city's vision 0 initiative seeks to eliminate all traffic related deaths in the city. >> but where the crash happened is on federal land. we reached out to presidio trust that manages the streets in the park. the agency calling the accident heartbreaking, adding, quote, the presidio trust has worked diligently to improve safety and expand routes for cyclists and pedestrians. in san francisco, gayle ong kron. 4 news.

>> and we now have the 9-1-1, audio and surveillance video capturing the final moments of tech executive bob dudley. he was stabbed to death outside of a luxury apartment building near the bay bridge and a warning that some viewers may find this next video. hard to watch. >> now screaming, help at me. >> the cash app founder had called 9-1-1 just a moment earlier. and in this exclusive video first obtained by daily mail dot com lee is seeing still clutching his cell phone when he collapses. this is in front of the port side apartment building at 400 main street. the video was captured at 02:36am. he's eventually able to get up the collapses again. just seconds later. >> it is breathing out. he is out tonight on the street. >> but area near the bay bridge is covered by many cameras. but police are not saying yet whether any of those cameras caught the actual attack. we spoke with san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins earlier this week, as she

said, her office stands ready to prosecute if and when there's an arrest. police say it's too early to know whether this attack was targeted or random. well, the san jose police officers association has fired says it has fired its executive director joanne segovia federal prosecutors charged her last month with attempting to traffic fentanyl as part of a larger scheme to smuggle synthetic opioids into the u.s. kron four's. dan kerman takes a look at what's ahead. >> after 20 years on the job, joanne segovia is out as executive director of the san jose police officers association. >> we have terminated miss ago. the u.s. employment with police officers association. >> the firing follows phase one of the p always internal investigation which was launched after federal prosecutors charged to go via with attempting to unlawfully import fentanyl. the poe says they knew nothing about what's ago via was doing. phase 2 of the peel oys internal inquiry

advection fog in the san francisco bay area never heard of such a thing anyway. that does clear out into the afternoon sunshine, free easter sunday and then into monday, looks like it's more of the same fog starting to extend as you can see off towards the delta little bit. still yielding to a mostly sunny monday. so considerable clouds for your saturday, mild, some upper 60's going on well inland now. but by tomorrow, we're going to be hopping well into the upper 60's. that should be upper 50's. excuse me, mostly sunny and nice for your easter sunday. next week. warm start, but we do cool off as we approach the midweek. so a few clouds on tuesday and thursday, do some traffic coming our way. this looks to be dry now, but it will probably continue to cool us in bring some scattered clouds again, timing seems to be tuesday and thursday going till tuesday, one as we drop back down to those colder numbers. so we're going to pop sunday and monday but returned. 59 san francisco, 62 oakland, 67. meanwhile for san jose and there you see the numbers on the big board coming up in a bit. of course, we'll take a look at the

longer range forecast. see some of those fronts dropping south and your 7 day forecast, 70. >> all right, dave, thank you for that for your money this morning. thanks to the recent wet weather, hydroelectric plants will be able to generate more power and that could help with your water bill kron four's terisa stasio has more on that. >> when the sierra snowpack starts to mount, it will be a windfall for hydroelectric plants in california. and that may bring some very good news for your bill. >> so what's a benefits there? because powers clean its renewable and it's also very cost effective and any savings we get this year will be passed on to customers. although the numbers have been crunched yet to indicate how much your power bill could be affected. >> marino says of the ability to generate more clean energy and pg e's 67 powerhouses is a win for everyone. >> additional snow pack means we're not always going to plenty of hydro-power to operate during the summer peak periods. it also means the

water is likely the last much longer in the summer and even into the fall. >> we use hydro-power sales to you know, rates, right? so it helps us keep our rates more stable. andrea polk is with the east bay municipal utility district. the district has a large hydro power plant. a party reservoir and 2001 50,000 megawatts per hour were generated this year. the plant is slated to crank out 205,000 megawatts per hour. that is a 310% increase. already the abundance of water. this winter has knocked off a drought surcharge on rate pairs bills and the excessive water use penalty is projected to be suspended next month financially. east bay mud is a not-for-profit organization. we don't make money. any money that we get from rate payers goes directly right back into the system. so our job is to balance all of it. still going

to develop our numbers for high we do another snow survey in may. >> and at that time will crunch the numbers and provide our projected higher output for the year. >> polk and marino. and although many factors go into calculating a bill, the bonus of a massive winter has far-reaching benefits, including helping the bottom line for ratepayers across the board. theresa kron, 4 news. >> well, meantime, in alameda, east bay mud is installing a new massive water pipeline. engineers say will withstand the next big earthquake. the new pipe is 32 inches in diameter and will be installed through a bore hole drilled under the oakland inner harbor. this phase of the project is expected to be wrapped up by this weekend, but by the end of the year will be connected to existing water networks across the estuary. the new pipeline replaces one. that's 80 years old. >> there is no storage. know what the story is on the

island. without any doubt. all alameda's water comes over from reservoirs that in oakland and berkeley. and so this is significant the party exists in pipelines which are vulnerable, too to during way, if they want to fill out of me that without the water. >> the existing pipe will remain underground. east bay mud hopes to turn it into a line for recycled water. and in the north, a cruise in the nation are now testing the quality of water said through the bypass line. the original water line was damaged when a hillside near i 6.80, collapse last week. you can see the damage there prompting the city to declare an at a local emergency on friday the city announced staff members are assessing the structural integrity of the newly built pipes. all that could take about a week. meantime, the city is tapping into a secondary source of water from nearby lake herman. but that water could look and taste earthy. all residents, businesses, schools and hotels are asked to reduce their water usage by 40%. in the

meantime, and a warning for giants fans. if you're planning to go to this weekend's games at oracle park, caltrain will suspend service between the belmont and menlo park stations this saturday and sunday crews are working on a lab and an electorate excuse me, electrification project. it will be a limited bus bridge. but caltrain is advising giants fans to find other transit options. the closures will not affect weekday service. and water district is asking people in novato to keep their sprinklers and irrigation systems turned off the company shut off a section of a pipeline due to a landslide near all and poly state park to make damage assessments. these are pictures you're looking at now of the landslide on redwood boulevard. this happened last month. and this is the same landslide that exposed pg any gas lines. the water district says it hopes to finish its testing by next friday. well, still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, another brutal attack unfold on san francisco streets. >> the victim, a former city >> the victim, a former city fire commissioner, how famil

access to a commonly used abortion pill is in limbo this morning. >> on friday, a federal judge in texas suspended the fda's approval of mifepristone. but shortly after a federal judge in washington state ruled in a separate case that the drug is safe and effective. well, the federal government now has 7 days to appeal. the texas ruling if a priest own as one of the 2 drugs commonly used

for medication abortions. it was first cleared for use in the u.s. in 2000. california's attorney general rob bonta also issued a statement that reads in part, quote, for more than 20 years, mifepristone has been a lifeline for people in need of critical and sometimes lifesaving care access to this medication has empowered pregnant women to make the choices they want for their body, their health and their future. today we see another radical court attempt to strip away that power from millions of americans. time it turns out california is not done with walgreens. after all, governor gavin newsom tried to cut ties with walgreens last month after the company announced it would not dispense the abortion pill mifepristone in states where it is illegal to do so. but it turns out under federal law, california is legally bound to do business with the pharmacy chain because of the state's medicaid program. in fact, last year, medicaid paid walgreens more than one and a half billion dollars and the

more time here, less time there. >> good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news that start off this half hour with a look at our forecast. dave spahr in the weather center with the very latest. david here, we can expect some sunshine. >> stephanie. good morning, everybody of for today. it's going to be little harder to get to maybe this afternoon. we'll see some rays of sun try to work in here a little bit. but the gloves are off, if you will sure take the gloves off. then we warm up nicely. looks like into the afternoon, particularly here's the shot that we have the east bay shoreline. you can see kind of overcast. looks like a little bit. that will break up a little bit as we approach noon. but for today, it seems like quite a bit of cloud cover. you can expect it will help keep temperatures down there is that that the cloud cover upstream fairly dry. all but afterwards, that's will start to clear up in earnest. we're looking at 48 at this hour. napa. 49 for santa rosa.

we have some 50's poking out here and there. 52 going on for san jose at the ballpark today as the giants to battle against the royals. 105, game time with temps mid 50's. now tomorrow that will be improved. more sunshine. little bit warmer temperatures. maybe not so windy going on that southwest. 10 to 15 miles per hour winds so button up like it's almost a football game kind of weather. so mostly cloudy through the midday or so early afternoon starts to break up. some of that cloud cover and what some sun show. again, we're looking for a better opportunity tomorrow for sun on early next week. i'll have that longer range forecast for you in a bit. stephanie. >> all right. thank you. a former san francisco fire commissioner is recovering in the hospital this morning after he was brutally attacked in the marina district wednesday night as kron four's rob nesbitt learned police have arrested a suspect. >> the friends of the former san francisco fire commissioner. tell me his attack is a reflection of violence in the city. they also live in the marina and say they were surprised to hear about an attack, but they

were surprised that someone was able to take down their friend, according to police, don carman yanni was attacked here around 07:20pm, wednesday on magnolia street in san francisco, larry buck lives in this neighborhood and his friends with carmen yanni. >> pictured here, second from the right with friends at a giants game. buck says carmen yianni's parents live on magnolia street and that the 53 year-old was there because of a homeless man acting reckless outside the front door. his mom was terrified to leave her house >> dawn came >> to assist and he was attacked and beaten within an inch of his life. >> police say his attacker used a metal pipe and that officers on scene were able to track down the person responsible. 24 year-old garrett doggie. he was arrested and booked at the san francisco county jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury. carmen johnny's family told kron 4 that he's recovering after a surgery to remove a piece of his skull. 50 stitches on his face and a broken jaw. former member of

the san francisco police commission, joe alioto veran az visited his friend in the hospital friday morning. if this kind of thing can happen to dawn, then we're all vulnerable like nobody is safe. this is a big, strong man who i think we'd be talking about a homicide today. if he wasn't begin strong the way he is. do barren az work with the city's police department for 3 years and was an investigator with the da's office for 5 years. he lives 3 blocks from where the attack happened and as watch crime increase in the marina over time say police don't have the tools to prevent crime and the unhoused don't get the help. they need their patterns here that these police officers should be following up on. but they're not because they don't have those resources. and and what happens is that this insanity rises to the level of criminal acts. charges have already been filed in this case. but ali, ovarian az says the da should also charged. audi with attempted homicide. >> reporting the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> and a former nfl player who spent time on both the niners

and the raiders will spend the next 12 months in jail. pass rusher aldon smith rear ended a work truck at around one 30 in the afternoon on i-280, in redwood city. it happened in december 2021, but the san mateo district attorney now says smith asked the driver of the truck if he was ok before offer $1000 for a ride home instead of calling police. the driver declined in called officers. instead, the da's office says smith's blood alcohol level was more than 3 times the legal limit. the da also says smith had marijuana in his pockets at the time and empty bottles of rum and vodka in his pickup truck. this was not the first time smith had a run-in with the law. police arrested him several other times for driving under the influence and for domestic violence. back in 2018. and that's another big story we're following out of san francisco state this morning. cell phone video shows some heated moments. >> after a speech by former college swimmer riley gaines who has been speaking at colleges nationwide about

keeping trans women out of women's sports kron four's dan storm reports. >> former college swimmer riley gaines being chased away and shouted at by trans activists after an event at san francisco state university. gaines was on campus to deliver a speech about keeping trans women out of women's sports. gaines claims she was mobbed and physically assaulted. in a statement sent to kron 4 news. gaines says the pendulum has swung too far. we shouldn't be put in danger because we want our sports to be safe and fair. videos shared by student run paper golden gate express do not appear to show games being hit. the university's police department says an investigation is underway, but there were no arrests related to the event. gains has been a vocal critic of trans women being included in women's sports following a 5th place tie with transgender swimmer

people who rely on 7 fishing for a living here in san francisco on friday, some of california's elected officials promised to do what they can to help affected immediately. all recreational and commercial salmon fishing along the california oregon coast has been canceled. the pacific fishery management council which oversees west coast fisheries says the population of chinook salmon has plummeted to the lowest levels in more than a decade. >> the news is a big blow to the people who rely on salmon fishing for a living. normally the first week of april appear 45 is really bustling. know. recreational season should be open. we should be getting the first reports from the charter boats and instead we have a complete closure. there's a lot of fear and panic all up and down the coast. >> with families trying to figure out how they're going to pay the bills this year because there's no salmon. we've got tens of thousands of people in california that rely on salmon to make a living. >> at a press conference in san francisco on friday, the region's congressional delegation said they would be pushing to have a federal fishing disaster declared in order to provide relief money

friend. according to u.s. park police boys was riding his bike when he was hit by a car around 04:00pm tuesday on washington and argo. boulevard in the presidio, one witness posted on nextdoor that she saw a speeding car heading north careened into the opposite lane and hit a cyclist boys and the driver were taken to the hospital. the driver suffered minor injuries. us park. police did not say if drugs or alcohol were involved, kind of shocked to see who is right here. johnny gravel paused at the memorial. he takes this route daily in the presidio. people just got to be careful >> drivers, especially he's got to have extra caution. the cycling community is remembering boys a world champion in his sport. a statement to kron 4 from usa. cycling reads in part, quote. >> beyd ton's athletic achievements. he was an upstanding member of the american track. cycling community. his loss will be felt at local regional national and world events for years as he brought a mixture of competition and friendliness to every race.

we have an alameda east bay mud is installing a new, massive water pipeline engineers say will withstand the next big earthquake. >> this new pipe is 32 inches in diameter. it will be installed to a bore hole drilled under the oakland inner harbor. this phase of the project is expected to be wrapped up this weekend by the end of the year. it will be connected to existing water networks across the estuary. the new pipeline replaces one. that's 80 years old. >> there is no storage. know what the story is on the island of all alameda's water comes over from reservoirs about in oakland and berkeley. and so this is significant the party exists in pipelines which vulnerable, too to during way, if they want to fill out of me that without the water. >> the existing pipe will remain underground. east bay mud hopes to turn into a line for recycled water. in the north bay. crews in the nation

access to a commonly used abortion pill is in limbo this morning. >> on friday, a federal judge in texas suspended the fda's approval of mifepristone but shortly after a federal judge in washington state ruled in a separate case that the drug is safe and effective, the federal government now has 7 days to appeal. the texas ruling. it's a pretty stone is one of the 2 drugs commonly used for medication abortions. it was first cleared for use in the u.s. in 2000. california's attorney general rob bonta also issued a statement that reads in part, quote, for more than 20 years, mid-upper stone has been a lifeline for people in need of

helps us keep our rates more stable. andrea polk is with the east bay municipal utility district. the district has a large hydro power plant. a party reservoir and 2001 50,000 megawatts per hour were generated this year. the plant is slated to crank out 205,000 megawatts per hour. that is a 310% increase. already the abundance of water. this winter has knocked off the drought surcharge on rate pairs bills and the excessive water use penalty is projected to be suspended next month financially. east bay mud is a not-for-profit organization. we don't make money. any money that we get from rate payers goes directly right back into the system. so our job is to balance all of it. still going to develop our numbers for our high we do another snow survey in may. >> and at that time will crunch the numbers and provide our projected higher output for the year.

assessment. these are pictures you're looking at now of the landslide on redwood boulevard. it happened last month and this is the same landslide that exposed pg and gas lines. the water district says it hopes to finish its testing by next friday. and just a reminder for giants fans who are planning to go to this weekend's games at oracle park that caltrain will suspend service between the belmont in menlo park stations this saturday and sunday crews are working on electrification project. there will be a limited bus bridge, but caltrain is advising giants fans to find some other transit options. the closures will not affect weekday service. is are warning dog owners to keep an extra eye on their pets this easter weekend, new data released by the kennel club says that dogs eat and become poisoned by chocolate treats at an increased rate of 123%. this time of year. according to the vca animal hospitals, chocolate is toxic for dogs

in national news. access to a commonly used abortion pill is in limbo this morning. on friday, a federal judge in texas suspended the fda's approval of mifepristone. but shortly after a federal judge in washington state ruled in a separate case that the drug is safe and effective, the federal government has 7 days to appeal. the texas ruling. it's a pristine one of 2 drugs commonly used for medication abortions. it was first cleared for use in the u.s. in 2000. california's attorney general rob bonta also issued a statement in response to the ruling. it reads in part, quote, for more than 20 years, mifepristone has been a lifeline for people in need of critical. sometimes lifesaving care access to this medication has empower pregnant people to make the choices they want for their body, their health and their future. today we see another radical court attempt to strip away that power from millions of americans. it

turns out california is not done with walgreens. after all, governor gavin newsom tried to cut ties with walgreens last month after the company announced it would not dispense the abortion pill mifepristone in states where it is illegal to do so. but it turns out under federal law, california is legally bound to do business with the pharmacy chain because of the state's medicaid program. last year, medicaid paid walgreens more than one and a half billion dollars and the state's health department said california will continue to comply with that law. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, former raider and forty-niners player aldon smith sentenced to time behind bars. >> well, on his conviction after the break. there is get venture hunt in belmont. it starts at 10 this morning at park. it will be 13,000 hidden eggs and kids are asked to bring their own basket. still have lots lots of time spent trying to find those aches. it

>> to assist and he was attacked and beaten within an inch of his life. >> police say his attacker used a metal pipe and that officers on scene were able to track down the person responsible. 24 year-old garrett doggie. he was arrested and booked at the san francisco county jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury. carmen johnny's family told kron 4 that he's recovering after a surgery to remove a piece of his skull. 50 stitches on his face and a broken jaw. former member of the san francisco police commission, joe alioto veran az visited his friend in the hospital friday morning. if this kind of thing can happen to dawn, then we're all vulnerable like nobody is safe. this is a big, strong man who i think we'd be talking about a homicide today. if he wasn't begin strong the way he is. ali ovarian az worked with the city's police department for 3 years and was an investigator with the da's office for 5 years. he lives 3 blocks from where the attack happened and as watch crime increase in the marina over time say police

don't have the tools to prevent crime and the unhoused don't get the help. they need their patterns here that these police officers should be following up on. but they're not because they don't have those resources. and and what happens is that this insanity rises to the level of a criminal acts. charges have already been filed in this case. >> but ali, ovarian az says the da should also charged audi with attempted homicide. reporting the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> and a former nfl player who spent time on both the niners and the raiders will teams will spend the next 12 months in jail. a pass rusher aldon smith rear ended a work truck at around one 30 in the afternoon on i-280, in redwood city. it happened back in december of 2021, the san mateo district attorney says smith asked the driver of the truck the fee was ok before offering him $1000 for a ride home instead of calling police. well, the driver declined and chose to call officers instead, the da's office says smith's blood alcohol level was more than 3 times the legal limit. the da

also says smith had marijuana in his pockets at the time and empty bottles of rum and vodka in his pickup truck. that was not the first time smith had a run-in with the law. police arrested him several other times for driving under the influence and for domestic violence. back in 2018. and now another big story we're following out of san francisco this time at the university san francisco state this morning. well, cell phone video shows some heated moments after a speech by former college swimmer riley gaines who has been speaking at colleges nationwide about keeping trans women out of women's sports kron four's dan thorn has more. >> former college swimmer riley gaines being chased away and shouted at by trans activists after an event at san francisco state university. gaines was on campus to deliver a speech about keeping trans women out of women's sports. gaines claims she was mobbed and physically assaulted. in a

statement sent to kron 4 news. gaines says the pendulum has swung too far. we shouldn't be put in danger because we want our sports to be safe and fair. videos shared by student run paper golden gate express do not appear to show games being hit. the university's police department says an investigation is underway, but there were no arrests related to the event. gains has been a vocal critic of trans women being included in women's sports following a 5th place tie with transgender swimmer lia thomas at last year's ncaa swimming and diving championships. >> i do think that an all out ban on trans people from being able to participate in sports is unfair and violates title 9. you know, i think our community is entitled to those same protections should not be discriminated against chair of the san francisco democrats and trans activist honey mahogany says the climate right now is dangerous for trans people. she's on board

prevent schools and universities from enacting bans on transgender athletes. if the rule goes into place, it would wipe out the bans passed in recent months in 20 states. this proposal would, however, give schools the ability to reject trans athletes on a case-by-case basis. well, 300 self-driving cruise cars are being recalled after one rear ended a muni bus in late march. crew says the robotaxi, as you can see there did not properly predict how the bus would move as it pulled out of a bus stop on haight street. well, no one was hurt and crew says no other crashes have happened as a result of the software problem. the company has had a lot of scrutiny been under a lot of scrutiny during at san francisco run last year. a car drove away from police during a traffic stop. as you just saw there and several crews cars got tangled in downed muni wires during a recent storm. for your money this morning, the commercial salmon fishing season is officially over. and that's tough news for people who depend on that fishing season for a source of

income. but as kron four's charles clifford explains, help could be on the way. >> well, the closure of salmon fishing season will be a big blow to the thousands of people who rely on 7 fishing for a living here in san francisco on friday, some of california's elected officials promised to do what they can to help. >> active immediately, all recreational and commercial salmon fishing along the california oregon coast has been canceled. the pacific fishery management council which oversees west coast fisheries says the population of chinook salmon has plummeted to the lowest levels in more than a decade. the news is a big blow to the people who rely on salmon fishing for a living. normally the first week of april appear 45 is really bustling. know. recreational season should be open. we should be getting the first reports from the charter boats and instead we have a complete closure. there's a lot of fear and panic all up and down the coast. >> with families trying to figure out how they're going to pay the bills this year because there's no salmon. we've got tens of thousands of people in california that rely on salmon to make a living. >> at a press conference in

lot of relationships that we have with studios and tells representatives. and then we have an incredible pool of submissions. we had over 4,500 this year. so the hospital is curated from over 5,000 we work with a screening committee which is over 100 people. and then my curatorial team is 6 people. and together we see we we over 6,000 minutes in the last few months alone, 6,333, i think was the number so it's just a process getting together. looking at what resonates. you know, we're humans picking films for other humans. right thing that's very unique about a festival. we're not an algorithm putting together what we think you would enjoy. we're looking for stories that we find to be unique and engaging and challenging perhaps ambiguous. and all in conversation with one another. so it's a really incredible opportunity to come and discover some of the brightest story tellers internationally and locally. >> and how does it feel to be part of such an incredible

initiative that means screening all of these films and really just championing the arts in a way here in the bay area. it's amazing to be able to help stewart a legacy that started in 1957. so there is a very entrepreneurial idea of bringing. >> films from around the world and we know people in san francisco in the bay area, our ambitious and curious and want to want to understand the world. and so the idea that we can continue to be able to do that and embrace more of the world different perspectives. we have a lot of young filmmakers. there's something incredibly exciting about it. one of the things that i'm particularly excited about this year's that we're going to be centered at the c g v san francisco at 1000, venice. whole point of the festival is create the space where new people old friends and new friends can be made. >> anything else you want to add to that? i mean, that was fantastic. but and said about an embassy vehicle. i mean, you know, cinematic cinema is a collective experience.

>> welcome back to the city of san francisco. is investing in its artists with a free concert at golden gate park today. 4 bands have partnered with the parks and rec department. there getting paid to put on a show at the bandshell inside the de young museum. the event is called. do you remember it's a reference to the love generation in the 60's. when music lovers would gather at the park to dance and celebrate. caught up with the band leader of the main act.

>> my idea and why i play music and why we're about this is to make people feel something real. i think in a time a lot of disillusionment and disconnected ms. so, you know, there's a broader and tomorrow to make people feel something special in golden gate park where a very special things have happened in the past. >> the free festival starts at noon and goes on until 4 o'clock. its analog because, you know, was record. it's yeah, it's you know, that sounds. but okay. so let's a look at the next story. a hospital in alaska got a visit from a hungry moose. check this out. it was caught munching on a plant in the lobby since it was not being aggressive. hospital workers figured that they did not need to call for help with the professionals and getting the moves out. you can see they move the couch behind it just gently trying to weigh the outside and there it goes with some gentle encouragement. after about 15 minutes that moose left as calmly as it arrived. >> and buddy, you home, but
