stephanie. good morning, everybody. kind of starting off with that fog and cloud cover is the deal. here's the live shot coming from half moon bay. don't fret, however, will see the skies open up for us by the late morning hours into the early afternoon, bit muted for those temperatures of this weekend. it looks like your storm tracker 4. >> it does show up to the north. some traffic to make note of. but that's really good. we're on the peripherals of all of that going we'll see the return of some of this fog again tomorrow morning. and some cloud cover. but on balance looks pretty good for the afternoon again on the cool side. now we're looking at upper 40's across most of the district, not 30's, but 40's, although warm up will be somewhat muted. this afternoon, we have a contrast of several degrees to be up in the north bay, several degrees ahead of where we were this time from yesterday. by as much as 9 degrees. santa rosa, napa even down in san jose at about 6 or so for the breakdown today, put us down for sunny to mostly sunny as we get to the late morning into the early afternoon. high temperatures into the middle to maybe in some cases like 66 67. but then cooling down for

highs as we get into sunday and early into next week. still have spring. the one tap our 7 day forecast will be talking more about that in a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> a big story we're following this morning. the man accused of stabbing and killing prominent tech executive bob lee appeared in court friday for the first time since being arrested and charged with murder. kron four's. dan kerman has more. >> nima momeni, the man accused of killing tech entrepreneur bob lee made his first court appearance friday cameras were barred from the courtroom and the matter was continued to april 25th me nice attorney is out of town. the defendant who faces murder charges will remain behind bars, at least until that date. da's office has asked the judge that he be held without bail during the entirety of the case. momeni's family attended the hearing and court documents allege the victim and the defendant had a dispute revolving around the defendant's sister who lives in the millennium tower. what

it appears from her text messages that there was some type of dispute between the 2 at least that many was upset with mister lee about something prior to them leaving her residence. >> prosecutors say video footage shows lee and momeni leaving the millennium tower during the early morning hours of april. 4th and getting into momeni's car. court documents say defended not only drove victim to a secluded area but also brought a kitchen knife with him. this was a planned and deliberate attack. it's important because it it goes to whether or not we are >> proceeding with the theory of first degree murder which requires premeditation or second degree murder, which is a crime of passion at this point in we're still very much looking at first degree murder. prosecutors say after driving defendant who are removed and remote location. >> defendant stab victim 3 separate times, including twice in the chest. one of the stab wounds penetrated victim's heart immediately after stabbing victim defendant through the kitchen

knife fled the scene in his white bmw at a high rate of speed and lyft victim to slowly die. prosecutors say that knife was recovered. momeni's family members attending the hearing chose not to speak to the media. the attorney representing the defendant also had little to say. >> the facts will come out. what is basically in the process and what's being said, the accurate as far as what occurred will come out in terms of time. many did not enter a plea. he's due back in court on april. 25th. >> at the hall of justice in san francisco, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> and while violent crime remains a concern for many people in san francisco, some city leaders say that there still needs to be a focus on the many and troubling nonviolent crimes. kron four's. dan thorn has the story from the sunset district. >> 2 break-ins at small businesses here on noriega street served as a reminder that property crime is still a big problem in san francisco

district. 4 supervisor joel and guard ios as these crimes cannot be ignored. and the latest report from the city controller's office should be a wake-up call to city government. a vietnamese restaurant and a chinese restaurant both hit by burglars in san francisco's sunset district. >> glass shattered cultural decorations, smashed and cash was stolen. this is the type of crime that we need to remain focused on. this is the type of crime that is making people feel unsafe in francisco supervisor. joel and guard ios as as violent crime and homicide numbers are low. other issues such as property crime and deaths are still big problems and cardio points to a recent city survey on safety and policing. residents gave san francisco a grade of c plus the lowest since 1996. it's because they have catalytic converters their cars in their neighborhood. that happens all over the

sunset. businesses are broken into home invasions. burglaries elders are assaulted and youth are attacked on the muni. >> you add all this up and that's why people feel unsafe. residents in the sunset and parkside neighborhood switching overseas gave a safety grade of b -0 and a police grade of b minus citywide, asian or pacific islander. respondents gave the lowest safety grade of c plus down from a b in 2019. >> residents also gave city government the lowest grade since 2002 see and guard ios as this survey does not reflect a dystopian city. he believes it's time for city leaders to start showing results we need to myself. leaders in san francisco. we have to deliver more. we have to pay attention listen to what people are saying. >> the city survey asked residents about police for the first time this year respondents giving police a grade of c plus. >> asian americans gave police the highest ratings and the

city's black respondents gave them the lowest ratings reporting in san francisco. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> all right. well, happening today, it is the battle for northern california. the golden state warriors take on the sacramento kings in the first round of the playoffs. this is the first time ever that both teams have been in the playoffs at the same time, the warriors are, of course, the defending champions. while the kings have ended, the longest playoff drought in nba history. and this is video you're looking at now from the warriors practice yesterday. andrew wiggins is set to make his return to the court in today's game. he has not played in a game since the middle of february. he's been away from the team dealing with a family matter. >> you know, if you don't play basketball for you, come back those first couple days going to be a little rough, you know, just trying to get back into it. you know, that's not that's our part. you know, back to those for us 2 days. not exactly up to speed, but you're close both. i feel good to feel like, you know, the

>> a santa clara county council member has been indicted for allegedly lying to a civil grand jury about leaking a report on an unethical relationship between the council and the san francisco forty-niners prosecutors say councilman anthony becker leaked the then secret report to the forty-niners days ahead of its planned release in october. becker has been charged with perjury and a misdemeanor for not keeping that report confidential. he is set to be arraigned monday in san jose and faces a maximum sentence of 4 years in county jail. according to the da's office, the forty-niners have been a strong supporter of becker's

>> welcome back. if you plan on taking bart this weekend, you'll have to catch a bus if your train goes through rockridge in orinda. bart is doing track work on saturday and sunday between both stations. riders can catch a free bus ride through the caldecott tunnel. bart says to expect a 30 minute delay. excuse me. also alum rock park in san jose partially reopens for the first time in over 3 months. the park has been closed since new year's eve because of storm damage. for now, it's only open to hikers and cyclists. several trails are still closed. limited parking is available on a first come first serve basis. let's take a live look now outside at the golden gate bridge. and i was hoping for a beautiful blue, clear skies right now. but it's it's looking a little bit overcast. let's check in with day for the latest today. what should people expect this morning? 70. don't worry. just temporary cloud cover start the it will be looking pretty good as we get into the afternoon hours.

>> good morning, everybody. again, she referenced the golden gate bridge. it as that cloud cover. but remember, that's the marine layer that's in place right now in this will mix out. once we get the sunshine up here a little bit. >> and start to go into those mostly sunny skies both today. and it looks like for tomorrow, too. a little cooler, though. tomorrow, though, ae'll see a temperature change as well. so here's the bigger picture we get to the weekend. okay. but as we get into monday and monday night fronts expected to drop south that may potentially bring cloud cover for monday. but that may potentially bring us a little shot of rain into overnight tuesday morning. that's enough to dirty up the car type rain numbers for you. we've got the mid to upper 40's at work right now. as we mentioned earlier, these numbers up in the north. they are actually a big improvement from yesterday. upper 40's also in the east bay. today's forecast about 58 san francisco, one of the cool spots. but 65 san jose. 63 meanwhile for open and those clouds, the party as we get to the late morning hours early afternoon, going check it out here in future cast for waymo. looks pretty good by noon and whatever is

leftover clears out. we do the same thing again tomorrow morning. here's the again. the cloud cover. again. the marine layer mixing out as we approach around the noon hour. so that looks good. we get off this ride a little bit as we start to get into monday. more cloud cover to deal with. and it's monday night that little shot of a shower may happen. blake, you miss it saturday. early clouds clear and variable clouds will color for sunday, but it's kind of the same sort of drill cool with lower highs actually in the 60's or lower 60's at that early into the week, we've got clouds and cool for your saturday or monday, rather and then monday night, there's that little shot of rain. cooler temperatures cool by midweek of the lower 60's and then by the lap latter portion we get back spring again, we're talking middle 70's by the time we get to around friday. so a nice big improvement with that. here's the big board on your temperatures may be scratching into a little but the way lower 70's, the far east bay. but by tomorrow we shave those off again and again. contend with some morning cloud cover will take a look again at that 7 day forecast and look at that little chance of rain on

monday night, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you for that update. >> not a big story we're following for you this morning. 3 men now face murder charges for killing 5 year-old leanna chris the young girl was shot and killed on i-80 in fremont just a week ago. kron four's philippe djegal has the to her brother as the family headed to a birthday dinner the night before easter in milpitar, they were driving along. i-80 in fremont when it happened. the district attorney's office says the defendants fired into the vehicle thinking it was a rival gang car. court records show the suspects were arrested the same night of the killing based on information released by the santa cruz

police department officers in their area took them into custody after leading police on a chase in a red honda accord along highway 17. that's 29 year-old humberto an eye. a 27 year-old emmanuel sarong, though, both from fremont. and 25 year-old krista, why i love from pleasanton. all 3 suspects are facing felony murder and weapons charges and have been jailed without bail. about 15 minutes before the killing. the district attorney's office says the suspects were involved in another shooting on fremont boulevard. 2 of the defendants commented on the victim's red clothing and one opened fire. the victim ran off and was not injured. all 3 men are facing felony weapons charges in that case, too. christmas tomo family friend ashley walker spoke with elly on his parents friday saying, quote, all they ask is for justice for their baby girl. an eye us around go and i i love all the drama are due back in court next week.

believe all kron 4 news. >> oakland police are reporting a spike in small business burglaries across the city. more than a dozen commercial burglaries happened the week of march 23rd and 7 chinatown. businesses were also hit in just one night. i spoke with oakland mayor sheng tao on how the city is responding. >> it is completely frustrating. and, you know, i understand that frustration. you i know my car actually was broken into just yesterday. and, you know, i'm not i mean today, i'm happy to announce that i worked with the police chief allison, and we're actually schedule ii burglaries and these kinds of break-in as priority number one cause down. so they will be attended to a lot quicker. >> the car break-in mayor tell was talking about happened thursday night while she attended the new steph curry movie screening at the grand lake theater. oakland says they'll have more officers on patrol in high break in areas. in the meantime. and a man injured in a hit and run crash

in san jose last month has died. the collision happened march 22nd near east santa clara and south 10th street. police say a truck ran a red light and hit the man in a crosswalk. 72 year-old hung ran died at the hospital thursday. police say the truck involved was stolen. they are still looking for the driver. this marks san jose's 7th traffic death of the year. in national news, the white house announced a new effort to crack down on fentanyl traffickers. our washington, d.c., correspondent basil john has the details. >> friday attorney general merrick garland announced a major operation to disrupt fentanyl trafficking from mexico. united states government is using every tool at its disposal to combat the fentanyl epidemic. the doj says the sinaloa cartel makes the drug using chemicals from china and sell them in the u.s. mixed with other drugs or as counterfeit pain medications, many americans are unaware that they are

purchasing and being poisoned by fentanyl. the new effort is part of the biden administration's broader fight against fentanyl traffickers cracking down on the supply multifaceted and got the administration wants to hurt the supply chain by working with banks here and abroad to go after the drug makers financial accounts. ultimately, people want to do all this is profit from. we can disrupt that. we're getting in a key piece of the administration is also partnering with shipping carriers to cut off access to illicit substances is the extent of the joint freshman. >> has to look at the white said a possible venue was and transportation channels. van der feel about brown with the brookings institute says these tactics will also support the u.s. and its related diplomatic efforts to point sailors, all the government of mexico with the limitations, the phases of the government in china. the president is also asking congress to permanently classify fentanyl as a schedule. one drug

>> this latest move gives the justices time to consider questions raised by abortion opponents challenging the drug safety. the fda approved the mifepristone back in 2000 and the supreme court's hold on. lower court's ruling remains in effect until midnight next wednesday. and this week, the supreme court also ruled 6 billion dollars in student loan forgiveness can move forward. the decision is expected to affect 200,000 borrowers. the high court refused to block a class action settlement related to loans which argued borrowers claims should be canceled because they were defrauded by the schools. the settlement is not related to president biden's larger plan to forgive student loan debt that cover some 430 billion dollars in debt for 40 million borrowers. that case is also before the supreme court. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, san francisco city leaders announced a new proposal to come back homelessness in the city. man: i'm not slowing down anytime soon. city. >> and it will not be cheap.

afternoon, the should even start to clear up as well. we'll see that, of course, in those inland areas, much quicker. >> upstream, we don't see too much the way of interference again except these morning hours. we get that marine layer starts to thicken up a bit and we get some of that scattered cloud cover that has the kind of mix out temperature check. we're in the mid to upper 40's at this hour. we expect today to be a little bit warmer than tomorrow and that cool off continues as we get to about tuesday, wednesday of next week before we snap back to a little flavor of yet spring again, here's that fog i mentioned in the morning. watch it. go away real quickly and it's going to repeat tomorrow morning and will disappear very quickly as well. so we're back to that kind of routine at the ballpark for the oakland a's 107, game time. temps lower 60's, cool. and sunny. little bit of a breeze on the west at about 10 and for us today we're looking at temperatures getting to the mid 60's at least inland again tomorrow, shaving a little bit off of that and we reach our little cool spot by about tuesday wednesday next week. we'll have more on longer range forecast coming up in a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you.

>> last june, san francisco enacted an ordinance making it official city policy to offer every person a safe place to sleep. on friday, mayor london breed announced a new plan to get the city closer to that goal. kron four's haaziq madyun explains. welcome home. >> so he's going to be allowed to breed, says since 2019, the city has made progress towards the ambitious goals of investing in homeless prevention programs, transitioning people into services and creating more housing. >> but we know that people still see a number of folks who are struggling on the streets and want us to do more. and we need to do more now, mayor breed and the city's department of homelessness and supportive housing are announcing home by the bay, a new 5 year strategic plan to not only prevent but also in homelessness in san francisco. >> the 5 goals include reducing the unsheltered population by 50%, reducing racial inequities in city

programs. supporting 30,000 people into permanent housing, ensuring 85% of those do not experience becoming homeless again and providing prevention services to 18,000 people who are at risk of homelessness. so this 5 year strategic plan which really focuses on equity. >> is a first step in trying to make sure that yes, we met our last kohl's to a certain extent. >> but we want to create new goals that are very ambitious to get to a better place here in the city and county of san francisco regarding homelessness. the unhoused perspective being included in the framework of the new plan was essentials says the chief operating officer of to plowshares trim garner and making sure that the policies and things that are coming out from the department are really having the intended impact. >> that is meant to folks who are living on the streets, folks who are living in supportive housing and people who are trying to really move out of supportive housing out into the community because

they're ready to do so. officials at the mayor's progress on home by the bay will be assessed a regular bases that among the next steps will be development of the initial implementation plan. >> in san francisco haaziq kron. 4 news. >> and we're hearing from the brother of the san mateo woman kidnapped in mexico, monica de leon barba. how was taken in november of last year. and police go this week. the fbi released new video of her last known whereabouts kron four's gayle ong reports. >> it's difficult scene. the act, gustavo de leon, is the brother of monica de leon barba the cemetery, a woman who was kidnapped in mexico on november. 29th of last year. this week, the fbi released surveillance video in hopes to find her. >> you can see these people move in towards my sister and it's difficult to watch. it also makes me very hopeful

because we we have identified them. and some capacity. >> the first clip shows de leon barba walking down the street shortly before she was abducted. the second clip shows the people the fbi believes are involved in her disappearance. fbi san francisco special agent in charge robert trip. the video shows at least 4 who were involved in this as well as for vehicles. and we're hoping that these prop the public to remember something and to contact the fbi with information. >> her brother says de leon barba travel to their hometown, tampa to atlanta. police go mexico to take a break. she was also doing freelance photography for a cousin who has a fashion studio out there. it's a town where everyone knows each other. >> and i hope that this information somebody will be able to if not identified, needs these people that. decided to do this heinous thing, then at least the vehicles that can help us lead

us to them during her stay. she adopted a stray dog that was left behind after she was kidnapped. >> her dog was later safely located and recovered by a family member has always been very sweet. and i guess for walks when he was taking pictures of nature or the surrounding the little puppy followed her. so she decided adopt or the fbi is offering a $40,000 reward to help bring her back to the united states. we believe monica. >> is still alive and we are desperately attempting to find information about where she's being held. anyone with information about monica de leon barba's whereabouts is asked to contact your local fbi office. >> or the nearest american embassy or consulate gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> the california department of justice is investigating thursday's officer-involved shooting in newark. the crime happened in the area of cedar boulevard and maori avenue near newport, new park mall at around 03:20pm, officers were

alerted of a carjacking suspect in the area when they located the car. additional officers arrived on scene. and that's when the shooting happened. killing one of the suspects. the case is also being investigated by the alameda county da's office. state lawmakers are working to change campaign finance laws. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace walks us through the new legislation that could allow taxpayer money to one day help finance candidates buying for office. >> well, we all know it can be expensive to run for office, especially office here in california. big money leads to big results. that's why candidates often turn to special interest to help fund their campaigns. but some lawmakers here at the state capitol say their proposal can change that new pieces of legislation from democratic assembly member alex lee and democratic senators bergen. ben allen would allow county governments, districts and general law cities to upper public funds for campaigns as it stands today. they are

prohibited from publicly funding campaigns. but if this legislation makes it out of the legislature, voters would have the opportunity to vote on the ballot measure whether to allow county governments districts in general law cities to offer public funds for campaigns. important to note state law does make an exception for charter cities, which is why los angeles, long beach berkeley, san francisco and oakland have launched their own programs on this issue. while opponents have argued this is just more government spending, assembly member lee said it is worth writing in a statement, quote, public financing of campaigns is the best way to empower voters. increased diversity of candidates running for office and give voters confidence that big money can't just buy their elections now because this is a proposed ballot measure real need at least two-thirds approval from the legislature to qualify for the 2024 ballot reporting at the state capitol. wallace kron. 4 news. >> coming up on the kron 4 morning news. your power bill could soon very different. what pg and e is proposing that could cost more for some customers and less for others.

victim and the defendant had a dispute revolving around the defendant's sister who lives in the millennium tower. what it appears from her text messages that there was some type of dispute between the 2 at least that many was upset with mister lee about something prior to them leaving her residence. >> prosecutors say video footage shows lee and momeni leaving the millennium tower during the early morning hours of april. 4th and getting into momeni's car. court documents say defended not only drove victim to a secluded area but also brought a kitchen knife with him. this was a planned and deliberate attack. it's important because it it goes to whether or not we are >> proceeding with the theory of first degree murder which requires premeditation or second degree murder, which is a crime of passion at this point in we're still very much looking at first degree murder. prosecutors say after driving defendant who are removed and remote location, defendant stab victim 3 separate times, including twice in the chest.

stephanie. all right, dave, thank you for that. >> a big story we're following this morning. 3 men now face murder charges for killing 5 year-old eliana chris the young girl was shot and killed on i-880, in fremont just a week ago. kron four's philippe djegal has the latest. >> 3 suspected gang members are being held at the santa rita jail in dublin without bail, arrested and booked by police, then charged with first-degree murder by the alameda county district attorney's office in connection with the deadly shooting of 5 year-old ellie on a christmas tomo. a bullet struck her heart and her parents car while sitting next to her brother as the family headed to a birthday dinner the night before easter in milpitas, they were driving along. i-80 in fremont when it happened. the district attorney's office says the defendants fired into the vehicle thinking it was a rival gang car. court records show the suspects were arrested the same night of the killing based on information released by the santa cruz

police department officers in their area took them into custody after leading police on a chase in a red honda accord along highway 17. that's 29 year-old humberto an eye. a 27 year-old emmanuel sarong, though, both from fremont. and 25 year-old krista, why i love from pleasanton. all 3 suspects are facing felony murder and weapons charges and have been jailed without bail. about 15 minutes before the killing. the district attorney's office says the suspects were involved in another shooting on fremont boulevard. 2 of the defendants commented on the victim's red clothing and one opened fire. the victim ran off and was not injured. all 3 men are facing felony weapons charges in that case, too. christmas tomo family friend ashley walker spoke with elly on his parents friday saying, quote, all they ask is for justice for their baby girl. an eye us around go and i i love all the drama are due back in court next week.

and court documents allege the victim and the defendant had a dispute revolving around the defendant's sister who lives in the millennium tower. what it appears from her text messages that there was some type of dispute between the 2 at least that many was upset with mister lee about something prior to them leaving her residence. >> prosecutors say video footage shows lee and momeni leaving the millennium tower during the early morning hours of april. 4th and getting into momeni's car. court documents say defended not only drove victim to a secluded area but also brought a kitchen knife with him. this was a planned and deliberate attack. it's important because it it goes to whether or not we are >> proceeding with the theory of first degree murder which requires premeditation or second degree murder, which is a crime of passion at this point in we're still very much looking at first degree murder. prosecutors say after driving defendant who are removed and remote location. >> defendant stab victim 3

>> 2 break-ins at small businesses here on noriega street served as a reminder that property crime is still a big problem in san francisco district. 4 supervisor joel and guard ios as these crimes cannot be ignored. and the latest report from the city controller's office should be a wake-up call to city government. a vietnamese restaurant and a chinese restaurant both hit by burglars in san francisco's sunset district. >> glass shattered cultural decorations, smashed and cash was stolen. this is the type of crime that we need to remain focused on. this is the type of crime that is making people feel unsafe in francisco supervisor. joel and guard ios as as violent crime and homicide numbers are low. other issues such as property crime and deaths are still big problems and cardio points to a recent city survey on safety and policing. residents gave san francisco a grade of c plus the lowest since 1996.

anniversary season with performances of romeo and juliet starting next week. and joining us live now to tell us all about it is one of the stars of this production and the first black principal dancer to dance with the ballet. the key go. thank you so much. thank you, for being here with us this morning. thank you for having me. they're so excited to have you. i saw you in the nutcracker last year. you were the sugar plum fairy just gorgeous. and, you know, tell us a bit about how it feels to dance the role of juliet. >> it feels so amazing to have the chance to. indulge in the role of juliet because there's so much emotion that goes into this role. and it's so nice to get to interpret the role of juliet. and she's such a young strong girl that then goes through the whole journey through this whole going from a young girl into that more mature and in the end, you know. the tragedy in.

>> yes, that is this your first time playing the role of julian. how do you get yourself mentally prepared for that? yes, my first time it's a it's an interesting process. first getting to know the steps and then getting familiar with the music and then making the small choices of how to interpret the role and make it personal to you. and it is just such a incredible. experience to go through as an artist and how much how much time have you spent in terms of preparing for the role itself? and, you know, getting the dance moves down. around, maybe a month or so yeah, ok, ok, that's very exciting. and what kind of mindset you kind of put yourself into to make sure that your really feeling those emotions and that's coming across on stage. tried to be

as genuine as possible and try to feel the maybe try imagine myself how it would feel and the moment and every show and every time i i heard said it's going to be a bit different and try to just accept that and be small as possible. all right. and so we love to learn a bit more about you and your personal story as well. it's not easy breaking into the yard. so how did you get your start? >> well, i started to the young as a child that just always love to move in benson. as long as i can remember. >> and the my sister always dancing around some. my parents like, okay. i guess we're going let you down so i just love that. and i actually didn't start out with valley start-up with hip-hop and jazz. really everything. but bell that is so it. so how did ballet kind of come into the picture? and you also grew up

overseas yes, i grew up in sweden yeah, came into the picture. i saw the vienna state opera years. khan said that shows on tv worldwide and i saw that on tv and it just fell in love with ballet and then ask my parents to lift me in. cup, beating them and it was that was what spike my love for then i had a little bit of a fool. full circle moment because i joined the vienna state opera as my first professional company after that. that's incredible. and i imagine it's very competitive trying to find a role as a ballerina and >> just being in the arts in general, any challenges that you faced along the way in any advice that you for people? i think that in general, i always try to just have fun. and as long as i feel passionate and have fun with it. it's always going to be

worth it in the matter, the struggle and i think that's my biggest too. just have fun. you only live once and. if you feel passionate about something, just go for you mentioned that you start out abroad, you grew up abroad and then when did you come to san francisco? >> i move. it's here in the middle of the pandemic. 20. okay. that was interesting. how has your bay area experience been so far so far? it's been really kids. yeah. despite the beginning of the pandemic where it was basically empty now it's coming to life again. and i'm really for the funding love this wonderful, any favorite spots that you found in your explorations of the bay area so i just love going to the beach and seeing all the views and the nature and i just love

texas ruling that banned access to the pill by mail. well, this latest move gives the justices time to consider questions raised by abortion opponents challenging the drug safety. the fda approved mifepristone back in 2000. the supreme court's hold on the lower court's ruling remains in effect until midnight next wednesday. and this week, the supreme court also ruled 6 billion dollars in student loan forgiveness can move forward. the decision is expected to affect 200,000 borrowers. the high court refused to block a class action settlement related to loans which are give borrowers claims should be canceled because they were defrauded by the schools. the settlement is not related to president biden's larger plan to forgive student loan debt that cover some 430 billion dollars in student d bt for 40 million borrowers. that case is also before the supreme court. happening today. it is the secrnd weekend of the annual cherry blossom festival in san francisco. and just look at all those costumes there. it starts at the japantown peace plaza at 11 this morning. more

some warm stuff on the side. 74 looks like by friday and into next weekend. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you. well, spring is officially here and it is a time when people start to plan their next vacation. well, fortunately, our travel enthusiast. dana redmond is here with a look at one idea that you might enjoy river cruising in europe. that sounds so relaxing a good morning today. no running. so tell us all about spring as a fantastic time to go to europe. >> the days are getting longer. the temperatures are rising there. it's calm in comparison to that summer crash that we know is going to be here very soon. ok now, like ocean cruising river cruising is the type of thing you unpack once. okay. every day you have the opportunity to wake up in a new location. this video is is less than a week old. i was one of 78 guests on board the ship. emerald luna. we were sailing in the netherlands with one stop in belgium river. cruising in general is an incredibly relaxing way to see a variety of sites because all

of logistics are handled for travelers. everything from meals to transportation, to entrance tickets to sought after locations like the netherlands cook inhofe park now cooking of park is arguably. probably the most famous spring destination in all of europe. the gardens boost 7 million flowering. yes, 7 million think tulips hyacinths daffodils. if you can name it, it's probably there. 40 full-time gardeners work year round. but the garden is only open to the public for 2 months. mid-march to mid-may. so you've got a fairly limited window there to work with the garden designs change every year. but adding to the scenery surrounding the park are actually a number of commercial growing fields. so you've got these fields just full of bold is that are coming into bloom. it just makes for quite quite the vision. you can't walk through them, but you can actually go for an electric boat ride and it just takes you through

their absolutely stunning. but truthfully, it is the smell that you will probably remember for to come. it isn't enough at least. this is just gorgeous video you're showing of us here and people in the this is only for people's viewing enjoyment, though they can actually take the flow. they cannot actually pick the flowers. you can buy flowers there, if you would like to take some tulips along with you. but really it's about being there. >> being in the moment, smelling it, seeing it, taking it all an easy day trip. france jam another spot in amsterdam that is year round. let's go not maybe as colorful but equally impressive to the botanic garden. so one of the oldest botanical gardens, it goes back to like the early 16, 100's set on 3 acres, right smack dab in the middle of amsterdam. it's home to some 4,000 species of plants from all around the world. there are elevated walkways spiral, staircases. you get these kind of fun, bird's eye view of the place. even if you're not a garden person, even if you're not typically, you know, you're the person that struggle to keep that one

probably going to think this is a really interesting location. there's just something to see one of the green houses, for example, this one, you know, hundreds of butterflies, but everything growing in this greenhouse is a commercial crop plant. coffee cake. how sugar cane. but hundreds of butterflies. it's one of those spots. when you walk in, how can you not smile? all right. i mean, i'm smiling, video storage. it's just one of those stunning places and nice and warm, which is always something good for this time of let's leave amsterdam and head to the hague. we're going take a quick stop at the merritt haas museum. now, this is a small but mighty museum along with 11 rembrandts. there's what is often referred to as the dutch version of the mona lisa. it is the girl with the pearl earring by johann u.s. from there she is. this painting painting is wildly popular. a recent book, a recent movie. it draws crowds. we have it all to ourselves. now. why is

that? because guess on emerald luna were able to get in an hour before the museum actually open, which meant you could have moments. this was what was waiting as we left a museum was opening to beat the crowd. so you beat the i don't often recommend museums, but it especially in a circumstance like this. this museum is incredibly small, but it has a mighty collection. you can be in and out probably in an hour, truthfully, even less. if you have a circumstance where you can get it to yourself for moments like this. absolutely incredible. yeah. and the netherlands. it doesn't feel right going to the netherlands and not seeing a windmill. what we need welcome to williams died even on a rainy day. this was our one rainy day of the trip. it's just charming. even in the rain. it's charming. and this is one of the those locations where i enjoyed river cruising probably wouldn't be on the radar of many people. but once they're on the ground, a play on a play in a place like this, they really tend to enjoy the time the half and those houses are just

adorable. one of those houses, it was a gals one 100th birthday. so she was waving to people as they walk to buy a house. you get to quiet neighborhood community moments like that to location which service was offering these river cruises. so this is and rolled cruises. i was aboard luhnow, which is a fairly new ship, thus destinations that we were sailing was very specific. well itinerary because of coke and hot cooking off will close at the end of may and change. but they run cruises all summer long and about how much would this cost someone if they wanted to take a similar route is a similar route. i would say plan on about 25 $2600. and it's going to vary depending on the week, depending on the cabin, you choose all sorts of upgrades. you can do it for about $2600. it will cover your meals, your transportation, all of the entrances, a daily chore. all right. wonderful. well, thank you so much to our travel as the president love to see you. always good to be here. all right. we'll be right back.

community members planted 42 trees at colombian gardens park in oakland friday morning in honor of earth month. the student conservation association hosted the event which was about equity, as well as the environment. one study shows that affluent neighborhoods have almost 50% more greenery, then low income communities. organizers said
