covering a heck of a love for you this morning. but first, let u.s. start with the weather. it's pretty rainy out there day. >> yeah, we're dealing with those scattered showers yet again. stephanie, good morning. and good morning. all giving a snapshot of what it looks like right now. some heavier waves off to the central valley and then a nice little collection there in the east bay, as notice right now as we speak, this is going to continue throughout the morning and even early afternoon, but really, from the standpoint of will say the northwestern quadrant we're starting in the north bay, how the rain typically sometimes start to the winter and then shifting off towards the east. that will be the clearing pattern. so we'll say by noon it looks pretty much clearing out for the north are in and out of san francisco. there's the golden gate bridge for you right now. and yes, looking like a sloppy saturday here. but again, conditions will improve by this afternoon. there's your onshore winds. temperatures holding kind of cool in the 50's for right now. but onshore wind not going anywhere. there's the cloud pattern with the rain behind and you can see the general pattern of the heavier stuff is off to the southeast in the east. again, we're into

the 50's right now. lower to middle 50's. our breakdown. here's that clearing pattern trying to develop into the early afternoon with a few showers. temperatures will be on the cool side. just sub 60. now tomorrow looks like a much better sunnier day. we'll have more details on that coming up in just a bit. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you. our top story this morning, a historic moment in the united kingdom for the first time in 70 years, the country saw the coronation of a new king. our trevor shirley is live in london now with the very latest on this. good morning to you, trevor. >> hey there. good morning to you as well. from a very rainy london that hasn't dampened the spirits, though, of everybody that's come out to try to catch again. glimpse of the king as he passed through london earlier today. the ceremony wrapped up about an hour ago and for the most part, it went off without a single problem. and that goes to show just the level of detail that goes into planning an event like this that hasn't been seen in almost 70 years.

back here in the bay area. thousands of teachers in oakland continue their strike after failed contract negotiations. the district is offering to give teachers a 22% pay raise. and a $5,000 bonus. but the teachers union says this is not just about the money. >> our students are doing the best that they can with what to do with the resources that we have. but we're clear that it's just not enough. i would say the biggest thing with his class sizes, more for each students. also, nurses at every site is so important. >> the union says a tentative agreement might be reached but only at the district comes up with more offers. d ou can follow the latest developments on the teacher's stoth on air and online. just scan the qr code. that's right there on your screen. you'll be directed to our coverage of the negotiations between the district and its teachers. >> oakland city leaders say the wood street encampment is now cleared and ready to become a space for affordable

homes. >> kron four's terisa stasio has the details. >> more than 700 tons of trash. this is a close-up look at the effort to clear the wood street encampment in oakland for the past 3 weeks, a crew of city employees along with community support services. >> work to remove years of debris and relocate those who called the slot home and we were able to successfully move. 57 people into program while also closing that encampment. but honda simmons's oakland's assistant city administrator and acting homeless administrator. >> she says the city was able to place 80% of residents into either the wood street cabin program. >> or into safe rv parking. >> the needs of the community were were pretty d. and we recognize that this was a very difficult process for them as well as for the city in terms of being able to close the encampment. so we are able to bring in clinicians from alameda county, lifelong health services. we were able to also have ms in terms of

our paramedics on standby for any health emergencies that we thought the community needed some support. we also had animal services there because we had one individual who related as many as 25 cat over the years problems plague the lot most recently. >> a large fire threatened a nearby treatment plant, shutting down a section of 5.80. >> and left one person dead. >> this was a danger that was unprecedented in terms of not just the size of the encampment, that the things he act that could have placed a lot of individuals in heart. >> mayor sheng tao said about the closure, quote, safety and securing dignified shelter for every resident. we're our primary goals in this closure, unquote. simmons says that the property is slated to become an affordable housing project with 170 units for up to 500 residents. she says clearing the encampment. it's just one step in working towards helping others in oakland.

>> we know we have much more work to do. there's so much more homelessness throughout the district as well as throughout the city of oakland. and we now have an incredible tempted to continue that work to be able to bring closure to the needs of those that are on the street in terms of closures to encampments as stasio kron, 4 news. >> san francisco police are investigating a shooting at the venice muni station. it happened friday afternoon on market street, not far from civic center and city hall. this is video of the scene from the citizen app. police say a 30 year-old man was shot. he is expected to survive. plastic now covers a broken window at the walgreens on market street in san francisco. this is where banco brown, a transgender man was shot and killed by a private security guard last week. investigators say the guard believe brown, the shoplifting and that brown threatened the guard. the guard says he shot brown in self-defense. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins said this week she is not bringing charges

against the guard after reviewing the evidence. on thursday, we learned prominent bay area civil rights attorney john burris is now getting involved. his team says they're asking the da's office for surveillance footage of the incident, which jenkins has said she is not releasing to the public. coming up on the kron 4 morning news, the investigation into pepper spray attacks on homeless people in san francisco continues. >> one of the potential suspects, a former city fire official. plus more calls for dianne feinstein's resignation. we have perspective from local experts on the potential impacts coming up. and after the break, a preview of tonight's matchup between the dubs and matchup between the dubs and the lakers fans can catc how do we decide what hotel to book?

>> that is it is and lots of moisture to be had to have the fog with the cloud cover and some showers working their magic to. good morning, stephanie. good morning. all go to the radar there you see a nice little clump there in the east bay for right now on balance. you know, some spotty scattered showers, us how we're going to phrase it through the morning. everybody. then some gradual clearing working in the northwest down south east. wow. we've got some fog working here in the east bay shoreline. you can see here there's a and the shrubbery here for the foreground because your general idea how thick this fog in this marine layer is in place with the scattered showers working again this morning. now, we won't say a washout for today because we'll start to clear up from the northwest down to the southeast today and tomorrow we'll start off with again. some cloud cover might be some fog issues. but again, that will clear out for a mostly sunny day. let's hand it over to future cast for here. we have those showers. they were main to the southeast, clearing out late tonight or late this afternoon and through tonight this evening. here comes the cloud cover back again tomorrow morning. but it clears out a

lot quicker won't have as much shower activity associated with it. but i do want to note into next week as quiet as it will be relatively speaking monday. we do have this hit of some early showers there now that we're going to favor the north bay. but again, that opportunity for showers is there to start the day off. most of the winds on shore today. they're not to advisory strength at all, but they get to the general idea. they remain pretty consistent and persistent in the teens all day today through tonight. so here's what we're talking about. showers late clearing northwest through southeast 50's coast 60's bay and inland tomorrow, early clouds, but then clearing out. still those temperatures holding in the 60's even well inland. we'll call that mild still now for next week's scattered clouds. mention them and a shower that will be in the morning hours. mostly clearing out gradually through tuesday, rest of the week and we're warming. we may pop 80 or so by thursday, but by friday will be in the business of the 80's for today. 59 san francisco got to keep those rain drops in here. i think by the giants game it

will be finishing by that point with pm clearing same kind of deal for oakland and the showers. a little bit more delay for san jose, although popping about 64 for a high on the big board, some mid 60's to the east bay and also up to the north bay next couple of days. again, we have some traffic to get rid of. and then as we get into early this week, clearing out, we'll have more on that longer range forecast a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> the end of the covid-19 emergency is changing state programs like how fresh on june 10th, the pandemic era eligibility rules for college students experiencing food. insecurity is expiring until now. students who qualified for work study programs or who have no family contribution to their education automatically benefited and could receive up to $280 per month for groceries. now students have to apply before the deadline to continue to receive benefits. and that apology professor at uc berkeley is apologizing for falsely identifying as being indigenous. elizabeth hoover

says she is a so-called white person that's in quotes who lived in identity as a woman of mohawk and a descent based on family legends. hoover is facing pressure to resign her position since last year when she first acknowledged she had never confirmed her indigenous roots. but it benefited from programs and funding meant for native scholars. senator dianne feinstein says she plans to return to the senate, but he's not saying when the 88 9 year-old senator has not been at work shingles diagnosis in late february. her absence has a lot of people have said, including some fellow democrats and now the powerful new york times editorial board is calling for her to resign. kron four's dan thorn has the story. >> it's not a matter of if, but when senator feinstein says in her return to the senate, the 89 year-old hasn't been back to capitol hill since the february recess hospitalized with the case of shingles. cal state east bay political science professor elizabeth bergman says the senator's nearly 2 month

absence is a little alarming. it's concerning because she represents 39 million people. we are effectively down representative in congress, largest state in the union. so it's troubling. the professor points to key votes feinstein is needed for, including advancing judicial nominees, some of which have been delayed or stock in committee. >> feinstein's absences triggered several democrats, including south bay congressman roe to call for her resignation. >> the senator on thursday released a statement trying to calm concerns saying the senate continues to swiftly confirm highly qualified individuals to the federal judiciary, including 7 more judicial nominees who were confirmed this week. there's been no slowdown for the trying to portray it >> kind of a non factor i think is a disingenuous and doesn't help the case for it to say that my absence is not

having an impact on the committee when we know it is. bergen says the issue really comes down to feinstein committing to a timeline. the professor notes that the senator has made countless contributions, but her capabilities are right now in question. >> and without a sense of urgency from her, it could tarnish that legacy and no one disparaging her great legacy and her work and her. >> looking to the past? there's no question about that. we have to look to the future. >> and the futures looking pretty bleak right now because we don't have a return date for her reporting in san francisco. >> dan thorn kron, 4 news. >> bay area, health officials are seeing an increase of covid cases linked to a new variant. it's being dubbed the arcturus variant samples collected show that this variant accounted for less than 2% of cases in early april. but now just a month later, it accounts for over 12.5%. those tracking covid in wastewater have also found a similar uptick.

>> in the south bay, san jose mayor matt mahan is supporting a bill. he says addresses how the state deals with mental illness. he says it would also help address homelessness in california senate bill 43 would update the definition of gravely disabled to provide easier access to resources for people with severe mental illnesses or substance abuse issues. i spoke with the mayor on friday about how the bill would ultimately save lives. >> by not compelling people to come in and get treatment for even 30, 60, 90 days, maybe 180 days, a reasonable period of time. our jails have become our default, mental health hospitals. and so that's really what this bill is about. it's about creating an alternative to the streets in jail and creating inpatient

places where people can go to get real treatment for serious behavioral health issues. and it absolutely will help address our homelessness crisis. >> according to the city's most recent homeless census survey, there are nearly 7,000 homeless residents in san jose. officials in sonoma county say nearly 36% of businesses failed price, accuracy inspections and warned of possible overcharges. the department that oversees price accuracy inspecticns says they saw a 10% increase in inaccuracies this year. the county is asking residents to verify charges on their retail receipts reminding businesses it is illegal to charge a price higher than what is posted or advertised. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, the california reparations task force is set to make its final recommendations to state lawmakers. >> what we know about the proposals now at the top of the list. and as we head to break for the weekend, there was the year. but gardens festival starts at one this

little bit. let's get to that radar. just a real quick to show you what's going on there. you see what's going on actually right now, looks like we do have some commitment of some rain in the east bay and then it's very spotty and it's becoming more of a drizzle and spurts soul and all these other fun terms to use. we do see some later clearing happening in the northwest to the southeast through today. certainly on surface moisture. hello, fog. nice to see you again. there's the east bay shoreline believe me, it's behind all that fog in the bay is behind that onshore winds all day today through tonight. it looks like it will actually get into the teens a little bit. they're sold. kind of a stiff breeze is probably the fairest way to freeze it. good coverage area for the whole bay, too. right now our temperatures are in the lower to middle 50's over most of the district. a lot of uniformity with those temperatures. what to do for the game later today will for 15, we'll finish up some of the showers from the standpoint of san francisco. cool winds out of the west-southwest at around 15. breaking it down for you today will keep it cloudy to again. some of that drizzle working its magic and some sun poking out in the early afternoon.

chief bill scott facing questions about a bear spray attacks on and house people dating back to november 2020 was chief scott says information report it that the suspect description is the same in each case is not accurate. there were. >> a pretty wide range of descriptions of this person in terms of the size of the person, the way to the person. so i would not say that's accurate. according to san francisco police investigators, the suspect is described predominantly as male one incident. the suspect reported to be female races, white or hispanic. >> between 30 to 50 years of age weighing between 160, up to 300 pow nother issue related to this case is that there's been some commentary asking kind of why didn't we the public know about this? these bears brand tax came to light during a recent criminal proceeding at the hall of justice. in the case of the people versus garret doty homeless person accused of assaulting former sf fire commissioner don harmon,

san francisco haaziq kron. 4 news. >> happening today, the california african american reparations task force is meeting in oakland. they could vote on a list of proposals to compensate black californians before the proposal heads to state lawmakers. the task force is 500 page draft includes a detailed list of what they call races policies. black californians have faced, including over-policing housing discrimination and unequal access to health care. people who qualify would have to prove they are a descendant of the u.s. slave or a free person who lived in the u.s. before the end of the 19th century. it remains unclear how the state would pay for it. all. but co-chair and reverend amos brown says other states like other states, rather, california has to pay for any past wrongs. >> they doubt that other people who've been row. received from germany. payments. >> was not all that once was on a stalled plan, but it was done.

>> we pay down debt. the japanese community. under the reagan administration. we must not send the message signal. >> if the task force approved the recommendations, they will head to the state legislature and senate who can then make any changes before a final vote. happening tomorrow, a newly constructed off-ramp on the bay bridge will be reopened on yerba buena island. the original alignment of this ramp was closed nearly 20 years ago to accommodate work on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the new off ramp is located on the far right lane just past the tunnel in the eastbound direction. on the lower deck of the bay bridge. meanwhile, the existing off-ramp located on the far left lane will remain open for several weeks while drivers adjust to the changes. officials say the new off-ramps design improve safe access by creating a separation from traffic, merging onto the bridge and allowing space for larger vehicles. another big story

we're following. the suspect connected to a series of stabbings near uc davis has pleaded not guilty. carlos dominguez, who has ties to the bay area and attended uc davis and laney college was in court yesterday. demand is accused of stabbing 2 people to death, including a fellow student, also attacking a 3rd victim who is now recovering. investigators found a large knife in his possession. yolo county prosecutors say he's eligible for life in prison without the possibility of parole. open is announcer. glenn kiper is apologizing for apparently saying the n word during a pre-game show. it appears kiper meant to say the name of a museum in kansas city. he visited yesterday, which is leagues, baseball team for weeks. he excuse me need league's baseball museum. kiper issued an apology during yesterday's game. >> this one too well, it earlier in the show. said something did come out quite the way. i wanted it to. want to apologize if if that

sounded different, then. i meant it. to be said. said wanted to apologize for that. >> the a's tweeted a response saying, quote, the language used by clinton kiper during today's pre-game broadcast is unacceptable. the oakland a's do not condone such language. we're working to address the situation. happening today. san mateo county law enforcement agencies are holding a gun buyback event. it's at the south in south san francisco at the san mateo county superior court. branch on mission road right across from kaiser. all guns will be excepted. no questions asked. people can get up to 200 guns in or out of $200 in cash for these weapons. the event starts at 10 this morning. and some sad news for pop culture, tech makers and creators silicon 2023 has been canceled. organizers did not have a clear explanation why but said that they looked at a lot of options but just couldn't make things work

thousands of teachers in oakland continue their strike after failed contract negotiations. >> the district is offering to give teachers a 22% pay raise. and a $5,000 bonus. but the teachers union says this is not just about the money. >> our students are doing the best that they can with what to do with the resources that we have. but we're clear that it's just not enough. i would say the biggest thing with his class sizes, more for each students. also, nurses at every site is so important. >> the union says a tentative agreement might be reached but only at the district comes up with more offers. you can follow the latest developments on the strike both on air and online to scan the qr code right there on your screen. you'll be directed to our coverage of the ongoing negotiations between the school district and its teachers. oakland city leaders say the wood street encampment is now cleared and ready to become the safes. a space for affordable homes. kron four's stasio has the details. >> more than 700 tons of

trash. this is a close-up look at the effort to clear the wood street encampment in oakland. >> for the past 3 weeks, a crew of city employees along with community support services, work to remove years of debris and relocate those who call this lot home. and we were able to successfully move 57 people into program also closing that encampment. but honda simmons's oakland's assistant city administrator and acting homeless administrator. >> she says the city was able to place 80% of residents into either the wood street cabin program. >> or into safe rv parking. >> the needs of the community were were pretty d. and we recognize that this was a very difficult process for them as well as for the city in terms of being able close the encampment. so we are able to bring in clinicians from alameda county, lifelong health services. we were able to also have ms in terms of our paramedics on standby for any health emergencies that we

thought the community needed some support. we also had animal services there because we had one individual who related as many as 25 cat over the years problems plague the lot most recently. >> a large fire threatened a nearby treatment plant, shutting down a section of 5.80. >> and left one person dead. >> this was a danger that was unprecedented in terms of not just the size of the encampment, that the things we act that could have placed a lot of individuals in heart. >> mayor sheng tao said about the closure, quote, safety and securing dignified shelter for every resident. we're our primary goals in this closure, unquote. simmons says that the property is slated to become an affordable housing project with 170 units for up to 500 residents. she says clearing the encampment. it's just one step in working towards helping others in oakland. >> we know we have much more work to do. there's so much more homelessness throughout

the district as well as throughout the city of oakland. and we now have an incredible tempted to continue that work to be able to bring closure to the needs of those that are on the street in terms of closures to encampments as recess stasio kron. 4 news. >> san francisco police are investigating a shooting at the van ness muni station. it happened friday afternoon on market street not far from civic center and city hall. this is video you're looking at now of the scene from the citizen app. police say 30 year-old man was shot. he is expected to survive. san francisco police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 15 year-old boy. they say it happened on any and scott streets near old saint patrick's church thursday night. officers say the victim suffered from a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital. he later died of his injuries. you know, when a person is recovering in the hospital after being hit by a car during a chase, it happened thursday night on 23rd avenue and 11th street near union point park. police say homeland security was chasing a driver who ran a red light

during the chase. the suspect hit another car and a pedestrian. police say the suspect then ran off but was quickly tracked down and arrested. officers found an illegally modified gun nearby. the driver is okay. but the pedestrian was taken to the hospital. plastic now covers a broken window at the walgreens on market street in san francisco. this is where banco brown, a transgender man was shot and killed by a private security guard last week. investigators say the guard believe brown was shoplifting and that brown threatened him. the guard says he shot brown in self-defense. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins this week said she is not bringing charges against the guard after reviewing the evidence. on thursday, we learned prominent bay area civil rights attorney john burris is now getting involved in the case. his team says they're asking the da's office for surveillance footage of the incident, which jenkins has said she is not releasing to the public. coming up on the kron 4 morning news, the investigation into pepper spray attacks on homeless

their magic given to the afternoon for this clear on out, it looks like a warm prove sky do also doing that to here's the east bay shoreline. we actually now see it through some of this fog and some light drizzle working its magic. there it is all in motion. you'll notice the pattern again improving by the time we get to the afternoon hours, at least for today and sunday looks pretty good, too. and that front should be pretty much sunny from beginning to end futurecast for here's the clearing job into the afternoon evening. we actually get a new parcel of some cloud cover temporarily early sunday morning and then looks pretty good into sunday afternoon. now, despite the fact we'll see a lot more sun tomorrow. temperatures still going to be on the modest side that we're not going to do too well on that temperature department. look what happens upstream on your monday morning. yeah. for the morning commute might have some showers working a little bit in here on early monday morning. but after that will go into somewhat of a clearing pattern there, your onshore winds are actually southerly right now. in kind of a mild phase. this flips to more onshore with those winds. well, in the teens, even some

20's working here, it looks like all day today, tomorrow, even into monday morning as well. so here's the game plan with half moon bay behind us. a lot of cloud cover along the coastal areas for today. today we have showers with some plate lay clearing. it will start in the northwest, moved to the southeast. those temperatures up moving much at all. 50's of the coast, 60's bay and also inland, which will be the case tomorrow. despite the fact we have just early clouds in basically mostly sunny in the afternoon. do have that chilly winds. so definitely need the sweater and jacket along the coast today. tomorrow. next week, some scattered clouds early in the week. we did talk about some of those showers maybe monday morning. after that, we're pretty much going into the clear-cut sun, sunny, by midweek. and we might pop 80 or so come thursday, but definitely by friday. we'll see a lot more of that today. we're at 59 for high san francisco. open will come in at 61. 64 san jose. and just because the timing of all of this, the rain will be around as a scattered shower event

hill since the february recess hospitalized with the case of shingles. cal state east bay political science professor elizabeth bergman says the senator's nearly 2 month absence is a little alarming. it's concerning because she represents 39 million people. we are effectively down representative in congress, largest state in the union. so it's troubling. the professor points to key votes feinstein is needed for, including advancing judicial nominees, some of which have been delayed or stuck in committee. >> feinstein's absences triggered several democrats, including south bay congressman roe to call for her resignation. >> the senator on thursday released a statement trying to calm concerns saying the senate continues to swiftly confirm highly qualified individuals to the federal judiciary, including 7 more judicial nominees who were confirmed this week. there's been no slowdown for her to try to portray it >> kind of a non factor i

>> in the south bay, san jose mayor matt mahan says he's supporting a bill that he says addresses how the state deals with mental illness. he says it would also help address homelessness in california sb 43 would update the definition of gravely disabled to provide easier access to resources for people with severe mental illnesses or substance abuse issues. i spoke with the mayor on friday about how this bill could ultimately help save lives.

>> by not compelling people to come in and get treatment for even 30, 60, 90 days, maybe 180 days, a reasonable period of time. our jails have become our default, mental health hospitals. and so that's really what this bill is about. it's about creating an alternative to the streets in jail in creating inpatient places where people can go to get real treatment for serious behavioral health issues. and it absolutely will help address our homelessness crisis. >> according to the city's most recent homeless in census survey, there are nearly 7,000 homeless residents in san jose. officials in sonoma county say nearly 36% of businesses failed price accuracy inspections and warn of possible overcharges. the department that oversees price, accuracy inspection say they saw a 10% increase in inaccuracy. is this year. the county is asking residents to verify charges on their retail receipts and reminding businesses it is illegal to charge a price higher than what is posted or advertised.

of variety with temperatures. that's going to be the case for highs today. even tomorrow given kind of our climate situation until later this week. that will start to see some better decoupling happening. the rain in the game. what's going on for the giants? well, versus the brewers game. time for 15 temps about 55 or so. and we have that early shower from the vantage point. the game, which is starting pretty late there for 15. so maybe some sun poking out here for us a little bit. but chilly because you through the west southwest wind at 15 with all of that. breaking today down for you, cloudy skies for the early part of the day and then the sun pokes out a bit much better sun. it looks like up in the northwestern quadrant of the bay area. again with the clouds departing to the south. later, we'll take a look at, by the way, that longer range forecast for including the 4 zone. 2, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> a former san francisco fire commissioner is now under investigation for a string of pepper spray attacks. san francisco police commissioners are asking the police chief why the public wasn't made aware of those attacks. proud

boys has it made. you has that story and we do warn you this next video may be hard to watch. >> do you know if any of those in attacks on unhoused individuals, wherever including any of your reports, was the supervisor of the district in which this crime spree was happening against homeless people where they made aware there are 8 police reports that the district attorney turned over to the defense in that case as brady material. is that right? >> here the services go. police commission meeting chief bill scott facing questions about a bear spray attacks on and house people dating back to november 2020 was chief scott pays information report it that the suspect description is the same in each case is not accurate. there were. >> a pretty wide range of descriptions of this person in terms of the size of the person, the way to the person. so i would not say that's accurate. according to san francisco police

investigators, the suspect is described predominantly as male one incident. the suspect reported to be female races, white or hispanic between 30 to 50 years of age, weighing between 160, up to 300 pow nother issue related to this case is that there's been some commentary asking kind of why didn't we the public know about this? best brand tax came to light during a recent criminal proceeding at the hall of justice. in the case of the people versus garret doty. >> homeless person accused of assaulting former sf fire commissioner don harmon, police commissioner max carter over stone has concerns about the public just now learning about this. i think the you know, the public >> could have been useful potentially and helping to find the suspect it's certainly something that. is a public interest and that i wish that the commission had known about earlier. >> the defendant, garret doty claims that this was a case of self-defense alleging that carmen johnny attacked him

with bear spray on april. 5th chief bill scott now confirms that carmen johnny is under investigation. we have to investigate number one. it's it's been brought up by. the defense attorney that this could be. >> a person involved could be the victim in the case that we're talking about. however, the former fire commissioner is involved. is yet to be proved. you know, i think that's a great if if this person is not responsible for then that the than that that the suspect did commit. the other one still at large. and san francisco haaziq kron. 4 news. >> happening today, the california african american reparations task force is meeting in oakland. they could vote on the list of proposals to compensate black californians before that proposal heads to state lawmakers. the task force is 500 page draft includes a detailed list of what they call racist policies. black californians faced. those include over-policing housing discrimination and unequal access to health care. they

original alignment of this ramp was closed nearly 20 years ago to accommodate work on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the new off ramp is located on the far right lane just past the tunnel in the eastbound direction. on the lower deck of the bay bridge. meantime, the existing off-ramp located on the far left lane will remain open for several weeks. well, drivers adjust to the changes. officials say the new off ramp design improve safe access by creating a separation from traffic, merging onto the bridge, allowing more space for larger vehicles. that's one other big story we're following. the suspect connected to a series of stabbings near uc davis has pleaded not guilty. carlos dominguez was ties to the bay area, attended uc davis and laney college. he appeared in court yesterday. the man accused of stabbing 2 people to death, including a fellow student, also attacking a 3rd victim who is now recovering. investigators found a large knife in his possession. yolo county prosecutors say he is eligible for life in prison without the possibility of

parole. the oakland a's announcers when piper is apologizing for apparently saying the n word during a pre-game show, it appears kiper meant to say the name of a museum in kansas city. he visited, which is leagues, baseball museum kiper issued an apology during yesterday's game. >> just want to a bit earlier in the show. said something didn't come out quite the way. i wanted it to. want to apologize if if that sounded different, then. i meant it. to be said. said wanted to apologize for that. >> the a's tweeted a response saying, quote, the language used by glenn kiper during today's pre-game broadcast is unacceptable. the oakland a's do not condone such language. we are working to address the situation. happening today. san mateo county law enforcement agencies hold a gun buyback event. it will be in south san francisco at the

showers still in that forecast. a lot of drizzles. what a lot of people are getting and that's what you saw. the shot of the golden gate. of course, that. >> dark cloudiness as well. a nice little collection of some scattered showers here. but elsewhere across the bay, you don't necessarily see it. but again, some of that drizzle working its magic and that will be the case through a good chunk of the day today until we get to late afternoon. this is san jose state. just seeing what's going on down to the south bay. overcast is again, the rule of thumb rain showers expected in your future, too. looking up to tahoe. they're actually looking at snow showers today. tomorrow, mostly sunny and 48 pretty good on monday. then tuesday, it looks like some showers returning. yes, showers, upper 40's for high temperatures are winds. they're coming in from the south. they have been from overnight. they shift basically on shore and a good stiff wind that looks like it hold for almost about 48 hours in the teens and even lower 20's. and i so climate control for the switch back southerly longer range forecast models make note here of monday morning, it looks like we might have a little bit more

>> back here in the bay area, thousands of teachers in oakland continue their strike after failed contract negotiations. the district is offering to give teachers a 22% pay raise. and a $5,000 bonus. but the teachers union says this is not just about the money. >> our students are doing the best that they can with what to do with the resources that we have. but we're clear that it's just not enough. i would say the biggest thing with his class sizes, more individualized each students also nurses at every site is so important. >> the union says a tentative agreement might be reached but only at the distrimes up with more offers. and you can follow the lateelopments on the strike both on air and online here at kron 4an the qr qr code on your screen, you'll be directed to our coverage of the negotiations between the school district and its teachers. oakland city leaders say the wood street encampment is now cleared and ready to become a space for

affordable homes. kron four's stasio has more on that. >> more than 700 tons of trash. this is a close-up look at the effort to clear the wood street encampment in oakland. >> for the past 3 weeks, a crew of city employees along with community support services, work to remove years of debris and relocate those who call this lot home. and we were able to successfully move 57 people into program also closing that encampment. but honda simmons's oakland's assistant city administrator and acting homeless administrator. >> she says the city was able to place 80% of residents into either the wood street cabin program. >> or into safe rv parking. >> the needs of the community were were pretty d. and we recognize that this was a very difficult process for them as well as for the city in terms of being able to close the encampment. so we are able to bring in clinicians from alameda county, lifelong health services. we were able

to also have ms in terms of our paramedics on standby for any health emergencies that we thought the community needed some support. we also had animal services there because we had one individual who related as many as 25 cat over the years problems plague the lot most recently. >> a large fire threatened a nearby treatment plant, shutting down a section of 5.80. >> and left one person dead. >> this was a danger that was unprecedented in terms of not just the size of the encampment, that the things we act that could have placed a lot of individuals in heart. >> mayor sheng tao said about the closure, quote, safety and securin% dignified shelter for every resident. we're our primary goals in this closure, unquote. simmons says that the property is slated to become an affordable housing project with 170 units for up to 500 residents. she says clearing the encampment. it's just one step in working towards

helping others in oakland. >> we know we have much more work to do. there's so much more homelessness throughout the district as well as throughout the city of oakland. and we now have an incredible tempted to continue that work to be able to bring closure to the needs of those that are on the street in terms of closures to encampments as recess stasio kron. 4 news. >> san francisco police are investigating a shooting at the van ness muni station. it happened friday afternoon on market street, not far from civic center and city hall. this is video of the scene from the citizen app. police say a 30 year-old man was shot. he is expected to survive. and in oakland, a person is for pope recovering in the hospital after being hit by a car during a chase. it happened thursday night on 23rd avenue and 11th street near union park point park. police say homeland security was chasing a driver who ran a red light. during that chase. the suspect hit another car and a pedestrian. police say the suspect then ran off but was quickly tracked down and arrested. officers found an illegally modified gun nearby.

>> all right. welcome back. taking a live look now at the transamerica building around the transamerica. >> this is not the president. this is the court, our coit tower there. it is one at the top of it is a little that cut off. let's go our live look at that there. and it's looking a little bit chilly out there. we see a little bit of a breeze pushing to that tree pushing through that tree there day. yeah, that's the thing. and so at both locations that basically overcast as we want to say for san francisco. yeah. >> they'll though that's a bit of an improvement or some rain showers going on the peninsula. >> and off to the east bay little cluster of some showers there elsewhere. it's kind of a drizzle or mist and that kind of business it should improve. those we get into the afternoon hours and start to see some sun do its magic a little bit here. here's a shot of the east bay some of that fog looks like it was trying to clear now trying to spray back just a bit. but overcast drives the point home. here's the collection of rain. looks like is more of a commitment towards in the central valley and up to up towards tahoe. but again, across the bay

deal. although sky conditions will be markedly improved. so we got a lot of sunshine going there next week. monday's kabul, bump in the road might have some leftover clouds tuesday. but after that, the gradual warm up and we're talking 80's already as early as perhaps thursday and some slick spots. but friday for most of the inland locations. so it's kind of a mixed bag today. again, we got those showers and drizzle going on early. the sky conditions start to improve behind some blue skies in here. so san francisco, you've got showers with afternoon clearing oakland, 61 with morning showers afternoon clearing into the south bay. that clearing probably won't be until this evening highs today mid 60's over most of the real estate, although a little cooler for the peninsula. 55 half moon bay mid-sixties up there to the north bay next couple of days. it's pretty much of a 60 story with the sky conditions improving again for tomorrow in the afternoon. we'll take a look at 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit. stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> senator dianne feinstein says she plans to return to the senate, but he's not saying when the 89 year-old

senator has not been at work shingles diagnosis in late february. perhaps has a lot of people upset, including some fellow democrats and now the new york times editorial board is even calling for her to resign. kron four's dan thorn has more. >> but when senator feinstein says in her return to the senate, the 89 year-old hasn't been back to capitol hill since the february recess hospitalized with the case of shingles. cal state east bay political science professor elizabeth bergman says the senator's nearly 2 month absence is a little alarming. it's concerning because she represents 39 million people. we are effectively down representative in congress, largest state in the union. so it's troubling. the professor points to key votes feinstein is needed for, including advancing judicial nominees, some of which have been delayed or stuck in committee. >> feinstein's absences triggered several democrats,

>> and the south bay, san jose mayor mate matt mahan is supporting a bill that he says addresses how the state deals with mental illness. he also has it would hold also help address homelessness in california senate bill 43 would update the definition of gravely disabled to provide easier access to resources for people with severe mental illnesses or substance abuse issues. i spoke with the mayor on friday about how this bill would ultimately save lives. >> by not compelling people to come in and get treatment for
