>> she was here the whole time to leave. imperatives. the camera shot change. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. we're starting again with the iconic fog golden gate bridge. there you have it. and the pattern is going to be somewhat reminiscent as it was yesterday or last week on mother's day on sunday. so therefore, we have the winds are going to have this fog hanging around a little bit here. and that's all going to act as the temperatures to preston, particularly for areas around the immediate bay. getting back to that fog. it looks like this. yeah, clears up as we approach around the noon hour. we have some leftover fog clouds a little bit around. the bay are some portions of the bay san francisco, southern marine along the coast. that kind of routine that's going to be hard to clear for today. that's today. not so much tomorrow. we're going prove a little bit out tomorrow, by the way, and that front. but that's going to be today's story. here it is. tomorrow morning, it spills into the you can see the central valley quite a bit there. and then by the noon hour, it clears up and this is much better clearing even by 1 o'clock for coastal areas and along the east bay shoreline as well. get better clearing tomorrow. here are the wind's current

snapshot into the teens, even getting some 20's. you can see up there to solano county temperature. check for you. mid-fifties don't expect a lot of movement with this is most readings will be in the 60's and just barely getting to the 70's for those inland valleys. here's a look at the contrast we had a couple degrees were trailing around the east bay's. you will notice the forecast today for the inland spots clearing out as we approach around noon, 67 by 2 o'clock. again, those 70's a little loose of today. they'll be back by tomorrow. we'll have more on your weekend forecast. coming up in just a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you so much for that. now, a big story we're following. police shot and killed an armed robbery suspect in san francisco. >> police responded to reprrts of a man breaking into a home in the area of bosworth and marcia lee street. that's about half a mile from the glen park, bart station. police say they tried to negotiate with the man for nearly 3 and a half hours right now. it is not clear exactly what caused police to open fire. the man taken to a hospital was taken to a hospital, rather where he died of his injuries. one neighbor

describes what she saw. >> do the window and noticed on 7. police cars down the street the end of the block and he's here. instead, 2 neighbors, it was someone who had a gun every every few minutes. it seem like i don't know if it was every 5, every what they were asking the person by name to come out of the house with their hands up and surrender. >> multiple agencies, including the san francisco da's office are investigating the incident. another big story we're following in the east bay, the racist text message scandal involving at least 45 antioch police officers continues to stir strong emotions. kron four's philippe djegal reports from a community rally in martinez. >> families took to the martinez streets friday marching to the contra costa county courthouse at rice's

out here. they are demanding allegedly corrupt antioch police officers be held accountable for their involvement in sending and receiving racist text messages imploring that the cops making up as much as 20% of the immediately or we're asking for the kind of transparency. >> we're not getting just a stone's throw away from the contra costa county district attorneys office, civil rights attorney john burris addressed the crowd. he is suing the city of antioch and individual officers and for violating rights of his clients to be terminated and profit in it. >> but certainly it's up also add with you to demand bid turn it off set aside all the conventions development and and and bottom. and you know, cajun mayor, lamar thorpe also attended shortly after sending

jenkins has dropped charges against a san francisco police officer who shot and wounded a man. it happened during a field training in 2019. you're looking now a body cam video of the incident. police documents say officer christopher flores and his field training officer responded to a call in the city's mission district. they say the suspect, jamaica hampton, attacked the training officer flores then shot hampton who was seriously injured and had to have a leg amputated. the da says she dismissed the case because her office could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that flores did not act in reasonable self defense. >> as we look live now at sfo this morning. airport officials say they've just hit a major milestone with more than 70,000 passengers flying out this month alone. just take a look at these are the highest number since the start of the pandemic. kron four's gayle ong reports it has increased considerably has increased the fairfield's

>> san mateo county health officials are urging people to get vaccinated against m-pox. now the cdc says it's concerned there is a substantial risk of m-pox making a comeback this summer after seeing a rise of cases among young people who are either partially or fully vaccinated. kron 4 spoke with ucsf infectious disease specialist doctor peter chin. hong. >> you know 2 shots if you have not them, if you got one, just get the other one number to watch for symptoms of and fox because if you know you have it, you know, we can on what spread by you. isolating. and then number 3 is you know, be as open-minded as possible. don't stigmatize. >> study show the vaccine does not completely prevent infection, but people who got the 2 doses have a much lower risk of getting and spreading

morning. and good morning, everybody. you know, it's like this. my mother's day going on here. we have this fog is going to keep those temperatures down. we couple this with some winds as well. good breeze. i should it's the typical afternoon breeze that kicks off here, but it's going to be much cooler today. and we're expecting for tomorrow and on into early next week. here's a shot of the east bay shoreline from berkeley hills. off to the distance. you would normally see the bay. but in this case, it's all covered up for right now. now, that will probably clear out as we come to around the noon hour or so. but he's going to be some stubborn areas on the board. 61 for most readings in the 50's for right now. a lot of mid 50's covered the east bay. in fact, all the major reporting sites at 54 conveniently 56. meanwhile, 4 san jose back to future cast for here's the we do clear out for much of the bay as we approach around noon. this is pretty optimistic. but got to keep some cloud cover and fog for the golden gate southern are in the coastal areas in san francisco a little bit. maybe some firing up a few showers up there in the mountains tonight. tomorrow morning, we do the same thing again with that fog again,

clearing out. but this go around much quicker in more complete. we'll see some sunshine for everybody and warmer going on less in the way of winds. but a firing up again of those showers in the mountains. we're starting to that summer time pattern a little bit tricky. quick check of those winds on sure they're going to be they pick up, particularly for the golden gate right across the bay to the carquinez strait. and you can see good strong onshore flow well of the business of the 20's tomorrow will not be that active is the high part starts to take over for a couple of days. at least gives us a little bit of it kind of almost early summer. spring here early fog clouds cool 60's for the bay 70's inland. then tomorrow it's early fog. better bay clearing, by the way, warm in london 80's. while we do 70's of the bay will start monday off that way. but then cooling off for the ballot of the week. here as a new system drop south that will drive some winds to look out for next week as well. so 62 san francisco, 64 for oakland popping about 72 for san jose. a little warmer

this popeye's restaurant international boulevard in oakland of word. >> the 2 took part in a rally on thursday to bring light to their plight and others. they say one of their coworkers is just 13 years old. child laborer laws. limon hours. miners can work, including preventing them from being on the clock past 10 on school nights. both say that they were ordered to do so often. sometimes i wouldn't even go to school. >> because i would be too tired. but then like later on that they had to go to started. i started feeling some classes. i started getting behind in some because i wouldn't show up or out to be too tired to even go to school. both young women say that they started working at the popeye's this winter because they need to help their families and it was within walking distance. >> i >> the hope and my parents, they from those sometimes kron 4 reached out to the california labor commissioner's office as well as the department of industrial relations who gave us a statement, quote.

>> complaints to cal osha are confidential. cal osha and the department of industrial relations take complaints of child laborer very seriously. we can confirm cal osha is investigating this work site if safety and health violations are found. cal osha can issue citations. popeye sent us this statement that reads, quote, based on the allegations made this morning by team members at a restaurant owned by one of her franchises. we have immediately shut down his restaurant and have started a swift investigation. we will not tolerate any violation of employment laws and if any of these allegations prove true, we will take action against this franchise. >> they're like corporate guys like the to. closer story make sure that they're like following the rules to teens say they want to get back to work, but only if conditions change. terry says stasio

kron. 4 news. >> a popular road to the summit of mount diablo is closed for the summer from now until mid september northgate road will be closed to all traffic. state parks say they need to repair a section of the roadway damage during this past. winter storms. the repair work is happening for miles up from up the mountain from the north gate entrance. those who did not get the memo were forced to turn back around on friday. >> this is one of my favorite ride. it's a little sad, but we like people safe. so it's probably all for the best. >> the road could reopen sooner depending on how repair work goes this summer, visitors can still access the mountain and the summit using the southgate road. may marks mental health awareness month and the national alliance on mental illness estimates that one in 5 americans live with a mental health condition. but only 36% of people get help. i spoke with doctor jenny weighing a clinical psychologist and founder of the popular agents for mental health online community on ways people can offer support

>> a weekly farmers market is back in santa clara county. the market hosted by kaiser permanente is one of more than 55 markets nationwide. providing produce to community members and kaiser workers. it was forced to shut down during the pandemic nurses and doctors gathered for a special event friday to share tips on how to shop healthy. >> i really think it helps to promote healthy, eating healthy lifestyle. and if you look around and see some of the great fruits and vegetables and foods that we have here, it really does help to promote that kind of healthy living.

>> kaiser suggest making a shopping list for every fruit and vegetable in season you can beat the long lines at the market by getting there early and even come a few minutes before closing time, as many vendors offer discounts towards the end of the day. the san mateo county democratic party hosts a farmworker summit in half moon bay today. the county's farmworker affairs committee will discuss issues like access to clean water, housing and health care for farmworkers. this all coming after that mass shooting in january that largely impacted the farming community. today's event is open to the public. it will be held at the boys and girls club of the coast side event centered on kelly avenue. it starts at 01:00pm and ends at 03:00pm. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, a san francisco restaurant slammed for hosting an event with anti-trans speakers. >> the reaction from community members and how the business is responding.

>> good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. thank you so much for joining us. let's start off this half hour for the look at the forecast, dave, it's feeling pretty chilly out there this morning. >> you almost want to get some gloves on chilly side there. i for being a in a like this. a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and the clouds are being found also in the south bay, too. so it's not just around the immediate bay. we have these fog clouds. you can see him in the south bay, too. we'll get some better clearing, however, as we approach around the noon

hour there, then we're going to see elsewhere still got those problem areas around the bay. the fog will linger. a bit of the fog clouds, if you will we will notice a bit of an uptick going on today. you couple this with the clouds and some spots going to be a bit on the chilly side, particularly along the coast. there you have the numbers in the teens and some single digits for the giants game today versus the marlins game. time 105, temps at about 60 lake clearing chile and those winds getting up to about 20 miles per hour. 61 for any act. a lot of 50's in the east bay. almost all. 54 fremont comes in at 55. do it. 56 for san jose and 52. meanwhile for san francisco, back to this fog it does try to clear out for most of the bay. still some leftover fog clouds. they come back tonight and tomorrow, some much better clearing coupled with the fact we won't have as much the way of winds either. here's the clearing out pattern. it looks like for the least the inland spots, a chilly 69 by 2 o'clock, however, will see a temperature bump expected tomorrow to a look at that

little bump in the road coming up in just a bit. also your 4 zone forecast. stefanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> it's been one week since the expiration of title. 42 that pandemic era border policy that allowed authorities to turn away migrants at the u.s. mexico border. now one south bay school is expecting a surge of migrant children in its classrooms as early as this summer kron four's. justin campbell spoke with school officials. >> we're really concerned about a tree survey getting is the executive director of escuela popular the san jose charter school founded by her mother in 1986, to serve immigrant families that we are designed to meet the specific needs. the school teaches english to help integrate migrants into american culture. parents and students can come to school together and learn as one on average. the school gets 1000 students each day, but starting as early as this summer, they're expecting to teach 300 more

students. >> each day it's very doable for us. again, the strain has been being able to continue to keep the teachers that we have re getting says the biggest challenge will be just finding someone. >> to teach them right now with the teacher shortage. >> and the passage of ab 15, 0, 5, it's made it more and more difficult to keep talented teachers in the classroom. says they need certain teachers due to the need of their students and lots of their teachers were immigrants themselves were bilingual. >> but the passage of ab 15, 0, 5, require charter school teachers to have credentials have been working with this as what we call instructors and working towards a credential. >> so we're allowed to do that. be 15, 0, 5, remove that opportunity. reagan teen is hoping legislators address ab 15 0, 5, and the teacher shortage problem so they can deal with the influx in migrants. >> reporting in san jose, justin campbell kron. 4 news.

>> police are working to identify a man's body found in a santa rosa roadway. police say a resident spotted the body late thursday night on west deal. london royal oak place. no word yet on the victim's identity or cause of death. anyone with information is asked to please call santa rosa police. happening now, part of highway 37 is closed. >> this is just east of highway one. 21, the closure started around 3 this morning and will last until 11 tomorrow morning. crews are repairing a railroad crossing on the highway. and lawmakers got a chance to learn how first responders fight dangerous wildfires elected officials got firsthand experience by participating in various fire, medical and special operation drills and technical exercises. >> kron 3, one of those dark hallways. you've got a 30 pound respirator on your back. you're wearing all this equipment to get your helmet on up, carrying up to 50 pounds of gear. and that's before you start dragging that fully loaded a fire hose with you. so the amount of exertion

it takes to get into a fire. just all the stuff on your back is really monumental. and we want the elected officials understand the kind of effort that our firefighters put in every day. >> participants even went inside of a burning trailer and learn how to use heavy equipment. a san jose san francisco man is charged with attempted murder for allegedly firing a gun at a mail carrier. prosecutors say the suspect vo when chase the mail carrier down the street and was pepper sprayed by the carrier when he's accused of firing a gun until he ran out of bullets. one faces charges, including attempted murder of a federal employee. he faces up to 20 years in prison. a san francisco restaurant faces backlash after hosting a fundraiser but turned out to be an anti trans event. kron four's rob nesbitt has reaction from community members and lawmakers. >> the meeting put on by the san francisco republican party was not largely attended. it almost went unnoticed until a reporter with the san francisco chronicle wrote

about what they witnessed. a chronicle reporter dressed in cognito when they came to american bites last week attending an event hosted by the san francisco republican party that they say turned into an anti-trans event. senator scott wiener read about the event that advocated against trans youth and adults having access to gender-affirming care. they have every right to advocate for that. >> and we have every right to shine a light on a thing called out for what it is. it read. >> the event allegedly play tiktok videos of young trans people that got negative reactions from attendees. one person using the term groomer to describe what they were watching. a word that gets commented often on senator wiener, social media posts. what so harmful about is a formalized hatred. american bytes has apologized for allowing the event to take place at the restaurant saying, quote, >> as a company, we do not endorse any of the talking points addressed. we take full accountability for caring this event without knowing its true intentions. in hindsight, had we known the true nature of this event, we would have never allowed it to take place. chair of the san

francisco democratic party, honey mahogany. >> says as a trans woman, she's been trolled online many times by some of the speakers who attended the event saying they have no interest in coming together to solve real issues. this is a highly toxic for for the trans community and the lgbt community and especially for trans lgbtq youth. we've reached out to the san francisco republican party for comment about the event but not heard back. >> reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> vice president kamala harris stopped in los angeles on friday to promote ways the white house is improving. maternal health. the vp toured a nonprofit foundation called baby to baby which provides baby supplies to low-income mothers. harris announced a new partnership between the nonprofit and the federal government that aims to get essential goods and maternal health items to new moms. harris is expected to be in the bay area next week. a space and open that invited children to learn play and use their imaginations is closing for good. the bay area children's theater held their

>> automakers, kia and hyundai must pay 200 million dollars to settle a class action lawsuit claiming many of their cars are too easy to steal the money covers up to 9 million car owners whose vehicles are suvs have been stolen. and the cars in question are 2015 to 2019 hyundai santa fe's in tucson's as well as kia fortes and sportage is experts say the push button ignition vehicles are about twice as likely to be stolen compared to other vehicles. the same age. berkeley mayor jesse enter dean issued a statement in response to this news saying in part brookly police have spent significant resources responding to and investigating a surge in thefts of kia and hyundai

vehicles. berkeley taxpayers are the ones footing the bill. target is recalling nearly 5 million candles because the jars can break. well, the candles are burning. the company says the threshold brand of candles were sold nationwide from august 2019 through march 2023, the consumer products safety commission says target got nearly 140 reports of the doors cracking and breaking leaving at least 6 people with cuts or burns. anyone who bought the candle should stop using them and return them to target for a full refund. >> all right. a bit on the cool side. it looks like for today but will be getting some 70's inland warming up a little bit more. so tomorrow might even pop 80 of the santa rosa, though, today got a look at that weekend forecast a plus your 4 zone to the kron 4 plus your 4 zone to the kron 4 morning.

tower and the coastal areas as well. so this is somewhat reminiscent to what we saw last sunday and then tomorrow is going to be a little closer to what saturday was, although not as hot but you get the general program about how it will look up to tahoe, would you want to make a verbal note here? you might see a stray shower tomorrow. still, we'll see. the flare up in. the models are telling during the afternoon hours a little bit there. but temperature check, not bad the next couple of days. lower 70's starts to change by tuesday and a little cooler for the remainder of the week is what we're going to see. also in the home front, too temperature check. we've been talking about this mid 50's over most of the bay. in fact, 52 for a half moon bay matching that for san francisco and even santa rosa. nice climb going on today, though, as we get to around 80 for a high 61 for antioch. and 52, by the way, for so for today, we see the little pop and winds happen in the afternoon and the evening they're going to be most apparent around the carquinez strait, but that we felt elsewhere in the good, strong, solid onshore winds will be with the ride well in the

teens and even some lower 20's. now don't have the map here for tomorrow. but the general program is it will be less active. then we're seeing for today for those winds. so their go a little warmer than we have a little warmer spell going on today. tomorrow, even as late as tuesday. but this front, it's pretty dry. but as it comes across will get some winds working again. those onshore winds by tuesday help bring down those temperatures in for the remainder of the week while dry, it will be a bit on the cooler side. we're going back to more like a springtime pattern exiting kind of the summer. feel 4 zone forecast for you this saturday. modest temperatures as we go. 62 for san francisco to the coast. some upper 50's along with the ride there. 64 for burlingame to a foster city. 66 69, meanwhile, for palo alto in the south bay, lower 70's it morgan hill getting up to about 77 east bay shoreline, upper to middle 60's tri valley. we've got some 70's working here like livermore at 74, 70 for danville, 71 walnut creek and

look at san jose state. >> i'm having some issues as well. but above you will notice. look at the start breakouts. we're clearing up some of those fog clouds again turning from this vantage point. >> to mostly sunny, not unexpected with an inland location, but around the immediate bay. as you saw, the fog is a bit of an issue because remember the air right here at the surface, it's cold. it's more dense it every year. the air right above. it's drier, but also much warmer. so it has buoyant. so the only thing was the open seats away at the fog as a morning start to progress. we've got the middle 50's covering a good section. the mid bay. 67 for antioch right now. 54 going on for santa rosa. that's quite interesting. because highs today projected to be about 80 futurecast for takes care of the fog for the most part. but we do have that continuing onshore wind giving us fresh marine layer moisture. so the fog may be hard to clear in spots because of the scenario just outlined. maybe a few little rain showers in just a bit, particularly with daytime heating fog comes back again. greets us tomorrow morning.

celebrating and honoring as our grand marshal me get my dean us. we just recently passed away and he had he led the parade with his to dance group with ceremony and dance. and this year we're honoring him and his family as grand marshal of we can't wait and do it is a celebration. so important to the community. walk us through that. we celebrate 45 years of music and movement. and when we say movement were not only referring to the dance aspect, we're talking about the movements that have shaped and carnival has shaped in the last 45 years where product of the civil rights movement, the lgbtqi movement, farm workers movement, black lives matter movement. we've been present for those many years. and with it, we bring together our cultures, our music and our food to bring a positive message of change and justice. wonderful and. what are you looking forward to the most with the celebration, which of people absolutely not. ms over

the 2 days? >> well, they definitely cannot miss our headliners. okay. so that's on. both of them are on saturday. may 27th. >> separate stages. same time. so come on over. we have wonderful food vendors merchandise and for the very first time the state champ at carnival san francisco skate jam. what is we will have a skateboard companies, local shots and brands and set up the space for folks to skateboard. so we're talking about to lux lhc's atlas. skateboard adidas are going to be president. and also giving free merchandise to the community for free. wow. that sounds incredible. >> and in our last minute here, tell us a bit about the performers that you brought with you cause. they're also been going to be performing at carnival. and the beauty of carnival on in san francisco is that we represent 23, different countries from latin america and the caribbean. so we have a plethora of cultures and music. and so today we're having a group not that that

friday to promote ways the white house is improving. maternal health. >> the vp toured a baby non-profit organization called baby the baby which provide supplies to low-income mothers. harris announced a new partnership between the nonprofit and the federal government that aims to get essential goods and maternal health items to new moms. harris is expected to be in the bay area next week. marks mental health awareness month. the national alliance on mental illness estimates that one in 5 americans live with a mental health condition. but only 36% of people get help. i spoke with doctor jenny weighing a clinical psychologist and founder of the popular asians for mental health online community on ways people can offer support to one another. >> if you have a loved one who is in need of mental health support being with n and just saying, hey, are you open to even calling a few therapist together? are you open to reaching out to your primary care physician and just sharing what's going on?
