>> this morning on 4 news breaking news. we're following 9 people injured in yet another mass shooting in the bay area. >> this time in san francisco, we're live with the latest on the police investigation. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> thank you for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. it is saturday, june 10th and we'll get right to that breaking news in just a moment. but first, let's check in with dave spahr. dave, what should we know? >> all right. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. we're starting things off with considerable cloudiness. this some of it. is the fog clouds going on here. but aloft will see this kind of remain throughout the day today, the mixed bag of sun and clouds you'll see well inland around the bay. these a pesky nuisance clouds will be around through much of the day, although we do see some sunshine poking out there, keeping temperatures down as well. and there's your onshore

breeze while we're at it. but look what's going on here. we have the same similar type of pattern we had early little during the week here with this flow pattern coming up from the south. this is mid-level moisture. it's going to keep tahoe. very busy this weekend early next week. however, for us, we do stand that slight chance of seeing a shower or a thunder shower popping up very isolated in nature. there's your onshore winds, single digits for the most part, our temperature check mid to upper 50's. 58 going on for any and the breakdown today has quite a bit of clouds. this is a little bit of the pessimistic side because i think we'll see the skies open a little bit for those inland valleys. however, around the bay, it will be kind of chilly and considerable cloud. going to get more into this coming up in just a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> back to that breaking news we're following for you this morning. another mass shooting in the bay area. this one in san francisco's mission district. 9 people are recovering from their injuries. kron four's. tiffany justice is live for us at a neighborhood police station. tiffany, what's the latest?

>> right. so we have confirmed 9 people were shot in the mission. district police still looking for the suspect or suspects involved. we want to show you exactly where this happened with a map. police say at the corner of 24th street and treat avenue around 9 o'clock last night, they say dispatch received a report of a shooting with multiple people shot and taken to a local hospital. let's show you some video from the scene last night as well. one victim was taken into surgery according to a legislative aide to supervisor hillary ronen police say the shooting appears to be targeted and isolated and that there is no known threat to the public. thankfully, all the victims are expected to survive. >> investigation, this is a preliminary. we're taking everything into consideration and that's why we're asking the public for help. if you saw anything, you heard anything. the investigators are considering any anything and everything possible. right now.

oakland, neighborhoods like fruitville chinatown and rock ridge. the mayor told as she was not officially informed of the da's decision but says there should be consequences. >> the people are traumatized by incidents. my son was trying times my home was burglarized and he was home. so i understand the victim's side of very and so there has to be balanced approach. you know, i'm pretty sure was reason to us what she decided to do. >> but i am just going to say, you know, i'm very proud of opd. and then work to ensure that our communities. >> the da's office says the case remains under investigation. a san francisco ice cream shop becomes the latest small business to fall victim to a break in kron four's. dan thorn spoke with the business owner and brings us video of what happened. >> around 03:30am, in the morning on june 3rd, a pair of thieves are seen moving

around. what's the scoop in san francisco's bayview neighborhood. they snag a register power tools and caused damage in the first of 2 burglaries that morning just after the end and a roll coaster emotions. >> the whole thing and the biggest thing was just why song do anthony will mac. the shop's owner says that was only the beginning of his problems. hours after the first break. and another person is seen snooping around in cabinets. >> and then using their hands to scoop ice cream out of the containers in total around 15 to $20,000 in damages. definitely tough. keeping those negative thoughts on the mind when things happen like this. >> but i can't i know to those people that do. that's my shop. they don't represent my community. womack was able to open his brick and mortar location on 3rd street last november. >> with help from san francisco's dream keeper initiative, mayor london breed showcase the success story on social media earlier this

ministries church of god in christ in east oakland. this is the second time the event has happened last year. polici say they collected more than 130 guns. >> happening right now at 3 mile stretch of i-680, is closed for road repairs. a portion of the southbound lanes from sunol boulevard. tuchman road are shut down during the closure. all northbound lanes remain open. >> repair work is scheduled to be done early monday morning. the search is underway for a sanford biology professor who did not show up for his court hearing. the national park service's says 44 year-old hunter fraser was reported missing wednesday in olympic national park in washington state. his family says they last heard from him in. >> frazier was arrested last july for domestic violence. he has been at a hearing scheduled friday in santa

clara county. expect to pay more for ida and bart next year. the board of directors just approved a two-year budget that would raise the fares by a total 11%. they're also projecting and 93 million dollar deficit kron four's theresa explains. >> bart fares are going up starting in january. twenty-twenty for fares will go up bart 5 and a half percent followed by another similar rate hike in 2025. >> and unheard of it. >> tragic and i'm going to have to pay more. the convenience of being able to commute into the city every day is something kind of depend on the hike is projected to raise 26 million dollars. >> and all part of a two-year multibillion-dollar deficit just passed by the board on thursday. yet, despite the increasing fair and parking fees to transit system is still in trouble. >> i i asked for staff

>> welcome back to kron. 4 morning news. good morning, everybody. and look at the shot here. that's the typical fog. we talk about aloft. you see kind of a hazy sky conditions that's with the best that we can kind of hope for. but that lower level cloud cover. that's a different type of moisture. that's that, you know, marine layer that comes in that we're very used to and it is much more stable. it's the air above it little bit more unstable. and that's of kind of reminiscent of the monsoon. it's more subtropical moisture. all right. here's what we're talking about right now. what's going on here if just go and take a look at what we've got in the east bay

shoreline. you know what it is? it's more of that. it's buried in the fog. as you can see, that's the east bay shoreline right now. as far as the temperatures were mid-fifties over most of the board. 58 off the antioch, santa rosa. 54 57 meanwhile for san jose and again, what we have in our backyard right now. that's that lower dense moisture cold. it's somewhat stable aloft is what we're more concerned about. and that's what we see here on the satellite picture, the eu at some heating to this end, it becomes more excited. we're going to see a lot of that in tahoe later today. handing it back over to the future cast for we kind of clear out a little bit. but look what happens up in tahoe, the firing up with those showers and thunder showers also around our local hills. you might have a little pocket of a shower and that's the best place probably to see that afternoon evening. thundershower going on. this is what happens overnight. we get back to the fog again. it's actually is stabilizing condition for a local weather and clearing out tomorrow is going to be a little slower. but again, that chance of an isolated thunder showers still

possibly there. again, the higher elevations, this lower level moisture, however, keeps the atmosphere a little bit more stable. you don't have that up there on top again. skies are open to start daytime heating and afternoon showers and thunder showers. it's almost like a florida forecast, if you will. highs will be pretty impressive out there that we'll see a lot of 60's. can several clouds cool. but this weekend, a slight chance of a thunder shower. we mentioned. meanwhile, for tahoe, mostly sunny, start storm in the afternoon. highs in the 60's. now next week, we start off with monday with considerable cloud cover still on monday. and then by tuesday, wednesday, starting really clear out warming up late in the ball game might repeat performance of touching 90 potentially for today. 62 san francisco, 66 open 73. meanwhile for san jose and the big board got some mid to upper 70's in the far east bay. even santa rosa getting up there to 78, which is pretty impressive. given all this cloud cover will be checking out the 4 zone forecast. we're in a bit and the extended to stephanie. all right, dave, thank you so much. and i'm looking forward

to getting out of allergy season 2. i apologize for that coughing earlier. >> reaction to the indictment of former president donald trump has been swift four's. dan kerman spoke with bay area lawmakers and political and legal analysts. >> if the allegations in the indictment are, in fact, true for president really has limited defenses in this case. legal analysts say the evidence detailed in the 49 page indictment. fox is in the former president. really can't claim. well, i declassified the documents. he can't say, well, i didn't know what other people were doing. they were just mishandling boxes. he really is at the center of this indictment and the senator of the story. he's not bit player in this movie. he is the star and the director. the indictment also suggests what trump was allegedly keeping in those boxes. not just old notes in ledgers but highly sensitive material talking about military capability is a military vulnerabilities.

interest rates of those homes are what make them so much more expensive to own. the high cost of living is not news to bay area residents, but for those deciding between renting or owning a home, redfin says it's a cheaper option to rent here. chief economist at redfin daryl fairweather says that's because of higher mortgage rates and the interest on them having a really large amount of allows compounding to kind accumulated faster than was a small amount so that's why hurts a bit harder in the most high-end markets. the redfin report listed san jose as having the largest homeownership premiums. >> where it's 165% more expensive to buy than to rent. next with san francisco with 139% ownership premium. >> followed by oakland where homes are 99% more expensive to buy than rent. senior economist jeff tucker at zillow. explain with those percentages. look like in dollar amounts when searching zillow in san francisco in the sunset, 4 in the ballpark of $4,4500 a month to rent and

those are homes that would be selling for one and a quarter one and a half million dollars. >> meaning they would carry a mortgage payment of more like $6,000 or more for someone to buy them today. according to redfin, you may save money on renting, but in the long run, rent prices could go up. i talked with real turn, founder of district homes in berkeley bellomo about the perks of buying. she looked over the redfin report and says the numbers are true that there's more to factor you. kids starting school. i knew having a baby. >> you know, are you downsizing? you need to sell so. it's a hard to time the market. there was a silver lining with the redfin report. >> due to rising mortgage rates, home prices are dropping at a faster rate in the bay area than anywhere else in the u.s. reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> coffee is permanently closing its oakland distribution centr. that's after a roof roof collapse in march killed a longtime worker 110 employees at that cetera,

given the option to relocate to the company's new warehouse in tracy at this point, pete says few are than 40% of workers have said, though, do that. the peach roasting plant in alameda will stay open. and so will corporate headquarters in every field. animal rescues across the bay area are starting to see overcrowding at their shelters. staff at humane society. silicon valley are seeing more kittens and puppies. the group's executive director tells us they are looking for a lot of help getting their larger dogs adopted. and there is one way the community can support this. >> actually have about 400 animals in foster homes right now. and creates a lot more capacity for us to be able to go out and help shelters who don't have, you know, any more room front coming in coming out amols so the ones that are at risk of euthanasia that having a foster in your house directly saves the life of another animal. >> humane society, silicon valley does have resources that can help with the foster

you just heard, if do know in any information about the shooting, you're asked to contact francisco police back to you. >> all right. thank you so much, tiffany, for that update. we will plan to check back with you a little bit later. jose police released new details about the crash that killed a 15 year-old boy early wednesday morning. was justin campbell spoke with someone who knew the victim. >> yeah, justin us to write was killed right in front of his home earlier this week. police now telling us the driver behind the wheel, a teenager. she was arrested and they do believe alcohol was at play. you can look at the video. you can see 15 year-old justin. the steer was killed just before 01:00am wednesday night after being hit by an suv right outside of his home on rican at a drive. police believe a steer and the driver had alcohol in their system. they were both at a party before at unknown location. we spoke to one of dearest friends who lives after

apartment complex about her thoughts on what happened and what the crossing area is like where he was hit and killed. >> think it's very what people come in and they don't here. they do area with a cross can be dangerous. sometimes at police are not waiting on lab results to see. >> how much alcohol was in the driver's blood stream. she has been released from custody. >> what friends and family still mourning the loss of justin a steer a we were at memorial at the high school earlier this week. he was very popular from what we've heard from friends around with oakland, high. we'll keep you informed on this investigation for now reporting here in san jose, justin campbell kron. 4 news. >> a local drag queen is teaching people how to save someone from opioid drug overdose. it's part of an ongoing effort by san francisco's entertainment commission. kron four's ella sogomonian reports on that campaign.

>> people using party drugs could unintentionally be exposed to fentanyl. the synthetic opioid has been found in heroin, cocaine pressed pills and methamphetamines. so this pride month, the entertainment commission, san francisco's department of public health and drag queen conchita route all partnered up to make a training video. they're teaching people how to use fentanyl. test strips as well as recognize and reverse an overdose using narcan nasal spray, you want to remove the narcan from its packaging. >> insert the nozzle into the nostrils and press the plunger firmly. >> the department of public health reports fentanyl was involved in nearly 3 quarters of deaths last year. and a small amount could be fatal. steven torres is on the entertainment commission and executive co-chair of the lgbtq cultural district. his work tonight, life for 2 decades and says he has seen the deadly toll. fentanyl has taken on the community.

say at the corner of 24th street in treat avenue around 9 o'clock last night, they say dispatch received a report of a shooting with multiple people shot and taken to local hospitals confirmed by police. 9 people were shot in the mission district last night. police are still looking for the suspect or suspects involved and we do also want to show you some video of that scene. one victim was taken into surgery according to legislative aide, a to her really. police say the shooting appears to be targeted and isolated and does not believed to be any no known threat at this point. thankfully, all the victims are expected to survive. >> investigation, this is a preliminary. we're taking everything into consideration and that's why we're asking the public for help. if you saw anything, you heard anything. the investigators are considering any anything and everything possible. right now. >> again, we do expect to learn more information sometime this morning. police at this point still

for our afternoon. even once we take care of this lower level moisture, that's kind of a good thing because it keeps the atmosphere stable after we get some daytime heating later today that fire up some thunder showers up around tahoe, 60 for antioch. we've got the mid-fifties up here in the north bay east bay shoreline mid-fifties. 57 for san jose. 53 san francisco. so here's the satellite picture. you can see the mid-level moisture bubbling up from our south await the sandwich situation we have right now. there's like amid layer of the atmosphere right now, it's fairly dry. so that will eat away at the lower level moisture as we get the heating but aloft. there is another moisture meeting. so that's what we'll be watching out for as we get the daytime heating. but you're going to see most of the action happening. tahoe, as you can see from the forecasts projections pretty active up there, but do want to make that addendum note tonight we might happen to see maybe a passing little shower going on. perhaps the santa cruz mountains, some of the higher elevations. the possibility is there. and because of the instability in the makeup of the atmosphere,

are getting a closer look at one of the hundreds of wildfires burning right now across canada. this fire is near the town of tumbler ridge, about 700 miles from bank. hoover. the flames forced 120,000 people from their homes in an unusually early and intense start to the wildfire season. take a look at what some say will be the future of air travel here. the french aircraft maker airbus releasing models for its new airplanes. you can see that they will have see through ceilings the way less and a few are emissions. airbus says reusable materials will be used to build these new cabins. and delta is working with the company on this project, but we will not be seeing these in the friendly skies for a while, at least until 2035. united airlines plans to offer for k viewing experiences to in-flight entertainment. they say image quality of the screens will be sharper and clearer. united will install nearly 300,000 displays on some new planes

victims were taken to the hospital right behind a francisco general hospital to heal. and we do want to show you exactly where this happened with a map. police say at the corner 24th street and treat avenue, police confirming 9 people were shot in the mission district and they're looking for the suspect or suspects involved. this is some video of the scene last night. the shooting happened around 9 o'clock last night. they say dispatch received the report of a shooting with multiple people shot and taken to local hospitals. one victim was taken into surgery according to a legislative aide to supervisor hillary ronen. police say the shooting appears to be targeted and isolated and that there is no known threat to the public. thankfully, all over all of the victims are expected to survive. >> investigation, this is a preliminary. we're taking everything into consideration. and that's why we're asking the public for help. if you saw anything, you heard anything. the investigators are considering any anything and everything possible. right now.

overdose. it's part of an ongoing effort by san francisco's entertainment commission. kron four's ella sogomonian reports on that campaign. >> people using party drugs could nintentionally be exposed to fentanyl. the synthetic opioid has been found in heroin, cocaine pressed pills and methamphetamines. so this pride month, the entertainment commission, san francisco's department of public health and drag queen conchita route all partnered up to make a training video. they're teaching people how to use fentanyl. test strips as well as recognize and reverse an overdose using narcan nasal spray. >> you want to remove the narcan from its packaging. insert the nozzle into the nostrils and press the plunger firmly. >> the department of public health reports fentanyl was involved in nearly 3 quarters of deaths last year. and a small amount could be fatal. steven torres is on the entertainment commission and executive co-chair of the lgbtq cultural district. his work tonight, life for 2

february, a postal worker was robbed of his postal keys allay and 2 people were charged after stealing a postal truck from a worker in martinez robberies have also been reported in fremont, newark and berkeley, but leading the way is oakland where the postal service says their workers are robbed on a weekly basis. sometimes even more. once a day, oakland police have now reported a handful of arrests. but these crimes are still happening. so the department is offering some tips on their website to, quote, reduce the risk. this is though, technically a federal clot crime outside of the jurisdiction of local police. so that also makes it a very risky crime. robberies of usps postal worker are punishable by up 25 years in federal prison in the newsroom. i'm justine waldman. kron. 4 news. a dog fell from a cliff at a popular bay-area beach as kron four's haaziq madyun explains the dog's owner has a warning for

came from, my my. >> where i come from in the community and what she what i saw myself doing as the drag laureate, the events in the programs and just to get a certain sense of who i was tell us a bit about your personal story. 2 years. you've been quite active in the performing well. i mean, i am a san francisco native. so that's that's something right there. i own a nightclub called oasis, which is a cabaret theater and nightclub. i and executive director of voices arts, which is a nonprofit, an arts nonprofit here in san francisco hulu just bought my first feature film. and that's jamie. a very exciting. and you know, not only are you san francisco's first ever drag laureate. you're the first one ever in the entire country. if not the world. >> it will. how does that fantastic. and terrifying i mean it is it's souper exciting, but it is big task. >> and the task you know, i am

ready take on, but it is carving out what this role is for a future drag laureates both in san francisco hopefully being a beacon for other states and cities around the country. yeah, absolutely. and, you know, can you walk us through some of your plans for the job? today i get to throw the first pitch of the giants which is very you know, it really is a bridge, i think, for for the lgbtq+ community and specifically the drag community and other city agencies, small businesses. i'm a business owner. also nightlife is really important because that's where a lot of my community makes their living. so and i think that is also exciting part for san francisco. i want, you know, we get so negative stories these days about san francisco. but i'll tell you the drag seen is flourishing nicely. so much amazing art coming out of oasis every week. so it's a it's exciting. i'm also going to creating a

very large drag festival in san francisco as well as i've got some big one. but i want to create a drag mall a drag mall. and with that so much real estate, i'd like to bring back brick, brick and mortar and i think that drag is the way to do love hearing all those exciting ideas proposals that you have in mind. you we talk about drag really flourishing here in the bay area, right? but in other parts of the country, it really feels like. >> you know, ideas are under threat. they're being challenged the human i believe the human rights campaign, the nation's yes, lgbtq civil rights organization. it's the largest one. they recently declared a state of emergency for lgbtq people in the u.s. for the first time in its 40 year history. what are your thoughts to all of that? i mean, it's it's sad. i mean, drag has been going on for. >> hundreds of years, really.

and it is interesting that is coming under attack now. i think it's also targeting the full algae b t q plus community specifically the trans community it it feels like such a shame when there are much bigger issues like gun control that are actually hurting people rather than a sewer entertaining folks. you know, so mean, my my we want to fight and we got to fight. but we also got a sparkle harder because we're fighting to be entertainers to be fabulous, to be able to be all of this. and so i think by shining our light as well as fighting is what's important. >> do you have a message for people this pride month? well, i do. i do. and i say this all the time and i never get tired of hearing it. hearing myself say it. >> and it's if you can be a little more fabulous. and by fabulous. i mean, the more authentic. and if you can be more authentic and more fabulous, every time you walk out your door, every time you

tiffany justice is live for us now in san francisco with the latest on this. tiffany, what have you learned? i so there was 9 victims and we just learned this morning, 7 of those victims were taken to this hospital right behind us cisco general hospital. >> to heal. we have been told this happened at a community block party last night. let's go ahead and take you to a map to show you exactly where this happened. police say at the corner of 24th street and treat avenue. police confirming 9 people were shot. >> in the mission district and they are looking for the suspect or suspects involved. that's going to show you some video of that last night. the shooting happened around 9 o'clock last night. they say dispatch received a report of a shooting with multiple people shot and taken to local hospitals. one victim was taken into surgery according to a legislative aide to supervisor hillary ronen. police say the shooting appears to be targeted and isolated and that there is no known threat to the public. thankfully, all of the victims are expected to survive.

>> well, it actually started out as sort of a casual project. it we want add a little color to the parade. yeah. so the first triangle went up in the dark of night so we wouldn't be arrested. and it was only later we found out people didn't know what it meant. what year was this? that was 1996. 28 years ago. this is the 28th pink so once we realize people didn't know the history, supersized so became bigger and bigger. it expended 4 times in size. just it's almost an acre. wow. but the pink triangle was used and the knots in concentration camps to identify the homosexuals. because the nazis had a whole system of colored triangles. they had yellow for black for a socials, blue for immigrants and pink for the for the and the pink triangles were slightly larger than the other. so the guards could identify the further away and they were targeted for especially harsh treatment. and a lot of people don't realize it at the end of the war when the concentration camps were finally liberated,

those who were upping triangle were put back in prison under germany's paragraph. one 75 so imagine surviving and a holocaust starving down to practically a skeleton and then being put back in prison. it's the same kind of irrational hatred that affects so many minorities even you know. >> and so you've really taken this symbol of hatred and oppression and you're trying to reinterpreted. >> exactly. yeah. that pink triangles gone through a number of interpretations. the original pink triangle, of course, then in the 1970's, it was used as a symbol of protest against homophobia. and then in the 80's, it was inverted. it was turned upside down point the other and it was used or an act during the aids crisis as symbol of protest for silence equals death. and ever since then, it's been a symbol of pride. and we, of course, have the rainbow flag now. so gilbert baker came to the pink triangle about 9 times and he

used to say they can't. the rainbow flag is antidote to pink triangle. and rick >> and this display can be found in the city's twin peaks neighborhood. right is right on top of the highest mountain. there's no room for subtlety during pride yeah, pink triangle is supersize so that people driving by see it and go, what is it? and then they get curious and look it up and learn about the holocaust and we see an example of that the screen right there. we can see it in that video. what are your plans for how the triangle is going to look this year is this is a good look similar to what we're seeing on the screen at the moment or. >> yeah, it will very similar to that. we have all new material 6 months to get here from overseas, alex. so we're very excited will be a brand new pink triangle new. there's 175 bright pink tarps. and then a border out of 220 foot long sheets of cell cloth. so that's on all 3 sides. the last 3 years it was illuminated beautifully by the

build, we might actually even scratch 90 for those inland valleys. com next weekend. stephanie. >> now to a story that sounds like something right out of a movie. 4 kids lost in the jungle for 40 days after a plane crash are found alive in colombia. 3 adults were found dead in the area. the country's president says the kids ranging from 13 to as young as 11 months old are now getting medical attention. this crash happened on may first when the small plane with 6 passengers and a pilot declared an engine failure. white america there. and we now know the 2 people who died in a plane crash near rio vista were from the east bay, the solano county sheriff's office identified the victims as 41 year-old benjamin sri from concord. and 33 year-old jesse buckner for martinez. the crash happened thursday morning. officials say they noticed the small plane circling in a strange manner sending signals to the ground crew before crashing the faa
