station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. it is saturday june the 24th we're covering a lot of news for you today. start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning day, stephanie. good morning. and good morning, everybody. quite a bit of cloud cover to start. yeah. those fo fog clouds hanging around. you can see this here at the golden gate bridge and of that onshore flow with the flag. you will notice. >> that's going to be all day today. so it's going to continue to bring in the fresh marine layer going on. so clearing is going to be tough for san francisco, golden gate and even portions of southern marine as well. we should get that typical inland clearing by the late morning hours. there's the general flow pattern you can see even down in southern california in along the central coast. some mid-level cloudiness. i'm making its way across the region, too. there you see the trend that we have right now with the winds on shore from the west. expect all this weekend, too. our temperatures going to be on the cool side,

middle to upper 50's. look at that. 53 going on for 56, san francisco in 58 for any act. we expect a little popping later on, though in the far east bay. so for that in the far east bay, you will see that clearing by the late morning hours for the bay. it will take a little longer and for san francisco, quite a bit of cloud cover. 73 well inland at 2 o'clock coming up in a little bit, we'll take a look at what's going on elsewhere across the neighborhood. stephanie. >> all right, david, thank our top story this weekend. tens epof thousands of people are expected in francisco for pride celebrations over the next few days. and city police are stepping up public safety measures. four's ella sogomonian has more on that. >> pride weekend is upon us in san francisco. and police say security is their top priority. the department will be fully staffed. us can be at civic center and during the parade on sunday along market street, they're encouraging people to report anything that may seem like a security threat. >> flag down a police officer

call 9-1-1. if it's an immediate threat to someone's life or safety, let somebody know if something doesn't look right. let somebody know. sergeant winter says there haven't been any blatant threats made against the celebrations that they know of an sfpd along with state and federal partners. >> are keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. the human rights campaign issued a state of emergency for lgbtq americans. earlier this month because of an increase in both hate crimes and discriminatory legislation targeting the community state senator scott wiener of san francisco says it's another reason why staying vigilant is important while having fun. >> safety critical issue for pride every year and particularly for that this year the absolute title to true. direct lgbtq people in this country. sfpd also discourages party goers. >> from engaging with protesters who might show up to voice their opposition to the pride events saying it's

best to ignore them and let officers step in. if they have to. >> and if you are heading to the city by the bay this weekend, you can expect a lot of road closures. this is a look at the parade route right now. the parade kicks off 10, 30 sunday morning at market and beal and ends at market and 8th street, some road closures are already in effect. take a look hair and is now closed from 8th street to berwick civic center plaza is closed all day today as is united nations plaza tomorrow. leavenworth will be closed for mcallister to market sutter will be closed from sansom to market and said some will be shut down between senator and bush market will be closed from 8 to 9. we have a complete list of street closures and the time those streets reopen on our website. kron 4 dot com. bart is offering additional service tomorrow for pride events starting sunday, bart runs a 5 line service until 09:00pm

with added special that trains agency officials say the additional trains will help increase service from millbrae to the city and from pleasant hill into downtown san francisco. well than 30 residents are displaced this morning after a fire erupted at a townhouse complex in san jose. this happened friday night on the 2100 block of was avenue. no one was injured in the fire, but a dog died. the san jose firefighters got the flames under control in about 2 hours. the red cross is assisting the residents displaced. another big story we're following this morning. police arrested a suspect accused of thursday night's deadly shooting outside a san francisco bart station as kron four's dan kerman learned. police say the shooting grew out of a dispute. >> san francisco's high-profile street bart station was the scene of thursday night's violence. police say it was shortly after a 31, a man shot and killed another man. we have

have enough evidence to know that it was just a few witnesses say the dispute began on the train when a woman sitting with the suspect was given a compliment by another man that escalated once the 3 exited the train. >> front side some of compliment. >> at point they're exchanging words are never the case. maybe work on escalator to out of shoots get the top of ice and chips. officers were in the area at the time. and the chief says. >> that led to the quick capture of the suspect. >> if there are these 2 individuals enter taxi cab. they broadcast that over the police radio and the dispatches, but that out as well. other officers observed tactic ave in the area 14th mission. they conducted a stop. what we call hire, a stop. and they detain all the occupants in that tactic inside the cab with the woman was 18 year-old davion

crawford. >> who was arrested for murder? like many other recent suspects. police say he doesn't live in san francisco in this case he lives in sacramento. the chief says the best way to keep outsiders from coming to town to commit crime is a combination of greater police, visibility and accountability when people who are prone to this type spontaneous violence. >> no, there's a good possibility that they will be captured and captured quickly. it is a deterrence and we know that it matters. and while that may be true, this shooting at another heavily-traveled san francisco location has people on edge every other day and something out here. >> you know, somebody shot hurt. you it's just unbelievable. society is a scary. >> dan kerman kron. 4 news. a community is remembering 2 brothers killed in a car crash in dublin. there's now a small memorial for 23 year-old adam

and 23 year-old to lead rashid, both of san ramon, flowers line, the area of the crash site. the brothers died for tuesday night when their car smashed into a tree and light post dublin. police say initial reports suggest excessive speed may have played a role here. a neighbor was at the memorial to pay his respects. i sorry for you says that when they too fast also is that life in. >> like play with lives and other people's lives too. >> southbound over the road from fall creek to willow creek will be closed this morning as investigators gather evidence. a daly city store owner faces charges for shooting and injuring a robber. police say 2 thieves took a rolex watch off the wrist of store owner rocky eaten. he then fired at least 8 shots at the man with a semiautomatic handgun. it happened tuesday at the sun valley, dairy market near the

cow palace. a 19 year-old from san francisco was shot in the neck and shoulder. he is expected to survive. it has 2 prior felony convictions and is banned from owning a gun. his lawyer says he's expected to make bail soon. as we get closer to the 4th of july contra. costa county officials are reminding people that the sale use or possession of fireworks is illegal. kron four's philippe djegal brings us this morning from firefighters. >> recent statistics from the u.s. consumer product safety commission shows 74% of the total fireworks related injuries in 2021. occurred in the weeks before and after the 4th of july. the fireworks this independence day holiday to the professionals by law in contra costa county. all fireworks are illegal possession or use of fireworks can result in up to a $500 fine for each violation this month. the contra costa county fire protection district expanded its wildfire

save every home. >> but in the wee hours of the morning, we evacuated more than 2000 dissipation >> a possibility we might lose homes, not fire last year county, why there were nearly 80 fireworks related fires reported during or around the 4th of july holiday weekend. >> in contra costa county lifted all on the floor. you are inserted into the ground. >> happening tomorrow, the san mateo county sheriff's office hosts a fireworks buyback event ahead of the 4th of july weekend from 10:00am to 05:00pm. people can drop off their unused or unwanted fireworks. no questions asked and get up to $75 in cash. the event takes place in the parking lot of the north fair oaks library on middlefield road in redwood city. all fireworks are illegal in unincorporated san mateo county and county and state parks getting caught with illegal fireworks can result in fines of up to $2000 for the first time ever this year. people who break the rules can be held liable for the cost of

tiffany justice. she's lived there for us this morning. and tiffany, we're expecting a great day out there. >> absolutely. they are just wrapping up setting up right behind us and we should be seeing some of the athletes soon. but joining us right now is matt cohen. he is the chief program officer who is going to tell us more about what is going to take place today. but also what took place yesterday. i hear that the open opening ceremony was amazing. it was we had over 900 athletes and coaches come through last night. >> was highlighted by hall of famer bryant, young. we had a mosical act from las vegas as well as a co. mc kyla from your channel 4 news station. it was amazing time and it kicks off our annual summer games. we have for sports. we have tennis botching swimming here at santa clara university and then we have track and field at cupertino, high school. >> so can lay out what exactly is going to happen today when it comes to the games? yes, so starting around 8.30, our app,

people come to all our venues here at santa clara university. >> and compete to about 2 o'clock. and same thing at cupertino high school about a 30 to 2 o'clock. and then we also have our young athlete program from ages 2 to 7 from 9.30, at 12, 30. and then our healthy athletes were athletes get actually free. health screenings will happen from one to 4 today. and also later this evening and ends with the big dance. we have a dj coming in. our athletes come out and dance in the evening after a long day of competition. then we have our sunday competition here at santa clara university, as well as cupertino, high school, all 4 schools to be on display and it's free charts are at these love. people come out here and cheer from its free parking at both venues. so if you have nothing to do, please come by and say hello, sharon and have a good time. show your support as do you mind talking a little bit more about the athletes are quite a few that are are they from all over? yes, we have athletes from all over northern california. 29

different counties. >> and they train 8 to 10 weeks beginning in march. they have a regional competition and the advance of summer games about 2025% of our athletes who did all the sports this spring advanced or summer games. and so it's a chance of a lifetime that memories that they can make they compete against other athletes they may not have competed against in the regional competition. and get to spend 2 days away with their friends and just have a really wonderful time here at santa clara university. right? and you mention it's free free parking. >> do you mind is mentioning, wait where we are right now is everybody knows where to go. >> yes, it's free admission, free parking. a majority of our events take place at santa clara university over at buck shaw stadium and at the swimming facility and then our track and field competition is at cupertino, high school. and again, it's free. love death support out there showing our athletes. and it's a wonderful day. sounds like a good way to spend your day your saturday and that. thank you so much

for joining us this morning. to send it back to you in studio. yeah. sounds like it's going to be a fun and exciting day later at santa clara university. thank you so much. to >> you're taking a live look now at coit tower it's looking like a pretty chilly start to the day probably a good day to dress in layers if you're planning a step outdoors at this hour, at least if you're by the coast vice there, stephanie layers is how you want to do this thing. green also depends on where you're going to be, too. >> speaking of the south bay there, you're probably get some clearing going on this afternoon and those temperatures in the lower 70's. so a little bit of help there. so layers, as you mentioned, will work. but in places like the coast, yeah, you got a lot of cloud cover. looks like today. tomorrow. all the elements kind of in place. we do have a thick marine layer that's in place going on. yeah, there's some dry air that's upstairs. but, you know, still a lot moisture to be had here. we have the you see the flow pattern going on. the synoptic thing in whatever we do have some cloud

cover to the south. but what we got is our marine layer at the lower levels and then some scattered clouds kind of a lot. but again, this is a thick one. and it does have some dry air working with inland. you'll see some clearing. this is actually a little bit more optimistic. so we want to really underscore probably san francisco more than mostly cloudy deal today. tomorrow, shelley and that brisk wind so dressed for the part. meanwhile, on the east bay shoreline, you'll get some clearing into the afternoon. so be today. here comes the fog again tonight. we do the same deal on your sunday as well as you can see things clear out. meanwhile, tahoe, just to mention the pop of a little thunder showers still a possibility in the afternoon hours. there's the wind flow. it's basically driven by is the thermal gradients. you open up the oven is a temperance, the refrigerator a difference. and that drives a little breeze. that's what we're going to see going on. as you see how the inland clearing happening earlier in the day, then we will see elsewhere. all right, just a quick look ahead. we're talking about it's late clearing, but cloudy at the coast and san francisco mine are warming up happening

towards the end of the weekend inland. we might see those temperatures pop about 90 or so by thursday. we'll have more on your forecast in a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> a husband and father is overcome by heartbreak. last week, his wife and 12 year-old daughter died in a car crash in santa clara. the community is now coming together to help the grieving family four's. dan thorn has more. >> it's something a parent or spouse and never wants to imagine or experience the heartbreak of losing their partner and their child. i don't want to forget. i don't ever want to but you know. still in denial and that that is not possible. christopher chambers, wife, baby and their 12 year-old daughter release died on the afternoon of june 14th, mom and daughter were on their way to the doctor's office when their tesla model y crashed into a tree and burst into flames. what

happened beforehand is a mystery, though. they had an appointment to 15. they left around one 45, which should have been an issue, you know, getting there on time without a >> and about 2.30, >> the doctor called actually and said they never showed up for their appointment, confused chambers tried looking for their location on the tesla app and then called their phones. there was no response frustrated. he decided to take his son and drive toward the doctor's office. within minutes he saw smoke and then a horrific scene swarmed by first responders. >> you know, the firefighters and the police from a very gentle, but they wouldn't let anywhere near. the scene. one of the firefighters came over and he's like you kind of like. kind of held me is like made eye contact. and you you know, keep your memories. you know, remember, then that way because what if we let you see them, then that something that

you would never forget. >> chambers says his wife beatty, who he met in china. well studying was strong and smart. she always had high expectations for her family. she was just a very remarkable. person. you know, always always. and she was. just always striving for his daughter, the lease would have celebrated her 13th birthday on tuesday. she was a blossoming musician and chambers says she was genuinely nice to everyone. she really had a good heart. really did that. that was just her nature. i forced her to be. nast year mean flights couldn't because i just wasn't who she was chambers and his 8 year-old son, ethan, have struggled coming to grips with their new reality without a wife. without a daughter without a mom. and without a sister. the next obstacle is a burial. which chambers is grateful to get help with through a gofundme as of

>> well, the state may have gotten record rainfall this year, but california's water wars have not slow down at the center of the latest debate, the proposed delta tunnel conveyance project. it's a plan to funnel water from sacramento through a 40 mile tunnel delivering it to 29 public water agencies as water from the sacramento river. that water would then go to 27 million californians and more than 750,000 acres of farmland. supporters say it's critically important, but some lawmakers are pushing bipartisan group of 10 lawmakers are urging governor newsom not to include this tunnel project in his infrastructure package. >> there's many protect species that that anywhere else in the world anywhere else in the they would be protected and we want to make sure that under that

>> 7.29 this saturday morning. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. let's start this half hour with a look at our saturday morning forecast with dave sphar a day. stephanie, good morning. and good morning, everybody. quite a bit of cloud cover to start. yeah, the fog is all over the it looks, however, though, the typical fashion will clear out inland. well before noon. however, it's going to be a little stubborn. >> at the coast and certainly san francisco in portions of the east bay shoreline. let's is up to the winds. again. that's going to be another feature because you throw this cloud cover and cooler temps in there with that onshore wind going to be chilly today. there you have the numbers in the 20's and there's that pop that happens and we're seeing the winds also pop a little bit for tomorrow. so putting this all together and getting into next week as well. we talked about it late clearing going on cloudy at the coast, cole with middle 70's 60's going on for the bay. then tomorrow, stubborn bay clouds and fog. slightly cooler with lower to middle 70's going on

for the parade tomorrow in san francisco. probably going to be mostly cloudy and breezy. so to be a bit on the chilly side, early clouds go on next week with the sun mix. cool one, gradual warming, 90's. it looks like by thursday at the ballpark today. giants versus the diamondbacks 105, game time. temperatures near 60 with some token son is a possibility breezy and chilly with those gusts get about. 25 today. 62 san francisco. 65 for open. seventy-two. meanwhile, for san jose and give you kind of a big perspective of everybody here. there's your inland warming contra. costa county will probably have the lion share of the warmest temperatures around the strait and into the delta middle 70's. meanwhile, up to the north bay, 62 for san francisco. we get some better clearing as we get into early next week. and that means around the bay to by the midweek, minor warming there. but inland, you might see 90 by the end of the week longer term forecast coming up in a bit, stephanie. all right. looking forward to that day. thank you. >> a kron 4 continues to track the bay area's fentanyl crisis

and fentanyl related deaths in santa clara county. more than doubled over a month. kron four's gayle ong reports on the latest effort by local officials to curb this problem. >> santa clara county is ramping up its fight against fentanyl. the county's health department revealed this week that fentanyl-related overdose deaths in the county this year rose from 17 in april to 41 in may. eric re era is a director of services delivery for the county's behavior health services department. i think a lot of people are being exposed to deadly drug fentanyl without their knowledge, their purchasing drugs. >> from people that i perhaps on reliable and these drugs are being laced with fentanyl. and that's what's resulting in people's deaths. the county's coroner's office reported 161 fentanyl fatalities in all of 2022. county leaders hoping to bring that number down this year. part of strategy next to be distributing fentanyl. test strips to people who want them

and they'll be able to test. >> drugs that they may be taking on their own and see if there laced with fentanyl county's behavioral health services department also launched a public awareness campaign. >> tv, social media and bus ads targeting people ages 14 to 29 warning of fentanyl-laced pills circulating in the community. doctor, jumanji is the medical director for the valley homeless healthcare program. she leads a team who goes out to in-house communities to pass out narcan and fentanyl. test strips. but her team does not always offer treatments. we want to first focus building that trust and rapport. our goal is to just engage individuals who are not seeking care proactively necessarily. >> we know a lot of these communities are high prevalence substance i think. >> both opioid use and methamphetamine use. the county is also educating the public about naloxone. >> as a lifesaving measure with plans to pass out about 6,000 kids this year and train people who work in public

transit schools and libraries. we're here to help you. >> and if you ready for help or if you have a family member that you concerned about, please call us. >> in san jose del kron, 4 news. >> a san jose doctor is found guilty of illegally prescribing opioids and now faces federal prison time. the justice department says donald show prescribed oxycodone and hydrocodone in increasing quantities to 4 undercover officers posing as patients. investigation found shower wrote more than 8,000 controlled substance prescriptions in just one year. further evidence found he continued to prescribe the medication to a patient who had already overdosed twice. shao is set to be sentenced in november. called for continues to put the focus on fentanyl by tracking the crisis here in the bay area. just scan this qr code right there on your screen. it will take you to a special section of our website that lists all of our latest coverage. mcdonald's workers

at an oakland store have decided to strike cooks and cashiers at the mcdonalds on jackson street claim they were denied sick leave. 2 workers say they were told management could not approve sick leave requests because of a change in the stores. ownership. the impacted workers say they filed a complaint with the city. also in oakland, police say a driver is in custody after crashing a stolen car into a home. that crash happened just after 4.15 yesterday morning on santa rita street off 38th avenue near jungle hill. when police arrived, they say the driver was still in the car and unresponsive with the help of firefighters. officers were able to remove the driver from the car and take them into custody. today marks one year since the supreme court overturned roe v wade on friday, president biden signed an executive order expanding access to contraception. he says that will make it easier to get care and also lower out of pocket costs. the order directs federal departments to

make sure private insurers cover all contraceptives approved by the fda. and on friday, the supreme court sided with the biden administration on a challenge to federal immigration policy in that 8 to one ruling, the justices said the states challenging the rules. texas and louisiana lacked standing to sue the government under the president's policy. only those immigrants who pose a threat to national security and those who recently crossed the border would be arrested. the secretary of homeland security applauding this decision and now an update to a story we first brought you earlier this week. police in the east bay say they've arrested the ringleader of a catalytic converter theft ring one involving almost 250 stolen converters across the bay area. four's haaziq madyun has more. >> 65 catalytic converters were stolen during a 30 day period. a couple of months ago. the city of alameda, some of those crimes were captured on surveillance videos.

alameda police suspected that a crew of may have been responsible. now, investigators say there's been a break in the case. we've made an arrest of an individual who is responsible for numerous calif converter thefts in the city of alameda and in the surrounding region. this week, alameda police arrested. 22 year-old marlen dpo rise of oakland police chief of the shot. joshi says evidence in the case points to arrive. being the ringleader of a bay area. catalytic converter theft crew. so we believe that this crew is responsible for some around 35 cases. we have strong evidence she's orchestrated. many of these, if not all of the that that we're investigating. he says some of the evidence is connected to last week's major catalytic converter theft bust of multiple suspects confiscation of stolen property weapons and $260,000 in cash by the alameda county regional auto theft task force. they were bringing stolen cat converters from alameda to that location. chief joe, she says not only

were gunfire during the 2 catalytic converter thefts in alameda, but he also alleges are ious pulled the trigger. yes, we have evidence that supports that. was the shooter in at least 2 these incidents. he wouldn't go into just what that allege evidence is. but he says it was an a for the alameda county district attorneys office to file charges including grand theft, burglary and firing a from a moving vehicle. at this point, the investigation remains open because he says there are more people being sought in connection to these crimes. >> we know that there are at least 2 to 3 other individuals involved. anyone with information is asked to contact the alameda police department and alameda haaziq madyun kron. 4 >> all right. take a look at this. a special pride marriage celebration happened at san francisco city hall on friday. more than 250 couples tying the knot here. the city deck, the halls welcoming couples of

though, this is going to be hard to get rid of. so that's what you can plan on that front. meanwhile, in the mountains, sunshine. but there's this sign and pops thing. that means if you're from perhaps the midwest or the deep south, sometimes in the in the summer months, you get this chance of afternoon evening thundershowers grill and when you get the daytime heating, so for a couple of hours, there's that risk to see. that's both today tomorrow. but look at those temperatures very close to what the bay temperatures are going to be so very similar. and you're going to see a lot more sun, actually, then we're going to see in the home front with a gradual warming trend later in the week. back to those winds because we do have inland clearing that's going help drive this. so we're also getting a little bit sun optically, but the general trend will be on shore. that's going to continue to bring fresh marine layer moisture to san francisco, the coast and even southern moran. want to send in the tropics here real quick. this is brett and the caribbean. posey taking a western track right to central america will follow. that's what it does. meanwhile, that's a new one out there

events. starting sunday, bart runs a 5 line service until 09:00pm with added special event. trains agency officials say the additional trains will help increase service from millbrae to the city and from pleasant hill into downtown san francisco. and more than 30 residents are displaced this morning after a fire erupted at a townhouse complex in san jose. this happened friday night on the 2100 block of was avenue. no one was injured in the fire, but a dog died. a san jose firefighters got the flames under control. and just about 2 hours, the red cross is assisting. those residents who were displaced. another big story we're following this morning. police arrested a suspect accused of thursday night's deadly shooting outside a san francisco bart station as kron four's dan kerman learned. police say that shooting grew out of a dispute. >> san francisco's high-profile powell street bart station was the scene of thursday night's violence.

police say it was shortly after a 31, a man shot and killed another man. we have have enough evidence to know that it was just a few witnesses say the dispute began on the train when a woman sitting with the suspect was given a compliment by another man that escalated once the 3 exited the train. >> for instance, some of compliment. >> at this point they're exchanging words are never the case. maybe work on escalator to out of get the top of ice and chips. officers were in the area at the time. and the chief says. >> that led to the quick capture of the suspect. >> if there are these 2 individuals enter taxi cab. they broadcast that over the police radio and the dispatches, but that out as well. other officers observed tactic ave in the area 14th, the mission. they conducted a stop. what we call hire, a stop. and they detain all the

have a person in custody in connection to the killing of a well-known baker. jen angel pictured here suffered a critical, brain injury when she was robbed behind the wells fargo on webster street. back in february. she died soon after police have identified the suspect as ishmael birch court records show he faces felony murder charges with robbery enhancements. burch is expected in court for a plea hearing on july 14th. police say the investigation into angels killing is ongoing. a community is remembering 2 brothers killed in a car crash in dublin. there's now a small memorial for 25 year-old adam and 23 year-old khalid rashid, both from san ramon, flowers line, the area of the crash site, the brothers died tuesday night when their car smashed into a tree and light post dublin. police say initial reports suggest excessive speed may have played a role here. a neighbor was at the memorial to pay his respects.

morning news. good morning, everybody. and yes, overcast at the coast to get used to it both today. tomorrow, san francisco as well. east bay shoreline will get some afternoon clearing going on mixed bag of some sun and clouds and certainly opening up those skies for tomorrow. our to this afternoon, rather in tomorrow afternoon as well. back to what the satellite picture is besides are lower level moistures deal that we always have the marine layer at all. the scattered cloud cover coming into the central coast and out of socalgas. also that flow pattern what's going aloft. so it's not just what drives our winds locally, but we're going to have the continuation of the onshore winds. this looks pretty optimistic in terms of clearing out because we're going continue to have that cloud cover along the coast afternoon could see some thunder showers pop up a little bit around tahoe. but those pops are chances of thunder showers are relatively modest. so going to see more sun than anything else going on in temperatures very much like what we're looking at the bay, too. meanwhile, for tomorrow, we do the same drill again. start off in the morning. fog clears off in london and back to the bay and

speeding down the embarcadero. lee initially faced charges including being a wanted felon in possession of a gun. 6 people were injured during that shooting, including a 10 year-old boy who was struck by a car. the overall investigation does continue da brooke jenkins saying in a statement that this type of investigation takes time, adding her office wants to ensure that they gather all relevant evidence needed to evaluate this case and make appropriate charging decisions. a husband and father is overcome by heartbreak. last week, his wife and 12 year-old daughter died in a car crash in santa clara. the community is now coming together to help the grieving family kron four's. dan thorn has the story. >> it's something a parent or spouse and never wants to imagine or experience the heartbreak of losing their partner and their child. i don't want to forget. i don't ever want to forget.

but right above it is dry so we might get some eroding as the day does wear on to sum up the cleats. we like to say in the mid layers, you can see some cloud cover coming in through the central coast a bit. but what's kind of affecting our weather more directly is that lower level moisture from the marine layer middle to upper 50's line up the east bay shoreline got 60's off towards the strait of u c 64 any alex? 57 up there to santa rosa. also san francisco and half moon bay. so at the ballpark today, the giants to battle against the diamondbacks 105, game time. temperatures at about 60 with overcast skies. also have that breezy windy conditions gust 25. it's going to kind of chilly today. here's the breakdown for you, particularly inland. we're going to see those numbers pop into the 70's a little bit on the longer range forecast. we'll tell you on the seven-day. we actually are looking for inland spots to reach about 90 or so. some are just taking some days off. it is not out of here. yeah, stephanie. thank you.

>> across 4 continues to track the bay area's fentanyl crisis and fentanyl-related deaths in santa clara county. more than doubled over a month. kron four's gayle ong reports on the latest effort by local officials to curb the problem. >> santa clara county is ramping up its fight against fentanyl. the county's health department revealed this week that fentanyl-related overdose deaths in the county this year rose from 17 in april to 41 in may. eric re era is a director of services delivery for the county's behavior health services department. i think a lot of people are being exposed to deadly drug fentanyl without their knowledge, their purchasing drugs >> from people that i perhaps unreliable and these drugs are being laced with fentanyl. and that's what's resulting in people's deaths. the county's aoroner's office reported 161 fentanyl fatalities in all of 2022. county leaders hoping to bring that number down this year. part of our strategy next year also be distributing

fentanyl. test strips to people who want them and they'll be able to test. >> drugs that they may be taking on their own and see if there laced with fentanyl county's behavioral health services department also launched a public awareness campaign. >> tv, social media and bus ads targeting people ages 14 to 29 warning of fentanyl-laced pills circulating in the community. doctor jeevan g is the medical director for the valley homeless healthcare program. she leads a team who goes out to in-house communities to pass out narcan and fentanyl. test strips. but her team does not always offer treatments. we want to first focus building that trust and rapport. our goal is to just engage individuals who are not seeking care proactively necessarily. >> we know a lot of these communities are high prevalence substance use. i think >> both opioid use and methamphetamine use. the county is also educating the public about naloxone as a lifesaving measure with plans to pass out about 6,000 kits this year.

at an oakland store have decided to go on strike cooks and cashiers at the mcdonalds on jackson street claim they were denied sick leave. 2 workers say they were told management cannot approve sick leave request because of a change in the stores. ownership. the impacted workers say they filed a complaint with the city. also in oakland, police say a driver is in custody after crashing a stolen car into a home. the crash happened just after 4.15, yesterday morning on santa rita street off 38th avenue near jungle hill. when police arrived, they say the driver was still in the car and unresponsive the help of firefighters. they were able to remove the driver from the car and take them into custody. police in the east bay say they've arrested the ringleader of a catalytic converter theft ring kron. four's haaziq mod-yoon has the details. >> 65 catalytic converters were stolen during a 30 day period. a couple of months ago. the city of alameda, some of those crimes were captured

on surveillance videos. alameda police suspected that a crew of may have been responsible. now, investigators say there's been a break in the case. we've made an arrest of an individual who is responsible for numerous calif converter thefts in the city of alameda and in the surrounding region. this week, alameda police arrested. 22 year-old marlen dpo rise of oakland police chief of the shot. joshi says evidence in the case points to arrive. he's being the ringleader of a bay area. catalytic converter theft crew. so we believe that this crew is responsible for some around 35 cases. we have strong evidence she's orchestrated. many of these, if not all of the that that we're investigating. he says some of the evidence is connected to last week's major catalytic converter theft bust of multiple suspects confiscation of stolen property weapons and $260,000 in cash by the alameda county regional auto theft task force. they were bringing

stolen cat converters from alameda to that location. chief joe, she says not only were gunfire during the 2 catalytic converter thefts in alameda, but he also alleges are ious pulled the trigger. yes, we have evidence that supports that. was the shooter in at least 2 these incidents. he wouldn't go into just what that allege evidence is. but he says it was an a for the alameda county district attorneys office to file charges including grand theft, burglary and firing a from a moving vehicle. at this point, the investigation remains open because he says there are more people being sought in connection to these crimes. >> we know that there are at least 2 to 3 other individuals involved. anyone with information is asked to contact the alameda police department and alameda has menu 4 news. >> well, today marks one year since the supreme court overturned roe v wade on friday, president biden signed an executive order expanding access to contraception. he says that will make it easier to get care and also lower out of pocket costs. the order

let's start by getting a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning days, stephanie, good morning. and good morning, everybody. overcast is kind of how we're starting the day today. very typical with that marine layer. however, it's quite thick and it's hard to really mix that out here. >> for today, although the air aloft is a little drier. we'll see some clearing going on certain in the east bay well inland. but along the eastern shore lines going to take awhile, golden gate bridge. it shows you that fog has lifted well be on the towers, but again, there's nice that player in which to contend with there's your onshore wind with the flag flapping around. you'll notice there the winds currently they're going to build in the 20 mile per hour range and some of the valleys in the east bay and around the carquinez strait expected to become a little bit of a wind tunnel and that will be a chilly wind too. we've got 50's in place for now. almost all locations. 62 going on concord and 64 for any alex, we haven't seen a lot of warming just yet. the contrast for you what we're trailing ground. the beige will notice, although inland, a couple numbers are a little bit more modest, 70 by 1 o'clock by 4.

and unified partners participate in the program. so here we have over 1000 that are competing, you know, bochy swimming tennis and track and field. but there's all these other wraparound activities that happen throughout the weekend to really showcase what it means to be special. the unique abilities and talents are athletes have that they bring to the table. and so it just a phenomenal celebration last night with bright young on hand, the hall of famer from the san francisco forty-niners gave a keynote address and he actually broke down the word special to him and what it means and encouraged our athletes. you know, there are an versiti that they face and how they overcome. so there are an inspiration to him. so it's a wonderful keno so that we have frankie moreno and lacey schwimmer from dancing with the stars then they perform. we got our athletes up and dancing. keith, key part for athletes opening ceremonies as today. leslie love the energy, you know, high energy level and just to help fund and then we're law enforcement, security of

choice. and so almost 1 billion dollars back to 1981 for special olympics world wide. and so they their series the torch run events where they promote special olympics raise awareness of running the flame of hope. the flame of hope symbolizes hope for people with intellectual disabilities. and so they run that way in throughout our footprint that ends up in opening ceremony say like to call during the games begin. so it's just a a wonderful feel. good. we're on a again that we have to really get get this of that going. and you know, and then we'd we start the competition's really competitions today. and tomorrow on sunday here at clara university of the different venues. and so again, it's really about showcasing their abilities talents. and so. we have we have some pretty broad base schools with a 30 year ideation school for our our footprint that we want to be

in. enhances access, increase, engagement every community and school in northern california. every every want. again, so we go all the way down to buy. so you every single one, whether it's san francisco unified, which modoc enough, it doesn't really so. so the ability to do events like this help generate support for us. and we have a campaign currently right now that we're doing cold, do something special dot and so the word special, we embrace our athletes embracing. it's a it's a sense of empowerment. and you know, for instance, one of athletes will will i have a handicap. yeah, it's 5 and they played. right. so it's it's just that sense of really embracing what it means to be a special olympics and so through the do specials do something special dot campaign. we encourage everybody to get involved to part of the special olympics family, whether it's participating as an athlete, participating as a donor participating as a volunteer.

and so we have a series of commercials. billboard said just opportunities for people to really see what it means to be special. let's also highlight some of the athletes you know, let's talk about the athletes. 650 of know we actually actually more so. yeah, no. so yeah, we we have about 865 athletes that participated. so. >> no, the range all over him at the maps that we have, you know, athletes. so we division are athletes in terms of our sports highly, highly competitive athlete. second competed in the level like when you go to a summer games, go to usa games, go to world games and you see the quality of our our athletes. they may have the law. so bill, it does i mean, they can compete anywhere. and then we have other athletes to the primarily participate skills. and so division and we go from one to 5 typically. and so we provide opportunities every special olympics athlete to participate. and to to be

police say they have a person in custody in connection to the killing of a well-known baker. jen angel suffered a critical brain injury when she was robbed behind the wells fargo on webster street back in february. she died soon after police have identified the suspect as ishmael birch court records show he faces felony murder charges with robbery enhancements. burch is expected in court for a plea hearing on july 14th. police say the investigation into angels killing is ongoing. another big story we're following this morning. police arrested a suspect accused of thursday night's deadly shooting outside a san francisco bart station as four's dan kerman learned. police say the shooting grew out over disputes. >> san francisco's high-profile polish treat bart station was the scene of thursday night's violence. police say it was shortly after a 31, a man shot and killed another man. we have have enough evidence to know that it was just a few

obviously raising kyron from a young age. was there unique about him that maybe maybe said apart from his peers that made you realize, ok, he we can set up, set him up on a track to get into college a little earlier to get santa clara. right. in reality. we're very late to the game. so for the first yes, for the 9 years of his life, we actually just chalked up his conversational topics strange. >> but, you know, maybe he just has these really advanced verbal skills and social skills and you put them together. and then really strange topics. he talks what we actually never thought he was one of those kids. we just a minute. so it wasn't until he was 9 years old the learning and the pace became so compounded beyond our natural abilities and he had to get tested. and that's when we found out for the first time that we missed a lot of

times. haha. >> i'm in tie. what was it like going to school at santa clara university? my dad actually also graduated from there. so but going to school with obviously people who bit older my closest friends now are from it's been the best years my life. >> i remember the first day of we've their instagram post story about me and they remember just being hundreds of messages, instagram, gm's and e-mails from others, students. they made so many friends just like for state. and that really told me that i was where i was meant to be. the computer science and engineering department at university is very tight and so after the curiosity about my situation, we're off. they saw that. i am that i was very similar to cautions i was able to make a lot of very close friends. >> well, incredible. and what were your thoughts as you are kind of watching him go through the college experience

and there may be watching this from afar where you pretty hands on. >> so karen and i have to move closer to so that he could gain the full college experience. we want to make sure that we could replicate as much of dorm life as we could given that he couldn't live in the dorm being under 16 but i'll tell as a parent i years wondering when is he going to so i would say he would study maybe 15 minutes a day at so and and 5 years and 0 notes. so when show learner. so even now as i'm talking to you, i am confounded by how that can a naturally gifted. it almost sounds like when you process information. >> you just take it in it. you can just committed to memory.

illegal fireworks can result in fines of up to $2000 and for the first time ever this year, people who break the rules can be held liable for the cost of emergency response to violations, including the cost of medical treatment and property damage. for continues to track the bay area's fentanyl crisis. fentanyl related deaths in santa clara county. more than doubled over a month. kron four's gayle ong reports on the latest effort by local officials to curb this problem. >> santa clara county is ramping up its fight against fentanyl. the county's health department revealed this week that fentanyl-related overdose deaths in the county this year rose from 17 in april to 41 in may. eric re era is a director of services delivery for the county's behavior health services department. i think a lot of people are being exposed to deadly drug fentanyl without their knowledge, their purchasing drugs >> from people that i perhaps on reliable and these drugs

are being laced with fentanyl. and that's what's resulting in people's deaths. the county's coroner's office reported 161 fentanyl fatalities in all of 2022. county leaders hoping to bring that number down this year. part of our strategy next year will also be distributing fentanyl. test strips to people who want them and they'll be able to test. >> drugs that they may be taking on their own and see if there laced with fentanyl county's behavioral health services department also launched a public awareness campaign. >> tv, social media and bus ads targeting people ages 14 to 29 warning of fentanyl-laced pills circulating in the community. doctors are edgy. van g is the medical director for the valley homeless healthcare program. she leads a team who goes out to in-house communities to pass out narcan and fentanyl. test strips. but her team does not always offer treatments. we want to first focus on building that trust and rapport. our goal is to just engage individuals who are not seeking care

proactively necessarily. >> we know a lot of these communities are high prevalence substance use. i think >> both opioid use and methamphetamine use. the county is also educating the public about naloxone as a lifesaving measure would plans to pass out about 6,000 kits this year. >> and train people who work in public transit schools and libraries. we're here to help you. >> and if you ready for help or if you have a family member that you concerned about, please call us. >> in san jose del kron, 4 news. >> police in the east bay say they've arrested the ringleader of a catalytic converter theft ring. >> kron four's haaziq madyun has the details. >> 65 catalytic converters were stolen during a 30 day period. a couple of months ago. the city of alameda, some of those crimes were captured on surveillance videos. alameda police suspected that a crew of may have been responsible. now, investigators say there's been a break in the case. we've made an arrest of an individual who is responsible

for numerous calif converter thefts in the city of alameda and in the surrounding region. this week, alameda police arrested. 22 year-old marlen dpo rise of oakland police chief of the shot. joshi says evidence in the case points to arrive. being the ringleader of a bay area. catalytic converter theft crew. so we believe that this crew is responsible for some around 35 cases. we have strong evidence she's orchestrated. many of these. >> if not all of the that that we're investigating. he says some of the evidence is connected to last week's major catalytic converter theft bust of multiple suspects confiscation of stolen property weapons and $260,000 in cash. >> by the alameda county regional auto theft task force. they were bringing stolen cat converters from alameda to that location. chief joe, she says not only were gunfire during the 2 catalytic converter thefts in alameda, but he also alleges are ious. pull the trigger. yes, we have evidence that
