potential impacts on the power grid and public transportation. plus, the safety tips to keep in mind if you have plans to hit the water to beat the heat. and a busy day at levi stadium today. competition kicking off their for the conch a calf gold cup. trump was tiffany justice is live with a preview of the excitement. let this get things started with dace bar for a first look at the weather. good morning, david. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. we're getting things started. start off with a little bit less in the way that marine layer. that's role apparent the shop in the east bay shoreline. there you see a couple scattered clouds way a lot. >> but it's also warmer at first light going on. the only difference is we have a little bit of weaker high pressure right aboveus compared to yesterday and maybe a little bit more of a surface wind this afternoon to help take a slight edge off of things. but don't expect much east bay shoreline, as you can see, kind of lit up very nicely at this hour. now we're still into that excessive heat advisory heat advisory for much of the bay. meanwhile, it's a warning, as you can see, the sacramento in central

valleys. this will be through this evening because there's a more dramatic drop with those temperatures by tomorrow. now, our current numbers already batting at 75 for antioch. most readings you can see in the board are in the 60's except the coast. you can see 55 there, half moon bay, 58% rose and 59 for but everybody else is in 60's area and this is above our numbers from yesterday. by half a dozen degrees in many cases there. so it's not your imagination and the wind aloft it the airlock is also very warm but much drier. this go around 90 for 11:00am by 2 were at 98 as we get take the slight edge off of yesterday. but again, a bigger drop expected for tomorrow in a bit. we'll take a look at that extended forecast for you to see what you can expect into that cold week, stephanie. all right, dave, thank triple degree. temperatures continue to bake parts of the bay area today. four's amanda hari is caught up with people in san jose. >> looking to beat the heat. many people i spoke with said they were enjoying the weather, especially after it

was unseasonably cold for several days. they say this was a welcome change. >> as temperatures reach the mid 90's in san jose. people are feeling i'm even sweating right now. actually parents backpack. but ricky coronado says he still chose to bask in the warmth and take advantage of it. it's a very day. it's very nice here and everything. so it's perfect for her. but i because of others weren't quite as happy about the heat to and they see at santana row. people were lined up outside of ice cream for a cool treat. even up to do more strawberry ice i get strap a ice cookies and cream shervin carry me says, well, he was enjoying the heat wave. his body wasn't quite ready for the change in temperature. feeling good. a little tired. the the sun i can. i can tell that it's kind of training manager. so he was doing what he could to stay safe. despite the rising temps drinking a

there for us this morning. and tiffany, we understand that in addition to the heat, people are also being warned about traffic around the stadium. >> yes, a lot of people are expected to be attending these games today. as you can we are anticipating another hot day today. santa clara is expected to reach the 90's today and the levi stadium right in front of it's in direct sunlight. so we know that those who are going to be going to the games are going to be trying to do with the heat today. we want to get you prepared with that as well. >> we want to also tell you that the gold cup is held every 2 years today. jamaica faces kids and needs at 04:00pm mexico. a play qatar at 06:00pm. america is still in the running for the title this year. their match against trinidad and tobago. >> is happening in north carolina. now the event is estimated to bring in around 68,500 people to the stadium. the parking lots will open around 2 o'clock this afternoon. and that is also when fanfest will get going

outside of the stadium as well. anyone with a ticket to the games can attend that. now there will be music giveaways in the gold cup trophy will also be there on hand with this international soccer tournament taking place at levi stadium. there will be increased traffic around the area. organizers say heavy traffic and delays are expected on major thoroughfares leading into and from the stadium, including highway 101, 2, 37 8.80, they say expect increased traffic to begin around 2 o'clock this afternoon and continue throughout the match is around 8.30, this evening. there will also be several road closures around the stadium as well. and people are being encouraged to take that public transportation. this is all transportation. this is all happening as levi stadium is major sporting events over the next few years. last week, kron 4 got a chance to speak with the stadium officials about the impact events will have on the bay area. >> we're so excited to host these events. it brings extreme economic impact to the bay area, santa clara and the

are dead and 28 others injured. 3 of the injured we know are in critical condition. the shooting happened just after midnight at a block party. all of the victims are adults. police are still looking for the shooter this morning. back here in the bay area in the east bay. all lanes are back open after a fatal crash early this morning in concord. the crash happened on southbound highway 2.40 to near the concord avenue off-ramp shortly before 02:00am the contra costa county coroner's office was called to the scene. the cause of the crash is under investigation. a man is recovering the day. this today accuse me this morning after he was found shot in san francisco's russian hill neighborhood saturday night. police found him around 10 in the area of grant avenue in pacific street near broadway. he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. police are asking anyone with information to please get in touch. in the north. a suspicious death investigation is underway after a woman's body is found in a motel room. police say

they found the body saturday morning at the gateway inn in fairfield. she's only being identified as a 25 year-old. the cause of the death is under investigation. attempted robbery in san francisco led to a shooting that left at least one man injured. it happened around 12, 30 saturday morning near fillmore and filbert streets in the marina district. police say the 71 year-old victim was oach b him and then ot cphim. that's when they ran off the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. no word yet on any arrests. and the wife of the sonoma county sheriff is charged after crashing her car into a home that crash happened back on may 5th police say shot winning hill and durham crashed her tesla through the wall of a house in santa rosa. almost hitting a person inside that person, suffering cuts and bruises from the impact winning hill and durham is charged with felony dui enhance meant because of the amount of alcohol in her

>> july, does it really feel like july? i don't know. but i mean, you know, it's interesting because if you if you brought that up a few days ago, i mean, it was pretty chilly parts of san francisco, course this weekend, a very different story to different that's right. it's going to every bit like a like good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and actually in the next weekend, but feel very different you'll see that 7 day forecast. >> meanwhile, our picture from the east bay shoreline, different view today that we had from yesterday yesterday at this time we had all this fog at the surface. well, it's not doing that kind of job today. much drier aloft. however, you see some % scattered clouds and they're just a little bit here will see that probably over the next few hours playoff over the bay. just a touch. yes, we're still in the domination of high pressure here, sometimes called a dirty high. when you get some of this activity here, not going to be much of a player at all. but if he's happy to see some of those clouds, they're painting the skies a little most readings right now in the 60's around the perimeter of the base. chillier 50's off towards the coast. 83. >> already off to a warm start. contrasted with santa

carquinez strait right across the golden gate and anywhere near water. just a touch. so that will be the case as we get into early next week and help chip away at those high temperatures. a little bit. still hot today, 100 degrees in some spots, 80's for most of the east bay shoreline. however, then for the coast, we got the scattered clouds mild near about 70. however, as we get into early next week or to feel big difference, particularly by monday as we relax those temperatures and by july 4th proper upper 80's going on inland with 70's for the east bay and it continues to drop from there to rest of the week. so 71 san francisco, mild and breezy 79 going on for oakland, san jose at 92 quite warm for those inland valleys. 100 plus going on, as you antioch, reaching 100 there. 92 for santa rosa. but just to give you a little sample, what kind of see the outline there with a cold or cooler air coming in for the marine layer is taking kind of a pathway through the bay next couple of days. here's the drop. 93 monday, tuesday at 90, course, we'll have that extended forecast for the 4 zone and a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you for

that update. >> and like dave mention, temperatures in the east bay are still expected to be high today on saturday, livermore reached 107 degrees. kron four's gayle ong reports with reaction from people trying to stay cool in the east bay. this fountain in downtown livermore provided relief from the heat saturday afternoon. the water. >> and my kids. i don't think they care. they just want the water. do we have a little water table at home? but i think they like you hear a lot better. plus, some mountain middle downtown livermore can row fajitas. one of the few people we saw out in downtown livermore during the peak of the first heat wave of the season. >> the national weather service issued a heat advisory for inland areas as temps soar to triple digits. empty tables and chairs could be seen during a time. that's usually bustling. usually always packed. >> always patio areas, but maybe the heat is probably contributing factor to all that saturday afternoon. this temperature marquee read 100

>> welcome back. the union representing ups worker says a strike is imminent as labor negotiations continue. ups had provided a counter offer to the union friday night. just hours before the union pledged to go on strike workers are demanding higher pay more for time, jobs and better conditions inside of delivery trucks. >> there's no a c in the in the truck just recently bought 18 years ago in fans and for some practice to make. >> 15% because they were going weekend, which is just doesn't make sense. >> ups has asked to continue negotiations until wednesday.

the union is expected to hold a press conference later today with an update. and it will cost you just a bit more to mail. a letter starting later this month started a week from sunday. a forever stamp will now cost $0.66 a nickel higher than today. however, a new simplified package system means it will cost about 3% less too male. most larger items. and a warning from the post office about mailing anything with mercury. up at the usps says you cannot send anything containing that liquid metal, including thermometers, blood pressure monitors and some antiques. the only exception, some compact fluorescent lamps, which contains small amounts of mercury in vapor form. if you're caught mailing mercury, you can face a fine of at least $250. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, the high heat drive people to the water in the east bay. >> got more on how voters are hitting the delta weekend. it

welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. let's start this half hour with a look at just how hot it's getting out there. checking in with dave was in the weather center with the latest today. stephanie, good morning. and good morning, quite a warm start already actually warmer by half a dozen degrees or so that we work from this time yesterday. less in the way of fog going on here. >> as conditions are much drier aloft and our high pressure is weakening weakening ever so slightly. there's a san jose state for you and note some of the scattered clouds off to the distance. a similar imagery we're seeing around the bay as well. now winds not too much action here. we won't see much, although a little bit of a breeze around the golden gate. >> but up against the east bay shoreline around oakland uncorking a straight. those will be the kind of channels with the winds will be. but we're hoping for that to build a little bit more. so next week as this high weakens now, the heat advisory with us until this evening that's a warning for the central valley and also the sacramento valley at the ballpark for oakland versus the white sox today. 107, game time temps, upper

automatically shuts off the engine that way. it doesn't get away from you. >> and you can safely get back on the vehicle. keep in mind, the water is regularly patrolled. the contra costa county office of the sheriff marine unit and a fire protection district vote makes stops and safety. jax boaters are urged to share your plans with someone on land before you head out. just in case something bad happens and of course, do not drink alcohol and take the wheel. in fact, the last time i was here with my nephew a couple weeks ago, we got pulled over just for a standard safety check. >> they were really respectful and greats. they went through make sure we had all the rain gear. >> and then they let us go in our way. it's just smart to do it for yourself. but of course, if you're just worried about ticket, you should also careful of the water. make sure your vessel is in good order before taking off and prepare for the lots ice packs. this boat has cooling areas. so we just lots of water and by law, all kids under 13 years of age must wear a life jacket.

>> in police to call kron 4 news. >> and police in emeryville are warning people of armed robberies happening at a local bank. this is at the bank of america on san pablo avenue. multiple people reported being robbed while returning to their vehicles after using the atm, investigators say the robbers were armed with handguns. anyone with information is asked to please call emeryville police. and a saturday shooting in oakland left one person seriously injured. it happened on the 1400 block of 80th avenue around 04:00pm. the victim was taken to an area hospital. anyone with information is asked to please contact oakland pd. and rack in downtown san francisco has officially closed its doors. the retailer on market street announcing the closure back in may. they say the dynamics of the downtown market area have changed dramatically over the past several years. lowering foot traffic to the store. the company says it also plans to close its westfield location at the end of next month.

that's also on market street. and just down the street from the nordstrom's, the old navy on market street closed up shop on saturday. the parent company of all navy says they're all they are already looking for new locations around downtown san francisco. the navy location on folsom street, they say will stay open. the market street location open more than 20 years ago. and if you try browsing twitter today, you may have been met with an error message. the platform was down for some users and now ceo elon musk says he is applying temporary limits. musk tweeting this response. he's tweeted saying that verified users, we'll be able to view 10,000 posts. unverified users will be able to read 1000 post and 500 for new unverified users. musk says the changes were made to address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation. and their plane

crashed into rubik on bay on lake tahoe. the el dorado county sheriff's office saying 2 people were on board that plane and one of them suffered a serious head injury. shed the latest on the investigation. >> well, dan, the faa and the ntsb are investigating why this small plane crashed into rubik on bay. we do know that many people in their boats rushed over to help the 2 people on board. if see the >> the plane flyover look like a. to true. that looks like the kind of plane that john denver was flying when he crashed in more moderate. we heard it. i mean, i turned and then i back to focus on the meeting because we get that did >> dropped from the sky. >> bob and carol, roe berg attended the annual rubik on bay residents. h.o.a. meeting on the private beach around 10 this morning when during the

meeting they learned a fixed wing plane. they had seen earlier went down. said plane had crashed and they were bringing the guy and on boat. you are they are just very lucky. sum boats were the el dorado county sheriff's office says multiple people on the water hurried over to help the 2 people on board. one suffered a serious head injury. we could see the plane sank it as soon as it hit was and completely. and it almost 5 minutes. and we just saw all the votes start circling in where the plane crashed between these 2 red see it out there. circles coming from this spiraled rubik on bay beach attended and guard alyssa whitmarsh and bella de fee. >> we're also at that h.o.a. meeting when they witnessed all the commotion. everyone just kind of like came in and helped out and yeah, it was picked them it was amazing to just see like everyone kind of trying to do what they could to help and there's so many

boats surrounding. yeah, you know, the actual plane crash we have like ex cops and firefighters, everything. so doctor, soon as like they brought in the bone, everyone's yelling, mike. we had people going down there helping out making sure that everything was ok as much as they could to help some really residents that come to our beach ended up taking the people and on their boat. yeah, and i'm really shortly after ambulances here, firefighters and it looks like everything was ok. >> every week on bay rowena shaddox kron. 4 news. >> and police in santa cruz arrested a woman for using bear spray for allegedly using bear spray to attack another driver in an apparent road rage incident. it happened earlier summer on 17th avenue in the live oak neighborhood in santa cruz. investigators say the suspect chased down the victim in her vehicle once both car stopped at a red light, she allegedly got out of her car and turn on that bear spray spring it through the victim's front driver side

the holiday weekend expected to reach triple digit temperatures as dave just mentioned, fire officials are on alert across the bay area. the contra costa fire department says the hot weather and vegetation that experience from this year's heavy rainfall is a dangerous combination for the use of illegal fireworks and this fire or other. this video shows some of those dangers earlier this week on fire demonstrated what could happen when a sparkler is thrown into dry grass. that fire burned about an 8th of an acre in less than 6 minutes. steve hill with con fire says these concerns are on their radar. >> stages conditions out there. not the time to introduce fireworks into the equation that their their use in our view is nothing short of irresponsible. but in general, it's looking to be shaping up to be a pretty challenging fire season. >> the fireworks as a reminder, our illegal across contra costa county. people spent yesterday outdoors enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures in san francisco. this is dolores park and you

broadway. he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. police are asking anyone with information to please get in touch. in the north bay, a suspicious death investigation is underway after a woman's body is found in a motel room. police say they found the body saturday morning at the gateway inn in fairfield. she's only being identified as a 25 year-old. the cause of death is under investigation. attempted robbery in san francisco led to a shooting that left at least one man injured. it happened around 12, 30 saturday morning near fillmore and filbert streets in the marina district. police say the 71 year-old victim was approached by 2 suspects who tried to rob him and then shot him. that's when they ran off. the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. no word yet on any arrests. the wives of sonoma county sheriff of the sonoma county sheriff is charged after crashing her car into a home. the crash happened back on may

like half moon bay, they're perfect geography to get kind of a little bit that southwesterly flow as this high starts to slip towards the south. so >> this is kind of indicative of what we're going to see building along the wider coast. so there may be a little break going on as we approach new mineral fill back up again with fog. you may fair little better up in the north bay, perhaps because we're a little further away from that flow pattern. just a as an id oketo forecast. we're going to stay in the lower 80's. it looks like monday, tuesday and wednesday. so quite warm. there isn't ice a little chance of a shower. thunder shower, current temperatures, not highs. 86 antioch, 75 for livermore. east bay shoreline. upper 60's lower 70's still looks like a shocker. look at highs of light on what his lofty at this at this hour. 65 up to santa rosa, by the way. so there it is. that high starting to slow sale to the southeast a little bit as we go forward and will now start to get that flow pattern coming in from the southwest

as beautiful next time you visit. and then we're also getting people together to help clean it up after the festivities are over on july 5th. >> all right. so speaking of that, big clean up a walk us through what you guys have planned and the fact that you did pick up quite a bit of trash around the same time last year. >> yeah. so this is actually this year is our 10th anniversary of our july 5th. keep talking white and blue cleanup last year. we across all of our sites. our volunteers, 300 of them picked up 3500 pounds of litter 3,500 pounds. and just clearly far too much. so this year we have a similar event planned across 6 different sites all around the lake. we invite anyone and everyone to come out and help us clean up and hopefully we don't find anything because everybody practices pack it pack it out. principles. you need tiny little piece of litter. you bring to the beach with you comes back with you. he either goes into a trash can or gets in your car to be disposed of properly at home.

anybody can can come and join us talk a blue org. slash events is where you can register and find out more details. >> i also understand you're introducing some new technology to help with cleanup efforts to. >> yeah. we have a beach cleaning robot sit down 4 to 5 inches into the sand remove some of the tiny, really difficult to detect, really kind of painstaking, sure move pieces of especially plastic litter. it's very difficult for volunteers are beach staff to find themselves. so we kind of think is this if the robot the as a last line of defense before that nasty litter gets into the water? >> it's so valuable to have that technology on your side. but the same time we want everybody to be picking up after themselves. >> absolutely. that's the that's the biggest message out there. everybody loves league title because it is beautiful and pristine. so all you need to do is manage around impact of everybody does the same.

but it will be beautiful and we can keep it flew for, you know, generations to come. yeah. >> and i'd also like to ask you about wildfire impacts on the lake. we know that the caldor fire affected the region, especially hard just a couple of years back. are you still seeing the effects of this fire on the waterway there? >> you know, we actually did a study using some of our own volunteer citizen scientists to gather so that, of course, there were impacts. a lot of that. what a little grains of soil did flew into the lake. but right now, the lakers looking pretty good. you know, those water levels are really high. beaches are small. the waters really cold. so people get out there, enjoy it. but please do so responsible and protect the special place. >> yeah. and are there any sort of things that people should be bringing with them to make sure that, you know,

all the trash is getting picked up and taken back. >> great. great if people want beach. if you want. >> yeah, some good advice there. and go back to the subject of wild fires. we know that fire officials are gearing up for this for this year's wildfire season. other anything's in particular that you're keeping an eye out for in terms of the just preserving the water quality of the lake. >> i mean, this is the concern every every year about this time when things start to get really dry and crisp ignitions are prevalent because people are out there, enjoy it and hit the tidal basin this year,

pretty much concentrated around half moon bay. and that might be hard to kind of mix out because we have that southwesterly flow. it works so some scattered clouds aloft, which is make note around the noon hour for that starts to clear out. then we get some better improvement into the sky conditions a little bit. now those temperatures will be pretty lofty, however, is what we're looking at. 4 numbers inland to be popping still at 100 and some selective spots. there you have it. the east bay shoreline with that excessive heat or the heat advisory in place for low the bay. a warning going on well inland. those temperatures already up to 86 antioch livermore. 81, some 70's inland already in some 60's losing hold around the water as you will notice. temperature contrast, we're still batting well ahead of yesterday's numbers. again, a little bit of an onshore breeze might help chip away of what our waukee high would be. 96 going on at 1 o'clock by forward. 98. so still much the an improvement as we get into early next week. that is if you're looking for relax of temperatures, we've got at the

the east bay all lanes are back open in the bay area's east you can see where that impact happened on the map on your screen. this is in concord. the crash happened on southbound highway 2.40, to near the concord avenue off-ramp shortly before 02:00am the contra costa county coroner's office was called to the scene. the cause of the crash is under investigation this morning. a man is recovering after he was found shot in san francisco's russian hill neighborhood saturday night. police found him around 10 o'clock in the area of grant avenue and pacific street near broadway. he was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. police are asking anyone with information to please get in touch. in the north bay. a suspicious death investigation is underway after a woman's body is found in a motel room. police say they found the body saturday morning at the gateway inn in fairfield, the victim is only being identified as a 25 year-old. the cause of death is under investigation.

attempted robbery in san francisco led to a shooting that left at least one man injured. it happened around 12 30 saturday morning near fillmore and filbert streets in the marina district police say the 71 year-old victim was approached by 2 suspects. we tried to rob him and then shot him. that's when they ran off. the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. no word yet on any arrests. the wife of the sonoma county sheriff is charged after she crashed her car into a home that crash happened back on may. 5th police say natasha winning hill and durham crashed her tess left with a ball of a warehouse in santa rosa. almost hitting a person inside the person inside the home suffered cuts and bruises from the impact with a hill. and durham is charged with felony dui and an enhancement because of the amount of alcohol in her system. she is married to sonoma county sheriff eddie and graham who was elected in november and graham has yet to enter a plea. as chp. maximum

talked to the coordinator yesterday and they have an immediate need for some and one of is the protein bars, ok? so those close bars any kind of protein bars. so they're great need of that as well as these packages of chicken or tuna poke. and why are these protein items in particular so important? i think they just because, well, that's a good question because a lot of people assume that when they they're not at a large base. they have a supppy chain. but basically if they're not at the base, their supply chain is nonexistent. so the blue star moms jumps and tries to fulfill their needs as much as possible. and it's everything from food to toiletries to even entertainment. we want to add to that blue star moms is a bay area organization as well. it's actually their the chapter that i've i'm talking about right now that they are

located in the in the danville, san ramon area. but there are chapters all over the bay area. santa south bay contra costa. and then it is it's a chapter of a national organization. yes, okay. so you can find organization near you. okay. great. and next on the list we have. so they really need toiletries and, you know, as we we are going to be very hot and and and you don't think this weekend? yes. so you think of these troops there in full gear? and it's hot. there's no air conditioning for them. so they reaoly right now. need shampoos body washes. deodorant. also these these wet wipes to really really nice and refreshing for them to cool off and washed down because they don't may not be at have access to a shower,

right. and today do the blue star moms looking for travel size like the ones you brought today or can people donate perhaps in larger quantities? they are looking for this. the travel size to because they have very heavy backpacks and they can't fit a whole lot of things in it. but you could buy these travel sizes in bulk. so they actually have a list of their wish list on their website, which blue star moms dot org. and then they also have a list for costco. so you can buy really supplies of what they want and then they can break it up and divvy it up. all right. to know. so they need for saying was that, i guess for, you know, entertainment and flashlights. even suggest so and then even even on their list with some tv, s they do have access some dvds and wood and any kind of

entertainment books like gently used books are really appreciate it, especially if they're funny, they need humor, laughter out lighting up the moon, right to get pretty serious. oh, exactly. and then some crossword puzzles also really nice. what's really appreciated our socks, ok? and you think it's a basic items that you can imagine when it's hot out, they're in boots all so wearing a nice fresh pair of socks and then also cut 7 foot patter is nice. also because they really tape. really irritated when theyrwere speaking out on the road and depending on the weather, it can get pretty extreme. so it sounds like that could be very helpful. yeah. so what really struck me is that they get they get calls from the commanding officer out in the field and they say that one of their men or women, it's not getting any letters. they're not getting care packages. so as soon as they hear that the

blue star moms are right on it and they send them the package. so it's really, really yeah, it really does make a difference for people who really are out there fighting hard and there's that sense of isolation and loneliness. a lot of time absolutely of their way from their families here we are celebrating with their families and they're out fighting for us. and if if we can really take some time to appreciate what they do and then donate, donate, donate because they really rely on the donations. yes, and the organization again. so people know it's blue star moms and their website. it's blue star moms dot org. and then from there, you can actually go to other sites. if if there's one closer to you, they do do porch pickups. so if that works better for you, because a drop-off site is in danville at coldwell the cold? well, yes, coldwell delivery at 6,
