got a live preview of what's expected to be another enchanted evening. >> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> warning, thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. it is saturday, july the 29th and is expected to be another warm day for us here in the bay area. >> let's check in now with dave spahr a day. >> hey, stephanie, good morning. and good morning, we're looking kind of a calm day relative today compared to tomorrow. we're going to turn that up to mid-nineties for some of the inland valleys. so we'll be hot weekend, though. but for today, we're take a little bit of a break on this is still going to be very summer-like and we're dealing with some of that fog this morning at first light it's covering over the east bay shoreline a little bit, but you can see how it's starting to mix out there. so you'll notice of the shots. all right. a current winds little bit of an onshore wind calm, single-digit zone a little bit there picks up a little bit around sullivan county, but most readings in the 50's for

right now, couple 60's poking out there, for example, antioch and also conquered 58. meanwhile, for san jose, the contrast from yesterday pretty close to actually trailing a couple degrees here. and they're now a little bit ahead of the ball game and the satellite picture keeps continues to keep that monsoon moisture back in the 4 corner states. a little bit of the south california desert, a little bit there. but for the most part, not a player at all. and doesn't appear to be one at all? 4 this weekend. so break it down for you straight. sunshine looks like about 76 or so by 11 o'clock at 2 o'clock. how about this in the 80's, although i think we'll still see some 90's looking for a little bit of a bump on those temperatures tomorrow and next week might see some of those monsoon clouds hanging around. we'll have more, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> happening tonight, fans once again gather in santa clara to see taylor swift live at levi stadium. and that's where we find kron four's tiffany tiffany in the blank space for us. any fans out there

>> yes, there are fans out here this morning. you know, the concerts at 6 o'clock tonight, but it's not stopping the fans from waking up early and getting in line to purchase a mix collusive merchandise. they are gathered right behind us. there's a few of them have a good handful of fans out here this morning. they arrived ready to go and to wait with their chairs, their blankets, coffee and some they also set up to have it more organized today. officials they have lined up everything today yesterday was kind of sprawled out across the parking lot. so today this area has its own little created space. >> the first concert was actually last night. swift is in town for her heirs tore yesterday. and today we're hearing most people are willing to wait in these long lines because they're not wanting to miss a second of the show. and a lot of this merchandise that they're selling here can only be brought here. so today it's going to be another busy day

in and around levi stadium. parking will open at 02:00pm. gates will open at 4.30. the concert is scheduled to begin at 6.30, with-with usually taking to the stage around 8 o'clock. swift is expected to perform a 45 song set list which will last more than 3 hours. fans are strongly being encouraged to take public transportation with several agencies stepping up their services like capitol corridor offering and adjust its schedule to accommodate all northern california. concertgoers caltrain will offer an additional post event train on both days as well. and the santa clara valley transportation authority is offering 30% more light rail trains for the show tonight. vta actually tweeting that after the concert last night they had 25,000 passengers using their public transportation smashing their ridership record. and there's also some limitations as to what you can bring inside as well to the levi stadium. only

small clutch bags. no larger than 4 and a half by 6 and a half inches. so a lot of limitations on what you can bring but we'll keep you updated out here at the stadium. state officials are also asking people to refrain from tailgating. stephanie, back to you. all right, tiffany, thank you so much for that. and we hope you get lots of friendship bracelets while you're out there. >> and a san francisco woman lost her car after a fire started at a homeless encampment nearby and destroyed it kron four's. dan thorn spoke with the car owner who is blaming city leaders. >> you've got a hose, a fire from a homeless encampment breaks out in opa wednesday night. the flames rapidly spreading from a 10th to a toyota prius parked on the street. neighbors quickly sprang to action to help firefighters put out the fire. but it wasn't enough to save the car is heartbreaking. it makes me angry and >> clearly city hall is not.

making a dent in the issue. the car's owner, linda posts age has lived in the neighborhood for the past 2 years. she says with a car fire happened on central and fell. >> people live in tents on the sidewalks. she says her interactions with those people are usually cordial despite what happened to her she's pointing the finger at city leaders instead of the person who was responsible for starting it. it's an out come of a larger problem, which is there is not. sufficient. housing for folks that need it posts age believes ending the covid era homeless hotel shelter programs last december is just one example of city leaders failing to help the unhoused the office of district. 5 supervisor. dean preston sent a statement to kron 4 saying our office is deeply concerned to learn about a fire at felon central on wednesday evening. we are working with the department of homelessness and supportive housing to address encampments

in the neighborhood. earlier this week. mayor london breed signed a budget with a goal of cutting homelessness in half over the next 5 years. post sage says losing her car is a big financial hit, but fires from homeless encampments can be solved through action. this incident that happened in my personal life just reinforces my. sense helping and finding a way. >> and that was kron four's. dan thorn reporting for us this morning. investigators say no one was hurt when the fire broke out and the cause is still under investigation. police in oakland are investigating 2 separate shootings. the most recent happening around 10, 30 last night on 83rd avenue just west of international boulevard. this is video of the scene from the citizen app. police say one person was shot 3 others suffered cuts. meanwhile, the first shooting happened in the area of 19th street and broadway just before 8.30, last night. this is video of the area from the citizen app. police say one person was shot the victim

told officers he did not know where the shots came from. bicyclist is dead after being hit by a truck on commerce boulevard in rohnert park. it happened around 12:40pm, friday afternoon on the 57,000 block. the bicyclist was traveling south on the east side of commerce boulevard when the pickup truck was making its way onto the northbound lane. that's when the collision happened. the driver of the truck remained on the scene. the bicyclist died at the hospital. the man accused of fatally stabbing cash out founder bob lee in san francisco was set to be in court next week. preliminary hearing starts today for a rather starts monday for many police arrested him 8 days after lee was found stabbed to death. this happened in san francisco's rincon neighborhood back in april. police say the 2 men knew each other prior to the stabbing. lee had allegedly been hanging out many sister which led to an argument between the 2 men

back in may. pled not guilty to lee's murder. he is being held without bail. a pacific up man faces murder charges after investigators say he stabbed a woman to death and then posted a video of that attack on facebook. four's dan kerman has more on what's next for the suspect. >> 39 year-old mark mentioned cough made his first court appearance friday but didn't enter a plea to the charge. he murdered clara belle astray a wednesday afternoon in a san mateo apartment. we know that he stabbed her are victim to death with multiple stab wounds. we know that while she was on the ground and still alive, still moving a little bit, we don't know to what degree he filmed and posted on his facebook account. san mateo county district attorney steve wagstaffe says a friend of mencia cough spotted the video on facebook and contacted authorities. they ping the number associated with the facebook account leading san mateo police to an

apartment complex on 36th avenue after a 3 hour door to door search. the woman was found dead in one of the units. hours later, metric office arrested in the south bay to horrific crime. it's aggravated by putting it on facebook. that is the first time i've ever heard of anything like that. certainly it's never occurred in san mateo county. >> doing that to the victim. so there is a certain. he felt a certain pride that why somebody posts most things, that they feel pride in what they did steps as the defendant and the victim knew each other but says that this time they don't know the motive for the crime, but they do say mechikoff has a felony record in another state that coupled with the nature of this crime and the fact that he's lived in multiple states have them ask the court to hold, met a cough without bail. a judge agreed all that combine. it would be actually would have been a foolish decision to do anything other than no bail to ensure that he is kept here. and most importantly, that the public is safe staff won't go into details but said the defendant

worry. this will mix out. we'll get back to the blue skies and enjoyed yesterday and we will. >> again, for today to not bad and those temperatures. well, in that we're going to bump that up, though, for tomorrow. you'll see as we put this all together for you. so east bay shoreline, as we watch the fog kind of reposition itself here right above us. it's a little warmer and drier, typical inversion. 65 going on for antioch at this hour. 57 livermore mid-fifties line up the east bay shoreline. 54 santa rosa, lot of uniformity with temperatures to get things started. so lining everything up here for today. mostly sunny and nice by the standards of summer, ok near about 90 going well inland, 70's for the bay tomorrow. let's turn it up a little bit. sunny, warm inland. we could see those mid 90's return well inland with 70 still hanging on to the bay. scratching your about 80 in places like fremont out of the south. and then next week we're talking about scattered clouds middle of the week. this is what gets interesting here. looks like there's some of that monsoon trying to brush on by. that's going to be high levels of the atmosphere. but it looks like we're still getting that onshore flow. so that will be

a nice climate control to keep temperatures down. plus are coming off some of the daytime heating. it looks like there's no radar echoes with any of that in the mountains. my see some thunder showers fire off that again as middle of the week. we're kind of watching. all right. seeing the flow pattern with everything all contain pretty much in the 4 corner states. some of the cloud cover again will bubble up to central california going forward with future cast. again this afternoon might see the bubbling up in the mountains of some scattered clouds. here comes our marine layer overnight to join us again. fog mixes out same process again, that again, we'll get more interesting towards the middle of the week as some scattered clouds start to brush on by towards our direction today. 66 san francisco, 72 for oakland, 81 san jose. sunny and warmer. there you have about 90 or so for antioch. 89 for santa rosa. but some of these spots again, are going to be popping a little bit more. so tomorrow it looks like as we look for temperatures to climb a little bit more. so on your sunday and then into next week. interesting with some of those scattered clouds to watch out for again. we're take a look

at some of those longer range forecast models. again, kind of walk you through some of that looks like there's also heat dome developing towards the end of the week. stephanie. all right, dave, thank you so much for that update. >> and charges have been dropped against the 2 people arrested in connection to a crash in san francisco. surveillance video captured a stolen car plummeting down the sanchez street stairs last week. police arrested 2 suspects but on friday district attorney brooke jenkins office told kron 4 the pair has been discharged pending further investigation and witness availability. prosecutors could refile the charges at a later date. and video shows a burglar breaking into a san francisco restaurant. this is conch food early thursday morning. you can see that person taking money from the register there. the owner says to tablets and $100 were stolen and the cost to repair the door is around $500. the owner says this is the 7th break-in they've seen since the start of the covid pandemic. retail workers in

the bay area and across the country face a moral dilemma. they intervened during a theft and risk punishment from their employer or let the shoplifters get away with the merchandise news nation's nancy loo spoke with a woman who got fired. she says after getting punched in the face by shoplifters. >> shoplifters caught in the act, stealing hundreds of dollars in laundry detergent from a king soopers store in colorado. top items being stolen by individuals or by organized theft rings are nickel and dime ing stores to losses that are adding up to big bucks by 2025, the retail industry says losses will total 115 billion dollars. businesses are investing in more security staff and security cameras even tagging more items with sensors and putting more items behind lock and key. one thing they don't want is employees becoming crime. fighters note here the issue. grab headlines after these 2 lululemon employees

complaint and launched an investigation into giant x symbol. >> and they called it puppy love. robotic dogs cheered up young patients at lucile packard children's hospital in palo alto friday. >> a stanford university engineering team designed these pupper robots as they call them the students 3 d printed parts to create 30 puppies. they partnered up with the stanford cherry a program which works to calm down patients during medical procedures. it's so cute. 3, the warm as little hats there. the hospital also works with real dogs, but they are always available. so these robots offer a fun alternative. >> definitely less maintenance for sure. there hypo allergenic. you ask feed them take them out to use the facilities. and so basically there. they're they're just low maintenance at that would be at any time of night.

>> bart officials are pushing back against a state bill that would stop jailing people for skipping the fair on public transit right now, people could spend up to 90 days in jail for failing to pay their fair 3 or more times if the bill becomes law, the maximum punishment would be a fine of $400. bart argues the move would worsen, train safety and make it more difficult to

>> all right. now on the kron 4 morning news. a call for help in oakland. what communities are asking city city leaders to do to help increase public safety. and it is night 2 of the era's tour in swifty, clara. we are live with the latest out in the south bay as fans head out to levi stadium. good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. let's start off this half hour with a look at our forecast dave way here. but it's going to pretty warm today. >> well, bore looking for a bigger, warm up happening tomorrow and just taking a little bit of a break today. compare those numbers tomorrow and then into next week, going

to kind of interesting with some of that monsoon cloud cover kind of oversee little bit there. but we do have a little bit insulation with a good onshore flow. keep those temperatures, the surface down to. so cloud cover really fog. but here's a shot from the sutro camera. give you an idea. this fog that has to mix out before we open things up for the general bay. but that's okay. it's a nice cooling mechanism. look at all those temperatures. mostly in the 50's. couple exceptions that we have look at. 69 60 san carlos and about a 60 going on for concord at ballpark today with the giants to battle against the red sox for 15. we'll see temperatures at about 60 with that fog rolling on in late. you got a breezy, a chilly breeze working with this to the west about 15. so coming in from the east bay. remember wearing that sweater covid? it's going to chilly. got 76 win 11 by 2 at 86. and again, a lot of readings will be in the 80's. we'll have that in the 4 zone forecast. but as we get into tomorrow, looks like a more 90's working in here into monday, too. but again, next

and communities in oakland are asking city leaders to declare a state of emergency as kron four's haaziq madyun reports. they say their city is in a full-blown public safety crisis. >> deadly shootings, home invasions, carjackings. i know legal side businesses robbed at gun being used to rob an 80 year-old ice cream. the as you can see on this map, these crimes are happening throughout the city of oakland. you guys are out there in east oakland. talk about what you hear from families out there. >> when the police tell you to sure up your front door and your back door to make sure the ones that are committing home invasions will have a heart attack your front door down. you better know the cities and drop. >> that call fo help is the focus of an urgent letter from oakland naacp president cynthia adams and acts full gospel church is bishop bob jackson to oakland and alameda

county elected leaders to unite and declare a state of emergency to end what this letter describes as oakland's public safety crisis we need citywide. >> meeting with the leaders in the powers that to come together and talk about how we go about devising a plan, how bait these problems that we've been suffering for way too long in the city will. >> bishop jackson says the call is being made for leaders to acknowledge and declare a public state of emergency seek assistance from california. alameda county, another state law enforcement and provide job training. so you will have alternatives to crime. according to the letter failed leadership, including the movement to defund police and the district attorneys on willingness to charge and prosecute people who murder and commit life-threatening. serious crimes created a heyday for oakland criminals. in response, the alameda county district attorney's office sent kron 4 a statement that reads, quote, we are

disappointed that a great african-american pastor and great african-american organization would take a false narrative on such an important matter. we expect more from bishop bob jackson and the oakland chapter of the naacp, unquote. however, i spoke by phone to oakland, naacp president cynthia adams, who says no one is being singled out. everyone only get >> we're not seeing to one even including we all need to come together and it says was a crisis. >> kron 4 reached out to oakland, mayor sheng thao and the oakland police department was standing by with their replies. >> people in oakland demanding justice for stephen taylor who was shot and killed by san leandro police officer in 2020. police say taylor was caught shoplifting at a walmart. taylor's family says he was suffering a mental health crisis when the

shooting happened, the officer involved was charged with voluntary manslaughter and is no longer with the police department. a person and a dog are dead after a house fire in san pablo. that happened friday afternoon at a home on dover avenue near saint paul catholic church crews say they found the victim unresponsive. that person was taken to the hospital where they later died. no word yet on what caused the fire. a car went up in flames after a crash in calistoga early friday morning. police arrested the driver they believe was under the influence. officers say fire crews were able to put out the blaze before it spread could spread towards a nearby house. no one was hurt. oakland mayor sheng thao will spend the next week overseas. she's traveling to vietnam along with other local elected and business leaders too. talk about expanding trade opportunities with the port of oakland. that delegation will also visit oakland, sister city don in vietnam for a

2 cars collided around one 15 this morning near the el monte road off-ramp. chp says a wrong-way driver in a honda civic crashed into a toyota avalon both passengers on board the honda civic died. the cause is under investigation. and the man accused of fatally stabbing cash at founder bob lee in san francisco is set to be in court next week. a preliminary hearing starts monday for many police arrested him 8 days after lee was found stabbed to death. this happened in san francisco's rincon hill neighborhood back in april. police say the 2 men knew each other prior to the stabbing. lee had allegedly been hanging out many sister which led to argument between the 2 men back in may. pled not guilty to lee's murder. he is being held without bail. pacific. a man faces murder charges after investigators say he stabbed a woman to death and then posted a video of the attack on facebook. kron four's dan

kerman has more on what's next for the suspect. >> 39 year-old mark mentioned cough made his first court appearance friday but didn't enter a plea to the charge. he murdered clara belle astray a wednesday afternoon in a san mateo apartment. we know that he stabbed her are victim to death with multiple stab wounds. we know that while she was on the ground and still alive, still moving a little bit, we don't know to what degree he filmed and posted on his facebook account. san mateo county district attorney steve wagstaffe says a friend of mencia cough spotted the video on facebook and contacted authorities. they ping the number associated with the facebook account leading san mateo police to an apartment complex on 36th avenue after a 3 hour door to door search. the woman was found dead in one of the units hours later, metric office arrested in the south bay. a horrific crime. it's aggravated by putting it on facebook. that is the first

time i've ever heard of anything like that. certainly it's never occurred in san mateo county. >> and doing that to the victim. so there is a certain he felt a certain pride that why somebody posts most things, that they feel pride in what they did, steps as the defendant and the victim knew each other but says that this time they don't know the motive for the crime, but they do say metta cop has a felony record in another state that coupled with the nature of this crime and the fact that he's lived in multiple states have them ask the court to hold, met a cough without bail. a judge agreed all that combine. it would be actually would have been a foolish decision to do anything other than no bail to ensure that he is kept here. and most importantly that the public is safe. staff won't go into details but said the defendant has given the lengthy statements to law enforcement. friday's hearing was continued. so the court can assign mechikoff an attorney again mention cobb did not enter a plea. he's due back in court next friday at the hall of justice in redwood city. dan kerman kron. 4 news.

francisco's rincon hill neighborhood back in april. police say the 2 men knew each other before the stabbing lee had allegedly been hanging out many sister, which led to an argument between the 2 men back in may when many pled not guilty to lee's murder, he is being held without bail. the civic. a man faces murder charges after investigators say he stabbed a woman to death and then posted a video of the attack on facebook. kron four's dan kerman has more on what's next for the suspect. >> 39 year-old mark mentioned cough made his first court appearance friday but didn't enter a plea to the charge. he murdered clara belle stray a wednesday afternoon in a san mateo apartment. we know that he stabbed her are victim to death with multiple stab wounds. we know that while she was on the ground and still alive, still moving a little bit, we don't know to what degree he filmed and posted on his facebook account. san

mateo county district attorney steve wagstaffe says a friend of mencia cough spotted the video on facebook and contacted authorities. they ping the number associated with the facebook account leading san mateo police to an apartment complex on 36th avenue after a 3 hour door to door search. the woman was found dead in one of the units. hours later, metric office arrested in the south bay to horrific crime. it's aggravated by putting it on facebook. that is the first time i've ever heard of anything like that. certainly it's never occurred in san mateo county. >> doing that to the victim. so there is a certain he felt a certain pride that why somebody posts most things that they feel pride in what they did steps as the defendant and the victim knew each other but says that this time they don't know the motive for the crime, but they do say metta cop has a felony record in another state that coupled with the nature of this crime and the fact that he's lived in multiple states have them ask the court to hold without bail. a judge agreed all that combine. it

temperatures thus far. we're at 73 for any at this hour now. warming up a little bit inland. most of the readings in the east bay, however, holding in the 60's for right now up to the north bay, kind of a mixture of some 50's and some 60's working in here. 65 for san jose. and again, a lot of 60's going on for the peninsula. alright, for today, we've got mostly sunny and nice. a reminder it's still summer. so those temperatures will be warm and of july like this. but near about 90 inland 70's for the bay. now it's bumping up a little bit for tomorrow a look at some, maybe some middle 90's popping up here a little bit. so hot inland, sunny and warm as help with the fight. it was still a lot of 70's for the east bay shoreline, maybe even some upper 60's. hang on just a little bit. then into next week, some scattered clouds in the middle of the week. here we're on the western edge of this high pressure. so that's throwing off this subtropical moisture a little bit our way that can always be a little instability, although it doesn't look like anything's happening with it. now in the flow pattern at the surface being on shore. that helps out keep those temperatures down. you'll see that in the seven-dorack to the 80's, there

organization? yeah, it's a really rough time in the rescue world. the shelters are saying, just a such a high number of animals being surrendered and dropped some of the shelters are booked way past capacity like one of shelters that we work with out of fresno, they're they're set up for maybe 250 animals and they can have up to, you know, the 400 to 600 animals coming in, you know, like at a time. so we stepped in to try and and and help with know, to to save these animals lives. and it's just you we've saving placing about 80 animals a that's, you know, we've taking in 25 to 30 a week. so it's it's a of you know, we're all volunteers. so, know. well, thank you so much for the hard work that you're doing with placing these wonderful animals into loving homes. and what is driving this uptick?

you saying i know it's so hard to know. i think that people really you know, the whole world u.s. pretty frayed, you know, coming out of pandemic, people didn't. they're uncertain. they didn't really know. um, you know what their future was going to look like. and i think that now the people are solidly back to work and traveling maybe animals are being surrendered. you know, i'm also the lack of ability get spay neuter people having accidental you know, just >> stray animals. you know, i f know how people can help. you have an event that's actually going to be really fun. on monday. we're going to be at pops in san francisco as historic, you know, it's going to be a lot of fun. we're going to what you can talk a little bit about that. so i'm putting on and it's going to be pop star. its own next event is on monday from one to 4, a and i'm super excited

because not only will be have a dogs for adoption, but we're going to do a fundraiser and not only that, but the whole community has really shown up and shown we're doing a huge raffle. >> and it's from. you know, people from mission skate. we have free food. we have free drinks safe and everything is donated to rocket dog rescue. we're doing it. pop star pops has been open for over 100 years. so that's very rare in in san and i'm just so excited to have dogs like, like here and here, you be there. we're going to have a lot of fun and all you have to do is show up and have have, you some free food and drink and pets dogs opting. yeah, it's a great opportunity save some lives and also support a historic business in the bay area. 100%. and i'm just so thankful that pops is able to donate

their facility. and we're going have a lot of fun. you know, you mentioned available dogs for adoption. so tell us about these 2. well, you know, because we have a 24 hour helpline and we're we're often called upon for trauma cases. >> so we get these little said, guys, this beautiful baby is in curtis. well, ok? we're looking at the wrong so this little shepherd puppies named curtis, was found he had shot more than 10 times with the bees losing his you know. it's i don't it's just very sad. but he is. he is a very he's like. absolutely loving and yeah, you know, he doesn't even you know, he's ready to let go of that trauma and move forward into his bright. yeah, i absolute polo curtis started. this is just the cutest and so

well behaved and very ready for his. you know, if if his his moment in the in the spotlight on camera and how will the sea about form and about 4? okay. you know, he's already been through a lot in his little life, but he's he went on the script. yeah. so our anchor dog as and how about our friend over here? well, this little i we named him trout because we didn't know his name. he was one of the dogs that was left behind when i'm a family was evicted the eye. we were called because the dogs have been locked out enough. a very hot yard in stockton for for a few light over 2 weeks in the blazing hot weather. you know, adding that heat wave. so they were left out when the family was evicted in the landlord had to lock the doors and neighbors are coming into the yard and giving them water. >> but we were able to to get them he's too. but he's found a home. but he's still waiting. he's about 4 years
