>> good >> morning. thank you for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. it is saturday august the 5th and we're covering a lot of different headlines for you today, including this body cam footage released of a suspect or rather of officer-involved shooting. let's go ahead and get started with your weather with dave sphar. good morning. >> good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and we're off to another kind of heat spike hot weekend at work today is kind of a work in progress. and then tomorrow is when you're really going to feel it. if you've got those activities kind of strenuous to do watching the middle of the day, and you probably particularly inland you don't want to do in for tomorrow. give yourself a bit of a break. so today's the day, when take advantage of it in early or late in the day to as well. so the scenario we have right now is that morning fog is making its appearance across much of the bay. again, that will mix out for mostly sunny skies as we get to the later morning hours. even in san francisco, you can see it kind of hovering above us a little bit temperature. check for you, though. we are in the 60's over good chunk of the east bay at this hour now, 60

san jose pair phase. meanwhile, san francisco in up in the north bay, there, the bottle with 50, 50 for coming in for santa rosa. quick contrast for you. were trailing in a couple places or a little ahead, but close to this performance from yesterday. nothing interfering from us. in fact, it's the high pressure in the southwest. that's going to start to build on. this will give us that little dome of heat for today for this weekend. somebody 8.11, o'clock by 2. we're talking 91, but into tomorrow we might be able to better do those triple digits and get to around near some selective spots. well, no heat advisory has been posted with all of this, but it will be a hot weekend. still have more on that forecast and a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> caltrain's this week they reported their 7th fatality of the year. it happened around 7.30, last night when a train fatally struck someone a tunnel for between san francisco's 22nd street and bayshore stations. no injuries were reported involving anyone on board that train. the tracks were cleared by 10, 30 last night. and police on

friday released body cam video showing a fatal shooting. that incident happened last week in the city's bayview district. police say the man who died was armed with a gun prof was ella sogomonian reports. >> sfpd released body camera video of a police officer's. they shot down. 41 year-old bryant bluford. they say he was pacing around and stepping up to officers demanding that they like over suspect. they arrested with an outstanding warrant. but for scene with a hand on a gun in his waistband after officers asked dozens of times for him to lift up his hands. he instead reaches for the firearm and pointed at them and it's not against the law walk across the street questions or yell profanities, whatever. >> threats. to kill people to kill police officers gripping a handgun after you make that threat pointing a handgun at a

police officer is against the law and it's a life-threatening situations after blue for the shot down, officers approached him to give him cpr. >> the notice of 45 caliber light-coloured gun at his side. that sfpd says was loaded with one round along with the magazine that had 10 rounds in it. police chief bill scott called this loss of life a tragedy and made sure to note that the presentation wasn't the last word on the outcome. >> and that was kron four's. ella sogomonian reporting for us this morning. the investigation into this case is still ongoing. anyone with information is asked to call the sfpd tip line or text a tip to tip 4, 1, 1, in the south bay. what started as a welfare check is now being investigated as a double homicide in san jose officers responded to a call park more avenue around 10 o'clock friday morning. they found 2 people dead at a home. this is video from the scene. the cause of death is under investigation. these mark these mark, the twin cities

23rd and 24th homicides of the year. and residents a san pablo neighborhood can now go home after they were forced to evacuate due to the discovery of hazardous chemicals. this morning, crews finished removing those materials from the shed. this is picture shared by police on friday. it all started after a man cleaning the home of a family member who recently died smelled a strange odor and discovered that shed full of chemicals. more than 100 homes had to be evacuated. >> this is still my city. i love the city. grew up here. i can see this place just deteriorate. >> and that's a frustrated shop owner. you just they run business in san francisco's tenderloin district and they're raising concerns about open air drug use in the city. and this all coming as the local sheriff's office shared these images of a drug seizure wednesday. officers say they've arrested the suspected dealer involved. it's part of a joint effort with city police to crack down on drugs in the area.

>> it's unsafe. you can't walk around. there's open air drug market everywhere. i do see the chp. patrolling they're pushing on from one block to the other. there's just there's moving them around. >> and law enforcement leaders heard some of that frustration from people at a recent tenderloin public safety town hall thursday. the sheriff's office shoring the public. they're doing everything they can to make sure families feel safe. police in oakley arrested a student after they say he brought a gun to the parking lot of freedom. high school. this happened on thursday. officers say the student was involved in a fight after educators called police. they found a gun in his car. and fans plan to hold another rally during the bay bridge series with the giants this afternoon. kron four's gayle ong spoke with one of the organizers of today's rout. >> oakland a's fans at the last bay bridge series game in july saying no to las vegas. right now we're doing what we

event starts today at 9 o'clock this morning and will go until 12 30. and here is some video from last year's event. the contest is being held on the shores of linda mar beach here in pacifica. this event has grabbed attention from all over the world from australia to the uk and according to organizers right here in the bay area is where the dog surfing competition concept originated. the event is free to spectating. visitors can watch dog surfers from across the nation compete for awards today. there will also be some vendors and other activities to ensoy out here. and the proceeds from the event will go to k 9 related non profits. a surfing competition starts at 9, but the city's will go for pretty much all day today until 07:00pm from 10 to 2. there is a pet wellness fair. you can bring your dog. get your dog checked out. and they even say you can ask questions if you have them, there's going to be a mobile pet adoption service here as well from 09:00pm to 02:00pm at a fashion show from noon to

bear. i don't want to bear to be put down there's a natural habitat. >> we're a bear can go and live that's that's the kind of thing we want. >> mountain lion was spotted friday morning and yeah, out ville. this video was taken near jefferson and madison streets at 06:00am. town officials say that the sightings are rare and mountain lions are native to the area. now, these kept big cats. ida sightings were also reported earlier this week in neighboring sonoma county, including in petaluma cotati and rohnert park. let's get a look outside at the weather conditions happening right now. this is a live look at the bay bridge. just a little bit hazy out there or perhaps that's the. >> thick fog will check in with dave to get some more details on all but a day. well, good morning, stephanie. good morning. everybody says some of that fog has to mix out. it will be sunny for it may be along the coast as a little stubborn and sometimes hard to do. but for the most part, you should see there it is in downtown san francisco going on. >> as it starts, its mixing process is fairly thin for

this weekend. there's the high pressure developing and the southwest here for us. that will be our story as we head into particularly tomorrow. and then it's only short-lived middle of the week. it will start too collapse a little bit and we'll get a little trough to help us out. temperature wise, 68 antioch at this hour, 60 conquered and hayward. but we do have some upper 50's out there, too. 54 for santa rosa. 55 san francisco and also half moon bay. so the game plan is this. this is the east bay shoreline shot. and you can see those clear skies above. but that's our future. and just this fog this little morning event, mostly sunny and warm, hot inland 90's happening inland 70's and 80's covered the bay. let's bump that up a little bit. 100 plus expected in some of those selective spots might even raced 105, potentially. and then for next week cooling and you'll notice that probably on tuesday, wednesday, the 2 big days. it will be a big drop. the folks inland from monday into tuesday. so let's hand it over to future cast for that morning. fog mixes out both here in monterrey, most

locations will get a little stubborn along the coast. golden gate. just a touch me taken into the afternoon. same process again by sunday afternoon. we approach about 1 o'clock or so you get your afternoon and evening breeze occurring because of all that inland heating tends to drive that further upstream as we get to tuesday wednesday, there are some clouds and bubble a bubble up a little bit. but the bigger issue for us will be the cool. the temps 70's, san francisco, 77 covering for oakland and 85 for san jose. it's pretty good for the game today. 2 of this evening, 97 for any act. looks like concord also at 97. again, we'll probably see triple digits tomorrow. 95 for livermore. we've got 70's and 80's already lining up the east bay shoreline toasting 94 up there to santa rosa next couple of days gets crowded on your sunday by monday. 95. but it will do a better term by tuesday. much cooler by that time, ok? so i look forward to that cool. yeah. but by tomorrow, don't do anything crazy like 12 1 o'clock and whatever. just relax. take it easy yeah.

>> that will be indoors for most of hopefully. thank you so much, dave. all right. well, fire crews continue to make progress on a brush fire that scorched 68 acres so far in santa clara county. >> the clayton fire is 80% contained this morning. it broke out thursday afternoon at clayton road and viet de la vista just east san jose and crews in haypard responded to a fire friday afternoon near cal state east bay campus. the blaze started off the southwest portion of the campus on westview way and harder road. the fire has been contained. no word yet on any structure damage. a historic bakery in san francisco's north beach is forced to close down for a week after a fire friday morning. it happened at la gloria bakery on stockton street. the owner tells us the blaze started in a brick oven more than 100 years old. and we're in county inspectors say safeway has been overcharging customers at several local stores as, quote, forced

recessed also reports it's a problem. inspectors say was made worse by the pandemic. >> during a year and a half period, marine county officials say inspectors discovered safeway stores overcharge consumers at several locations, including the store at town center in corte madera. they found commodities where there were significant overcharges, their shampoo. there's toilet paper. there's produce. you can get all these items. so >> if the problem is truly that, you know, the shelf prices are being updated in the timely fashion, that any of those items are fair game. >> scott, ways of marin county agriculture, weights and measures says california laws states during an inspection. 99% of items tested must be correctly priced and check out. but that is not what they are finding. not only at safeway but at other stores using barcodes county wide. >> we've seen the overall passing rate dropped from 78%

pre-covid to 58% post covid. and there's a lot that goes into obviously such as you know, store culture, much more just finding good people to do. the work very challenging. so we have a busy with the businesses, but there's still that requirement to consume pricing. >> the accurate and there's no ongoing consumer harm in the work place. back in 2014 safeway stores statewide were caught and fined 2.2, 5 million for overcharging customers. >> why says stores corrected their errors this time and signs were not issued. however, he does have some advice for the shopping public alert. consumers are the best defense right against inaccurate transactions. if you do feel like you've been overcharged, keep your receipt and contact your local weights and measures. now in marin county, we had all the red counties stores, but san francisco, sonoma county, bexar county has their which measures in each weights and

measures has a county jurisdictions. >> kron 4 reached out to out bertans who owns safeway stores in an email. they said, quote, safely take such claim seriously and is investigating the matter and quote, in marin county, theresa kron, 4 news. >> diocese of san francisco says it will likely file for bankruptcy because of child abuse claims roughly 100 claims have been settled for about 68 million dollars. if the diocese goes bankrupt, it will be the 3rd in the bay area to do so. oakland and santa rosa both filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. the diocese there. and still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, a new bill could help ease california's sky-high rent problems. >> the reaction from supporters and opponents of that measure. a measure to

allow greater rent control in california has officially been added to the november 2024 ballot. >> it seeks to repeal a state law that restricted local governments from placing rent controls on single-family homes and apartment. that law also allowed landlords to increase rents as much as they like. once a tenant has moved out. >> we need rent control because people are having trouble paying it. so seniors on a fixed theywho work target. hotel workers they are having a lot of trouble making the >> the california apartment association, a landlord

weekend. let's check in with dave on all of that paid. >> stephanie, good morning, everybody. we're going to see those 90's return well inland. and even papa to 100 plus for your sunday. it looks like in some of those hot areas in contra costa county. also little solano county as well. but for today, let's just ease into its going to be plenty toasty well inland as well. yes, east bay shoreline numbers kind of a mixture of 70's and 80's. first things. first, though, we're taking care of some of that morning fog. it's still with us. as you can see, downtown shot gives you an idea of it just kind of a little meandering around lingering over out of touch. lot of 60 still in the east bay. we can see 58 going on for livermore up to the north bay hodgepodge of 50's and 60's. 55, san francisco and also for half moon bay. that's where some of the stubborn fog will remain. well, the oakland a's host the giants. they're going fly over to the east bay today, 407, a game time with those temperatures in the mid 60's. mostly sunny and cool. we'll call it so little climate changes are coming in from the

east bay with temperatures the middle to lower 60's. as you go into the night, 78, 11 o'clock by 2. we're calking 91 again, we're going to put those numbers into octane as we pump be on 100 again, a one-day event and then improving into next week and a little break of summer. looks like for us. we'll have more details on that extended forecast and check out your 4 zone to stephanie. thank you. happening today, the oakland police commission host 2 community meetings on their search for a new police chief. >> that first session starts at 10:30am. at the golden gate branch library on san pablo avenue. >> the second starts at 3 this afternoon at the chavez branch library on east 12th street. and we're learning more about the man arrested by the fbi accused of kidnapping and locking up a seattle woman in his garage. the suspect is tied to a series of crimes here in the bay area. kron four's dan kerman has a look at that man's record. >> the guys use of areas the oregon man, federal prosecutors have charged with kidnapping, chaining and sexually assaulting a seattle

woman. prosecutors say the victim ultimately escaped from a cinder block jail cell and sue berries, garage and contacted authorities leading to his arrest. now it turns out the suspect also known as justin hice has a violent criminal past in the bay are court documents indicate in 2020 hice was charged with forcible rape of a minor in oakland with a special allegation that he also kidnapped the victim. a police report indicates in addition to having he also punched the victim before dragging her out of his car. he eventually pleaded no contest to a lesser charge assault with a deadly weapon. and the other charges were dismissed. hi, ended up serving just 56 days in jail and was put on probation. prior to that in 2016. hi, she was 22 at the time was charged with 2 crimes for allegedly having with a 16 year-old newark junior high school student. he ended up pleading no contest to unlawful

intercourse and served 60 days in the alameda county jail. and in 2013 he was charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling in oakland. but the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. authorities believe heist was in the bay area from 2012 to 2021 and they believe there may be other victims. they're asking anybody who might be a victim to come forward. >> dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> the santa clara county sheriff's office faces accusations this morning of mistreating a muslim woman in their custody. the council on american islamic relations claims dlputies yanked off the woman's headscarf while booking her into a correctional facility in milpitas. members say that's a violation of the woman's religious beliefs and constitutional rights. and that group is demanding a public apology and a settlement. all this at the sheriff's office says it has reviewed the surveillance video and that force was not used. happening right now. eastbound i-80 is closed between highway 4 hercules and cummings. skyway in crockett.

that road is closed while crews work on a paving project. and this is video from that same stretch of road last month when crews started that project, the vote is expected to reopen at 5 o'clock monday morning. for your health state. health officials are warning about valley fever. they say a combination of heavy winter rains following severe drought conditions throughout the state has increased the growth of a fungus that causes this illness. it can be spread anywhere. and the bay area's no exception. that illness is similar to a common cold or flu. but the symptoms seem to last longer. experts say. >> sometimes it can take one to 3 weeks sometimes longer before you actually have symptoms. so we might not actually see getting sick in till later in the summer or early fall. >> the disease can easily be treated with antifungal medications, some doctors say and they say the disease only spreads through the air and not through person to person contact. and that's what

county officials are confirming west nile virus has been found in mosquitoes in calistoga. officials say the virus was found in mosquitoes collected on july 19th. no human cases of west nile virus have been reported yet in that county. the virus is transmitted to mosquitoes that feed on infected birds the office recommends avoiding being outdoors in the early morning and evening when mosquitoes are the most active. well, i'm in this year's deadly record storms. governor gavin newsom is taking action. he says he will help the state's long-term response and preparation for this upcoming winter. on friday, he signed an executive order to streamline levee repairs across our state as we approach the next what season that action according to newsom, will also enable the state to accelerate debris removal still left behind from the rainfall and floods earlier this year, executive order will narrow in on all impacted areas. and newsom

says a special focus will turn to levee repairs and debris clearing and the to larry lake bays in and along the salinas san joaquin haro and ventura rivers. san mateo police are looking for 3 people they say are connected to a string of burglaries. they released these images friday and say the burglars broke into 3 homes on palace verdes strive and to contour over and took on the role that drive. they happened in the middle of last month. the city police say they've arrested 2 people in connection to this break-in at a family-owned bike shop. surveillance video captured several men breaking into chain-reaction bicycles. that's on june first and taking off with bikes worth $50,000. police say joe guadalupe gomez and joe rivera of redwood city were arrested. officers believe there are more suspects involved in most of the stolen bikes are still missing. police in san diego are looking for a man who stole a bike and was caught playing with the victim's dog.

next for cal and stanford kron. 4 sports reporter kate rooney breaks it down for us. >> the once proud conference of champions is hanging on by a thread. it's been a chaotic week for the pac, 12 home to cal and stanford since the 19 ten's with word on friday that 5 more of the schools in the conference are on the way out after friday. the conference is officially down to the pact. 4, the ducks and huskies made it official. they have been accepted into the big 10 conference for the 2024 season. well, utah, arizona, an arizona state for granted admission to join colorado in the big 12. just a tough pill to swallow for sports fans to cheer for the teams in the pac. 12 as a number of longstanding rivalries will become a thing of the past. this wave of realignment leaves just 4 schools in the conference for the 2024 season, including our local members, allen stanford, their future remains up in the air. now, both released statements. and so did the pac 12, quote,

thousands of people in this industry and we take that very seriously. variety reporting that warner brothers discovery says the strike is save the company. more than 100 billion dollars during the 2nd quarter of this year. both sides have to come to the table. every strike is ultimately ended. usc professor stephen ross specializes in us laborer in power studies. he says there may be a specific reasons. studios and streamers are beginning to talk to the wga almost 100 days into the strike. most contracts that the studios and streaming services sign. with the have for issue which says in case of a strike. >> contracts can be canceled. and i i believe they're structured so that they can cancel certain things 30 days into strike 60 days and 90 days, soap or some of the the 90 day period gives them a chance to get rid of any

>> caltrain's will this week they reported their 7th fatality of the year. it happened around 7.30, last night when a train fatally struck someone at tunnel for between san francisco's 22nd street in bay shore stations. no injuries were reported involving anyone on board that train. the tracks were cleared by 10, 30 last night. police on friday released body cam video showing a fatal shooting. that incident happened last week and the city's bayview district. police say the man who died was armed with a gun. was the moeny. an explains. >> sfpd released body camera video of a police officer's. they shot down. 41 year-old bryant bluford. they say he was pacing around and stepping up to officers demanding that they like over suspect. they arrested with an outstanding warrant. for scene with a hand on a gun in his waistband after officers asked dozens of times for him to lift up his hands. he instead reaches for

city employees have finished voting on whether to authorize a strike. that vote had been going on for the last 3 days. they're demanding improved pay and benefits and are proposing pay hikes of up to 7%. the city is offering to pay hikes of up to 5%. i spoke with san jose mayor matt mahan how did though she asians are going from the city's perspective? for us to give more than a 5% raise will have to identify painful cuts. we have to reduce staffing and police and fire cut library hours or pay few roads. and these essential services that our residents also rely on. so we have to have a deal that's fair for everyone. >> we have a great workforce here. they deserve a raise. that's what we're offering them. i just don't see how we go beyond 5% without having to cut services, which is not a position in any of us want to be in. >> well, the mayor added the city has already reached a deal with several other bargaining groups. the results

>> welcome back kron. morning news. good morning, everybody. and live shot coming in it for you. from a half moon bay still got those overcast skies. this tends to be a stubborn area in the bay to get that fog cleared out for privacy afternoon. sunshine working in here. once we take care of this this morning, our temperature check obviously cool. 55 56, san francisco, most readings in the east bay of already pop into the 60's inland, even on the east bay shoreline. we're at 59 or 62 for hayward. 58 for santa rosa. the star of our weekend is going to be that high pressure cell. that's going to be way down here in the 4 corner states. it's going to migrate a bit towards the west, but it's positioning will not be the same as our other heat spike that really sent those numbers really

thursday afternoon at clayton road and via de la vista, east of san jose. and crews in hayward responded to a fire friday afternoon near cal state east bay campus. that blaze started off the southwest portion of the campus on westview way and harder road. the fire has been contained. no word yet on any structure damage. a historic bakeries. san francisco's north beach is forced to close down for a week after a friday fire. it happened la gloria bakery on stockton street. the owner tells us the blaze started in a brick oven more than 100 years old. the catholic diocese of san francisco says it will likely file for bankruptcy because of child abuse claims roughly 100 claims have been settled for about 68 million dollars. if the diocese does go bankrupt, it will be the 3rd in the bay area to do so. organizations in oakland and santa rosa all filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. and marion county inspectors say safely has been overcharging customers at

in his garage. the suspect is tied to a series of crimes here in the bay area. kron four's dan kerman has a look at his record. >> the guys use of areas, the oregon man, federal prosecutors have charged with kidnapping, chaining and sexually assaulting a seattle woman. prosecutors say the victim ultimately escaped from a cinder block jail cell and sue berries, garage and contacted authorities leading to his arrest. now it turns out the suspect also known as justin hyche has a violent criminal past in the bay area. court documents indicate in 2020 hice was charged with forcible rape of a minor in oakland with a special allegation that he also kidnapped the victim. a police report indicates in addition to having he also punched the victim before dragging her out of his car. he eventually pleaded no contest to a lesser charge assault with a deadly weapon. and the other charges were dismissed. hi, ended up

serving just 56 days in jail and was put on probation. prior to that in 2016. hi, she was 22 at the time was charged with 2 crimes for allegedly having with a 16 year-old newark junior high school student. he ended up pleading no contest to unlawful intercourse and served 60 days in the alameda county jail. and in 2013 he was charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling in oakland. but the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. authorities believe heist was in the bay area from 2012 to 2021 and they believe there may be other victims. they're asking anybody who might be a victim to come forward. >> dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> the santa clara county sheriff's office faces accusations this morning of mistreating a muslim woman in their custody. the council on american islamic relations claims deputies yanked off the woman's headscarf while booking her into a correctional facility in milpitas. members say thatos a

feel the big step downward as we have a cooling trend the next more on that forecast a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, looking forward to that. thank you. >> caltrain this week reported their 7th fatality of the year. it happened around 7.30, last night when a train fatally struck someone a tunnel for between san francisco's 22nd street and bayshore stations. no injuries were reported involving anyone on board that train. the tracks were cleared by 10, 30 last night. police on friday released body cam video showing a fatal shooting. that incident happened last week in the city's bayview district. police say the man who died was armed with a gun kron four's ella sogomonian reports. >> sfpd released body camera video of a police officer's. they shot down. 41 year-old bryant bluford. they say he was pacing around and stepping up to officers demanding that they like over suspect. they arrested with an outstanding warrant. but for scene with a

tip for 1, 1, in the south bay. what started as a welfare check is now being investigated as a double homicide in san jose officers responded to a call on park more avenue around 10 o'clock friday morning. they found 2 people dead at a home. this is video you're looking at now from the scene. the cause of death is under investigation. these mark the city's 23rd and 24th homicides of the year. residents. it is and public neighborhood can now go home after they were forced to evacuate due to he discove of hazardous materials. well, this morning crews finish removing those materials from a shed. this is an image shared by police on friday. it all started after a man cleaning the home of a family member who recently died smelled a strange owner from the property and discovered that shed full of chemicals more than 100 homes had to be evacuated. >> this is still my city. love the city. grew up here. i can see this place just deteriorate.

francisco to demand congressional action on immigration groups began to gather in both san jose and petaluma starting at 8 o'cloct. they plan to walk more than 40 miles over the weekend and meet at the federal building in san francisco on monday. the group is calling on congress to pass the registry bill demonstrators say would allow 8 million undocumented people to apply for legal permanent residency. and roughly 4500 jose city employees have finished voting on whether to authorize a strike. that vote had been going on for the last 3 days. they're demanding improved pay and benefits and are proposing pay hikes of up to 7%. the city is offering pay hikes of up to 5%. i spoke with san jose mayor matt mahan on how negotiations are going from the city's perspective for us to give more than a 5% raise will have to identify painful cuts. we have to reduce staffing and police and fire cut library hours or pay few roads. and these essential services that our residents

look at that man's record. >> the guys use of areas the oregon man, federal prosecutors have charged with kidnapping, chaining and sexually assaulting a seattle woman. prosecutors say the victim ultimately escaped from a cinder block jail cell and sue berries, garage and contacted authorities leading to his arrest. now it turns out the suspect also known as justin hyche has a violent criminal past in the bay area. court documents indicate in 2020 hice was charged with forcible rape of a minor in oakland with a special allegation that he also kidnapped the victim. a police report indicates in addition to having he also punched the victim before dragging her out of his car. he eventually pleaded no contest to a lesser charge assault with a deadly weapon. and the other charges were dismissed. hi, ended up serving just 56 days in jail and was put on probation. prior to that in 2016. hi, she

was 22 at the time was charged with 2 crimes for allegedly having with a 16 year-old newark junior high school student. he ended up pleading no contest to unlawful intercourse and served 60 days in the alameda county jail. and in 2013 he was charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling in oakland. but the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. authorities believe heist was in the bay area from 2012 to 2021 and they believe there may be other victims. they're asking anybody who might be a victim to come forward. >> well, the santa clara county sheriff's office faces accusations this morning of mistreating a muslim woman in their custody. the council of american islamic relations claims deputies yanked off the woman's headscarf while booking her into a correctional facility in milpitas members say that's a violation of the woman's religious beliefs and constitutional right. the sheriff's office says it reviewed surveillance video and that force was not used.

county officials say west nile virus has been found in mosquitoes in calistoga. no human cases reported yet in the county. the virus is transmitted to mosquitoes that feed on infected birds. the office recommends staying indoors in the early morning and evening when mosquitoes are most active. this week, governor newsom signed off on orders, supporters say will improve the state's response to severe winter weather on friday. newsom signed this executive order to streamline levee repairs across california as we approach the next wet season. newsom's office says the action will also allow the state to accelerate debris removal left behind from the rainfall and floods from earlier this year and larry lake bazan and along the salinas, san joaquin haro and ventura rivers. san mateo police are looking for 3 people they say are connected to a string of burglaries. officers released. these videos are out of these photos on friday. they say burglars

broke into 3 homes and palace over his drive and ticonderoga drive. it happened in the middle of last month. and city police say they've arrested 2 people in connection to this break-in at a family-owned bike shop surveillance video capturing several men forcing their way into chain-reaction bicycles back on june. 1st, the group took off with $50,000 worth of merchandise. police arrested 2 suspects. joe guadalupe gomez and joe rivera. redwood city officers believe that there are more people involved in this. the start of a new school year is just a few weeks away. and sunnyvale community services held a distribution event on friday to help parents and students get ready. the annual back-to-school distribution program is providing families with supply kits and gift cards that can be used to buy things like backpacks and shoes. the program is for low income families who might need help getting their kids ready for school. >> hopeful that. >> each child feels like they're excited, ready and
