>> difficult with tremendous amounts of challenges during morning and afternoon sessions saturday at the golden gate and chavez branches of the oakland public library. the oakland police commission asked residents what should be the highest priorities for the next police chief. >> what characteristics? background and experiences that person should possess and what elements of the next leaders track record will suggest they are fit for the job. mean we had a black that we all pretty much appreciate it. >> it's going to be hard for someone to come in to fill the shoes. mayor sheng thao fired former chief leronne armstrong in february for mishandling police misconduct investigations. >> interim chief darren allison has been leading the department since. it's a very important meetings. anything cleveland, coming up, the commission will host a virtual meeting wednesday night, followed by 2 in-person engagements next saturday morning and afternoon, the

first at the 81st avenue branch of the public library and the last at the west oakland branch commission, vice chair david jordan says the next chief needs to reflect the community. we can't do that without hearing what we think the community. not small pockets in the community last month the police commission which oversees the police department hired a consulting firm to help search for the next top cop. >> the commission says it will use the community's feedback to select finalists for the job, which the agency plans to present to mayor sheng thao by november oakland, philippe djegal all kron. 4 news in this community. health officials are investigating 2 recent deaths from legionnaires disease potentially linked to a richmond spa. >> on saturday, investigators confirm both people who died had visited zen day spa just >> days before they started showing symptoms. one person died thursday night and the other on friday morning, a 3rd

person who contracted the disease survived samples of the spud water are being tested in a lab. officials are encouraging anyone who may have visited send a spot to watch for symptoms. those can include shortness of breath, muscle aches and fever. while the creek police arrested this man, 35 year-old brandon double quad re. he's accused of 5 felony counts of rape. police say he may be connected to other assaults over the past several years. they are asking for other potential victims to come forward tips can be sent anonymously. that phone number is we will get that on your screen shortly. >> and happening right now, eastbound i-80 is closed between highway 4 in hercules and cummings. skyway in crockett. >> the road is closed while crews work on a paving project. and this is video from that same stretch of road last month when crews started the project. the road is expected to reopen at 5 monday morning. and for those taking

public transportation today, barr is single tracking on its yellow line between the concord and pleasant hill stations. and that means riders in the area should expect delays of up to 10 minutes. bart says this is so crews can remove trees in the area that might pose a hazard. the agency recommends san francisco bound riders start their trips at walnut creek. happening right now, immigrant rights advocates are marching to san francisco demanding congress pass a bill that would allow 8 million undocumented people to apply for legal permanent residency. well, it was tiffany justice live for us now in menlo park where marchers are gathering and it looks like so you have somebody set up to speak with us live as well to it. yes, we do have an organizer. this is a big effort that started yesterday. >> going on through the weekend. and joining us alive. isn't organizers organizer to tell us more about what's going on today and more about their of for. thank you so much for joining us this morning. you mind going into what is going on this morning?

not to grant expansion of services for autonomous cars and police in pleasant hill arrested a suspect accused of shoplifting. this happened at a kohl's on friday night just after 11:00pm. the suspect was booked and all merchandise return. police say they are partnering with local loss prevention groups to continue to crack down on shoplifting. and new this morning, heartbreak for team usa at the women's world cup. sweden eliminated the defending champions after beating the u.s. 5 to 4 on penalty kicks after a scoreless draw. the u.s. is trying to win an unprecedented 3rd straight title. this is the first time in history that team usa has been eliminated in the round of 16. and new this morning. elon musk says his potential in-person fight with meta ceo mark zuckerberg will be streamed on the social media site x formally known as twitter. the 2 tech billionaires appeared at least over social media to agree to a cage match in june

we don't have any statements now, but it will be a little bit of a heat pump will call it up here. this collection of cloud cover that's into early next week. that's going to start the winds changing. and hey, a nice improvement in forecast. you're like this week day forecast, hot, inland and warm for the bay. today. 100 plus 80's covered the bay early into the week. monday. it's still going to be pretty much the same for you, folks. well inland as you reach in the upper 90's, at least little bit of minor cooling for east bay shoreline. but later on, it's mild cold for the week. we're talking 80's well inland by tuesday, wednesday, late in the week, sunny to my old as we head into the weekend. i know we're kind of monitoring maybe a little bit of a heat pump coming our way into next weekend. but that may not be encroaching directly into the base. we might kind of look out on that again in the morning hours. we get this fog. we're going to do the same thing again for tomorrow. you'll see that familiar fog little in the way. some drizzle, maybe a bit more aggressive tomorrow morning that we're seeing today, but it still won't linger around very long and then towards the very end of this. look how

fda has issued a nationwide recall of organic a liquid probiotics. the affected products were sold by the company ozona organics and sold on amazon and in walmart

>> now on the kron 4 morning news. thousands of low income families in the peninsula got ready for the new school year. thanks to a backpack giveaway. we show you where this happened and another huge turnout at the bay bridge series as fay a's fans fought to keep their team in oakland. all right. good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. we'll bring you those stories in just a moment. but let's start off this half hour with a look at the forecast. we know it's going to be pretty hot in some parts of the bay area today that is going to do right to good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. probably the hottest day that we're going to see probably for about a week since a week and until for at least a week. so. >> we've got a nice cool down coming into next week. so this hang tight a little bit here is these temperatures get to about 100 plus will make up for it by the middle. here's a look at the golden gate bridge. just some hazy fog is left over. that's about it. at least the flag flapping little bit. we've got a good stiff onshore wind helping out a little bit temperature check

they'll be back for sunday's game against the giants and they will be waiving this yellow towel. >> reporting from oakland coliseum, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> and over 37,000 people attended that game. that's the most fans and an a's game this season. 27,000 people showed up for the team's first reverse boycott in june. and the police say they won't be able to respond to some house alarm calls because of limited staffing. in addition, they say about 90 8% of those types of calls end up not being an actual emergencies. so that furthering their decision now, officials say that they will continue to respond to manually activated panic alarms in silent robbery. alarms and a video alarms that show ongoing crimes. the department is also looking at response tactics to verified alarms. that's when an eyewitness or the alarm company can verify the blur burglary. the idea will be brought up in a town hall meeting next week. and new this morning, a man found suffering from gunshot wounds

in san francisco's bayview district has died. he was found in industrial park on his saw avenue around 11 o'clock on friday night. he was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. police are asking anyone with information to please get in touch. and san francisco cafe is closing its doors for good stonehill. rather stone mill macho located in the mission district announced they serve their final cup on sunday august 27th. the cafe is located on 5.61. valencia street on social media stone. how much a share. they're grateful for the community's love and support. fire crews continue to make progress on a brush fire in santa clara county. the clayton fire 68 acres and is 97% contained. flames broke out thursday afternoon at clayton road and via de la vista east of san jose. the cause of the fire is under investigation. and for progress has been stopped on a half acre vegetation fire that sparked saturday afternoon in

lake county. cal fire says it started near highway 20 in shady lane in clearlake oaks. fire crews remain in the area to work on putting out hot spots. with mega millions drawing came and went friday night. and once again, no one hit the jackpot. that means the price jumps to an astounding one and a half billion dollars. the jackpot is now the biggest mega millions prize in history and the 3rd highest of any american lottery ever. the next drawing is tuesday night. good luck. meanwhile, one southern california resident get lucky a super lotto plus ticket sold in victorville and it hit the jackpot worth impressive 82 million dollars. the california lottery broke the news on social media last night. no one has come forward to claim the money just yet. >> are you excited about school yeah. >> and some kids and parents san mateo will be well

everybody. and start off with some gloom and doom at half moon bay. it's just the fog checking in this relatively thin today, though. so that's going to mix up pretty quickly. probably see the sun coming out before we reach even high noon today. 77 for antioch, a lot of 60's for the east as you'll notice east bay shorelines hanging on to some upper 50's, though upper 50's also to the north bay here to 60 for san francisco. going tahoe. are we little drop in temperatures from about 80 ish down to the upper 70's. you can see by wednesday, mostly sunny. and we don't see the interference of the flareup of showers or some thunder showers. maybe different story towards end of the week. but at least as we get to the middle of the week, that will be pretty much smooth sailing. now, let's go back to future cast for which shaking bacon here. that trough drops in starts to bring in that onshore. winds break the back of the heat spell we have and that will look nice on front stop something right here in socal. this is what i was mentioning before the bubbling up of some of that monsoon moisture towards our south. looks like that's going to stay all towards the south that you see dris in from the other direction due east. but

this community. health officials are investigating 2 recent deaths from legionnaires disease potentially linked to a richmond spa. >> on saturday, investigators confirm both people who died had visited, send a spud just days before they started showing symptoms. >> one person died thursday night and the other friday morning, a 3rd person who contracted the disease survived samples of the spa. water are being tested right now in a lab. officials are encouraging anyone who may have visited send a spot to watch for symptoms. those can include shortness of breath, muscle aches and fever. along the creek, police arrested a 35 year-old man, brandon dillon quandary. he is accused of 5 felony counts of rape. police say he may be connected to other assaults over the past several years. they're asking for other potential victims to please come forward and tips can be sent anonymously. >> happening right now, eastbound i-80 is closed between highway 4 hercules and cummings. skyway in crockett.

in san francisco's bayview district has died. he was found in an industrial park on casada avenue around 11 o'clock friday night. he was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. police are asking anyone with information to please get in touch police in pleasant hill arrested a suspect accused of shoplifting. this happened at a kohl's on friday night just after 11:00pm. the suspect was booked in all merchandise was returned. police say they are partnering with local loss prevention groups to continue to crack down on shoplifting. and another san francisco cafe is closing its doors for good. still macho located in the mission district announced they serve their final cup on sunday august 27th. the cafe is located on 5.61. valencia street on social media stonehill much a shared. they are grateful for the community's love and support. fire crews continue to make progress on a brush fire in santa clara county. the clayton fire burned 68 acres so far and is 97% contained.

time. one. joining us live now to share more is bay area officer of love bow tie. pay abigail king when abigail, so glad to have you this morning. thank you for having me stuff. and it's great to be here, of course. and you know, i feel like it's every authors dream come true to have their book turned into a movie. how does it feel for you? it's been it's been so much work for the past 4 years that i have actually forgotten like, this is the moment now. and this is the time to that my kids are my in the car like. >> this is set. we're driving to the screening for sepsis coach. we held a couple days ago. yes, yes, and talk about that screening in just a moment here. but you also executive produce this film. so tell us about what that experience was like and how paramount approach to that process was like. yeah, absolutely. so, you know, the whole process started with the books and trying to get the books out there as widely as possible in the community came out for at harpercollins, put out the first book in 2020 and then the second one came out 2022, the 3rd coming in at the end of this year. >> but from there was

so can you speak about just how that moment affected you? >> yeah, i think especially with the these unprecedent strikes in hollywood right now, you know, the actors are not able to promote and the community has just really rallied around to support the miriam kim and a blue convo spearheaded bringing the community together. it was incredible. i think to watch it on the big everyone behind me in reacting and responding in the film really it's just been me in the small screen and with just a couple in the beta testers. and then, of course, you know that the other folks have been involved in creating the program are putting the film. but it was i cannot imagine a more rewarding way to celebrate. >> and tell us as well about the story about love boat i pay or the love boat, but and walk. walk us through for those of us who haven't read the book yet. yes. so as you mentioned, every wong is an 18 year-old girls who lives in ohio. she has not really learned much better and sheet. >> is going to school, but she secretly longs to be the

by beautiful, the they're just they're smart, wonderful human beings. and i feel so grateful that we could spend that time together on set. how does it feel to get to this point where we are starting to see more of that representation in the asian community reflected in. >> you know, books like ones you've written and also just in movie theaters. how does that strike? know, it's changed so even at the time. but it was coming out. there were still you just contracts. and, you know, in the holluwood people ending the shocked to hear the types of things. they were a bit like, you know, the opportunity replace your asian character with a nomination character for marketing those just 2 years before i got my film deal but i thrilled to see just there been so many wonderful films, everything everywhere, joyride, american born chinese, which is actually referenced in love. but was one of their favorite so, you know, since joy luck club and crazy rich asians, i think what we're now in in this and i'm just so honored to be a part of i want to

102, going on for fairfield sonoma, 97 99. meanwhile, in santa rosa, looking good, though, for the marine hower. all right. our forecast is calling for the next several days. this little drop happening into tuesday. some scattered clouds around the bay potentially. and it looks like latest model runs. we might be ok into next weekend, but there is still that potential of a little bit of a heat pump developing, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you so much. >> a new mexican american documentary highlights the work of 7 bay area artists and their ongoing fight to preserve their culture. the film is called the muralist beautiful pain in the works to empower youth of color and honor local indigenous culture. joining me live now to share more is the film's director cuno. and 2 of the artists featured in the movie vanessa espinosa and francisco franco. good morning to you guys. good morning. thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate it. starting off with you, victor, tell us a bit about this documentary. what inspired you to do this?

>> yeah, i grew up in the san jose from the 70's and 80's. so it's always around chicano culture. my closest friends were, you know, from the culture, you know, so a lot of friends or artists and whatnot and then eventually obviously meeting the mural artist definitely much more than that. there cultural proponents and representatives of their communities and activists to me. so what they do is really like my own version of like these local on some so that was kind early genesis of that. so it kind of kind of grew from there and find the kinder first in the three-year journey. but it's and it's ready for. prime time at the presidio this friday. we're all excited about that. very exciting. getting to this point. >> i'm vanessa francisco. how does it feel to be part of this film? >> surreal because, you know, we work very hard and don't get a lot of attention. you know, you know, to actually have it happen. and, you people are looking at us and appreciate what we do. i think

it's fantastic. >> you know, and about for you, it's a true honor. all the artists are heavy hitters in the bay area and it really fuses mural with graffiti and street are in the whole movement together. so it's amazing story and tell us to a bit about your art styles. and the message is that you're trying to convey. >> first well, my my work, as i say, it's very american, even though mexican american. but it's it's american because american perspective, even, you know, from our particular point of view. you know, it's just fun to you know, it's all about my work is like a fusion of american pop culture and my own cultural heritage. i think more about, you know, representing that there is you know, there there are people like me out here, america's out here that like myself. you know, it's fun to. also second. i think a blend of of that particular point of view. it's also about representation. people see us again, not recognize are out here doing things. absolutely. and vanessa, about for for you.

>> as a u.s. hip-hop culture vascular, i just see all the walls around this that are built to separate us and fences and borders. and when you put colors on him and your stories and and your culture, they bring everybody together. so that's what i'm was it like collaborating on this film? >> o for me, it was. so it's a challenge to do anything especially when you're doing something on yourself. but there is definitely this greater good or social good. and there's we have these matching values when they were very different. artist myself. i would say that not in these as but i had feel like i had a duty and the skills something like and it was very interesting as far as dirty, do it and as more because they don't really much hundreds of hours. guys on tape. so yeah, i'd or them and more than they probably even a creepy kind of i mean, it's a job, right? yeah, but, you know, get their story out is just the beginning because what they do this, you know, it's it's taking art. thou like these

breaches that everybody lies. that is not just an individual thing with a dew, very powerful. >> and tell us about the messages that you're really trying to convey through this documentary into your work. >> yes, for me is super quick. i mean, the ultimate audience is probably the ones that are really at home comfortable and really at home like, you know, they are doing their thing but don't realize there's people out there fighting for or against interpretation or and ensure that people are still press and people still have these challenges of everyday life and the kind swept under the rug. but what they represent out there. is stories out there that need to be told and for the get wiped away, they're fighting to keep it alive. so that's kind my motivation. and vanessa francisco, anything that you would like to convey? let let the audience know in terms of what the messages with your artwork. i just i see it as a so what? what i do is sort of a celebration of our culture. >> and just to put it out there with all in living color and so people can will become familiar with it. then. >> and maybe inspired by as

well. so i think that's the main thing is just, you know, against sort of like a gun to succumb like breaking down borders and being seen being shown. and, you know, again, focusing on the beautiful culture and the routes that we have. >> and vanessa, for you. >> basically. >> i'm just basically, people see your artwork. you know, you're mural. what is that? what? you want them to feel what you want them to take away. so you just you never know how your artwork is going to create ripple effects in the future. and a piece that i painted actually save somebodys life ones. they said that they were in a dark place, the solemn ir and that >> made them want to live. so you just never know what seed are planting when you paint a wall. and i think about her every time i paint something like how is this are going to make somebody feel thinkers, shift the culture or inspire them to create more are so i just like to keep inspiring and mentoring. just feel very and how can people learn more

excited for you know, the people that can come see the money from that. you know what you're hearing seeing feel from there. it's like different when you're in person and could see the work and talk to them. so it's pretty fighting coming up for us. all right. fantastic. and last question here for you is why is it so important that >> you met? you have this documentary available for people to watch. now. yeah, i've learned more and more especially from there's a couple folks from assistance you coming and uc francisco coming in that. >> you know, there is this kind of demand or maybe it's a quite an end to have this kind of chill out there for younger generations that you need to see have a starting point. discuss all these topics and it's just like an introduction to many talked about site opens up the discussion, having a nice, easy cool. movie put together pretty well with all these guys really point house showing the vulnerability phone abilities. there's a curriculum that goes with it, too. so it just kind of doing our part to really share this with this nation's about what these guys talk about it because before it gets kind of washed under

gentrified, it's doing our part to show like this is part of story. that's really part of globally with the same story that was with indigenous people sharing with people in different parts of the world that the paint and the struggles are the same, you know, very somewhat suppressing us and everything's going us back. he's going to show it visually and much more visually. they filter the conduit out to the world that these port on the walls and you have to like, see and feel that that's like it. you can kind feel like sore the frequency of it here with them and see it. so. yeah, i can go on and on. but it's yeah, it's. >> one of cool thing about mural painting in pinellas trees like that its public. art is for everybody and it actually touches lives like, you know, like says it's the same sort like yeah, so that it does. it connects to, you know, the regulars at the community. so as opposed lousiana, more stuffy gallery. >> okay. thanks is why that could is running out of time. that's want to thank you so
