this country in more than a century. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it is sunday august the 13th, another warm one for us today. let's get your day started with a first look at the weather with dave sphar made good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and it will be quite warm. but again, for those inland valleys, it looks like by this afternoon as we're still holding on to summer here. however. >> it looks like conditions will be much hotter away from home will be showing you this a little bit. here's what's going on outside. here's the leftover fog along the east bay shoreline. but right above and you can see the blue skies. that's basically the future that we're talking about. our temperatures thus far were in the 60's in the east bay. for the most part. 71 in antioch, 50's cover most of the west to ken. nice. cool. 55. there and half moon bay and quick contrast for you were trailing by a few degrees. not quite half a

dozen behind yesterday's start. now, as far as the excessive heat around us up towards the north, you know, you folks in lake county have an excessive heat warning going on just about all week long way up there to the north. and meanwhile, to the south and the central valley and fresno county, for example, they're looking at a heat advisory for much of the week. now, the satellite pictures kind of interesting, as you can see, a few little showers up there in the mountains south of tahoe. and we'll continue to see that general highway being utilized by some of the leftover moisture. the monsoon, the 4 corner states a that's going to play out early into next week below us with some cloud cover a little bit. 83 at 11 o'clock by 2. we're talking 94 going to be warm even in the bay as we get into next week with cooling expected by next weekend, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> and breaking overnight, a wildfire burned early this morning in the east foothills in san jose. this had been on mount hamilton road. you're looking at video sent to us by a kron. 4 viewer in a social

media post. the san jose fire department said cal fire units were also responding. no word yet on any injuries. kron four's tiffany justice is in san jose gathering the details on this fire for us. so bring us the latest in a live report in our 8 o'clock hour. so stay tuned for that. also, breaking overnight, firefighters stop forward progress on a grass fire in livermore. take a good look at your screen there. happened in the northern hills of the city on collier canyon road. the fire scorched 15 acres, at least the public is asked to avoid the area this morning as crews work on containment efforts. no word yet on a cause. new this morning, san jose police investigating a deadly crash that happened around 5.15 this morning near the intersection of story road and mores court police say was a solo vehicle incident. the driver died at the scene. people are asked to avoid this area. this is san jose's 30th fatal traffic incident of the year. developing news out of hawaii. 93 people are dead following

devastating wildfires in maui. many people still unaccounted for. these now the deadliest wildfires in the u.s. in more than 100 years. the flames destroyed or damaged more than 2200 structures. nearly 90% of the buildings lost a residential more than 4500 people are in need of shelter. hawaii's governor says the cost of damages is approaching 6 billion dollars as the search efforts continue. the death toll is expected to rise. and as we learn more about the devastation on the island, communities in hawaii are coming together to help their neighbors. news nation's david charns reports. >> it's a humanitarian effort. the hawaiian islands have never seen volunteers aiding thousands without homes. some waiting for the unwelcome news. their loved ones will not join them here. >> those trying to get back home stuck in lines of cars as crews attempt to bring water

self-driving vehicles stalled in the middle of a san francisco street friday night. the autonomous car company cruise says this glitch was caused by the volume of people on their wireless devices at the outside lands music festival happening nearby was amanda hari explains. >> there's like traffic near ayers, street and grand avenue at a standstill friday night. crews vehicles stopped for no apparent reason with their hazards left. people unable to go anywhere, just lined up and then lined up with the grown as you know, just a procession of michael was going on. stephen giddings is visiting san francisco from new york city. >> he was near the intersection when the backup started. jeffrey bill bree was inside of his apartment. he heard the commotion here. all these horns blowing. and i look and there's all these driverless cars lined up all the way down. >> a whole here and there's

one on her knee that san francisco board of supervisors president aaron peskin says this problem is becoming all too common. >> and now have over 50 documented instances of autumn autonomous vehicles getting in the way of fire, a ambulance and police activities. so we express those concerns the cpc. but peskin says their concerns didn't seem to influence the california public utilities commission's decision. >> thursday, they voted to expand autonomous vehicle operations to 24 hours a day while allowing companies to collect fares from riders even without a human driver in the car. in a statement, cruz says it's working on this latest issue but pass ken still feels it's too soon to expand to do fundamental flaws in cruz's that are really very dangerous. bottom line is when cell phones are not working, that's how they communicate with the cars to move them when they are immobilizer

we're in hot inland. of course. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. by the way, clear out sfo here. so no delays cooking here. now on that front, the next about 48 hours are kind of interesting in a way because we're on the edges of a little bit of the monsoon kind of toying with us a little bit. throwing us some cloud cover our way. and there is little that chance of maybe a showers sneaking in here as well about the satellite picture. here is what's left over the moisture actually overnight. the so this is kind of impressive, but at least olofsson little showers up there in the hills. looks like more use somebody. we don't know if necessarily a guarantee to hit the ground, but gives you a general idea. temperature check for you right now. a lot of 60's inland. 75 for antioch up to the north bay, upper 50's. 57 meanwhile for san francisco. so today, let's call it 70 san francisco after that morning fog. we just showed you 77 going on for oakland, 80. meanwhile for san jose giving a sign of some warming when you get away from the water, it really start to climb. and so we got clouds and all of that to start off highs around 80 for the bay 90's. well, in

that will be about the mid 90's. for tahoe, by the way, mostly sunny highs will be in the 80's, but about those scattered afternoon evening thundershowers. the biggest punch for terms of coverage looks to be basically tomorrow. now for a this week, we got near 80 for the bay 90's. well inland, we might even top off at 100 or so. but cooling by next weekend. that's when you'll feel it. l0t's watch the moisture with all of this and future cast for from the showers in the mountains. we get the exhaust clouds that will be late this afternoon in the east bay. you'll see kind of those pasty white skies trying to develop and the higher elevations about the album out hamilton. there is that risk you might prefer to pick up a little bit of a sprinkle or shower. this pretty much starts to clear out by dawn tomorrow we're mostly sunny mode at heat, we do the same thing again monday night and also some moisture to bubbling up towards the coast that we might pick along the peninsula. san francisco and up to southern marin highs today will do about 96 for antioch. 95 conquered 95 6 rather for livermore with the

east bay shoreline in the mid 80's. so you can see a big bump on those temperatures to be in the east bay up to the north bay. still keeping a lot of 80's in place here, but certainly get a further north for the numbers. pop monday. that's that traffic i just showed you in terms of that cloud cover coming both in the morning and late at night after daytime heating happens in the mountains will get to about 99. 98 for tuesday. and stephanie for much of the week ahead, going to be plenty warm as temperatures will be up there. you know, well, in the 90's, not 100 plus and so forth, but around us, there are some heat advisories and so forth. so we're getting a little bit of a break because the elements are just in place to give us a bit of an onshore wind, ok? all right. well, thank you for keeping track all. course, i will be in the thanks, dave. >> happening now, caltrain service is suspended at the san francisco and millbrae stations for repairs. this is one of several closures scheduled this month. people are encouraged to take alternate forms of transportation. it will be a bus bridge, but riders should still expect delays. francisco based company lyft is looking

for more drivers to help bring down surge pricing. they say a lyft says it decrease or rather an increase in drivers this year helped increase actual rides taken by customers. a lyft drivers rose the number of lyft drivers rose 20% year-over-year. the company reporting second-quarter revenues up 3% and net loss is down 70%. lawmakers in california are celebrating the upcoming expansion of medical coverage to all low-income adults regardless of immigration status, starting january first, medical coverage opens to people between 26 and 49 years old. whether they have legal status or not. state officials want undocumented immigrants to know that accepting medical coverage will not hurt their immigration status. >> the passing of medical coverage for all californians, all californians, because that's who we are. >> we live here work here. go to school here.

>> uc berkeley study found medical expansion will still leave out about half a million undocumented californians. that's because they make too much money to qualify for medical and don't get health coverage from their employer. and dozens of people swarm a southern california norström grabbing merchandise shattering store shelves >> in clearing out the business in just a matter of moments. this is video from the citizen app. you can see the people in group wearing masks dressed in black, grabbing armfuls of clothing, purses and other merchandise. it happened saturday in canoga park. police say there were up to 50 suspects involved. a security guard was attacked with a spray of some kind. the robbers getting away before police arrived. you might recall a similar robbery happened in walnut creek back in may 2020, the lapd says an estimated 60,000 to $100,000 was stolen here. wall street

journal report says some 9-1-1 call centers are having a hard time finding cellphone callers or even getting pictures or text messages. the report says he's 9-1-1. call center still rely on old technology known as legacy systems that were put in place when pay phones in landline, use for more common. this has led to operators facing a slew of issues such as misrata calls, which could lead to response delays. the national emergency number association estimates 27 million calls on legacy systems are ms. rau did every year. home buyers and sellers hearing. let's make a deal. is it happening much right now. real estate experts say the current home buying and selling conditions may be the most challenging ever data from federal lender. freddie mac says buyers costs are up 20% over a year ago and 30 year fixed mortgage rates around 7.6%. real estate agents say first-time buyers face the most challenges. they also say buyers may want to go

federal building employees are being told to. >> work from home because of crime in the area. at's according to a new report from the san francisco chronicle. various federal agencies worki out of they do work out of the building on 18 or excuse me, the 18 story building on 7th and mission. it also houses the office of nancy pelosi. but the area around the building is also one of the city's most visible open air drug markets. supervisor ahsha suffice as there is no excuse for the state of affairs at that building saying police need to have a consistent presence at the location. so workers can feel safe going to work. on

the peninsula. caltrans is removing some parking spots on el camino. real in san mateo county to improve safety. they say the project will impact areas from daly city all the way down to san mateo. those locations listed on your screen. caltrans says they are adding red curbs and designated no parking zones at crosswalks to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. the salvation army is asking santa clara county to help finance a temporary shelter for displaced residents. the county's board of supervisors are scheduled to vote this tuesday supervisor cindy chavez says the shelter is hoping to increase space for up to 112 beds that can be used. and that's compared to only 70 beds that were previously available. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, a teen gymnast from the south bay preparing to represent in the upcoming olympics.

sunshine peering on in nicely or those east bay hills here. as what it looks like from space a little in the way some leftover showers going on at this late hour up and use somebody just drifting across the state. so that gives you an idea that highway pattern we're going to see probably the next 48 hours or so. that's going to continue to kind of spray us with some cloud cover coming in going through this. and there is that outside chance, particularly tonight tomorrow morning of maybe an isolated shower going on and some of the east bay hills got 60's going on for current temperatures for the east bay. now, 75 antioch. 58 cool degrees for san francisco. and 55 coming in for half moon bay. excessive heat is around us. however, up to the north, you folks in lake county have an excessive heat warning that's going to be for a good chunk of the week ahead. it actually is not today, but that kicks and into next week. meanwhile, heat advisory for the central valley. that's fresno and merced counties. and that's going to be going on. also for the same time period. not as intense, but you can see the heat is kind of around us and we're being

report in our 08:00am hour. so stay tuned for that. also, breaking overnight forward, progress was stopped on a grass fire in livermore. this happened in the northern hills of the city on collier canyon road. alameda county firefighters say this blaze is estimated to be around at least 15 acres. they're asking the public to avoid the area this morning. a two-year investigation leads to the arrest of a santa clara county doctor. a rush party party dar is accused of illegally prescribing opioids to patients. investigators say he used forgery and fraud to obtain highly addictive drugs, including narco. the scheme reportedly was carried out between october 2018 and october 2020, you know, faces a string of charges, including forging prescriptions. the victim of a suspected road rage incident has died. we first told you about the shooting last weekend. officials say the incident started on i-580, and a 61 year-old man t command named ryan wood was found shot in his car near i-2, '05, in

tracy. 2 suspects in their early 20's have been booked is in the san joaquin county jail. according to police. they've been involved in several other road rage incidents in the area over the past few months. charges have been upgraded from attempted murder to murder. oakland police with sideshow activity overnight. let's take a look at video now from the citizen app showing a driver stuck behind a sideshow at the intersection >> of 80th avenue and international boulevard. you can hear the activity from the scene there. the police tell us that they received multiple calls about this sideshow just after 11 o'clock friday night, officers responded to the scene. but by the time they arrived, both participants and spectators of the sideshow had left the area. >> a person was arrested for the death of a sandra fell woman found suffering from at least one gunshot wound oakland. this all happened saturday morning around 10:00am in the 900 block of

22nd avenue in the east peralta neighborhood officers responding to a report that someone was dead there and they did locate that person and medical staff pronounced the victim dead. officers took a suspect into custody. that person has yet to be identified publicly. the department of homeland security has identified at least 300 probable child trafficking cases after partnering with more than a dozen international law enforcement organizations, some of these cases are decades old operation hope has allowed the department to rescue several young victims from ongoing abuse news nation. stephanie haines has more on this international operation spanning over a dozen countries. >> but no one could put a name to the faces of these children in till this team got to work. and so now they made 14 official identifications and have rescued several children from active cases of abuse. >> investigators in the united states and all over the world

are ramping up the fight against online child abuse in a mission called operation renewed help. the team is led by homeland security investigations, cyber crime center, special agents. they work alongside the national and international centers for missing and exploited children along with the marshals service. the fbi, interpol and at least 13 other countries just was really unique because >> from an international perspective, all these agencies came together to work as one, which is kind of unique, although definitely been the trend of how law enforcement needs to work. the team was able to analyze hundreds of videos and images of child abuse. they scoured websites, forums, chatrooms culminating in more than 100 leads to these kids. they then hand over their intel to local police departments. and it really takes. >> hundreds of hours of

manpower of agents reviewing these tapes, looking for slightest detail, the slightest clue last week the fbi finished up its own annual initiative called operation cross country where it rescued more than 200 trafficking victims close to 60 of them were minors. all of this to try to bring justice to those impacted. >> last fiscal year, homeland security investigations was able to rescue or identify close to 1200 victims and arrest close to 4500 people. >> republicans and democrats have introduced a bill that would require colleges and universities that is close accidents and other incidents that result in serious injury or death in their annual safety reports. parents of victims say this is necessary. washington correspondent basil john explains. >> almost 5 years ago, joel housman and his late wife dropped off their son, cory at

the university of colorado for his first year of college and plans to come back. >> probably a month later for. the parents. we so every parent's weekend ever came for just after starting school, corey was severely injured in a skateboard accident and died a few days later, we received a call that no parent ever, ever ever wants to corey's death is not unique as a study by the american college health association. >> shows accidents are the leading cause of student fatalities on college campuses. we need to be mindful that students are that's why connecticut senator richard blumenthal introduced a bipartisan bill to require universities to disclose accidents and other incidents that result in serious injury or death in their annual safety report reporting and tracking. gives college a powerful incentive to do better. some say the reporting changes will burden schools but american association of

colleges and universities. president lynn pascoe rela says it needs to be done. it's an important step toward greater transparency at a time. >> when there's been and declining trust in higher education. pasquerilla says she hopes to see the house and senate make this bill into a reality reporting in washington. i'm basil, john. >> south 18 gymnast is preparing for the 2024 olympics in france. there hasn't been a gymnast from the bay area on the u.s. olympic team since the 90's. when news would like to change that kron. 4 justin campbell explains. >> meet 16 year-old gymnast matthews from gilroy. she 30 hours a week airborne gymnastics in san jose and her hard work is paying off. matthews competed against 7 time. olympic gold medalist simone biles just last week at the u.s. classic and came in 4th place, an honor to be able compete on such a big stage

welcome back to kron. 4 morning news. good morning, everybody. and off to a pretty good start. some of that fog already peeling away around the bay area. >> if you're headed up to tahoe, just taken a note here the afternoon scattered showers and thunder showers, probably the most active in widespread on our monday and then getting into the rest. the week is kind of more. the routine more isolated to very, very widely scattered shower and thunderstorm activity still looking for high temperatures getting up there about 80 the scene coming back to the bay. check it out. not bad at all. some haze looks like it's left over and exhaust clouds left over from the monsoon. you can see still some radar echoes even at this late hour because we're using it the coolest time of the day, right at dawn. so this highway is going to be utilized over at least the next 48 hours. just to take note of. and that's what shows up in the model 60's going east of us. 75 off to antioch up in the north bay. you've got to upper 50's lower 60's. 59 san francisco in a chilly 55 half moon bay. it's going to stay same time. type of

scenario trying clear out there. it's going to slow going today. back to the models here as we watch this here, there's the exhaust clouds happening tonight tomorrow morning. and this is now monday evening. we flare up again with some exhaust clouds across our region. then later on some bubbles up from the south, this is being helped up by this low. this low is bringing up moisture from the south, which is not the best type of moisture, but it's insulating us from what could be because we have a heat advisory to our south and excessive heat warning up to the north. so we're getting some help from this. going to be hot, but not quite heat. spike there's that leftover low. you can see a poll say it's just a little bit. finally by the end of the week, we get some cooling heading into the weekend. let's put the model's in place. we'll see what i'm talking about. so this low, it's meandering off the coast, getting hot up towards our north. then it kind of meanders up to the north a little bit. it still provides that southerly flow. and by doing so it does spray us with some moisture from the lower latitudes. and that tends to be a little more unstable. but

this high is away from home. so again, heat spikes far away from home will stay that way and we'll start to get some earnest cooling from that low heading into your weekend. just got to get place. just right. 70%, francisco. we've got a lot of 60's covering the coast mid-sixties at that 80 going on for burning game. 82 foster city, san carlos para bates heading down here in the south bay. we've got upper 80's, some 90's here. when you venture a little further inland lake, a morgan hill. but 95 94, los gatos east bay shoreline, mid 80's tri valley mid-nineties and get used to it. there's going to be more of that for the week ahead. again, we're right in that. swat somewhat sweet spots going to be much hotter towards our east and cooler off towards the west. 94 walnut creek. meanwhile, 77 for oakland, the laos. 74 92 for fairfield. 85 for napa and 89 santa early in the week, we're going to be again treated to some of that monsoon exhaust a little bit making note of this on monday. and some of that's going to be into the west monday night and tuesday, kind of aung san

temperature. check for you. a lot of 60's in the east bay. already. 75 for antioch up to the north bay around 60 issues were checking. also san francisco, a cooler 55 for half moon bay. 68 for san jose. there is hot weather around this beyond what we're experiencing. see, not quite a heat spike going on because we probably won't see the triple digit numbers. at least not widespread, but they will be in the mid to upper 90's. a bit on the warm side in some of the elements would normally bring us kind of a a bit of a cool down, but not yet is being delayed. but our north, you can see up around lake county that excessive heat warning for the balance of the week. meanwhile, heat advisory for much of the central valley now, as far as the cloud cover is concerned in the moisture, the monsoon machine is still kind of in place, although most of the action, obviously in the mountains and it's kind of the scattered afternoon and overnight showers and thunderstorms. what's leftover gets blown across central valley and into the east bay a bit which you will see late this evening into the overnight. 88 going on it by 12 o'clock by 3. there comes some of those early clouds

this morning, san jose police investigating a deadly crash that happened around 5.15 this morning near the intersection of story road and mores court. police say just one car was involved in this. the driver died at the scene. people are asked avoid this area. this is san jose's 30th fatal traffic collision of the year. developing news out of hawaii. 93 people are dead after devastating wildfires in maui. many people still unaccounted for. these now the deadliest wildfires in the u.s. and more than 100 years. the flames destroyed or damaged more than 2200 structures. nearly 90% of the buildings lost were residential more than 4500 people are in need of shelter. hawaii's governor says the cost of damages is approaching 6 billion dollars as search efforts continue. the death toll is expected to rise. and as we are learning more about the devastation on the island, communities in hawaii are coming together to help their neighbors. news nation's david charns explains.

around. 21 acres. they're asking the public to avoid the area this morning as they work on containment. and a two-year investigation has led to the arrest of a santa clara county doctor. raj partied are is accused of illegally prescribing opioids to patients. investigators say he used forgery and fraud to obtain highly addictive drugs, including narco. it happened between october 2018 and october 2020. the suspect now faces a string of charges including forging prescriptions. the victim of a suspected road rage incident has died. we first told you about this shooting last weekend. officials say it began on i-580, 61 year-old ryan would from antique, though, was found shot in his car near i-2, '05, in tracy officers booked 2 suspects in their early 20's into the san joaquin county jail. police say the pair were involved in several other road rage incidents in the area over the past few months. oakland police responded to dangerous sideshow activity overnight. take a look at video from the citizen app capturing a

sideshow at the intersection of 80th avenue and international boulevard. police tell kron 4 they got multiple calls about this just after 11 o'clock friday night officers responded to the scene. but by the time they arrived, both participants and spectators had left the area. police arrested a suspect for the fatal shooting of a sandra fell woman. this all happening saturday morning around 10:00am in the east peralta neighborhood officers found the victim on scene and took a person into custody. the u.s. department of homeland security is partnering with international law enforcement organizations to combat trafficking news nation. stephanie haines has the details. >> but no one could put a name to the faces of these children in till this team got to work. and so now they made 14 official identifications and have rescued several children from active cases of abuse. >> investigators in the united states and all over the world are ramping up the fight against online child abuse in a mission called operation

singsong pattern. sunny skies chance of afternoon evening thundershowers kind of bit. it's very common in the summer months. here's a shot of what's going on right now. again, taking care of some of that morning fog and leftover moisture from the monsoon because the way the weather pattern set up this highway is in place. so all the exhaust from those afternoon, scattered thunder showers will be spring across the bay giving us a little bit cloud cover. it looks like over the next 48 hours. 60's for most the east bay. 76 up to antioch. we've got a mixture of 50's and 60's up north. 62 francisco about a 68 this hour for san jose. so give me an idea what we're talking about is watching this. you can see there it is this afternoon this evening as we get into monday evening. however, same kind of deal in progress, although some bubbling up from the south. so you may get a little shower as late as wednesday morning. and that's going to be more long. the coast here, however. and then with that low kind of in its right place, we look for a cool down coming into next weekend. another is that one last little wave here to make

you so much. and what a great month to be here. yes. national sandwich month. absolutely. how fun. and you know, we all love our peanut butter and jelly sandwich and our ham and cheese and we should their classics for a reason. they're delicious. yeah. but today, i mean of a to sandwich just a little bit with really fun and delicious and seasonal recipes. you can make it lovely and these ingredients know. incredible. by the way. thank you. thank you. well, i was at my downtown livermore's farmers market and i got some vegetable. so today i am making the first sandwich on ciabatta. i'm making a grilled veggie and pesto sandwich. so i already i know delicious. so i already toasted about and put some delicious pesto on there. now to add some really great flavor. i have some arugula which gives such a nice peppery bite to it. and i put the past both sides and i grilled some vegetables. i already had to turn down cause

they're cooking superfast. we love grilled vegetables and they're healthy for you. so right, and you can use any vegetables you want. stephanie, i just have some beautiful grilled zucchini that i saw and them. i'm adding some yellow squash and these can all cook about the same time. so just keep an eye on him. only a few minutes per side to add some color. i have some roasted bell i mean, tullis just right. it looks healthy. what you're doing right now. it doubles in the past. so it's yeah, absolutely. and you know something just a little olive oil. >> salt and pepper. and that's all you need to season these vegetables. i had some portabella mushrooms. but if you're in a plant plan is fantastic on this, ok, let's just a plant. and that is beautiful. look at that. with all the fest, fresh vegetables. and so that is our first sandwich are grilled, vegetable and arugula. >> it's not beautiful. the next one are you familiar with? the nice was salad? yes.

i love a nice was specially the tuna. so i decided to make this into a sandwich, ok? i don't want to oversell it, stephanie, but it is my favorite sandwich. makes is your favorite said, oh, it is. really is. what makes a great niece wa sandwich. you know something fresh ingredients and really putting on it what you like. i like the tuna. but if you have leftover salmon from the night before, go ahead and add the salmon, the cooks, am so you can do it either way? yes, absolutely. and what i did was i took this delicious tuna and i already put the i guess, addressing you want to say in 2 which is olive oil, garlic and some red vinik red wine vinegar. that's it. so i've already spread that on the first part of the sandwich. and that's the hallmark of a good nice watts. now for all the great flavors, i'm adding some delicious green peppers scott, sorry,

green olives red with the red pimento and i'm also just great flavor. and then i'm also adding some column on lives. and this is also from the farmers market. yes. so now you all of you place. yes, and know something if you don't like olives, capers, yes on that because it's pretty typical. yes, yes, you can do either or all of the above. and then, of course, we have to have our egg now. i that be a little bit rainy and the sun are not overcooked. but if you like yours, cook a little bit more. absolutely. make it the way you want. i mean, this is your sandwich. so, yes, so these are all very typical of a and walk us through the the flavors of what what can people expect when they bite into your favorites and my favorites out. you get the salty, you get the bahraini, but you can't that really good flavor from either the tuna or from the salmon and that really makes it a very hearty

flavor. and of course, you when you do the sandwich is having a little bit of onion on but i don't want it too strong. so i like to use the red onion for this. it's just so delicious. and then, of course, like i said at the farmers market, i was able to get some amazing tomatoes. they're in season. so that's typical. and a nice was as and then, of course, a solid always has some type of lettuce, some green. so this one i'm just using some butter leaf. you can use bed you can use which ever let us you like. it's up to you. but i mean, this is just a hearty sandwich. look at this and what i like to is a wrap it in foil. and i'll weigh it down a little bit. so everything comes together. i put this on a released 30 sour dough bread because we have great sour dough here. so that's a great sandwich. both of whom are fantastic. then i just kept

chain and aaron thank you so much, ladies for joining us this morning. thank you for having i just want to say full disclaimer that i was a judge at this event. and so proud of the both of you. this was not an easy thing to achieve. can you walk us through your thoughts that night? like what was going through your mind? the moment you heard your name was called for the title. >> for me, i was so nervous house waiting for that moment. i think for all of us been definitely working very, very hard, especially with our leadership director francis call. we've been working for the past 2 months. you know, working on. i'm talking speaking qna and i think it's all all the work has paid off. and it was just a very exciting moment for me. aaron, how about you know, this is my first pageant. i didn't know what to expect. oh, yes. and so when my name was called, it felt surreal. you know, i didn't really even expect a place i just wanted to. >> you know, have an the other woman and just do something outside of my comfort zone. but i got way more than i ever expected. some very, very pleased and tell us a bit

about the process of competing because this is not just, you know, showing up on stage and putting on some pretty outfits, right? it's a lot more to it. that to that. yeah, there's a lot of work behind the scenes, you know, getting all the clothing, all the dresses on the heels. that's a lot of work. takes a lot of time to get. and then on top of that, we've been having weekly you know, for q and a sessions and, you know, working on interview skills and as well as working on walking and modeling. so all of that he's got like goes on behind the scenes, got to be a full package, really. and what was really impressive to me when i was sitting there in the audience was watching. >> all of you talk about your social platforms and that such a key part of the whole experience, just championing a cause that you're passionate about. could you guys walk us through of the cars that you're championing this year? so my social platform is about promoting the arts in my community. >> i'm a dancer. i've been dancing since i was 5 years old and i really love to be able to promote my passion, especially with underserved use. i'm a volunteer dance

teacher for at the boys and girls club as well as friends of children special needs. and what i do there is i teach them dance, help them get their comfort zones. learn something new because i that that can help them build confidence and confidence is the key to being able to. figure out what you're passionate about and what you want to pursue and what your purpose in life is. so that's something i'm really passionate about. on top of that. i'm also i'm in a pastor of a non-profit organization called catwalk for charitable causes and what we do as he promotes, we produce charity fashion show set of san francisco bay area. so we've supported organization such as san francisco, palm recreation and rehabilitation center. chinese hospital, san francisco as well as sell for the elderly, which will help to raise over $600,000 for so i'm really grateful to have opportunity to use path from miss asian coble to be able to continue promoting arts or flare. how about you? yes, so i am a medical student and what i'm passionate about is improving health care, education. >> for our asian american elderly, you be very, very surprised how much misinformation there is also

lack of information in general about how to take care of your health, even basic things like hpv. our elders don't really know about it, how to contract it with treatment. there is so i wanted to do a better job of educating our elders on just basic health principles. all right. and so. >> what are you looking forward to the most this year? because you have the crown the official title for the any anything that you're most looking forward to. one thing that always been looking forward to is a chinese new year parade. i think those are always such an exciting time, especially for our culture to celebrate it. i think it's such a great and exciting moment and >> i've always dreamed of being on the slopes so i it's great. >> i'm most looking forward to just. going after every opportunity that this pageant has opened up for me. i think that there is a huge network with miss aging global and i'm just excited to meet more people and see what other opportunities i have in store. all right. and if the both of

you represent the next generation of asian american leaders really am. what is your hope for the future? i really hope that asian americans can really learn to embrace their identity. there's a lot of shame growing up because there is internalized racism. and i just wish that we can start to love ourselves as a community as individuals as a whole group of people. for me. i just really hope that there could be more asian representation, especially in the media. i think currently. >> we have lots of we have lots more representation. i think that's so important because when we see ourselves in the media and we show that to use of the next generation. they can feel inspired and they feel that they're capable of pursuing whatever they're passionate about. and that's what i really champion. >> do you have any advice for young of people who identify as women who are out there watching us right now, the sinking about participating in a pageant. but they might be a little bit shire. they're not scared that they're not sure if it's for them. any for

100%. i it took me 2 years to even get the courage to go after this project. >> and it was an entire learning experience more than anything. so i don't think you can ever walk away from the station global without with nothing. so i would just say, go for it. it's really opportunity to learn. all right. and how about for you? i would say the same. i totally agree. just go for i think you never know without trying and you should just go for it. and through the decision global experience, i've learned so much and to just be able to gain all these leadership skills interview skills, communication skills. these are all life skills that will take that will follow me with my careers and future. and i i think those are all really important. >> alright, kylie chang and aaron kiwanis, asian, global and ms asian america. congratulations to the both of you. and thank you so much for joining us today. thank you all right. we'll be right back.
