7:03 am
when tropical systems hit land like this, they tend to lose a lot of their punch and it's also migrating into a less favorable environment. there you have all the moisture making it into southern california. so the rain in southern california right now related to hillary, of course. but it's not anywhere near the actual storm. it's still well to the south, but it will be moving very quickly. 81 coming in for 11 o'clock by 2 were talking at 91. this means kind of a mixed bag of some sun and clouds orking in here. but interesting formation will happen as we get to tonight and into tomorrow as we watch kind of the peripherals of hillary impact portions of the bay area will have more on your forecast coming up in a bit. stephanie. >> thank you. and as hillary barrels toward southern california, the national weather service says some regions could see life-threatening flash floods. all state beaches are closed in san diego and orange counties. multiple cities ban out of free sandbags yesterday. grocery store shelves emptied at several

>> all right. welcome back to the prom more weekend morning news taking a live look now walnut creek where it looks like the fog is pretty active this morning at this hour. that's a check in with day. for more on what we need to know. good morning, dave. hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. even though we do have this tropical system towards our south, we're probably still going to see a good deal. he'll the heating happening well inland. >> what's the deal on hillary? yes, it's still a hurricane. as we talk right now. new updates, i think come out in about an hour. we'll see if it's still hurricane strength. forecast says as it makes its way north through baja, california, to socal, it loses that punch and it becomes a tropical storm in the la basin
7:14 am
about 11:00am this morning. it's talking about max winds at 70, but the big thing to take away from this is as a tropical storm, even all this moisture being thrown up to the north to the south. it just is like a bug that gets squashed. it just starts to throw all over the place and we'll get some shrapnel up here. it looks like in the bay area in terms of some overnight early morning monday morning, thunder showers thrown in the mix. a look how quickly this thing moves marches right looks like sequoia national park. it's passing as a tropical depression. so the national hurricane center may stop following this and it will be the local weather forecast offices that do. but all of this moisture is still here and locally. once it landfalls like this, it starts to become locally severe weather. so the atmosphere is to absorb all this kind of the good news for this is it's being pushed quickly out of our reach here. so won't be an agitator for a long period of time. as you can see, it's an easter, oregon already by 11:00am projections by monday, however, will fill some of these back effects back here
7:15 am
in the bay area with some scattered showers and thunder showers. and even the moisture lingering a little bit potentially the tuesday morning. let's watch this. go forward. marine layer clears here some afternoon cloud cover. how much you'd get in the east bay is going to determine your highs, the deeper moisture off towards the east but will put in here an isolated little showers, a possibility as well as tonight, deeper moisture to the east right up here. this is what i'm talking about. that's your monday morning concentration the north a little bit off towards the east bay as well. but that scattered shower and thundershower activity there. it's going to feel kind of like the monsoon kind of that tropical feel a little bit is what will have with that rain. so it's not going to be like a winter storm, but for the folks in southern california, this is probably what it is. it's it's a a really bad winter storm with heavy winds. it close to hurricane strength. you could call it because that's what it will be. except that will be more tropical in nature. obviously. now we go out to tuesday. there's still some leftover moisture as late as tuesday. here's the crossover to 12:00am. and as we get a
7:16 am
little later, there's a little brush by we might get a few leftover showers into tuesday morning. but after that things clear out, this is what the radar seeing up towards our north a little bit in the way of some rain. but a lot of that's probably evaporating before it strikes the ground. this is our beauty shot here of the east bay shoreline. 2 different types of moisture. it's our marine layer. this is cold dan stamp air. that's what the ground. that's our typical marine layer and up to the north. that's more the tropical air. that's in the higher levels of the atmosphere for today. let's call it 73, san francisco, verbal clouds and mild 79 for oakland. 85 san jose. again, you can't rule out of local little shower going on here. breaking this down for a little bit. clouds return, isolate a little shower again. can't rule that out. more humid 90's. well, inland tonight, monday we got cloudy, isolated shower overnight tomorrow morning. however, morning scattered thunder showers with the concentration, the east and the north bay. then for the next week ahead, sunny and hot inland as we see the mid 90's return again. well, we've got
7:17 am
the 90's far to the east and we have some 90's even poking up and the north bay, too. but a lot of that's going to be contingent on how much sunshine you get because it looks like this next cloud cover will fill in the clearing skies relatively quickly. we'll have more on that 4 zone forecast. we'll get more to hillary as we progress the broadcast stephanie. all right, dave, thanks for tracking all that for and now to the latest on the tragedy in maui. >> the governor of hawaii says it will take years and billions of dollars to rebuild the death toll now stands at 114. that number is expected to rise as the search for victims continues. >> well, residents came together on friday singing their love for luh-high-nuh. they're asking the governor to prioritize them in the rebuilding process. some locals fear wealthy tourists will become the focus of recovery efforts.
7:18 am
