much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it is saturday september, the 9th and let's start by getting a look at the weather conditions outside with mister dave sphar. good morning, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and it looks like we'll continue on with the forecast we have from yesterday. but the new wrinkle will be. we'll see some scattered clouds for you, folks in the south bay as we get to this afternoon. now, first things first our sutro shot will show you that we have some fog kind of lingering around just a little bit. there's you'll notice. >> and this will mix out for essentially sunny skies for san francisco east bay shoreline for the most part, but down to the south, there is a line of some showers work in. these are very aloft. they're not actually reaching the ground in most cases rate the amount of rain that's been collected from this very, very token with this. but this is this elevated thunder shower business. i was mentioning from yesterday and this is coming up from the tropical system deep in the pacific. mostly 50's on the board for right now. 61 for antioch. 56, san francisco. 46 going on for

and 61 for san jose. the contrast for you were actually little head in most cases across must much of the midday little cooler up north and pretty much right on target san francisco going on there, as you can see in concord. 76 going on by 11 by 2 at 86. but again, to underscore few folks in the south, but you'll probably see some scattered clouds working today again from some of that moisture bubbling up from the south where for looking for a little bit of a warm-up. but wow, it looks a little bit of fall coming our way in the middle of next week. we'll have more on your forecast a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> a man is icritical condition this morning after being shot by police in san pablo. officers say a woman called 9-1-1 asking for help with a mental health evaluation for her husband identified as andre smith. this happened in the area of dover avenue and pullman street. police say smith locked himself in a room and was not acting violent. but about an hour later, the woman called police again saying her husband was now harassing her.

police say they found smith in a yard and that's when he started throwing pieces of brick at the officers and charged at one of them with a metal pole. officers opened fire shooting the man in the leg. the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. happening today, oakland leaders hold a community meeting to address public safety after a week of violence in the city. they plan to address several shootings that happened earlier this week, including one at skyline high another involving woman shot in the head by a stray bullet while walking around lake merritt. there was also a slew of smash-and-grab robberies, da pamela price. and mayor sheng thao are expected to attend today's meeting at the oakland church. genesis worship center. a rally is scheduled to happen outside the church before town before the town hall. former city council member loren taylor is expected to also speak. belmont. police arrested a man accused of setting a series of fires early friday morning. the first place parked at an abandoned gas station between hill street in el camino reale

the second a grass fire happened on christian drive north of boston avenue. firefighters found the 3rd fire in the center median of highway 92 the 4th 5th and 6th plays happen near i-280. it's a big weekend for pride and oakland. the parade and festival happens tomorrow. kron four's dan thorn connected with organizers of this year's event. >> diversity and excitement are taking center stage this weekend for oakland pride. the event's short but fun parade on sunday is expected to be we really have it for. i know somebody going to be leaving but we have over almost close to 100 content our largest parade ever. >> for revelers, the route will begin in downtown oakland on broadway and 14th. >> and wrap up on broadway between 20th and 21st following the parade will be the festival featuring 3 stages with performances by deborah and diana ray is george smith. the 3rd is vice president of the oakland pride

board. he says this weekend's events are not just about celebrating, but standing up for the rights of lgbtq+, people. >> you know, everything going around, you know, all the negativity states and things around the country. hey, we want to bring it home to open it and prove that we're safe space, a viable community. organizers say everyone is welcome and it's a great opportunity to support the rights of all people who live in oakland. why open plays beautiful town. we want to show off right now and a showoff, our businesses and i it not profits. everything's going to be that's going to be a great celebration reporting in oakland, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> and francisco school district is hoping to borrow up to 1 billion dollars next year through a proposed bond measure. they say the money would pay for needed improvements, including updated dining spaces, new technology and security upgrades the district plans to present a proposal to the

board of education on tuesday. this would be the biggest bond measure in at least 21 years. and governor newsom signed a bill aimed to clear the way for the construction of a controversial student housing project in berkeley. more than 300 million dollar project would house roughly 1100 cal students in people's park. opponents want the school to preserve the park and build housing somewhere else. the area was founded in 1969. as part of the free speech and civil rights movement. but more recently has become a gathering area for unhoused people. construction at the park is still on hold pending the resolution of a california supreme court case. well, good rates are still hovering near 20 year highs, but economists say we may be heading towards a more balanced market kron four's philippe djegal explains. >> homeowners are opting to keep their homes off the market while mortgage rates near the highs recorded at the turn of the century, senior zillow, economist or fade if and geese as buyer demand is also falling across the

country, leading home prices to rise with lowering inventory. we have existing homeowners. >> basically got an opportunity to either get in the housing market with more interest really know or were able to refine very, very low rate they're simply not wanting to sell their homes, still, defund views says new research shows 70% of homeowners end up buying again. the fact that builders are still building. >> supply is increasing and we ought to see a more balanced. >> housing going forward, you know, with demand and supply coming into better balance, maybe a healthier housing so to speak at the start of 2024. nationwide, a redfin report shows the total number of homes on the market has dipped 18% year over year. the biggest decline since february 2022. >> and the phone, says the slide has been more dramatic

in the bay area. inventory is down. 35% when compared to last year. it's so that's a that's that's a market where, you know, you have demand even more. this supply has. and so prices in the bay area are down roughly 5% year over year. but outside of the tech industry defund, he says the job market is strong and incomes adjusted for inflation are increasing, adding purchasing power. and here in the bay area. by next july. >> he forecasts prices rising 2 and a half percent with more people in a position to buy philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> happening today, it is the 19th annual are in the classic car show. it gets underway in just a few hours. prof was tiffany justice is live for us in orinda what people are setting up now. tiffany. >> yes, they are. this is one of the bigger events for the community and they're opening to the public to come out and enjoy some classic cars today,

as you can see right behind us, they have blocked off this roadway. the cars are going line this roadway and they're setting up at this point. this is going to start at 10 o'clock this morning and go from 10 to 2 o'clock. so we do know that we are at your wind, the classic car center and like i just mentioned, are in do way. part of orinda way has been blocked off because these classic cars are going to be parked alongside this roadway for people to check out the specs of these classic cars. this is the 19th year. this event has been going on. it's a partnership between orinda motors and the classic car centered out here. they will have on display 200 classic cars. there will be music, of course, of food to enjoy. and they're also be some special exhibits as well. these are going to be some nice classic cars for those who submitted their classic car. this is a chance for them to show off some of their work. >> there's also going to be an assortment of cars here in the past. there's been some shelby

and of course, can see the clouds down below benefit up above. let's check in now with dave sphar. hello, mister days. okay. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and yes, you see the different types of moisture going on there. this the low-level fog stuff that we have. it's all upstairs a little bit the way some scattered clouds. >> that's kind of a little tropical in some ways tricky to our friends to the south. here's the tropical creature way down there. and we're just getting some of the shrapnel being thrown up here. some dry thunder showers and central valley a little bit. some of that's going venture into the south bay this afternoon. so says futurecast for we'll show you that a bit 50's across much of the middle of the bay. 51 up to santa rosa. got 61 going on for antioch and also for san jose. future cast for this is what we're talking about here is we've got to keep some a variable clouds going on here for the central valley sorry for the for the south bay today. there you have the flair up, though, in the mountains as we expected to be some showers and thunder showers will work. they'll be very scattered, however, and there's no guarantee strike the ground because of the

higher elevation. it will be a little easier to do by sunday morning. we have the marine layer coming back again in a kind of get squashed a little bit. we get out to monday a bit because we're actually going to start warming up early into the week. now, here's what i was mentioning here earlier. a couple little swatch is well out to sea here as we get some of this moisture coming in, the marine layer again, kind of getting squished a bit. it's actually being compressed, though, because this high coming from the east is going to give us a little warming trend as we go into early next week, variable clouds for the south bay for today. got sunny weekend on tap warmer on sunday. by the way, and a few scattered clouds off to the distance. but this is the marine layer here warming to the lower 90's. that will be by monday. that's going to be really are flavor of summer, 80 or so for the bay. but the rest of the week, big drop happening on tuesday, which will see the extended forecast 80's for well inland for much of the rest of the week. we'll go ahead and call that mild for today. we're about 69 san francisco, mostly sunny and nice. 75 going on for oakland. got those scattered clouds. few folks in the south bay

this afternoon and warm conditions prevail the upper 80's, the far east bay up to the north bay. we're also looking at 80's as well for today. we're probably get that into the 90's tomorrow. now, 69 san francisco and 82. meanwhile for san jose next couple days for you. not a big change, but there is a minor little pop happening here by monday as we get to 92. but in the extended forecast, that's where it drops off into cooler temperatures. we'll have more on that extended forecast and have your 4 zone in just a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you for that. >> now to developing news overseas, the death toll rising overnight following a massive 6 point 8 magnitude earthquake in morocco. more than 1000 people are dead. rocco is a country in north africa, just south of portugal and spain. it's home of the famous red walls that surround the old city and mayor a cash, a unesco world heritage site videos on social media show buildings reduced to rubble and dust. the u.s. geological survey says that was followed

by a magnitude 4.9 aftershock following that initial quake rather, the death toll is expected to rise as recovery efforts continue. costa county is inviting the community to visit their 9.11 memorial display. it's right in front of fire station 11 in clayton. as you can see, the memorial honors first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on september. 11th visitors will be able to learn more about some of the first responders in new york who lost their lives. a ceremony is scheduled monday at 11:00am. this display is open to the community through september 12. 4 is your local election headquarters, former house speaker and francisco congresswoman nancy pelosi says she will run for congress again in 2024, the 83 year-old sharing a statement friday. she believes she is still needed to advance san francisco's values for political analyst donna crane and meeting she was surprised by this. >> students who are ages 18 to

the home on crescent drive has been broken into at least 3 times in the last 2 years. the incident happened thursday near university avenue. the burglars broke the glass on a back door to get into the property. they ran off when they heard someone inside the home. other mayor mail carrier robbery in the bay area. this one happening last wednesday in san francisco sunset district usps officials shared this surveillance video with us. you can see the suspect wearing a red cast. the robbery happened near the intersection of 40th avenue and santiago street officials say the mail carrier was not hurt. a $50,000 reward is available for any information leading to the arrest of the robber. still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, san leandro police confiscate a gun that looks like a toy gun that looks like a toy details coming up.

closer to completion. good morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. thank you for joining us. we'll get all those stories in just a moment. but first, let's get you started with a look at your forecast with dave spahr a hey, good morning, 70. good morning, everybody. and that's a pretty decent day. today is little slight. warm up in those temperatures going on for today tomorrow and so forth. and then we'll see a nice cool down for the balance of the week. hello fall again. it looks even pretty in some of the maps, too. >> so the first things first we have a bit of fog are having to deal with right now at our sutro camera shot and that will mix out. >> as we get into the later morning hours. but actually, as we start to warm up a little bit will get a little compressed a bit as we see this high retrograde back towards the west. now the feature we're looking at today, we talk a little bit about this before, but some moisture bubbling up from this tropical system towards our south. there's also a front in the northwest that's not going directly impact us. however, as we look at the next several days because we're not going cool down till tuesday or so. so warming up. and we have the somewhat tropical moisture in

our backyard. so the elevated showers going on around monterey bay, but will again see those scattered clouds. it looks like from monterey sorry for the south bay, too. upper 50's in the east bay shoreline for now. 65 antioch 50's. meanwhile, up to the north bay. 46 for and ahead. expect about 76 for 11 at 2 about 86, but will probably is grey's in the maybe the lower 90's by tomorrow for the san francisco giants today versus the rocky 605, game time. and by that time, temperatures falling lower 60's, scattered clouds and all and the winds won't be as intense as we see them earlier in the day. so by say about 6 o'clock and an onward, looks like the winds will start to subside, but helping to bring some of those fog clouds. and that's a given. 89 expected tomorrow inland. we'll see about a 92 for your monday. but after that, we take a very sharp turn downward as we start to cool off for the balance of the week. we'll have that longer range forecast for you and not only a tropical system here, but a big monster in the

atlantic. we'll talk more about that, too, stephanie. all right, dave, thanks for keeping an eye on all that for us. we appreciate it. >> earlier this week, the body of a missing netflix engineer was found near the base of the golden gate bridge, a physical barrier to stop people from jumping off. the structure has been under construction for the past several years. kron four's gayle ong has more. >> we reached out to the golden gate bridge district spokesperson says the net is 80% complete and the project is on track to finish around the end of the year. >> we have netting installed on the east and west sides of the bridge between the 2 towers at the north dakota vida. hello call solage short with the golden gate bridge district crews are now working to install netting on the south end of the bridge. progress after delays in construction over the years. and in recent weeks, contractors replace fencing after someone got hurt. some sections of >> fencing on the golden gate bridge on the west side that are maintained by the contractor building the suicide barrier. there's an incident in early august where

a piece of fencing came loose and struck bicyclists. we're in touch with that person and are working to address the matter with him directly. the suicide deterrent system also known as the safety net was built in 2017. >> made of grey steal 20 feet below the sidewalk, extending 20 feet out from the bridge to prevent people from harming themselves. while the suicide prevention barrier is not yet complete. the golden gate bridge has seen a significant drop in the number of suicides. the first part of this year through july. >> there have been 6 suicide to the golden bridge for context over the last 20 years. we've averaged about 30 suicides per year at the golden gate bridge last year we saw 22 over entire course of the year. so 2 sides appear to be down. it will take some time after the net is complete to fully assess the impact. >> and if you or someone, you know, needs help to remember. and 9, 8, 8, is the number for the suicide and crisis lifeline which offers around the clock call text and chat

access to trained counselors. meantime, we posted more to resources on our website. kron 4 dot com reporting from san francisco. gayle kron. 4 news. >> police recovered a body from the water friday afternoon near southern part of treasure island. that's the part of the island near the marina closest to the bay bridge. police say they found the body just before 1 o'clock. they're asking for anyone with more information to please get in touch. an unsettling discovery in santa rosa. police say they found an unregistered ar 15 style rifle and the home of a 14 year-old that teen is a student at montgomery high school. police say they found the weapon tuesday at the property on aston avenue east of 101. the n s found in a backpack of a sibling. officers say they were investigating a shooting threat made against a 13 year-old at herbert slater middle school. the case is routed to a gang fight that broke out at the middle school last friday where teens from

montgomery high came onto campus. extra patrols remain on both campuses as the investigation continues. and take a look at this. this is a real gun which is disguised as a toy was confiscated by san leandro police officers say they are faced with questioning if this is a real gun or fake on more and more these days, a kron four's, as you do, eiplains. >> especially if it's a situation that's unfolding rapidly. i have to make a decision, you know, in my face with a toy gun or is it a that's looking like a toy you're looking at a photo of several firearms confiscated by police after responding to a call about a person threatening someone with a rifle. it happened wednesday just before 05:00pm at a residence on to our road in san leandro. >> although one of these rifles looks like a toy. san leandro police lieutenant tank, says this brightly colored semiautomatic ak. 47

is very real. what we believe to be sks that was one that was painted and very bright colors. those fully functioning. and it also had a 100 round drum magazine. the weapons were recovered after san leandro. police obtained a search warrant to enter the home. before that he says the people inside were ordered to exit safely. one by one, including the suspect, 30 year-old jacob perez. >> perez was arrested for multiple gun-related charges including being a felon in possession of a lieutenant tang talks about the concern for officers knowing that there are real guns in the community painted to resemble airsoft gel blaster toys like this one that you can find any show up at a target walmart. >> you know, we don't expose ourselves. we talk take the risk assume that it's a toy gun because we have to consider is that there is possibility. it is what >> in fact, the quick online search shows that gun

manufacturers offer bright colored real guns for consumers. lieutenant tank says that this isn't the first time that police officers come across one of these weapons. it's not something that's widespread, at least not yet. and hopefully it doesn't become that way. >> haaziq madyun kron. 4 news. >> police in fremont shut down an entire neighborhood in the search for 2 suspects. >> it happened friday afternoon in an area near 8.80, and mowery. those 2 suspects were found hiding in a backyard shed. police took them into custody. >> a lot of >> a lot of police cars and sheriffs, carson weren't sure for quite a while. what was going on and then bigger out. well, they said that to them. that there were some burglary suspects. it that. on the loose. they search our yard and maybe a couple of others and found him 3 doors down. i heard trying to get this customers air conditioner running the police came by

with their canine and said we think someone's in the backyard. >> yeah, the dog went back there locked in on the shed and they told us to stay still stay inside. close all the windows and doors. >> he was holding the door i gave him my crowbar and they they. >> open the and he came out like well, like a rat is me. it must have been in there an hour or so as hot. that said, i'm sure was like an oven yeah, he got out they slam. they slam them through the fence the rest of them. >> police have not yet shared more details on who the suspects are or why they were arrested. police have arrested a man they say hit a person with his truck and drove off this happened thursday evening at the intersection of hillsdale boulevard and curtis street in san mateo, the victim was taken to the hospital. police later found the driver and arrested him.

the good news for bart riders this weekend bar has canceled this weekend's planned track closures between the union city and fremont stations. officials say the next schedule shutdown has been moved to september 23rd and 24th. the planned track work involves removing hazardous trees ahead of this year's winter storms. and heads up now, if you're planning to drive to the south bay this weekend, southbound 101, will be closed saturday night into sunday morning for a stretch of highway running through mountain view. the closure starts at 09:00pm at the moffitt boulevard. overcrossing lanes are expected to be back open by 9 tomorrow morning. and another major story we're following. california attorney general rob bonta has announced a 49 million dollar settlement with kaiser for unlawfully disposing hazardous waste, medical waste and protected patient information at its facilities. according to the ag under cover and that inspections from 16 different dumpsters at kaiser facilities found electronic waste,

oakland leaders will hold a community meeting to address public safety after a week of violence in the city. they pled to address several shootings that happened earlier this week, including one at skyline high. another involved, a woman shot in the head by a stray bullet while walking around lake merritt. it was also a slew of smash-and-grab robberies, district attorney pamela price and mayor sheng thao are expected to attend today's meeting at oakland church, genesis worship center. a rally is scheduled to happen outside the church before the town hall. former city council member loren taylor is also expected to speak. and now to developing news overseas. the death toll rising overnight after a massive 6.8 magnitude earthquake in morocco. more than 1000 people are dead. morocco is a country in north africa, just south of portugal and spain. it's home of the famous red walls that surround the old city him or a cash unesco world heritage site. videos on social media show buildings reduced to rubble

to be that's going to be a great celebration reporting in oakland, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> san francisco school district is hoping to borrow up to 1 billion dollars next year through a proposed bond measure. they say the money would pay for needed improvements, including updated dining spaces, new technology and security upgrades the district plans to present a proposal to the board of education on tuesday. this would be the biggest bond measure in at least 21 years. governor newsom signed a bill and to clear the way for the construction of a controversial student housing project in berkeley, the more than 300 million dollar project would house roughly 1100 cal students in people's park. opponents want the school to preserve the park and built housing somewhere else. the park was founded in 1969. is part of the free speech and civil rights movement. but more recently has become a gathering area for unhoused people. construction at the park is still on hold pending the resolution of the california supreme court case. mortgage

the bridge between the 2 towers at the north dakota vida. hello call. so sort with the golden gate bridge district adds crews are now working to install netting on the south end of the bridge. progress after delays in construction over the years. and in recent weeks, contractors replace fencing after someone got hurt. some sections >> fencing on the golden gate bridge on the west side that are maintained by the contractor building the suicide barrier. there's an incident in early august where a piece of fencing came loose and struck bicyclist. we're in touch with that. that person and are working to address the matter with them directly. the suicide deterrent system also known as the safety net was built in 2017. >> made of grey steal 20 feet below the sidewalk, extending 20 feet out from the bridge to prevent people from harming themselves. while the suicide prevention barrier is not yet complete. the golden gate bridge has seen a significant drop in the number of suicides. the first part of this year through july. >> there have been 6 suicide to the golden bridge for

the teen is a student at montgomery high school. police say they found the weapon tuesday at the property on aston avenue east of 101. the gun was found in a backpack. officers were investigating a shooting threat made against a 13 year-old that herbert slater middle school. the cases tied to a gang fight that broke out at that middle school last friday where teens from montgomery high came onto campus. extra patrols will remain on both campuses as the investigation continues. investigators say that this is a real gun disguised as a toy. leandro police confiscated the weapon and kron four's haaziq madyun has more details. >> especially if it's a situation that's unfolding rapidly. i have to make a decision, you know, in my face with a toy gun or is it a that's looking like a toy you're looking at a photo of several firearms confiscated by police after responding to a call about a person threatening someone with a rifle. it happened wednesday

accused of a hit and run. it happened thursday evening at the intersection of hillsdale boulevard and curtis street in san mateo, the victim was taken to the hospital. police later found the driver and arrested him. and good news for bart riders this weekend bar has canceled this weekend's planned track closures between the union city and fremont stations. officials say the next scheduled shutdown has been moved to september 23rd and 24th. the planned track work involves removing hazardous trees ahead of this year's storms. and heads up. if you are driving to the south bay this weekend, southbound 101, will be shut down saturday night into sunday morning for a stretch of highway running through mountain view. the closure starts at 09:00pm at the moffitt boulevard. overcrossing lanes are expected to be back open by 9 tomorrow morning. another big story we're following california attorney general rob bonta has announced a 49 million dollar settlement with kaiser for unlawfully disposing hazardous waste, medical waste and protected patient information at its

day for more on our weather conditions out doors a day. that is a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. we actually been monitoring a little bit away, some action down around monterey bay, but on balance, we're looking pretty good here in the bay area. >> look at those blue skies rocking and rolling with a little bit hazy fog. you can see right there close the surface before that mixes out what's causing all of this. we're talking about there's a tropical system that's not a threat to any land, but some of that aloft moisture is getting thrown up here in the form of around this. you see here monterey bay and has been responsible for some lightning. it's mostly been dry lightning because there hasn't been much coming down from the sky with that we're scenario. but that will also facilitate some scattered thunder showers in the mountains today. tomorrow. but that will be probably south of tahoe in very widely scattered at that. also, since we have the shot here, what we're going to expect of the high pressure to kind of read for gate retrograde west and it will cause a scorching over marine layer for sunday into monday means you might have some drizzle morning along the coast. san francisco, as you start your day and warm

afternoon. still, we've got 60's in the far east bay for right now. 60's up north, some 50's hanging on also santa rosa 60's. also line up the east bay shoreline. 65 meanwhile for san jose. there it is, as i mentioned earlier, so some of this is going to be up to the north, maybe in the south bay. you might have some of those pasty white skies in the afternoon. hopefully that's all you get. no dry lightning with this. meanwhile, a couple scattered thunder showers up in the mountains. some of this driven by the fact that daytime heating may become more animated, if you will. we may see some of that return again, as i said tomorrow, up in the mountains, this is marine layer. that's very lazy, damp, cold air mass. there's you don't get much motion with this that what i was talking about, tropical stuff that's aloft. that can be a problem with daytime heating again. you see the flare up in the mountains. well south, however, of tahoe and again, widely scattered this weekend, we got those variable clouds working for the south bay. but beyond that, it's basically mostly sunny, my pop, lower 90's tomorrow and into monday.

a cool down is expected for the remainder of the week. it lines up like this today. 69 san francisco. 75 for oakland. 82 san jose. not too bad a day. i'll have more on the 4 zone forecast right now. let's turn up the kinetic energy. stephanie. >> lots of energy out here. dave, thank you. a bay area woman becomes the first female to be crowned winner of a global lion dance competition in malaysia. it happened during the group championship portion of the competition. and joining us live now to talk more about it is jade of a lion dance to be. >> thank you so much for joining us today. thank you so much for having me. yes, and congratulations to you. how does it feel to land this historic title for yourself and your team was so crazy that i never imagined that this is going to happen, especially since it was our whole team's first real competition ever. and so totally thought we'd be at the bottom of the pack. we thought there was no chance that we're going to win any kind of title. but turns out we came in and left with western line king. so that was crazy. well, and i have to just point out this, this is the trophy,

right? i hope that a little bit earlier. it's pretty it really surprised when they handed it to me for the first time. all the cloud. it's significant and i love the the lion of a lot. this is that what you call the lion head just a lion head on the top of the show for you. it's beautiful and so tell us a bit about what kind of training is involved to get ready for the competition of this. scale of this magnitude. so normally we would train for 3 to 4 months before the competition. but actually, we don't have the right equipment and services co and we also don't have a space to practice. we usually practice on the streets in chinatown. so this time we flew our competition team out to malaysia one month early and then we met up with a team, a local teen in malaysia, and borrow their practice space and their equipment. and then we just trained for that one month every day in malaysia. and then we went to do the competition. that's incredible. so this all happened during the summer months and the timing worked out well for you, too, because you're actually a student at uc san diego. so, it worked out really well that this was my last free summer break. so we're like, ok, let's go to

malaysia. just so incredible. and a walk us through the moment when you are actually competing, though, is does it happen on a stage and then you're in front of how it works? so there's actually a wide open. just imagine like a basketball arena, except the basketball court is us. and then your whole audiences on teachers and stands looking down at you're surrounded by 9 judges on all sides because they're all watching to see every detail and then see where they need to take off planes. yes, so you're surrounded by 9 judges and they have a huge table. judges also watching on the side. oh, my gosh. pressure walking out onto the stage at first pretty nerve wracking because, you know, there's so many people watching and what was going through your mind as you're doing, going through the routine. i think during the routine ended up just focusing on the moves and i kind of blocked out everything i couldn't hear. the audience can hear people a chance for me. all i was thinking about was we did during practice. i think a lot of that goes down to how much we emphasize mental preparation with our team like we spent the whole monthly giving, you know, see

forgives us like will speeches to prepare ahead of time. casinos are so young, too. then we spent like the whole week before leading up to the competition day, kind of talking to other, making sure he would be prepared on the so that we wouldn't panic at the last second. and i think that worked out really well because i was able to focus and what were some of the messages that your instructor shared with you to help you guys calm your nerves in the heat of that competition. >> a lot of it was. so again, we didn't go in trying to win anything. so we really focused on what we can learn out of the experience. so he told us after the first 2 weeks of training, he was already satisfied with what we had learned. and if it cut the trip after the first 2 weeks and he's already happy with what we would have gained from the so. the only thing that we to the add to the experience of the endless just our experience going through a competition and see how it is. if we mess up, then that's just another learning. lessons take home. and it's not really anything to be worried about. so having that message undermines really helped us come down on the day of. >> and what in your

perspective, what what is it? what are the qualities of a great lie and answer? >> i think the only thing, of course, you need to. a little bit less ludeke, you know, need to be willing to go through the training. but if you're always willing to learn and if you're open to learning new things from other people, because even if you think that a team is technically not as it passes you, there's always something you can learn from everyone. so as long as you keep that kind of open mind said you'll be able to advance really far. >> very cool. and if people are watching this, they're inspired by your story. they want to get involved with line dancing. they want to learn how can they do that? >> you can always check us out on our social media line. that's me. and then if they're in san francisco, we're recruiting new members all throughout the year. we just started a new recruiting cycles at 5 high schools and some cisco. >> okay. very cool. all right. they can check out your social media and they can. it starting as young as high school basically. yeah, we actually take in new students all the way from elementary to high schoolers.

progress after delays in construction over the years. and in recent weeks, contractors replace fencing after someone got hurt. some sections >> fencing on the golden gate bridge on the west side that are maintained by the contractor building the suicide barrier. there's an incident in early august where a piece of fencing came loose and struck bicyclist. we're in touch with that. that person and are working to address the matter with them directly. the suicide deterrent system also known as the safety net was built in 2017. >> made of grey steal 20 feet below the sidewalk, extending 20 feet out from the bridge to prevent people from harming themselves. while the suicide prevention barrier is not yet complete. the golden gate bridge has seen a significant drop in the number of suicides. the first part of this year through july. >> there have been 6 suicide to the golden bridge for context over the last 20 years, we've averaged about 30 suicides per year at the golden gate bridge last year we saw 22 over entire course of the year. so 2 sides appear
